Is ladybug canonically Petrel's kitten/related to Petrel? I can't remember for the life of me if that was confirmed or not.

If so, follow up question, was there ever blame, even deep down, from Petrel for Egret because they lost their kitten/relative technically because Egret lived? Was Petrel resentful of Egret? Or did they not see things that way?

Petrel and ladybugs relationship is unconfirmed within the comic! They could be read as parent/child, or siblings, found family, etc. The only take away from their relationship that matters is that Ladybug was important to Petrel in some way.

We'll have to see! There is still a lot to explore regarding Petrel and Egret within the comic.

Would you ever consider drawing a new cover? Not that the current one is bad or anything, but I'm curious how you'd reflect the plot of the story now

yeah! it's on my list of things to do, but the list is. lengthy.

I do want to though, it probably won't reflect current events in the comic, as it would be a cover for the whole comic and i wouldnt want to spoil certain things to new readers, but it'll be different from what I drew before the comic started.

Apologies if this has been answered before, but I was doing another re-read of the comic and got curious about the whole thing with Tusk and Gull/the family believing she ate Ray— Why didn’t she deny it, like Trout even mentions to Sturgeon?

Obviously Tusk was going THROUGH it during that whole section, so it wouldn’t be surprising if she was just too mentally/emotionally overwhelmed to even think to do so. I’m just curious if that was the reason or if there was something more to it!

She didn't want the cult to stop Mollymawk from giving Ray the burial she wanted. If they knew what really happened, they would have tracked Molly down and taken Ray to the graveyard.

I think Tusk didn't know what she could say that wouldn't get Molly in trouble and get Ray taken away. She would have told Hake the truth of it but they were being watched. I imagine she was planning to tell him all that happened once they buried the moss ball at the beach for show and had a moment of privacy.

I also don't think she ever expected them to execute her or send her to the sea. Hake was the Queens brother and advisor, surely they wouldn't do anything too horrible to his wife. I think she was perfectly content to be exiled to the woods. She would have gone back to live at her willow tree, and she and Hake could have continued from there. She would have told him where Ray really was, maybe Hake would have even left the cult to stay with her, maybe he'd stay in the cult but use his rank to continue getting food for her. Or maybe their relationship would end all together, who knows.

She didn't think doing this would result in her death/island banishment, and once Trout made the announcement and she was being forced into the ocean, I don't think she thought there was a way out, even with a confession. And if she was going to die, she surely wasn't going to let them take Ray as a final insult. Then it would have all been for nothing.

If Sturgeon drowned Egret or wasn’t forced to kill Ladybug, would she still have met Petrel?

I guess it seems a bit curious, I never anticipated that kind of perspective that thresher figured “someone still has to die” , even if it’s not the one he wanted to die.

Once Ladybug is dead, he also states that Egrets meals will come from whatever Ladybug would have eaten. Restoring his false notion of balance on the island.

I think it's more of a punishment to sturgeon than anything else. From threshers perspective, I don't think he really cares who specifically dies, but he told sturgeon to do this and she disobeyed. He chose her as his heir because he believed she did it without hesitating. He thought she understood what was at stake, and her secretly keeping Egret alive proved to him that she did not.

I think he hoped that this would make her realize, that no, not everyone can be saved. (From his perspective, at least.)

i miss guest asks cause of this stupid question, but english is not my first language, is kelp apologizing to sturgeon for something on page 924, or is it more of "i'm sad that you haven't told me"?

my intention was more "i'm sad that you hadn't told me" than other options, but I think it can be read multiple ways.

Kelp would have liked to know her son was alive, and she wishes Sturgeon had told her sooner. But I also think it can be read as her being sad that Sturgeon had to keep this secret alone for as long as she has.

also fun fact, the reason i drew tansy as a cowboy (cowcat??) is because i read the comic w a friend and when i voiced tansy i gave her a southern accent for some reason and it just stuck lmao

I just wanted to say as someone who's been a guest commenter on CF (although someday I'll probably change that and finally make an account) I'm really glad that you made the choice to disable guest comments for the sake of your mental health. I would like to hope the other guest commenters with thoughtful and insightful observations feel much the same way, and I hope you don't feel like prioritizing your mental health means disappointing your readers (I think we would prefer less stress on you even if it means we go back to being mostly silent readers). You don't have to post this or anything, I just wanted to be one person to say thank you for prioritizing yourself. Hope you're doing alright Aru!

I think accounts are very handy on CF for readers. You can bookmark the stories you read, and your spot will always be saved if you miss multiple updates! There is no downside to making an account!

I do feel a tad guilty for turning them off, some folk were real excited by them coming back, I wish I had the energy to keep them.

But it's for the best they are off, at least for WLB.

Most people do want discussion on their work, of course. I love seeing folk discuss pages and characters, long threads of civil discussions and character analysis essays are my favorite things to wake up to.

Fights are absolutely not rare. I see every comment that is left on my work. They DO result in death threats, name calling, and harassment. You do not see these because I (and other webcomic creators) tend to delete them and block the people who start them.

I myself get called names when this happens. It is unwinnable no matter what I do honestly.

No creator wants to see that. No creator wants to see someone get harassed as a result of disagreements over their work or characters. No want wants to see someone with an actually harmful viewpoint come in and derail everything you are saying with your work. It's tiring.

I do love the discussions. I have so many lovely folk who are very invested by my work and I couldn't be more thrilled to read what they write and the thoughts they share to each other.

But some people are unkind. I am glad you haven't seen these comments, it means my moderation has been effective.

Genuine question, why are chapters uploaded at different times? Sometimes it's in the morning, sometimes it's late at night and sometimes it's not uploaded at all.

No judgement! This is an absolutely amazing comic, and it's so well written and emotional.

it's whenever i'm online and remember, I don't schedule them.

I also think it's good to do different times of day for time zone purpose, so new folk can find the comic.
