I saw "Spirited Away" in theaters yesterday, and there's a point early in the movie when Haku gives Chihiro some rice balls after she learns her parents are fully pigs now, and she starts crying while eating the rice ball. My reaction to this was: Chihiro is at the lowest point in her young life. She is completely alone for the first time, and she has no idea how she is going to fix this and get her parents back.

But the rest of the theater was laughing?? People were laughing at this moment and it confused me because I was empathizing with Chihiro. This happened a few more times, i.e. people found something funny and I didn't think it was funny at all. I also noticed this pattern when I saw M3GAN in theaters a few months ago.

My current theory as to why this keeps happening is:

😐 What embarrasses you most about your own writing?

I'm a little frighteningly confident in my own writing—not that I think it's perfect, because I can see all my weaknesses and actively try to work on them, but that I don't really get embarrassed by things I write? I write them because I want to see them exist, and I'm not particularly embarrassed by any of my desires.

I did laugh at myself the other day about how I am apparently incapable of keeping kink out of anything I write, so maybe that.

honestly hysterical sometimes to read responses to some of my poems bc so many of them are like, “you are so good at examining faith and talking about god :) what a good christian girl :)” and im like. no actually im an atheist and part of the reason i write poetry about religion and god is bc i have a fundamentally weird relationship with religion and god. i havent been to church in years. god to me is a little guy im rotating around like a chicken blorbo. stop accusing me of being a fundamentalist for talking about god.
