Please stop publicly hating on fanfics. PLEASE!! Especially in a comment section of a video that’s about the fic or the fandom, because whether you’re aware of it or not, the author could have a social media account on that platform and see the hate. The hate on something they did for fun, for free. If you want more content then you have to stop hating. these authors aren’t celebrities they don’t have pr teams or people dealing with hate for them, they’re participants in fandom, and they’re real people.

Fanfics are not books, yes some are amazing enough to be, but you do not buy them, they’re provided to you for free. A fanfiction being popular is not like a book you bought sitting on your shelf, you should not feel obligated to read it because you spent money on it. Because you didn’t. it’s free. Fanfics no matter how popular should not be treated and reviewed like books, you do not get to publicly criticise or say “how are people buying this?!” Because they’re not. It’s free. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s overrated, it’s something someone did for fun, and you don’t get to criticise that, especially because it’s public for you to read!! Don’t be mad that something’s overrated, be glad that it was even up in the first place, someone could have easily just left it as a draft and never posted it, but they did. They decided to share this piece of themselves, to the fandom for anyone to read and that is a gift.

Ao3 is an uncensored website for fanfics, you can write about literally anything. And yet I see “no don’t read that fic it’s problematic!!” In a comment section. Fanfiction is not censored, if you want morals and every character being perfect and making the ‘right’ choices, then get off ao3. Also reminder that an author can write characters making decisions that they don’t agree with, for depth of the story. Just because your favourite character, that you see as the pinnacle of righteousness, makes a bad decision or says something mean does not make the story bad or problematic. It also doesn’t make the author agree with that decision. All the time authors of published books write about morally grey characters or villains. But when an ao3 author does it all of a sudden they must have committed the war crimes that they wrote their villain to commit. Do you realise how stupid that sounds?? 😭

Also don’t post vague negative videos about something/someone even if you don’t say who or what it’s about, it leads the comment section to gossip about who they hate and that’s just not cool. And tagging the fandom that they’re in??? 90% of the time they’re going to see that.

Public hate is not cool, if you don’t like someone, talk to you friends about it if you’re craving other peoples validation so badly. You don’t need to post something publicly. And I know hate gets more popular then love in fandom, no matter if it’s headcanons or fics or creators, but that doesn’t make it good. I don’t know why people are so negative all the time, like I don’t care what headcanons you hate, why do you even spend that much time thinking about something you hate?? I want to hear what headcanons you like, I want to know you fav characters, your kins, literally anything.

Sorry this is so long, it just pisses me off to see a fun video about fandom and then I open the comments and it’s filled with hate. This is a fandom, have fun with it!!! Please. 😭

James Potter should’ve died on a Saturday. Thrown across his cottage, slumped against a wall, his glasses cracked and askew on his face. He’d left his wand on the couch. It had been Peter at the door, so he figured he wouldn't need it. Who expects their childhood best friend to betray them?

He was okay with dying, and he had been for a while now. James would miss his friends, playing quidditch in the backyard with Sirius, cooking with Lily while Remus read to Harry…

Harry, oh his sweet little boy. James knew even when he died his son would be okay. He’d have his mother and his godparents, he would be safe.

James Potter was okay dying.

They say when you die the happiest seven minutes of your life replay in your mind. James closed his eyes, ready to accept that his time was up, but nothing happened.

No memories of pulling pranks as kids. No cheering crowds when he and Marlene won the quidditch cup in 5th year. No echoes of a room filled with laughter when he stumbled over Lily, dancing with her at the Yule Ball in 7th year. No late nights in the astronomy tower lying under the stars with the boy who loved him like the sun.

He heard a scream from upstairs and a flash of green light illuminated the house. Oh no, no no no no no. Not Lily, beautiful, smart, strong Lily. Harry’s mother, his best friend.

James didn't know how to live in a world without Lily Evans.

In their sixth year, they had started to grow closer, finding comfort in each other's company. They’d found trust in each other. Lily was the first person he came out to. She was the only one who knew about his relationship with Regulus. He and Lily were walking around the grounds when she told him about Mary. It was nice to know someone else understood how he felt.

When Regulus died, James had to hide his grief. No one else understood why he’d been distant and why his eyes were always red, but Lily did. The only place James could mourn was with her. When Mary left the war, ran away and married a muggle man, James had been the one to hold her. They’d found comfort in each other’s grief.

Everyone expected them to get together, he and Lily laughed along with the jokes but always denied when their friends asked. In some other world maybe James hadn't fallen in love with Regulus first, maybe Lily and Mary stayed friends. But James wouldn't change it, he and Lily had made their own little family and he wouldn't trade that for anything…

Something I’ve seen a lot recently, is people saying “why is that so popular, when this exists?”

And it makes me so annoyed.

The marauders fandom is like a mansion, it’s really fucking big, and that means you can go into whatever room you like. If you like jily, you can find a room where people are talking about jily!! I guarantee you that you’ll be much happier there, than if you were sitting outside the jegulus room and complaining about the amount of people in there.

There will also always be some people that sit outside the jily room and say that they think jegulus is better. You know what you can do? You can shut the door. You can block them.

(The metaphor means stay in the space where people enjoy what you want to hear about and block the people you don’t want to hear from, if you didn’t catch that.)

Fandom is a creative space, people are always going to be creating what they enjoy. Just because there aren’t that many people creating what you like, doesn’t mean you should diss what others are creating. Also no one’s going to want to create something about that if all you’re doing is complaining. Fandom is built off of ideas, people post headcanons or ideas they have and it inspires others to create something. If you want something, and it’s not there, then you’re going to have to give a little yourself. Stop posting about the fact that there isn’t that thing, and start posting about the thing!!!!

The addition or popularity of something, does not mean the subtraction of another thing. There’s no limit to fandom, there’s no limit to what you can create, so for the love of the marauders please stop acting like there is.

Feminine Sirius doesn’t mean all the content about masculine Sirius goes away, it still exists!!! You can still create about it, without mentioning the fact that you hate feminine Sirius, because all hating is doing, is making you look like you hate femininity. You don’t have to like something, you don’t even need a reason to dislike it, and you definitely don’t need to hate the opposite thing, to like something.

It’s fandom, it all comes down to what you enjoy interacting with. You don’t need a reason to find something fun, you don’t need a reason to ship anything, other than the fact you enjoy it. No one’s forcing you to interact with something or have an opinion on certain things. Just do what you enjoy. Please. Unless you enjoy hating, then make some hater friends and hate in private. Or get a diary.

Some people say “hitting post was unnecessary ☹️” in the comments of angsty tiktoks, but I fucking mean it. I mean it when I see a TikTok made literally just to hate. I mean it!!! Please think before you post. Please think about your tags. Please think about who might see it. Yes, fandom is freedom, yes, you can post what you want. But fandom is also a community, and being a community means being considerate to others feelings. You learn this in nursery!!! Come on guys!!! You don’t have to be friends with everyone, you don’t need to agree with everyone, there’s a block button for a reason, use it!!!

I don’t want to search up a fanfic, and see a video going “I didn’t finish this” because I did. That’s why I’m searching up content about it. Because I enjoyed it. And I don’t give a shit that you didn’t. I actually couldn’t care less that you thought it was boring, or you hated it. Because guess what?? I didn’t!! The algorithm can’t differentiate between hate and appreciation. You don’t need to post something publicly, and you definitely don’t need to name drop the fic. Okay so like yes I did say I was going to do a Regency Era fic but now I have a BETTER IDEA related to that I think......

What if it was a time travel au? Obviously they'll be in the Regency Era but the plot is that they're kinda agents of the time police who make sure time travel is being used safely and such. Then there can be enemies to lovers Dorlene and mysteries and it's easier to find a plot because I've been having a hard time finding a plot with the regency era fic besides Remus being depressed and in love..... what do y'all think?

i say this as a jily hater and "lily deserved better" advocate, but the existence of jegulus feels so misogynistic to me, lol. regulus didn't have any dialogue or personality other than "questionably repentant fach", and even rowling corroborates in interviews that he didn't do all that for the muggles, it was family attachment/protectiveness (what people judge about snape all the time, lol, "oh, he did it for lily! he didn't really change!" but when reggie does it it's cwute and he's a vwictim 🥺🥺🥺🥺). lily haunts the entire narrative way more than james himself did. it's her love that kept harry alive. it's snape's love for her that kept him acting steadily and loyally to the order, and until the very end. she's HEAVY important for the story, but the hotz yaoiz are more alluring i guess. two men with no personalities are more interesting i guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ i oppose to jegulus in the sense they could never be as good and interesting as her. i also support it because it keeps lily out of the equation as well.
