The thing is I think Viktor was pretty confident and graceful to begin with. When he meets Jayce he doesn't make himself small at all and he's the one leading him and holding him up. It's mostly after the timeskip, when his health has deteriorated sharply, and he got used to being in the shadow while Jayce is in the light, used to facing his own imminent mortality, that he appears so... diminished.

one thing i keep coming back to is the fight scene in the council room from s208 because it just tells us SO much about viktor. when he enters the room in his avatar he catwalks in. he moves with so much elegance and so much confidence. the way he pins jayce by the wrist and then slowly wraps his fingers around jayce’s hammer. the way he wraps his legs around jayce and cups his face and brushes his fingers over his lips. the way when he’s towering over jayce in the astral plane he calls him *his* partner for the first time.

we’re seeing who viktor is when he inhabits a body that he thinks is perfect

in the avatar of the glorious evolution, where viktor finally sees himself as powerful, as pure, as just like everybody else… he’s confident with jayce, even dominant, in a way he would never allow himself to be while he was alive in his original body.

and of course the kicker is that without his imperfections, without his entire self, he’s not viktor to jayce anymore. ‘my partner died in this room’

and it takes until the finale, until viktor can see himself through jayce’s eyes, for it to click that he could have been this way with jayce all along. that he has always been equal to jayce. that his confidence, his grace, his power - jayce saw it all along.

and i just found the end of the council room scene so devastating. the way that once viktor’s perfect evolved body is broken we immediately see him huddled and collapsed on the floor, making himself as small as possible

favorite character is probably edgeworth but maya is in second place by like a single point it’s a close race. and then franziska and pearl are tied for third by another single point cause so many characters in this game are so good. the von karma siblings and the fey siblings make me so insane for different reasons but they do both make me INSANE. and the parallels between them whew! i do love phoenix a whole lot he just tends to take a back seat cause every other character knocks it out of the park, but he’s a swell guy. larry’s animations are my favorite ever. fave case is farewell my turnabout by a LONG shot i love that thing so much. pearl and phoenix hanging out, engarde being a nasty little guy, adrien, the way that case plays with tension and gives the viewer information, miles being the one yelling at ziska to go to the hospital when she gets shot, maya calling mia cause she’s scared, phoenix underselling him and miles dramatic reunion cause he’s BUSY….it has it all. wonderful case. delightful.

gant is definitely my favorite villain for his presentation and presence alone, they do such a good job of making him feel untouchable and malicious and NASTY even at the very beginning when he’s still pretending to be nice. and i so often miss von karma because that guy was SUCH a good villain….despicable fellow and what a delight to play against!!!! and the way he haunts everything even after he’s gone…. just wonderful character work in there, horrible guy. i remember like JUMPING the first time i heard his scary ass objection voice line. kill that guy again. love himmmm

also my favorite track is jfa telling the truth. i can’t link it rn bc im hiding in the bathroom at work but every time that song started i just stopped and listened to it for like a minute. i love it

also one of my favorite parts of playing this game has been like, the same reason i really liked reading shakespeare last year in that like it’s just realy fun to see a classic of a genre and realize Why it’s a classic. these games are SO sharply written, the character work is great, the way it works with parallels and implications, the way it balances humor and tension and tragedy….its a classic for a reason!!!! this team knows exactly how to use the limited medium of a visual novel to its absolute fullest extent and that is so cool to see. i had the thought while i was watching the anime of like ok seeing these characters move and emote more in a fully animated thing is Novel and a little fun, but it actually does not give me any More information about their characters or relationships, because the writing in the original knew it was limited and communicated character perfectly within those limits. crazy stuff! cannot wait to go meet apollo and TRUCY and kay…..

Immediately I am reminded why HK is my favorite - it is SO much more character interaction focused than love. Dont get me wrong - i love the s1 boys a lot, but the show doesnt give them their moments to interact with eachother as much as HK does - everyone gets Their Moment to interact with the other characters, not just the ones the show is 'shipping' with them! and I love this season for it!
