I love how Poseidon’s lesson about ruthlessness turned from something he was imposing to something he was trapped in.
When Odysseus says, “we’re both suffering, why not leave this here?” he doesn’t say “I won’t,” he says “I can’t.”
I wish in six hundred strike Ody would have used the line “the next time that you dare choose not to spare” or any callback to “remember them” because it would have been such a good loop. Such a good way to say to Poseidon that there could have been another way. But instead, he’s stuck here of his own doing, with this monster of his own making, being tortured over and over again. Because ruthlessness isn’t mercy. It’s damnation.
