Leaving aside the functionist universe, I wonder what Megatron's life would have been like if he had been forged in Caminus (despite having its flaws, it is my favorite colony 🙂)

Caminus treasures culture and art of any kind. Music, dancing, painting, anything really. So of course Megatron's poetry would not only be valued but encouraged by his surroundings. Bots close to him would probably urge him to publish his works, to create a name for himself as a poet.

In the beginning, this is just what Megatron would do. Young and inspired by the artists around him, he writes poetry that reflects the beauty of the universe. But as he grows older, as he experiences more of life and starts to see the cracks in the beautiful facade of Caminus, he grows more cynical.

When Megatron initially expresses his worries for his home world to others they tell him to turn to faith and at first this is what he does. He tries to follow the Way of Flame, seeking guidance and understanding rather than comfort. But Megatron quickly grows tired of this way of life, uncomfortable with the way Primes are fanatically worshipped and that religion (especially the Mistress of Flame) has such huge say in the running of Caminus.

Finally, tired of everything he's seen and how most camiens are willing to turn a blind eye to the problems, Megatron writes and publishes a book where he discusses this. It's a huge hit, with camiens that have felt exactly the same way but never felt the chance to express themselves coming out and vocalizing their support.

The Mistress of Flame hears about this book and actually invites Megatron to talk with her. They meet and while Megatron expresses his worries for their world the Mistress simply tells him to believe in the Primes. She then urges him to return to his poetry, stating that he should write about the beauty of Caminus again.

Megatron is greatly angered by this. While yes, he loves to be a poet, his poetry always were a way to express his view of the world, what he thought and felt. Feeling that the Mistress basically wants to turn his work into propaganda is incredibly insulting and proves to him that she does not really care about the arts, just that is aligns with her worldview. He's also angered by the way she dismisses his worries. Simply telling him to trust that faith will guide him means nothing to Megatron as he does not actually believe in the divinity of the Primes. In the end this talk only solidifies what Megatron already thought.

After this talk, Megatron publishes another book, this one even more critical than the first one. He addresses the Mistress of Flame directly as more of a cult leader rather than a religious figure and urges his readers to look beyond the veil of faith and actually face the problems of Caminus. He grows hugely popular with a large portion of camiens and together they form an activist group.

No matter what universe nor home world, Megatron is a voice of change.

you have no idea how much of a problem i am going to be for you >:]

right one of the characters i find to be infinitely fascinating in terms of how the fandom looks at them is rung. like for me, rung is a socially awkward aroace autistic. his reason for being in psychology/psychiatry beyond just wanting to understand himself (which is also a reason i think he's autistic bc one of the main symptoms is an inability to understand one's own emotions) is because he wants to make connections with other cybertronians without the social pressures of dating or interfacing.

i think the whole "primus has game" jokes are genuinely really funny because y'know he's literally god, but i do think that in a good ending of the lost light, where rung managed to survive and explore himself through the aspect of godhood, i think he'd find, with his memories restored, that loving other cybertronians on a romantic level is odd to him

he's got these vibes from those around him that this new knowledge, the knowledge that he is literally the being that so many of them prayed to in times of anguish, makes it difficult for them to interact with him in the same way as before. i do still think he'd have genuine connections with nautica, skids (because fuck canon he's living), and megatron.

those three in particular work so well on a platonic level with rung. megatron is someone who i think would find a lot of solace in discussing philosophy and ethics with literal god, also though the lens of the fact that i bet megatron has loads of religious trauma since the functionalists justified their actions through their worship of primus

nautica, being from caminus would also work really well with a newly godhooded rung. like caminus is a heavily religious society as well, arguably more religious than modern day cybertron and i think she and rung would discuss the science and perhaps some of the earlier days of rung's existence together.

and skids. well i can't really see skids seeing rung any differently. i think the two of them are in a queerplatonic relationship. they enjoy each other's company very much.

the idea of rung living to understand his godhood is something that's been bouncing around in my brain for a while because of one of my oc's.

to put it bluntly, this oc, malware, was a former guard of the senate, picked by alpha trion to serve and protect the prime's and their legacy. she's pretty old (roughly 7 million) and when nova prime left for the stars xey suffered a rather intense psychotic break that eventually devolved into her becoming entrapped in a very long series of delusions where primus himself was watching xeir every move.

she ended up betraying the senate and joining the decepticons, where xeir delusions eventually spiraled from primus watching her, to the literally embodiment of the decepticon cause controlling xem. she was friends with damus prior to the war (due to xeir studies of chemistry which he found interesting) and when the DJD got formed she ended up joining as the first helex.

TLDR; malware ends up defecting and starts having regular therapy sessions with rung, alongside a nice dose of antipsychotics. and when the war ends xey join the lost light.

and this leads me to the idea and concept of mecha who have been having therapy sessions with rung having to struggle with potential religious trauma from knowing that the guy who've been talking your religion problems over with is actual god himself. fucked up and evil

i don't think rung himself would really view himself as good interestingly enough. he's shown throughout the series to be a very shy and socially awkward individual, to the point that he can hardly believe the stories that rewind and chromedome tell him about his alternate universe self.

rung is such an interesting character to explore through the lens of having to know that he likely never got to fully understand himself and his backstory before dying and being essentially forgotten by everyone in his life.

it makes me sad to think about because i think rung, of all characters, should've gotten to see a new cybertron. imagine a version of the bad ending where rung, fully understanding his position as a god tries to steer his people towards a brighter future, one where he can help those who truly need it through therapy and proper medication

hopefully this doesn't sound like nonesense. i just love thinking about complex platonic relationships and as much as i'm a shipper, i wish i got to see more platonic rung with the other members of the lost light

Rung... I don't think about Rung often enough. But to be honest, I don't necessarily ship Rung with anyone, and i am definitely very fond of imagining him in deep platonic relations with others. We know he's a bit unethical, hehe, making close friends with your patients probably isn't advised, so I really like that edge about him. I always saw him as a bit of a bleeding heart of sorts. He'll go beyond standard procedure to help out his patients...

I mean, religion in transformers has always been kind of iffy, but it's okay we can fix that. The fact that Rung's godhood has not been discussed more is kind of a crime. I would have loved to see people interact with him knowing he's Primus. Maybe some, who have really been hurt by religion, struggle to separate Rung from the religion that caused them trauma - i mean, Rung had nothing to do with that, but it's difficult to think about Primus, who, if we assume they view him the same way we view god, should be almighty and all-seeing and know that he'd done nothing.

I honestly could never really gleam Rung's relationship with Cyberton properly, but it would be so interesting if he took a leading role in making it better. I feel like everyone who went with the Lost Light kind of... "ran away" though, y'know, in search of something brighter than the ruined, dead Cybertron they've left behind. Finding out he's Primus, Rung might feel a sense of duty and responsibility to come back and help out...

My point was that the later stuff came from a less restrained writers room while the writers in the 80s were held at gunpoint by business men saying "you need to sell this, this, this, and this, make up lore in 15 minutes for a whole cartoon"

You’re literally missing what bothers me about this era entirely. It’s not that the lore is different, it’s not the lore specifically, I genuinely don’t care about that, animated has different lore, beast wars lore also has a biblical nature, a character literally dies for humanity like Jesus himself. That all works there because it comes from a sense of love of life. What I don’t like is the sense of tone to this lore of the biblical nature. It's steeped in 'how else do you write lore but base it on christian themes'. It comes from a very patriarchal world view. That we are in a biblical war because these two warring factions must be at war, their chosen gods were at war. It's frustrating, to see that everything else needs to use that as the lore now. Think about how Superman is a Jesus allegory in the DCEU. Why is that? Because often these men only have one source of lore they think about.

I'm bringing up the bayverse movies because they brought a sense of cynicism, hyper masculinity, and edgy bullshit to the franchise, and specifically all franchises as a whole. The first movie came out in 2007, before the mcu's iron man. The resulting pro military, pro alpha male power fantasy, pro “throw a guy in there from the comic, the nerds will pay to see him no matter how accurate he is” cameos shit that every blockbuster movie has become starts right here. Those movies are bad for a myriad of reasons, but worse for what they do to media as a whole, we're only just recovering from it recently. That first movie (written by the prime creators) opens with this line:

"Before time began, there was the Cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them… with life. That is how our race was born. For a time, we lived in harmony. But like all great power, some wanted it for good, others for evil."

This is why I am saying the entire problem starts here. It is lazy and narrow world building to base this infinite war on a creationist religion, of strict good and evil. It's extremely post 9/11, extremely mid 2000s. The vibes are bad. I would rather the media have started to say something else, to imply that evil doesn't come from factions. It did in animated, where the lore implies that the autobots are war criminals, and perhaps the decepticons as a whole arent actually the in lore bad guys. There's a sense that if we continued the story, we'd start finding the real cause of the problem (without needing to pull out unicron for once) What went wrong other than trying to make things in line with movie lore/tone/vibes? Most fucking franchises suffer the same problem, so obviously Transformers does too.

I'm not ever saying the 80s cartoon is perfect. The show has dud episodes. The show has racial caricatures, a lack of women, a lack of cohesion. I literally watched it. In one episode Megatron creates new transformers on earth. In another, you need Vector Sigma to create all life. It's very obvious they're introducing characters to sell them, why else would they throw 40 at you in episode one?

But characters in the 80s cartoons laughed together, had a sense of emotional intimacy that disappeared in the mid 2000s (I noticed this watching TMNT as well) I'm saying it’s softer. The characters are gentler, and laugh and hug, share their feelings and hopes. Optimus Prime chuckles often. He no longer does that. Even though it's still Peter Cullen (because nostalgia) he isn't the same Prime. Now he's 'the 13th Prime' or whatever the hell. Now he's on a mission from god.

To share a scene in particular that shocked me for its genuine soft character interaction between friends, something that would never have existed in the late 2000s for obvious 'no-homo' reasons:

I'm watching this media chronologically. I'm reliving 40 years of how we portray characters and relationships and the hardship of war. I grew up in the mid 2000s. I know what happened. I'm seeing it reflected back at me here, and I'm telling you right now I don't like it. I'm exhausted by it. I'm frustrated that this narrow world view is all I get to see now. I wish the lore would have done something more interesting than this. I'm struggling to word that often, but don't come in my ask box saying I don't actually know what I'm talking about just because YOU don't know what I'm talking about. TF SEVERED THE WAR BEFORE

The war was not one of class struggle or ideas but a fude of how to save our race

On the left there was optimus prime from the great family of primes and on the right there was megatron hero cybertron and scorge of the quintesson's.

Both megatron and optimus were great friends, brothers even. Both Optimus prime and megatron helped rebuild cybertron after quintesson war. Megatron would use his skills with the people to gather what the people needed and optimus would his status to get the cybertronian senate to put megatrons plans in place and for 12 million years cybertron was in a new golden age, a Dimond age if you will.

But good things don't last forever.

A plague known as cosmic rust was born and killed 80% of all life on cybertron not even plants or mechanimals were sparred

The virus would attack the CNA of a creature and rip it apart killing it cell by cell

Until there's nothing

After 20 thousand years the virus died but during this time megatron lied about how many died to the virus and offered false information and hid in a bunker. He also used religion to calm down the public.

While optimus prime would give the Truth about the virus and hold mass ceremonies for the dead. Optimus would give medical assistance and help any infected cybertronian. But one fateful day optimus's son roller was killed by cosmic rust because he followed megatrons information

After pandemic optimus pleaded for megatrons arrest but the damage was already done megatron had more influence on the people then the government. While in prison megatron published his manifesto stating "I megatronus paxus state that it is the right of all cybertronians to subjugate any and all life deemed as lesser for I was a veteran in the quintesson war and I've seen what those other life has for us. We must I enslave it before I dose the same to us. there for I decree peace through Tyranny" after the publication of his manifesto megatrons most loyal patients Broke him out of jail and formed the Decepticons

Optimus prime was dumbfounded by the forming of the Decepticons he went to the senate for a way to deal with these extremist but senate sided with megatron and already made plans to colonize other worlds and cyberform them. Optimus lashed out at the senate and left saying "free is the right of all sentient benings"

Optimus prime and his wife elita one together published a book detailing all the faults of the Decepticons and if any one has a problem with the Decepticons join the autobot movement and go against megatron

Attack on Prime: Religious beliefs

I’ve been sitting on these thoughts for a while. It’s been in the back of my mind for a while.

Based on some information presented to us in Transformers Prime: Cybertronian tend to believe that Primus and Unicron are real. Not really out of religious necessity, but based on fact. I mean the Autobots were crawling around in Unicron in the season 1 finale. That should make anyone a believer at that point. But religion itself was never mentioned in TFP, and neither we’re the religious beliefs of the Autobts, since you know, Primus and Unicron were fact. So what would this have to do with Optimus and Megatron in Attack on Prime?

Personal headcanon: I feel as though Optimus would be mixed on the concept of religion. Sure, religion can be a way of guiding people to being morally better people and helping others, and maybe there was salvation to it. Hell, according to the Covenant of Primus, the god actually did have early Cybertronians making religions about him. But he’s seen how corrupt people can bring out the worst in a religious setting: take advantage of the poor and using their power to justify their sin. 

So when Optimus is introduced to the Wallists fanaticism, he’s not exactly pleased but he simply lets it go because he’s in a tough situation and he wants to help humanity. He does retort to Pastor Nick in order to get him to shut up and focus on a more dangerous matter.

"A God is a being more power than a human or even myself," Optimus explained, "A God is a living being who suppose to be compassionate, kind, and loving his creation. What have your walls, your 'gods', done for you besides keep a barrier between you and those creatures, you call titans? Also, when I first arrived here, I saw a breach in your wall caused by the so-called Colossal and Armored Titan. And I'm going to make a guess that this has probably happened before. Your walls are not invincible, neither are they gods. It is simply a fortress created by your kind. So tell me, Pastor Nick, do you really think your walls are gods?"

Optimus has been alive long enough; he knows how to handle that type of situation. It’s only when Pastor Nick sees the aftermath caused by the titans attacking Wall Rose and still saying ‘no’ to helping, that causes Optimus to lose his shit, because you want to save people’s souls but you do nothing to actively do that! No! Fuck that! Optimus is mad!

"Answer me this Pastor Nick," Optimus continued while interrupting Hanji, "Am I really the monster: the one who has been risking my life to protect a race I barely know? Or it is you: the one who preaches blasphemy and watches his 'expendable' soldiers die like it is some slagging puppet show!"

If religious people are actively abusing and mistreating their members instead of guiding them on a proper path and using that time and energy to help people, he’s going to have a problem.

Meanwhile, Megatron thinks religions it bullshit, and would also say fuck god and fuck the devil, which he has done on multiple occasions in TFP canon. I think he would say that due to his own upbringing. I’m certain that when he was young he would’ve wondered why a god who is supposed to be considered passionate would leave his own creation to die in such a cruel and sadistic way. But Megatron crawled out on his own. He survived on his own without god. Primus never helped or bothered to save him, so he decided to save himself. And I don’t think he would regret that.

"You heard me," Megatron hissed, "To the blasted pits with god! 'Decide what's best?!', 'whether humanity lives or dies?!' If god is supposed to save his people and create a world of peace, then why would he abandon them?! Why would he subject them to unethical conditions?! Force them into slave labor?! Allow them to be devoured by monsters while others watch with sick grins as if they never had value?! Why would god brainwash their subjects into believing that this is how life is supposed to be?! Why would god sacrifice their own flesh and blood for their selfish needs?! Why would god say that freedom is less important than security?!

"You control only a small portion of the world! It's minuscule, insignificant! This world itself is vast, and there are worlds beyond this one! Stars, galaxies, infinite beauty! And you decided to limit humanity because you're selfish and refuse to help humanity expand the possibilities! The gods on this world and Cybertron should mean nothing! I say to the pits with god because god only cares for himself, and not for his people! I climbed from the mines! I gave myself a name and made sure it was remembered! I defied god because I knew no one else will!"

This excerpt from Attack on Prime Chapter 27 is literally Megatron speaking from experience and adding his own personal opinion.

Would Optimus and Megatron share their own religious beliefs and opinions with the natives of Paradis? I don’t think they would unless asked (at least Optimus). Megatron would just say along the lines of ‘fuck religion and fuck god’ and move on. But Optimus isn’t sure if he would worship a god. He’s certain he doesn’t worship Primus. Does carrying the Matrix of Leadership count as worship?

Long story short: Optimus is agnostic at best and Megatron is the literal epitome of “I’m ready to fight god, and/or become him.” Megatron would throw hands with Primus if he ever saw him.

So is this like a Riot or a like a Civil War🤔 kinda thing that's happening

I mean riots definitely happened a lot during the Clampdown!

It was followed by a massive War after when the Decepticons became an independent entity from their alliance with the Autobots, and the main issue is that while on Cybertron, all the city states seemed to fall under a planetary government ie. a single Council or Senate with one generally overarching policy (excluding colonies), Earth comprises of 195 countries with their own styles of government and very different national policies influenced by history/culture/religion, which makes Megatron’s attempt at ‘streamlining’ them to fit how he believes the world should be run in TTB much more egregious. (TLDR this man had good intentions and genuinely sparked a great revolution millions of people benefited from. However, he comes from England and specifically has experience working in England’s environment/rule which colors his perspective of the world. He struggles with diplomacy and the notion that the good he did for England will not necessarily benefit every country in the world—some which don’t have the same issues—the same way, and him using an iron fist to try and enforce this only made matters worse/more people adversed to his agenda, hence him becoming more and more of a polarizing and feared figure. Think of it as somewhat the issue in MCU Avengers: Civil War where they straight up launch international operations in a country that never asked for it, was never informed of it, never had a say in it and people needlessly ended up as collateral damage. But worse, because Megs is no Captain America)

Of course, between him and Zeta Prime, it’s clear who’s the bigger problem in the long run, but it’s not to say that he doesn’t have massive issues, even if initially (and still to some extent) good-intentioned.

The Autobots don’t actually want any part of this power play which mainly concerns him and Zeta (Both are the ones interested in consolidating power for their own purposes—-one for what he believes is for the greater good and the other for personal benefit), but their interference whenever Megs or Zeta tries to bulldoze a country’s government/people into compliance with their plans means that they’re A Problem for both and thus unwillingly the third party in this war who try to resolve international issues diplomatically, help evacuate citizens/refugees out of warzones and help to uphold country freedoms and agency from the other two by beating Megs/Zeta back if necessary.

The Autobots have a no-contact policy with Zeta and will absolutely fight him on sight, but they do sometimes reach out to Megatron’s forces to convince them to leave X country/state alone. Sometimes it works! Sometimes, when Megatron is outright there for resources, it doesn’t, then they gotta throw hands.

What’s going on with my blog?

To answer this question, is that I’ve got stuff planned for it, but there’s a lot of mini problems on my part. But here’s the man ones:

1. I plan way to many things, and those things are often good ideas, but I never do them or write them down.

2. I want to start working- but I quickly grow bored and move onto different topics very quickly.

3. I have a few illnesses (Mentally) that prevent me from focusing on one thing at a time- I’m currently going through all of my drafts right now and working on them all at the same time.

4. Lots of testing and planning for summer.

My future plans:

Harpy Au: The au is simple, it’s a tfa based universe, where the decepticons, and autobots are put into a ‘redemption’ facility after their war, the all spark is more of a giant crystal, that’s in the middle of their forest and gives them their magic. (I won’t go into detail on that or their culture on this post) They work with several humans (all of which have different temperaments, ages, views, religion and heights) and if they do well on all of these (Like Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime- Megatron and Swindle also passed) they will be released into the world and allowed to live their own lives, however they want too. That’s all I’ll share here- but your all free to ask about it.

Dragonformers au- I know, I know, this is a very common one, but hear me out. The transformers aren’t the dragons, their the dragon riders. Dinobots are rebels, Decepticons are mercenaries, Neutrals are bounty hunters, and Autobots are peace keepers. They are all at war with each other, and very few of you may be asking- what about the insecticons and predacons? They don’t give a shit. They won’t join either side. They’ll kick all their asses. Primus is the leader of the autobots, the only one to ever see him depends on the universe, Bayverse, cybercerse, Beeverse and primeverse Optimus is the only one to meet Primus (except for Bayverse sentinel but he was killed for treason by Optimus- and Megatron got angry and helped kill him) in Animated verse however, Ultra Magnus has met him. Now each of these verses are their own kingdom, now you might think- what about the other universes? The answer: I don’t know any of them. I’ve seen a little of G1 but not enough to know anything. Bayverse are the front line fighters, surrounding the kingdom in a strong, but quickly fading line filled with bots built for war, Primeverse is in the ring behind them, followed by Beeverse, then Cyberverce, and then the ‘not working Brains’ of the group. The Decepticons move in seemingly impossible to tell with verse their from when they strike, as they all work together very well (usually..) however they are always beaten. As far as the autobots know, they have the same defense as them.

Dragon Au: another one- this one is something I’ve been planning with @bigoltrashpile (btw I do apologize to you about the long break in our conversing-) their characters are dragons at war with humanity, no one knows where they came from, but they just know that the moment they see bone, they’re already dead. The theory is that a necromancer- who is an outcast of our main tribe- broke the seal keeping the dragons trapped and now commands them. But who knows.

The Church of Primus has its roots in Zeemon Magnus’s ascent to power some two billion years ago. In those ancient times, the physical vessel that contained the AllSpark was housed in a great acropolis in the center of Tyger Pax and defended at all times by the Knights of Cybertron, a ritual honor guard of elite, highly-trained warrior-monks. Philosophers of the time spent many ages puzzling over the essence of the AllSpark and its ability to create new Cybertronian life from nothing; after millennia of spirited debate, they concluded that it contained “Primus”—an old Cybertronian word that translates to the “prime essence” of Transformer vitality. 

Gradually, the AllSpark’s protectors incorporated this spiritualism into their daily rituals. To become a Knight of Cybertron, one had to relinquish all material possessions and sequester themselves from secular life. Only by transforming one’s personal life could one transcend to the next plane of being and bring themselves closer to Primus. Unfortunately, this monasticism made them increasingly detached from the very real affairs playing out on Cybertron; when the Protectons staged their coup and appointed their leader Nova as the next holder of the title, the Knights of Cybertron were taken by surprise and nearly exterminated when their Acropolis was destroyed. 

I say “nearly” because their order did survive in some form, thanks to the efforts of a few brave initiates who had not yet completed their training: Axe, Outrigger, Wing, and Gauge escaped the purge with whatever holy writings they could carry and went underground. They evaded Nova Magnus’s brutal crackdowns and attempts to revise history and continued teaching the way of Primus to whoever would listen. This burgeoning Church of Primus survived the Third Cybertronian War and the death of Nova Magnus, and Devron’s Destrons relaxed most of the discriminatory legislation that had been a hallmark of Nova Magnus’s reign and allowed freedom of worship. The Church, although it would never again command the same respect it once had, rebuilt itself from the ashes, and by the Expansion, some 750 million years ago, it had found renown as a pacifist order dedicated to the worship of Primus and the preservation of knowledge—a mission overseen by my alternate self, Vector-Prima-Vectorum. 

This is not to say that the new church did not have problems of its own—it never found the same kind of support in Autobot society that the Cyber-Ninja Corps enjoyed, and the church spent a good deal of time simply trying to keep itself together. Vectorum was forced to excommunicate Logos Primon for entropy-worship, a decision that weighed on his spark greatly. In the years before the Fourth Cybertronian War, my alternate was powerless to contain the order’s first major schism between the Reformists and Reversionists—this latter group was led by Heretech, a group of radicals who sought to return to the martial ways of the past, and he and all of his followers wound up excommunicated after one particularly fiery debate. Many of them, including Heretech, went on to join the Decepticons, confident that Megatron would afford them the same kind of religious freedoms that the Destrons had offered. 

In the years after the Great War, the Church’s role in society has further dwindled, crowded out between an increasingly secular society and a number of competing religions. The Church has found greater success out in the wider commonwealth, however, and some colonies like Caminus are well-known for their belief in the way of Primus.

I'm watching Beast Wars again for no reason and so you all have to hear me talk about it.

If I was personally given Rights I would first use them to erase Cheetors weird crush on Blackarachnia because it literally adds nothing to the plot or the characters. Instead I'd take full advantage of my personal headcanon and make Cheetor desperately want a big sister because I am always a slut for Found Family. Like, that scene with Una ?"Aw, she wants to be you!" Like c'mon viewing him reaching out to Blackarachnia because he desperately wants some semblance of a relationship is a lot more wholesome when it isn't romantically coded. Cheetor is Lonely, so horribly lonely, and so young seeming in comparison to the rest of the cast. He hasn't lost that love for the stars or spiraled into cynicism just yet, and I would much rather explore the ways he tries to reach out to his bitter, jaded teammates. And maybe he's left wanting, maybe he gets tired of being lonely, and maybe he fucks up trying to be like them because "he tried to prove himself." And maybe that scene where Optimus, Silverbolt, and Rattrap reach out to him has a little more weight because it isn’t just Cheetor trying to be an adult, but a Cheetor that tried to be them and post Feral Cheetor has real fucking consequences and isn't just a cool upgrade.

I want that episode where Rattrap finds out they spat on Dinobot’s memory by making him into a "dishonorable" clone and goes ballistic. I want him to find the memories Dinobot stowed away and be conflicted. Is it Dinobot without the spark? Could he live with only a shade? Would Dinobot even want that? I want him to try and fail and be utterly distraught over the whole damn thing. I want him to be angry every time he sees Dinobot 2. I want Rhinox to try and fail to comfort him. I want Cheetor to sit with him, neither speaking but both knowing they're in this fucked up mess together now. CONSEQUENCES. WHERE ARE THEY. GIVE THEM TO ME.

I also just really want Blackarachnia to have closer bonds with the team??? Idk, I'm vibin well enough with her and Silverbolt but tbh I'd really just like her to have an episode where she's hanging out with someone else and Isn’t A Complete Rude Person. I think that's something I actually really vibed with in Beast Machines (although my memory there is still pretty fuzzy, I'll probably have to rewatch that to say for sure) Blackarachnia could actually work with the team in a friendly and occasionally sweet way. She was capable of a blunt and angry sort of kindness. Should that happen right away? Nah of course not, she needs to get comfy with her shiny new Dumbfuck Teammates. But there’s no real Solid Connections there other than Silverbolt, which is purely romantic. (Once again I emphasize Cheetor and Found Family)

Rhinox just needs more in general. If I had to guess the reason he was made a villain in beast machines was because he is only Meh as a Developed character after Blackarachnia shows up and takes over tech wise, not to mention rattrap is also pretty damn techy when he wants to be.(it was also probably to increase tension since his whole deal is being diplomatic but that's a separate thing) Sort of an issue when you make them scientists but don't have them specialize in anything and, more importantly, have a weakness in anything. If your character is simply the backup scientist when the other one is out of commission u gotta problem. Rhinox is stagnant personality wise, I can’t honestly say anything about him changes in the whole series. He has functionally gained nothing from this perilous journey, no real trauma, no bonds he didn't already have with the team, not even an upgrade in form. Isn’t rattrap supposed to be his best friend???? SHOW ME MORE THEN. Seriously if this show had let me have Rights I’m not saying I wouldn’t have loved if we had actually Really Dug In to a character arc or something about Rattrap and the concept of Honor vs Loyalty but that’s exactly what I’m saying lets talk about that. Season One Rattrap they played with this a little (After the whole early on “I would not send someone to do something I would not do myself” and “double agent rattrap” WHICH NO ONE WOULD EVER BELIEVE IF THAT HAPPENED ANY LATER THAN IT DID SINCE RATTRAP IS SO ANTIPRED) and the whole Dinobot thing really wedged it in (”But at least you know where he stands”) AND THEN FROM MY SHODDY MEMORIES OF BEAST MACHINES ITS PLAYED WITH EVEN MORE WHEN HE FUCKING GOES TO MEGATRON BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS BEING A LITTLE BITCH TO HIM 

Where was I going with this? uhhhhhhhhhhhhh oh yeah LISTEN Rattrap and his morals are Very Fascinating and I really wished there was more about that. Like, he gives no shits about Doing What’s Right or Being A Good Person, but he rewards friendship and loyalty and not getting him killed by miles. And despite his Hatefest Dinobot he was actually really... shocked? Offended??? about Dinobot handing over the disc because you’re an asshole but you’re also our asshole what fuckery is this did all our arguments mean nothing to you. And then attempting to join Megatron in BM because he might be Evil and it might be Bad Moral Conduct but fuck morals his teammates were being shitty friends. Is that petty of him? Maybe, but if the maximals had been evil but still genuinely kind and caring towards Rattrap I don’t believe he would ever leave for a second, not for all the Morals or Its The Right Thing To Do in the world. And that’s why darkfics that still use Found Family are the best! The End.

All the characters would actually be the size of their animals because goddamit I want a tiny Rattrap that has to be carried around by the others while he screeches indignantly. Or at the very least make him just a little smaller. Just a bit. And maybe they all have a big Sleep Pile. I like physical affection and cuddling and things no I don't care if they're robots no I don’t take criticism. Dinobot would have feathers fight me.

Optimus has died, been tortured, and painfully grew to like 3 times his size why doesn’t he have ptsd someone give him a hug.

Silverbolt is fun, but suffers from the same problem as Blackarachnia where all you really remember about them Relationship wise is the one they have with each other. Who does Silverbolt like best among the maximals, who does he like the least? And if I'm erasing that weird Cheetor crush thing then their interactions probably have a lot less tension so... what else do they have.

Depth Charge is an unrepentant asshole and I love him. He is so hostile but it doesn’t stop him from begrudgingly helping out on occasion. He also gave Optimus some backstory??? Like not as much as my greedy Character Loving hands would have wanted but GIVE ME.

Proof that the Decepticon Way is Not Evil

Hello, Transformer fans.

After doing an essay on the glaring flaws in the Autobot way, I wanted to do one that points out the virtues in the Decepticon way. Note that these good points do not make Decepticons like Megatron or Starscream any less evil. A criminal/terrorist is still a criminal/terrorist regardless of how they identify as and nothing Megatron, Starscream, Knockout or anyone else says or does will dismiss their crimes. Also, Starscream is just a stinker in general. He is NOT the standard of how Decepticons are as even other bad ones don’t like him and think he’s a stinker.

This essay is meant to point out the TRUE things the Decepticon way stands for and why many bots believe in it, and how Megatron and other criminals don’t stand for it as much as they claim they do.

They allow free speech. - If there is one thing that we consider as the bedrock of all freedom, it is free speech even if we may not always like what the other person has to say. While most of the time, this practise of the exercise to say whatever you want is taken too far among the Decepticon terrorists to the point where they show no respect, but the fact that they can is telling. While I myself don’t encourage unkind words, I will chalk one up for the Decepticons in how a Decepticon can say what they want even to Megatron’s face and while he will chastise them vocally for it, unless your words have treacherous implications, he will not so much as give you a slap on the hand. In fact, Megatron will actually listen to someone if they have a good idea or will point out the flaws in his idea. A society that allows people to say what they mean even if it is “my leader stinks” is one that has the right idea. After all, how can you become a better society if no one is allowed to say what is bothering them so the problem can be fixed?

They assign leaders based on merit not a title. - Though the lineage of Decepticon leaders is passed on by default from the one Megatron/Megara to the their child, they are more than willing to make exceptions if someone better for the role comes along. Heck, heirs/heiresses have even been known to refuse the role of leadership. I have to admit that a system that recognises that leadership is not a trait that is passed down genetically is progressive. And for that, I give a point to the Decepticons in that. In Autobot society, a leader system is either hierarchical (from one Prime to their child) or the Autobot Matrix “selects” a leader (and might I add, sometimes, people have been known to misinterpret the Matrix’s reaction or lie about it entirely). The Autobot people have no say whatseover.

They respect individuality. - Did you know that an Autobot can live in a Decepticon community without converting? It’s true. In fact, there are many Autobots who live among Decepticons. Another thing that Decepticons allow is the freedom to believe in what you want meaning they permit people to be Atheist and allow varying levels of how devout you are. They believe religion is a personal thing. Another thing that is obvious about Decepticons is how different all of them are and not just visually. Their alt modes are very diverse. You change into anything you want even if it has nothing to do with your job because they accept that your alt mode doesn’t hinder you from doing your job. Look at Knockout who changes into a luxury car while being a Decepticon medic, Soundwave who changes into a palm sized cassette player and is Megatron’s confidante, and Reflector who change into a camera and is a force to be reckoned with. The only exception are the Seekers and from what I have seen, the Seekers are a special case of which they have the same mold because it is uniform in their case which they consider as an honour to wear. And even then, you can choose your own colours. Another thing that I notice and actually is rather heartwarming is that among Decepticons, they are even more diverse in terms of culture. They have bots of varying origins which you can tell by their accents. Among Autobots, you either sound American (even when oriental). From what I recall, only Perceptor had a European accent (British specifically). When they said “till all are one”, I they didn’t mean all had to be the same.

They are more feminist. - As much as I don’t want to be “that girl”, I have to give hats off to the Decepticons in how they treat women and this shows most of all in how they DRESS the women. Even when a female Decepticon is very feminine that dresses femininely, she will be covered and be dressed for the part rather than show a lot of plating (skin) or be overly pretty. Just compare designs using this list. As much as I myself don’t see anything wrong with female characters dressing beautifully, sexy or being naturally beautiful and sexy, or even them dressing sexy on their own time (I do sometimes), but there is a definite night and day difference between how female Autobots behave and how female Decepticons do. The Decepticon females are more professional and don’t do cute. Note that Blackarachnia was originally a Predacon not a Decepticon and she is also the exception not the standard. And even then, Blackarachnia was honestly good at her job, she was a genius scientist in her own right and she could take care of herself. Even Prime Arcee doesn’t display this level independence or emotional maturity. Another thing that is telling about how they see women and what they value in them is the kind of woman Megatron fell in love with. In G1, Megatron was attracted to a robot ninja Nightbird who wasn’t even a Transformer and wasn’t dressed sexy or anything. She never even flirted with him. He was charmed by her skills as a warrior and how she got the job done. This speaks volumes.

Megatron gives Decepticons a choice on whether to follow him or not. - And no, I am not talking about how he deals with traitors like Starscream. Since the days of G1, there have been Decepticons who did not work under Megatron and Megatron did not criminalise these Decepticons for it. He gives Decepticons a choice on whether or not to serve him directly, and if they say “no”, he moves on. The only time he will ever criminalise a Decepticon is if they directly act against him which is really the only valid reason to criminalise them. Megatron has even been known to respect Decepticons who were independent enough to do without him.

They do not outcast or ostracise the misfits or handicapped. - If there is one noble thing the Decepticons do that I will always take my hat off to them, it is that they do not deem a bot useless or will lock them up for being different or imperfect and they recognise that having a handicap doesn’t make you disabled at everything. Heck, they even employ unchangers (Transformers who cannot transform)! And I can’t help but notice that almost every beast type with the exception of the Dinobots is a Decepticon. I mean, just look at RID. All of the inmates were beast types. They aren’t concerned with what you can’t do or whether you’re pretty to look at. They are just concerned with what you can do. I also want to point out that their own leader Megatron may very well be a mutant, beast type or both. And in the defence of the beast types, mutants and the handicapped, where did the Autobots expect them to go if they got deemed as freaks or were chased out of town everywhere else? As we saw in Animated, Blitzwing who suffers from split personality disorder was still a high ranking respected officer who served Megatron directly and proved to still be a force to be reckoned with as he has a multi-elemental arsenal, he is an amazing fighter, he is a responsible leader when needed and he is a genius. Then we have the Insecticons from Prime who are fiercely loyal to Megatron and not for nothing. Megatron stands up for them even when other Decepticons badmouth them.

The Decepticon way is based on freedom. - The whole reason the Decepticons came to be and all of the points I listed all come back to freedom in all its forms. And after seeing that the Autobot way is not very free at all, is it any wonder that the Decepticons came to be? Now, I am not condoning any criminal activity or terrorism, but I cannot blame rebellion and the demand for change. If you even look closely at the Decepticon insignia, it looks like there is a flying vehicle on it and it was confirmed that this was intentional. Another thing that was intentional since G1 is that all Decepticons can fly in robot mode at least like Superman (though some series forget this fact). The ability to fly is in fact a metaphor for freedom and the original Megatron who founded the Decepticons (not the one we know now) wanted every Decepticon to be able to fly because he wanted every Decepticon to always remember what their faction stands for. Like I said, nothing the bad Decepticons say justifies their criminal activity or terrorism, but it’s clear that the Decepticon way itself isn’t evil.

This is why I think it is also high time we saw more good Decepticons who refuse to convert.

The Rise of the Functionist Cybertron, and the rise of Megatron’s Decepticons.

Survive and Thrive, the main mantra of Cybertronian Religion. Given that those words are associated with Primus, The Primus that birthed the Guiding hand, it is safe to assume that several Cybertronian religions use that phrase in one way or another.

And these are words to literally life and die by in the Functionist universe. These three words are what makes up the Functionist Cybertron and how it operates.

The problem is that it circling the drain, the whole race and culture dying off. We have in fact seen it before.

However, despite it’s outward appearances, the Functionist Cybertron is surviving and thriving, if you stretch that meaning of the word. They deal in absolutes and rule with an iron fist without mass-scale violence on Cybertron. They compromise and give in outside of Cybertron. They pay for peace, to be left alone.

Because that’s the only option that they have.

The rest of space was ready for them. They knew how to deal with mechanicals, they had formed entire bureaucracies in response to mechanicals that could spill over. So even if the Functionist Cybertron wanted to stretch out to gain more resources or bigger borders around them in space, they were slapped down.

But if that fate befell the Functionist Cybertron, why is it exactly Megatron that elevates the Cybertronian race to a force to be fearful of and respect?

It comes from the flawed way that the Functionists fight dissent.

By removing words.

It is a very effective way to fight. The ability to listen to others is very easy to use and accept. The ability to speak and convey ideas is very important when it comes to going against someone, to have the right words, which is a very effective tool. The Functionists believe that by attacking words they are attacking the root of the problem, crumbling down the foundation of something bigger that can overcome them.

The attack on words has even evolved and been made both better and more efficient in the millions of years that has passed. Going after the words is their main method of fighting.

And trying to do the same to alien species isn’t going to work. So there are compromises, the wish to be left alone, to be isolated. Because there is no way to fight against the words of aliens.

The fundamental flaw of this kind of fighting is the failure to acknowledge what lies beneath the words. Because words is not what comes first. It is the meaning of them, what lies beneath.

Because even when Functionist Cybertron Rewind loses hope, the concept behind the words is still there.

And that is what the Functionists overlooked.

Because when Megatron loses his words, but his conviction and the knowledge of the unjust world is still in his mind, he has one tool left for disposal, one thing he can use when words are lacking. Violence. Direct physical violence.

However the use of violence is very hard to direct. In fact others can easily use it and manipulate it for themselves. But what Ratbat failed to account for is whom he sent to manipulate the violence and direct it for his own gain.

Soundwave with his ability to read emotions and know how hard life is in the underground seems like an ideal candidate to negotiate with Megatron, to supply him with the weapons while knowing exactly what to say to him by reading his emotions. But by doing that, the words are stripped away and the underlying meaning stands bare for Soundwave.

Meaning and gestures is also a very powerful tool. It’s subtle, hard to use compared to the written word or to the sharpened sword, but it is still a way to show empathy, even if it is shown in small doses because it is hard to do something stirring emotions in millions of beings. But it is still a viable tactic to use.

Especially when the words are gone.

And from Cybertron arose a new type of Cybertronian species. Someone that does not manipulate words, but uses force first and foremost. Cybertron exploded into space in violence, and continued to use said violence as a default interaction with anything. 

Megatron even does not allow anyone to be able to use words or violence against them as he strikes before anyone would even have the chance.

And yet, both Cybertron worlds are going by the words, Survive and Thrive. Functionist Cybertron does it by paying for peace while keeping the energon shortage at bay by reducing the demand for Energon. Megatron’s Cybertron does it by rapid expansion, making sure that nothing will be able to stand in their way or to rise up against them. Nothing can slap them down with a simple gesture, a single battle or with law, the Cybertronians are too great of a force to be just pushed aside and be forgotten.

Eugenesis, Part Six Scene Four: Xenon Info-Dumps For Five-And-A-Half Pages

Alright, back to bullshit.

Galvatron is being a rude little turd to Xenon, calling his robot collection old and dusty, but Xenon’s too wrapped up in the Quintesson/Cybertronian lore to be bothered. Ultra Magnus just wants to know what the fuck he’s done with the Matrix.

You heard the man, out with it.

So, back when the Quintessons first started out, they were known as the Progenitors- yeah, I know- a quasi-organic race who went from caveman-level intelligence to full-blown hard sci-fi sons of guns at an incredibly rapid rate.  

Problem is, they didn’t get any further than that. They tried, sure. They tried real hard, for millions of years. Then, once their inspiration had run out, they started looking to other races to try and figure something out.

This just in, god is dead and James Roberts killed him by turning him into a glorified OS.

So, P.R.I.M.U.S. is encoded onto these geodes, and they become sentient. Sometimes they think they’re god.

Just like everyone else in this story.

Now that the Quintessons knew about these little god-doodads, they wanted one for themselves, to try and reverse-engineer the secret to immortality. They hired some guys called the Weavers to nab one for them.

This is some serious nerd shit, y’all. Galvatron agrees with me- he’s never even heard of any of the things Xenon’s droning on about. Neither have I- this is all Roberts at this point.

The Weavers brought back two geodes to the Quintessons, who promptly hid them away until the Masters cooled off a bit, since they were a little miffed about the thievery and whatnot. Then they noticed a couple problems: A) the geodes were encrypted to the moon and back, and B) if you so much as looked at the thing wrong it would purge the Lifecode completely.

Didn’t Optimus throw this thing at Unicron a couple times? Maybe the geode just doesn’t like you, Xenon, ever thought of that?

In order to decode the geodes, the Quintessons needed massive computers. Y’know, like God. But before they could really get a head start on that, the Masters’ nanobot enforcers showed up, blocking out the sky like a giant swarm of angry wasps. They wrecked shopped on Quintyxia- the old one, not the new one- and the Quintessons ran for it. They headed for the planet where they’d buried the other geode, but something went wrong with their hyperspace drive, and they didn’t arrive until two million years after they’d set off.

They dug for the geode, hit something metal, and that’s when the quakes started. The Quintessons left, thinking the planet was unstable.

At this point, Magnus is begging Xenon to just get on with it.

The Quintessons headed back to Quintyxia, to find that their lush, green world had been turned into one made of metal. Cybertron. Quintyxia is Cybertron. New Quintyxia is Quintyxia. It’s like that time Prince named himself the Artist Formerly Known As Prince.

Of course that leaves the question of why the nanobots didn’t just destroy the planet instead of… doing whatever they did to make Cybertron Cybertron.

So, Cybertron is a planet-sized computer, tasked with the sole purpose of decoding the meaning of life.

You know, I remember reading somewhere- and don’t quote me on this, because I can’t for the life of me remember where exactly- that Roberts has never read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Now, either he’s lying- which I don’t know why he would, the guy loves references- or this is just a weird thing the collective brain of the English population does, where they all jump to the same ideas in absurdist sci-fi.

When the Quintessons showed up on Cybertron, they were met with the results of the cracked Lifecode- the first Transformers (but they couldn’t transform, that was a thing that developed alongside the war.) They couldn’t do much of anything, really.

Well, now we know where the protoform babies in IDW come from.

The Quintessons, not ones to squander an opportunity, decide to use these fragile, helpless proto-beings as slaves.

Yeah, the Quintessons have kind of been the worst since day one.

They build brain modules, stick them in the ground- Seedlings, Xenon calls them- and watch as the planet wrapped living metal around them and built bodies.  

The Quintessons get pretty good at making the Auto-Bots, and get to a point where they’re drafting up blueprints for each solitary one. Blueprints that Xenon apparently kept, since he’s got all these copies in the pods right now.

If you couldn’t tell already, we’re going with the “the Quintessons made the Transformers” creation myth.

Of course, you make a big enough species, they’re going to need some corralling- that is, if you want to be an awful, controlling, overbearing parent. And the Quintessons definitely wanted that. So, what’s one to do?

…Look, it’s not that I necessarily disagree on a base level, but-

Xenon, you fucking neckbeard.

Because the Quintessons forgot that religion is not a one-set-outcome game, they were surprised to find that it had given their creations hope and will, things you really don’t want your enslaved masses to have.

The Covenant drove off the Quintessons, then fucked off into deep space to spread the message of Primus, with Maximo at the head of things. Maximo was the leader of the Cybertronian Empire and Megatron’s progenitor in the Marvel UK comics. They did leave someone behind to keep the masses within the faith- Primon. He’s important in the comics, just trust me on that.

Oh man, we’re finally getting some answers.

Xenon admits that the Quintessons didn’t come up with everything; there were parts that they just straight-up ripped out of the geode’s owner’s manual.

Oh. Well. That’s… underwhelming. Xenon’s really just dumping the entirety of the Cybertronian religion into the trash at this point, isn’t he? This info-dump has been going on for five pages, and we still aren’t done.

Turns out that kill switch code was pulled from the geode too- 4/11.002983712 is its serial number. That’s like if you called your dad by his first name and then immediately died afterwords.

But whatever happened to that second geode the Quintessons buried on the other planet?

Yeah, that turned into Unicron.

Turns out the virus that wipes the Lifecode from the geode messed up, and made the geode want to kill literally everything in the universe just for being alive.  

Well, isn’t that all just fine and dandy~!

Because the Quintessons didn’t realize what Unicron’s whole deal was at first- the vore-planet had learned how to lie at some point before they met up- they worked together for a time.

At this point the Quintessons had gone from being quasi-organic to something more cybernetically-dependent, so that might have also made things a little difficult in the baby-making department. Or not. I don’t fucking know, things are just happening at this point.

MOTHERFUCKER DO YOU KNOW WHAT BOOK YOU’RE IN

THERE WILL BE NO HAPPY ANYTHING

Storytime’s over, back to the present day. Xenon’s going to take these podded robots and populate New Quintyxia with them. They won’t fight, they’ll be actual, normal people who don’t wage war.

Xenon must have gotten some new glasses, because that’s one hell of a rose-tinted worldview he’s got there.

Ultra Magnus at this point just asks for the Matrix back so they can go home. Xenon says “nah, but check this out tho” and powers on the pod-bots.

Xenon, that’s gross. Don’t make Galvatron and Magnus watch you be weird with the power of granting life, man.

All the robots wake up, stand, and stare up at Xenon, who’s floated up to the ceiling on his power trip. They… aren’t supposed to do that.

Turns out the Matrix is a friggin’ liar, and only promised power because it’s actually Unicron in there. Well, damn.

Galvatron shoots Xenon. Good.

Shoulda sprung for the waterproofing on your Uggs, Mags.

Galvatron’s on a roll, now. He aims at one of the zombies and fires, and they all go down, thanks to their interlinked minds. Crisis averted, I guess.

Magnus, though not happy with Galvatron’s wanton destruction of innocents, has bigger fish to fry at present; he’s convinced that the Matrix is still inside God. Boy oh boy, is he wrong, but the narrative demands he at least tries. He sticks his hand into the computer, up to the shoulder. That’s not good heavy-duty machinery safety.

Well, shit. He’s been possessed by a higher power.

You know, now that I think about it, there’s a good chance that Xenon putting the Matrix into God messed up the killswitch code, and that’s why Prowl had to use a wasting disease to try and end it all. Not really relevant at this exact moment in the story, just a thought I had.

Galvatron, having had enough mystical bullshit for one day, shoots his arm clean off, severing the connection. Magnus drops like a stone, and Galvatron bolts as everything starts coming down around them.

Oh no, Magnus is gonna be our first victim, isn’t he?

Magnus follows after Galvatron, leaving his arm. Hope he doesn’t run into any aqua fortis on the way back to the Trident, because his Pretender shell is beat all to hell.

Then Xenon pulls himself together and stops being dead.

Sigh.

Eugenesis, Part Three Overview: So Many Horrors, And Not One Of Them Was What I’d Been Promised

So, let’s recap what we’ve learned over fifty-nine pages- I know, this one’s a little longer than the others! I was surprised too.
