I imagine the way they start out is for very selfish, self-serving reasons (even if WD genuinely believes she is doing Sentinel good by "fixing" him).

I'd imagine Sentinel clocks this part of her and plays into it by putting on a sob story about how difficult it is to rule over his kingdom and how he needs, craves someone who... understands him. Ya know, trying to draw in her new found empathy.

But then White Diamond uses her almost supernatural intuition and at some points hits Sentinel way too close to home, so he tries to shut her down before she can dig any deeper. Emphasis on tries. When WD strikes gold, she keeps on digging.

Their relationship could evolve into something deeper (as deep as any relationship between two rulers with massive egos could be), but at the start at least, it'll be very tumultuous and toxic. Mutual frustration ahead as they try to take control without any regard for the others' feelings. How fun!

The only way this relationship would ever be possible is if this took place post-SU finale where White Diamond takes up the hobby of fixing the self-esteem and self-worth of others. She's trying her best for Steven's sake, but she went through the tiktok psychology rabbit hole, so she decided she was an expert in all things relationships.

Low and behold when a concerned Steven or (more likely) the other Diamonds try to convince her to step away from the bot riddled with more red flags than a beach recently categorized as high hazard, they fail to get through to her. Sadly, when she became open to the possibility of other colors, red just so happened to be the one she took a liking to the most. And blue and gold.

As for Sentinel, that man at the height of his power had enough zeros in his bank account to give someone trypophobia. His diva ass was always gonna try to seek out a gem fit for a king. It just so happened that the gem is the size of a small house attached to an 80 to 90 ft former dictator now wannabe therapist. Airachnid would definitely encourage Sentinel to pursue her, not because she thinks they'd work out. Just because she finds the potential drama they’ll create hilarious and entertaining.
