I have not the words for what this show means to mean, nor specifically this moment in the production.

Today the Department of Awesome Parenting is giving a standing ovation to artist and mother Christina Borchardt, who created this phenomenal Rocket Raccoon costume for her (now) 6-year-old son Chase. Borchardt is actually in the process of making Guardians of the Galaxy character costumes for her entire family, but Chase’s costume was completed in time for him to wear it out for Halloween.
“We are going to be cosplaying Guardians of the galaxy for the next convention we do. (A while from now) my 5 year old really wanted to be Rocket, because he thinks a raccoon that kicks butt and shoots guns is awesome He fell in love with them when they showed up on his spiderman cartoon. I decided to start working on it ahead of time before the next conventions pop up.”
Borchardt made each element of this astonishingly realistic costume by hand and documented the painstaking process on the Replica Props Forum. The extraordinary mask, which features a functional hinged jaw, was made by first taking a mold of her son’s face using low endothermic plaster bandages. She used the mold to create a plaster cast onto which she sculpted Rocket’s face.
“From there she pulled a latex mold in six layers. And from there she made a resin cast. After adding fir, making a working jaw, and fashioning teeth and a tongue, she moved on to the hands, feet, gun, and the rest of the costume.”
Head over to the Replica Prop Forum to check out Borchardt’s entire step-by-step build process. We can’t wait to see her entire family in their Guardians of the Galaxy cosplay, but for now please enjoy this video footage of Chase as Rocket Raccoon:
