Goodbye to The Mysterious Benedict Society (2021 - 2022) - The Morning After
youtube
The Mysterious Benedict Society has been cancelled. Disney did not renew it for a third season. The book series is my all time favorite, and I am so sad that we won't get to see the tv series reach its proper end. Thank you for two wonderful years 💜

ok i promise i don't make everything about my blorbo but like. i am thinking about the "carrying a bird" exchange and mr benedict. "how did it feel to come down here and discuss this with me?" "...terrible, sir." "and yet you did it because you had to. do you know what that's called?" "...carrying a bird?" "leadership."
like. mr benedict defining leadership as doing what you have to, even when it hurts, even when it feels awful. doing it for the sake of others. bearing the burden. mr benedict, despite everything, mr. the leader of their little gang. bearing the burden. doing it because someone must. because he must.
#and all BEFORE he feels he must bear the responsibility of his brother's actions#for ten years consistently choosing to do what he must#even though he could so easily walk away#could so easily stop fighting#say it wasn't his problem wasn't his fight#but no. someone must. someone must#nicholas benedict#the mysterious benedict society#mbs disney#also thinking about excalibur again. take me up. cast me away

So this may be specifically funny to me but the main difference in my experience of reading @mangobaii-daily last year and reading it again this year is that now I like. Actually Know people who work in Disneyland California. specifically as performers and I know for a fact that they only got in because they've been taking dance lessons since childhood and had years of highschool musical theater experience. and even then theyre not character/mascot actors (which i imagine would have even higher standards considering you're performing in a sweaty suit and representing a character of a corporation that has Standards and a Reputation to uphold) so actually how the Fuck did mb!dream land that job as goofy. like that isnt some fucking chuck e cheese fast food mascot that the manager of the store wears for birthdays like that shit is fucking DISNEYLAND and requires at Least an audition and resume. so what I'm saying is does mb!dream actually have an insane background in performing arts. did he suck the casting director's dick for that job. was there nepotism involved. was mb!george's insane ramblings actually correct and mb!dream is actually the physical manifestation of Goofy in a human being and whoever oversaw his audition was so blown away they immediately knew he was perfect for the role??? like actually how the FUCK did mb!dream get casted as beloved popular disney character GOOFY???
#mangoball#mangobaii#mcyt#maige's posts#maige's ramblings#<- yeah the ramblings of a mentally ill person thats for sure#'its not that deep' its really not and im fully aware that im looking way too into a satire crack fic but like.#its just funny to me ok. also i like flexing that i went to school with ppl who perform at disneyland.#anyways obligatory this is abt mangoball not the ccs if you support them im blocking anyways bye-

The Disney Showman (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
Nostalgia can be a powerful force. The Greatest Showman portrays P.T. Barnum as a dreamer who wanted to entertain people above all else. There is a very similar air to the general perception of Walt Disney. Both men were, of course, much more complicated than their public personas, but the parallels were too strong for the PattyCake guys to resist. Especially since both Tony and Layne had worked at Disney World, performed on Disney cruises, and collaborated on projects with the company at large. So combining the Showman music with a visual retrospective of Walt's life was a perfect fit.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — The Disney Showman
performers: D.J. Muto, Paul Kaleka, & James Keaton (Walt Disney); Eli Jacobson (Roy Disney / featured vocals); Jonathan Timpanelli & Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie (Robert & Richard Sherman); Olivia Adkins (Snow White model); Amy Garton (Julie Andrews); Isabella Muto (Shirley Temple); Jacob McAlister, David Kotary, James Berkley, Domenic Servidio, Chadd Winston, & Eduardo Marques de Oliveria (animators); Alexander Browne (animator / Mouseketeer); Rachel Copeland Evans, Gizelle Pagan, & Darlene Chudinski Henry (Mouseketeers); Brad Pettit (Mouseketeer / chimney sweep); Jason Tibbs, Michael Rundy, Matt Hudson (chimney sweeps); Lauriel Marques de Oliveria, Grace Flaherty, & Sonia Roman (inkers & painters); Hannah Laird, Tony Wakim, Layne Stein, & Lilly Kolb (featured vocals)
original songs / performers: "Rewrite the Stars", "A Million Dreams", & "Come Alive" by the cast of The Greatest Showman (2017); "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" by James Baskett in Song of the South (1946); "I Got No Strings" by Dickie Jones in Pinocchio (1940); "You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" by Bobby Driscoll, the cast of Peter Pan (1953), & The Jud Conlon Chorus; "Mickey Mouse Club March" by the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club (1955)
written by: "Rewrite the Stars", "A Million Dreams", & "Come Alive" by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul; "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" by Allie Wrubel & Ray Gilbert; "I Got No Strings" by Leigh Harline & Ned Washington; "You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" by Sammy Cahn & Sammy Fain; "Mickey Mouse Club March" by Jimmie Dodd
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 2 March 2018
My favorite bits:
combining the Disney fanfare with instrumentation from "Rewrite the Stars"
young Walt sketching Oswald the rabbit, followed by adult Walt creating Mortimer Mickey Mouse
the newspaper headline noting that Disney's first studio failed at the start of "Come Alive"
those extremely perky Mouseketeers
Tony and Layne doing their best faux-Cockney accents for the chimney sweeps' vocals
showing footage from the actual parks
elder Walt coughing as he walks away, a somber sign of the lung cancer that took his life
returning to young Walt still dreaming of ♫ "the world I'm gonna make" ♫ that we've just seen
Trivia:
The actors playing young Walt Disney and Shirley Temple are siblings.
James is yet another of Tony's fellow alumni from the "Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue" show at Universal Studios, having played BJ himself for many years.
The subtle special effects makeup that transformed James into Walt was created by Andy Wright at Makeup and Creative Arts, and was applied by Rick Underwood.
This video was filmed on location at the MBS Equipment Company warehouse space in Orlando, using some of their lighting equipment. There is also additional footage from both Disneyland and Disney World.
PattyCake garnered some praise from several of their fellow former theme park cast members in the YouTube comments for both the accuracy of the behind-the-scenes imagery and the celebration of the Disney legacy.
As they did with their "La La Land" video, PattyCake highlighted their attention to detail with a series of "Double Take" posts on social media, comparing shots from the video with the iconic moments they had recreated.
As a bonus, the thumbnail for the video itself is a recreation of a photo of Disney that was also used as the cover art for PBS's episode of American Experience about him.

Disney Channel’s Missed Opportunity
So it’s now been almost 2 months since Mysterious Benedict Society was cancelled.
The end of this month, Disney Channel is premiering the 3rd season of Secrets of Sulphur Springs which has a, imo, very similar tone and look, both being TV-PG single camera young ensemble cast mystery adventure shows.
When MBS S2 was airing, they had a weird Tuesday Disney Channel premiere in order for a Disney+ premiere after on Wednesday
What I think would have been a better idea would have been to create a Friday “Mystery Block” and pair up these 2 shows back to back then put the episodes on Disney+ Saturday, which could have given MBS more views, then a random Tuesday night.
Edited addition: Even Disney+ itself knows it’s similarites as the shows are the first in the suggested tab for the other one...

Here’s the article where the creators of the show talk about working with TLS :)
what are your thoughts on the disney+ adaptation? I'm sending this on June 17th, so it comes out in about a week!!
I’m cautiously excited.
So far I haven’t seen anything that’s made me think I’m not going to like it. There are a few relatively minor things that I’ve noticed that bug me, but from what we’ve seen so far from the trailers and the short clips that we’ve gotten, it seems like aside from a few things the plot seem to be very close to that of the book. That being said, these books and characters are very important to me. MBS has been my comfort book/series since it was first released when I was the same age as the society, and I have reread the series a truly embarrassing number of times. I know that I am going to have to force myself to get over a lot of the changes that I know have to be made in order to adapt a series for tv.
A lot of my initial misgivings had come from the fact that I didn’t think that Trenton Lee Stewart was involved with the show, but as @personinthepalace has found out, he was actually a consulting producer. That makes me feel fairly optimistic that the show will honor the books the way that they deserve to be. Release day is getting close, so we’ll find out soon enough I guess!
#thanks for mentioning me!#personally I am most concerned about curtain and sq#with curtain it looks like they got rid of his wheelchair and glasses so how does he stay in ‘control’??#with sq I fear that the show got rid of him altogether#there is no casting announcement about him anywhere#and like how can they get rid of sq?!?#but other than that I have high hopes for the show#mbs disney#the mysterious benedict society#mysterious benedict society#mbs disney thoughts#mbs tv series#trenton lee stewart

Coming Attractions November 2023
As usual, we present monthly previews of new movies being released. These are the movies that will be hitting your local cinemas (and streaming services) this month:
November 5th
The Marsh King's Daughter - Based on a novel of the same name comes this psychological thriller starring Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn, and Garrett Hedlund.
Priscilla - Sophia Coppola's biopic based on Priscilla Presley's 1985 memoir expands into wide release this week.
Quiz Lady - Awkwafina and Dandra Oh lead this comedy film coming to Hulu this month. Jason Schwartzman, Tony Hale, and Will Ferrell round out the cast.
What Happens Later - Meg Ryan directs and stars in (and co-wrote the screenplay) this romantic comedy alongside David Duchovny.
November 10th
The Marvels - Marvel Studios is back with this sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel (and 2021's WandaVision and 2022's Ms. Marvel) which features the team-up of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan.
November 17th
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes - Return to Panem with this prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy (yes, I know there are four movies).
Trolls Band Together - Hey look! The Trolls are back. Again.
Next Goal Wins - Taika Waititi directs this sports comedy-drama based on a documentary of the same name about the American Samoa national football (soccer) team.
Thanksgiving - After being teased (mockingly) in a faux-trailer during 2007's Grindhouse, Eli Roth's Thanksgiving slasher film is finally a reality.
Saltburn - From writer/director Emerald Fennell comes this psychological drama starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, and Richard E. Grant. The film expands to wide release on November 22nd.
May December - Coming to Netflix is Todd Haynes' new black comedy-drama starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore.
November 22nd
Wish - Disney's newest animated film features the voices of Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, and Alan Tudyk. Wish is being positioned as the crown jewel of Disney's 100th anniversary.
Napoleon - Ridley Scott directs Joaquin Phoenix as the titular leader in this historical epic.
Good Burger 2 - Dexter and Ed are back in this sequel coming only to Paramount+. Yes, I am excited.
Now for a quick look ahead to December my top picks for next month are Wonka, Ferrari, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
