Drank a red bull in an attempt to hype myself up to finish my current drawing but then decided I didn't want to, so now I'm caffeinated at 5 am for no reason 😭

my sudden overwhelming desire to do lil 500x500 pixel arts for attacks on artfight bc i miss pixel art VS my fear that ppl will be disappointed to receive that when the vast majority of my previous attacks are fully shaded fullbodies w/ relatively nice backgrounds FIGHT

I swear, making entire different sets of ASCII/Unicode for text/lettering was a damn mistake.

This shit. Constantly. Gets. Past. Spam. Filters. =_=

#also heard this kinda ascii code shit trips up some tts systems #just use one standard set of codes that you can turn into diff fonts in HTML/CSS dammit all!#because a lot of systems reading the text doesn't RECOGNIZE wtf those codes /mean/#'a' should be recognized as a damn 'a' across the board - istg #not 'a' but it's a little /spicier/#(this rant is something i see gymrat!lo getting on abt OFTEN)#(this standard sucks ass - and iirc it's thanks to how people saw 'oh we're expanding the ascii table for emojis now?')#(and went 'we can make character sets... but FANCY')#(nevermind fucking breaking spam filtering systems and accessibility tools!)#(nevermind that you can ALREADY customize font type and size with a little bit of HTML tinkering)#(nevermind the style sheet your web page is going for or people who have their own local themes or font library)#(nevermind people who want to idk slap a dyslexia // vis-impaired friendly add-on to make the font more readable to THEM)#(HHHHHh- i have a lot of feelings about this)

eeeee im so happy bc i feel like with the karkat and nepeta i did ive finally found my style fully since i started doing my process a different way that feels right and learned i enjoy doing solid black shading and bright outlines that just *pop* and aeigout8qo4hg9y3h3ivhreuaegsidjh YIPPIE

#what i mean by doing my process a diff way is #i used to build EVERYTHING using shapes manually instead of freehanding it #until just recently #when i freehanded the sketch of nepeta and then finished that #i realised that 1.) thats more comfy for me to do and 2.) apparently thats jsut what most artists do #and then i learned i like the black shading and outlines because of that denji i drew #although his outline didnt pop as much and the other two #but anyways #I FEEL AMAZING ABOUT MY ART FOR ONCE #I FEEL LIKE IM ACTUALLY DOING A GOOD JOB OF DRAWING #aaaaa this is amazing #now that ive got my style down for the most part #i can finally draw the things ive wanted to but couldnt #because before i never knew how to build them #but now i just need to find a good way to freehand them #aaaaaa #and then once i build my skills enough in the (probably fairly distant) future maybe i can finally do commissions...

the inconsistency of my art style has been a massive insecurity of mine for as long as I can remember.. for years and years I've been beating myself up over my inability to stick to one technique or ~signature look~. it feels like I'm lacking identity as an artist when everything I draw looks like it was made by a different person. I hate it more than anything.

but recently, I've come to appreciate my ability to switch from style to style in order to achieve the vibe I'm looking for. from uber cartoony to anime to semi-realism, it's a good skill to have.

those insecurities of mine still exist, and I hate not having That One Style I always go back to at the end of the day, something that feels like me, but maybe I should stop calling it inconsistency and start calling it range.
