mdzs headcanon of the day #333 ! based on what i’ve seen so far on the poll (which i will reblog so people who haven’t had a chance to vote can !), the juniors are the most popular as of rn !

out of all the juniors, jingyi is the only one who can (surprisingly) hold his alcohol (which is funny, because he’s a lan). however, he is always the designated driver because he does not trust any of the others (jin ling cannot survive without gps, sizhui only goes the speed limit, if not lower, and ouyang zizhen can NOT park)

jin ling’s true power is actually stored in his ponytail, he just hasn’t figured out how to harness its full potential yet but he’s damn well gonna start by using it to smack lan jingyi in the face every chance he gets

lan jingyi: would probably cry, have an anxiety attack or both, if someone told him to keep a secret, probably end up fainting due to hyperventilating

It’s kind of funny to think that the juniors would probably have a crush on Jin lings uncle in secret and behind his back they’re all arguing

Juniors next door, battlestation!

The four defeated warriors gasped for breaths. Lan JingYi burped like a bloated manatee, but the rest were too exhausted to react any further than to scrunch their faces in disgust. Jin Ling was hunched under the makeshift wobbly desk, nursing a bruised shin. He wasn't sure whether it was one of the fearsome Yiling Laozu's missiles or a wayward kick from his fellow juniors. Sizhui was sprawled on the rug, eyes vacant, seemingly oblivious to the rabbit desperately trying to chew on the hem of his t-shirt. Ouyang Zizhen was groaning from the couch, clutching on to his belly. Finally, SiZhui broke the silence, "We lost! After all that new battlegears and simulation practice, we still lost."

JingYi couldn't help feeling sorry for their leader. "We did our best. But we are talking about the Yiling Laozu here."

"He made me eat the liver. And onions. I can still taste it in my mouth." Zizhen wailed.

"Rat bustard!" Jin Ling emphasised.

SiZhui suddenly sat up. The rabbit was sent flying and landed on a cushion where it promptly started to chew on the tussels.

"We are not going to give up. We are the only hope of children everywhere to stand up against adult tyranny. Eat veggies for dinner? What next? Do we have to brush our teeth? Do summer homework? Should we live our lives under the shadows of villainous adults? No! Jin Ling, traps! Make sure they can't climb up the ladder so easily next time. Lan JingYi! Rabbit catapults! Ouyang Zizhen! Stock up on soda and candy. We are going all out!"

The Juniors roared in agreements and started scrambling.

"How were they?" Lan Wangji peered over his reading glasses. His husband was looking worse for wear and was conspicuously missing a slipper.

"Stupid! Stuuuuuuupid! Put a stu in the front and end it with a pid! That's how they were. I swear since they got that tree house, they have become insufferable! We should just let them stay up there and forget about it."

Lan Wangji gently shook his head. "Can't let kids starve over the summer holidays. Bad parenting."

"Says who?" Wei Wuxian raised an eyebrow.

"Well, your sister and my brother and Mr Ouyang, for starter."

"Then they can climb up the bloody ladder while carrying 4 plates!"

Lan Wangji nodded sympathetically. "How about this? We will ask Jiang Wanyin to get them to brush their teeth tonight."

A modern day sitcom of the junior squad living together as roommates now lives in my head rent free.

Guo Cheng is 5'11" (180cm) and Zheng Fanxing is 5'9" (175cm) and in some shots Jingyi and Sizhui look around the same height but in a few others I saw earlier today they somehow look like they have a six inch (15cm) height difference or more.

This got me thinking about personal headcanons for height and I think I've settled on the following for their teen (immediately post-wwx-resurrection) and adult (5-10 years later) heights:

Lan Jingyi: 5'10" (177cm) as a teen, got a last major growth spurt that had him bedridden and begging Sizhui to take a rolling pin to the backs of his legs, has stretch marks that look like whipping scars, wound up 6'3" (191cm)

Ouyang Zizhen: 5'9" (175cm) as a teen, didn't have another growth spurt but did continue growing slowly and steadily, wound up 5'11" (180cm)

Jin Ling: 5'3" (160cm) as a teen (remember, immediately post-wwx-resurrection he's 3 years younger than the others), shot up like a weed, faster than Zizhen but not as bad as Jingyi, wound up a respectably average 5'8" (173cm) but retained all the energy of a half-feral rabid chihuahua from being the shortest once upon a time and the youngest forever

Lan Sizhui: 5'4" (163cm) as both a teen and an adult, did not continue growing at all, partially due to malnourishment as a young child, partially due to genetics, portable-sized and the others enjoy picking him up for absolutely no reason at all, seen that post about the 30yo and the helpful flight attendant? Sizhui

I know people ignore this every time I say it, but I do not care if this is contradicted by canon/word of god/what have you. These headcanons spark joy for me and I'm sticking by them ymmv

And thus Lan Jingyi was co-opted into Zizhen's grand romantic story.

MDZS characters in a horror escape room

Wei WuXian: Dresses up to scare the scare actors but gets accidentally punched in the face by Nie Mingjue.

Lan Wangji: Actually works on solving the puzzle while keeping an eye on Wei Ying.

Lan Xichen: At first was solving the puzzle, but ended up getting distracted in trying to find Jin Guangyao to make sure that Nie Mingjue hasn't punched him yet.

Jiang Cheng: Is very guarded and threatens to break the legs of the scare actor that tried to spook Jin Ling.

Jin Ling: Just rolls his eyes at the scare actor and walks away which makes Jiang Cheng yell at him to come back and stay close.

Nie Huaisang: Has already figured out the puzzle but is enjoying watching the shenanigans around him while pretending to be scared shitless to stall them.

Nie Mingjue: Punches anything that jumps out of the dark including an unfortunate demonic cultivatior.

Xue Yang: What the fuck is he even doing here???? He didn't pay to be here, man just snuck inside with them.

Xiao Xingchen: Was told by A-Qing about Xue Yang's whereabouts and already paid for all of their entries and apologized for the break-in. He also keeps A-Qing safe.

A-Qing: Snitched on Xue Yang so she could go to the escape room too. She pretended to be scared so Xiao Xingchen would help her figure out the puzzle.

Song Lan: Is running around the shopping mall looking for Xiao Xingchen.

Lan Sizhui: Stays calm and smiles at the scare actors. Tries to assist Lan Wangji.

Lan Jingyi: Doesn't react to the scare actors but generates a high-pitched, ear-piercing scream the second Ouyang brushes against him.

Ouyang Zizhen: Nervously wanders around with the juniors and accidentally discovers a big clue.

Jin Guangyao: Actually paid Xue Yang to sneak in the escape room to sabotage Nie Mingjue and get him kicked out.

Nie Huaisang (again): Actually only came in the first time to sabotage Jin Guangyao's sabotage while enjoying himself.

Wen Ning: Follows the juniors to make sure they're safe and accidentally scares off all the scare actors around them.

Wen Qing: She tried to help Wei WuXian at first but he jumpscared her so now she's solving the puzzle on her own.

Read the latest chapter and currently screaming about it because THE REUNION?!?! I DIDN’T EXPECT THAT FOR ANOTHER FEW CHAPTERS AT LEAST. (Imagine the sounds of an excited keyboard smash irl and that was my reaction to the end of that chapter)

Oh I can’t wait to see the juniors and LWJ interact with a very traumatized Wwx. Especially as Wwx is *not* in a good place rn and his senses are probably very easily overwhelmed and/or not working. Possibly some difficulties speaking/seeing in the near future?? I beg for a nice scene in the bunny field. Please. I also can’t wait to see Jin Ling have some very mixed feelings about wu ming being Wwx. On one hand, childhood best friend. On the other, man who killed your parents (on accident). That’ll be *fun* to unpack.

I can't keep sobbing this violently, my parents are getting highly worried about why I just keep breaking down. What a lovely thing to wake up to, I'm absolutely losing my whole goddamn mind. And HAHA, GOOD!!! There's only so much angst I can write about before I let them find one another and write...a..different....kind of angst.... I SWEAR I WILL WRITE FLUFF. I CAN WRITE IT. I SWEAR. I just really like beating Wei Wuxian up in every way possible (/j).. Now that we've entered the next stage of Losing Hope, I can't wait for you guys to see the effects of all the trauma I've dropped onto him. It's going to be really wholesome and sweet and he'll never ever be hurt ever again [Said with ALL of the sarcasm possible in the world]. Oh, and Jin Ling is going to have so much to think about when he finds out, and I for one cannot wait to write about it - I've got a whole so much to say and a while to wait to say it!!! There is one light in the darkness of all the angst swinging our way: half of the Junior Quartet!!! You don't know how excited I am to write about these little guys interacting with Wei Wuxian, and just interacting with people in general! I swear to god, they'll bring on some fluffy moments, you have to believe me. I'm madly in love with you, and I thank you so so much for sending me this because now I'll never be able to think that people don't care about my work while this is around. I woke up to this and now I've been staring at the screen for the past fifteen minutes because IT'S SO SWEET.

You cannot tell me that when Lan Sizhui improves his guqin language, he wouldn’t be out using inquiry every damn day to talk to spirits and make little ghost friends.

The minute that boy knows how to have full conversations via guqin, he’s gonna know every spirit in Gusu on a personal level and casually bring them up in conversation with the other juniors.

LJY: “These loquats are sooooo goooood!”

LSZ: “Right? Reminds me of A-Liu, he loves loquats”

LJY: “….Who the hell is A-Liu?”

LSZ: “Hm? Oh, he’s the spirit who likes to visit the cold springs.”

LJY: “The… the cold springs? How often is he there?”

LSZ: “Um, I don’t know? A lot? Whenever he wants to be there, I guess”

Lan Jingyi has the Lan ‘cannot handle caffeine’ gene but drinks cappuccinos anyway. He’s determined he can build up a tolerance. He cannot.

Lan Sizhui doesn’t have the Lan ‘cannot handle caffeine’ gene but still can’t handle it well because he rarely drinks it due to growing up in a non-coffee household, and doesn’t really like the taste anyway.

Ouyang Zizhen would love to try one of the elaborate drinks he sees online but is too embarrassed by the idea of inconveniencing the staff, so he normally just has an iced coffee with three sugars.

Jin Ling likes hot chocolate but he thinks that makes him a baby so he orders mochas and tries to pretend the taste of coffee doesn’t ruin it.
