The most insidious lie the state tells you is that it can and will protect you from harm. That is a flat-out fucking lie. And it is the most insidious, because that promise is the basis by which people accept state authority over their lives, meaning they allow themselves to be tyrannized and subjugated for no real benefit.
We need only look at the statistics behind major crimes and apply the tiniest ass-hair of scrutiny toward how the state handles major issues in reality to see this.
Hit and runs
Florida: Only 1 in 8 hit and run drivers are actually cited for leaving the scene; only 30% of that number are ever actually convicted of anything.
Los Angeles: Police only solved 8% of all hit and runs in 2017
United Kingdom: Only 8 to 10% of all hit and runs were solved in 2017
Numbers on the issue are sporadic but the few we do have do not look good. Keep in mind, most hit and runs happen in major cities with cameras everywhere, a lot of them traffic cameras that scan license plates, so police have no excuse to just not find most of these people. It's safe to say, therefore, that it's not the circumstances or the victims' fault. It's clearly the police not wanting to do their job and a failure of the state.
Thefts
Pew Research has a lot to say about violent crimes in the U.S. in general, so we're going to casually rip off its charts to look at thefts specifically.
Have a look at those numbers for larceny, motor vehicle theft, and burglary. A lot of the time, people don't even report them, which I wholly blame on the failure of the state and people's increased recognition of that fact.
But look at the numbers we have. 69% of all car thefts are reported, and only 13.1% of that 69% are solved. That means only 9% of all car thefts are actually solved. That means, if you chose to steal a car, you'd get away with it 91% of the time!
Only 6% of the burglaries are solved, meaning if you chose to break into someone's house, you'd get away with it 94% of the time. (And you all wonder why right wingers obsess over the possibility of evildoers breaking into their house and killing their loved ones in the night)
Even robberies are only solved 18% of the time, so if you were ever wondering why Bruce Wayne donned the cape and cowl, there's your answer.
Alright, so now we're going to move on to the heavy stuff. And let me warn you now, these stats WILL piss you off or hurt you if you are sensitive to that sort of thing, so big fucking trigger warning for incoming rape and murder discussion. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Murder
We'll start you off gently. The Pew research numbers up above state that murders are solved 61% of the time, which people would assume by banana republic standards is pretty alright. But it's not the whole story, not by a long-shot. Those clearance rates (percentage of solved cases) used to be a lot higher -- the state used to actually attempt to do a good job -- but have dropped like a rock since the 1960s.
Case in point, Los Angeles. Have a look at this chart that I totally ripped off from CBS:
Look at that horrific shit. It went from 90% in 1965 to 55% in 2020. Like why even pretend the state has any meaningful authority if this is what they're going to allow to happen on their watch?
The Murder Accountability Project has national stats that really drive the point home:
Look at that. Throughout the 2020s so far, only half of all murders go unsolved. You see how on the left, the red bar and the gray bar almost touch, while on the right, they're both the same fucking size? And how the bars split apart and stayed apart since 1980, meaning this is not just because of the lockdowns. That means the state is failing in its most basic of functions: protecting the lives of its people, and therefore it should just be ignored and people need to start doing for themselves.
Oh, but it gets worse, friends. Much, much worse. So much so that I'm going to have to make a second post addressing the other, more horrible statistics that have come out.
And given that, I will actually have to place a giant fucking trigger warning when we look at them, because the numbers are so disturbing as to be terrifying, and without the right mindset walking in, they actually can damage the reader's trust in other people.
So look out for part 2, and consider yourself warned if you do.
#statistics#crime statistics and rates#truth#facts#politics#knowledge#society#slave racket#abuse#society explicitly allows abuse and crime to keep its members broken and afraid#and it exploits evil members of the society to do its dirty work to keep the people turned against each other#this helps society keep people broken and exploitable and stops them from banding together and fighting back#this maintains society's stability#meditate on that for a little while#then ask yourself if participation is worth it

It’s Gangle!
I’ve been trying to get a sense for how to draw all the characters and Gangle seemed intimidating to draw at first, but I think she might end up being fun to paint after working on this piece!
#I smudged the dots at the top while they were drying so I painted over them with a darker color to cover up that mistake#I was so upset when I did that though blargh#that is where digital art is very nice because there’s literally a brush that can make all those dots#But it is kind of meditative to do such repetitive designs by hand#traditional art#watercolor#tadc gangle#the amazing digital circus#tadc fanart#my art#I went on a little painting spree once my break started but I might have to dial back for the next few days#got some other business to take care of

[TUVOKTOBER: Day 17] Little Things Grown with Care.
#I drew this based heavily on illustrations by seiichi hayashi! They all have a pretty calming dreamy feel#I also had to reference Tuvok's room which was HARD#You catch a glimpse of it in 'Alter Ego' though.#he has so many candles and candle holders and ornate looking trinkets#I like it...it feels grandparent-cozy if that makes sense? Like it'd smell of incense and be a little too warm#and then there's also - of course- the plants <3 mostly flowers#I like the thought of Tuvok's loungewear being a bit fancy and silky#but when someone knocks at the door he quickly pulls on a robe or gown to go over it for modesty's sake#I wonder what he does in the privacy of his quarters...we really on see him meditating or reading#I wonder if he ever watches a movie and eats whatever he'd consider a snack while lounging on the couch#I wonder if he hums while cleaning#Tuvoktober#Tuvok#st voyager#st voyager art

bro HOW do you have patience to draw all those spots. Teach me
1. be insane about cat taxonomy and coat variation
2. select tool to block out shapes; sharply tapered pen with 40% stabilizer setting to smooth and add flyaway strands. same pen settings for eraser
3. adderall
#i honestly have just been doing it long enough that ive been able to streamline the process#unfortunately i cant teach just being comfortable and familiar with the technique/process#but it can be quite meditative#if not a little tedious…#i’ll link the tutorial i did in a little while#gotta find it first

You do witchcraft???
That's so cool! I had no idea there were other witches in the TMNT fandom!!!
What kind of witchcraft do you practice?? Personally, I deal mostly with divination, but I'd love to hear more about other people's crafts!
I do! ^^ Though admittedly my practice has been a little bit dormant as of late because I sort of fell out of habit after An Event which was a Bit Disruptive to My Life lol. But I guess I kind of dabble in a bit of everything? I dunno if I could pin myself down to just one kind of practice yet, I still sort of consider myself a Baby Witch. But I really like making little spelljars and casting candle spells and things of the like, and I've been trying to learn tarot for a while now! I also really like making and drawing sigils... For a while part of the joy for me has been just Learning New Things.
^ ft. gecko enclosure and tail lol. BoS and altar not pictured.
#ive got kind of a budget witchcraft thing going on lmao#coz thats kind of my fav part of it? that you can kind of just do it however a little bit so long as you have like#intention and are mindful#all my spelljars are the bottles that vaccines would come in at my old workplace (i used to work at a vet office!)#and since we would mostly just throw them out i could just take them and repurpose them so now ive got a ton#ive got a small collection of crystals coz i like those#my practice is a lot of meditation and grounding and mindfulness and shit like that#blah blah blah tricking myself into taking care of me etc etc#for a while i would. like. every day meditate ground and choose an intention for the day#and pick out some pocket crystals to bring with me that matched that intention#but then my schedule got fucked in eight different ways = 3 = so im working on getting back to it#eventually lol#honestly i love talking abt this stuff and would love to get back into it/meet other ppl who do witchcraft its been a hot second since#like#ive truly indulged...#asks#anon#witchcraft#witchblr#i gotta follow some witchy blogs smh lemme know if yall have any suggestions

Films good movies good banshees of inisherin was good
#mfw a movie has irish slang in it and i am familiar with it instead of usamerican stuff#i have Some Thoughts on the setting of inisherin + the time period given the givens abt the aran islands#but nothing concrete. might meditate on it#like ok im no scholar on the aran islands ive been there a couple times ive read a couple articles thats it#but like. the tourism leaning into their image of Old Irish Villagín With Sheeps And Stone Walls basically overruns its reputation#and the islands have leaned hard into the tourism and portraying themselves as True Irish Old Villages or whatever#and thus settles the situation where like. everything about the islands pander to the tourists#the islands themselves are not doing well as places to live iirc#aging population people moving away lack of amenities and funding and resources that arent Tourism#its a gaeltacht but the tourism business mandates knowing english etc etc etc lotsa shit#like i had a school friend from an island and she was always unreachable on breaks bcos the island didnt have wifi#SO! the islands around ireland suffer from lack of facilities while bending to tourism bcos they gotta#BACK 2 BANSHEES to be clear inisherin isnt an actual island but it was filmed on inish mór and very clearly based on the arans#i like the island setting bcos of the sense of isolation it gives i think it was a good choice for the movie#HOWEVER its like. you know the thing where all irish media needs to be set in the old times#when we were all wearing aran wool jumpers and playing our little instruments and being cute historical dotes#yeah. that. compounded with the aran islands wicked having to play into that in the present day#like banshees itself isnt that bad an offender. the island setting just makes it more obvious and you could tick lines off on a bingo sheet#(shoutout to the obligatory civil war reference)#where was i going with this. im tired of weird 'back when ireland was ireland' shit being Thee thing to make art abt#this is why young offenders is the best piece of irish cinema this decade. i need to rewatch the young offenders

What if God sent an angel to the world of Kung Fu Panda, so that he would be on the side of the villains so they wouldn't make wrong choices to commit a terrible fate and have a chance at life and become great people... (this angel will disguise themself deer... and they will follow Taí Lung, Lord Shen, General Kai and the Chameleon as a companion, but they will kind of make songs to teach them, just like Charlie from Hazbin hotel. This angel will be kind, optimistic and intelligent, and loves to sing and help people)
*Nodding*
Okay, okay, yeah, I'm with you.
... *looks over at Shen*
... But boy does that angel have their work cut out for them XD Goodluck!
#i love this idea XD this would make such a fun cute (DEEP) cartoon!#let tai lung work through his issues in season 1#let him then go live peacefully for season 2 at a farm where he can just meditate drink tea and harvest carrots while shen#avoids improvement like the plague. but eventually improve anyway- a little.#then i want to see shen be a very unhelpful sarcastic annoying tea-sipping Background Creature in season 3 and 4 while#the poor angel tries to help bull-headed kai and the cameleon who know nothing about yet. sorry 😅

I started reading Lord of the Rings (bought Fellowship of the Ring like… last spring but never got around to starting) and I’d just like to say. Holy fuck what a slow book. You mean to tell me I’m over a hundred pages in and this man is only just leaving the Shire? Sign me up for MORE I love this shit. Tolkien said “I will take exactly as much time as I want to describe things and you will like it”. AND I DO
#i can already tell this is the sort of thing that’s going to be so good I’ll never recover from it#I’ve watched the movies like casually-in-the-background a couple times so I know the approximate plot#(they often run on TV somewhere around Christmas and New Year’s in Sweden so they’ve been on more than twice)#but there’s so much detail here that’s just… missed out on… in the films#Or I forgot about it lmfao#Either way loving the book detail#And also reading a book for the first time in months i told my mom id been reading today and she was like YOURE READING?!#It’s part of my social media healing process. Forcing me to like… sit down and take shit in#Used to DEVOUR books when I was younger#Just Kinda Stopped at some point (much like every other former gifted kid)#But it’s a well missed moment of escapism and calm and centering myself. meditative almost#I find lotr to be good also because it’s like… a little heavy. You can read a chapter and then sit with it for a little while#Im not quite reaching the heavy cliffhangers yet either#Each chapter feels pretty concluded#It’s a healthier reading method I feel than the ‘devour in one night then don’t read for 6 months’ thing I did in high school#the few times i DID sit down to read a book#God damn those are some long tags#z talks#not horse game#I feel so late to the party because I always see all these people enjoying lotr ;-; its so established and here am i….#but alas

oh the inherent autistic4autistic romance of harold and maude (1971). im gonna lose my mind
they. i. omg. look i've seen this movie 3 times and it always gets better. it's very good i love it dearly. im not sure what this post is im just gonna talk about them being autistic that's all.
sensory stuff (sensory seeking, in particular):
maude's scent machine (to "give her nose a treat"!!), harold's enjoyment of it
her "switch to the tactile" via things like statues, her encouragement to explore it in a variety of ways, which harold does in some unconventional ways, i.e. sticking his head in lol
when replanting the tree maude mentions a love of dirt for sensory reasons (i believe it's the way it feels but it might be the smell)
that scene where harold's like ooh the day's so nice i feel like somersaulting and she's like yeah!! go do it!! and he's like but id feel stupid and she's like everyone has a right to make an ass of themselves. and then he somersaults. very neurodivergent friend group of them that kind of enabling is literally me and my friends
in the above scene, maude declines harold's offer of a cartwheel and says she feels like yelling, then does so. vocal stim
maude's breath of fire morning routine could also be a vocal stim
arguably maude's fascination with art and them watching the fireworks and model trains could be visual stims, but that's a bit more of a stretch. still.
maude's clutter could also be kind of a visual stim. i like visual clutter for that reason; perhaps she doesn't mind it in her home
maude's focus on music and making sound, something she passes to harold via the banjo, singing (even if imperfectly), etc
they dance :) (harold's dance at the end particularly feels like stimming to me)
harold sitting upside down on the therapist's chair
harold's morning-after bubble blowing could be visual
maude likes stealing different kinds of cars for the variety. this, combined with how she comments on how harold's hearse drives, makes me wonder if it's a vertebral/proprioceptive kinda thing where she likes feeling the cars move differently, like the different leans to their turns and how they start and stop, things like that (mecore)
communication/self expression:
harold expresses himself through faking his death in a variety of gruesome and creative ways
harold drives a hearse!! and he likes it. even as his wardrobe moves from black and he stops going to funerals it's the one thing he holds onto
harold's affect is relatively flat. his smiles are pretty small and rare and he almost never raises his voice
harold makes little to no effort to hold conversation with others besides maude outside of performances (i.e. faking maude's death with uncle victor). a lot of this is because he detests the situations he's in (i.e. the dating service calls or speaking to the motorcycle cop), but even when speaking could theoretically add to the performance, he chooses not to, instead silently showing what he needs to, i.e. in the harakiri scene. in short, mecore
maude infodumps and overshares and i love her. it matches well with harold's relative quiet. like when she's walking to her house after harold drives her home for the first time and she talks about her friend who gave her the keys and tricks to car theft? unnecessary. but wonderful
not sure how to explain this one but when harold begins to cry when telling the chem lab story, maude doesn't say anything like, "im sorry, that sounds really hard", but instead talks about people backing away from life, and does her "give me an L give me an I" L-I-V-E cheer. it's not a typical response, but it's one that resonates with harold (not that saying the former can't be an autism vibe bc i for sure rely on scripts in situations like that Because they're unfamiliar, but it depends person to person yk)
harold falls in love and plans on proposing within a week, potentially suggesting very strong experiences of emotions
i mean. the whole movie is maude being like get weird be authentic explore and love life and then them being weird. unmasking journey starts NOW!!!!
harold knows that the only way to get people to leave him alone is to scare them away, or to make them think he's a lost cause that they can't make "more normal". he tends to do this instead of talking. obv faking his deaths, but also faking maude's murder, showing his mother maude's photo instead of explaining beyond exactly what's needed, torching the car his mother exchanged the hearse for, etc. he knows he won't be accepted and uses his weirdguy vibe to his advantage bc he knows they think he's weird anyway. and also because he doesn't want to talk much in general
when confronted by a cop about stealing a car she's like yeah i took it. and this tree. she doesn't bother lying bc she doesn't see a problem with it and/or because she isn't afraid of the cop
when harold goes to tell his mother that he's planning to marry maude he interrupts her even though she's on the phone multiple times because he Has To Tell Her Now
harold sending the hearse off the cliff at the end as a symbolic but ultimately useless gesture is another silent death he expresses himself with, but one he is rebirthed from
interests/beliefs:
harold's interest in death and destruction are kinda his only hobbies for a while, and are ones that keep him isolated
they go to strangers' funerals for shits. enough said (they also freely admit to not knowing the deceased like they do not care)
maude chooses to end her life at 80. she has a very positive, loving view of death in relation to life and change, and does not see this as sad, nor does she consider her relationship with harold as a reason to stay longer. she's made that decision, and he's just one beautiful component of an endlessly beautiful world she's leaving behind. her perspective is not common, but it's something that drives her throughout the movie, that search for life and whimsy
the romance itself is unusual, but the only ones who question it are outsiders. they both seem unphased by the age gap. the taboo doesn't matter to them at any stage
maude's past of protest could suggest a strong sense of justice, and her disregard of law could suggest an "im not gonna follow this rule if it's not right/doesn't make sense" attitude (she also explicitly ties her unorthodox behavior to her protest experience, saying it's her own, small form of resistance. just against social norms generally)
harold's rejection of normal social conventions i.e. dating, hanging out at funerals/demolition sites, etc. as well as his disdain for the military (particularly the way it manifests when he's tricking victor into not enlisting him by pretending to be bloodthirsty and screaming at maude that she's a commie pig, reflecting how he sees victor/those like him) show a kind of disregard of/distaste for hierarchy and norm (though he does feel those pressures to mask, as shown by the somersaulting conversation)
maude brings a yellow umbrella to a funeral, not even trying to blend in or seem mournful (her use of color is tied to how live flowers are used at funerals rather than dead ones. it's another joy and life thing. this logic of "i don't get why everyone does this. why should i not celebrate life here/in this way?" is straightforward and unaffected by/in spite of norms but IS affected by/because of her world view in a way that's real autistic to me)
misc
maude collects stuff
maude shows an unusual amount of empathy for the tree in town and moves to rescue it. this may be contrasted with her flippantness about the trouble her car stealing may cause people to show both an unusual amount of empathy for inanimate objects/non human beings and low empathy for humans
something so so very autistic to me about harold blowing up the chemistry lab at his boarding school and just. going home. jdjhsksg he didn't tell anyone he just went to bed im--
when maude says all the daisies are different she mentions all kinds of subtle details, which could indicate a higher level of observation than average
maude shows almost no sense of danger or fear. whether she's being questioned by cops in a stolen vehicle or telling her new lover she's poisoned herself, she seems carefree. that could be because of how much horror she's faced, or because of her knowledge that it'll end soon and she won't have to deal with the consequences for long. but it could also be autism
harold has a similar unusual relationship with fear. he's totally fine with the stunts that could easily go wrong and with maude falling into the ocean and with mixing random chemicals in a lab for shits but when it comes to other people putting him in situations he's upset
harold has no friends and is misunderstood and made to change to become more "normal" by everyone except for maude
just. the themes of societal oppression by demanding conformity. and resisting it by living authentically. they're Everywhere in this movie and that's inherently coded towards all kinds of marginalization, neurodivergency included (one way i haven't mentioned that this appears is in the implication that maude is a nazi concentration camp survivor, as evidenced by the numbers tattooed on her wrist. obviously, fascism and eugenics are heavily invested in removing difference, whatever it may be. nazis did focus on autism somewhat (hans asperger was a nazi doctor, after all), so that could be a sort of autistic coding, though it is (understandably) generally not used as such because they were not nearly as much of a focus to them. such coding is much more often for jewish people for that reason. it's more likely that she is/was jewish, or frederick was, or she helped others who were victimized, or resisted, etc. anyway, her drive to live fully regardless of convention could be related to seeing so much death and suffering firsthand, or to a complete rejection of the ideology that brought it and anything that resembles it. it seems influenced by that, at least.)
tl;dr harold and maude is about rejecting small talk and dating and the government and instead smelling things and rolling around in the grass and loving completely life and living weirdstyle. plus they both give me Vibes. that's all go watch harold and maude
#no not everyone who rejects societal norms and is goofy and stims is nd. but these two are <3#theyre just like me and my buddies fr#harold and maude#unusually frequent beloved movieposting this week huh. neat#look sometimes ya gotta drop an hour on a zero note post for yourself. meditation#anywya this was not meant to be so long and even so it's not comprehensive. theres probably more#but yeag 👍 autism. proof: uhh i like them.also all of this dtuff#also shoutout to my ouppy dog for sitting in the dark on the floor with me while i typed this waiting for me to pet her#autism girlie camaraderie with my dog#her feet are now twitching i think shes dreaming omg i love her sm. my little stinkman my babushka

-->While Smiler was bopping away, Victor had finished his upgrading, so I had him transportalate down to the greenhouse, change into more appropriate clothes, and start tending all the plants (a process made a little bit harder today by his bees being angry about life and stinging him occasionally). Alice, meanwhile, was stopped from going out to shower in the rain (Erratic Sims…) and forced to finish her breakfast and take a quick wolf nap to calm her instincts before I sent her out to feed Toothy the cowplant and the poor starving chickens. Fortunately going out in the thunderstorm didn’t make her scared (one of the few perks of a Sim being Erratic) – though it did break her umbrella, so that wasn’t great. Despite this, though, she got everybody fed, cleaned out the coop, and got all five eggs waiting in said coop without incident. Feeling both proud of her for staying on task and bad that I'd made her work in the rain, I then directed her to head inside and up to her and Victor’s bedroom, before having her change into her outfit with the Delicate “bad mood calming” bracelet and start working on her latest book again (the mystery “Who Stole The Tarts?” in case you need a reminder – I did!). She plugged away at that for a bit while I checked in on Victor – he’d finished all his tending, so I decided to have him super-sell his garden –
After he’d bonded with his bees to stop them being so angry. And after he’d evolved his taro root. And after he’d gathered soy wax off his soy plant. And after he’d gotten a pee – which involved him magically fixing the downstairs toilet because at some point it broke (I think the moment he tried to sit down on it, in fact). And after he’d given Surprise a lecture on scratching the furniture. I’m saying it took a WHILE to get to super-selling all that produce. XD But he did get there eventually, poor guy!
-->And then I looked at Alice again and noticed her Fury was getting really high because, despite her bracelet’s best efforts, her “gotta be outside” werewolf instincts were giving her lip. I quickly sent her out into the backyard (fortunately the rain had calmed down to a drizzle at this point, AND her umbrella was back in good repair) and had her somber howl to lower her Fury – then, deciding I wanted to be extra safe on a party day, sent her back up to the séance room to meditate the rest of it away. Smiler, meanwhile, was finally allowed to stop dancing for the camera (I’d left them like that for a while because, uh, it was just easier ^^;) and upload the video to their production station so they could start editing it and adding effects and transitions and all that jazz. Victor, for his part, finished his super-selling at last – I immediately made him Repairio the wind farm (those things break SOOO MUCH) and smash up a twisted tendril growing outside Moory’s pen before having him harvest the prairie grass in said pen. XD No rest for the wicked – or the magical! Though he got a pretty good harvest out of the prairie grass – not only did he bundle up plenty of hay, he also found a bottle of potato nectar – and a bottle of VITALITY nectar. AKA the nectar that can deage Sims and bring ghosts back to life. O.o So yeah, that right there? That is the GOOD stuff. Have to remember to get him to store it in the aging racks later!
-->Anyway – while Victor was getting that done, Smiler uploaded and hyped their finished video (just in time for it to be included in the royalty money for the day, nice), then ran downstairs to lecture Shock for scratching furniture and drinking from puddles. I couldn’t get a good picture of either as Shock kept running away from Smiler to do something else as they tried to lecture her (like going to drink from puddle in the bathroom while Smiler was trying to tell her no scratching the living room chairs), but the lessons DID take, and Shock has learned not to do either thing anymore. Hooray! I then had Smiler mop up all the puddles around the place and take a quick shower as I checked in on Alice – to my delight, she was completely Fury-less! Yay! :D And even better, I quickly discovered an activity to keep her busy while I tried to wrangle Smiler and Victor (Smiler, finished with their shower, was trying to mold the clay blob in the bathroom from last episode while Victor wanted to chat with them) – the laundry! The hamper was starting to look a biiit full, so I had her search everyone’s pockets, then load up the washer with the clothes and a chrysanthemum and set them tumbling. Victor and Smiler had headed back up to Smiler’s room to dance to the tunes coming out of their radio at this point, so I just had Alice head up and join them for a little dance party –
#sims 4#the lazy save#victor van dort#alice liddell#smiler always#yeah Victor had a little bit of a time of it this morning#there was a LOOOT of tending to do#and bees to look after#and needs to fulfill#but he did eventually get to reap the profits of his hard work#again not like this family needs the money but#also I'm glad I caught Alice when I did#she's already wrecked one party thanks to an uncontrolled transformation#I did not want it to happen again#hooray for my mods that allow werewolves to meditate their Fury away!#very useful Waffle's Mix-Ins thank you#though I would also like to get her some Moonstone jewelry at some point#that would be helpful too!#(actually they could all use some since it drops thirst decay for vampires and makes spellcasters less prone to overload)#(we'll see what happens and if I find any while out and about!)#but yes your very typical busy morning for the group#is it any wonder I just had Smiler dance for ages while I tried to wrangle the others?#it's not like they don't enjoy it XD#if it wasn't for my fear that the game would go right back to pestering me about making Victor Paranoid again#(because of all the haunted house stuff)#I'd turn on self-discovery moments and see if they got Dance Machine#maybe I'll stick it on a future Smiler ;)#queued

Honestly? Did I want more from DTAMHD? Yes, I did. I wanted something signifying actual progression for Dennis' character (even just a crumb of genuine growth) , and I sincerely don't think we got that. However... we did get a fascinating insight into the process of his mind. Dennis' level of self-denial is so ironic and profound. He can't acknowledge the inevitability that he's middle-aged.
(I swear this episode honestly has given me an alt hc, that the show is based in his mind; because logistically, a man of his lifestyle and malnourishment could not commit the feats he is constantly sailing through. TGGB & DTAMHD... back-to-back? What happened to his hand? Did he even sprain it? Or is he just the most dramatic brat in the gang - clearly the latter.)
It is important to note that he didn’t fix the actual problem. He momentarily masked the symptoms, but ignore long-term help with blood pressure medicine is not going to fix the issue, nor is it going to protect him from fucking keeling over in a stressful situation (when he's not in a contained and quiet Doctor's exam room) and his blood pressure spikes.
I'm honestly a little jaded at this point (16 Fucking Seasons of crumbs, y'all), but if one were to continue 'trusting the structure' this episode conveyed a lot.
The B Plot: The pressure cooker. The metaphor parallels the building pressure Dennis quick-tempered bouts of rage. So, to toss out a little 'cat-in-the-wall' conjecture here: The pressure cooker is Dennis, but we all saw him eat that bloody diamond in the end and we all heard Mac's speech about coal turning into diamonds under massive pressure. Dennis' experience is a theory of pressure, he daydreams it all in the span of a minute or so. He's roleplaying with hypothetical obstacles. There's no risk. Maybe Dennis, isn't the pressure cooker, but the coal.
If I were to try and take anything hopeful out of this episode, it would be the way the narrative is showing us that this episode acknowledged that Dennis isn't ready yet. It's not his turn to break. It's going to take real, substantial pressure to get that diamond.
It was a hell of a misdirect (and honestly a little bit of a slap in the face), but if these characters live in the real world, where people are bound by the laws of mortality, then Dennis should have his time.
Genuinely, who fucking knows?
I'm not hating on the episode. We all know this is the trashy dick joke sitcom. I just thought that if Mac & Charlie could have moments of genuine heartbreak, culminating in deep catharsis, that maybe Dennis could have that too.... but no.
Can't wait to see the sunny dudebros miss the point & proclaim Dennis Reynolds - SA victim, traumatized individual with an emotionally tumultuous personality disorder - the new Andrew Tate.
I'm sorry, but yeah. I'm a little miffed. It was all a dream, and everything goes Dennis' way. Y'all I'm fucking tired. This was a great episode for Glenn, but a fucking frustrating episode for Dennis. I may have wanted a little macden, but all I cared about was seeing Dennis face the limitations of his mortality, to see that he's failing his body and his brain. He didn't have to actually take the medicine (I wouldn't expect him to), but Goddammit, everything seems to work out in his delusional favor. So, of course he's going to continue being delusional, and probably only change for the worse.
I'll say it: I wanted a broken Dennis, and we did not get that. He didn't even crack, the unbearble and apparently now canonical Golden God. That episode's title was intended to tease sunnyblr.
Excuse the plethora of tags. I just kept getting more irritated.
#what i take from the episode is further insight to the lengths of Dennis' repression which adds to my fic#iasip s16#i will say this: i can't dislike this episode solely because of how phenomenal glennjamin's performance was.#I'd say I'm retracting the title of macden 'truther'. I'm still a stan. but this ep made me realize dennis is too coddled by the narrative#with TGGB he's constantly winning. even the game he doesn't stay to watch the end of. his body performing near miracles. wtf#the real reason I'm seriously bothered is the sunny dudebros. they already idolize dennis#this ep has only made it worse because the obvious point of Dennis' actual delusions will go right over their heads.#anybody with a grounded sense of reality can tell you that dennis did not solve a problem#he dreamt up a scenario in some kind of toxic meditation session. he's getting older. and his denial is metastasizing#Dennis' denial isn't sustainable. I'm kind of cutting off my investment in that regard. he's a fucking mess & he's currently being idolized#dennis reynolds#definitely not my favorite episode. not bc of lack of macden. a little bc Den needs limitations. mainly bc 'it was all a dream' is cheap#ranting.excuse me for wanting 1 of my fave characts actually have his poor health.self-destructive coping mechanism/trauma acknowledged#can't believe i was actually afraid i wouldn't be able to write because too much might happen in DTAMHD...! 🤣#it should've all happened. but instead ended w/him getting charges pressed when he tried to break into ceo's home#ngl. this one hurt. I'm ready for Mac to give up on Dennis. i just wish this fucking show would let him.#excuse me while i go bawl like a baby watching MFHP. because I'm heartbroken that Dennis' BPD makes him push Mac away.#let's just say that realization has been bogging me down in my personal life the last couple of days. & this bummed me out.#Robert McElhenney. I'm outside the studio screaming at you to just let Mac move on & actually meet someone!#I'm not saying he deserves a relationship. but fuck... after 40 yrs of repression can he at least have a fling & fall out of love w/Den?#Dennis won't ever let him meet someone. & he'll never treat Mac like he actually cares about him.bc his own vulnerability terrifies him.😭

#word vomit alert!!!!!#i love solo trips out bc i get to do whatever i like without having to make conversation with people but omg.......#this trip has evoked alarming levels of loneliness and melancholy for some reason#maybe it's got something to do with just seeing Too Many People at once... and seeing people live their lives and enjoy company#n then i see myself n while i see an independent carefree person who's at peace with herself there's also a tinge! of! melancholy n pining..#for companionship... for easy conversations... for connections!#i was also listening to Fourever while roaming around aimlessly and when Happy started playing i immediately teared up#i think i just have too many things on my mind djskfksmmdskkd i need to get back to journaling n meditating. too much anxious energy#also during dinner i sat next to a couple who seemed to be on their first date post dating app conversation. n it reminded me of my prev rs#dkfkfnmsfndnmdm i wouldn't call it ptsd bc they were good memories but personally i would most likely never use a dating app ever again.....#it's just too much pain having to talk through icebreakers n get to know each other with the topic of Dating already looming in the bg#n it's just a lot of Work for a first date you know??? anyway i'm tired of relationships. i would love organic platonic companionship tho#like i would love more friends. just not a Partner shdkfjdndndmd#but with that said !!!! it's sometimes lonely being single. but the thing is. there's no company that i'd prefer more than my own#i bring too much joy and peace to myself that i feel like it's almost impossible for anyone to meet those standards#it's very much like that tiktok where op said her app guy asked her who his competition was and she answered: Myself. your competition is me#and that was just the truest thing i've seen#also met an unkind worker at dinner. wasn't directed at me but the energy he gave off was just so Bad that it ruined my evening KDKDJSKDK#like . how can someone be so miserable n unkind n mean to the people around him??? as if they aren't deserving of respect... it boggles me#n so todays trip has been so . strange. i felt sad! witnessed unkindness! i felt a little lonely!#i unknowingly self-reflected a lot n probably spiralled into a rumination cycle! thought abt work n how it seemed like there was No Way Out#but !! it is what it is!!!
