60 Second Book Pitch

We decided to try something new, both because we thought it would be fun and also because we have a terrible habit of starting to talk about favorite books and just not stopping. So: a way to force ourselves to keep it short and sweet!

Welcome to our new series: 60 Second Book Pitch! The rules are simple: our partners pick out a book and surprise us with it, and we have 60 seconds to quick pitch the book. The book has to be one we've read (and liked!). If we run overtime, we get hit with a nerf dart. If we do it in time, we get a piece of candy!

First up was me getting to pitch the contemporary sapphic romance: The Fiancée Farce. This is one of my favorite books with the fake dating / fake engagement troupe. Ok, there is a physical separation (see photo) she is in a place where she takes the time to recharge and become strong again. She is trying to find peace. Harry is heartbroken but he is ready to turn the page and go find his happiness. This is the first time that the cards are so clear.

With the tarot, she is waiting for something, she feels alone. There is a decision that was made with several people. She is moving forward and trying to find a solution for her, status, money.

She will come back with a slightly better state of mind.

We are back with this week's book haul! This is everything we got between 9/24/24 - 9/30/24.

Tuna (our littol cat friend) is shocked! Shocked!!! at what a good deal we were able to get on the full series of Solo Leveling. It was too good a deal to pass up (even this close to NYCC when we are trying to save money😅)! We also snagged @rainbowcrate's edition of Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender, which is another book with polyamory rep to add to our collection!

It was the best sort of surprise when my very first Rosemei danmei novel: You're Too OP! by Yi Xiu Luo arrived from Yiggybean (Rosemei's US distributor) this week. I am really working to expand our danmei collection beyond what Seven Seas is translating.

Also!!! TWO whole Kickstarters that I backed came in this week: Many Hands, a polyamory erotica anthology, by @duckprintspress and the Game Master's Guide for the Tales of the Valiant TTRPG by Kobold Press.

We are really in the depths of con crunch in this last few weeks before NYCC, but we are still trying to make time to read so wish us luck!

we want to awaken the past or show that the past is behind them and that they are winning, things have evolved for them. We're celebrating something here. Meghan comes here in a very strong way. Harry and Meghan want to create a form of legacy of their work.

if fitzmartin was just a little less BL-coming-of-agey and a little more there’s-a-villain-murdering-poor-people, with rossmo focusing more on the horrors of some crackhead preying on the impoverished versus making everyone a looney tune, i’d say the book would be halfway decent but it’s not. i understand hating bendis, i really do, but it’s on editorial for letting fitzmartin run buckwild without a care for prior development post-rebirth. a lotta shit just dont fit in the grander scheme of the writing, but that’s because tim is NOT a BL character. if you’re gonna tie his coming out to his leaving the batfam cult, then stay true to the depersonalization he’s felt being under bruce’s control. call out the fact that he still harbors resentment for being pulled back into the bullshit. remember that being around his friends during yj 2019 actually made him happy. changing his romantic fixation from stephanie to bernard doesn’t change his core character traits. he’s an asshole and a cunning one at that, but alas, when you’re dealing with CW writers, you get what you pay for.
