once you finish Empires S1 i'd like to hear your thoughts about esmp1!gem. she's genuinely one of my favorite characters to analyse because she is so nuanced and interesting in so many ways anywhere you look at her. her twisted determination to achieve peace at ANY cost, her rigid thinking and neurodivergency, her relation with symbols like her tower or the end and the moon, or her genuine wish to be a good person and so many other things. there's so much that is impossible to grasp at first (<- <- me, lesbian who is really normal about her favorite gem)

She's right.

Essentially, Gem understands the role a wizard PLAYS in a story. She's never the cause of something, but she sure amplifies both the problems and the solutions. She's morally gray, she's playing both sides, but nobody ever challenges her on that because of course Gem's helping the heroes too -- they need artifacts! She's a plot device, a questgiver, a weapon. She's the voice of reason, the straight man in any comedy duo, yet makes the same questionable decisions as anyone. She's experimenting, she's out of her comfort zone, she's having the time of her life. Wizard Gem is, ultimately, a real wizard.

That's the short answer anyhow. Longer analysis, well, I'm so glad you asked. I can't talk about character without diving into the content creator metanarrative (feature not a bug) so let's get into the noodles! What about Wizard Gem makes her so fantastic?

Wizard Gem is a catalyst.

From the beginning, Gem is mixing up dynamics and forcing new inspiration by opposing what's static. The way the rest of the Wither Rose Alliance sort of? Molds? Around her. How Sausage and fWhip are beefing until the day she alliances with Pearl and suddenly the four are besties. How she adds moral nuance to the villain side, both by mixing relations with the hero side, and just by insisting the Wither Rose are seeking peace, really, they're trying their best! This stops things from being so cut and dry and basic. Instead of Xornoth's vain forces against the heroic bumbling fish people (with the plant and animal empires in between), there's all sorts of messiness and drama. And Gem's aware of this, of how she's changing things, and so the effect is amplified.

On a CC level, even her origins are experimental. Gem was originally planning a more naturey plant wizard, but since Shubble, Katherine, AND Pearl, were plant based (& arguably Joey too) she adapted into amethyst and rocks. And it turned out amazing! That foundation of experimenting made it easier to take larger risks both content and character wise. All the empires folk enjoyed the lore centric storytelling: only getting deeper into it through the season, but Gem especially paved the way for embracing rp and outfits and items and fun.

But back to C! As the Wither Rose alliance progresses, terrorizing the server included, Gem maintains her peace loving stance. Taking on the role as fWhip's (and later Sausage)'s PR managers is genuinely so important to me. She never really stops them from doing bad things, but she's always discouraging them and talking them down one or two degrees. Ultimately loyal to her alliance, she's also taking responsibility for the consequences. Helping out Jimmy behind the scenes to lessen the blow, both for him but also herself.

At her core, Wizard Gem wants peace.

For herself and friends at least. Unfortunately, the Crystal Cliffs aren't in a bubble, so she keeps having to save the world anyway. She dreads conflict at best and fears it at worst. Her concerns are her kingdom, her neighbors, whatever magic / building she's invested in right now, and maybe a light shenanigan here or there. She'll help fWhip get out of trouble because they really do love each other, he's always helping her out too in his own ways (ex: making her stuff,) and she'll protect the realm so the problems stay far away from their doorsteps. When things do eventually fall into her lap, she definitely deals with them. Just... not 100%. Enough that they stop breaking the peace for now.

Let's be honest, Wizard Gem is firmly in denial. She's down for burying the corruption and letting it claim whole towers of her base. Often she'll just accept whatever another player brings to her: buying Scott and Katherines plush, whatever weird scams Lizzie tries on her, etc. When Scott gives her the Elsa curse, she hangs out in the nether, takes Shrub’s dodgy Xornoth cure, and stubbornly "it's fine"-s her way through avoiding a real solution until fWhip drags her to Katherine. It's telling that her (short-lived) corrupted evil version is more confident, while others become hyper or angry. This isn't laziness: it's fear. She doesn't want to step on any toes and start any conflicts. You can see it in how she talks to Jimmy and fWhip: giving them what they need not to win, but to end things.

This is how Gem maintains the story role of a wizard: she's always trying to stop things, so she's never starting new things, only making them better or worse. But how does Gem get away with it? She's simultaneously one of the most invested players in the lore, yet playing a character who'd rather be anywhere else. That dichotomy is entertaining, sure, but there's something else here.

Wizard Gem is loyal, curious, and moral. Just... not obviously.

Gem is unfathomably loyal. While she plays both sides, she's always standing alongside her allies in battle and all her actions are ensuring they're safe. She may be exasperated, yet treats her immediate alliance members with kindness. How fWhip drags her into things, but he never asks her to, it's always Gem CHOOSING to follow him because what else is she gonna do? Let him do it himself? How Sausage makes her laugh with his absurdity, even when they're fighting. How she's always a little uncomfortable, even in her great empire, except in the quiet simple moments with her allies between schemes.

(Still can’t believe roseblings isn’t canon. Like fWhip’s line about how he blew up relations with Scott because he messed with Gem, "it's okay fWhip I'm fine now," their tones, ohhhh devious work. They don't need to be canon, nonfamilial platonic relationships and all that, but STILL. I'm only human.)

Gem's also invested in magic and learning more about it, and she learns to trust and share that with others. The Crystal Cliffs Academy demonstrates growth: from solving problems herself when they’re too big to ignore, to actually addressing things at the source. Explicitly, the goal is to strengthen other empires magic knowledge so less crises happen. That’s preventative instead of reactionary. Even choosing the Ocean Queen as her first student is intentional: not an ally, causes a lot of medium scale ruckuses, in text Gem sensed her using transformation magic that wasn’t hers and wanted to guide Lizzie towards at least controlling it. Start of season Gem would’ve just kept handling any crises herself.

Essentially, Gem is trying SO HARD to be good. As anon said, she has a sort of rigid thinking (again, fun contrast between CC experimental and C rigidity) that creates this fantastic mix where she's staying true to the Wither Rose because she loves them and wants to keep them safe as their friend, but also trying to act for the greater good as a wizard, even though she'd rather focus on her own things. It's not a stable point of view, and is constantly challenged, creating the amazing series of events that we get to see unfold.

Also, Wizard Gem is straight up cool.

Regarding imagery, Wizard Gem has a distinct style that’s so fun to build and draw and write about. She's magical and otherworldly (dragons, the end) but also ethereal and magnificent on a human scale (towers, the moon.) Amethyst itself is inherently unique: something about forming deep under pressure, growing slow and beautiful, sought after as thrones and paths alike. These aesthetics have infinite storytelling potential, and look cute doing it.

And all these things are carried into Gem’s imagery as a whole! Losing her eye to and getting corrupted by the end portal in Life Series, building dragons and towers and villages all across her mc worlds, often using the moon in builds like her hc10 lighthouse. She’s solidly the moon in shinyduo sun/moon dynamic (while they both employ sun/moon all the time, Pearl builds and lores solidly more sun, let alone their comedy dynamic.) Even the struggle between embracing/chasing excellence versus holding herself back out of fear: that's Gem in every world! Emp1 is combining a lot of Gem's themes into one single character. And turns out she's really awesome!

This character wholeness lets Gem maintain her signature exasperated excellence over the other players. Like PVP prowess and building skill, she's an expert here too, and delightful to watch and interact with. Wizard Gem is amplifying everything, trying to keep her loved ones safe, learning that she needs to make peace herself, all while staying true to her beautiful masterful self.

Finally, CC!Gem is delighted to roleplay like this.

Every time she turns to the camera to give disclaimers and talk about her character, there's an infectious joy and "I can't believe this is my job." She often compares it to D&D, which ohh the parasocial brainrot is taking so normally, but also there's an unapologeticness to it. If you don't like her character / the roleplay / etc, stop watching, whatever, this is fun for the rest of us. Her and other CCs have talked about the crippling pushback from playing antagonistic characters -- and there's no shortage of that in emp1, she has to put disclaimers on the RP portions! But unlike Life Series where she's constantly fighting demons (it's own post, really) Wizard Gem is having too much fun to care. I think that's why emp1 hits different, at least for us Gem girlies. She's taking this seriously, and she's having the time of her life.

I originally posted about Worldhopper/Watcher Gem because that adds an extra layer of spice to her in all series, but it's still really awesome by itself. Summoning the dragons from ANOTHER WORLD? Hello?? Don't think I missed her using the nether portal to change skins either. Giggling during convos with Xornoth, undaunted by the Empires Crown, the list goes on. One day someone will assemble all her characters into the same room to compare notes and that someone will either be me or Geminitay herself.

In short, Empires S1 Gem is a Wizard. She's a catalyst, she ultimately wants peace, she's loyal curious and moral, she's straight up cool, and she's having fun. And isn't that just the most magical joy of all?

Would Elias be okay with a Yandere Darling? Someone who is just obsessed with him as he is with us? Like Darling/us stalks him basically all the time, knows where he lives, job, favorite place to eat, what shampoo he uses and fucking favorite underwear idk just crazy shit. They design clothes for him to wear while modeling but it's always sent anonymously with flowers and poems. And if they end up together Darling will threaten to kill anyone who dares try to get close to Elias. Even if it's looking at him a certain way, saying his outfit looks nice/hair or flirting, like they will kill just to keep his eyes on Darling. They love making clothes for him and dressing him up just for them to see and loving all over him, calling him "My pretty baby" while just kissing all over him. They don't care if he's boring, they love him no matter what.

This ask got me thinking, we've talked about a reader who's also obsessed with Elias before here and here but imagine just how utterly unserious it must be to be obsessed with this man.

And yes this will call out the Elias fans a bit as well but just think for a second. This man doesn't have a favorite color, doesn't have a favorite food or drink, no interest, no hobbies, just sits in his house most of the time and rarely goes to work and he isn't even the one who takes care of most of the actual work related stuff.

If you're stalking him legit the only interesting info you can get is what beauty products he uses and occasionally get angry over people falling in love with his looks. He doesn't even go on dates, there's literally nothing for you to start drama over.

If you hacked his phone in hopes of finding fun stuff you'd just be so disappointed because the only people in his contacts are his parents (whom he hasn't called in months) and his manager (whom he rejected most of the calls from). Most of his messages are just spam and ads, there are barely any pictures in his gallery (we are assuming you two aren't dating yet), hell there aren't even any games what the fuck does this man spend time on.

His phone wallpaper is the default one the phone came with and his screen time is probably 1 hour a day at most because he doesn't even have social media apps to spend time on. His manager takes care of his social media presence anyway so he doesn't feel the need to download them himself.

You could maybe MAYBE start drama about how close he is with his manager if Elias at least gave two shits about him and the poor manager wasn't miserable trying to keep Elias' job together while constantly getting ignored by him.

Some thoughts from severance s2e3, and the season in general:

I 100% assumed the reason the goat people were asking to see their bellies was to see if they had belly buttons. Since the prevailing theory is that the goats are for cloning purposes, i figured they wanted to make sure they weren’t clones (clones not having belly buttons because they weren’t birthed/have need for an umbilical cord). If we take the pouches line at face value, I’d guess that they were told a rumor that MDR had pouches, to sow division and fear between the departments (like the fake uprising told to MDR about O&D, and vice versa).

The Export Floor. The fact that O&D used to deliver things there themselves, but then a courier was used. My theory is that someone saw something there they shouldn’t have. I don’t know how o!Irving knows about it, but I’m not here to discuss that right now. What I want to talk about is the name. The obvious one is exporting goods (or even ideas) to other countries, and this could simply mean it’s where stuff made by O&D gets sent up to the ‘outtie’ world. But there’s another possibility - export as in transferring data to another software/format. I think it’s this meaning that is critical, and has big implications for Gemma/Ms. Casey. They could be transferring the data MDR has refined to her chip, or in some way or another, working on “Cold Harbor.”

I am very firmly in the ‘that’s Helena’ camp now. I don’t think this is in character for Helly, as the extremely awkward conversation in the hall with Mark as well as telling Irving they ‘got him’ sealed it for me. I’m fairly certain that management knows it’s Helena; after all, they don’t activate her chip, although I won’t rule out she paid someone off/threatened them to do it. That said, I like to believe she compromised with the board to go down as herself, instead of as Helly. This would also mean that she can encourage Mark to go places that Lumon specifically wants him to see, instead of ones that are much more confidential. However, I think she’ll end up siding with the innies by the end, simply because the connections she will forge with them will be the only genuine and loving relationships in her life.

I didn’t mention this before, but i’m pretty sure Irving knows that Helena/Helly is lying, because he was the only innie who spent enough time outside to know that it was winter and she couldn’t have been gardening. He distrusts her, that’s why he only told Dylan about Burt.

Upon immediately seeing Dylan’s wife I assumed she was a hired actress. However it genuinely appears to be her (granted, I’m faceblind, but the voice sounded the same when she was with his outtie later in the episode). Lumon clearly thinks that this perk will keep i!Dylan in line, but I think it might backfire spectacularly, or at least cause significant drama - his wife is going to fall in love with his innie. Think about it, if their marriage is going through a rough patch, and she gets to spend time with a version of her husband who lacks all of the assumptions/grudges he has against her - basically starting all over… yeah, it’s gonna get strange. The way she talked about it to o!Dylan was like she was hiding it from him, almost like it’s the beginning of a potential affair…

(I also am still of the mind that either she or one of their children is terminally ill in some way, hence the benefits/insurance that Dylan is always looking after. He also complained a few times about having sore arms and jokes he works out. I feel this might be related somehow? But not sure…)

I stand by my theory that the board is actually the motherboard and is Kier’s (and his successors?) consciousness, or something of that ilk. The board was referred to as “it” in this episode (also “they”, but I believe that was meant as in plural, including Natalie). So I think we actually don’t have any proof that it’s multiple people or even people period. It will be like the export double meaning I mentioned earlier. Again, the board is hot on Mark staying and working because it wants him to finish Cold Harbor so it can begin the revival of Kier’s family (the rotation could potentially mean their minds being uploaded. Or something of that nature.)

No big theories or details to chew on here, but things that got big reactions from me: the Black Kier portraits I was expecting but still not prepared for. I desperately want to see Natalie’s portraits that she received; were they all biracial, all women, or both? The idea of genderbent biracial Kier family is killing me. This is like Hamilton (I think). Cobel definitely was going to die if she went into the building, she made the right call, I was terrified that her car might explode as she left. Phew. Next episode is going to be a roller coaster, I can tell. Shocked that he’s starting reintegration so soon but I’m here for it. Worried that Devon is going to get murdered. And I’m waiting for Cobel to get hunted down by Mark or for her to willingly seek him out as she realizes this is her only chance left to… do whatever the fuck it is she wants to do.

Bestie I NEED to hear your thoughts about Harley and Bruce possibly being secret twins 👀👀👀👀👀

Been thinking about this for WEEKS i fear!!!! This came right as 'rona dragged me down I'm sorry this took so long!!!

I don't know or care about how secret twins happens, what happens in the bedroom of Thomas and Martha and Alfred Pennywayne is NONE of my business unless they invite me which is fine btw

since they're fraternal twins they COULD TECHNICALLY have different dads. am I saying Alfred is Harley's bio dad perhaps and the clown is going to have empty space where his head used to be but I digress. This explains SO MUCH I feel but also we should in no way think that the parents know this. They don't know nor care because THAT IS THEIR BABIESSS. it would probably be Bruce and Harley finding out when they're forty or something because someone needs a kidney. They purposefully forget the information. They don't need it.

And as insufferable as Thomas is with Baby Brucie can you IMAGINE how AWFUL he would be as a Girl Dad tm. I am thinking of your "if you detain one you detain both I KNOW MY RIGHTS" post but with two children!!. Also Thomas would be THEEE cattiest mfer amongst the other dance moms. My god Alfred and Martha would never know peace. Also a million zillion pictures of each parent konked out while holding 2 sleeping toddlers, THINK on it I beseech thee it's so cute. (But then, Thomas accidentally saving/kidnapping Harley from the park and Bruce and Harley INSISTING they are identical twins. Everyone is like no you really aren't until Thomas gives them the most murderous look known to man over their tiny heads. VERY funny when Jason and Cass also do this)

Maybe Harley was very very sickly as a baby and they kept her a secret to keep the press away. I can see family not talking about Martha's pregnancy AT ALL particularly if it was high risk in any way like she would be visibly pregnant due any day and someone would ask her if she was excited about the baby and she would deadass say 'what baby'.

The ideal scenario the Pennywaynes have for their offspring is that they keep the bambini hidden. as far as the press knows one day 18 year olds pop up outside the Wayne Manor as fully formed scions to the empire. You've never heard of them before? GOOD. That was the point.

Also the DRAMA, the ANGST, I think this makes sense with Bruce's weird dynamic with the Joker (though this could work with just siblings ig)?

Bruce doesn't want to kill the person his twin loves because it would hurt his twin, who HE loves. And killing the Joker could result in Harley hating him! Bruce trying so hard to be supportive for Harley and just be there for her so when she finally decides to leave the Joker she knows Bruce has her back.

Bruce knowing all the stuff about what support systems do that helps and hurts victims of intimate partner violence so he's always playing this balancing act of what he feels like he can say/do about him before it affects Harley. And it being his self given job to stop the Joker from doing HIS self given job. If he helps Gotham he hurts Harley. If he tries to help Harley, he hurts Gotham (does very interesting things to the brainworms when thinking about Jason's murder! about why Bruce feels like he can't or shouldn't go after the Joker--because he's proven he will kill a child and use their mother to get them, that is not a man above using his partner to hurt his nemesis!!! and that would be a whole thing for Bruce, he doesn't act because he's genuinely terrified, worried that if he fails he'll lose harley too

idk if the Joker would know about Harley and Bruce being related or Bruce being Batman but I could see this being the turning point for how Harley views the Joker. Like, she'd been going over to the Manor to help Jason talk through his feelings every month for years. Would it have mattered if the Joker knew he was her nephew?)

Also makes the weird sexual tension Bats has with the Joker even weirder if he IS aware of their relationship. He'd be so gross about it. Yes the Joker wants the Wayne twins. He flirts with them in front of the other to piss them off, mostly Harley. Would highkey lie and say Bruce was flirting with him to drive a wedge between Bruce and Harley oh my god I went such a not fun direction with this

Identical twins could be very funny if they were separated at birth no i do not know why they would be separated just roll with me. the one that does not transition is like "why do you have a picture of me as a kid this is creepy what do you mean that's you' . Everyone at college is like ha ha you two look like you could be related! You do the same icky face when you eat pineapple. They dOn'T sEe iT

Maybe she was kidnapped (by like a very young deathstroke or something idk) and SOMEhow Oswald Cobblepot winds up with this feral toddler in his possession. A goon made a terrible life choice perhaps? And Ozzie is just an up and coming crime lord, still settling into the family business, how tf is he supposed to know the Waynes are missing THIS child? if he knew don't you think he'd be extorting people??? I think they could have some very fun and adorable Stacker Pentecost and Mako Mori vibes this man has NO idea how to raise a child but by god!! He will do it right!!! Literally nobody knows about her, he would have people killed for suspecting her existence.

But also take your daughter to work day??!? Harley yelling at incompetent goons in a sweet baby voice. Ozzie is SO PROUD of her, he wouldn't have minded her going into the family business but she's going to be a doctor!! He is just a proud papa!!! Fearsome crime lord The Penguin with sparkle pink nail polish and bows stuck to his head having a tea party with Lil Harley.

I think this is ALSO interesting with the Joker!! I would love if the only reason his dumb ass wasn't taken out the moment he stepped foot in Gotham was because he's Harley's Boyfriend. The only thing stopping the rogues from turning on him is that Harley likes him!! Is he the Gotham version of a crypto-finance bro?

What if it's an older Harley who is kidnapped? Like post Thomas and Martha shooting. It's part of what cements Bruce's notoriety as the Last Wayne. (Everyone asks if he can sense her through their Twin Bond and he gets sooooo mad that's not a real thing!!!! He feels so guilty because if that was a real thing, shouldn't he be able to find her? Shouldn't he know????)

Cut to Batman and Joker in a showdown and there is Harley and Bats CAN'T STOP STARING?!??? why does she seem so familiar? So, you mentioned low standards of research in podcasts. I don't listen to podcasts or watch a lot of videos about fandom analysis, but I have seen error corrections happening in the wild for what I have listened to, so I can only imagine how annoying it is when you know your shit.

Do you have any resources that come to mind as things everyone who likes fandom should be comfortable with, or specific essays on uniquely important fandoms (such as Sherlock Holmes or Star Trek) that everyone should read? Obviously the OTW resources are up there; what else?

Aside from resources, do you think there are any skills that are especially vital for getting to the bottom of fandom trends? Interview skills are probably pretty high up there.

Any pitfalls you see a lot of young fans falling into?

(I do a lot of fandom history research. It is the thing that gives me joy in fandom; other people like shipping or AUs, I like my little mini-anthropology sandbox and watching how ideas spread. I'm not necessarily good at it, but it's fun!)

Well... it's the usual things.

For example, a lot of fans claim to love fandom stats, but the ones that get passed around come from like three people. The people doing those stats, including me, don't usually have a statistics background, which doesn't automatically make them bad, but it really seems like people are just trusting anything with a pie chart.

We've recently seen people discover that those year-end AO3 ship stats have a seriously weird methodology. They don't show the thing their fans are actually trying to find out. People were pissed. But most of the time, they don't even bother asking what the methodology is or trying to do anything themselves.

There's far too much sitting back and waiting for some BNF to spoon feed one publicly-available information.

The big failings aren't usually the math itself but, of course, not knowing what question to ask, so it pertains to history research, not just stats.

You'll see a lot of stuff on shipping that looks at AO3 because AO3 shipping numbers are easy to pull... But AO3 shipping numbers don't just happen to be easy to pull: that is both an effect and a cause that is directly related to AO3's content. Someone interested in meta shouldn't be asking "What do AO3's numbers show?" as their first question. They should be asking "Why is this metadata available or not available and what does that mean on a sociological level?"

Thing two is the eternal I Have Apparently Never Heard of Anime problem. A fuckton of people theorizing about fandom trends seem to know fucking nothing about whole massive sectors of fandom or treat them as afterthoughts. This is okay if you're writing a history of Media Fandom. It is criminally stupid if you're trying to talk about what makes a piece of media have fic when another doesn't, what kinds of websites make fandoms take off, etc. Those kinds of broad questions need a broad understanding of what's out there.

It's not anime-specific, and I'm not asking for a high degree of knowledge.

I have routinely had people tell me that best friend ships and mystery/crime as a genre aren't popular, and that's why AO3 has this or that pattern... Meanwhile, buddy cops are the bedrock of oldschool slash fandom and make up basically all of the longest-running Western m/m fandoms that aren't Star Trek. CSI slop tends to have legions of future canon het shippers, and they make plenty of fanworks. It's just that some of this is more visible on FFN or older places, not AO3.

I'm always seeing things like someone speculating about how this and that anime fandom thing or bit of mid-00s FFN community drama led to this other thing on AO3, not realizing that AO3 came out of LJ Western fandom slash culture. To them, FFN is so central that it must be the main reference point, not the bajillion and one archives AO3 founders ran or Usenet or mailing lists or LJ.

I once saw someone asking on twitter about where a prominent Ranma fic might have been posted in the mid-90s. People claiming "My professor is an authority!" came out of the woodwork in droves to blither about K/S zines and then LJ. Not only was this entirely wrong, but the right answer was blindingly obvious if you knew enough to interpret the google results. I can only assume that the person tweeting had never heard of Usenet and didn't recognize the acronym for the big anime fanfic group that literally everything like this was first posted to.

I'm talking people insisting that fandom only goes for white characters when it's very obvious that fandom goes for majority leads who are not othered. All the bawwing in the world about "People assume anime characters are white" won't get rid of The Untamed or Kpop thirsters or whatever.

I'm talking sweeping pronouncements about gender and fanfic writers where the person hasn't even heard of FIMFiction or SpaceBattles or Dark Lord Potter cheesefests.

I've been in fandom for a long time, but I wasn't in all these parts, and I wasn't around for 80s zines. You don't need deep knowledge until you pick a research topic. But it's shocking how little shallow, broad knowledge a lot of people have when they're writing their Theory Of All Of Fandom History.

People are stupid as shit about survivorship bias, and fandom history is no exception. They're also dumb in the opposite direction, assuming that the thing they like now has always existed in this exact form.

For example, someone got mad at Fanlore for supposedly not documenting the history of f/f zines. Others have searched and searched for the zines of their old show they got into last year and are bewildered to not find any. The reality is that Fanlore editors are attempting to document every Media Fandom zine and have combed through old adzines looking for any mention of anything. Because of the methods of distribution—because it was expensive���small fandoms often had no zines at all.

Femslash fandom doesn't seem to have gotten enough critical mass to do much until Xena. The internet has really democratized things, but even the early internet was still somewhat in that old mindset where only certain popular things have a fandom. I think Yuletide itself, which started in 2003, really helped spread the idea of rare-but-existing fandoms being a thing. FFN and perhaps some other multifandom archives like Media Miner played a huge role.

Nowadays, we think of fic as just how you respond to media, any media, even if there are only two fics for that one car commercial, but that isn't how people saw things in every era—or at least it's not how fandom infrastructure worked. A lot of the time, the big hosting spots were single-fandom archives, often with restrictive content rules. Finding somewhere to post a m/m/f OT3 fic used to be hard. Never mind early zines when photocopiers didn't even exist yet and you had to sell out your print run of 500 to make a go of it.

All good research starts with a lot of preliminary investigation to figure out what you're even trying to look for.

Actually bothering to look for fans talking about their own history or casually chatting with your interview subjects before the formal interview will put a person miles ahead of many of the cringeworthy fandom ~papers~ I've seen.

The biggest mistake people make is going "Okay, these numbers aren't perfect, but some numbers are better than no numbers".

Bullshit.

As soon as there's a pie chart of the false numbers, everyone's brain turns off and they never look at the chart subtitle, never mind the research notes.

Bad numbers are often worse than no numbers.

Look at the logic behind the methodology first. Look at the social context. Basic understanding of human nature and familiarizing oneself with the shape and hangout locations of a community will get you most of the way there before you sit down for a specific interview or try to collect any specific numbers.

None of this is a fandom thing. Research is research. It's just that most people think "research" means watching a tiktok that the algorithm likes and were never taught how to evaluate a source for reliability.

Evaluating sources is a skill. I had explicit lessons on it in school. Lots of people don't, and that sucks.

Honestly, watching the more thoughtful debunking content on non-fandom topics, like Miniminuteman's stuff on pseudo-archaeology or Dan Olson's... everything, is a good window into critical thinking, and that's most of what's missing from bad fandom history.

But more than any of that, more is more. Not the crap stats, but the narrower, more personal accounts, the interviews. The more fans who investigate their little corner that isn't the same old AO3 site-wide "Why is there so much m/m?" ship stats or the same canned "Everything comes from K/S" history, the better.

What I object to is not amateur efforts but efforts that pull from the same small pool of data or that just reblog a tiny handful of supposed authorities.

If people are going to read just one thing... hmm... go try to look up a history of rec.arts.anime.creative, not because I think it's the most important fandom history out there but because it's at the nexus of things a lot of current fandom history work miss.

I made the assumption Olive was editing the wiki articles, and while that's a very logical conclusion to reach, it was actually someone who shares the same viewpoints as them!!! Anything including the wiki articles and Olive's involvement is wrong and that's my bad!!!

Alright fellas, I guess we did it. We have reached the tipping point. I'm going to dedicate this post to calling out one specific person, @olivescales3, and their very toxic behavior. This post will be a bit messy, and I do apologize in advance, I'm writing this from the perspective of a Ninjago fan who also thinks beyond just the petty fandom stuff, what they're doing is just not cool.

I will clarify, I do not make this post for petty fandom drama, I make this to better spread awareness on some of the bullshit they're doing, so you can look out for and understand that they're bullshitting. Without further ado, I think we should just get into it.

So, what have they done?

Now, I should say while there is no 100000% concrete link between hyenabro and olivescales, I think based on their talking points (as well and the information I've recieved from friends in the Chima fandom, who have a bunch of prior experience with them,) it's safe to make this assumption!

So, what has olivescales DONE in this case? Simple, they've vandalized the Chima wiki on NUMEROUS occasions, even after several different people have revised their revisions, so as to discredit any conenctions between Dragons Rising and Chima.

(Green is their edits, red is the ones prior to theirs, I found this while going through their contributions section on their Fandom account, HyenaBro119)

As seen here, they have (under the username HyenaBro119) edited the pages for Chima AND the Forever Rock (I have two similar screenshots of essentially the same thing, one was from the Forever Rock article, the other was from Chima) and claimed Ninjago's lore to be some alternate universe. To further validate it, they write "Ras' visit to," but Ras NEVER claimed to have VISITED these locations, just that he knows them. They also claim the Forever Rock was destroyed, a blatant lie. Only a small section of rock on the Forever Rock was actually destroyed, not the whole thing.

Now, you're gonna ask "but Raine, how can you 100000% say it's them?" and I will cite common sense. While I cannot directly tie Olive to hyena, I CAN say their wording is SO very similar.

Both Hyena and Olive call DR "a parallel/alternate universe," and again, claim Forever Rock was destroyed, WHICH IS A FULL ON LIE. They're so adamant to protect "the sanctity of Chima's pre-established, set-in-stone lore" that they can't stop to think maybe, JUST MAYBE, sometimes a story can get new lore which can ALSO be canon!

I'd also love to share this HILARIOUS screenshot of one of their many posts, which not only backs up what I'm saying, but it's like damn they really set themself up huh!

Gee I wonder why you feel alone! Maybe it's because you are! Maybe it's because you're lying and making shit up to prove yourself right! No one is as big of a hater as you!

The also LOVE saying Ninjago cannot do anything with Chima unless they get express permission from the creator of Chima, some guy named John Derevlany, but oh man what's this I see before me?

CO-CREATOR? Oh but Olive, I thought he was the CREATOR of Chima, not CO-creator... ALSO Lego owns the rights to Chima, and Ninjago, and every other theme, as said by Doc himself! If anything he wasn't really dodging the question, just giving a vague answer, because he doesn't know much about the old contracts!

From what he said, it's clear that if they wanted to use anything from the other themes, they'd have to consult folks over at LEGO, not John Derevlany or Tommy A.!

Now here's the THING, I GET where they're coming from, it CAN be annoying to have people only care about a thing you like in relation to something else, but when you're going out of your way to argue that none of it can be canon and it's all an alternate universe it's like... god it's so sad and pathetic really.

Their lies and BS don't even end there with the wiki shit, because I have THIS glorious gem.

A) They bring up that the Ninjago folk do not know who the Phoenixes are which is like, okay??? Why the fuck are they gonna know about how another universe was created??? That's like if someone told me I don't exist in the same universe as my glasses because I have no clue who made them, that is to say, that's stupid as FUCK to say!

B) OH they say something REAAALLL funny ohohohho I am actually dying. Olive says the Phoenix icon "appeared in a Ninjago episode" and "Ninjago tends to reuse assets." Yep, NINJAGO is the one who reused the phoenix symbol, mhm. The symbol that was made in 2011 for NINJAGO, which cameoed in CHIMA in 2014, was actually just an asset reuse by Ninjago. I feel like this actually goes to show how desparate they are to feel right and validated, because this? This a lie! Ninjago made the symbol, and because Tommy A. is co-creator to both, he wanted to slip in a neat Ninjago reference, so he slipped in the Phoenix symbol Nya uses for the Phoenix tribe, not the other way around!

Another REALLY funny thing they did, aside from the wiki and Phoenix symbol shit, was this hilarious attempt at being right!

Yes, the compared the WOLF Masks to BATman's cowl, and did a horribly rough comparison illustration that very much does not make sense. If you actually compared them side by side, the only similarities would be they're both angry animal themed mask with pointy ears, which does NOT go very far in the long run. The foreheads they drew aren't even the same fucking shape lol.

OH ANS WE CANNOT FORGET THIS ONE! Their using a post about the Palestinian genocide and boycotting Lego in order to complain about Ninjago.

They claim Ninjago is produced by Lego, unlike other Lego shows, which is an EXTREMELY bullshit fucking claim. Just like Chima and Nexo Knights, Ninjago is produced by Lego, it's not JUST Ninjago produced by Lego, they are all Canadian-Danish CGI action shows, and they're all known to have Tommy Andreasen involved in the creation of them.

They're using a post about boycotting for the sake of innocent people DYING to complain about a lego ninja show for... killing evil people? It doesn't glorify war, the worst it does in regards to war is like not address how fucked up it can be in regards to the Serpentine War, but that's like it. I think it's so funny they want to single out Ninjago as if it's the only TV series where villains die for trying to conquer/destroy the world.

So, what do I want the takeaway from this post to be? What do I want you to get from it? I don't really know anymore, I just don't want Olive's horrendously toxic behaviors, and straight up lies to stop. If anything I think it's beautiful that Ninjago is making others interested in revisiting Chima again, stop being such a fucking hater dude. They act like Chima is some holy grail of Lego, the greatest thing since bread, but it, just like Ninjago, Dreamzzz, Hidden Side, and Nexo Knights, have Tommy in creative roles.

To act like Chima is somehow greater than is to place it on an unrealistic pedestal as if it's a godsend, when in reality it was co-created by Tommy Fucking Andreasen.

how to adapt into dtblr culture for twitter refugees

so you've decided to move here from twitter. welcome and congratulations. this post is basically a big warning that goes THIS ISN'T TWITTER, DON'T BEHAVE LIKE IT IS, LEAVE THAT AT THE DOOR

i'll be teaching you two things, how the site works, and how to adapt your behavior to tumblr ( and really, normal human being ) culture. believe me, it's not that hard and it will actually feel very productive

let's start with the basics and frequent questions

your username can be anything, don't stress about it

your picture can be anything. a lot of us don't even have dteam related stuff up on our profile

your display name doesn't have to be your name. nobody is going to see it when you post, only usernames are visible

check your settings. do it. get familiar with them. turning on and off asks, turning anon off, turning submissions off. click on your blog, go to blog settings, check things there, go to account, your muted things will be there, go to dashboard and customize that. use your settings !!!

yes, pinned posts are fairly important and they tend to be pretty extensive. name age what you post about ( a lot of people here are multifandom !), just don't overshare ( no locations no trigger lists i beg you ). they also usually have a breakdown of your tags at the end

tags

it's a whole thing. some are actually useful. some are just passive commentary

the tags you put on posts ( both when you made the post and when you're reblogging something ) are both global and hosted on your profile. it's why you'll see things like "nameofperson art" rather than just "art". using just "art" will put you in the promoted tag, in this case

you can use spaces on your tags

usually you will tag what type of post you're making ( art, text post, ask post ), and then the contents keep in mind this is how people often mute things, some people tag the current situation, people use and mute ship tags. but this is also how people find things, like the specific asks from one person to another, so "username ask" is commonly used, "irl person ( dream, dnf, etc )" is also seen a lot just watch how others tag things and copy them. nobody will get offended you took their tag formatting, most of us will appreciate properly tagged posts

you do tag when you reblog people. you use tags to comment on things. don't really use replies unless you're, saying thank you to someone or pointing out a spell mistake or asking to add an option to a poll, etc. we don't do replies, just rb your reply

quick reblog and like deets

post popularity is measured in "notes" which is the sum of replies, reblogs and likes. we don't really care much about numbers here and if you start getting crazy about it people will not like it. this is more of a talking and showing site

you can reblog without tags, feel free to

you can hide your likes. you can and should like as many things as you want. they don't alter any algorithm, since there's none. a like is a "i saw this post" notification to the poster

actually posting

people talk a lot. a fucking lot, and it's something you will have to get used to, because it's very different from twitter

there are no qrts. callouts are looked down upon. breathe. if you don't like something MUTE IT DON'T POST ABOUT IT, because no one is going to listen to any callouts. you will have to learn to live with the fact people like things you don't. this will, with time, make you feel very free

i've said this. tumblr is unserious. drama here is approached very differently and with several less layers of panic. you will see death threats. you will see slurs ( said in non derogatory ways ). you will see jokes about serious topics. you will see people say "i didn't like this" and nobody will care

tumblr is a community of individualism. you will like your own things within the thing we share we like. you might not like dream's music, you might not find irl streams entertaining, as long as you're fucking normal about it ? nobody will care and you're free to express your opinions. people will even come ask you about it and just have a chat. we're here for the same content to some degree

tumblr is also a bunch of people who understand they like another bunch of people. that none of the streamers have stopped being human. so you might see people defend things that, maybe, you'd not have thought to defend before. maybe you're even uncomfortable seeing them defending it. this is something you will experience a lot, and you'll learn to properly deal with it as time passes

because again. no one does callouts here unless it is extremely bad. no one cares if you don't really like them. and they also accept people might and will not like them. and that is fine. and that doesn't make either person horrible. you're just different people. and you don't even have to interact

you want to make friends ? ask people things, compliment people's work, genuinely attempt to make conversation. this is not an impersonal website the way twitter is. people don't care about your opinions because they care about you, and you are more than what you don't like

the more positive and jokey and interactive you are the more people will talk to you. there's no "hitting the algorithm", there's no "engagement", it's just people talking to people. so don't be a neg posting bot, and be a person

you will learn to be less miserable. you learn to stop giving a shit and just do what makes you happy. they cannot get you here. there's no qrts. the few antis you'll find can be blocked and you'll never have to directly interact with one. don't be mean to the people in your own community, even if you disagree

again, you are more than what you don't like. learn to be what you like instead. and leave the dooming at the door

I love jack so so much he's perfect but tbh I do think it would've worked much more with the show if he was a destiel baby instead of lucifer's. and I'm not just saying that as a shipper or whatever I mean narratively it would've been a lot cleaner- and actually, I think it would've been super funny to no-homo them creating a baby together, like, literally all they would have to do is say "oh, when cas rebuilt dean after hell he accidentally left some grace tangled in his soul, and every time he's healed him since then it's been growing stronger until a nephilim was born". like yes the studio is homophibic etc etc but all the jokes they'd make about dean being spiritually pregnant would be very funny for me personally.

but ANYWAY, jack's story gets messy and convoluted and I think this would've been like...a simple fix. them worrying about him going dark side could be because they're worried how demon!dean and lucifer!cas affected him in development, the show LOVES bloodline drama, chuck's wanting abraham and issac 2.0 would've worked better this way, dean's storyline with him would be improved, bc rather than 'oh no I slowly but surely emotionally adopted the antichrist' like I think he would've had an easier time clocking his john-behavoir if it wasn't a question whether he was jack's dad or not. plus last time dean actively raised a kid he went to great lengths to keep the supernatural away from him, so it'd be interesting to see how he handles a kid he CANT possibly hide from this part of his life. it would make more sense why michael wanted jack as a vessel- yes obviously he wanted the nephilim power boost but also having him as part of the winchester bloodline, making him a PERFECT vessel he doesn't have to worry about burning up would add a lot. we could also use this argument for why lucifer is so interested in him if anyone actually liked that plotline in season 14 lmao. we know chuck hated cas and dean's relationship, could you imagine if he checked in and found out they made an unauthorized baby together💀 like that really would've given better context for why he hates jack so much. cas wouldn't need that whole weird brainwashing arc to wanna protect unborn jack, PLUS it could've been an interesting source of angst for him- he feels like he's failed once again, creating an abomination and putting dean in danger, but also still loves jack immensely. it'd be so good! also imagine how fucking stressed out heaven would be to find out a mini castiel is on the way. they wouldn't even wanna exploit that kid for power they'd be preemptively treating the headaches they know they're gonna get lmfao.

also. the casting directors literally put jensen and misha into a face morph app and cast the first actor they could find that matched the results. which would've made more sense if,,,,he was just Theirs. the comedy of dean and cas making a baby before either of them managed to admit their feelings to each other would be more fun then the "dude adopted a kid and pawns him off on his unwilling roommate's all the time and they eventually warm up to the kid" storyline we actually got. we also could've replaced some of the jack-dean angst from the show with "dean wants to connect more with jack but he feels shut out whenever cas is around bc he can't relate to any angel stuff so obviously jack's going to cas for help more!", which I think would be interesting!! how AWFUL dean and cas would feel that jack didn't feel safe enough to be a baby. dad!sam is still in full swing but he cares for jack right off the bat instead of trying to use him for his powers at first. lily sunder talking about how cas killed her kid bc he thought it was a nephilim and dean, who's already fully aware he's (spiritually) knocked up by cas is like 👹 inch resting cas-tee-elle tell me more. mary having a 'my baby has a baby' crisis. cas insisting jack looks nothing like him is a running joke but then at some point he explains its bc jack's 'true form' looks just like dean's soul....

ALSO- in a show where, canonically, the very first act of free will was cas falling in love with dean...the physical manifestation of that defeating chuck and taking his place as god? come ON.

Fyi, I didn't hate the premise. I also don't hate: 1) The animation; 2) The voice acting; 3) The potential the show had, and hopefully still has, since it will apparently have at least four seasons.

But ever since HB went from being about the misadventures of assassins in Hell, into a romance drama between two characters who are clearly toxic for each other, that's when I started hating the plot. The third point you made is true, I do hate the plot, and I will continue to do so, unless all this focus on an abusive gay ship (Stolitz) shifts back to what got me and a lot of other people into the show in the first place. And no, I'm not going to stop being vocal about it just because someone else told me to. You're on the internet buddy, learn to accept the fact that not everyone will have the same opinions as you.

And that's really NOT something to get worked up about.

She physically abused Blitzø just because he called her out RIGHTFULLY, remind me why she didn't beat the shit out of him again in the latest episode after Blitzø wanted her to overwork herself AND didn't pay her for a month?

Oh and there's also the time Loona cheered for Blitzø, tucked him in and called him dad. Why is she abusive towards him in the very next episode?

That's the inconsistency I'm talking about.

As for the other main characters:

I genuinely relate to Octavia. And I feel sorry for her. Enough said.

I don't care about Millie. It's too little too late for that.

I'm not sure how to feel about Moxxie. Where is his character arc even going? What is his character arc? Learning to stand up for himself for the millionth fucking time?

Stella is a wasted character whose only purpose is making Stolas seem "innocent." I hate what the writers did to her.

Also yes, I dislike Viv for reasons that are 100% valid and available to the public, so I'm not making stuff up.

Hey guys, as much as I HATE internet drama and personally have a lot of stuff to worry about in real life instead of wasting my time here, discussing WHATEVER. I have to come here and talk about this.

First of all, I personally LOVE postal. All of the games, I own merch of it, I own the games, I even own the movie. I drew and will draw a lot of stuff about the game. I enjoy playing it, I enjoy creating for it, I just like it. And when I came around here I was pretty excited, there were a lot of people who share my interests and there still are BUT there's a bit of a problem.

I haven't been posting much stuff related to the games, mostly because I just didn't have time and I do other stuff that is not always related. And while I was away I kinda started noticing a bit of a shift in the fandom, maybe it's just me watching it from the perspective of someone who doesn't interact with it that much by now, but damn it does feel strange.

True crime. True crime is interesting, if you think about it well enough, all human history is true crime but there's a bit difference between "Wow, this story is interesting, I wonder how that happened" and "Wow, those guys are hot and thanks to that we'll dismiss what they did, which is, killing people". You guys??? Are dumb. Sorry to say it, but don't put people who are genuinely interested in just crimes that happened and idiots who worship killers. This came a lot later than I thought it would but YAY IT'S HERE NOW!

Unlike the last post, these will be organized in order of silliest to saddest with titles! Just cause!

Timeline Clarifications

After much thought and consideration, I decided to have this ship take place at most 10 or less years before the events of Transformers One.

I wanted to put a big emphasis on White Diamond's loneliness and social disconnect, and I felt having them be together for the equivalent of 10 years to be the best. If she were to have been in Iacon for much longer, she'd have more time to adjust to the environment and culture and I really want her to be an overconfident nervous wreck. Also, the additional drama of Sentinel realizing his kingdom could crumble at any time as energon begins to run out while dealing with a wannabe therapist breathing down his neck is really funny.

Besides, for beings that live for thousands, if not millions of years, a decade is the equivalent of a 6 month relationship. That may not sound like a long time, but it doesn't take long for a toxic relationship to leave you drained and broken.

There are also other reasons, but those are for me alone to know (they are Steven related so that is particularly important).

Midsommars One

Realized this a while ago but White Diamond and Sentinel Prime’s relationship is essentially a less sympathetic, more abusive version of Dani and Chris’ from Midsommar. Luckily for Sentinel, it doesn’t end with him being Freddy Fazbear Pizzeria Simulator’ed. Or would he have preferred going out like that?

Sentinel Prime gets Pavlov’d lmao

I remembered this one Tumblr post about op giving their crush his favorite candy, so whenever he saw them he’d get excited and then get confused as to why he felt that way. I definitely think White Pavlov’d Sentinel, but instead of treats, it’s with chin kibble scratches. So after a while of her doing this, whenever he sees White, he looks all excited and expectantly at White and waits for something only to go "Wait... Why tf am I so happy to see her?" and then continues on with what he was doing. Very stupid, don’t know if Transformer psychology would make this possible, but I think Sentinel is dumb enough for it to work.

Don’t put em in a karaoke place dawg

Sentinel isn't a bad singer, but he has that same pop sounding voice that sounds good on radio but lacks any real emotion or range behind it. Basically Justin Bieber.

White is voiced by a Broadway actress so we all know her singing chops.

I think it’d be funny to stick em in a karaoke bar and watch em try and sing a romantic duet only for them to start singing over each other and end up competing. Bless the poor spark in the audience who Sentinel points at to ask whose performance they thought was the best. No matter what the bot answers, they will be wrong.

In regards to the meme

White Diamond calls him by all sorts of pet names, including Cybertronian, Gem, Human, and random nonsense ones she makes up on the spot.

Sentinel gets really annoyed by those quickly, as he finds them immensely cheesy. He doesn’t even know what most of them mean.

Sentinel only really calls her the basic stuff like "dear", "sweetie" and occasionally the more affectionate ones like "sweetspark", "my Diamond" when they're in public.

In private, he just defaults to White, or he calls her by her full name if he's really not in the mood to deal with her (either from exhaustion or he’s pissed off at her).

He does call her pet names, but only when he wants to be on her good side or, on rare occasions, when he does want to express affection (mostly so he could get her affection in return).

They talk a bunch of shit about other people

That’s it. That’s the headcanon.

One of the main ways they bond is redirecting their criticisms and resentment of each other onto the innocent bot walking past them who didn’t buff that morning.

White believes her “critiques” are for the bot’s sake, to help improve them and make them the best they could be, and for Sentinel to absorb and internalize for the sake of his own betterment.

Sentinel doesn’t delude himself into thinking he’s being noble when he tells his sparkmate all sorts of cruel rumors he’s heard about others, sprinkled with insults about their appearance and passing judgement on their life choices.

Their shit talking is the primary way White gets to know all the other bots in his inner circle. She tends to know the embarrassing thing they did 20 cycles go before she even knows their designation.

It ain’t exactly romantic, but them ruthlessly talking shit is where their compatibility really shines.

White likes to watch Sentinel sleep

Yk how Pearl had a habit of watching Steven sleep? Well, she got that habit straight from the very same diamond primarily responsible for the production of pearls!

White insisted on sleeping in the same berth as Sentinel because she's heard that's what normal couples do. They both know Gems don't need sleep, but Sentinel decided to humor her anyway (he thinks he's great at cuddling, he isn't). White Diamond ended up hating it.

She just couldn't get into the zone or quiet her mind, and Sentinel’s frame was not forged for snuggling. She just ended up getting bored and gave up trying. White can't understand how a living being could just... lay there and do nothing for hours straight. Talk about inefficient.

Welp, at least she could pass the time gazing upon a pretty face.

When Sentinel came online, he was met with his darling on his bedside just staring at him. Saying the Faux-Prime was creeped out would be an understatement. He not so politely asked White to never watch him sleep again and to not bother trying to do coupley shit if she can't commit to it.

White did just that... as far as he knew. Every night, she sneaks into his room after he falls into recharge and then leaves right before he comes back online. When not watching him, she snoops around his room and reads through whatever data pad she could get her hands on.

Airachnid knew his boss' gf kept doing this. She never tells him because she finds it hilarious. She did know to put an end to it when White crossed the line and began rummaging through his things. She sternly, almost threateningly, tells her to quit it. White actually obeys… but continues to watch him anyway.

White has her own room in Iacon Tower

When White was getting settled in on Cybertron after being taken on a tour of Iacon City, Sentinel showed her to the habsuite she will be staying in for the duration of her stay.

The Diamond greatly appreciated having her own space and immediately got to turning it into a home away from Homeworld.

She decorated the room with all sorts of crystals and whatever kind of flora she could get her hands on that were reminiscent of her home planet. She even got a few of the drones to remove the berth and replaced it with a zabuton at the very center for her daily meditation and a yoga mat for, well, yoga.

White adored her habsuite perhaps a little too much, as her hikikomori habit came back at full swing and she ended up isolating herself in that room for multiple solar-cycles.

Sentinel only realized her absence when an assistant asked him about her whereabouts. After the novelty of having a beautiful, giant alien woman visiting his city wore off, he straight up just forgot she was living there now.

The Prime panicked and searched high and low for his gem, only thinking to ask Airachnid where in the Pit she was long after he had his drones sweep every corner.

Airachnid simply informed her boss White was in her habsuite the entire time. Sentinel asked why she never mentioned it before, to which she responded “It has been sitting in that position without ever recharging or refueling for solar-cycles. I found that to be a good enough reason to continue surveillance… and I wanted to know how much longer it'd stay in there for.”

Sentinel gently knocked on her habsuite door to respect her privacy, but when he was met with no answer, he asserted his authority as Prime and came in anyway. He was met with the Diamond sitting with her legs crossed with a peaceful look on her face, fully zen. White asked Sentinel if he’d like to meditate with her for a couple of minutes, to which the Prime flat out declined and dragged her out of her room.

Since then, whenever White wanted to be a recluse for a bit, she’d let Sentinel know. She tends to isolate herself when she’s overwhelmed, anxious, or on the brink of mental collapse. As long as she didn’t have her breakdowns near his newly polished statues, Sentinel was A-OK with that.

Sentinel Prime glad his gf is a sentient mood ring

Having to deal with the Quintessons was such a hassle for the Prime. They only spoke in weird clicks, growls, guttural noises, with the occasional blowing hot disgusting steam directly on his faceplate to display displeasure, dissatisfaction, and anger. After years of paying his debts to them, he has gotten the hang of their animalistic communication style, so when White Diamond popped into his life on a Thursday afternoon, he was none too pleased with learning the ropes of how to communicate with *another* alien.

Luckily for Sentinel, White could actually, like, speak. With words. Amazing! Yet her preference for speaking in vague, cryptic, and melodramatic ways may as well have been like speaking in another language. However, parts of her face changing color whenever she felt any strong emotions was quite convenient to the Prime, and especially appreciated.

He only found out when he was showing her off to the other Iacon elites, and she felt so much pride she literally started glowing. Everyone was staring, and when Sentinel noticed, he asked if she was ok, which she simply responded “Hmm? Oh, my apologies.” and immediately turns it off.

Since then, Sentinel noticed that every strong emotion she felt had a corresponding color. White became redder than cinnabar whenever she was enraged, streaks of blue trailed from her eyes when she felt sadness, her cheeks bloomed pink whenever she was flattered and intensified whenever she was flustered or embarrassed, etc, etc.

Of course, the emotionally unavailable clanker used this convenience as a cheat sheet to avoid having to actually, you know, understand her feelings, and instead sets out to keep her color scheme monotone.

Only exception is when Sentinel actively tries to make White blush. He finds that rather cute (and so does his subjects).

I think he’d really get a kick out of seeing in real time how he has such a strong influence on another person’s emotional state. White isn’t a fan but becomes used to it as she finds the unique way she displays her emotions embarrassing. She’d even say he’s doing her a favor in avoiding embarrassing herself and her beloved in public.

She's literally the light of his life

Speaking of glowing, I imagine whenever Sentinel is trying to read a data pad and White is being all nosy, looking over his shoulder, but her light makes it difficult to see the text so he asks her to tone it down and she dims it.

Then when Sentinel has to go into a room or building that is low on light to save on energon, White offers to brighten herself to help him find what he needs.

At some point, Sentinel doesn't bother turning on the lights; he just asks White to accompany him. She appreciates being useful and loves how he actively seeks out her company, even if it’s just to find a data pad or navigate a dark corridor.

WHITE DIAMOND LIKES MINERS???

I bet if White were to ever encounter, meet, or see the miners of Cybertron, her questions would multiply tenfold (after squealing about how cute and tiny they were, mostly because they resembled the Bismuths and reminded her of Pink).

She notices the sheer difference in size compared to the Transformers and asks Sentinel if the cogless bots existing are a result of the Energon no longer flowing freely as it did in the past. She makes a connection to how Era 2 gems had to have several of their abilities (like shape-shifting) significantly reduced because without Pink's essence, they had less of the proper resources to create new gems with their full intended abilities.

Sentinel immediately answers with a short, curt, yes, and doesn’t elaborate.

The more questions she asks about the existence of miners, the more vulnerable he is to having systemic bullshittery exposed. She also asks why there aren't many of them in the same places Sentinel takes her to. He explains that to get the Energon everyone needs to survive, they must spend most of their time in the mines, so they have no time to go to the fancy galas, expensive restaurants, and exclusive events. He then jokes they'd drag dirt and debris everywhere and really ruin the ✨️aesthetic✨️

He conveniently leaves out that even if a miner would like to attend, they wouldn't be allowed to.

White Diamond expresses how she'd like to meet a few of them, but Sentinel discourages her by saying she already distracts him from his work way too often, she'd only be a hindrance to the miners who need to be fully concentrated and focused for their dangerous jobs.

A part of me wants her to sneak into their barracks with a Cybertronian miner disguise to interact with them, like what Pink initially intended with her Rose Quartz disguise. But I doubt she is a fan of shape-shifting for the simple reason that she only wants to look like herself and has no real desire to change that.

Instead, when she sees them on her strolls, she makes sure to greet every bot she lays her eyes on and thank them for their hard work. The miners appreciate the recognition. Sentinel is annoyed that he has to stop every couple of minutes just to satiate White's curiosity enough to keep her from digging.

BREAKING NEWS: Dictators don’t make good boyfriends

Sentinel never let's himself be genuinely vulnerable and loving towards anyone. Not because he's afraid of letting people in. Just because he doesn't want to be "weak" for someone.

He views love as an act of submission. To show love for someone is akin to conceding control to said person. If all the bots under him love and adore him like a god, then Sentinel loving and adoring White would be an indirect admission of viewing her as superior to him. We all know in his perfect world, he has ultimate control over everything and everyone, and no one is above him.

The only reason why he bothers getting into relationships is because he wants the benefits of being loved (attention, companionship, emotional labor, intimacy, status and ego boost) without sacrificing anything (vulnerability, trust, effort) in return.

An egotistical, narcissistic dictator only wants to be in a relationship as a method of reinforcing his own grandiose view of himself at the expense of his partner? Who is surprised?

His “submission” could be easily bought, though. The Quintessons are especially aware of this. Give him a gift, shower him with unearned praise, and he will tell you he loves you like he has to pay rent the next day.

He views relationships as purely transactional, so if he does something nice for his partner, he fully expects to be reimbursed and repaid in full, plus interest.

Inversely, he hates being indebted to his partner.

They could have given him a flower out of the kindness of their heart, and he’d be pissed, because now he has to pay them back with a bouquet.

Do this enough times, and he becomes genuinely resentful and annoyed. Wdym Sentinel Prime has to return his partner’s affections. Isn’t his presence enough??

On a funny note, further along in his relationship with White, he starts becoming genuinely fond of her, which makes Sentinel act like he’s losing some weird one-sided battle and gets really butthurt about it. Even says it’s “lame” and “corny” how he actually looks forward to spending time with White whenever he finishes his Prime duties sometimes lmao.

White Diamond has no real concept of theory of mind.

Theory of mind is the ability for humans to recognize that other humans have their own thoughts, feelings, and opinions that influence them and have thought processes that differ from themselves and others. This develops as children and evolves into the empathy that allows a social species like ours to relate to one another and forge deep connections.

Since White Diamond is a classic narcissist, not only does she lack empathy, but also the theory of mind necessary to develop said empathy. In Era 3, she literally allows other gems to inhabit her body and mind so she can understand them and their emotions better because she is unable to do that on her own.

However, because she still has this self centeredness to her, she has the implicit belief that she has an influence on everyone's emotions, thoughts, and actions. As in, she thinks the world revolves around her, and with enough time and effort, she can change anything.

How this relates to Prime Diamond is that she has trouble understanding why Sentinel acts the way he does, especially with his more morally dubious behaviors.

She thinks if she tries hard enough to "teach" him how to be better, he'll simply... become better. But it doesn't work like that because Sentinel is his own autonomous being who won't bend to her will now matter how genuine White is about making him a better bot.

So when Sentinel continues to be an ass despite all the work White puts in, she gets frustrated, then upset, then defeated. She laments why she can't get through to him and that if she were better, Sentinel would become good. She believes if she wills it hard enough via choosing the right words or pressing the correct buttons, Sentinel won't be the asshole we all know him to be. But no sentient being works like that.

She doesn't understand that Sentinel has his own motivations and personal stuff going on that drives him to act in ways and do things she would never even think to do. No amount of advice and pep talks from her will ever be enough to change him. So when he does do shitty things, she blames herself for not being good enough.

Hey you're like the only mcyt blogger I follow and I genuinely am not into any of that stuff so can you PLEASE explain what the fuck is going on?

first of all, it is crazy to me that i am somehow anyone's only mcyt lmao

I will not go into a lot of details with explanation because it's actually worth like several hours essay video at this point, but as short as i can:

Dream is a minecraft youtuber, mainly known for manhunt series and creating the server Dream SMP. In recent, like, 2(?) years he has been in controversy after controversy, where he was revealed to genuinely be not a good person, very manipulative with his friends and his viewers (<- whixh is why he still has a huge cult-like fan base defending him like their life depends on it). Due to that he's been basically dropped by a lot of other content creators, like Tommy and Tubbo.

Tommy and Tubbo were both part of the Dream SMP and worked closely with Dream in the past. Tommy also looked up to Dream as a mentor and they used to have hours long calls about yt. Tommy was 16-18 at the time. Dream was 21-23.

Recently Tommy started speaking up about all the adults that were not good role models to him during that age, mainly joking about it or on his podcast. Dream was one of those adults.

Now, the most recent drama started because Tommy was having a twitter beef with OTHER creators that had NOTHING to do with Dream, and Dream popped up with a meme that was basically calling Tommy's whole 15million audience an r-slur. Like, he used that slur.

That started a backlash, multiple people were rightfully going What The Fuck. Tubbo was one of those people, starting one of his streams by talking about it. It was like and hour and something long.

That night (for Europe) Dream went on and made a 3 hours long stream talking about all the dramas he has ever had in a completely infuriating way and misconstrued some of Tubbo's words he said during his stream to make it seem like Tubbo was also against Tommy and stuff.

Tubbo then proceeded to react to this 3 hours stream in a 6 hours vod. Being genuinely baffled by a lot pf stuff. During that stream Tommy posted a five minutes video where he addressed Dream. I recommend just watching it, it's very short.

Dream was actually supposed to come on Tubbo's stream and discuss stuff on call, because Tubbo in general had been very generous at how much benefit of the doubt he was giving Dream, trying to be as fair as possible. Dream backed out, because he started working on a response video to Tommy.

That video is 10 minutes long. It is full of blatant lies and misinformation plus a lot of editing choices specifically made to make you feel for Dream and look at Tommy as just some annoying clown (<- mainly music). Misinformation and lies included stuff like cropping out private messages to use them as proof for otherwise not just unbased but disproved statements, using screenshots of invoices that in fact did not relate to the situation Dream was describing and were paid BY TUBBO for a COMPLETELY UNRELATED THING.

Tubbo is now reacting to that.

I hope this is informative enough, there is genuinely so much going on, I did not mention like 85% of it.
