I will die on the hill that Epic’s message ISN’T “ruthlessness is the answer” but the exact opposite: there are other ways.

Every single monster Odysseus faced had the chance to be merciful. Even Poseidon—especially Poseidon. He was so sure ruthlessness was the answer, he didn’t realize in doing so he was damning himself. Because a man does not become a monster when he chooses ruthlessness; he becomes a monster when he is faced with ruthlessness.

That’s what makes a tragedy. There could have been another way.

We will all meet monsters in our life that are ruthless. And we will have to be ruthless in kind to surpass them. But you might as well try your hand at kindness, first; who knows, maybe the God in your way isn’t Poseidon, but Circe.

And maybe one day the world will need ruthlessness no more.

#in anticipation of the incoming remake #i tried my best to imitate the SH font but #silent hill #silent hill 2 #angela #angela orosco #theme of laura (reprise)#i've said it before but in spite of its occasionally clunky diction i think silent hill 2 is an unusually emotionally intelligent game #for any year and still today but especially so for where gaming storytelling was in 2001 #and for as many pitfalls a story like hers could've dipped into i think it particularly shines through with how they treated angela #not just choosing to depict victimhood as something that can be ugly and fractious and open quote “difficult” but then this #actively rebuffing james for trying to offer hope and dressing him down for it too #“i know you mean well and want to help but this isn't a simple problem"#“and it's really hurtful and a bit insulting that you act like you can”#the switching to a first person view turning it into an address to the player as well #maybe even old videogame tropes too #“this isn't some princess in a castle kind of situation dude this is more serious than that”#it felt like a very deliberate statement about the depth and severity of a trauma like this #and in doing so showing it so much respect #there is no quick easy solution to this and you won't get one #then angela just leaves #and you never see her again #i really don't think it was to imply that it consumed her i think it was to underline what was just said #this isn't your problem to fix #this is where your part in this story ends #there's some strength in that

So does anybody else ever think about how Loop felt the need to demonstrate that the party's deaths wouldn't have any effect on the loops. I know I do but that's besides the point. Anyway I don't think Loop actually needs to bathe, they just like to feel included.

Her being kind to him in light of him knowing this #Catapulting his mind back to the person 'he used to be' and how hard he has tried to shake that choice he made all those years ago.#How hard he has tried to redeem all of that for it to come crashing back in the form of his rookie who was trying to protect him.#Because she's supposed to be different from him. She's supposed to be better. And he's mad at her for making the same choice.#But he's also mad at himself. Because he's supposed to be better and he's supposed to be different now.#Even though he isn't all that different. He was falsifying reports to protect Isabel.#He's supposed to be training her to be better and she made the same choice he made.#So his course of action is to rev up the training some more. Maybe he was too soft and lenient with her towards the end of s1 #and he lost sight of his training methods and how rules matter.#but he also lowered his walls and was vulnerable with her. He let her in.#And he's going to keep letting her in despite how much he tries to resist.#with every act of kindness she shows him... the walls break down and soften a little #until all that remains is Tim's unwavering tenderness for Lucy.#that only seems to grow more in her presence and influence.

it’s kinda funny to me how that dumb scene in kiwami 1 of majima getting shot and left for dead in the harbor was basically just added as a half-assed way to explain majima not being around for a bit of the plot, but they accidentally(?) just made it seem like start of a chain reaction where majima ended up feeling slighted and heartbroken after being abandoned like that and then lashed out about it via smashing a big truck into the building kiryu was in. and yeah that isn’t inherently a romantic thing as-is but then they go and add the part where majima grabs a hostess and performatively hits on her as in-kiryu’s-face as possible, she says she’s already in love with someone, and majima lets her go immediately, no questions asked, making a big fucking point of it just to say see THAT kiryu? I appreciate when people are HONEST about their FEELINGS. people who won’t just BACKSTAB someone who CARES about them to save themselves. is that so crazy kiryu?? huh??? anyway make it up to me get down here and fight me right fucking now

I love how Poseidon’s lesson about ruthlessness turned from something he was imposing to something he was trapped in.

When Odysseus says, “we’re both suffering, why not leave this here?” he doesn’t say “I won’t,” he says “I can’t.”

I wish in six hundred strike Ody would have used the line “the next time that you dare choose not to spare” or any callback to “remember them” because it would have been such a good loop. Such a good way to say to Poseidon that there could have been another way. But instead, he’s stuck here of his own doing, with this monster of his own making, being tortured over and over again. Because ruthlessness isn’t mercy. It’s damnation.

should i change my headcanons based upon “i saw it in a dream”

#as far as witcher dreams go this one was extremely mid as i actually woke up from it by going ‘but that doesn’t make any sense’#and i should have done that several times earlier #triss dragging geralt onto this cursed ass cruise ship by feigning illness and then lightly crying about it was the most in character thing #the thing is that in the dream the events of it were being presented ‘to me’ as ‘canon’#as in this was a new book or something a la crossroads so this is part of the lore now #so the thing was that geralt had another company in his 20s but they all died/were cursed/some insanity #one of them (and i only remember this bc it was terrifying for some reason) was turned into a tomcat and they couldnt figure out #how to change him back so they left him with other people and came back like 10 years later #it was like he forgot human life and was also a really old cat so they just allowed him to die as a cat #the other ones were not that interesting i think one was a postmaster who did fisstech and the other was a young mentally deficient girl #who had some powers/was a Source but she got betrayed when triss (yes triss was here) basically abducted geralt #and she took him on a cruise ship and then the game vampires (yeah so this is when i was like ‘what’) showed up #i guess they lived on or were haunting this cruise ship #actually was pretty cool because i got ‘POV lady orianna drinks your blood’ i’m OK with that #however regis and dettlaff showed up and immediately started acting like a monty python sketch or something #they kinda entered swaggeringly to start drinking people and #regis was like ‘ok you go around that side of the room and i’ll go around this side and we’ll take a survey’#and dettlaff was like ‘why drink from all of them to judge the taste just take a few … ‘samples’’#and regis went ‘ohhhhhhhh’ and they had this loud conversation in front of a room of terrified humans #and the dream ended with me basically pausing it and arguing to some other people that this can’t happen because so and so #and i started trying to pull examples/quotes about it #this is the most embarassing and unhinged dream i have had about the witcher i’m going to go hide in a hole now #usually my dreams are some semblance of canon or at least what i like and prefer #dude. regis showed up at the end but his game design. and his outfits were ugly 😭😭😭#the elbow-high diaries #oh but the ONE thing that was kind of cool was seeing how vampires are created #they fall from the sky in stormy weather and are invisible to the human eye and then if they come across another they scream them to death #or not death but dissipation and then they absorb the defeated one’s?? traits or whatever #i kind of like my current idea better but maybe this for like a subset of them or something

I still can't get over the Circe Saga.

Hermes gives Odysseus a tool to even the playing field. He anticipates and encourages Odysseus to overpower her on a physical, magical, and sexual level. He phrases this help as "us[ing] more than words." He wants Odysseus to give up speech and mercy as much as the other gods do.

But ultimately it's Odysseus's words that save him and his crew. It's him telling Circe about his faith to Penelope that convinces her to help him.

There are other ways of persuasion, indeed.

#Mmmmmmhhhh.#Well. If anything you can always tell when there's a ss/kk episode by the fact that it takes me two hours to watch it lol #What can I say. I'm a compulsive screencap taker #Mmmmmmhhh... I was right it wasn't as bad as I remembered it. Still moderately bad but not all bad.#It's just. I can feel the animators did their best.#I suppose it's just a difficult episode to animate within a short time frame since it's a specifically action packed one.#And the lack of time really shows. Like there *are* some detailed animated passages here and there. But then there's also these long static #shots that stretch on forever that are just... Idk. A little saddening to see I guess? Like the animators really ran out of time for them #There's also a big component of... I just can't vibe with the newfound artstyle. Like it looks soooo much worse than s1 in my opinion #Which you know‚ is only subjective! But eh... The distance between s2ep11 and this feels abyssal.#Everyone looks so ugly oftentimes. Like even in curated shots‚ they're just very rough and ungraceful.#Which like?? How could you look at Harukawa's art and come up with //that//??????? #alright new update that no one asked for #ive been promoted! kind of #theyre having me be the acting manager for 3 months to see how i perform #which means im not getting a raise lol #but in 3 months theyre supposed to follow up and maybe make it permanent #they didnt guarantee #so thats good news #but also thats the same thing they told our last housekeeping manager when she started and so she worked as a mamager for starting pay #and they kept just extending the trial period for a year until she threatened to quit #and then they finally gave her the correct pay #so my advisors are telling me to ger the agreement in writing for my own protection #didnt ger the chance to today its been a shit show #but ill talk to the gm later

I love when they casually reveal that Spinel hasn't stopped tracking the main trio once in this arc.. retroactively makes some of the past lighthearted episodes of this arc have a worrying edge to it, because you just end up wondering how long he's been watching, or if he was already watching at that point etc.

He is also even apparently keeping an eye on the Brave Asagi being repaired. He followed Friede around without his knowledge a while ago too. He just knows everything, and could act but just doesn't strike until the time is right.

I wonder if he is the one orchestrating Liko being separated from Roy and Dot in HZ064. The preview mentions that she is separated from them. And next ep will be exactly fifty episodes after HZ014, which was also when Spinel lured Liko away from the RVT to steal her pendant. He used her kindness against her by sending a fake ad about that one spice Murdock wanted. He spied on their conversation in that episode and used that bit of dialogue against Liko because he knew she would be exactly the type to want to go get that spice because it would make Murdock happy. Maybe he is creating some kind of diversion to separate Liko from her friends in the next episode. It wouldn't be the first time he messed with people's phones or other devices.

something that's been weighing on my mind ever since learning about the situation with ezra / toonimal is seeing how these predators will take the active hostility that is frequently directed towards minors in online spaces to their advantage and use it to prey on vulnerable children. i think that we as adults in online fandom should probably come together and maybe rethink the language / manner we go about interacting with kids bc clearly the way things are rn is causing active harm.

like obviously, if you're an adult and aren't comfortable with minors interacting with you or your content, you should be allowed to set that boundary and should be vocal about it, ( especially if the content you create isn't safe for them to consume. ) but i don't think talking to them like they're a blight on all that is good and holy is the way to go about it. maybe just saying you're an 18 plus account will suffice, you don't have to tell them to fuck off.

#i'm opening myself up for ppl to leave the stupidest takes on this post but whatever i need to get this off my mind #before anyone says anything about the kids on that website. they're grooming victims. they're literally kids being taken advantage of #show them some fucking kindness and be understanding that they're the victims in this situation #idk what it is about becoming an adult that causes so many ppl to lose their empathy towards minors it's weird #like yeah kids can be annoying and pushy on online spaces sometimes but a lot of them are old enough to know online etiquette lbr #alot of us were annoying kids on the internet at some point we should understand that you don't just. get a handbook for how to act online #that's shit you learn overtime but ppl seem to forget that #they also seem to forget that talking down to kids isn't gonna teach them shit they're not gonna listen to you if you treat them like idiots #what i'm trying to say is that we really need to talk to minors more respectfully and maybe give them a little grace #( obviously there will be situations where some of them need to be yanked up by the collar but there's ways to go about that >>>#without treating them like shit )#these kids need to know that there's spaces for them to be online safely without having to stumble into places that'll pray on them #we all know how much it sucked to be a kid online we should want better for the ones coming in after us ya know #sorry if this comes across as preachy it just breaks my heart and boils me blood to see kids being taken advantage of like this #especially when there's ways to prevent it idk #how do i even tag this....#mj.txt #there's trigger warning on the linked post btw #tw csa mention

#tag rant warning. expand with caution #i don’t even know what the main point would be necessarily. besides me pointing and going ‘these 2 are NOT normal about each other’#but honestly that’s kind of what i need #i just need to pick them apart. i need to explain in excruciating detail how they act so i can articulate why it makes me lose my mind #and if anyone is wondering. i will now admit in the tags this post is about m.inecraft rp. life s.eries e.thubs specifically #<-sorry for annoying censoring i don’t want this to show up in main tags #i blame w.ild life honestly. came out right when i was getting back into that side of m.cyt. eth.ubs teamed together #and it reminded me i am in fact insane. and then i decided to rewatch bd.ubs l.ast life #and then the same hyperfixation demon that gripped me in 2021 reawakened and grabbed me by the throat #AND THEN. i decide to watch l.imlife and s.ecret life bc i had drifted from the fandom when they came out #and that has only served to make me so much worse #what was in the WATER in l.imited life #cleo’s ‘why can’t you be normal about etho!’ haunts me everyday. why Can’t he be normal about etho #clockers in general drives me insane actually. but i will not get into that here #this tag rant has been entirely too long. but now maybe you understand the essay thing #like one of the reasons i didn’t want to go back to school after i graduated community college was bc i was sick of writing essays #and here i am. sitting here like ‘what if i rewatched both their l.ife series povs in chronological order and took detailed notes #so that i can write some kind of essay. or make a clip compilation. or make a dramatic comic. haven’t even mentioned those yet #bc those are also ideas floating around in my mind #or maybe i will do none of these things and go back to writing unfinished fanfiction and making unfinished art and posting none of it #only time will tell #moss.txt

biggest fear for kiwami 3 is them retconning mines love for daigo (unlikely but it’s possible) or like something along the lines of that…. the minedai erasure would make me end it all

SUREST doubt of my life: even if you didn't want to interpret it as romantic, mine's love for daigo is an essential part to his character and motivation in y3. they coudnt erase mine's love without redoing his character

BIG change #mine acts out because The One Good Thing in his life was taken- or he believed anyway #even if the dialogue was changed erm. his actions speak for themselves LOL like as long ashe says daigo was important then. yk.#even if mine doesn't say the word 'love' anymore but he still relays the same motivations to kiryu the message'll still be there #it's just that people would prob be more ardent on denying mine has deeper feelings #but at this point i think the majority of the fandom- even Reddit Dudes- accept that mine's AT LEAST A BIT zesty towards daigo #plus i dont think rgg really has done. any major script rewrites for remakes and remasters ??i dont think ???#maybe vocab changing and rephrasing but not outright change the message/sentiment #so we're fine #also why the hell did tumblr log me out while i was trying to answer the last two asks. stop trying to stop my truth #i have to remind people i still love mine.....
