Another day, another complaint that I'm harsh because someone goes into my favorite character's tag to repeat a popular but easily disprovable slander, and, in response, I take the time to disprove that particular slander.

Maybe I am harsh, or maybe I'm simply tired of people taking scenes out of context in order to undermine the basic principles of a show that's been successfully concluded for five years; so long that the truth of it should not be in doubt.

So let me be even more harsh. Let's talk about Lies of Omission (5x09).

Stiles is a liar. It is a running gag through every single season that Stiles lies when it suits him. He lies to Scott, he lies to his father, he lies to everyone.

Stiles threatens or actually indulges in violence against people who might endanger his father, repeatedly, including his best friend.

Stiles was emotionally unstable at the beginning of Season 5 to the point that he was engaging in illegal activities that could get him in serious trouble, hurting himself, and endangering other people.

It wasn't just Scott who didn't believe him about Theo: Malia, Liam, Kira, Lydia and the Sheriff didn't believe him about Theo in the first place.

Theo wasn't a stranger; by the time he deceived Scott about Donovan, Theo had helped save the life of every member of the pack. (I thought that fandom believes that saving lives was supposed to endanger trust; that's what fandom says about Derek).

Stiles had literally volunteered to work with Theo in front of Scott.

Stiles had plenty of time to present his side of the story, both in Lies of Omission and the four episodes leading up to it.

Given that all these things are true -- and they are -- Scott shouldn't have believed Stiles.

So, playing by fandom's own rules, the character who bears the responsibility for Scott not believing Stiles is Stiles, who fandom says is so incredibly smart and always right and is the best friend in the whole world, but either a) literally didn't see Theo's plan coming, b) saw it coming but for some reason did nothing to stop it, or c) felt the best course of action, instead of trusting his best friend, was deceiving Scott.

Let me be clear: I don't believe the above paragraph. I don't hold it against Stiles that he didn't react perfectly in a high-pressure situation. Stiles was manipulated by the villains, suffering from the aftereffects of repeated trauma, and burdened with an unfair self-image (in his case put there by his ill mother and a Japanese fox demon). BUT SO WAS SCOTT. Scott was manipulated by the villains, suffering from the aftereffects of trauma, and burdened with an unfair self-image (in his case, being saddled with the responsibility of being the Protector of Beacon Hills by almost every single person he cared about, which includes saving lives.)

So, in conclusion, let me be most harsh. Nattering on about the idea, five years after the show was over, that "Stiles is always right" and "Scott is a bad friend because he didn't believe Stiles" is racist bullshit, because it has nothing to do with what happened on the screen in a scene which was the result of Stiles's long-time behavior AND villain manipulation, but instead it has everything to do with the idea that Stiles as a white male character should be the primary frame of reference for a show that wasn't about him.

Alligator Body Language and You, or: How To Know When An Alligator On Social Media is Being Stressed for Views

Alligators are wild animals. Despite the idiotic claims of animal abusers like Jay Brewer, they cannot be domesticated, which means they are always going to react on the same natural instincts they've had for millions of years. Habituated, yes. Tamed, yes. Trained, definitely. Crocodilians can form bonds with people- they're social and quite intelligent. They can solve problems, use tools, and they're actually quite playful. Alligators are also really good at communicating how they're feeling, but to somebody who doesn't spend much time around them, their body language can be a bit mystifying. And it doesn't help when social media influencers are saying shit like this:

That is not what a happy gator looks like.

That's a terrified, furious gator who isn't attacking because the ogre handling her has her in a chokehold. She's doing everything she can to express her displeasure, and he's lying about it because he knows his audience doesn't even know how to think critically about what he's doing. He knows that because his audience doesn't know anything about these animals, he can get away with it. This I think is why I hate him so much- he deliberately miseducates his audience. He knows what he's doing is factually inaccurate, he just doesn't care because attention means more to him than anything else in the world.

Let's change that! Here are two really important lessons for understanding alligator body language on social media.

Lesson 1: Alligators Don't Smile (in fact, most animals don't)

So what's going on in this video? Jay Brewer is aggressively choking his white alligator Coconut while scrubbing algae off of her with a toothbrush. And make no mistake, he is digging into the creature's throat while she is visibly distressed. He claims she's happy- but she's not. He is willfully misrepresenting what this animal is feeling. That's a problem, because people... well, we actually kind of suck at reading other species' body language. The reason for this is that we tend to overlay our own responses on their physical cues, and that's a problem. For example, let's look at an animal with a really similar face to ours, the chimpanzee. Check out Ama's toothy grin!

Wait, no. That's not a happy smile. That's a threat display. When a chimpanzee "smiles," it's either terrified and doing a fear grimace, or it's showing you its teeth because it intends on using them in your face.

How about a dog? Look at my smiling, happy puppy!

Oh wait no, this is a picture of Ryder when he was super overwhelmed by noise and people during a holiday party. He'd hopped up in my sister's lap to get away from stuff that was happening on the floor and was panting quite heavily. See the tension in the corners of his mouth and his eyes? A lot of the time when a dog "smiles," the smile isn't happy. It's stress! Why Animals Do The Thing has a nice writeup about that, but the point is, our body language is not the same as other species. And for reptiles, body language is wildly different.

For instance, look at these two alligators. Pretty cute, right? Look at 'em, they're posing for a Christmas card or something! How do you think they're feeling?

Well, I'll tell you how the normal one is feeling. He's annoyed! Why is he annoyed? Because the albino just rolled up, pushed another gator off the platform, and is trying to push this guy, too. I know this because I actually saw it happen. It was pretty funny, not gonna lie. He's not gaping all the way, but he was hissing- you can actually see him getting annoyed in the sequence I took right before this shot. Look at him in this first shot here- he's just relaxing, and you can see he isn't gaping even a little bit.

By the end, he's expressing displeasure, but not enough to actually do anything about it. He's annoyed, but he's comfy and that's where one of the best basking areas is, so he'll put up with it.

Reptiles open their mouths wide for a lot of reasons, but never because they are actively enjoying a sensation. Unless they're eating. No reptile smiles- they can't. They don't even have moveable lips. If a reptile is gaping, it's doing so because:

It is doing a threat display.

It is making certain vocalizations, all of which are threats. Alligators are one of the rare reptiles that do regularly vocalize, but most of their calls aren't made with a wide open mouth.

It is about to bite something delicious or somebody stupid. Check out this video- virtually all of the gaping here is anticipatory because these trained gators know darn well that the bowl is full of delicious snacks. (I have some issues with Florida's Wildest, but the man knows how to train a gator AND he is honest about explaining what they're doing and why, and all of his animals are healthy and well-cared for, and he doesn't put the public or his staff at risk- just himself.)

It's too hot and it has opened its mouth to vent some of that heat and thermoregulate. This is the main reason why alligators will often have their mouths part of the way open, but sometimes they'll open all the way for thermoregulation. This is what a thermoregulatory gape looks like- usually it's not all the way open, kinda more like < rather than V, but you can't say that 100% of the time. Additionally, a thermoregulatory gape... typically happens when it's hot out. If they're inside, maybe they've been under their basking light for too long. Heat's the dominant factor, is what I'm getting at.

There is another reason that a captive crocodilian might be gaping, and that's because it's doing so on command. Some places have their gators trained to gape on cue, like St. Augustine Alligator Farm and other good zoos. They have the animals do this in presentations that are genuinely educational. They ask the animals to open their mouths so that they can show off their teeth and demonstrate how their tongues seal off the back of their mouth. They'll also do it as part of routine healthcare, because looking at their teeth is important.

In this case, the animals aren't gaping because they're stressed, they're gaping because they know they're gonna get a piece of chicken or fish if they do it. And what's more, they're doing it on cue. They have a specific command or signal that tells them to open wide. It's not an instinctive response to a situation. It's trained. If the animal provides the behavior after a cue, the situation is much less likely to be negatively impactful.

It's also important to remember that there's a difference between a partially open mouth and a gape! As discussed above, alligators will often have their mouths a little bit open just to maintain temperature homeostasis. It helps them stay comfy, temperature-wise. These guys are all doing thermoregulatory open-mouthed behavior- that slight open and relaxed body posture is a dead giveaway. (That and it's the hottest spot in the enclosure.)

Lesson 2: A Happy Gator Is A Chill Gator

So if alligators don't smile or have facial expressions other than the :V that typically signifies distress, how else can you tell how they're feeling? One way is stillness. See, alligators subscribe to the philosophy of if it sucks... hit da bricks.

Basically, if they hate it, they'll leave. Unless, y'know, somebody has their meaty claws digging into their throat or is otherwise restraining them. (Restraint isn't always bad, btw. Sometimes the animal is going through a medical thing or needs to be restrained for their safety- which a responsible educator will explain.)

Let's look at a very similar scenario, in which a captive alligator is getting his back scrubbed.

As you can see, it's quite different. First, he's not being restrained at all. Second, look at how relaxed he is! He's just chilling there vibing! He could simply get up and leave if he wanted to, because he's not being held. Towards the end of the video, as he lifts his head, you can see that his respiratory rate is very even as his throat flutters a bit. I'm not sure what this facility is, so I can't comment on care/general ethics, but like. In this specific case, this is an alligator enjoying being scrubbed! And you can tell because he's not doing anything. A happy gator is content to be doing what they're doing.

Why Should I Listen To You?

Now, you should ask yourself, why should you listen to me? Why should you trust me, who does not own an alligator, versus Jay Brewer, who owns several?

Well, first off, there's no profit for me in telling you that what you're seeing on social media is in fact not what you're being told you're seeing. I'm not getting paid to do this. That's the thing with people who make social media content. The big names aren't doing it just for fun. They're doing it for money. Whether that's profit through partnerships or sponsorships, or getting more people to visit their facilities, or ad revenue, you can't ignore the factor of money. And this is NOT a bad thing, because it allows educators to do what they're passionate about! People deserve to be paid for the work that they do!

But the problem starts when you chase the algorithm instead of actually educating. A "smiling" alligator gets the views, and if people don't know enough to know better, it keeps getting the views. People love unconventional animal stories and they want those animals to be happy- but the inability to even know where to start with critically evaluating these posts really hinders the ability to spread real information. Like, this post will probably get a couple hundred notes, but that video of Coconut being scrubbed had almost 400,000 likes when I took that screenshot. Think about how many eyeballs that's reached by now. What I'm saying here is that it's just... really important to think critically about who you're getting your information from. What do dissenters say in the comments? What do other professionals say? You won't find a single herpetologist that has anything good to say about Prehistoric Pets, I can tell you that right now.

STATS is short for “state akin to sleep,” a phrase used by neville goddard several times.

for example, one of neville's most popular experiments utilizing SATS is called the "ladder experiment". this experiement demonstrates how useful sats is.

what was the experiment?

1. During one of his lectures, Neville instructed his students to visualize themselves climbing a ladder vividly. He asked them to repeatedly imagine this scenario in detail each night before going to bed. They were to feel themselves climbing the ladder, using all their senses to make it as real as possible.

2. on top of this, Neville told them to write down or say affirmations throughout the day such as, "I will not climb a ladder." This was meant to consciously contradict their nightly visualizations, creating a sense of disbelief in the process. The challenge was to see whether their repeated visualization of the ladder would override the conscious denial of the event.

3. Many of the participants reported that within a few days, despite their daily affirmation of "I will not climb a ladder," they ended up encountering situations in which they physically climbed a ladder. The experiment was intended to show that the subconscious mind, which was being impressed by the vivid visualization during the SATS state, was far more powerful than their conscious thoughts or affirmations.

essentially, Neville wanted to show that imagination, particularly when focused in the relaxed state akin to sleep, could create real-life outcomes, aka — attract your desires instantly.

so . . . how do i use SATS?

1. relax. sit or lie down, and relax your mind and body. this method does not need to be used at night. many people have used it during the day and have gone to sleep for only a few moments before waking up with their desire. This is basically just a form of meditation. A similar mental state occurs naturally in the morning right after awakening, and in the evening before bed, hence why some may prefer to do this method at night despite it not being mandatory.

2. embody the feeling. now while in this state, visualize your goal. 3. you don't need to take action. you don't necessarily need to do anything when manifesting. this doesn't just apply for SATS, but any other form of manifestation. you don't need to take action or do anything further to get your desires if you don't feel like it. remember; they're already yours. they can fall into your hands out of the blue. you don't need to put in effort.

no, it does not. affirmations DO still work for LOA. you CAN achieve anything through affirmations, it was never stated that you couldn't or that SATS is the only way. this only states that according to neville goddards experiement, sats appears to be a more powerful method than affirmations and that's how he viewed it. more powerful doesn't equate to the other method being completely incorrect or impossible. i also personally find this method to work a lot quicker as well.. similar to the void state.

Hey everyone! I’ve been studying astrology for many years now and decided I wanted to share some of my findings on here. Things I say might not resonate with you as everyone’s birth chart is very different and impacts them in different ways. These are just some observations I’ve made over the years dealing with different placements. Hope you enjoy! I apologize if I was harsh on some of them.

♡ Mercury dominants are very expressive with their facial features. When talking to them you can usually see their emotions displayed on their faces. It’s very charming, however, you’ll either feel loved or hated by them. They also can have very pointy features that stand out, this can possibly give them a wiser look.

♡ Scorpio risings have beautiful eyes. It’s almost as if they can see right through you. Their eyes are full of mystery and allure.

♡ Libra risings can sometimes be ‘fake nice.’ I don’t think they mean any harm, I just believe they tend to put up a front around certain people they don’t like and act friendly. Then the next moment they can shit talk them behind their back. This can also go for Libra suns as well.

♡ Mars in the 8th house people are very sensual, they can crave intimacy and sex. It can be very endearing; you’ll always feel a strong pull to them, even if it’s a negative gravitation.

♡ Libra/Scorpio placements always gravitate towards Aries/Taurus placements. Usually the Libra/Scorpio placement will notice the Aries/Taurus placement first and make their move. It’s as they say, opposites always attract.

♡ The most common moon sign I’ve seen in people so far has been Scorpio. It could possibly be because I have a large amount of scorpion energy in my chart and therefore I attract those people. Scorpio moons are very intelligent, you always feel as though they know something you don’t. They seem to have something darker lie within them that doesn’t reach the surface, however you can sense it just by observing them. They can sometimes have a mean streak. However, even with that inner darkness, Scorpio moons are some of the best people to know, they will be there for you in times of need.

♡ People who have multiple cancer placements in their charts can be an emotional train wreck. Sorry guys, maybe check out a therapist instead of forming attachments to unreliable things/people.

♡ Pisces moons are very emotional and sensitive. They can be very secretive with personal matters, more so than you would expect. They may have some deep turmoil within them that is difficult to process, in turn they may develop certain hobbies or outlets that help them cope.

♡ Sagittarius Mercury’s are some of the funniest people you will ever meet. Their humor and passion is impeccable and a joy to be around. They may have high energy levels and love to make people laugh. However, these people can be very chaotic and might put some people off.

🫐 If you have a moon darakaraka, only in this placement you can marry a person with the same sign as yours.

🫐 Mars in the 2nd house may eat alot of meat, it's like they'll love meat and find it hard to be a Vegan or Vegetarian.

🫐 Also Mars in the 2nd house swears or curses a lot doesn't matter what sign. They can end up creating new cuss words too lol.

🫐 Rahu 10th house is a good placement however the natives with this placement struggle to choose a career for themselves.

🫐 Rahu in the 9th house makes you doubt your morals. Whether your a good person  or  not.

🫐 Sun-Mercury conjunction in the 7th house can give a spouse you has solutions to mostly all of your problems. Even if their not too educated they may still have solutions to your problems.

🫐 Sun Nakshatra people have so much perseverance like no matter what they go through they always stand tall facing their problems all by themselves.

🫐 Like 12th house reminds people of spiritual, paranormal, esoteric, escapism but what people forget is this house represents creativity as well.

🫐 12th house lord in the 9th house could mean your creative and would want to pursue a career in something artistic.

🫐 Venus in Pisces in any nakshatra gives you such ethereal dreamy looking face these people never age.

☆ scorpio in the 7th house- usually get cheated on by their partners. Go through Toxic/ narcissistic partners at some point in their lives. 3rd party situations. Partners lying and deceiving you.

☆ scorpio mars- usually center of attention (attention grabber not seeker). Females with this placement tend to attract jealously from their so called friends or just other people in general. Men tends to sexualize them alot, May have spread rumors about them at some point.

Men with this placement, if underdeveloped, tends to be toxic af. The need to control everyone and everything around them is just awful. Fuck around a lot. Sleeping with different different people.

If developed, good achievers. Very strategic mindset. Usually get what they want in life. Bulletproof mindset. Very good at talking to people but still maintaining boundaries. Loyal.

Okay, I need to rant. Fuck AI. And I mean seriously. FUCK. A.I. I know I’m probably preaching to the choir here, but more people need to be talking about this, and there’s no point in me saying that if I’m not willing to talk about it too. AI has done nothing but ruin our communities and defile the art that millions of hands have spent millions of hours creating. Fanfiction is a work of passion. Drawing is a work of passion. Voice acting IS A WORK OF PASSION. AI has no passion. It takes the soul out of the things we love and cherish. It steals what we as a collective community have lovingly crafted, and it shatters it to a thousand pieces, spits on it, curses its family, and throws it in a flaming dumpster to be eaten by rats. It is despicable and disgusting.

I won't lie, or pretend I’m a perfect saint. I myself was a user of Character AI until somewhat recently. And as ashamed as I am to admit that, I feel it’s necessary to own up to my own faults. But after seeing the damage it causes, I can’t in good conscience even consider touching that site. Many of us write because it is our passion. Many of us because it is our job. And many of us because it is our *friend*. AI steals the writing of your favorite creators WITHOUT PERMISSION and mashes it together like Frankenstein’s fucked up monster to create storylines that aren’t even fucking coherent. Not only that, but Character AI uses whatever you respond to it with to teach itself as well, which means that the company has access to whatever you chat about, and free reign to do whatever they want with it. They also make absurd amounts of money from it, which in comparison, fanfiction writers, who spend countless hours writing stories for our favorite characters, more often than not charge nothing. And the ones who do charge, tend to have reasonable, if not highly lenient prices for their labor.

Which leads me into another side rant. SUPPORT WRITERS THAT YOU LIKE. It’s really not that hard, it takes two fucking seconds of your time and it makes someone's day. Reblog. Share with your friends. Like. Comment. Just let the writer know that you saw it, and that you liked it. The amount of fanfic writers I have seen get completely discouraged from writing because of lack of engagement is astounding. I’ve seen several posts on Tumblr or Twitter or Bluesky talking about creators that were incredibly popular but never knew it due to lack of engagement is appalling. If you can rant about your love for their work on Discord, you can rant about your love for their work in the comments. Just fucking copy paste it. Tell them how much you love it. Show them support. Especially the ones that don’t charge. Because for those of us that don’t, our only payment, is your feedback. Even constructive criticism is greatly appreciated by damn near every writer I can think of. Because even that shows that you read it, absorbed it, and thought about it enough to have something to actually say about it.

The same thing goes for artists and voice actors. You see a drawing or animation you enjoy? Comment. Like. Share. You see a character in an anime or a game and you love their voice? Go check out their voice actor, maybe they do some other cool stuff, and you might just discover your new favorite series or streamer. A perfect example is Alejandro Saab. I became a fan of his through his astounding performance in several series dear to me, and lo and behold, he’s also a streamer I enjoy. Same story with Aleks Le, or Ray Chase. Yuri Lowenthal, Lizzie Freeman, Landon Mcdonald, Zeno Robinson, the list goes on. But seriously, it’s not that much effort to just show a little love to the creators you enjoy. The people who breathe life into the series’ that we all hold dear. AI does not breathe that life. Using AI, and supporting those companies, will destroy those pillars of our community. And if that happens, the AI would crumble too, it would have no new information to use. SO really, what’s the benefit? I’ll tell you. There is none.

Stop using AI. All it does is bring harm and slowly kill our community. It’s disgusting, appalling, and downright fucking egregious.

Thinking about the way König shadows you while shopping.

To some, it’s a bit intimidating, seeing this massive man in a medical mask and featureless clothing follow you around. There’s been more than one occasion when you’ve been in a store and a concerned bystander will quietly ask you “do you know him?” Which then prompts the explanation of yeah, he’s just like that, don’t worry I’m not in any danger.

He likes to be helpful, and usually ends up carrying your bags and other things. Even if they don’t match his outfit by any means- that man will happily carry an armful of rainbow tote bags if that means helping you. He’s got those lanky arms, might as well use them as a clothing rack, right? It makes him feel good, knowing he can do something to make your trip a little easier. And it gives him another reason to stick to your side.

He likes to help pick out clothing for you, though it doesn’t tend to be the most fashion-forward. While he has an eye for aesthetics, he prioritises clothes based on comfort and function. You best believe he’s touching all the fabrics to select which one is the least offensive to the senses, advising quietly on which fabric feels the nicest against his skin. No matter how garish or tacky or out there the garment, as long as it brings joy, he could care less (he owns some of the most egregious knitted jumpers known to man, who is he to judge).

He’s a great changing room guard, stood like some kind of very smitten gargoyle, making sure the only people who come close to you while you’re changing are the employees who come to exchange garment sizes. And while he loves anything you wear, he’s a pragmatist about it, he won’t lie if he can tell you aren’t into whatever clothing you’ve picked out. He’ll be honest if a cut doesn’t flatter you or if the seams don’t lay right on your body shape- if you ask for his opinion, of course he’ll give it to you straight.

He hates having to talk to most people, simply because there’s too many variables involved that he never seems to get right, but at the checkout it’s a little bit easier. There’s more of a rhythm to it, a set of scripted responses he can follow. Often, if you’re in some other corner of the store and he’s somehow not looming over you, he’ll slide some little trinket across the counter to buy for you. Just a little treat, of course, to present to you later with a little giddy smile on his face.

And if he ends up also buying a few of the clothing items you liked but couldn’t justify the cost of and slipping them into your bags (that he was already carrying), well, that’s his business. He has plenty of money laying around since he doesn’t get out much. Might as well put it into something that matters to him.
