Once I realized a lot of the media companies are owned by a few larger companies, seeing the same thing cross-posted on so many socials made sense. A celeb can say something to say, Elle Magazine, and then itā€™ll be posted word for word in several other online sites because theyā€™re all owned by the same parent company. Then you get the sites that will summarize/repackage for their own clicks.
So it feels like a celeb is on a nationwide speaking tour when really, they gave one interview.
It also helps that you only notice this if youā€™re really online.
yup. and considering every celeb gossip site is competing with others in a race for clicks and engagement, media literacy becomes paramount.

The way some of yall mischaracterize Ratio as being stoic in chill when in reality he is 24/7 resisting the urge to rip everyone around him a new one is crazy to me like. He cares so much, so much. Itā€™s unhealthy, he loses the idgaf war every time because Ratio is the least nonchalant person ever like
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was this close to breaking character and throttling Sunday like you cannot tell me he wasnā€™t planning a murder in this scene. Ratio straight up calls Sunday a crazy bitch but everyone brushed it aside šŸ˜
Honestly his entire conversation with Screwllum is just him tweaking, watch it on YouTube the VAs performance is amazing, you can here just how much He Cares
Tumblr media
Genuinely, Aventurine is way better at concealing his true feelings that Ratio. Ratio may be acting for the sake of the plan but the way he truly feels about anything heā€™s doing always seeps through, itā€™s why he apologizes to Aventurine in 2.0 in their staged argument scene. Itā€™s why he is as mean to Sunday as he can be. Itā€™s why him pretending that he ā€œhatesā€ Aventurine makes him act so silly. Ratio canā€™t fully commit to the bit, he canā€™t force himself to not care or to be someone he isnā€™t, because fundamentally Ratio CARES and that is something he is incapable of hiding, alabaster bust or not.
The problem is that him expressing his care is often done in a rude and/or blunt manner which people tend to interpret as stoicism or apathy when itā€™s anything but. Ratioā€™s vial that he gives to Aventurine is short, sweet and gets straight to the point, because thatā€™s the easiest way for Ratio to express his emotions, even if itā€™s often detrimental for him and anyone else around him. However Aventurine understands him quite well, and knows that although brief, Ratio telling him to ā€œstay alive, survive this and keep on livingā€ is how he truly feels towards Aventurine, and thatā€™s enough to keep him going.
Underneath Ratios carefully crafted marble facade is a man who cares so much and is so bad at expressing it and I wish the community in general, especially Aventio shippers would acknowledge that more. Ratios true moments of sincerity are brief, but they are anything but stoic. Let the man be soft, itā€™s in character.

real footage of me watching everyone in the AAA fandom use 'older woman' and/or 'older witch' to describe Agatha during her interactions with Rio in canon universe Agathario fics like Rio isn't literal Death and as old as the universe itself while Agatha is a mere 352 years compared to her and hence younger than her (thus not being the 'older woman' between the two of them):

The fact that people are now claiming that Dick Grayson so much as frowning, or having a heated (yet completely understandable and justifiable) outburst, is out of character, is proof that TTBR's run has contributed to deteriorating Dick's character in fanon, at least in part, to a one-dimensional "perfect" do-gooder.

iā€™ve been loving watching critical role recently if for no other reason than because i get to watch a decent portion of viewers actively falling for cult tactics lmao
a forbes article describes cult tactics as when cult leaders ā€œcensor dissenting viewpoints, promote a distorted narrative and use relentless repetition and peer pressureā€
ludinus needing to monologue at everyone he meets. cherry picking what information to let people know (ie the orb). showing popular world leaders (gods?) at their absolute worst as a means to win over the vulnerable. creating dissent between cult prospects and the people who theyā€™re close to outside the cult. doesnā€™t take no for an answer. repeating his points over and over, in whatever context he thinks will be most persuasive. targeting people whoā€™ve lost everything. convincing people that theyā€™re special
matt is a genius.

What are people even saying fiddleford did?? šŸ˜ like what did he ever do wrong I canā€™t think of a single thing. maybe itā€™s bc I didnā€™t read the book yet
I think what is primarily being discussed in his case is a) he left his wife and b) he started a cult to erase peopleā€™s memories, generally nonconsentually.
Now we donā€™t actually know all that much about fiddlefords relationship with his wife, there are things that suggest he maybe wasnā€™t prioritising his family when he was with Ford (I.e. the Christmas presents) but I think itā€™s unfair to write off someoneā€™s headcanon or theory as ā€œwrongā€ when thereā€™s no definite answer.
The cult is probably definitely a bad.
BUT! Whatā€™s so revolutionary about Gravity Falls is that it has well written characters that are complex and with flaws. I think just about every main character does something bad or selfish at one point or another but itā€™s also always perfectly justifiable to the character too. There is always personal reason for their actions so nothing is technically black and white ā€œbadā€.
Iā€™m not pointing fingers but I reckon some people who maybe arenā€™t so familiar with fandom spaces or consuming media in a more critical way seem to have a sort of mindset which means that in order for you to like a character they have to be entirely good (or bad - but if theyā€™re bad you have to admit theyā€™re bad and thatā€™s why you like them). And of course people could also take the personal justification and turn it into actual justification.
A lot of the conflict in the show is morally ambiguous and the characters motives are generally easy to understand and even empathise with. Most people that genuinely enjoy the characters - or at least, speaking for myself - donā€™t excuse their flaws but enjoy the complexities of them!
All that to say, Fiddleford is literally me you guys <3

I mean trout did kill someone, I think it's very reasonable for people to consider that unredeemable regardless of whatever she's going through
I'm tired.
I didn't say it wasn't absolutely okay to hate her and want her to die. Nor did I say she was innocent or not responsible for her actions. It's extremely reasonable to hate her.
I don't even disagree that Trout should die, I'm just asking folk to read the room maybe.

Your idea of playing with your dollies is a father sexually abusing his son. And you romanticize it. And before you argue ā€œYeah but thereā€™s dark content in media that romanticizes it!ā€ Yes, they exist but it does not mean itā€™s depicted in a positive light. Itā€™s portrayed as scary and traumatizing to the character in question. And while theyā€™re not an actual person, it hits home to victims. There is nothing okay with going ā€œtee hee rape!ā€
Yep, it sure is! And I sure do :)
"that does not mean it's depicted in a positive light" I'm sorry, did you think that the cannibalism in Hannibal was just ketchup, too, or something? Dark media constantly romanticizes this sort of stuff. The primary relationship in Hannibal is scary and traumatizing, yes, but also romantic. The good ending is that the two toxic lovers eat people together.
Black Butler has two cousins in a romantic relationship, and their engagement is taken very seriously by them both and is in fact a core component of their characters. It's an incestuous relationship played completely straight and taken seriously by the writer and is definitely not scary or traumatizing.
Invincible has a relationship between an immortal man and a girl who is 20 at the most (literally a part of "Teen Team," I doubt she's older than that), and not only is it shown to be healthy, but her death devastates this man, even having lost so many others in his long, long life.
In Futurama, one of the main characters time traveled and fucked (and impregnated) his grandmother. Not only is this not shown to be scary or traumatizing, it's a reoccuring joke, referenced multiple times, and it is plot-important so you can't even explain the underlying plot of the show without mentioning it.
The Coffin of Andy and LeyLey is a horror game, and the good ending is the brother and sister characters fucking each other. Incest is literally good for them.
So, yes, media depicts these topics in a positive light frequently. Do you know why? Because no one cares.
This is all adult content made for adult consumers, and if you need everything you read or watch to tell you that rape and incest are bad, then you are the problem.
Do you know what does hit home to victims? My writing. My best friend is someone I met through my writing. She told me that as someone who had been abused and groomed, my stories where the underage character and the adult get a happy ending make her cry. Why? Because in fiction, I have the power to make this story have a happy ending.
In my fantasy world, the kind adult isn't secretly a predator. There is no power imbalance. The kid can be emotionally mature enough to handle this relationship. The adult can actually be safe and not just a creep. The relationship can last a long time and be safe and happy for the both ā€” because it's not real.
It gives my friend (and victims like her) great comfort to indulge a bit, and imagine that their story could have ended happily, too. Obviously, it couldn't have in reality ā€” that's why my friend is reading about it instead of running back to her abuser.
Stop trying to police fantasy. You are hurting people ā€” harmless thoughts are not.

Feeling unsafe is not the same as being unsafe and people are unable to distinguish between the two - you always have a right to be safe, but you do not necessarily have the right to always feel safe. This is an underlying theme in a lot of issues, like judging others' kinks, queerness, race, media analysis, and more; what the real heart of the problem is is unfamiliarity, things that people do not know and thus shrink away from in fear or disgust or discomfort. It can be a basic instinct to approach change and unfamiliarity with caution, but it needs to be an intentional act to challenge that fear/world view. It is something that we owe to the people around us, and that we owe to ourselves.

can i just say. and this is probably a niche hill to die on. that i am so gobsmacked every time someone vaguely hints at the idea that jotaro doesn't care meaningfully for the other crusaders, usually particularly kakyoin and joseph, when those two actually tend to be the ones he reacts to being hurt the hardest
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like he cares for his loved ones!!!! that literally plays into his character motives in every single part he shows up in!!! stop lying to me!!!!!!!
#me.txt#jjba#i'm going to ramble in tags actually. excuse me#ok. rereading sdc and so confused at the general perception of jotaro and his friends/family. he's not NEARLY as flat or as dickish#i understand that the anime (particularly the dub) tends to slander him but even then he still clearly cares for them! i'm confused#i also understand that a lot of people dig against jotaro and kakyoin as a dynamic because 'they're popular' and that generally disliking#popular things across media is a thing that i've seen consistently everywhere but the discredit to them simply as a DUO and not even as a#pairing is so..... odd..... like they're considered to be a duo that clicks for a reason. i enjoyed them even before i got into the fandom#every time i see someone say jotaro is overrated/dull i take a shot and assume they're an anime-only or only read the manga like once btw#joseph and jotaro also have a neat dynamic and they obviously both love and care for each other. like they're not going to go around loudly#or anything but literally the entirety of the lovers and the prelude to the dio fight IS jotaro being worked up over joseph getting hurt#equally i don't know if it translates to the anime as much but joseph is VERY complimentary when it comes to jotaro. like he sings his#praises so often and reminds everyone that he's his grandson so frequently (d'arby the gamer is a good example of this). either way it's so#peculiar....... there's not enough avdol and jotaro content btw (also in canon) because jotaro obviously looks up to him and avdol jokes#around with him on the occasion they interact after their intro which doesn't start very well. it's very cute#i do think an important thing to note about jotaro's character is how he acts AFTER his intro because he's so drastically different. early#jotaro and later jotaro aren't the same character and i do not mean this in a character development way. excluding the jail incident he's#completely different and probably shouldn't really be taken into account (especially considering the amount of slapstick in araki's intros)#and i think that's really???? what people center on for his character? Which sucks balls bad!#anyways. i could ramble more about this if asked i have so much to say but sigh. jotaro cares so much for his friends and family he's not a#flat fully cold asshole character regardless of whether you watch the anime or ova or read the manga. you just have poor media literacy#i wouldn't recommend watching solely the anime for his character though. the dub also changes a lot so it's... questionable#i love the anime and it's still important for him though. also adds neat stuff. i need to stop myself. i have many thoughts on the matter#jotaro kujo#joseph joestar#noriaki kakyoin#adding in case anyone sees: i am not saying that he is perfect about this. in fact he is very ass about it with jolyne and holly and that's#very important. he also is in fact an asshole sometimes. NOT as much as you guys are making him though!#please don't get me started on how much of a dick etc people make kakyoin to veer away from the 'woobified' characterizations of him#in fact i think that's bad if not worse because it CLAIMS to be in character. hes a prim asshole at times but not that angry or dishevelled

Keep thinking about an argument I had with a Stella defender who said that Via "doesn't give a fuck" that she's growing up in a dysfunctional household? I just... what? Was it not everyone else's assumption that she was just emotionally numb as a trauma response? Figured that was kind of obvious from the fact that she doesn't react much to what's going on around her, but the song she's listening to is literally singing "my world is burning down around me."
Tumblr media
What an odd way to try to exonerate Stella and brush off her traumatizing Via by abusing Stolas in front of her
