thinking about how hatchling joined the space program at such a weird time while everything was falling apart, and i’m just now realizing how that matches their place in time and the fate of the universe (first launch being on the last day and all.)
i also like to imagine they’re kinda like feldspar, with their enthusiasm for space, slight disregard for safety and lack of a sense of self preservation, and their willingness to take challenges head on; i wonder if, just for a while, they were the last thing holding the program together? that weight was on their shoulders and they didn’t even know it. now the weight of the universe is on their shoulders and they couldn’t be more aware

i also headcanon that hatchling joined the space program younger than they’d normally allow, and the only reason gossan took them on was because they reminded them of feldspar
in a time where they were looking for any reason to keep the program going, that little glimpse of felds was all they needed

me: oh man, Joann Fabrics is closing. That's going to really suck for a lot of people
Sophia, the Victorian ghost who haunts a lamp I bought at Brimfield: not the least among them Joanne. though I suppose her business acumen must have been wanting if she gave the shop her Christian name- it just seems undignified. was that what drove her customers to other establishments?
me: well, nothing- it's a chain, and in most places, there weren't any other fabric stores.
Sophia:
Sophia: there weren't. any other dry goods stores. selling fabric.
me: not usually, no.
Sophia: in a whole town
me: no.
Sophia: and now there will be nowhere to purchase fabric at all in those towns
me: not in person. I guess people can buy it online
Sophia: what if they don't know what different weaves feel like? how will they learn if they never get to handle them?
me: some places have free swatch service on their websites-
Sophia: so they'll wait a week or more for a swatch, decide if they like it, then send away for the full amount of goods they need and wait even longer for that? what if they want something finished sooner?
me: they'll just be frustrated, I guess
Sophia: wait, why did Joanne's shops close? if she had such a monopoly, surely she'd have made quite a profit regardless of the name
me: an even bigger company bought them and couldn't use them to make billions of dollars, so they're forcing them to close
Sophia:
me: wait- PUT MY SNOW SHOVEL DOWN AND STEP AWAY FROM YOUR LAMP

Do y'all ever think about the fact that the way you spent your first loop is canonically the way all the loops before Hatchling was aware of the time loop happened, so if you died before seeing the supernova it means that Hatchling died like that in all the previous loops, meaning that their first ever solo flight would have been their last even without the end of the universe ?
Do y'all ever think about that, or is it just me ?
#i flew into the sun#(and then the next loop i went to dark bramble forgot my spacesuit and died)#(and then the next loop after that i went to dark bramble got lost first on the planet and then inside the planet ran out of oxygen n died)

SSO Archery - My opinion
Babe wake up, new SSO update just dropped and I have something to say about it 🫡
Let me start this off by saying that I LOVE the idea of archery being an activity to do in the (unfortunately-not-a-travelling-fair) medieval arena -now named medieval camp apparently?-
The set up and the models for the targets are gorgeous and I do like that it takes place in Greendale, it gives the place some love and attention.
I also want to clarify that I did both the introductory training and the daily one to see if it was different from the guided one,
But...
I do believe the way it's programmed falls a bit short and makes the activity itself underwhelming.
Here's my overall opinion set up with some bullet points for easier reading;
★ It feels more like a waiting mini game rather than actually doing archery, half of the time you're doing the activity you're just waiting for the game to actually pass the target since you're not allowed to aim yourself.
★ The arrows themselves take too long to be launched and in the end it doesn't even land where you clicked on, I understand that they tried to do this to add some timing difficulty to your throws, but in the end the arrow actually just lands on where your screen is aiming at 3 seconds after you initially clicked for. Which just doesn't work well if I'm already keeping my timing in mind to do it right.
★ There is no real point system, so it doesn't really matter where your arrow lands on the target. This kinda defeats the whole purpose of archery training? The whole purpose of archery with targets is to try and land your arrow closest to the centre... So why do I only get 1 point per arrow regardless of its positioning? I think an actual point system should be implemented to at least make it worth waiting for the AI to aim at the target and watch our throwing timing.
★ With all that I've said before I think it's pretty obvious that I'm going to say there is no challenge (wow, an SSO player saying the game isn't challenging? What a twist!), personally I didn't feel excited about trying to get my arrow in the best spot possible because I just got one point regardless and there wasn't any threat of failure, or me actually having to learn a skill like aiming properly.. you just.. wait and click just for the arrow to not even land where you timed it for.
Don't get me wrong here, I definitely think there's a lot of room for improvement! Right now I just think the system is very underwhelming and not fun whatsoever since half of the time I was just waiting for the AI to decide it wanted to pass the target. As always this is just my opinion so if you don't agree with me here and you totally love the way it works now that's great! I still think it's a very original idea to add onto this area, but it feels a little too bare bones to be out yet.
Adding onto this post:
I'm no archer so I can't actually say I have experience in the real techniques used, but here are some things I want to point out about Wii sport resort's archery, which I think is a really well made example of a simple archery mini game;
★ You actually have to aim yourself and there is a time limit before your character loses concentration and has to relax their body and try again, this keeps the players attention on the game and applies pressure on them because a person will want to hit the arrow right with the least amount of tries possible, it's also realistic that someone can't keep their arm up and the arch tense for 3 hours, and that down time allows for the player to take some time to actually analyse the setting and a possible strategy for the best aim.
★ there is a wind system, it's not the first time they apply this to a game, with golf also having this, it's great because it makes the game even more challenging since you have to keep in mind your timing and also adjust your aiming to go with the wind, you might be able to aim straight to the target but the wind can always change your arrows course and fuck up your strategy.
★ THE POINT SYSTEM, in this case it actually MATTERS where your arrow lands thanks to your technique, the whole purpose of archery is to hit the target in the desired spot, in this case the centre of the circle. Why would a person actually care about improving their technique, skills and ability to analyse the variables if no matter the spot it lands on you get the same amount of points? The point system also further adds onto the pressure and release feeling of the challenge.
This "pressure and release" type of situation that comes from challenge in games makes them more memorable, enjoyable and fun, because it stimulates the mind and entices you to try again and do better.

super simple low-effort ao3 summary methods that are 1000% better and 1000% less annoying than just saying you suck at summaries:
copypaste the first few lines of the fic. u already wrote ‘em. let ‘em be their own damn hook
if ur feeling fancy & don’t mind showing ur hand a bit, copypaste the first few lines of the fic that u feel are esp. Important or Interesting - the ones where u first start getting into the real meat of things
state the main tropes! theyre probably already in ur tags - just say them again - maybe as a full sentence if ur feelin fancy. or with a joke if ur feelin Extra fancy
ask a question. pose a hypothetical. eg what happens if u take [character] and put them in [situation]?
make an equation. [character] + [thing] = [outcome]
just write like a one-sentence summary of what the fuck is going down. just one (1) sentence. doesnt matter if it doesn’t cover every important aspect. or if it sounds bland. any summary sentence is gonna be miles better than “idk i suck at summaries”
just…explain the fic like u would to a friend? it doesnt have to be a polished back of the book blurb. it can just be “[pairing] coffee shop au, but like, still with murder, and also i made everyone trans. enjoy”
just stick a meme in there
honestly who cares
just put literally anything but a self deprecating comment in there & ur golden

This guy raised an abandoned moose calf with his Horses, and believe it or not, he has trained it for lumber removal and other hauling tasks. Given the 2,000 pounds of robust muscle, and the splayed, grippy hooves, he claims it is the best work animal he has. He says the secret to keeping the moose around is a sweet salt lick, although, during the rut he disappears for a couple of weeks, but always comes home…. Impressive !! MINNESOTA CLYDESDALE

Enough of the trope where memory loss undoes the damage or the corruption or whatever. More content where removing memories just removes the context.
The tragedy of needing to grieve and not knowing what or who you lost or why. The angst of having trauma and being denied the awareness that it's trauma. The suspense of being different somehow and left to wonder how and when. The tension of knowing that something is off and you can't find where it hurts. The Adventure Zone gets it. Kingdom Hearts gets it.
There is an aching inside you and you don't know how it got there.
