Acab applies to security guards too.
Okay, so there's two basic kinds of security: public and private
Public security is for government employees like police
Private security is stuff like security guards, bodyguards, and bouncers
As a security guard, you need to pass different licensing exams for different privileges. Someone who might handcuff people needs a license to carry handcuffs- someone who might need to carry a weapon needs a license for that weapon.
I passed my BST exam something like five years ago and stopped there, so I am allowed to carry: A radio
And as private security, again, there are two basic kinds: in-house and contract
Contract security means a company or a person or a location like a park can pay my boss' boss money to send powerless scarecrows in uniforms to walk around and provide what is called "visible presence"
which is, essentially, a life-size cardboard cutout of a guy wearing the classic Spirit Halloween costume, "Black Slacks Law Professional" in size L
So if the entire chain of authority, from a toddler at the mall food court all the way up to whoever happens to have access to the majority of the planet's nukes at this time, you should know that someone like me currently ranks somewhere very slightly above Janitor, but still definitely below Cinnabon Assistant Manager
Which means that if I chose to go rogue and use my powers for evil TOMORROW, I would maybe manage to punch a Cinnabon employee and shoplift half a dozen chocolate bars from the gift shop before I am fired and in jail being sued off my ass with my licenses revoked for life, unable to leave the country or apply for a job at Walmart with my new shiny criminal record
Security guards and mall cops ain't police. We're dressed like police so you don't try and do something illegal in the area, but the vast majority of us can't actually do anything.
Calm down
#Teablart#Ahhhh oh no the venomous corn snake#That's what you sound like#I'm sorry I'm getting cranky but good lord we've gone over this#Do your research#I don't give half a wood nickel about our criminal justice system just keep your pants on till you're off the property

prince charming- l.norris
summary: lando brings his niece to the ballet, who knew he'd find love?
pairing: lando norris x fem! ballerina! reader
୨ৎ⋅୨ৎ⋅୨ৎ⋅୨ৎ⋅୨ৎ
Another show finished, another day done. All you had to do was meet some children and show them around the stage. It was a thing the company had decided to do after every single show, and you were one of the only ballerinas who enjoyed it. Everyone else ran out of there as fast as they could, but you stayed around, in full costume, showing them everything.
“Y/n! Y/n! Look!” Mila, the little girl that had been assigned to you pulled on your hand and you followed her over. “It’s your Prince Charming!” She pointed at your co-star, Richard, who was playing Prince Charming while you played Cinderella. He was lovely and one of your best friends, but Mila’s face fell when she saw him kiss another girl, aka his actual girlfriend Mia. “He’s kissing someone else!” she gasped, looking at you hurt.
You smiled. “We’re only together in the show, remember? My name isn’t Cinderella, is it?” You chuckled and she nodded, laughing. “So, that’s Richard, and he’s Mia’s real-life Prince Charming, not mine.”
She nodded understandingly. “Do you have a Prince Charming?”
You internally cringed, why did kids always want to know about your love-life? “No,” you smiled.
Her face lit up. “OH! Perfect! Uncle Lala!” she called for her uncle to come over as your face fell. “Uncle Lala will you be Y/n’s Prince Charming so she can be my Auntie and we can have fun forever?!”
Mila’s excited face and the ridiculousness of her statement, reminding him she truly didn’t know how the world worked, made him giggle. And with Lando, when he starts, he doesn’t stop. It took a whole minute for him to stop laughing, while you sat there awkwardly. You knew who he was, you knew why he was laughing, but it was still rude. Just say no, dude.
“Mila, it doesn’t work like that,” he explained. “She’s way too pretty for me,” he whispered, sitting down beside her, and in front of you.
Your eyes widened and you looked down, confused at the entire situation.
“I know she is,” Mila answered (subtle dig at her uncle, but alright). “But you could ask her to dance or something. Princesses like dancing.”
Lando shook his head. “I’m an awful dancer.”
“Why do you just try talking to her!” Mila scoffed, then ran off to go look at some of the set of the show.
You looked up and met his eyes and you both started laughing. “I’m so sorry about her, she gets like this sometimes,” he admitted, a slight blush on his cheeks.
“It’s alright, it happens sometimes,” you waved him off, an easy smile on your face.
“You get hit on through people’s nieces a lot?” he questioned.
You chuckled. “It’s more common than you think, people love the ballerina shtick.”
He laughed. “How old are you?”
“I’m 23,” you answered. “And I’m Y/n.”
“I’m Lando,” he held his hand out to be shaken. “Nice to meet you.”
“NIce to meet you too,” you smiled, shaking his hand. “Congratulations on the year you’ve had.”
“You watch F1?”
You nodded. “My mom has been into it since she was a kid, she gave that to me, so… yeah.”
“Who’s your favourite driver?” he smirked and you chuckled.
“Nico Hulkenberg,” you smirked.
He chuckled. “Understandable,” he smiled, nodding. “Mila is probably off somewhere trying to destroy your set, I should probably go grab her.”
You both got up and smiled at each other. “It was nice to meet you.”
“It was nice to meet you too, Prince Charming,” you joked, he giggled.
And that was that.
୨ৎ⋅୨ৎ
For the next few days, Lando could not get you out of his head. You were funny, kind, beautiful, good with Mila, everything he wanted in a person, yet he’d let you slip away. You weren’t even on social media, but he followed the company’s instagram and some of your friends to see pictures of you. He decided, once the season ended, he’d go back and find you. Maybe he really could become your Prince Charming.
He joined the rest of the crowd in their standing ovation as you bowed, smiling brightly. He waited around and followed a few more people backstage to finally see you again.
“Lando?” you questioned as you looked at him from behind. “What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to see you again,” he shrugged. “Happy holidays.”
You smiled. “So it is true,” your eyes shone with a hint of mischief. “You did follow the company account.”
He screwed his face up in a half-smile-half-grimace, he’d been caught. “You don’t have a public account, thought it would be weird to follow you on your private one.”
You chuckled. “I would’ve let you follow me,” you told him. “You are my Prince Charming, right?”
He beamed. “Right,” he nodded. “Dinner?”
“Let me get out of costume,” you agreed. You started to walk off and he didn’t follow, unsure what to do. You turned back and grabbed his hand. “Come on!”
He was very happy he had brought Mila to the ballet.

Hey Elle! For your winter games blurbs I would love to see what you do with the “one talking in their sleep and the other listening fondly” prompt with either James or Remus pretty please❤️
so cute haha <3
James Potter x fem!reader who is talking in her sleep [493 words]
CW: only gendered marker used is at the end when James calls her his "sweet girl", fluff
James wondered for a moment if this was perhaps not a touch unethical; like he had overstepped an unspoken boundary that should have been long understood between the two of you.
Because really, this felt worse than going through someone’s phone, but at the same time, he couldn’t exactly turn his ears off, you know?
You were mumbling in your sleep, which only seemed to happen during times of stress. He supposed the holidays were stressful; not necessarily always in a bad way, but stressful nonetheless.
The analog clock on the table beside your bed reads 2:14 am; nothing good ever happens after two am, his mother always said, but he hardly understood what could be bad when he was snuggled up in bed with you.
“S’ a surprise.” You mumble, and James’ lips curve up into a smile of their own volition. You make a humming sound as if someone had responded to you in your dream.
“...wait, Jamie.” You chide; you had mumbled something else before that, but he couldn’t quite catch it. It sounded something along the lines of you telling him “he needed to wait.”
“I’ll wait, angel.” He whispers earnestly, pulling you into his chest and hoping that maybe you’ll fall quiet again, lest James accidentally hear what secret you’re trying not to tell him.
The space between your brows furrow in discontent, and James - never able to deny you of pretty much anything - tries to kiss it away. “You’re okay, sweetheart.” He murmurs into your skin where his lips were pressed.
“Too excited.” You respond, and James actually had to pull away from you just to confirm that your eyes were still closed and you were still more or less unconscious.
“Yeah?” James smiles, tracing lines with his thumb between your hairline and your temple. “Too excited to exchange gifts?”
A long breath left your nose, and James wondered for a moment if maybe you hadn’t fallen back into a deeper sleep; the silence of the room threatening to lull him back to sleep as well.
“Fine, I’ll tell you.” You offer then, and James’ eyes fly right back open. “I got you-”
But - as much as James would have loved to hear what you got him for Christmas, he just couldn’t let you ruin the surprise - before the words left your lips, he was placing his palm over your mouth so that your answer was muffled into his skin.
“Angel.” He scolds, laughing to himself at the way your brows furrow and you begin shaking your head to rid yourself of this new and unusual discomfort. “That’s enough now, yeah? Go to sleep, m’love.”
“M’kay.” You agree sleepily, nestling further into James’ embrace and bringing one hand up to curl around his bicep. “Happy Christmas, Jamie.”
And though it was only 2:14 am exactly one month away from Christmas, he found himself falling back to sleep murmuring “Happy Christmas, my sweet girl” in reply.

I wanted to thank you for running RFM for so long.
And as we wind down to the end of the year (and the era), I want to ask if there's anything the Tumblr community could do to thank you for the effort you've put into this over the years.
Is there a charity or cause that you support that we could contribute to or other action we could take?
Aw, thank you for asking!
If you want a specific place to give, there are a couple of nonprofits I support. The Anti-Cruelty Society where I got the cryptids is local to Chicago and BAGLY is a queer youth nonprofit local to Boston; you can also give to United Way either locally or nationally, to Planned Parenthood, or to the American Library Association, currently fighting the good fight against censorship. I know people working for all of these orgs and your support means a lot to them. You can also give to my Ko-Fi marked "for donation" and I will give in a lump sum to the org I work for, which funds research into terminal lung disease and outreach to patients suffering from it.
But honestly, I hope the most long-lasting legacy of RFM is that people think consciously about caring for one another and about being kind and compassionate even if you feel judgement for the person asking. Over the years I found myself judging people sometimes when they asked for help, and I had to make a policy that I would not only share their link but publicly defend their right to ask, if necessary, because I am not infallible and nobody else is either. It is not for us to determine who can ask, only who we answer.
I've been on a campaign for about a decade to persuade people that while some nonprofits are indeed not great places to give your money, you should approach giving in the spirit of trust. When we buy something -- say, a box of pasta -- we trust that what the box says is inside actually is inside. When we buy a wool sweater we trust it truly is wool unless we have reason to believe otherwise. We look at the box or the label, we do our due diligence, but we don't automatically assume we are being lied to. If you give to a nonprofit, by all means, read the website, maybe do a quick google about them, but trust that most people who work in this field, which is underpaid and full of burnout, are doing their best to help the world. Find a nonprofit you really like the look of and treat it like starting a new friendship -- get to know them, read about what they do, if they have events, especially free events, maybe go to one and have a look around.
But yeah -- that's what I hope lasts, the idea that giving is an act of community and that the spirit in which you give matters, not whether or not you did the most good in the most moral way.

Dean’s minding his own business, sipping on a beer and leering at the bartender, when a guy that admittedly has about four inches and a good twenty pounds of muscle on him storms over and shoves him in the arm.
He tenses, getting to his feet and preparing for a fight even as he’s wondering what he did to piss him off. Maybe the bartender’s his girl? Jesus, Dean was just looking, he can’t get mad at just looking when his girl look likes that.
“Dude, what the hell?” the guy demands. “I know you’re pissed at me right now, but just leaving me back there – do you know how many bars it took to find you? You’re a jackass.”
He’s not taking a swing, instead standing with crossed arms – fuck, this guy is huge, he’d really like to avoid a fight here – and scowling at him, his long hair falling into his eyes as he looks down at him. Dean wishes he had any idea what was going on right now. “Look, man, relax.” The guy’s eyes narrow, his shoulders lifting and expanding as he takes in a deep breath, as if he needs any help to look bigger. Before he can say anything, Dean adds, “I think you’ve got me confused with someone else.”
He rolls his eyes. “Yeah, okay. Fuck off.” He presses his lips together, somehow appearing smaller in the next moment without actually moving. “Look, I know you’re mad about heaven, you’ve made that pretty fucking clear, but you can’t just walk off and turn off your phone. I figured you were just being an ass, but something could have happened to you. If you’re ignoring me, at least let me know you’re ignoring me.”
The guy doesn’t look like he’s tweaking, or suffering some sort of head injury. His eyes are clear and his voice is steady. But Dean has no idea what he’s talking about. “Dude, you’ve really got me confused with someone else.”
“Dean!” he snaps, which woah, okay, he wasn’t expecting that. “This isn’t funny.”
“I’m not laughing,” he says. “How do you know my name?”
He stares at him, uncertainty entering his eyes for the first time. “Are you feeling okay? You didn’t come across Zachariah or a witch or something in the past couple hours?”
He doesn’t know who Zachariah is, but the casual mention of witches makes him frown. Is this guy a hunter or something? He figures he’d remember meeting him, but maybe not.
“Everything okay over here?” Dad’s hand lands heavily on his shoulder, and Dean shifts enough to see him giving the guy a hard stare that has sent more than one man running in the other direction.
Dean almost rolls his eyes – he’s thirty one years old, he doesn’t need his dad coming over to save him – but he makes the effort so rarely that Dean can’t help but be warmed by it.
The guy pales, mouth dropping open as he stares at Dad like he’s seen a ghost. “You – Christo.”
Okay, definitely a hunter. Dad raises an eyebrow. “I’m not a demon.”
The guy grabs for Dean, yanking on his hand. Dean jerks back, but he’s already gotten his long fingers around his ring. He pulls it off and Dean is about to break his jaw to get it back, but he tosses it to Dad, who catches it on instinct. Dean doesn’t get it until he does. His ring is silver. He’s checking if Dad is a shifter, which okay, that’s one thing. Dean’s more concerned about how he knows his ring is silver. The guy’s voice cracks when he says, “Dad?”
Dad raises an eyebrow. “I think you’re a little confused.”
“Dean, what’s going on?” he asks, grabbing onto the sleeve of his jacket. Dean should push him off. “What,” his gaze drops down, and if possible he goes even paler. “Oh. Oh, fuck.”
Dean looks down, sees the guy’s eyes stuck on his amulet. “What?”
“I don’t understand,” he says, biting on his lower lip. “Is this some sort of – but you’re still hunters. Is Mom alive?”
Dean flinches.
“Okay,” Dad says. “That’s enough. You walk this off or whatever, but you do it somewhere else–”
“Dad, it’s me,” he says plaintively. “It’s Sam. Your son.”
Dean doesn’t remember moving, only that the next moment his hands are fisted in the front of this asshole’s shirt, his blood thrumming under his skin. “Shut up. Shut the fuck up.”
He puts his hands on Dean’s wrists, stupid earnest and soft and Dean’s going to kick his ass. “Dean. It’s me. I have to exist in this world, right? The demon was after me, if I wasn’t here then there wouldn’t have ben a fire, Mom wouldn’t have died, you guys wouldn’t be hunters. I have to be around somewhere.”
Dean tries to shove him away, but he won’t let go of his hands. “Shut up! You don’t – don’t talk about my family.”
The worst thing he ever did, his biggest failure. Sometimes the weight of it gets to be so heavy that it feels like it should be cracking his ribs, pressing his heart until it bursts. Sometimes he wishes it would.
He swallows before letting go with one hand and reaching into his pocket to pull something out. It takes Dean a moment to see it’s his amulet, the one he’s worn since he was twelve years old, back when Bobby still talked to them. “My name is Samuel Winchester. I was named after my mother’s father. I was born on May 2, 1983. When I was eight years old, Bobby gave me this amulet. He said it was a protection charm. I was originally planning to give it to Dad for Christmas, but he didn’t show up. Another in a long line of disappointments, right? So I gave it to you instead. Because even when you’re being a jerk, you’ve never let me down.”
Dean’s eyes are burning. He tries to shake off his grip, but he won’t let go. Why is Dad just standing there? “Stop! Stop. I don’t know what game you’re playing–”
“No game,” he says, gentle voice a counterpoint to the grip that’s absolutely going to bruise. “I need you to believe me, Dean, please–”
“My brother died when he was six months old,” he cuts him off. “Samuel Winchester is dead. He’s been dead for twenty six years.”
His fault, his fault, all his fault. If he’d just listened to Dad –
“Not where I’m from,” he says, and it’s crazy, it’s all crazy. “Please. Ask me anything. I’ll prove it. Hell, let’s go to a clinic, we can take a DNA test. I’m Sam. I’m your brother. And I need your help.”
“You mentioned a demon,” Dad says quietly.
The guy, who’s not Sam, who can’t be Sam, tears his eyes away from Dean to look at Dad. “Yeah. Azazel. The yellow eyed demon.”
Dad rubs a hand over his mouth. “I never told anyone about that.”
Dean snaps his head towards Dad. “What? You said you didn’t know what killed Mom! That we were searching for it!”
“We are,” Dad says. “It never resurfaced again. I’ve been looking for the signs.”
The guy frowns. “He started up again when I was twenty two.”
“Not here,” Dad says, looking him up and down, something hungry in his eyes.
Dad believes him. Dad thinks that this is Sammy.
“Let’s discuss this back at the room,” Dad says. “Come on.”
He heads towards the door, sure that he’s going to be followed. The – Sam, maybe Sam, he rolls his eyes, but goes after him. He only stops when his grip on Dean’s wrist jerks him back, because Dean’s not moving, can’t make himself move. He flushes, letting go of Dean finally, but he takes a step closer. His eyebrows pull together in concern, and now that Dean’s looking, he sort of sees it, sees the planes of Dad’s face and his eyes in this stranger with his brother’s name. “Hey, are you okay?”
No.
“Let’s go,” he says, striding forward, shoulders hunched.
Sam falls into step beside him easily, matching his strides like it’s second nature. Dean swallows around the lump in his throat and tries to pretend it means nothing.
#zachariah dropping sam into an alternate universe where he's dead like this will solve ... something#sam earnestly trying to convince dean he's in the better universe because all sam does is ruin everything around him#he tells dean every terrible thing he would have had to endure if sam had survived the fire#all dean hears is that there's universe out there where he's not alone#supernatural

Fallen Star┃Jake Sim
Twenty-four - a little of me, warnings: slight mention of death and descriptions of grief etc..
Masterlist ✶ prev ✶ next
You had woken up feeling awful. It doesn’t really come as a surprise not when these exact moments have been recurring like daydreams that you somehow swim through with a hazy mind and aching limbs. It all started with a slight cough and a runny nose at the beginning of the week, nothing that was too hard to handle for you. The weather was starting to turn crueler, your clothes layered more, thicker in fabric so when you woke up the very next day completely fine you had guessed that the seven cups of tea you had dawned throughout the previous day had surely done their magic.
You were so wrong.
Your body had decided to collapse on you in the middle of the day. Dizziness sneaking into your mind as if you weren’t just running away from Sunghoon with a laughter so loud you were sure you were gonna turn someone deaf. Thankfully Jake was nowhere around to see you and as Sunghoon was fanning you while you lied down on one of the dressing rooms couches you had made him swear not to tell a soul about it – given his love to announce everyone’s news like they’re his own.
So, it didn’t take you long to figure out there’s definitely something wrong with your body, perhaps it was exhaustion yet no matter how many hours you manage to drown in sleep nothing seems to be helping. You make a mental note to get a checkup thinking it might be an iron deficiency or something along these lines.
And yet each day you open your eyes there is something else wrong with you. be your aching body or a scratch in your throat you can’t seem to cough. It’s torture and it feels like your body keeps toying between the line of being sick and healthy, not sure where to lean into more.
“Jesus. You look awful.” Sunghoon comments as soon as you meet him in front of the elevator.
“Yeah, what the fuck is wrong with your face?” Sunoo adds from beside him with a look of unrestrained disgust etched into his face.
“Thanks for the vote of confidence guys.” You reply with a roll of your eyes, sniffling as you walk into the elevator, and they follow while the cold seems to trail as quickly swirling through the space, and you tighten your arms around your shaking body.
You should have taken a painkiller before leaving your apartment.
“Do you even have makeup on?” Sunoo asks, his disgust is washed away by a look of pure worrisome instead. Although the way it’s directed at you somehow feels offensive rather than warming.
“Yeah. I have concealer on.”
“Yikes.” Sunghoon coughs.
“Maybe you should try a different brand. You know something that actually covers your dark circles” Sunoo pouts, his eyebrows knitting in what seems to be pity as his hand rubs your shoulder soothingly. It takes a few counted seconds for you to register his words. The insult sneaked into it has rancor slipping into your feature just as vast as you squint your eyes at him.
“Are you worried about me or the brands of makeup I use?”
“Your makeup. Duh.” Sunoo rolls his eyes, pulling out his phone and Sunghoon snickers from beside you.
You think you’re aware that you don’t look your best. Although to be quite honest you’re not as worried about your face as how the state of your body is stamping its anxiety deep within you. You don’t get sick often, make sure to take care of yourself in that sense at least and the thought of being home, cuddled up in your bed with a snotty nose and a pounding headache isn’t very exciting and nor do you wish for that to happen.
You’re really praying to every fucking god that exists you’re not actually falling sick.
You’ll be fine though – or at least that’s what you think. That’s what you keep praying for -
Please god please please please!!
At this point you have had your fair share of showing up to work half a mess a day then fully got it together the next day so a few of perturbed coated comments from Sunoo and Sunghoon aren’t gonna bother you too much.
However, it does get to you when you’re face to face with Jay and Soojin - who seem to have tagged along after the two of them sharing a breakfast together - You don’t think Jay has ever been this surprised or is he horrified? While looking at your face as he is right now. You blink at him and as his stare stretches a second too long you wonder if you have grown a third arm in the time you walked from the elevator.
“Oh, you look...” he crosses his arms, his eyes sweeping over your figure as he tilts his head. As if finding a word to describe your state is harder than it appears to be “not every good.” He settles with. Cringing at himself or at you. You’re not very sure of anything anymore.
“For fuck’s sake guys okay! I look like an ugly duckling I get it!” you exaggeratingly whine throwing both of your arms in the air as if it expresses your distress and throw yourself onto the couch with a dry sob and bury your face into one of the pillows. Nor your cry or attempt to suffocate yourself with the awful scent of fake leather seem to be working nor gaining you any grain of commiseration because Sunghoon starts cackling from behind you. Almost as clamorous as your sob.
“Aww yn. Don’t mind these silly boys. They’re just being dumb.” Soojin coos gently, sitting down next to you and turning you on your back and you welcome her with a pout that probably does resemble an ugly duckling.
“Like always.” She adds, raises an eyebrow at Sunghoon who shuts up almost immediately, his face turns expressionless in the blink of an eye, and he pretends to be busy examining the snack table. That is empty. while Jay looks away from you. With an awkward scratch to his neck, you could almost detect the wheels in his head finding error in his words.
“Are you sick?” She asks, tone much softer and clement as she moves her hand up and down your arm. You could stare back for a few silent minutes, mouth slightly agape at the power Seo Soojin seem to contain with merely existing.
You don’t think you could ever make Sunghoon shut up this quickly even with the presence of weapons nearby (not that you’ve ever tried. You definitely would never do such a thing).
“I think I’m just a little tired.” you reply, remembering to close your mouth when it feels too dry.
“You don’t look a little tired though.” She rests the open of her palm on the skin of your forehead and you shiver “thankfully, you don’t seem to have a fever.”
“I do have a bit of a headache.” You say, sitting up probably when you almost feel your body slipping down the couch.
“Maybe you should head home.” She rubs your shoulder soothingly.
“And do what?”
“Rest.” Soojin blinks at you slowly as if the dumbest question has just tumbled out your mouth. You wonder if you have managed to lose braincells while growing a third arm.
“Oh, I’ll be fine don’t worry. Besides, I probably have so much to do and- “Soojin doesn’t even let you finish turning her head away from you towards Jay. Yet her palm remains. It’s warm against your shoulder in contrast to how freezing the weather outside is.
“Jay, does yn have anything urgent today?”
“Not really. Jake’s schedule is very light these days and I could pretty much handle it on my own.” The response comes immediately that you have trouble keeping up, eyes darting between the two.
“Great!” she turns to face you again; a smilemounts up her face and it’s somehow as warm as the heat of the missing sun “I’m getting you an uber and you’re going home to rest!”
“Soojin I’m fine seriously. “Once again, she doesn’t give room for you to argue, your words – or rather complaints melting off your tongue when she stands up from the couch, pulling you up with her.
“You owe it to yourself to take care of yourself yeah?” she says, and you hesitate for a few seconds, unsure of what to say back to such tenderness “we need to remember to be gentle with ourselves too.”
“Okay.” You sigh and she smiles “If I feel worse then I’ll leave!-“ you add and her smile vanishes, replaced by the shaking of her head.
“Jay.” She calls turning her face away from you and he straightens in his seat “call jake and tell him that yn is taking the day off.” Jay obliges almost as forthwith as your exhale. With no questions asked and you could only stare between the two, an amused smile tugging at the edge of your lips with a bigger strive to balance on your feet.
As Jay brings the phone to his ear he seems to notice your eyes on him, however he doesn’t seem to notice the sparkle that comes to life at witnessing affection tinting the air, at knowing there are deeper emotions between two people that they aren’t as aware of.
“Ivy’s the boss here. whatever she says, happens.” He says with a shrug, your eyes shift to Soojin, and you think your smile grows bigger as the slightest, lightest hue of pink settles upon her cheeks. It could be passed by as her red sweater bringing color to her face, the light of the room or maybe it’s the tint she applied carefully before leaving her house.
But you know, and she knows that such a display of sentiment comes from something a lot more cavernous and if not for her tugging you out the room while you’re still attempting to fight the decisions already made, you’d think you’re somehow intruding into a forbidden territory.
“That guy is whipped for you.” you comment, bumping your shoulder into hers with a giggle.
“No, he’s not.” Soojin denies, woven with stubborn rebuttal and a shake of her head “He’s that way with everyone.” She adds and it comes out much softer. Like a hushed conviction.
“He doesn’t even listen to Jennie the way he listens to you.” your voice grows louder in strives to prove your truth and she shushes you when you pass by a group of staff members “and she’s his actual boss!” you whisper yell.
“Shut up your uber is almost here.” She chuckles tinting the air with sparkles of affection and it brings a warm smile to your face to witness such a tale.
“Why does he call you Ivy anyway?”
“It’s my English name.”
“That’s cute. You must be special.” You wiggle your brows at her and then a sneeze interrupts your teasing, followed by her giggle as she pushes you into the backseat of the uber.
“Very cute. Now go rest and if you need anything don’t hesitate to text me.” She urges a warning in her gaze that displays her sincerity and perhaps you are a lot sicker than you thought or maybe your head hurts a lot more than when you first woke up because a very strange ache to pout and cry like a child almost takes over you.
Deep down within all the regrets and the shame you keep locked away, a strand of guilt remains there at all the times you were mean to her before. A part of you wishes you could blame your foolishness on the declining state of your health.
“Thank you.” you tell her, and you think Soojin sees through it all and you think she knows you’re about to cry so in the next moment she’s slamming the door shut and points to her ears with her index finger.
“I can’t hear you!” her voice is muffled by the glass of the window and it’s more than ample room for your chuckles to fill the car and gains you a strange look from your uber driver.
On your way home a gentle rain grazes the rooftops across the city, and the sky remains gray even when you’re inside your apartment. You change your clothes and sneak into your very comfortable warm pajamas. You sniffle as you brew your close to 50th cup of green tea this week. Silence fills every corner and despite your throbbing body you realize you’re not sure what to do if you’re not working.
You have been working for as long as you remember, have taken up part-time jobs as soon as you were conscious enough to digest the fact that money was everything. Especially in your case so you always remembered to suck it up. Even when you were sixteen waiting tables in a shitty diner and your boss had thrown inappropriate comments your way daily. You sucked it up. and sure, you have had days off and you have fallen sick before, but it’s been so long. That you feel like a stranger in your apartment when it’s light outside, when your body knows you should be working.
That, accompanied by the fact that the silence gives voice to your thoughts, for your anxiety to bloom and before you gain enough power to shut it down you have already dived into them. Your mind drifting to all the events you have been too busy to think about.
Niki.
Jake
Niki
Jake
Niki.
You rub the sides of your head with your fingers and then you’re taking your hot cup of tea into your living room. You sit on your couch with a groan at the throb persisting in your limbs. You reach for your phone and take small sips of your tea when you dial the number of your friend.
“Thick or regular?” Heeseung asks as soon as he picks up your call.
“Uh-“ you blink at the black screen of your tv “What are we talking about exactly?”
“Soy sauce.” He answers, the voice of strangers around him gives away his crowded surroundings.
“I didn’t even know there’s such thing as thick soy sauce.”
“Apparently thickness is taking over the world. That’s why bbls are a thing yn.” you snort.
“Maybe you should consider getting one.” A clear offended gasp from Heeseung cuts through and for a moment you would think you have insulted the entirety of his family tree.
“Okay I’m surrounded by soy sauce and you’re talking about how flat my ass is I’m so overwhelmed right now.” The gravity coating every word of his has you bursting out in laughter “It’s not like I’m getting backshots soon.” He adds and you choke on your laughter, your tea almost burns the skin of your thigh if you aren’t careful enough.
“I will be the one doing backshots,” you can almost hear the prideful smirk in his voice.
“Okay moving on from you and your shots.” You snort sounding somewhere between disgusted and petrified “Are you at the supermarket?” you ask, placing your cup on the table and adjusting your legs on the couch.
“Yeah. I forgot to make an order of Soy Sauce for the restaurant, so my dad is punishing me by making me go buy some.”
“You seem to be having fun so is it really a punishment?” you chuckle, leaning your head against one of the pillows and for a moment your headache subsides for a bit. Heeseung hums an agreement.
“What’s up with you? you sound like shit.” He asks after a few beats of silence.
“Thanks, I only heard that like ten times today.”
“Are you sick?”
“Probably. I’m really overwhelmed right now too.”
“Why? What’s wrong?” Unalloyed concern clads his tone, and you sink into quietness for a few seconds before sighing.
“I’m honestly still really worried about Niki.” You mumble.
“What did that fucker do?” The sound of a child crying rises in the background and your head slightly pounds at the noise.
“Nothing. I’m just worried about him. I know he said he’s gonna retake his tests, but he has never failed anything in his life Hee.” You lie flat on your back and the sound of crying grows louder “Never. Even when he was in and out of hospitals so I can’t help but worry about him.” You add.
“Yeah I know – hold on-“ there’s shuffling on the other line. Heeseung’s voice grows a tad further but still coherent enough for you to hear “Hey can you stop being a little bitch?” The sound of crying abruptly stops and you blink rapidly at your ceiling with attempts to make sense of what’s going on.
“Or go fucking cry and be a little bitch in a different aisle.” He adds and then there’s an unsettling silence. It doesn’t last long, and it’s interrupted by a loud wail followed by an ear piercing “MOM!!”
“Kids these days am I right?” Heeseung says, voice clearer and tone nonchalant.
“Heeseung did you just call a kid a little bitch?”
“Yeah. Anyways back to Niki,” you open and close your mouth a handful of times, closer to speechless but then you’re shaking your heard with reminders that this is Heeseung and at this point in your lives it’s little that surprises you with him.
“Yeah anyways. I was wondering if you know anything about what's going on with him? Maybe he felt comfortable talking to you about it.”
“Not really. He’s been acting the same too.” He replies and you faintly exhale. Feeling a little defeated and lost with what to do with your worry “If you’re that worried about his grades dropping, I can talk to him about doing less shifts at the restaurant until his exams are over.” He adds with a hum, seeming a bit absentminded “I don’t know if he’ll be happy about it though.”
You try to let his words permeate your mind with inhuman effort and as you tilt your head at nothing in particular it takes you 10 seconds to comprehend what he just said. You sit up with confusion and then shock pushing you forward.
“Hold on,” you suck in a breath and your brows scrunch “What do you mean shifts? He’s been working at the restaurant?”
“Shit yeah. it’s been a while now. You didn't know?”
“What the fuck? No I didn't know. Why would you give him a job Hee? You know his body can’t handle it.” you berate, frustration woven in your tone.
“I don’t fucking know bro. he told me he needed the money, so I gave him one.”
“Did he tell you what he needed the money for? He has been selling his paintings online why would he need more money out of nowhere.” You run your hand through your hair tiredly, your body growing hot and you aren’t sure if its irritation manifesting in your veins or a fever.
“I really don’t know yn.” Heeseung sighs on the other line “But either way I’ll talk to him when he comes into work later. Don’t worry.”
“That would be good, thank you.” you reply, not worrying is an impossible task.
“Of course.”
“I’ll talk to him about everything properly once I’m over this cold or whatever it is. I don’t want him to get sick.” You say falling back onto the couch and stretching your legs. They weigh heavy and your heart feels heavier in your chest.
“Yeah, you better rest for now. I’ll talk to you later and text me if you need anything.”
“Okay.”
As soon as you hang up, your anxiety seems to have doubled, Like ghosts swarming by your feet and slowly it feels like they’re taking over every cell of your essence. A strand of penitence comes to life in the midst of it all and you can’t help but wonder if perhaps were negligent of Niki due to how messy your life has been these past few months. Did you not pay enough attention to his struggles? How long has it been and when did he ever need anything and didn’t feel comfortable to tell you? Was there a stretching distance between you that you hadn’t noticed?
The thought is terrifying to you, it shakes you from within and when you check the time on your phone, it feels like it hasn’t moved ever since you stepped foot into your apartment. You close your eyes with a shuddered breath
Somewhere along the worries plaguing your mind like permanently sharpened needles and your hands digging for solution you manage to doze off on your couch. Curled with your knees held to your chest and wrapped with your arms. You aren’t sure how long you slept. It’s long enough for the rain to subside and short enough for the gray clouds to remain. The sky, mystified by the lack of light and night, is yet to unfurl.
The only reason that’s strong enough to pull you out of your sleep is the sound of your doorbell reverberating through your walls. And at first you think it’s a part of your dream but you’re picking apples and they’re crispy red and shiny but there’s a dying fish by your feet and who the fuck is at your door?
You open your eyes with a croaky groan. Your head pounds with an even worse migraine and your stomach is clenching in excruciating building nausea. You sit up and if you thought you felt awful earlier then it’s nothing compared to this. Like every bone in your body is aching and your fingers itch with an urge like sneaking through your flesh and squeezing tight.
Your doorbell rings again and this time it’s repeated, wrapped in evident panic at the lack of response from you and you finally decide to move. Shuffling to your door and maybe you are still in a hazy dream because as soon as you open your door Jake is standing there. Yet, it is the genuine worry etched in his eyes that has you blinking into reality. His hair is undone, falling over his eyes naturally and his skin glimmers just the same. He looks like he just showered, and you almost don’t recognize him in his plain white sweatshirt topped with a brown jacket and jeans.
You eye him scrutinizingly, taking note of the two plastic bags he’s carrying.
“Jake? What are you doing here?” your voice is shattered, tinted by the remnant of your sleep and then confusion.
“Yn.” he exhales as if he’s relieved, he’s not stumbling upon your corpse and instead you’re alive “Jay told me you were sick and I was gonna send you some stuff but uh – “ he speaks hastily, hand scratching at the back of his neck and eyes fleeing from you and his words almost as scattered as your thoughts and perhaps that’s why it feels like you don’t understand anything he’s saying. His gaze finds you and he clear his throat. Almost like he falters at your silence.
You must be really sick or still dreaming.
“Anyways are you okay?” He asks hastily yet gently, and he remains gentle in the way his voice infiltrates your being, benign in the way he looks at you as his gaze darts over your figure and then they linger on the discomfort painting your features. It has his own brows furrowing deeper with growing concern.
He tells himself he shouldn’t be this panicked – this nervous. Shouldn’t let it show so obviously, clearer than the gray skies. Albeit he had practiced every word he wanted to say to you, all the excuses he was ready to spill upon finding his way to your home. Uninvited and perhaps unwelcome. For fuck’s sake he thinks he bought the entirety of the small convince store close to your apartment building and there’s embarrassment brewing in his blood, his excuses withering at the tip of his tongue the deeper your discomfort seep into your face.
And no words of his permeates your mind strong enough and instead all you could think about is your head is pounding, and you need to sit down or bash it against the wall. It’s solely why you don’t say anything back and instead turn around in search of relief.
“Yn.” Jake calls with scattered disconcertment as he follows you inside, the plastic bags are a hassle, and he curses himself yet remembers to close the door behind him and his voice echoes through your mind and your living the room when he calls again “Bunny.”
You sit down on your previous spot on your couch, the room is darkened by your blinds and when you bury your head in the palms of your hands it’s not quick enough for you to not witness Jake kneeling in front of you with no hesitation, his bags abandoned on the floor as if he hadn’t spent wasting minutes on deciding what to get, what’s best for you. he doesn’t touch you and his hand hovers awkwardly above your back and yet you swear you could feel its heat as if he is touching you.
“Bunny what’s wrong? Are you dizzy?” his voice betrays an unsubdued concern almost frantic, and you deny his question with a shake of your head.
“Can you talk to me? I wanna be able to help you okay?” He gently coaxes and you keep quiet because you could still sense his hand hovering, and you wonder why can’t his hand be as gentle “Can you tell me what you’re feeling? Mhm?” he suggests once again.
“My head hurts so bad.” You whimper and it feels so silly, the urge percolating into you to cry. It’s the type of pain that makes you wish you could peel your skin off. Abandon your skull somewhere.
“Okay.” He stands up and you peer up at him through your palms and he’s looking around as if he’s trying to decide what he should do next. Evidently nervous as he runs his hand through his hair “Painkillers. I’ll get you some painkillers.” And then he’s walking towards one of the bags he was carrying, digging through them with seemingly no avail as he curses under his breath.
“Fucking hell how did I forget to buy painkillers?” He berates himself, digging into the second bag only to end with failure. “Do you have any painkillers?” He asks looking up at you and the sight of you on your couch huddled up in pain even if it’s something as minor as a mere headache sends the same ache dripping from your fingertips and nestling its way right to the middle of his chest, digging and digging.
He doesn’t wait for your answer and seconds pass by and then you hear him rummaging through the cabinets of your kitchen. His search doesn’t last long thanks to the painkillers you had left on the counter this morning with complementation. You feel his presence and there’s a glass of water in his hand.
“This will make you feel better. Come on bunny.”
He’s standing in front of you again and weirdly enough the way he speaks as if the autumn sunlight is in his voice rather than the cruel winter outside makes you feel vulnerable and when he offers comfort in the palm of his hand, places the glass of water on the table you could only manage to shake your head once again with denial.
“I’m really nauseous and I don’t feel like I could take anything right now without throwing up.” You complain with a snivel and your tone breaks as if you’re about to shed tears and Jake feels it hit him in the pit of his stomach. It’s uncomfortable and unjust because despite how scratched and heavy his heart is your pain still manages to nip at him in different places. As if there’s no way for him not to feel you.
You leer at him and your eyes are misty, you see his hands clench then unclench by his sides and you imagine he’s fighting against restraints to not touch you. His teeth sink into his bottom lips, his fingers dig crescents into the tender skin of his palm. And you wonder how a feeling as tender manages to suffuse within you. You wonder how your mind finds room amidst the pain to fantasize about him when he is right in front of you.
But then Jake is kneeling right by your knees once again and your eyes widen only slightly when he replaces your hands with his. Pressing his thumbs into your temples.
“What are you doing?”
“Shh. Doing this helps me with my headaches sometimes.” He explains and you shut your eyes when he applies light pressure with his fingers. And yet you are overly aware of how wavering you persist to be.
You’re unsure if you’re dizzy because your body is catching up to how weary you feel or because he’s suddenly so close. Close enough to feel his breath hit your face, the pads of his fingers are rough and yet contrastingly warm and it’s been so long since he touched you.
“Is there anything else that’s hurting you?” He asks – whispers delicately - after a few moments of silence with only the sound of your intermingled breaths.
“My body hurts too.” You reply – whisper back just as delicately - and you can’t fight against the small pout jutting your bottom lip out. You think if you were in the right state of mind, you’d be cringing at how dramatic you’re acting.
“Thankfully you don’t seem to be having a fever.” The swipes of his thumbs circle your skin soothingly “You’ll be okay.” He reassures, applying harder pressure every now and then. For a fleeting moment you aren’t sure if he’s trying to comfort you or himself.
“I have you.” it’s a faint whisper. Barely inaudible and for a different fleeting moment it feels like a lie your sick mind had conjured up to feed your thirsting heart. The same fragile heart that pulsates against your ribcage and you don’t want it to be a lie or a heedless imagination.
“Do you promise?” you childishly ask, and Jake lets out a breathy chuckle that tickles your face. You open your eyes, and they prance around his. The chuckle that has melted onto a small smile slowly disappears from his face and you don’t know what kind of expression you’re wearing, what kind of mask you should be hiding behind.
“I promise.” He replies and you sigh because you don’t know if he means that you’ll be okay or that he’s got you, but you hold onto the latter. With clutches roughened by the selfishness of your own longing and shut your eyes with silly covets like not unveiling it.
It’s only when enough time has passed for your body to relax. No longer tense shoulders and shuddered breaths. Instead, the tranquil silence that has settled right between you two settles in the depths of your chest just the same as Jake speaks;
“Better?” He asks.
“Mhm.”
“Do you think you could try taking the painkiller now?”
“Yeah.” you clear your throat, pushing your eyes to open when his hands abandon your skin, and you wish you lied.
Even for a bit longer as he hands you the pills, he had picked up earlier followed by water that you chug diligently and it’s only when your glass is empty that you exhale. Wiping at the corner of your mouth at the few straying drops. He eyes you tentatively when you look up at him.
“Sorry.”
“For what?” His eyebrows furrow in clear confusion.
“For troubling you. Being a burden. I don’t know.” you slightly wince, eyes shifting somewhere else before catching his yet again and he abides unremitting.
“You’re not a burden bunny.” You can sense there’s more that linger at the tip of his tongue, and you wait “I’m here because I was worried about you.” he finishes and your cheeks splash with pink evoked to steal his attention by your pale face.
“Does your body still hurt?” He asks when you’re quiet for far too long, with running gazes and nerves colored hands and pretends he didn’t feel his face burning up at his confession.
“A bit.” You answer, scratching at your wrist and clearing your throat “Can you hand me my laptop, please?” you ask, pointing somewhere behind him and he raises a displeased eyebrow at you.
“For what?”
“There’s a couple of stuff I need to get done.”
“Like what? What’s so important that you need to do now?”
“Bills. Rent is due soon and there’s Yeonjun’s car fees. I was gonna do them earlier but I ended up falling asleep.” You explain, rubbing your forehead warily and the space between his brows deepen with confusion.
“Car fees?” he questions and you nod as if he’s supposed to understand “yeah I need to pay him. I need my laptop.” You move to stand up and your head is spinning a bit but you don’t get to make it far before his hands are on your shoulders pushing you to sit back down and then Jake is on his knees again, chasing after your eyes with a tilt of his head.
You wish he wouldn’t kneel so easily, as if he won’t swallow your heart up and flee.
“Are they urgent?” He asks tenderly and your chest tightens as if there isn’t enough room for your breaths to leave.
“No but I have to do them right now.” You insist with a shaky voice when his hands cradle your face with loving forbearance, one that has you feeling languid.
“Shh, you don’t need to do anything right now, okay?” he reassures as if you were panicked and perhaps you were, you aren’t sure if it’s because of your lack of work or simply because Jake is in the same space as you and you aren’t sure how to act without vomiting words lodged at the back of your throat.
I've missed you so much that I've been naming the stars in the sky after you.
“You’re on sick leave for a reason. Your body needs rest.” His thumb swipes at your cheek and his face is within centimeters of yours “You can do all of these things tomorrow or whenever you feel better, okay?” you let a shuddered breath out and for a second it feels like looking away from him is unobtainable, not when his gaze glints with golden specks, ones that feels like they are reserved for you.
“Okay.” You whisper back, overtaken by defeat and perhaps you never stood a chance.
“Good.” He grins, overtaken by triumphant.
Strands of his black hair fall over his face, and you don’t think you have ever felt this much envy towards anything aside from a human being. Your fingers itch on your lap with temptation to push it out of the way yet you hold yourself back, despite the lure entangled in every move he makes. You are too aware of the distance, too aware of the space you shouldn’t cross, and you will enough power not to slip again.
You fall into silence with purpose, mainly because you feel like a cuddled child and yet you have this growing fear inside of you. It slithers its path to your flickering glances, right into the skin of his palms as he strokes your cheeks. You’re so awfully scared of splitting yourself open, baring your insides and submitting your soul to disaster.
“How about I run you a bath?” He suggests with a slight hum, and you shake your head when his hands trail to your knees.
“No.”
“Why not? It will help you feel better.”
“I don’t really wanna move right now.” As if to prove your point you lie down on the couch, your hair spread like a halo around you and although the room is enveloped in darkness, and everything falls into one color he swears he could almost see the sunrays infiltrating through your strands. its warmth travels to him and he almost want to spread his arms wide open to welcome it.
And perhaps it is enough force to coaxes his smile to rise – his eyes sink into excruciating benevolence and there you are stumbling yet again. Unable to look away from him, not when he’s everything you wish to behold. It pushes you into folding your desire into itself. Tucking it into the space none of you dare to take.
“Weren’t you just fine moving a second ago to get your laptop?”
“That’s different.” You argue with a shrug, making no attempts to further strengthen your point.
“It will be warm, and it will help with soothing the ache in your body.” He says, try to persuade you with a hum and the air tastes fragile, enticing you with an ache to bury your face in the middle of his chest and sing a melody of your name into it, tattoo your name into the canvas of his soul, or maybe it’s you.
“My ache is fine actually, thank you.”
“Oh yeah? is that why your legs are shaking?” he arches a brow at you, smile tilting upwards as if they’re claiming to reach for the stars and you look down at your body, haven’t realized the slight tremble wrecking through it.
“That’s because I’m cold.”
Wordlessly he shrugs off his brown jacket and places it over your lower body, covering your legs and it provides little to no warmth but the scent of laundry detergent engulfs your being. It waters your fervent longing back to the surface. Drowning you in it and you wish to drown in everything that makes up Jake. You didn’t know you could miss someone when they’re right in front of you and you didn’t quite grasp how hard it is to shake the hallucinating thoughts of him – where touching him isn’t forbidden and looking at him comes easily – without threats for your words to spill.
“What about you?” you mumble, pointing at his thin , almost see through sweatshirt.
“I can handle the cold just fine.” He retorts “You know what would help you warm up though? A bath.”
“I’m gonna feel cold as I undress to get into the bathtub.”
“I’ll make it really warm to make up for the few minutes of coldness you’re gonna feel.” He counteracts with a chuckle emerging from his lips and landing right in the middle of your heart. You’re quiet, as if you’re contemplating his words and he thinks he won as your eyes flit elsewhere – he misses you.
“What if the water is too hot it burns my skin?” you ask, softly and yet seriously enough for him to feel the same feeling welling in the pit of his stomach again – as if a flower is fighting its way to bloom through cracks of sorrow and he isn’t sure how to deal with it.
The sunrays, the flowers and the sorrow. He won.
“I’ll make sure nothing like that happens to you.” he replies, just as softly as tender as gingerly. And it’s unfair because you feel your heart palpitate at his mere existence and you already know he won the minute he stepped foot in here.
“How about this,” he straightens, pushes his hair away from his face and you’re envious at his hands and grateful all at once for granting you a clearer glimpse to his features “I’ll go run the bath. Make sure everything is perfect for you and then if you still feel like you don’t want to go in, you don’t have to, okay?”
You don’t think you’re brave enough to accept his kindness as it is. You will always manage to find different facets of it. Dress it in the intensity of affection and stare at his smile as if spilled lullabies are woven to call for their home – within your soul.
“Okay. I’m sorry.”
He shushes you and when he stands up, his hand lingers above your head. His own urges – hankerings to brush through your hair betray themselves in the flicker of light in his gaze so you cowardly look away because you’re scared of betraying your burning heart in yours. Scared of being rejected and falling between the walls of whys.
“I’ll be back.” He whispers, flown away and you could still smell the rain on your skin.
Your house – a small apartment is the complete opposite of his. He never was into the intricacies of home décor. Hence why the space of his home remains plain and simple. His own touches of life lacking and the only thing close to boisterous are his forget me nots and the painting that somehow managed to lead back to you.
You, however, stay lively with scattered hanged pictures of Japan across the walls. And your dessert shaped candles, your bathroom smells like Sakura petals, and you manage to inject your love into everything you surround. He thinks he likes it here.
He’s gone for two minutes only; the bath is half full when you peak your head through the door of your own bathroom. Your hair is disheveled, and his jacket is now around your shoulders.
“Changed your mind?” He asks with a grin that churrs your insides.
“The thought of a bath didn’t seem so bad after all.” You answer as you step inside. You take a seat on the closed toilet seat and watch as Jake reads the back label of your pink bubble bath soap, his nose scrunches a little too adorably as if he is displeased of what it contains. Your heart warms at the sight and he still pours a generous amount of it into the tub, filling it with bubbles and then he follows it with your bodywash.
The scent of vanilla overtakes the Sakura.
“This smells just like you.”
“It is my bodywash after all.”
“I like it.” He says, eyes drifting to the water as he tests the temperate with his hands. How I smell or merely the scent? you want to ask but you don’t.
When the water is warm and full. He trudges towards you, his cheeks are slightly pink due to the heat and there’s a soft smile dispersing across his lips with coated fondness. It steals your breath away when he’s leaning down and taking off your socks for you. You slightly flinch with a bout of embarrassment.
“Y-You don’t have to do this Jake.” You fumble diffidently, with your words and your racing heart.
“I know.” He looks up at you “I want to. Am I making you uncomfortable?” He questions throwing your socks to the side. You’re left to wonder how you are supposed to accept his integrity, his attentiveness, the unfair ability to have you wavering on this warmth of his.
“No.” you admit, with a rattled breath and perhaps the tilt of his lips is worth it.
“Can I?” He still asks when his hands reach for the buttons of your pajama top, you shrug his jacket off and nod with a burning face.
Silence rushes in unwelcomed, and your keep your gaze downcast. watch as his fingers seemingly slower than you wish unbutton every single one. Your heart picks up speed with each one and breathing grows harder when your eyes dart towards his and yet still vacillating. Because it is not lust that fetters the air but rather something that feels much more intimate. Like exchanging words between your gazes that your tongue will not be able to match.
And it stays even when you’re finally in the bathtub. Encircled by a familiar scent, warmth and Jake at the edge of your tub. The water is as pleasant as he promised, and your body relaxes.
“Just call for me if you need anything, alright?”
Suddenly you’re inundated with a colossal amount of disappointment at being left alone. Your eyes shifting, fingers picking at the surface of your tub.
“Alright, bunny?” He asks again and maybe it is your tiresome tinting all logical thinking that you should have but then you’re shaking your head, kicking your pride to the side.
“What if I need something but I can’t call for you?” stupid, stupid yearning.
Jake looks perplexed for a few seconds, but his expression is softened by a fond smile. He had broken hearts before – not intentionally. And he never was the man to listen to others strives to grasp for his affectionate. And yet in this moment, he’d rather have you break his heart than refuse what your eyes are seeking.
“I’ll just stay then.” He tells you, tender and you’re shy. Cheeks glowing pink and he feels his fondness for you trickle into his blood and it bumps faster, rougher through his veins when you catch his gaze.
You lean back into the tub with your lips slightly tilting, pushing the entirety of your hair to the side. The ends swim alongside you and stray rivulets of water slips down your neck. Catching his gaze as it lingers for a minute too long on the necklace that’s always there.
It's just you, unadulterated with the weather outside and draped with effulgence as he always knew you to be. And it’s him, without the echoes of all his doubtful battles. Perhaps he managed to empty his mind in the water and your necklace – his – remains around your neck even when you’re bare. It’s like you’re wearing him, and he likes to think he’s woven into the fabric of your soul.
He looks away for a spilt second, a puff of a chuckle forces its way past his lips.
“What?” you ask, tilting your head to the side with a growing smile and God – you’re breathtaking.
“I just had a stupid thought.” He shakes his head, and the water slightly splashes when you move closer to him.
“Tell me.” you say, and he thinks you’re too tangled in his soul.
“It just feels like it’s been a while since we looked at each other.” He says softly “But we see each other every day so it’s stupid.” He continues and recognition fills your eyes like you know exactly what he means.
“It’s not stupid.” you reply, and you are too tangled in his soul “I have actual stupid thoughts all the time. And you know it.”
“They’re extraordinary, I wouldn’t call them stupid.”
“That’s just a nicer way of saying I’m stupid.” You retort with a playful snort; your smile remains soft.
“Shut up you’re not stupid.” He insists and a comparable softness traverse in his irises and it pushes you right into quietness.
You never were one for silence. Because silence is uncomfortable and it’s vast with its weight. It vocalizes everything you’ve been trying to evade all day, perhaps all week or maybe it’s been long enough to be called months. However, right now it doesn’t feel like that. It’s akin to placid waters, your reflection comes back crystalline clear rather than distorted.
“You’re the last person I expected it to see today if I’m being honest.” You speak after stretching minutes of none of you saying anything, fingers drawing star shapes into the water and his eyes watch you with faithful attention.
“What would have you done if I wasn’t here?” He doesn’t ask why, and you wonder if he knows or is merely uninterested.
“Probably become one with my couch until I felt better.” You shrug and he shakes his head with a tsk of disapproval. For an odd reason a knot forms in your stomach, impossibly tight and the skin of your neck ignites in flame. You tell yourself you’re growing too hot and that’s it.
“I wish you took care of yourself the way you take care of others.” He says, candor embraces every syllable with ease. A similar knot forms in the middle of your tongue. Deeming it useless. There is no peace in confessing that you aren’t sure how to do that. Not when you have spent a lifetime with amiability directed at anyone but yourself.
“I don’t think I know how to do that.” There’s no peace in confessing yet you still do it. Perhaps you were tired of trying to light a matchstick that refuses to obey, his eyes mellow down into nothing but adoration.
Was there a point in trying to save someone that refuses to be saved?
But Jake hasn’t been acting like himself. Following his impulses blindly, it’s evoked by the callings of his heart, yearning to be near so he showed up to your door like there’s room for him. He touched you like he wasn’t made from poison and he can scour through every rational thought but they’re all adjudged futile against the softness that is you.
“I’m here now.” He says, I’m here to take care of you, you hear.
The enormity of his desire disgusts him, it’s a craving beyond his flesh and it’s unjust. I’ll shape myself into something that’s worth taking care of you, he means.
“You have been working hard, your body is probably upset with you.” He adds when you’re quiet, eyes darting over your dubious figure and he thinks your cheeks have drained the colors from the world, they’re pink and the sky is gray.
He’s unworthy but it’s a great honor to think he’s the reason why.
“Tell that to my boss.” You joke and Jake narrows his eyes at you.
“I actually heard your boss is super nice,”
“Did you now?”
“Uh huh, super nice and handsome too. Ripped body. Killer smile. I could go on forever. Really.” He trails, lowering his fingers one by one and you roll your eyes with a forced giggle tumbling out your lips, one that you cannot seem to be able to hold back.
“Who’s feeding you these lies? Jay?”
“So, you don’t agree that I’m handsome?”
“Beauty is subjective.”
“Is that a no?” a look of faux offense clambers over his face and your giggle uprears in volume, grows further from fatigue and closer to how you usually sound. You pretend to zip your mouth shut, raising palms in surrender as if you can’t help it.
A deeper umbrage takes claim on his face, and he attempts to splash water at you, you turn your head with a laugh, and he sees Sakura petals bloom across your face, they come from within, watered by you.
“In all seriousness,” he itches closer to you. and your smile melts off your face at the sudden propinquity it has your body engulfed in heat that isn’t provided by the bath. His fingers trail underwater, and when his eyes catch yours, they’re soaked with softness and your reflection is so clear. when his fingers graze yours, they fail to intertwine, and your heart is beating so fast you feel like you could throw It up.
“You’re doing a good job, bunny.” Your eyes soften as marginally, you bring your knees up to your chest. Attempts to hide the joy that overtakes your sentiment – the warmth that caresses your heart. You allow yourself to bask in it and a faint voice whispers in your heart;
You have managed to stumble on a lost star – he shines so brightly and burns just as bright. And he calls for you in a sea of flesh.
“You’re doing a good job too, Jake.” He smiles and your mind careens.
“Tell that to my assistant.”
This time it’s you who splashes him with water and this time it’s him who laughs like the world shrinks into nothing but you and him in the middle of your small bathroom. And you smile like your heart has never known pain, but you don’t tell him that you didn’t let the water get to him on purpose, and you don’t show him that love writes itself in the corners of your face.
“Shall I help you wash your hair?” He asks when his laughter had died down and the glint in his eyes shines brighter.
“You don’t have to.”
At your answer he’s already getting up, hands reaching for your bottle of shampoo. When he’s behind you, hands entangled in your hair. You bury your face in your knees with a profound urge to weep taking over your sensitive heart. It’s foolishly emerging from the fog of your confusion at the reminder that you don’t remember the last time someone cared for you this deeply, this tenderly. And there’s unavoidable loneliness at the thought, there’s melancholy in the feeling, knowing that this tenderness is temporary.
No matter how selfishly you hope for it to last. Your mind is a battlefield, haunted by touches of love. Stories upon stories stitched together by great ardor. You have seen it all around you, in movies, written in pages of a novel and in ending relationships your friends had gone through – none of them are yours.
“Bunny I can’t wash your hair if you’re leaning that far off.” Jake comments with a chuckle.
You keep quiet, too embarrassed to cry over something as inevitable as Jake leaving. Too ashamed of the covetous ache brimming in your blood. You have tried to discard it, but you aren’t sure how are you supposed to drain your blood without kneeling into death.
Jake follows your silence. Maybe he thinks you’re stubbornly childish, maybe he thinks you’re teasing him or maybe he sees it through it all and your weakness is unabashed and it’s a glaring red siren coaxing him into the complexity of your essence. You don’t see him, but you feel him moving behind you, the sound of a lid uncapping and then his hands are on your back with lathered soup, vanilla fills the empty spaces of silence.
His hands aren’t soft against your skin, they’re rough, washed raw and dry. You could almost distinguish every scar that embellishes them, the healing ones, old ones you haven’t been there to witness taint his skin. His sadness – unrelenting guilt is unabashed, and you never knew such callous hands could be this gentle.
It’s another stupid thought – but maybe there’s room for something to belong to you.
When the sun sets outside. The lights in your hallway stay the same. While Jake takes an alarmingly long time to wash his hands. Long enough for enervation to sink deeper into your bones, it drains the color from your face. and it transpires itself into imaginary leg cuffs around your ankles making your movement closer to a harder task than breathing.
You somehow feel even more tired, dragged further down the hole of sickness.
“You okay?” He asks when he finds you in your bedroom, sitting on your velvet vanity chair and clothed in your robe. Your hair is slightly damp and the colors of the sun leaving seeps in through the openings of your curtains.
“Just a little tired.” You answer, throwing a glance at his direction and it leaves him wondering – perhaps for days – how you manage to look like you stepped out of the painting of his dreams.
In his dreams, his heart isn’t as filthy and merging into you isn’t as fearful.
In reality, he clears his throat and steps into your room, inhales your perfume and envelopes his filthy heart with faux courage.
“Have you eaten yet?”
“Mhm.” You lean your head back onto his chest when he’s standing behind you. He conceals his surprise with immense force, not fast enough for the betrayal of his slightly widened eyes. cinnamon and vanilla overtake his senses, your face is doused in exhaustion and his mind is fuzzy.
“Not yet.” He inhales you.
“We’ll need to get some food in your system, yeah?” He whispers and you hum, eyes falling shut when he tentatively brushes his fingers through your hair “We’ll also need to do something about your hair – can’t have you getting sicker.”
“I don’t feel like doing anything.” You faintly complain, a small pout adorning your lips when you look up at him, the sunset glimmers in your eyes and reality pales in comparison.
“I’ll do it for you.” He replies with an amused grin at the way you’re acting. It gives room for the moon to rise.
You aren’t sure what he means by that – however a long sigh caged in your chest escapes when he starts brushing your hair. He’s extremely gentle, fingers coated in delicacy that you don’t even provide for your own hair. And there’s a peculiar domesticity painting the air. As if this was how everything was meant to unfold. For you to eventually end up here and for him to be behind you through it all.
“I never thought that the Jake Sim would be good at braiding hair.” You comment lightly when he starts sectioning your hair, he catches your eyes in the mirror.
“My mum taught me.” he mumbles, eyes returning to his work and seeming completely focused on your hair “I used to braid her hair for her all the time.”
“That’s really sweet.” You reply with a lowered tone – a hushed softness and Jake is quiet for a few moments. You think his words die here but then he speaks again.
“I vividly remember how each time the braid grew smaller and smaller because she kept losing so much hair.” His words flow as easy as autumn breeze, bittered by the winter as if the image is still fresh in his head. Rather than a distant memory. It’s an image that still glides throughout his reality.
“She always joked that it’s better this way. That it’s easier for me to braid.” He chuckles but it lacks life, joy, and his eyes deepen with distant – longing and your heart tightens, brows slightly furrowing at his undeniable grief.
I’m sorry. Lingers at the tip of your tongue but you’re well aware that’s not the kind of words that will bring him peace. It won’t ease his pain or lessen the depth of his sadness – anger. You’re well aware not to act upon the urges clashing inside of you. truthfully you want to know everything about him. The thoughts that invade his mind at night, in the mornings and right now when he’s dozing off with pieces of you in between his fingers.
What is he like when his anger isn’t restrained – what is he like when he’s not bottling everything up and what would it be like to peek into his sorrowful river. You don’t give room for yourself to decipher the cause of this urge. You know it’s not trivial curiosity, but rather the desire to peer into the corners of his souls. Like a book you wish to read, your fingers itching. Yet you manage to hold yourself back. You smile and night has painted the sky.
“She sounds like a lively woman.”
“She is.” He says absentmindedly while his hands braid the ends of your hair “She was.” He corrects in a fleeting second “She was the type of person to find happiness even on the darkest and gloomiest days.”
Jake’s lament displays itself in the floods of his existence with no shame. There’s softness twined in his gaze; one that appears naturally at the mention of a person he holds so dearly to his heart, yet the bitterness abides part of it all. It’s a wound that had yet to stop aching in pain, to stop bleeding. He doesn’t know why he tells you all this and doesn’t know how the words slipped out of his mouth but his eyes stumble upon yours there’s not a single cell of regret in his body.
You don’t look at him with pity nor sympathy. Jake had showed off his scars to you and you still look at him like it’s just – him. Not his shame, or grief. His existence had always felt like a garden of black and red agonies. Had seen it tickle down his cheeks with rivulets of his sorrow, witnessed the blood seep out his fingers and drench the ground with every step he takes. But you’re there, in the midst of it all and you’re not looking at him with disdain. Instead, you flourish with ease, as if he isn’t made of prickling thorns.
“I’m sure she’s still watching over you, proudly.” You tell him with a fragile smile, and it shouldn’t shake his soul the way it does. He looks away with a slight tremble in his hand. A labored breath and he can’t say anything back to you. You don’t look at him as shame or grief and he can’t let you look at him as his regret, his guilt.
Jake is made up of a garden tainted with black and red agonies – his remorse remains a master of it all. He doesn’t find enough courage to come face to face with the fact that it’s not that. That if his mother knew, if you knew how he lived his life. Glory has no place to exist. So, instead he grins and ties your hair for you.
“All done.”
“Wow! it’s really well done actually.” You say, bringing your hair to the front and staring at it, between your hands. A pang of ache nestles its way into his stomach and it’s peculiar to feel like you’re holding a piece of him so delicately.
“it’s just one of my many talents.” He quips and you giggle slightly.
You keep your eyes glued to your hair and he senses something shifting in your eyes and your lips cast downwards faster than he’d like. He senses a realization in you unfold as your brows start to furrow.
“My mom,” you speak suddenly and then you’re looking at him, a smile doused in sorrow similar to his is on your face “my mom never really taught me anything.” You murmur like a confession pulled from the depths of your soul. For a moment he thinks he sees your scars too, they’re raw and have yet to stop bleeding, he thinks he tastes your heartache on your tongue.
It’s bitter and doesn’t belong in you.
“You still turned out wonderful.” He says, every word, tone is inundated with sincerity and your eyes flit to his with purpose to steal his heart. They glimmer and he wonders how envious the moon must be – he wonders if there’s room for him to linger around.
“You don’t have to be nice to me just because I’m sick.” You joke lightly, you ended up baring your insides after all.
“Have I ever lied to you?” He whispers, not colored with amuse like you had hoped.
“No.” you answer, and you think you can’t slip when you have already fallen, and he smiles like he knows he won.
You realize it then – how scary intimacy truly is. Not the one evoked by lust and hunger but this one. The one that saturates the air with vulnerability. Baring your soul with its ugly scratches, your hideous mistakes while blind to everything that’s coming your way.
And he realizes it then – that there’s so much of you he has yet to unveil, he sees parts of you everywhere, in the love you spill into everything you do. And in your so ever called hope. Jake was never optimistic. Life hadn’t given him the privilege to be and somewhere in the darkened nights in his garden he lost the ability to believe in such an intangible thing as hope. So, he wonders why he wishes for your hope to never wither away. He feels this immense urge to peer into your soul, look through the pages of your book.
You open your mouth to say something and the hairs on his body rise in anticipation to listen with devotion. It’s an odd feeling to thirst for someone like this. Not for their body to touch yours or unload accumulated stress through them but rather to intertwine with him, crave for your hand to mesh into them. How selfish it is, to crave someone this bad, as if he has any right to call you his.
Your phone dings multiple times on your vanity, seemingly with messages and your mouth closes, eyes averting and his anticipation is stripped away, overtaken by disappointment at your fleeting attention.
“Sorry,” you mumble, picking up your phone and going through the notifications. Your brows slightly furrow, and he grows hatred for your phone.
“Is everything okay?” he asks at your lingering worry.
“Yeah um,” your fingers move across your screen as you type to a response to whatever stole your gazes from him “Niki is here?” you add and it comes out more as a question colored with bewilderment.
“Did you know he was coming?”
“No,” you lock your phone and stand up “I told him to come up. He wants to talk to me about something.” You explain further, heading towards your closet in search of clothes to wear. You pull a plain thick sweater over your head, hands reaching for a pair of shorts closest to your hand.
The sound of your door unlocking has Jake’s eyes slightly widening at the speed of your brother. Did he fucking teleport to your floor or what?
“Anyways it probably won’t be long so just stay here.” You add and he cocks a brow at your choice of clothing .
“Are you seriously wearing that?” he asks eyes trailing over your figure.
“Yeah, why?”
“You have been complaining about being cold all day and now you’re wearing shorts? Do you want to die?” you blink at him slowly “Change. Wear something warm.” He adds crossing his arms and tone stern unlike how he has been talking to you gently earlier, it’s slightly amusing and it has your lips twitching upwards.
“Yes boss.” You joke heading for your closet again and he rolls his eye and then your back faces him and you fail to see his smile, it’s adorned with affection.
After changing into thicker pajama pants and gaining a nod of approval from Jake, you make it out to your living room. Niki is on your couch and upon hearing the sound of your steps his eyes shift from the plastic bags on the floor to you. irritation paints his face quickly and you sigh warily.
“What the fuck yn?”
To be continued....

Oh absolutely, giving misogynists captive girlfriends/wives isn't going to fix anything. Being a little more misogynist to try to appease misogynists won't work.
But "giving any credence" is such an interesting phrase to use here, because it's so ambiguous and also accusatory. What does "giving credence" mean? Who has been doing it? What have they been advocating for? Who, for example, has been saying leftists should be more misogynist, and how?
I'm not alone in this confusion, either, there are several comments on the tweet who are equally perplexed.
The fact is that the left DOES NEED a better approach to people who are feeling lost, angry, and scared.
Alt-right "self-help" authors and programs are hugely popular. These predators target lost, scared, and angry people. They're cults, really. And no matter how much the left discusses things like "can we stop parroting bioessentialist bullshit because hey, men aren't destined to be misogynistic assholes"... these alt-right cultists don't ever even have to TALK TO a leftist to repeatedly hear "leftists hate you for being born white/male/rich/etc". I really can't get over how Rush Limbaugh popularized the term "feminiazi" and told an entire generation that feminists were angry man-haters when they literally are not. But that's exactly how the grift works!! I should know, I grew up in exactly this Rush Limbaugh kind of house!!
"Don't blame the hyper-wealthy for ruining the economy, blame women and foreigners for taking all the jobs! Don't blame the ruined economy when nobody wants to have kids anymore, blame the women! Don't blame patriarchy and all the misogyny it taught you when women avoid your misogynist ass, blame the women! Remember, the feminazis hate you!!"
So what to do?
On an interpersonal level, sometimes it can be really easy. This is a comment made to Innuendo Studios's video "How to Radicalize A Normie" on this exact topic (which I highly recommend watching).
"Hey, ex-alt-right member here. First, really like this series. I feel like you’re validating the radicalization that me and my male friends experienced. Putting it into words and showing us how we got tricked, exposing the magician and their tricks. Second, I vot out not through argument and discussion but actually through feelings. I was very edgy and would use the n-word in jokes all the time. My male friends would not call me out on it. But a female friend of mine said it made her uncomfortable and that she didn’t appreciate these jokes when we played fortnite together. That shook me to my core as I cared for my friend and that’s how my deradicaliztion started. Just wanted to add in this personal story, keep up the great work :)"
If this is someone you know, tell them their behavior is not cool.
THIS GOES DOUBLE FOR THE MEN READING THIS. Misogynists are more likely to listen to you than they are to listen to women!! If someone is being a shithead in your vicinity, consider: are you gonna let it slide? Or are you maybe, possibly, going to be the one thing that yanks them out of a hatespiral and prompts them to re-examine their hateful worldview? Tell them "hey not cool".
This might not work the first time. This might not work at all for some people. But if the situation is relatively safe, then it's worth trying.
And this does not mean that you personally are responsible for "centering men in your conversations" or "marginalized people putting in even more emotional labor" or "if a man is misogynist it's because you failed him" what the fuck ever like I've seen in this discourse. Come the fuck on.
It means you can probably try saying something to somebody you know. And if it doesn't work? You can say you tried.
On a policy level, we have more work to do. It shouldn't come as a surprise to any leftist that the current economic and political system in the USA exists to separate and exploit people. I think we all agree it really sucks to live in a system like this. Your average reactionary misogynist also thinks the system sucks, but as explained above, they've been trained to place the blame on some convenient scapegoats instead. Immigrants. Women. Queer people. Muslims. Anybody who's not white. Et cetera. "Government needs to get out of the way of smart people and then Elon Musk will build a utopia for The Faithful (which includes me) on Mars" or some shit.
These people need to hear that their anger is justified, but that their blame is misplaced. They need policies that will hold the responsible parties accountable. They need policies that won't leave them impoverished and isolated and exhausted after working a 40+ hour work week. They need to realize the system isn't sorting people into "the worthy rich" and "the unworthy poor", rather, that it's exploiting everyone except the wealth-owning class. They need to realize it's their politicians' biggest campaign donors that are doing this to them.
The Democratic Party needs to actually talk about this. I'll be dangerously pithy here: the Democratic Party needs to sound more like Bernie Fucking Sanders. Politicians need to oppose health insurance companies and get Medicare For All going. Politicians need to stop voting to give the military two fucking billion dollars every single day and fund free college and trade schools. Politicians need to tell business interests to fuck off and get a livable minimum wage AND a universal basic income passed, which will severely undercut employers' ability to exploit and isolate us.
And we need Citizens United repealed. Badly. I'm not trying to imply the problem is only with Republicans' campaign donors, because Democrats' biggest campaign donors are also often the same people exploiting us. But look at how Democrats did a tiny little bit of pro-union and anti-trust work these past 4 years and they screamed bloody fucking murder. If Democrats are relying on these people's money to get them elected, I think it's going to be really hard to get policies passed that will actually make USAmericans safer and happier (ie. address Republicans' economic fears that they keep blaming on various scapegoats).
Although with Republicans controlling the entire Federal government for the next two years minimum, this feels more distant than ever.
That's what we need to be taking seriously. If you don't give any credence to the fears and insecurities underlying the horrifying reactionary politics, you're not actually addressing anything. If you can't admit that capitalism fucks all of us over and makes all of us miserable and looking for a remedy, are you even a leftist?

hey elleeeee
could i pretty please do 🐻 the sharing a bed prompt, “cuddling in their sleep” + “waking up with their faces centimetres apart”. with remus but theyre not together just pinNING for eachother and this happens.
consider it done
Remus Lupin x roommate!reader who cuddle for warmth and that's totally it [641 words]
CW: fem!reader, Remus sort of pining, but maybe it's not one sided!?!?, fluff, sort of a continuation from this post
Remus thinks he should perhaps feel a little guilty having taken advantage of the current situation; his original offer certainly hadn’t been a selfless one.
Was the flat sodding freezing? Yes, it was. Would he have been up worrying all night that you’d died of hypothermia in your own bed? Absolutely. Was it indeed warmer having consolidated every blanket and pillow the two of you owned into one bed and sharing body heat to stay more comfortable? Damn right it was.
But, it was because of all these aforementioned reasons that Remus felt it was perhaps a touch unethical to be enjoying his current situation as much as he did.
The two of you were gripping each other’s hands and arms as if you were both afraid the other would simply float away had you not been holding on for dear life. The soft, cloud filtered light bathing your face in its glow; your head resting on one of his pillows he hoped to god smelled like you, now, that was but a few measly centimetres away from his own face.
He found himself nearly holding his breath as though he was afraid to disturb the peace of this moment, one that he'd been fighting against yet secretly yearning for since he realised how much he enjoyed your presence; perhaps a bit too much to be simply considered roommates, or even just friends.
He catalogued the way your eyelashes fanned from beneath your closed eyes and kissed the tops of your cheeks, fluttering ever so slightly when something would happen in your dream. He revelled in the way that you seemed to be smiling, even in your sleep; your lips relaxed and pursed ever so slightly as you breathed through your nose.
Your nose - it was stupid and foolish and silly, but fuck - he loved your nose.
And this might well and truly be the one and only time he got to enjoy you like this, so sue him for what he did next.
He hardly had to move at all, really, he simply pushed his chin forward so that his nose bumped into yours. He was checking, you see, because he knew his nose was cold from the cool air surrounding your nest of pillows and blankets and body heat, but he needed to see if yours was too. He couldn’t in good conscience sit here and admire your nose if you were about to lose it to frostbite, now could he?
Remus found himself smiling at the fact that your nose, for whatever reason, was slightly warmer than his. Good, he thought, I’d like her to keep her nose.
“You’re supposed t’be sleeping.” You blurt rather suddenly for Remus’ tastes, still never opening your eyes as Remus rears his head back, though you strengthen your hold on his hands and arms so that he can’t actually move away from you.
“How long have you been awake?” He accuses you instead of admitting he was being a creepy fuck and watching you sleep.
You don’t answer him, though. Instead, you let out a languid stretch before releasing your hold of his hands in favour of wrapping your arms around his torso and slotting yourself against him; legs tangled with his and your nose - colder than the skin of his collarbone - pushing into his neck as you tucked yourself under his chin.
“Go t’sleep, Rem.” You order him, tightening your hold around his chest as he allows his arms to cautiously encircle you in his own embrace; one hand splayed between your shoulder blades, and the other cupping the back of your head lovingly.
He didn’t follow your order, unfortunately. But he did spend the rest of the morning wondering, hoping, nearly begging the universe that perhaps this might not be the last time he gets to enjoy you like this.

The Rings We Keep Part 2
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem!FBI!Reader
Genre: fluff
Content warnings: none
Word count: 2.2K
Part 1
Two months had passed since the case ended, your team was spending more and more time assisting the BAU with their cases, and you were still adjusting to being known as Mrs. Reid. The BAU’s teasing had mostly subsided, but Penelope couldn’t help herself, sending you daily texts with variations of “How’s married life treating you, sugarplum?”
Spencer, of course, was blissfully oblivious to half the jokes. You envied his ability to compartmentalize. For you, the line between personal and professional felt increasingly blurred—especially when you came home to find him sitting on your couch, flipping through one of your dog-eared mystery novels like he belonged there.
“Hey,” you greeted, setting your go-bag on the floor.
“Hey,” he replied without looking up. “Your landlord called earlier. The leak in your bathroom should be fixed tomorrow.”
You blinked, caught off guard. “Uh, thanks?”
Spencer finally glanced up, his expression innocent. “It’s easier if they call me. You don’t always answer your phone.”
You narrowed your eyes. “Easier, huh?”
He shrugged. “Legally, I’m your emergency contact. Makes sense.”
Your chest tightened a mix of irritation and something warmer that you weren’t ready to name. Spencer had a way of making the most unconventional things seem logical—like casually fixing your plumbing situation as if it were just another bullet point on his to-do list.
You crossed the room, plopping onto the couch beside him. “You know this is weird, right?”
“What is?”
“This,” you gestured between the two of you. “Being married but… not married.”
Spencer tilted his head, considering your words. “It’s unconventional, sure. But it’s not weird. We work well together.”
“That’s not exactly the foundation of a marriage,” you pointed out, though your tone lacked bite. “Shouldn’t we—I don’t know—try to figure out what this actually is?”
Spencer’s brow furrowed. “You mean, like dating?”
The word hung in the air between you, heavy and full of possibility.
“Maybe,” you said, feeling your cheeks warm. “I mean, it might help. Get to know each other outside of work. Outside of… whatever this is.”
Spencer nodded slowly, his gaze thoughtful. “That’s logical. We could schedule something.”
“Schedule?” You laughed, the sound half nervous, half amused. “Spence, you don’t schedule a date. You just… go.”
His lips quirked in a small, sheepish smile. “Right. Of course.”
The First Date
Three days later, you found yourself sitting across from Spencer at a cozy little café near the library. He’d insisted on picking the place, and you hadn’t protested—it was quiet, intimate, and felt like him.
“I, um, wasn’t sure what you liked, so I ordered a variety,” Spencer said, gesturing to the spread of pastries between you. “There’s a 73% chance one of these is your favorite.”
You bit back a smile, reaching for a chocolate croissant. “Good guess.”
His shoulders relaxed slightly, and you realized he’d been nervous—an unusual look for someone so confident in every other aspect of his life.
“So,” you began, tearing off a piece of croissant. “Do we talk about work, or is that off-limits?”
Spencer shook his head. “It’s not off-limits, but we could talk about other things. Like… hobbies.”
“Hobbies,” you repeated, amused. “You mean like your extensive knowledge of obscure trivia?”
“Or your knack for solving puzzles,” he countered, a rare teasing tone in his voice.
You laughed, the sound drawing a faint smile from him. For the first time, the awkwardness began to fade, replaced by something warmer—something that felt almost like normalcy.
Navigating New Territory
Over the next few weeks, your dynamic shifted in subtle but undeniable ways. Spencer started leaving his favorite books on your nightstand, claiming they were “better than the ones you usually read.” You, in turn, introduced him to your guilty pleasure TV shows, relishing the way he tried (and failed) to resist getting invested in the drama.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
One evening, as you cooked dinner together—a rare occurrence, considering your busy schedules—Spencer reached for the salt just as you turned to grab a spoon. The collision was minor, but it left you both frozen, faces inches apart.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, stepping back quickly.
Spencer’s cheeks flushed. “No, it was my fault.”
The silence that followed was thick with unspoken tension. You busied yourself stirring the sauce, your mind racing. Was this what it felt like to be in a real marriage? The constant push and pull of closeness and uncertainty?
“I’ve been reading about communication in relationships,” Spencer said suddenly, his voice breaking the silence.
You raised an eyebrow. “Of course you have.”
“It says physical proximity is important,” he continued, his tone serious. “Small gestures, like holding hands, can build intimacy.”
You stared at him, torn between exasperation and affection. “Spence, are you saying we should hold hands more?”
He nodded, his expression earnest. “It might help.”
You sighed, setting down the spoon. “Alright. Let’s try it.”
Tentatively, you reached for his hand, lacing your fingers together. His skin was warm, his grip firm but careful.
“How’s this?” you asked, half-joking.
Spencer’s gaze met yours, and for a moment, the world seemed to narrow to just the two of you.
“Good,” he said softly. “It’s… good.”
A Step Forward
One night, after a particularly grueling case, you found yourself leaning against Spencer on the couch, too tired to care about boundaries. His arm was draped around your shoulders, and you realized with a start that it felt… nice. Comforting.
“You okay?” he asked, his voice low.
“Yeah,” you murmured, closing your eyes. “Just tired.”
He didn’t move, didn’t press for more. Instead, he simply held you, his presence steady and reassuring.
In that moment, you realized something had shifted—not just between you, but within you. This wasn’t just a marriage of convenience anymore. It was becoming something real, something worth fighting for.
And as you drifted off to sleep, Spencer’s voice echoed softly in your mind.
“I’ve got you.”
You believed him.
The Unspoken Shift
It was late one night when the shift finally happened when everything you and Spencer had been tiptoeing around finally came to a head. The case had been grueling—intense, dangerous—but in the end, the team had solved it. The adrenaline had faded, leaving an unfamiliar silence in its wake.
You were sitting on the couch in your small apartment, your mind still racing from the day’s events. You’d barely had time to think about anything beyond work in the past few weeks, but now, with the threat neutralized, everything came rushing back.
Spencer, on the other hand, seemed completely unaffected by the chaos. He was curled up in the armchair across from you, his laptop open in front of him, but his eyes weren’t on the screen. He kept glancing over at you, his face unreadable, as if there was something he wanted to say but didn’t know how to say it.
It was in moments like this that you found yourself wondering what this was between you—this odd marriage of convenience that had slowly morphed into something you couldn’t quite define.
We work well together, Spencer had said once, so casually that it hadn’t quite clicked at the time. Now, though, as you caught him looking at you again—this time with a sort of tenderness that made your heart skip a beat—you wondered if he meant more than just work.
You shifted on the couch, trying to distract yourself. You couldn’t allow yourself to think too deeply, not with everything that was still unresolved. But Spencer’s voice cut through the silence.
"Y/N, I... I think I need to apologize."
You froze, unsure if you had heard him correctly. "Apologize? For what?"
He hesitated, his fingers hovering over the keys of his laptop, but he didn’t look at the screen. Instead, his gaze lingered on you, serious and a little vulnerable. "For... for how distant I’ve been. I know I’ve been focused on the cases and... well, on myself too much." His lips tightened, as if he regretted the words before they even left his mouth. "I’ve been pushing you away without even realizing it. And I’m sorry."
You blinked, taken aback by his honesty. Spencer was never one to admit when he was wrong. He was always so logical, so composed. But tonight, something was different. There was a rawness in his voice that made your chest tighten, and you realized with a jolt that maybe you had been pushing him away too.
"You haven’t been distant, Spence," you said softly. "You’ve just been... you." The words felt heavier than you intended, but it was the truth. Spencer had always been focused, and driven, and even when he was there, he seemed so far away, locked in his own world.
"I know," he said, his voice low. "But that’s not an excuse. I—I should have been there more for you. You’ve been doing this alone, and that’s not fair."
You stared at him, processing what he had just said. Spencer Reid, always so sure of his intelligence and his work, was admitting—without words—that he wasn’t sure how to be a partner in this unconventional marriage. And as much as you wanted to brush it off, you couldn’t. You had been struggling with the same doubts.
“I didn’t ask for any of this,” you said quietly, motioning between the two of you. “This whole… marriage thing. It’s not what I expected, either. But that doesn’t mean I’m not trying.”
Spencer’s eyes softened, his expression vulnerable in a way you’d never seen before. “I know you are,” he said. “And that’s why I don’t want to mess this up. I don’t know what this is, but... I don’t want to lose it.”
There was a long pause as you both let the words settle. You felt the weight of everything that had been building up—the awkward moments, the shared glances, the near-kisses that you’d both avoided. But in that moment, you realized something: you didn’t want to keep avoiding it.
“I don’t want to lose it either,” you whispered, your voice barely audible.
Spencer inhaled deeply, his hand moving hesitantly toward yours. When his fingers brushed against yours, your pulse quickened. The touch was gentle, uncertain—but it felt like a promise, one you hadn’t even realized you were waiting for. The space between you seemed to shrink as if the universe itself was holding its breath.
"I think I—" Spencer started, but the words hung in the air, unspoken, because neither of you could say them aloud just yet. Instead, you reached for him.
You moved slowly, carefully, but when your lips met his, it wasn’t cautious. It wasn’t calculated. It was everything that had been building between you for the past two months. It was vulnerability and longing and the quiet admission that you couldn’t keep pretending anymore.
His lips were warm, soft, and he didn’t pull away, as if he was afraid you might disappear if he did. The kiss was tentative at first, but it deepened as you both leaned into it, the world around you fading until it was just the two of you. And for the first time in weeks, maybe months, you felt right. Not because the kiss had solved everything, but because in that moment, you finally felt seen.
When you pulled back, you rested your forehead against his, both of you breathing heavily. Spencer’s hands were still lightly touching your arms, as if he wasn’t sure what to do with them, but you didn’t want him to move. You didn’t want to break this moment of rawness between you.
“I... I’ve wanted that for a while,” Spencer said, his voice barely above a whisper.
You smiled, your heart racing. “I think I have too.”
For a moment, you simply stayed there, sitting together, breathing in the same air. You didn’t need to talk, didn’t need to say anything more. Everything had shifted, in a way that felt both terrifying and liberating at the same time.
You were no longer just coworkers. You weren’t just a married couple in name. In that kiss, you had taken the first step into something more. Something real.
And for the first time, you believed Spencer when he said he didn’t want to lose this.
The Quiet Moments After
The days after your first kiss were a mix of confusion and excitement. There was still tension between the work you did and the lives you were building together, but somehow it felt more manageable now. You and Spencer began finding ways to open up to each other—slowly, carefully, but with more and more honesty.
You would catch Spencer looking at you with that same soft expression as if he was still trying to figure out the person sitting beside him, but there was no hesitation anymore. No pulling away.
He didn’t say much, but his actions spoke volumes. Whether it was bringing you your favorite coffee when he knew you were having a rough day or simply sitting beside you on the couch, his presence had started to mean more. And with each passing moment, each new shared experience, you felt your connection deepening.
Maybe this wasn’t the marriage you had expected. But maybe, just maybe, it was the one you needed.

I hate BPD so much, i hate it so much, i just want it to stop being like this.
I'll just go to sleep maybe I'll dream something nice but my god i hate my brain so much I don't even know who i am or what i need, i just want to feel okay i feel like im never enough for anyone. Im just tired and scared,ni hate how life isn't like the movies, i want my life to be a big fiction where im the protagonist, i watch movies and series and i just feel so much jealousy.
I wonder where my friends are, i wonder where my parents are. I wonder where's that childhood I've always wanted. I know I only have one chance to be alive and this is what i get? Remembering my childhood with a 8 year old me begging my mom to kill me bc i didn't want to keep being alive, i just wanted life to end at the tender age of 8 years old and my mom only laughed at me. And my dad doesn't even love me, he never did, i hate him so much as much as he hates me or even more. Idk what to do.
I ain't no perfect human, I'll never be as im sick since i was born and everywhere ill go I'll disgust everyone. Idk what to do anymore. I just want this suffering to stop. Talking isn't useful either, i just want some lovely arms to rest on and feel like I'm in the home i never had.
I hate to know how tough it is to have someone with mental illness as your friend or family, i hate to know im a burden and i hate to know that nobody will actually relate to any of my interests. The world should have stopped in 2015. i envy people that have friends and still do that bullshit of "no, im fine" and say internally "oh i love them, they're so lovely but I'll just keep quiet so i don't bother them" and their friends and family would die to know their state, selfish bullshit, i know you're sad and all but where tf did you get that idea??! I literally would die for your situation. My lord. I wish i could just have what you have. I wish i was skinny, i wish i was innocent, i wish i was a kid again and stop everything that's coming to me, i wish i had born somewhere else, i wish i wasn't me, i wish my brain wasn't like this, i wish nobody hated me, i wish i didn't hate everyone, i wish i could live, i wish my dad love me, i wish my family love me, i wish everyone love me, i wish i was a good person, i wish i was somewhere else.
I won't accept im 20 next year, I won't accept my life is ruined, I won't accept i am still alive.
I wanna be an idle teen. Something i couldn't even do. Im that autistic girl that died in her couch, that's me, it's just that nobody know it, nobody knows my parents don't care enough, nobody knows i drop off school bc of bullying and depression at 13 and that i rot in my bed.
The whole, "K*lling urself is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" bullshit is spouted by the ignorant lucky ones who have only had temporary problems. Some people's problems are permanent so maybe try offering actual help and support to them rather than regurgitating an overused phrase that means nothing to people with real struggles.

I got some thoughts spinning from seeing how Drew looks as Eugene in Queer with glasses and all. So Soft Nerdy Rafe request? Very golden retriever-y, a bit shy and sweet. Maybe they are making out for the first time and….sweet nerdy rafe….switches up….not so shy. Ahhh it’s such a weakness when shy boys just become so forward, manly and give into their desires 💘🥹
a/n: AHHHHH! im so happy that you requested a nerd!rafe!!!!! i hope you like it ⭐️
the library was quiet, the faint hum of fluorescent lights blending into the soft rustle of pages and distant murmurs. rafe cameron sat across from you, his glasses sliding down his nose as he frowned at the notebook in front of him. he was chewing on the edge of his thumb, a nervous habit you’d grown fond of, though it made you wonder if he realized how obvious he was being.
“you’re gonna wear your skin raw if you keep doing that,” you teased, nudging his foot under the table.
he looked up, startled, like you’d caught him mid-crime. “oh. right. sorry.” he dropped his hand, fiddling with his pen instead. “i’m just—this doesn’t make sense. none of it makes sense. why is calculus even a thing?”
you smiled, leaning forward to peek at his notes. his handwriting was neat, but his equations were a jumbled mess, arrows pointing in all directions. “you’re overthinking it,” you said, your voice soft. “here, look. you just forgot to carry the one.”
rafe groaned, his head falling onto the table with a dramatic thud. “i’m hopeless.”
“you’re not hopeless.”
“i am. you should just give up on me now.” his words were muffled by the wood, but you could still hear the pout in his voice.
“rafe.”
he peeked up at you, his cheek smushed against the table. “what?”
“you’re adorable when you’re dramatic, but you’re not hopeless.”
his face flushed a deep red, and he sat up quickly, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “i’m not adorable,” he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.
“you are,” you said, leaning back in your chair. “but if you really want to prove me wrong, maybe stop staring at my lips and focus on your math.”
his eyes went wide, his ears turning pink. “i wasn’t—I wasn’t staring at your lips!”
“you were,” you said, smirking. “it’s okay, though. i don’t mind.”
he opened his mouth to argue, then closed it again, his throat bobbing as he swallowed hard. “you don’t?”
“nope.”
the air between you shifted, the tension palpable now. rafe’s gaze flicked to your lips again, this time more deliberate, and his hands fidgeted with the hem of his sweater.
“you know,” you said, breaking the silence, “you could just kiss me instead of acting like you’re solving a physics problem.”
his jaw dropped, and for a second, you thought he might actually combust. “i—i could?”
you laughed softly, reaching across the table to take his hand. “come here, rafe.”
he stood slowly, his movements awkward and unsure, like he wasn’t entirely convinced this was real. when he rounded the table and slid onto the bench beside you, his knee bumped yours, and he froze, looking at you with wide, anxious eyes.
“is this… okay?” he asked, his voice barely audible.
“more than okay,” you said, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze.
he hesitated for a moment longer, then leaned in, his lips brushing yours in the softest, most tentative kiss you’d ever experienced. his hands hovered near your waist, not quite touching, like he wasn’t sure where they belonged.
you deepened the kiss, your hand moving to his cheek, and he made a small, needy sound that sent a shiver down your spine. slowly, his hands settled on your hips, his grip uncertain at first but growing firmer as the kiss went on.
his lips were warm and slightly chapped, moving against yours in a rhythm that was both clumsy and endearing. but as the moments stretched, something shifted.
rafe pulled back just enough to catch his breath, his chest rising and falling as he looked at you with an expression that was equal parts awe and hunger. “is this… is this okay?” he asked again, his voice trembling.
“yes, rafe,” you whispered, your fingers threading through his hair.
that seemed to be all the reassurance he needed. when he kissed you again, it wasn’t tentative or shy—it was bold, almost desperate. his hands slid up your sides, his thumbs brushing the edges of your ribs, and his body pressed closer to yours, eliminating the small space that had existed between you.
you gasped against his lips, and he swallowed the sound, his confidence growing with each passing second. his glasses slipped down his nose again, but he didn’t seem to care, too focused on the way your lips moved against his.
“you’re so… perfect,” he murmured between kisses, his voice low and husky now, a far cry from the nervous stammering he’d started with.
your heart pounded in your chest, and you couldn’t help but smile against his lips. “you’re not so shy anymore.”
he pulled back just enough to look at you, his glasses crooked and his lips kiss-swollen. “guess you bring it out of me,” he said, a crooked grin spreading across his face.
“oh, so now you’re cocky?”
“maybe a little.” his grin widened, and he leaned in again, his lips finding yours with renewed fervor.
the kiss grew hungrier, his hands exploring more boldly now. one slid up to cup your face, his thumb brushing your cheek, while the other found the small of your back, pulling you flush against him.
you let out a soft moan, and he responded with a low groan that vibrated against your lips. it was like a switch had flipped—gone was the shy, bumbling rafe, replaced by someone who knew exactly what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to take it.
his tongue traced the seam of your lips, asking for permission, and when you parted them, he deepened the kiss with a confidence that made your head spin.
“God,” he muttered, his voice breathless. “you’re incredible.”
you were too dazed to respond, your fingers tangling in his hair as he kissed you like his life depended on it.
time seemed to blur, the world outside the library fading away until there was nothing but the feel of his lips on yours and the steady thrum of his heartbeat against your palm.
when he finally pulled back, his cheeks were flushed, his glasses fogged up, and his sweater slightly askew. “sorry,” he said, though the satisfied grin on his face suggested he wasn’t sorry at all.
“for what?” you asked, still catching your breath.
“for not doing that sooner.”
you laughed, pulling him in for another kiss. “you’re such a dork.”
“your dork,” he murmured against your lips, and you couldn’t help but smile.
“yeah,” you said, your voice soft. “mine.”

Wanting for More (Ekko x gn!reader)
Warnings: None
Genre: Fluff
Fandom: Arcane
Summary: Ekko sees you asleep and covers you with a blanket
Word count: 767
•••
You both had lost track of time, that was obvious. You two had been working on something in Ekko's workplace for a few hours, and a while ago you decided to take a break and lie down for a bit.
He'd been really concentrated in his work, but he suddenly realized he hadn't heard you in a while, so he decided to take a look at you, only to find out you'd fallen asleep. He couldn't help but smile at the sight of you, looking so peaceful and dreamy. This wasn't the first time Ekko got lost in his thoughts while staring at you, it was quite common actually, or it had been lately at least.
There was something more than just friendship between you two, you both knew that. But neither of you had the courage to do something about it, and both of you were scared, too. It seemed easier to not act on your feelings and just enjoy the relationship you already had, but the wanting for more was starting to be unbearable for him. He wanted you to be his, as much as he wanted to be yours.
No one understood him like you did, and no one supported him and trusted him like you did. You two had known each other for years now, since you were one of the first ones to join the Firelights, and from that day his life was never the same again. Ekko was genuinely happy when you were around, he saw hope in you, maybe even a future together. When you two were together, he wasn't the Firelights' leader, he was just Ekko, he could relax around you. In a world like yours, having someone like that was a privilege.
He got out of his thoughts when he realized you were curled up into a ball, clearly cold. He quickly got up and looked for a blanket, and when he found it he covered you with it. He got down to your level, next to the bed, and put a strand of hair behind your ear, putting it away from your face and leaving his hand on your shoulder. He smiled again, feeling grateful for having you in his life and being able to share these little moments.
You got a bit startled by his touch and slowly opened your eyes, seeing Ekko at eye level with you.
"Hey," you said in almost a whisper, and he replied with a shy smile. "How long have I been asleep?"
"I have no idea, I just found you a couple minutes ago", he replied, while caressing your shoulder a bit.
You still felt sleepy, but you could see how tired he was, his eyes could never lie, and definitely not to you.
"You should get some sleep, Ekko", you told him. "Here, I'll move so you can fit in here." You did as you said, leaving space for him to hop on the bed and lie down next to you. This wasn't uncommon between the two of you, but lately the tension in these moments had become obvious, even if you tried to ignore it. Still, you were so tired you didn't really care right now, you just wanted to go back to sleep.
"I should keep working."
"Just shut up and come here, working can wait." He was a very self-demanding person, but he knew you were right, so he took off his shoes and did as you said.
You ended up being face to face, and you could feel your heart beating really fast, like it was gonna explode. You closed your eyes and you rested your head on his shoulder. "Thank you for the blanket", you murmured, loud enough for him to hear.
"Anytime", he answered, wrapping his arm around you.
You closed your eyes and enjoyed his warmth and his touch, wishing you could stay like this forever. It didn't take long for you to fall asleep again, and he could tell from the way you were breathing. He gave you a little kiss on the forehead, savouring every second with you in his arms.
"You mean the world to me", he whispered. He imagined sleeping like this every night and couldn't help but smile. He knew life was hard and that the world was dangerous, but he also knew he couldn't live in fear and put a stop to his own life just to help and save others. He knew he had to tell you how he felt, and find a bit of hope with you amongst all the chaos that surrounded you.

Poison: part 2
Summary: Coriolanus always hated Sejanus Plinth. He had everything that Coriolanus should of had; money, influence, and you.
Warnings: Coryo being de-lu-lu, unrequited love, Reader insert, dark!Coriolanus snow, unedited, dead dove to not eat
Word count: 15,053
Part 1 here
Part 3 coming.
Coriolaus wakes early the next morning and races to the Citadel to drop off Dr Gauls homework.
He carried his anxiety about Dr Gauls potential comments along with him to his session with Lucy-Grey.
He struggled to sit still, twirling his pen around and around in his hand. It was not how he wanted to present himself to Lucy-gray.
What he wanted was her trust, her loyalty, her obedience. Things that would be hard to gain if he gave off a school-boy impression.
Instead he forced his nails into the palm of his hand under the table, and tried to focus on Lucy-Gray as she spoke.
“I am sorry about your friend”, she offered.
“Thank you”, he returned.
“That other girl. Was she okay? The guards whisked you away so fast. I couldn’t see-”.
Something about her asking about you made Coriolanus irritated.
He supposed it was just the image it brought back. The sheer shock upon your face, the fear that he wouldn’t get to you in time.
“She’s fine”, he interrupted. His pen began twirling in his hand again.
He wished he could have seen you this morning to check on you. You most likely woke up in the arms of Sejanus. He wouldn’t check on you like he should. His first words would have been complaints about the games.
He shouldn’t be here really. Who choses mentoring a boy sure to die rather than taking care of you at home. Coriolanus bet he made no protest when you got ready for school.
If it had been Coriolanus, as it should be, he would have ensured you stayed home in bed. He wouldn’t have left your side after yesterday. He wouldn’t have even let you be there yesterday.
First Sejanus causes the wound, and then he isn’t man enough to take care of you properly. How sweet it will be, the day you finally belong to Coriolanus Snow.
“I need you to sing in these interviews. It’s your last chance to win people over. I can’t send you gifts in the area without their money”, he states.
“Maybe a guitar could persuade me. Maybe”, Lucy-gray offers.
“Snow. Dovecote” Dean highbottom calls.
Coriolanus whips around to see Peacekeepers waiting for them by the door.
He could piece the clues together to come to the conclusion that Dr Gaul had called them.
Clemmie on the other hand waited until they were climbing the Citadel steps to ask her obvious question.
“She can’t actually have expected us to write that report. Could she? I was crying for hours last night”.
Corionaus sighs. If Clemmie had kept her mouth shut he would have been next to you. You’d be nervous and in need of comfort, no matter how tough you talked.
“We did write it. I handed it in this morning”, he states.
This time Clemmie sighed, “Great, give me the highlights”.
Coriolanus obliged her if only to keep his mind focused. His bullet points took him up the entry stairs and through the doorway to Dr Gauls lab.
The lab exceeded coriolanus horrific expectations.
It was cold and the large space only housed a long corridor of strange creatures in glass cabinets.
Coriolanus taps the casing of a fish-type creature only to see if it moves.
Its eyes shoot open only for a second before falling back into a drugged sleepy state.
What exactly was Dr Gaul doing? What were these things? For what purpose could they be used for?
“Mr Snow. Ms Dovecote. Come and see my new babies”. Dr Gaul's voice boomed in the empty space.
Coriolaus left the fish, following Clemmie as Dr Gaul led them to a new section and over to a large tank of colorful serpents.
The rainbow moved within the glass in perfect sync. It was hard to tell where one snake started and another ended.
“Is there a point to the color?”Clemmie asked.
Dr Gaul scoffs at her as she ascends the stairs to the top of the glass cage.
“There’s a point to everything, Ms Dovecote, or nothing at all”, Dr Gauls answers.
She spins to face the children, and rests against the side of the enclosure.
“I must say I was expecting Miss y/n, in your place Ms Dovecott”.
“As I said, Dr Gaul, Coriolanus and I do all our assignments together”, Clemmie defended.
“Which is exactly why I was expecting the other one”. Dr Gauls eyes flick to Coriolanus, “exactly, which part did you write Miss Dovecott?”.
Coriolanus tries to pull Clemmie out of the hole she was in but Clemmie talks over top of him.
“There was-”.
“I was inspired by Coriolanus, of course. But the sponsorships, and the gifts in the arena. They were all mine”, she cut him off.
“Clemmie”, he warns. Dr Gaul already knew she played no part. Lying to her would only aggravate her sadistic tenancies.
Dr Gual takes the bait. Crossing her hands in an almost gleeful manner she addresses Clemmie.
“So it’s your sweaty handwriting on that page? Very impressive, Miss Dovecote”, Dr Gauls fawns.
Coriolanus knew it was a tease. He anticipated the come down and the potential consequences of her lie.
“Unfortunately’, Dr Gaul continues, “My assistant mistook it for trash and lined the shelf of this very terrarium with it”.
Dr Gaul slides back the hatch to show the students the paper that was trapped between the snakes.
“Retrieve it for us, won't you? So we might all consider your inspired ideas”, Dr Gaul smiles.
Coriolanus hand twitched. He imagines you in Clemmies place now. How close he would have pulled you. How his own hands would latch themselves over yours and shield them against your chest.
He wondered if he should do the same for Clemmie. She was an old friend, and her grades helped him to the top.
Still he only stood back and watched. Half-Curious as to what would happen.
The snakes couldn't be poisonous. Dr Gaul wouldn’t play with a students life. Especially a student from a high status family like Clemmie’s.
Maybe. Coriolanus thinks back to the weird, mutated animals that lined the hallway. There was really no telling what Dr Gaul was capable of.
“Don’t worry. My little predators are perfectly docile with those they can trust. So if they’re used to your scent, if you’ve handled their food, for example, or if they have inhaled the sweat of your palm on a page..they’ll leave you alone. If not, You’d be on your own, little girl”.
Coriolanus knew from her words that Dr Gaul words were a threat. Those Snakes would harm Clemmie.
Yet she reached her hand into the enclosure.
“Clemmie!” Coriolanus grits.
He is ignored to her own peril.
As soon as her hand brushes against the edge of the page, a Snake lashes out and strikes the flesh that proposes to retrieve the paper.
Clemmie screams upon impact. Trying desperately to shake the snake from her hand, she loses balance and topples off the stand.
“Clemmie! No, no!” Coriolanus attempts to catch her as she falls, but Dr Gaul hinders him by pulling him back by his arm.
She lands with a heavy thud on her back. Gasps fill the air as she tires to regain her breath.
Already she looked pale. The skin on her hand turned a pale green color, and her eyes refused to blink or look anywhere else but directly in front of her.
“You asked about the colors, Ms Dovecott. I want my enemies to see a rainbow of destruction engulfing the world. I am not above using spectacle to create a little terror. A strategy your classmate here articulated very well in his proposal”.
Coriolanus watches as two peacekeepers and assistant come running over. The assistant administered a large needle which helped Clemmie regain her breath but not her composition.
The Peacekeepers then, without care, began to drag Clemmie across the floor and out a near door.
Coriolanus was left alone with Dr Gaul who turned her attention to him.
“I wonder if y/n would have chosen the same decision?”, she questioned.
“Will she die?” Coriolanus asked in a hard tone. More than Dr Gaul mentioning you, he hated the image of you lying in Clemmies place.
Dr Gaul shrugs her shoulders as if it didn’t really matter.
“The pleasure of breaking ground in one’s research is one gets to find out”, she dismissed.
She smirks as she turns back to the enclosure. Her hand reaches in and she begins to play with her pet snakes.
“You don’t like me talking about her do you?”, Dr Gaul picks up a loose piece of paper and thrusts it at Coriolanus, “for a boy who came up with these proposals, you sure do wear your heart on your sleeve”.
The paper crumbles in Coriolanus' grip. He looks at it to avoid eye contact with Dr Gaul.
“What would Miss y/n think if she saw them? They’re good, these proposals. I am planning to implement as many as possible”.
This causes Coriolanus to look up at Dr Gaul. If you knew, you were sure to never forgive him.
“Don’t worry” Dr Gaul said, as if she could read his mind, “I’ll take credit for this one. Miss y/n is yet to realize her place in this world”.
Dr Gaul closes the hatch to the snakes enclosure, turning her body towards Coriolanus.
“And who is to be beside her, wouldn’t you say?”, she taunts.
Coriolanus straightens up, dropping the ruined paper to the ground.
“Y/n isn’t part of this conversation”, Coriolanus snaps.
Dr Gaul grins at him in response, stepping closer so she could talk quieter but still be heard.
“We both want a new world, Mr Snow. My only question is how far are you willing to go to get it?’
She doesn’t let him answer. Seemingly, now bored of the conversation.
“Now run along, you have an arena to promote and it’s time for my milk and crackers”, she dismisses.
He takes the chance to leave. Storming down the steps and back along the hallway as fast as he could.
Coriolanus tries to keep himself from running out of the Citadel. He nearly stumbles over his feet trying to get out as quick as he can.
Turning behind him every so often to make sure no one was following him.
The whole scene plays in his mind again and again.
He was glad it wasn’t you in the end. You were already so traumatized after yesterday, it was a relief to not have to put you through that ordeal.
The walk through of the arena was not for another hour. He had time to check on you.
He was sure you were at school. Your parents wouldn’t let Sejanus into the house, and you wouldn’t have left Sejanus after yesterday. There was little chance you would have stayed at the Plinths. A smaller chance of Sejanus forcing you to as he should have.
Suddenly, Sejanus’ lack of care turned out to be a good thing.
Sejanus would be with his mentor getting ready for the tour. Which meant Coriolanus could see you without company.
He knew your class schedule well. He liked the knowledge while he was in one class, he knew which one you were in.
So he knew where to go and wait until the bell rang.
A group of people rushed out of the classroom before you. You were the only one walking alone so you were easy to spot.
You almost walk past him but he grabs your wrist and pulls you out of the line of people to a quiet staircase.
“Coriolanus?” you question.
You don’t fight him as he pulls you against the wall and stands in front of you like a shield.
The people who walk past eye the scene but make nothing of it.
“Coriolanus, are you okay?” you question.
He couldn’t tell you about Clemmie and Dr Gaul but he was also so desperate for comfort.
“Is it Arachne?” you ask. He nods his head ‘yes’ although his mind was far from it.
You put your hand that was free from the weight of your books on his shoulder.
“It’s not your fault’’, you console.
“I just wish I could have done more”, he lied.
He had thought little about Arachne since last night. But she was once again bringing you closer to him.
You shake your head, a sad expression pulls across your face and he instantly regrets his lie. Yesterday was traumatic to you, he shouldn't have played it up just for some sympathy.
“No” you repeat, “what happened was no one's fault but her own”.
He wanted to make the argument that perhaps the fault lies with no one else but the tribute, but it would open a conversation he did not want to have.
Instead he reaches up and places his hand on your elbow that had reached out to him.
“Are you okay?” he asks. It should have been his first question.
“I am fine” you say.
Your hand drops from his shoulder and he is forced to put his hand on the brick wall next to your hip.
The position wedged you in a corner. With his tall frame towering over you and now his arm blocking you in. It felt as if you were trapped.
“You should talk to someone. Arachne was your friend”, you state.
You shuffle slightly forward to hint to him that he was too close but he remains stagnant in his place.
“Arachne was not my friend”, he deflects.
You never liked her which meant Coriolanus never liked her.
“You're my friend. Arachne was just someone I grew up with. I hardly knew her”, Coriolanus tried a softer tone as his previous speech came off harder than intended.
He offered a kind smile that you did not return.
“I’ve been worried about you all day” he breathes.
His hand moves to your hip, and you are quick to push it off.
“Coriolanus you are acting strange, perhaps you should go see the school doctor. No one would blame you if you chose to drop out of mentoring after yesterday”.
Strange you called it. Not a man desperately in love. But a mad man that needs to be taken away.
This causes him to take a step back away from you. His eyes go down to the ground but shoot back up at you. Mentoring. In a haste he checks his watch.
He was supposed to be at the Arena in fifteen minutes but he is twenty minutes away.
He groans, cursing the length of the Citadel from here, and cursing your late class.
“I have to leave”, he says, “i just came to make sure you were okay”.
“I am”, you acknowledge.
He steps forward again, placing his hands on your shoulder blades and pulling you forward into his chest.
You stumble into him, timidly raising your hands to pat his lower back.
“Forget your last class, you should go home”, he begs.
He feels you push back against him so he lets you go and takes a step back.
“You should worry more about yourself. You look so pale”.
When you reach out to touch his forehead, he leans into your touch. Loving the way your little warm hand felt.
He knew it didn’t mean anything. You were kind. He could have been anyone and you would have done the same thing.
Still he allows himself a second of pretend that it meant more.
“I have to go”, he says again, “Just promise me that you’ll go home”.
“Sure, Coriolanus”, you amuse.
It was enough to hear it. He didn’t need to believe it.
With a final smile, he reaches up to touch your elbow once more and leaves you in the dark corner.
His run to the arena would have been easier for him if he had any fuel to burn.
His breakfast of a single potato did not provide enough energy to make the distance, yet he pushed himself further than his body wanted him to.
It paid off when he reached the arena just in time for walk-in.
He filed in next to Lucy-Grey seconds before the doors opened.
“I didn’t think you were going to make it”, lucy-Grey admits.
“We’re going to win this” Coriolanus vows, “Together”.
The arena is dark. An ominous red glow from the ticket vendor invites them in.
The camera crew are already there, pointing their large frames in the faces of the tributes.
Lucy-Grey smiles at it, before it pans to a Solomon looking Sejanus walking behind his tribute.
When the shutters open, the streaming light startles Lucy-Grey who pulls back against Coriolanus.
He steadies her, looking around for possible strategies.
“Please” Lucy-Grey grabs his arm to turn him towards her, “Please, Coriolanus, don’t let me die in here tomorrow”.
Before he can answer he is knocked off his feet by a large explosion. He feels heavy gusts of wind from three other directions meaning there was no safe direction he could turn too.
Lucy-Grey lands beside him, and he scrambles to help her to her feet.
The dust is heavy and clouds them. He could feel lucy-gray in his grasp but could only faintly see her. The screams and commotion make it impossible to hear what she is trying to say.
Another loud explosion tore the roof down over them.
He releases Lucy-gray so they could both run for cover.
Days of the war spring to his memory. The rebels were back to finish him off.
The force of the explosion knocked him off balance and onto the floor.
He could see peoples feet as they scramble past but none stop to help him.
A louder, cracking noise spoke of his bigger issue and he turns to see a large pailing coming down towards him.
Knowing he wouldn't have enough time to get to his feet, he began to crawl as fast as he could.
It wasn’t fast enough. The hot metal pailing pins his shoulder to the ground. He could smell his own flesh burning as he lay trapped.
Was this how it ended? He regrets not kissing you today. He had always been reserved. Afraid of your rejection. But he should have just took. Now he’ll die without ever getting to taste you.
Through the smoke he could see Lucy-Grays boots come into view.
“Help me” he begs. He still had so much to do.
She looks to be bending down to assist when she is interrupted by Marcus flying across towards the open door.
“Leave him” he demands, “He wouldn’t save you”.
Marcus doesn’t stick around for her decision. Running to his freedom just across the room.
It was true, if it come down to it Coriolanus would save himself. But Lucy-Gray needed him to survive. She would only get caught in the Capitol and then thrown in the area without a mentor.
She must have realized that too because she bent back down to lift the burning metal off Coriolanus. She didn’t have to lift it far for Coriolanus to roll out from under it.
He is panting heavily he realizes, and is unable to move his shoulder. When Peacekeeper came to take lucy-gray away. Coriolanus couldn’t even rise from the floor to stop them.
He throws out his good hand in an attempt to do something. But the searing pain in his shoulder and his cloudy head hindered him from being able to help.
The last image he could see was her looking down at her burnt hands before it all went black.
His pounding headache woke him to the sight of you by his bed.
He didn’t believe it. He had to be dead.
His hand lashes out to take a hold of your wrist. You felt real.
Your reaction seemed real. A startled look of surprise and discomfort.
“Woah, Corio, take it slow”, the voice of Tigres calls to him.
He looks away from your face to see Tigres sitting in the chair next to you.
“What?” Coriolanus questioned, “What happened?”.
He lets go of your wrist only so he could rise from the bed. The ache in his shoulder becoming more apparent as he moved.
“It was a rebel bombing. They must have been planning it for months. Four tributes were killed”.
Coriolanus almost scowls hearing his voice.
Sejanus sat in a chair positioned on the other side of the bed. You hadn’t come to him in his hour of need. You were merely tagging along with your boyfriend.
“Everyone is terrified, Corio” Tigres explains, “Fliex Ravenstill is on life support”.
“The rebels released a message. They said they want to tear down the symbol of the Hunger Games. Marcus got out. He’s the only one. Peacekeepers are hunting him in the streets but at least he has a better chance out there than he would tomorrow”, Sejanus gravely mutters.
“Tomorrow?” Coriolanus expounds, “They’re not still going ahead with the Games?”
“We can’t look weak in front of the enemy,” you spat, “Everything is going ahead as scheduled. I don’t even know if Lucy-Gray will be able to play tonight”.
“The interviews”, Coriolanus guessed, still hazy.
He pulls himself up out of bed, holding out his arm for you to help his rise.
You do, automatically, hooking his good arm over your shoulder and wrapping your arm across his waist to keep him up.
‘‘You shouldn’t get out of bed”, you criticize him.
Normally he wouldn’t ignore you, but the interviews started fifty minutes ago.
Sejanus rises to in order to assist Coriolanus as he shuffles forward, but Coriolanus barks another order at him.
“Sejanus, turn the Tv to the interviews”.
Like a good dog, he obeys. Leaving another man hanging onto his girlfriend.
“Careful, Corio” Tigres directs.
Coriolanus takes tigres arm as he couldn’t lift his shoulder so all his weight wasn’t passed on to you.
The Tv turns just in time to watch Lucy-gray come out with a guitar, and a big smile.
Sejanus makes his way over to you, offering to take your place as Coriolanus’ anchor.
He is quick to speak for you. Stating that the change would topple him to the floor.
Sejanus relents and takes his place beside you. You made no complaints so Coriolanus’ weight couldn’t have been hurting you.
Coriolanus had missed the opening introduction due to Sejanus, but was now focused enough as Lucy-Gray went into her song.
“Where did she get the guitar?” Coriolanus asks. He had been too busy to organize her one before the bombing.
“I brought it for her”, you answer, “i went to see if she was okay after the bombing and she said she needed a guitar for her interview. Said she’ll feel naked without it”.
“Thank you. That was very kind”, Coriolanus commended softly.
Coriolanus always knew someday that you and him would make a great team.
Your eyes are trained on Lucy-gray, and Coriolanus followed suit.
She sang about a boy back home and a betrayal. Was that what she was referring to when she said it was complicated back home. Will she fight with everything she had in her or does she secretly hope that she will die just to spite her past lover.
It was additional stress Coriolanus could have lived without.
“The poor girl” you mutter with tears rolling down your face.
Coriolanus squeezes your shoulders in comfort.
‘She’ll be okay” he promises. He would ensure it for his own survival and your personal satisfaction now that you and his tribute were friendly.
“Thank you for being here”, he says looking down at you, before turning his sights to Tigres, “All of you”.
“It’s what friends do”, Sejanus answers. The only person Coriolanus was not speaking to.
“I don’t think you should be standing”, you say, trying to turn Coriolanus back to bed.
He allows you to lead him there where you tuck him back into bed.
You ruin the moment by going straight back into Sejanus’ arms once Coriolanus has settled.
“We’ll leave you to rest” Sejanus states.
He looked too unhappy for a man who held you in his arms.
“Goodnight” he bids, ‘and y/n, thank you for helping Lucy-Gray tonight”.
Her performance wouldn't have been half as moving with the soft, sad melody accompanying it.
“Good luck, Coriolanus. I hope she wins”, you remark.
With the Plinth prize and the love of his life on the line; lucy-gray was going to be the 10th annual winner of the Hunger Games.
Coriolanus just had to figure out how to give her a competitive edge.
He visited the zoo later that night after scouting out the new arena. With four tributes already dead and the new tunnels revealed, the bombing may have been the best thing that had ever happened to him.
“Lucy-gray!” he calls softly, “Lucy-gray!”
He can hear the pounding of her footsteps as they come closer. He checks for Guards and woken tributes as she made unnecessary noise. None were aroused so he remained in his spot.
“You’re alive!” She exclaims as she nears the fence.
“Those bombs have changed everything”, he wastes no time to explain his purpose here, “They blew the walls out. So that means you can escape up into the stands. Theres a hole down in the floor, it leads down to some tunnels. You can escape there, I tried it.So the moment you hear that bell ring, you run as fast as you can for that hole and find a palace to hide down below alone”.
‘Alone? No, jessups my friend”, she argues.
He shakes his head ‘no’.
“The moment that bell rings, you can’t trust anyone. Not even jessup. Just lay low down there until its safe to come out”, he demands.
Couldn't she see that she was risking not only her own life, but his, with her undying loyalty.
“Thank you. You and y/n have been so nice to me. I don’t know what I would have done without you both”, Lucy-Grey declares, “I don’t know how i’ll ever pay you back for your kindness”.
“You can win”, Coriolanus orders, “you winning will be life changing for y/n and I. We can finally live the life we want to live. When you win, you’ll win for all of us”.
‘I’ll try, but-” she begins but never finishes as Coriolanus cuts her off.
“Theres no ‘buts’. Theres no other option”, he asserts.
Lucy-Gray begins to cry from the pressure of it all.
“Hey”, he whispers in sympathy.
“I am sorry. I am more hopeful in the day light but when it gets to night”, she whimpers.
“It’s okay” he consoles, reaching for his handkerchief in his pocket. The same one he used to wipe your tears, he now used to wipe the tears of Lucy-gray.
“We are going to win, Lucy-Gray. I promise.”.
“Y/n, real lucky to have a friend like you” Lucy-gray comments.
He knew that. Who else would be willing to risk everything for your happiness. It didn’t even bother him that Lucy-gray referred to him as your friend.
All that matters is that someone else realizes the depth of his love.
“I am very lucky to have her”. He breaths. He was cautious to say too much.
“Look, that song, I need to know that you are serious about winning”, he demands.
“That song? That was just pay back, that’s all”, she defenders, “my old boyfriend Billy taupe was cheating on me with the mayor's daughter. She got crazy jealous, had her pa read my name out on stage, and now everyone will know what they did to me”.
The look upon her face told him that she was serious, so he reached into his breast pocket to pull out his most prized possession.
“Here” he shoves the compact into Lucy’s-Grays hand.
“I can’t” she resists, “It’s too fine”
He clasps his hands over hers to stop her passing it back.
“It’s not a gift. It’s a loan. His large hands wrap entirely around Lucy-Gray’s little fingers.
“Whats in here, don’t touch it. Don’t even breathe it in because small amounts can be deadly”.
He could faintly see Lucy-gray staring back at him in the dark. Her big brown eyes caught the lighting of the Zoo and shined back at him.
“I have seen what war does to people, okay?”, he lectures, “I’ve seen it, and there will come a time when you need this, when you need to act. We all do things we’re not proud of to survive.”
Unexpectedly she brings her head forward to bars in an attempt to kiss him. He lowers his head slightly to dissuade her.
The last thing he needed was word getting back to you through a Tribute pretending to be asleep, or just his poor luck to have a Capitol citizen decide to visit the Zoo at the exact moment of weakness.
“I am sorry”, she gasps, “you said it was complicated with y/n, and y/n said she was with Sejanus so I”.
She doesn’t finish her sentence, too embarrassed.
Coriolanus shakes it off like it was nothing, in an attempt to ease her.
“It’s fine. I just”, Coriolanus wasn’t sure what to say.
You were with Sejanus. There was no real reason why he couldn’t kiss lucy-gray.
It was mis-guided loyalty to a woman who kissed another man. Sometimes right in front of Coriolanus.
Still it didn’t feel right. He wanted you to be the only person he kissed.
“It’s”, Coriolanus begins.
“Complicated”, Lucy-Gray finishes.
Coriolanus moves closer, bringing his head as far as he could to the bars.
“We’re gonna win this Lucy-Gray. We’re gonna win this together. I’m going to get you home, back to the Covery, okay? I promise”.
Coriolanus looks at his victor. His dog in the race. He’s bet it all on her, and he’ll be damned if she was going to let him down.
The morning of the Games, Coriolanus couldn’t even eat his cabbage soup that Tigres had worked so hard to prepare.
He kisses Grandma’am and Tigress goodbye before beginning his long journey to school.
There would be cameras and crowds of people. He had to look composed, but inside he felt the most scared he had ever been.
The feeling eased seeing you across the auditorium.
Your hair was down, and your uniform looked freshly pressed. Sejanus held you by the waist as you spoke to him, and you rested your hands on top of his.
It didn’t matter you were here for Coriolanus just as much as you were for Sejanus. His tribute wasn’t even participating. If anything you had come to support Coriolanus and Lucy-Gray.
“Coryo!” Sejanus called for him as he approached the mentors chairs.
Sejanus lets go of you, which is something Coriolanus would never do, to place a hand on Coriolanus shoulder.
“Hey” Coriolanus greets. His eyes remain on you and how you smile at him.
“How you doing? You alright?” Sejanus asks.
“Better”, Coriolanus dismisses.
He sees a photographer approaching from the corner of his eye, and takes the opportunity to take a step back to invite you between Sejanus and himself.
With a hand on your lower back, he propels you forward. The hand remains as you shuffle next to him.
“Over here please!”, the man with the large camera calls.
Coriolanus smiles at the camera, and he hoped you were too. The flash blinds him, and your smiles fades too fast to be certain it ever was really there.
“How are you this morning?”, Coriolanus asks softly.
“Not about to be forced to fight to the death”, you snap.
You don’t look at him as you speak as you often choose not to do.
“Here we go. Here we go, everyone, come on”, Lucky flickerman diverts people back to their seats, before Coriolanus has the opportunity to comfort you.
Sejanus' large hand goes to the back of your neck, and he leans down to whisper in your ear.
“Wait for me over there?” he asks, flicking his head to the nearest bleacher to his seat.
It was the furthest from Coriolanus’ seat, but you nod in agreement and move to his direction.
Coriolanus is ushered into his own seat. He has to crane his neck to look at you sitting on the end of the bleacher all by yourself. He hates to see you as a social out-cast.
“Five, four, three, two”, the music signals the start of Lucky Flickerman's introduction.
Coriolanus ignores him mostly. Turning in his chair to watch you engrossed in the large television in front of you.
Your hands grip the seat underneath you. He would give anything to be able to comfort you.
He wanted to tell you that it was all going to be okay. If he sat you where he wanted, he would have been able to hold your hand, but Sejanus had put distance between you and him, so he would have to watch from afar.
Suddenly you gasp, bring your hand up to your mouth with a frightened expression.
Coriolanus turns back to the screens to see what could have caused such a reaction.
They had found Marcus and left him strung up and half-alive in the arena. It was cruel even for Coriolanus.
You shouldn’t have had to see that. Coriolanus wished he could have protected you from it. A district boy taught a lesson, at the expense of your poor, soft heart.
You’ll be crying about it for weeks with only Sejanus for consolation.
Coriolanus wasn’t sure who would be comforting who with the way Sejanus jumped from his chair.
As soon as he is out of it, the chair was flying across the room. Only stopping when it hits the force of the wall.
“You’re monsters! All of you!” He screams to the audience.
He storms past Lucky flickerman who begins the countdown to the Games as if Sejanus had never existed at all.
Coriolanus gets up, rushing over to you as you rise to follow Sejanus.
He manages to catch your arm just as you make it to the exit way.
The scene was out of the line of camera-shot. Past the first three rows of seats, and hidden by the depth of the stands.
Coriolanus felt hidden enough to not let go of your arm, despite you struggling against him.
You turn back to see how had stopped you with an angry expression, but it doesn’t soften when you see it’s him.
“Don’t”, he begs. He wanted you to stay and support him.
It didn’t matter if you knew it or not, but you were his biggest comfort, and that’s what he needed as he watched Lucy-Gray fight for his life.
You don’t listen to him, tugging your arm out of his grip and chasing after Sejanus without looking back.
Coriolanus watches as you go with a heavy breath.
‘And they’re off!” Lucky announces.
Coriolanus turns to watch Lucy-Gray run from her mark.
“Run”, he demands softly. He takes a few steps forward but is halted when Lucy-Gray remains in the same spot, looking around.
“What are you doing? Run” he groans.
He staggers back to his seat, gripping the plastic back tightly in his hand.
His eyes shut when Lucy-Gray narrowly avoids a strike from Reaper.
Why won’t anyone ever listen to him, he wondered.
A district 2 kid gets slaughtered which gains the Cameras full attention. When it pans back to a field shot, Lucy-Gray was crossing the broken fragments with Coral hot on her heels.
Coriolanus felt the need to take a seat as he watched. A few of his eliminated classmates wished him well as they left, but Coriolanus remained slumped against his hand.
It wasn’t until she had gathered Jessup and began racing for the hole in the ground that Coriolanus lifted his head again.
“Go, go, go”, he muttered. The pack was closing in. Hell bent on taking out Lucy-gray.
They almost manage to, but Lucy-Gray slips through the broken door, and a squabble prohibits the hunters coming in.
He sighs. At least she was safe for now. He would worry about Jessup when it came time for it. Whats the point of worrying now? It was still anybody's game. He could very well die within the next hour from a surprise attack.
Coriolanus squirms in his seat watching as another child is hacked apart by dull weapons.
He pushes it from his mind as soon as the camera shifts. Lucy-Gray was safe, thats all that mattered. She still has a shot at winning.
Nothing more happened. All the tributes found shelter in one corner or another. Only Reaper paced the opened space, willing someone to come attack him.
Coriolanus wonders if you will be back. He hoped you would come check on him.
Coriolanus rises his head to the screen once more as Lamina makes her way up the broken fragments to where Marcus hung. Reaper gave her space, seemingly knowing what she was doing.
A small conversation between the two preceded Lamina swinging her axe down.
Coriolanus shudders hearing the impact. He hoped you didn’t see that.
He could only imagine the sobbing it would cause.
Lamina cuts marcus down and he falls like a bag of bricks.
She gazes down at him. Coriolanus couldn’t tell if it was in remorse, or in quiet pride of giving him a merciful death.
The sound of the drone coming near broke her concentration. The water attached swung in the air as it flew too fast towards her. She rose, reaching out to catch it.
Coriolanus almost laughed when it drove straight past her and smashed into the rocks.
The night dragged on, but Coriolanus remained. Eyes glued to the screen in hope of a glance of Lucy-Gray.
The camera stayed mainly above ground where the action was, but sometimes he got a dash at what Lucy-Gray was doing.
She was still alive. Or at least was, ten minutes ago.
The other mentors, and most of the audience had left as the night bled.
Nothing had really happened for hours. A squabble or a chase here and there but most of the fight had left the tributes.
“If only you could trap y/n as easily as you have trapped that poor girl”, Dean Highbottoms voice surprised Coriolanus.
“I’ve trapped her?”Coriolanus fought, “I didn’t create the Games”.
He saw Dean Highbottom flinch ever so slightly. If he hadn't been looking so intensely, he would have missed it.
“No”, Highbottom concedes, “but you’ve fueled its continuance. You’ve turned dying children into spectacles , Mr Snow. Congratulations”.
Coriolanus ignores him, turning back to the screens.
“Are you honestly hoping that winning the plinth prize will win you the girl?”, Dean Highbottom mocks.
“I am hoping my hard work will pay off”, Coriolanus bites.
“I saw you before with miss y/n, trying to stop her from leaving”.
“I was trying to stop her from making a fool out of herself”.
“What do you want from that poor girl?”.
Coriolanus knew there was no point in lying. Dean Highbottom had already figured out Coriolanus’ intentions.
“Only whats best”, he answers.
“Hm and you think winning the Plinth prize will help you decide what is best for her?”, Hightbom begins to laugh, his voice taking on a sing-songy tone, “Wake up mr Snow. Who do you think decides? Even if your songbird wins, I’ll do everything in my power to ensure you don’t see a single dime of that prize money’.
Coriolanus turns back to Highbottom with his anger logged in his throat.
The older man smiles back. Coriolanus knew the man was trying to get him to slip up. But his aggravation won’t lose him the prize. If Highbottom wanted it, he would have to rip it from Coriolanus’s hands.
Instead he turns back to the screen. Lucy-gray was still underground, feeding Jessup water.
He could hear Dean Highbottom walking away which left him with a small victory.
Coriolanus takes a deep breath, and sits straightener in his chair.
It wasn’t over. Dean Highbottom wasn’t the only authority. When Coriolanus won, surely Dr Gaul would fight for him. The other teachers too. The star pupil robbed of the victory? Coriolanus would see to an up roar.
At some point Coriolanus began to doze off. The late night and the slow turn of events left him the last one in the auditorium. The quietness of it all had his eyes shutting.
“Coriolanus?”. He heard your voice call.
He ignores it ,sure it was a dream. But you tap his arm, and his eyes shoot open to see you standing in front of him.
You were still in your school uniform, your hair slightly more messy than a couple of hours prior and you looked on the verge of tears.
It panicked him greatly to see you in such a state.
He reaches out, quickly taking your wrist in his hold.
“Huh, what happened? Are you okay?”, he asks.
“Has Sejanus been here?”, you quake.
Coriolanus shakes his head ‘no’.
He could have rolled his eyes. Of course, Sejanus was behind your tears once more. Coriolanus had never made you cry.
“Why would he be here?”, Coriolanus asks. It seemed an unlikely place to visit while his old friend lay dead on several different screens.
Tears begin to roll down your cheeks causing Coriolanus to spring up, attempting to bring you in his arms. You push him away, keeping an arms length distance between you both.
“I thought maybe he would come see you. We were sleeping and I woke up, and he was gone”, you explain with a shaky breath, “I don’t know where he could have went, Coriolanus. He’s not in a good place. I am worried-”
“Not in a good place, indeed” Dr Gauls voice booms through the open space.
This time when Coriolanus touched you, he was given permission. He pulls you next to him to face Dr Gaul together.
Dr Gaul was disinterested in the couple, taking the master remote and turning all the channels to the same camera.
“Sejanus!”, you gasp upon seeing your boyfriend knelt down next to his old friend in the arena.
Your hand takes a hold of Coriolanus' arm in a tight grip. Your painted nails dig into his uniform jacket.
“Breadcrumbs” Dr Gaul annotates while the room watches Sejanus spread the food over his friend, “I believe substance for a fallen comrade in his final journey. A district 2 superstition”.
“How did he get in there?” you question, never once tearing your eyes from the screen.
“I’ll work on finding the peacekeeper he bribed to let him in, and remove his tongue”, Dr Gual snarls, “in the meantime I need you to get him out right now”.
Dr Gaul looked directly at you which spiked Coriolanus heart rate,
“You should send Peacekeepers in”, he demanded. There was no way you were joining Sejanus in the arena.
“Only to have him bolt and hide like a rabbit?”, Dr Gaul retorts. “Fleix Ravenstill is fighting for his life in a hospital bed, Mr Snow. I will not have these rebels make a further mockery of my games. Anyone sees us lose control of this arena, it might as well be sounding a horn to the districts to revolt!”.
Dr Gaul takes a breath, trying to regain the composure lost. She turns her sight back on you, who had dropped Coriolanus' arm during her speech.
You stood brave, staring straight back at her with discontempt.
“You choose to be lovers with the radical. Don’t you want him out?”, Dr Gaul gages you.
Coriolanus steps forward trying to take Dr Gauls attention away from you.
‘‘Sending her into the arena will get her killed. It’ll look a lot worse if the tributes kill two Capitol students”, Coriolanus justifies.
“A volunteer then?”,Dr Gual pushes.
“I’ll go”, You say too quickly, “I can get him out”.
“I’ll go”, Coriolanus declares.
The mere thought of you in the arena left a sick feeling in his stomach. He wouldn’t watch helplessly on the other side of the screen while you risked your life for Sejanus.
He couldn’t believe Sejanus had put you in this position. Coriolanus’s every move was calculated with you in mind.
It was pure luck that you had chosen to seek Coriolanus out. If you hadn’t he would have woken the next morning to see you dead in the arena next to Sejanus.
He would go into the arena to save Sejanus if it meant saving you.
“No!” you protested, once again grabbing hold of Coriolanus arm to pull him back.
He turns to you with a look of irritation on his face.
“What chance do you think you stand if one of the tributes decide to attack? I am stronger, faster”, Coriolanus explained. He hated being irritated at you, but you wouldn’t see sense, “I’ll get him out, y/n. I promise”.
“Unless you are both secretly hoping he’ll die in that arena, we need to move fast”, Dr Gaul utters.
Her expression had changed from one of anger to quiet amusement, but she had not forgotten the task at hand.
She turns, expecting the children to follow her as she talks. Coriolanus follows suit, leading you as you wrap yourself around his arm.
He would have shaken you off. You had no place being even near the arena, let alone outside of its gates, but he loved the way you clung to him.
Your tight hold told him you would fight if he tried to leave you. Really it was the way you should be holding him. Not just now, in a state of emergency.
“I’ll freeze the feed for one hour”, Dr Gaul says as she moves out of the school, “I expect thats all the time we have until someone notices”.
A Peacekeeper van is waiting down the steps of the school. Dr Gaul jumps in, leaving the back of the van open for the children.
Coriolanus helps you up into the back of the van before lifting himself up behind you. The doors are closed shut as he enters, and the van takes off before he is fully sat next to you.
You are unusually quiet. Coriolanus could tell you were scared from the way you sat. Arms crossed across your chest, looking straight ahead of you with a glazed look.
Coriolanus places a hand on your knee in comfort but you don’t seem to register it.
He tries not to mind Dr Gauls' searing stare from the other bench. He focuses on you and your state of worry.
You begin to chew your lip absentmindedly. He wanted to pull it from between your teeth to get you to stop, but the van lurched forward as it stopped.
The drive wasn’t long, but the peacekeeper sped to it anyway.
As the doors are pulled open, Coriolanus takes a deep breath. There was no guarantee that he wouldn't be beaten to death by a tribute trying to save a man he loathed.
Grandma’am and Tigres wouldn’t survive without him, but if he died, he would at least make sure Sejanus died along with him.
If he couldn't have you, Sejanus definitely couldn’t.
“Lets go, Mr Snow”, Dr Gual urges.
She jumps out first. Coriolanus could hear her directing the Peacekeepers on what was about to happen.
You rise with Coriolanus. But He doesn’t allow you to get to the door as he does.
He jumps down and spins, placing his hand on the doors and bringing them closer together.
"Stay in the van”, he orders.
Surely, even on the off chance that a tribute managed to get through the gates, you would be safe in a locked van.
You nod your head in understanding, trying to ease his worry.
It doesn’t work but he appreciates it anyway.
He smiles up at you, taking the time to have a good look at you in case it was his last time.
With the doors shut on you, he could focus more clearly. He wasn’t going to die in that arena. He wasn’t going to die by a district hand.
He was going to get out alive. You were going to wake up to yourself and realise that you had been hopelessly in love with Coriolanus this whole time.
The gates are unlocked and he feels his confidence waver. Nevertheless, he persits with his mission and with a careful step he enters the arena.
It’s dark and quiet. The moonlight does little to help. A tribute could jump out at any time and Coriolanus would never see them coming.
He was cautious to make any sounds, stepping softly on the fragmented rocks.
The gate makes it stupid welcome message as he passes through it under the belief the game makers would have been smart enough to disable it.
His breath gets caught in his throat while waiting to see who it attracts. He doesn’t move.
He feels the blood rush to his ears, and his body ready itself to fight. No one comes.
Coriolanus’s eyes scan the room for whatever movement he could pick up on. It seemed there was none.
With a shaky breath he attempts to continue on, when his heightened ears pick up on a scuffle behind him.
He spins quickly, ready to dodge an attack. He wished it had been a tribute, and not you trying to climb over the turn stalls.
On its own accord, his face scrunches in anger. His footsteps are louder than he liked as he stormed over to you.
He takes your hips into what he was sure was a painful hold, and looks past you to see they had already locked the gate. You were now trapped in here with angry Tributes with nothing to lose.
Previously, he had never thought it possible to be angry with you. Now he wanted to scream in your face until you cried.
He helps you down, softly to the ground, and catches your hand harshly in his.
“You’re an idiot”, he whispers, “Stay close”.
He squeezes your fingers into the palm of his hand, but you make no complaint as you follow him into the arena.
Coriolanus felt his anxiety and senses heightened. He could faintly see Sejanus in the moonlight still knelt on the ground next to Marcus.
He felt you pull against his hold as you near Sejanus, but he refuses to let you go an inch.
If there was a tribute lurking he wanted to know where you were.
“Sejanus”, you whisper when you are within earshot.
He spins straight away upon hearing you. The panic he should have had all along, comes crashing all at once. He looked like a man who had seen a ghost as he rose from the floor.
‘What are you doing here?”, he questions in a strained, soft voice.
Sejanus takes your arms in his hands. Coriolanus wanted to yank you out of his hold, but a squabble would cause unnecessary attention.
“Get her out of here, Coryo”, Sejanus demands.
“I would like to. Believe me”, Coriolanus scolds. His eyes darted around the room, ensuring that all was still unnoticed.
“I am not leaving without you”, with your free hand you reach out to take a fist full of Sejanus shirt.
“I have to do this” Sejanus justifies, “I have to go where the cameras are”.
“You think anyone is watching this?” Coriolanus spat, taking a step closer to the couple, “Gaul cut the feed. Tributes kill you in here, she’s just going to say you died from the flu”.
“They won’t kill me”, Sejanus vows.
“Yes they will!” you reproach.
Maybe there was hope for you, Coriolanus thinks, Maybe Sejanus hadn’t brainwashed you fully.
The moonlight as it bounces off Lamina’s axe catches Coriolanus’s eye, and the safety net had now disappeared. She wouldn’t attack, but she could draw attention at any time.
“You need to decide right now”, Coriolanus demands, he breaks Sejanus' hold on you in case you need to run, and focuses Sejanus attention on himself, “do you want to fight these tributes or fight for them? Because if you want to make real change, you need to stay alive”.
“How can I make any change from out there?”, Sejanus discredits his power.
He was not worthy of his power if he had no brains on how to use it.
“You’re rich, smart. You care. You stood up to Gaul in that class, didn’t you? Spend your fathers money, do some real good”, a clash of the metal resounds in the arena. More would wake from the noise, and the group wouldn’t stand a chance.
“We’re dead. Y/n’s dead if we don’t leave right now”, Coriolanus reprimand, “Come with us, or just be another body in Gaul’s war”.
He knew he would have to fight to get you to leave Sejanus. But he was only allowing a few more seconds before he raced you to the exit.
Worried that you would get yourself killed in the struggle to save Sejanus, Coriolanus turns to begging as a last resort.
Placing a hand on Sejanus' shoulder, he brings the delusional boy closer.
“Please, Sejanus. We’re friends. Trust me”, Coriolanus pleaded.
You tug on Sejanus' shirt to move, “Come” you implore.
His large, dirty palm goes over your hand, “Alright”, he whispers.
The attack came at the perfect time. Coriolanus heard the shuffling of the boys shoes giving him time to pull you back towards the exit, before the war cry resounded through the arena.
“Go, Run!” he demands, pushing you ahead of him.
You sprint as fast as you can across the broken floor. Coriolanus caught up easily, pushing you forward urging you to move faster.
Sejanus lagged behind, choosing to look at the fast approaching tribute.
“Go! Go!” Coriolanus yells at you when you turn around to see where Sejanus was.
You don’t look back again, until you reach the turn stalls.
Coriolanus jumps over with ease, turning back to help you over. You stumble as your foot gets stuck on the rusty metal turn, and Coriolanus drags you over it as fast as he could.
His hand takes a hold of yours once more as Sejanus approaches the stand with the tribute hot on his heels.
He runs forward with you, eager to get you to safety beyond the gates.
Sejanus screams as he stumbles over the hard metal and you halt your quick pace to safety.
You call for him, trying to tug your hand out of Coriolanus’s. He resists, trying to get you to leave Sejanus.
Coriolanus promises to go back for him once you were beyond the gates but you wouldn’t have it.
He drops your hand, rathering his own life to be in danger for Sejanus than yours.
Coriolanus reaches Sejanus quicker than you do, and yanks him off the ground.
‘Come on, get up!”Sejanus tries to regain his feet but his knee refuses to take any weight, “y/n, get to the gate!”, Coriolanus commands.
You don’t turn, running towards Sejanus instead of away. You take his other arm over your shoulder, trying to assist Coriolanus.
The screaming of the tribute came closer, and before Coriolanus could move, the sharp edge of a blade hacked into his shoulder. It was a far swing from the tribute but with enough force to split skin.
He drops Sejanus to dodge the next attack. You fall into the wall, unable to support Sejanus by yourself.
The tribute now closer, stalks over to you with his sword held high. Sejanus tries a feeble attempt to shield you, but Coriolanus takes hold of a metal ruin that was stuck between cement, determined that not one hair on your head would be touched.
He scrambles off the ground and swings the cement at the tribute with a loud scream.
The young boy stumbles off balance, but readies himself again. He swung back with the blade which Coriolanus narrowly missed before bringing the cement down across the boy's head.
It lands him on the ground, but Coriolanus doesn’t stop there, bringing it down once more on the boy who threatened his girl
“Coriolanus!” you call to him. More tributes were coming out of the shadows.
He drops his weapon, going back over to you to help lift the weight of Sejanus.
Sejanus pushes through the pain to quicken the pace of the shuffle, but comotion had inlived the most dangerous pack. Corals groups hooped and hollered as they approached.
“Y/n, open the gate!”, Coriolanus demands, wanting you to be first out.
Sejanus drops his arm from your shoulder, and you take the permission to take off ahead and bang on the gate until it opens.
Coriolanus could hear the tributes as they run. They weren’t far off. He wasn’t sure they would even make it to the gate in time, but you would and that’s what matters.
You push yourself out with the gate as it opens, turning back to look at the boys with wide, fearful eyes.
Coriolanus pushes himself to be faster, taking nearly all of Sejanus' weight onto him.
They make it just in time, and fall to a heap on the floor next to Peacekeepers boots.
Corioanus pushes Sejanus off him. His hand reaches for his shoulder that now weeped blood.
He groans as he feels the ache of the gash, next to his still searing burn mark.
He is distracted momentarily when Coral reaches the gate, and throws her spear into it.
“Keep your eyes on the screen, gorgeous”, she taunts Coriolaus, throwing her head in the direction of you, “ I may have missed her tonight, but your songbirds next on my list”.
The Peacekeepers demand that her group get back and the tributes disappear back into the dark tunnel.
He had followed Corals gaze to you on the floor. Your tears run down your cheeks now that the adrenaline is gone.
Coriolanus moves to get you off the floor and into his arms, but you move as he does, and crawl across the floor to where Sejanus lay.
You wrap your arms around his neck and sob into him.
“I am okay”, he promises. His large hand rubs soothing circles on your back.
You pull back in anger and begin hitting his chest as you speak.
“How could you?”, you reprimand, “how could you do that?”.
“I am sorry, I had to do something”. Sejanus winces as he tries to sit up. His knee no doubt, completely ruined.
“You could have been killed”, you cry with a push against his attempted hold.
Was this the end of the bleeding heart couple? Coriolanus felt a spark of joy, watching as you fought.
“Coriolanus could have died!”, as if you had forgotten about him you now turn to him, ‘Oh, Coriolanus”, you cry, “Are you okay?”.
Coriolanus hand went back to his shoulder, feeling the wet patch of blood soak through his school jacket. He had no other uniform, even Tigres wouldn't be able to fix it.
“Coryo, I am so sorry”, Sejanus apologies. It meant nothing to Coriolanus who ignored him.
A car screeches to a stop and two car doors slam.
The car is sleek and expensive with its own full time driver waiting with the lights on.
Next to it stood Ma and Mr Plinth, who were well dressed as always.
Ma was crying, but Mr Plinth stood stoic and angry.
He gave Coriolanus a thankful nod but remained far away expecting his son to come to him.
Ma runs over to her baby, wrapping herself around her sons head.
Coriolanus takes the opportunity to move closer to you. You stand upon seeing him approach.
“Are you alright?’, he questioned.
You reach up, taking his neck and bringing him down into a hug. He gratefully goes, never expecting a hug before the relationship began.
“Thank you, Coriolanus. I would have died in there”, you muttered.
The hug is too short, before he is ready you are pulling away to look at his shoulder.
“Coriolanus needs help!’, you announce, “Somebody needs to take him to the hospital!”.
“Come with me”, he begs you.
“Don’t worry, Miss y/n. I’ll take care of our hero here”, Dr Gaul inserts herself where she is not wanted once more. She looked amused at Coriolanus’s physical and emotional pain.
“Y/n, baby”, Sejanus calls to you. The driver had left the car to assist Sejanus while his father looks on.
Coriolanus reluctantly lets go as you move to the sound of your name.
“You’ll look after him?”, you question Dr Gaul. Coriolanus wanted to beg you not to believe her.
“He’ll be good as new. You have my word”, Dr Gaul promises.
He shutters as you move further back.
Mr Plinth does not cross for his son, but he crosses to come collect you.
He wraps an arm around your shoulder to lead you to the car.
You look back at Coriolanus as you are led. Taking one final glance before entering the car with Sejanus.
Coriolanus watches as the car takes off. He wondered if you had your arms wrapped around Sejanus in the back.
He decides it is best not to submit his body to further stress and pushes it out of his mind. The walk home would help him clear his head, and focus only on the positives of the night. You relied on him tonight. Even acknowledged that he had saved your life. That was a step in the right direction.
“And where do you think you are going, Mr Snow”, Dr Gaul calls out after him.
“Home”, he announces over his good shoulder.
‘And make a liar out of me?” she walks in the opposite direction towards the Peacekeeper van, “Come”.
The ride back is silent. The same hurry to get there was not offered on the way back. Coriolanus shoulder ached, the blood would not stop pouring, sticking his shirt to his back and irritating his wound.
Dr gaul doesn’t speak again until they are back in her lab.
He couldn’t believe she had taken him back to her experimental freak show instead of a hospital. But he was in pain and in need of medical care so he didn’t verbalize his complaints.
“How did it feel?” she asks as she readies her station for him, “when you killed the boy to save y/n?”.
He should have known she was watching.
‘I didn’t have a choice”, he spat as he unbuttoned his shirt and took a seat in front of her.
She laughs at him as she begins her first stitch.
“All your fine manners, education, background, stripped away in a blink of an eye. Fueled with the terror of becoming prey, how fast we become predators".
Coriolanus lets out a shaky breath as the adrenaline dies down and the needle stitches him together.
“Who would have thought that one day Crassus Snow’s boy would be fighting for his life in the area over a girl?”, he feels her stop stitching while she waits for the answer to her next question, “That's why you did it no? It wasn’t until news of her involvement that you volunteered. Or did you still wish to proceed with the guise of friendship?”
“Sejanus is not my friend”, Coriolanus declares.
Her needle work began again, pleased with his answer.
“You want to protect y/n, Mr Snow? Then it’s essential that you accept what human beings are, and what it takes to control them”.
He feels her knot the thread into his skin
“So I’ll ask you again, when you beat that boy to death with a club, how did it feel?”.
“It felt”, Coriolanus breathed, wondering if he should give the honest answer. Deciding he had nothing to lose from it, he answers.
“It felt powerful”.
“Answer this next one honestly and you won’t have to walk home”, Dr Gaul teases, “Were you hoping that Sejanus died tonight?”
“Yes”, Coriolanus croaks. His own tears welling in his eyes. He refuses to let any more than two fall, which are wiped away harshly.
“How did it feel to have her life in your hands tonight?”, Dr Gaul pushes.
Coriolanus nods, unable to form words.
A hand is placed on his good shoulder. She squeezes to let him know the sincerity of her words.
“People will do anything to survive, Mr Snow. It doesn’t matter how miserable of an existence it is”.
Coriolanus thinks to his bare apartment, and cinder block bed. It was true, and he was living proof.
Survival meant hope.
He closes his eyes, feeling more tears forming and remembers how malleable you were tonight. You trusted him wholly with your survival, and with that came power over you.
Lucy-Gray was the same. Tonight you showed him the same loyalty, and respect that you had denied him previously.
Lucy-Gray had tried to kiss him, and you melded your body to him when you could. He was sure if you were alone, you would have kissed him for saving your life.
If only he could trap you as easily as Lucy-gray. Keep you in a state of panic that rendered you totally dependent on him.
He lets out a low, breathy laugh, remembering Dean Highbottoms words.
Maybe the old man could see more than Coriolanus would like.
Despite the pain in his shoulder and his little sleep, Coriolanus arrived back at the auditorium bright and early.
Lucy-Gray was still alive. He could see her sleeping against a pole next to Jessup.
The dead tribute was noticed, but soon forgotten. Only Lysistrata pushed to know more, but she too dropped the subject as the tributes began to wake and fight.
There were ten tributes left. Not an impossible task for Lucy-Gray to outlive them all.
He kept careful watch of the screens. While the rest of the mentors took lunch, and socialized, Coriolanus sat with his head in his hand, hoping for a split second of screen time that told him Lucy-Gray was okay.
“Coriolanus!”. Your voice shocked him as it appeared.
He stood to greet you. It was a welcomed but unexpected visit. The games were announced a public holiday, you had no obligation to be at school.
He would have thought after last night that you would be glued to Sejanus’s side. Was this the beginning of the end?
“Y/n, what are you doing here?”, he questioned.
In the daylight he could see a bruise on your temple from when toppled into the wall, under Sejanus. He reaches out to run his finger across the black spot, and you hit his hand away.
“What are you doing here?”, you push back with a hard tone “I went to your house to check on you, but Tigres said you were here?”.
Coriolanus felt his body twitch at your words. You went to his run down apartment? How much did you see? Surely, Tigres shielded his shame. Your eyes didn’t carry pity, maybe you didn’t know.
“Don’t you ever go to my apartment without my permission again”, he scolded.
That was close. Too close. He was days from getting the plinth prize. Days from burying his decade long shame.
You seemed drawn back at his harsh tone. He had never spoken to you unkindly before.
In an effort to ease the mood once more, before you left, he threw his hands up as if it wasn’t a big deal.
“My Grandmother has severe social anxiety. We can’t have unexpected visitors”, he lies with a soft and airy tone.
“Oh, I am sorry. I didn’t know”, you offer.
Coriolanus tuts, bringing his hand up once more to brush the hair off your bruise.
“You shouldn’t have been in there”, he complains.
The bruise looked painful. He was sure it would cause you a headache. You should be resting with ice upon it, not here talking to him.
“No one should be in there”, you return.
His hand is pushed away again, but he attributes it being too soft to touch, rather than disdain for him touching you.
"Thank you for checking on me”, he says.
“You shouldn’t be here, Coriolanus. Not after last night”.
“Lucy-Gray needs me”, he observes.
Your eyes flick to the screen behind him, before back to Coriolanus’s eyes and nod in agreement.
“Sejanus is in the hospital. They have him on morphline. His knee will never work fully, but he is alive and that's because of you”, you proclaim, “Lucy-Gray is fortunate to have you looking out for her. We all are”.
His heart flutters. ‘We all are’, yes! Yes! You were lucky to have him looking out for you. Have you finally come to appreciate all he does for you?
He smiles down at you. If his shoulder didn’t ache, he would have reached out for you.
“If there’s anything I can do”, you offer.
“There is!” He responds too quickly.
He clears his throat, trying to conceal his eagerness.
“There is”, repeats more even toned, “You could stay. I could use the support”.
You looked unsure of the request, but he had saved your life just hours prior, so you felt an obligation to do as he asked.
“Sure, Coriolanus”, you finally say, although you still looked unsure, “I can stay for a little bit”.
He could barely breathe. The “great” he manages to get out is hardly above a whisper.
He leads you to the front bench just in front of the first row of mentor chairs.
You sit obediently and he takes his new seat in front of you.
The tributes have become more lively. Coral was on the hunt for Lucy-Gray trying to convince one of her group members to go down and flush her out.
None would so they go back to making traps to catch Reaper.
Coriolanus reaches his hand back to you, trying to see how far his luck would take him.
You do take his hand into your own, but only for the time it took to give him three encouraging pats to the back of his hand.
It was close enough. Leaving Coriolanus with a feeling of satisfaction.
The feeling stayed for less than a second. His good mood disappeared when the camera flew back to Lucy-Gray underground.
Jessup was getting agitated. Yelling at Lucy-Gray and twitching uncontrollably.
“What’s he doing?”Coriolanus jumps out of his chair and moves closer to the screens.
“They’re friends. He wouldn’t hurt her”, you comment, coming up beside him.
“Somethings wrong”, Lysistrata agrees, “He wouldn’t turn on her like this”.
Lucy-Gray makes a mad dash away which only further angers Jessup, determined that he had done something.
Coriolanus watches in panic. Lucy-gray couldn't defend herself. She would never hurt Jessup, even in his mad state.
“Go to the stands, go to the stands!”, he directs.
Lucy-gray does go to the stands, climbing up as fast as she could but Jessup was determined to catch her.
Coriolanus couldn’t watch. He turns and paces, trying to figure out a way to save Lucy-Gray.
It couldn’t be over. You had only just come around, he needed more time.
The camera zooms in on Jessup allowing full view of the white form dripping down his lips.
‘Wait, look”, he tells you.
Your hand balls at your mouth. He hated to see you so frightened yet again.
As soon as this was all over, he would ensure nothing would ever worry you again.
“I think it rabies," he announces.
He could have danced. There was a way out of this mess. The game wasn’t over yet.
“That bite from the train”, Lysistrata deducts.
“Send him water”. He demands of Lysistrata.
“What? No”, she denines.
He leans across her desk so she is forced to look at him. He was half tempted to just take control of her computer himself.
“You remember the posters from the war. Rabies. It makes you scared of water. Send him a drone”, he demanded.
“That’ll scare him”.
He knew Livy had come to care for Jessup
“Yes” Coriolanus agrees in a hard tone, “away from her”.
Lysistrata still looked in denial. There was no other option, both their tributes didn’t have to die.
“Jessup is done”, he says with haste, “Livy, you’re the only one that can get it right to him”.
Coming to grips with reality, Livy does as she is told, sending a water drone in the direction of Jessup.
“Thank you”, Coriolanus feels better watching the drone fly in.
“Nothing to be proud of”, Livy mutters.
As planned, the drone smashes into him just as he reaches Lucy-gray.
He hears you gasp as Jessup falls to his death and hits the bottom with a heavy thud.
He turns to see you still with your hand pressed tightly against your mouth, and eyes squeezed shut.
The sight makes him feel horrible that he had asked you to stay.
You were on the side of his sore shoulder so he had to reach across with his good hand to touch you.
“Coryo”, Livy called as Carol’s group came out of hiding.
The hand on you balls watching as Corals group surrounds Lucy-gray.
“Oh no”, he complains.
He needed to make a distraction, so she could run and hide. He couldn’t just stand and watch. But the only thing he could do was send food and water in on badly operated drones.
The same badly operated drones that just took Jessup out.
He reaches for his communipad, and selects as many bottles of water as it would let him.
He didn’t need to kill the group. Only give Lucy-Gray a chance to get away
The drones go flying in. He hoped Lucy-Gray wouldn’t give the surprise away, but she managed to keep her cool until it was time to duck.
“Hey! You can’t attack the tributes” a fellow mentor complained.
“I am just sending water”, Coriolanus jeered.
He could hear your chuckle of approval behind him. You reach out to his good shoulder and murmur in his ear.
“Good work”, you encouraged.
He wished he could have stayed in the moment but it wasn’t over yet. Lucy-gray disappears into the dust, taking with her a bottle of water.
She hides in the shelter of the ruin and he can faintly see her take something from her dress pocket.
No there, he wanted to say. What if someone saw her poison the water and he was disquailified.
He looks around the room to check no one else is noticing. All eyes seemed to be on the group turning against Lamina.
Lucy-Gray ducks back out with the water, placing it back on the ground before emptying the others collected. It wasn’t a bad idea.
Lamina's death stopped the clock and the attention was once more turned back to Lucy-gray.
“Go” you mutter, flicking your hands out as if she could see.
Lucy-Gray takes off with Coral and her group chasing her back up the stands. She finds an air duct and dives to close it in time.
Coral catches it before it fully closes and it begins a tug of war against the two.
“No, No”, you complain.
He wanted to shield your eyes from the screen. With every inch Coral got, Lucy-Gray found the strength to tug it back.
When it finally closes, sealing Lucy-gray in safety, Coriolanus lets out a sigh of relief.
“She’s Okay” he says to you.
Coral takes out another tribute over a squabble over the water, and Dill drinks the poisoned water.
So that was three dead tributes in less than 20 minutes. With this pace Coriolanus would be announced winner before the night ended.
He sat you back down on your seat, and retook his in front of you. Your fingers cling to the bench underneath you, and your posture is tight and unnatural.
He expects you to leave him, but you remain watching as Reaper collects the fallen tributes into a neat line and draps the Panam flag over him.
“Are you going to punish me now?” reaper yells to the cameras.
He begins to scream again but his words are cut off by a broadcast from Dr Gaul.
“Capitol Citizens, I’m afraid I must interrupt our games to announce a tragic loss. Fleix Ravienstill, son of our beloved president, has this morning succumbed to his injuries sustained in the rebel bombing.Out there, in the districts, they will be celebrating this young boys death. I will not allow my games to give our enemies such a victory. I swear to you here and now, before the sun goes down tonight, a rainbow of destruction will engulf our arena. Even if it means there’s to be no victor in these games”.
The broadcast ends, and the tributes go back on screen.
“What?” you spit, “What does she mean no victor? That's not fair. She can't do that”.
You rise from your outrage, ranting to Coriolanus. Your anxiety has been taken over by your anger. Coriolanus agreed it was not fair. All his hard work gone down the drain because of the death of Felix, who was never going to amount to anything anyway.
A rainbow of destruction. The snakes. There was no way he could protect lucy-Gray from them.
He would need something with her scent. Could he get the string of her guitar that she played in the interviews? He didn’t even know where it was. By the time he found it, the Games were sure to be over.
Maybe, he could go to the zoo. Toss as many things as he could into the snake pit and hope one of them was hers? It might mean the survival of everyone but her too.
The zoo, he remembers. He digs into his breast pocket to pull out the handkerchief he used to wipe her tears away. If the sweat of his palm can keep him safe against the snakes, then surely her fresh tears dried on the handkerchief could.
He had to get it to the lab before it was too late.
He grabs your forearms and turns you away from the screen to him so he had your full attention.
“Stay here, okay. I’ll be right back”. He commands.
“Where are you going?”, you ask astounded that he could be leaving after such news.
“Just stay here. Don’t move”, he reiterated.
You nod sensing his urgency and he dashes out of the auditorium into the empty hallway.
He knew he couldn’t walk into Dr Guals lab without a reason, and begging for Lucy-Grays life wasn’t a good one.
As he jogs down the steps, he claws at the stitches in his back, reopening the wound.
He groans from the pain but ensures all eight stitches have torn open.
His body is weak as he sprints to Dr gauls lab. It barely gets him through the front door, where he demands to see Dr gaul.
As if she was expecting him, the Peacekeeper lets him directly through.
“Come to beg for her life?” Dr gaul asks uninterested.
“No” Coriolanus puffs, “No, my stitches. They came loose. I didn’t want the doctors asking questions”.
She looks at him suspiciously but relents, going to her work table.
“Come, pull down your shirt”, she directs.
He walks past a row of black birds locked in cages. Her newest toys.
“The news must have shocked you Mr Snow. With no tributes, no victor, with no victor, no girl”.
Coriolanus faces the birds as Dr Gaul stitches the needle into his shoulder. He eyes the large snake tank in the corner and the people who ready it for transport.
“Y/n’s actually at the auditorium. She came to support me. She’s the one who noticed the stitches”, Coriolanus lies.
“Support you and not her boyfriend in hospital? Things are looking promising”, she says.
"Looking promising, looking promising” her voice echoes across the room. Seemingly from the mouth of the birds.
She sighs and stops stitching to click a receiver.
“Jabberjays”, she explained, “We sent them out during the war to pick up rebel conversations. A failed experiment. They only pick up useless phrases unless manually operated. I am collecting them to see what better purpose they serve”.
Coriolanus remains quiet trying to figure out how he could reach the cage before it was too late.
The needle knots in his back, a feeling Coriolanus had come to know to mean that the stitching was done.
“I’ll see you and your girl back in the auditorium for the finale, Mr Snow”, Dr Gaul dismisses, “you should be proud of yourself. Your songbird put on a wonderful show, and you didn’t need money to steal the girl after all”.
Coriolanus quickly buttons up his shirt, watching as the cage was wheeled out.
“Thank you, Dr Gaul”, he says.
He races to catch up to the assistants wheeling the cage, pretending to be following them out.
They don’t see him as a threat so pay him no mind. He falls back as they take a hallway just off the exit, and watches as they leave the cage out for an airlift.
He stays hidden behind a pole until it was time. Leaving his jacket to keep the door wedged open. With their back turned, he dashes out to cage. The snakes are upset when he slams into the large cage, beginning to move and fight with each other.
He finds an air hole large enough and stuffs the handkerchief in. it moves along the bodies of the snakes until Coriolanus could no longer see the white in between the rainbow.
When the harness is lowered, Coriolanus makes a run back to the door, taking his jacket and making his own exit from the Citadel.
He pays for the taxi this time. Sure that his body couldn’t take anymore strain.
It cost him his fathers watch, but he arrived back in the auditorium before the entrance of the snakes.
“What happened?” he quizzes you, taking a hold of your arm, “Lucy-gray is she okay?”.
You point to the screen where Coral and Treech poke and prod a vent.
“She’s in there”, you address with horror in your voice.
Treech points up and Coral takes his palace directly under the vent.
Blocking the camera, Treech begins to sway of balance and nose begins leek small amounts of blood.
“Wait, what's wrong with Treech?” his mentor asks.
Corilanious was worried about his own tribute, who was three lucky strikes away from being impaled.
Coral hits the metal too many times and the vent collapses on top of her.
Coriolanus' hand latches out to yours, which you accept with the same nervous tension in your fingers.
“Run, run” Coriolanus begs.
She runs back into the arena. Not the safest place with reaper still sitting by the dead tributes.
Coral chases after her, too slow to catch up.
The whole arena stops when the chopper lowers in the cage.
“Please work”, Coriolanus whispers.
“What is that?” you ask.
“Wouldn’t it be fun if it was candy?” Lucy Flickerman answers you.
Coriolanus feels your hand tense in his, then open in surprise when the glass cage cracks and the snakes fly out.
“Not candy!” Lucky Flickerman announces as three tributes are overtaken in rainbow.
The Snakes chase the last two tribute who head to the stands for higher ground.
“Lucy-Gray, please” Coral begs. The snakes lash at her heels as she tries to drag herself up the stands, “Please it couldn’t have all be for nothing”.
It was. More snakes latch on and Coral dies with two loud screams.
“Now all colors lead to Gray” Lucy Flickerman narrates.
The snakes slither up and around Lucy-Gray but none bite her.
Coriolanus lets out an unbelievable scoff.
‘She’s..She’s won” he says watching as the snakes continue to follow Lucy-Gray. He had won. The 10th annual victor. She was last standing, even Dean Highbottom couldn’t contest his win.
“It’a over. She won”, he says in a louder voice. Why was no one doing anything to stop the snakes, “Let her out!”
“Afraid that’s not your call to make, mr Snow”, Lucky insists.
He turns to the audience. Dr Gaul had come to see the final show. She sat high up in the breeches and must of come in when Coriolanus was distracted.
He drops your hand so he could turn and face her. She stared back with the same hateful and curious gaze. She knew what he had done.
But if she squealed on him, he would return the favor.
Your hands fly up to your face once more when Lucy-gray begins to sing. Tears pour from your eyes watching the young girl sing her last song.
Looking to get away from the camera that played on your pain, you pushed your way to the back.
“Dr gaul. She’s won”, Coriolanus yells, “It’s over let her out”.
“Why aren’t they attacking her?” Festus asks.
Dr Gual raises her eyebrows at him in a mocking fashion.
“It must be the signing. It’s calming them”, he deceives.
“She can’t sing forever”, Festus comments bitterly.
She just needs to sing long enough for Coriolanus to figure out a way to get her out.
“Dr Gaul, please”, Coriolanus tries, “Get her out”.
He could see the audience engrossed in the scene. He just needed to figure out how to turn it against Dr Gaul.
“Get her out!”, you yell across the room, following Coriolanus stare to Dr gaul.
Her eyes flick to you and you scream at her once more to release Lucy-gray.
Others join, chanting in protest.
“Who will watch the games if there is no victor?” he threatens.
Dr Gaul raises her hand to silence the audience, before turning to her assistant.
“Get her out”, she says loud enough for everyone to hear.
A cheer erupts the auditorium and Dr gaul wades herself through it to the silence of the hallway.
“She’s won! Lucy-Gray! Coriolanus Snow is the winner of the tenth annual Hunger games!” Lucky announces.
People rush from the stands to swarm him. Offering him congratulations and applause.
It all felt real now. He had done it. The plinth prize, you, were all his now.
He pushes to the crowd to get to where you stood in front of the bleaches.
You were smiling and clapping. He wasn’t sure if it was entirely for him, or if you were just glad Lucy-gray would live.
You looked beautiful and for once Sejanus was nowhere by your side. In this moment, you were entirely his.
You treated you as such, taking your face between his hands and stilling you for a kiss.
His lips smashed against you, his teeth nipped at the skin of your bottom lip asking you to part them for him.
You don’t pull away at first, but his lips are on you for less than ten seconds before you are shoving against his sore shoulder.
He is forced to drop his hand upon the impact. His shoulder ached from pain of being moved, and on reflux he lowered his arm to ease it.
Coriolanus could tell by the look on your face, you did not enjoy the kiss. Did he come on too strong? Did he accidently hit your bruise when he kissed you?
He opened his mouth to apologize for the above, but you took off before he could catch you.
It was impossible to follow you through the crowd of people. People would not part to let him through.
Some jeered at him for being pushed away but most still rode his victory wave.
Had he made a mistake? Where you not ready to leave Sejanus for him yet?
You had no right to reject him. He had won. Saved your life. Risked his own.
Coriolanus took a seat while the crowd surrounded him, and then disappeared. He stayed there until he was summoned by a peacekeeper much later.
He figured he was to see his victor before they sent her back home. The Peacekeeper led him to a chamber, but Lucy-Gray was nowhere to be seen.
“Lucy-Gray?” he called, “Lucy-Gray?”.
He sees a table in the middle of the room with his fathers handkerchief and his mother compact.
“To think, Mr Snow, you almost had it all” Dean Highbottom's voice taunts him.
“Where’s Lucy-Gray?”Coriolanus demanded. Had they hurt her for Coriolanus’s mistake?
“I would be more worried about yourself” Highbottom answered, stalking towards him.
“First y/n rejects you and now the prize money slips through your fingers”, Highbottom torments, “it’s fitting that both your parents could be here for your big moment”.
He gestures to the items on the table in front of Coriolanus.
“That compact, how many times did I see your mother use it? Come now, we both know that child from eleven didn’t die of disease. And that old handkerchief, we found it in the snake tank, condemning you with your fathers own initials”.
Highbottom rounds Coriolanus completely before standing in front of Coriolanus across the table.
“President Ravenstill has left your form of punishment up to me, and I’ve decided banishment to the districts where you’ll serve your Capitol in exile for the next twenty years as an anonymous, peacekeeping grunt”.
Dean Highbottom grins at Coriolanus who felt too frozen to do anything.
“You’ll never get your hands on y/n. She’s too good for you Mr Snow. By the time you get back I imagine her and Sejanus will be married with three or four children”.
It was true. Coriolanus wouldn’t be able to block the ongoing turn of events that was sure to happen with Sejanus. It wasn’t right. It wasn’t how things were supposed to go. He had worked so hard to have you, only to be taken away as soon as he got on equal footing with Sejanus.
“You hear that boy? That’s the sound of snow failing”, Highbottom proclaims.
He’ll be left with nothing more than a memory of you, while you will forget completely of the man who loved you so.

Witch!Reader x Demon!Satoru. He promises to fulfill her wish in exchange for something. She wants to be seen as a human being instead of a monster, the only thing she really wants is to be loved, and unfortunately he knows that. He fulfills her wish, but in return he imprisons her in his castle and promises to give her all the love and care she deserves (but in a very dark way).

Y/n's POV
I was born in a witch family. My mother was a witch too. So were my ancestors. I'm also a witch. I didn't know what was it when I was a kid. Is being a witch a good thing or a bad thing? I always used to ask myself. But all I knew was my mom always used to hide the fact from everyone that we all are witches.
So many years passed. I grew up. I'm an adult now. And I still don't have the answer that if being a witch is good or bad. But for me it became a curse. A curse for which my whole family got killed. The king hired to kill all the witches in his kingdom. He's such a powerful king. And that's why my family isn't with me now.
We all were unaware that they were attacking us. It was the middle of the night. I saw them kill everyone in front of my eyes. I ran away from there. But they saw me. I ran all I could. And for god's blessings they couldn't find me. Now I made a small hut in the forest.
All time fear attacks me that they will find me and kill me too. I can't live like this. I need to find a way where I can live like normal people. So I started learning witches techniques. Maybe any of them will help me? I started reading the books of my ancestors.
I started learning many magics. But none of them are for what I was trying to find. I never did witch activities before. I started searching in all those books. Maybe, just maybe something that will make me like the other normal people and I can live a normal life just like them?
I searched all I could. But nothing was related this. But then I found something. A book which is sealed. I looked at it. It was the last hope. I opened the seal. It was too old. Am I even gonna find anything from here? I opened the book anyways. After some time of reading what I found can actually help me. The things written in the book are:
"He got sealed. After all those trying, we all witches are successful. We sealed him. He, the strongest demon. He got birthed and from that day it was all the witch's job to end him. Though its not possible to kill him. He's too powerful. We all were also shocked that we got him sealed. He was birthed to destroy the world. He wants to rule it. He has destroyed too many places. He has killed too many people. And after doing rituals we managed to seal him. That demon, that monster's name is:
Gojo Satoru"
I kept turning the pages and the last page got my attention.......
Process to unseal Gojo Satoru
He'll fulfill your wish
My heart started beating wildly. Should I do it? It is mentioned that he is too dangerous. But he'll fulfill my wish. I don't have anything in my life. Does it even matter if I risk it? If I don't do it people are gonna try to kill me all the time. Then I should take a risk. I have to go to the place mentioned in the book.
The place mentioned in the book is the old burnt castle at the end of the forest. I've seen that castle from the young age. Everyone told me to stay away from there. But they never told me the story behind it. Today I got to know about the real story behind it.
The ritual needs to be done at night. So I collected all the things that were needed in the ritual that day. And I went there the next night. I wore a hooded dress so that no one could recognise me. And I was lucky that there weren't any people there. I quickly made my way inside the old castle with a candle in my hand.
I entered the castle. It was huge. There's dust everywhere. And the castle is burnt also. It made me curious about what happened here? I kept walking. The huge stairs from the middle. I have to go to the top room of this castle. As in the book there's a throne room which is the ritual room. I went up there.
I pushed the door open and my mouth was wide open by the beauty of the throne room. I wondered what it looked like when it wasn't burnt. I went towards the throne. I don't have enough time to do the ritual. I quickly set up what was written in the book. Then lit up all the candles. Then started doing the ritual. My heart was thumping against my chest.
As I completed the spell. The wind started flowing heavily. Suddenly all the candles were extinguished together. Then the wind stopped flowing. And all of a sudden all the candles lit up together again. Then I saw a tall human figure sitting on the throne.
He has a huge masculine body. He's tall, has handsome sharp features, white hair, white eyelashes and those gorgeous blue eyes. He looks exactly the same said in the book. He's wearing all black royal clothes. He turned his head on both sides and the cracking sound echoed through the room. Then he looked at me.
Can that beautiful person be that dangerous? I asked myself. "So you're the one who unsealed me?" He spoke. I have to respect him. "Yes, my lord" I replied looking at the ground. "Hmmmmm.....well, this place is still burnt and dusty everywhere.... and I don't like my castle to lose its beauty" he said and threw a hand beside him.
A blue ray came out of his hand. And all of a sudden the castle turned all new. Not burnt anymore neither dust anywhere. I was already gorgeous and now it has become more gorgeous. A huge black gorgeous castle. "Hmm.....so what's the reason you unsealed me?" He asked.
"my lord, I'm a witch.... people of the king are killing all the witches. They killed my family too. I don't wanna live like this. I was to live like normal people. I want everyone to think of me like normal people. I want to be loved." I replied. And then there was silence. I could feel him staring at me.
"So you don't wanna be a witch any more and want to be loved right?"he asked. "... yes. My lord" I replied. He smirked. "Okay....done" he said swiping his finger in the air. My eyes widened in hope that now I can live like normal people. I looked at my hand and the witch sign was gone.
That means..... that means I'm not a witch anymore? I was so happy. "T-thank you... thank you, my lord" I said with a smile on my face. I stood up. I said "I should go now-" he didn't let me finish "No" he said. It almost seemed like an order. I dared to look at him. And there was a sinister smirk on his face.
"I didn't give you permission to leave" he said and went up from the throne. And within a blink I was standing in front of me. I got frightened and took a step back with a gasp. "You scared?" He asked with a smirk. I didn't reply. "Are you?" He asked again tilting his head. ".... N-No" I replied.
"okay.... then come with me... let me show you something" I said with a grin offering a hand to me. I have to accept his hand and so I did. And within a blink we both were standing in front of the window. How fast is he? "Look at the kingdom. I own this. I'm gonna burn this place" he said. Now he was definitely terrifying me.
He placed a hand on my waist and pulled me against him. Now this is getting too uncomfortable. "And you'll be watching them die with me from here. And I'll kill them first who killed your family" he said. What does that mean?! "M-my lord I should go now" I said. "And I already said no" he said looking at me.
"you want to be loved, right?..... you'll be living here in my castle with me.... and I'll give you all the love you need" he whispered in my ear. My eyes widened. Oh no no no. This is not what I want. He wants to kidnap me in his castle?! Shit I don't have my powers anymore either. What should I do now?!
"what happened?" He asked and nuzzled his face on my neck. I took a deep breath and pushed him. Then ran all I could. I was running through the corridor and bumped into someone. Of course it's none other than Gojo Satoru. I don't have any ways now. I automatically started crying.
He smirked. "Didn't thought someone has the bravery to disobey me" he said and started walking towards me and I started walking backwards. "P-Please let me go I don't want that life" I cried. "Oh darling you don't know how much I love to see people crying. And for your life I'm the one have the power to decide how you'll live" he said.
Then he clapped his hand and we both were standing in a.... BEDROOM?! He grabbed my hand and pulled me against him. "Now tell me what you were saying?" He asked. "P-Please....let go... P-Please" I said. "Let you go? But didn't you wish to be loved? I'm giving you the love you deserve" he said while grabbing my ass and squeezing it.
I yelped at that. "P-Please I don't want to stay her-" before I could even complete my sentence he threw me on the bed and claimed on me. I screamed so loudly out of fear when threw me on the bed. "Didn't you say you're not scared? That seems like a lie now" he said and took off a strand of hair out of my face.
"it's been years since I was sealed. Never thought I'll get this gorgeous gift as soon as I get unsealed " he said with a smirk and pressed his lips on mine. I tried to push his chest but he grabbed my hands and held them beside my head while kissing me aggressively. He pushed his tongue inside my mouth.
I was shaking my head in protest but he didn't stop. When he stopped he immediately grabbed the top of my dress and tore it off. How strong is he??? He tore off a dress with Corset with his hands?! I almost screamed when he did. I covered myself and tried to crawl up.
He grabbed my hair and made me look at him. "Did I say to cover yourself???" He asked. His eyes shined. Tears falling down from my eyes. He smirked and licked my neck with his long tongue. I was shaking from fear. "You know seeing you scared makes me more turned on" he whispered.
I couldn't breathe. He grabbed the hem of my dress and pulled it over my head. My boobs bounced out. He looked at those with lust in his eyes. His eyes shined in the dim light. He didn't waste any time, crashed his mouth on my breast licking, sucking and teasing the nipple and squeezing the other one with his hand. I moaned in the sensation. I grabbed his hair and tried to stop him by pulling it but it didn't even affect him. "M-my lord stopppp" I screamed but he didn't stop. "It's Satoru, darling.... I won't kill you if you call me Satoru"
Then he took off my pantie. He looked at my pussy. He rubbed his finger on my clit and whispered " so wet. You naughty little slut, getting wet for me huh?". Then he licked my pussy. I couldn't help but moan loudly. He smirked at my reaction and undo his pants.
His dick sprang out. It was too big and too thick. "Look... this is what you have done to me..." he said while stroking his dick. Fear grabbed me by my neck. " S-Satoru no no no... P-please no... s-stop" I begged and called him Satoru as he said so maybe he listens to me? but didn't even listen to me and slammed his whole dick inside me in one slide. I screamed. He didn't even give me time to adjust his size and started thrusting in and out roughly. I was through my legs with pain and begging him to stop. And he liked it so much. His thrust became harder and harder.
I clenched around him tightly and he moaned loudly " you know.... you're the first witch I love....I always hated all the witches.... never seen such a gorgeous witch like you.... f-fuck what great present I got as soon as I got unsealed" he started rubbing my clit with his thumb and I bite his shoulder scratched his back to control myself. With a few more thrusts I came. He was still thrusting roughly. I felt his cock pulsing inside me. I tried to push him away with all of my strength." Ughh...no no no no...ahhhhhh... I don't want this ..." I moaned. "Do you still think you can make me stop?" He said with a smirk. I dig my nails more deeper into his back as he Marked me. He continued thrusting. Within a minute he came inside me I could feel his seed inside me. He pulled out. He fell beside me on the bed.
"You need to be loved? I'll give you all the love you deserve..... now spread your legs again.... I'm not done yet.... I was sealed for over 500 years.... you don't expect me to stop right now, do you?" He said and chuckled demonicly.
Give me your requests guys....
I love when you give me your requests 💕

Hello! Can you help me and/or give me examples of how to write a pre-teen? Specifically a slightly mature for their age but still socially-awkward, selfless, empathetic, extroverted 10-year-old
How to Write a Pre-Teen
Voice and Language
Simple but specific vocabulary: Pre-teens might not use very complex words, but they often know and throw in some “big words” they’ve recently learned or mimic words they hear adults use. Don’t overdo it, though—they’ll often misapply or half-understand these terms, which can create natural, humorous moments.
“It’s totally, like, a catastrophe that I forgot my project.”
Expressive dialogue: Pre-teens are enthusiastic and often exaggerate. They can also shift quickly between emotions, from excitement to frustration.
“That was the best movie ever!” might turn into “Actually, I mean, it was kinda boring in some parts, but, you know, overall…”
Thoughtful yet blunt: Kids this age often haven’t fully learned the “filters” adults use. They can be direct and say things that are surprisingly insightful or unexpectedly honest.
Thoughts and Perspective
Developing identity and opinions: They’re beginning to form their own beliefs but still echo the views of family, teachers, or friends.
“Mom says people should never lie, but I wonder if little lies are okay if they help people feel better…”
Questioning and introspective moments: Pre-teens are curious about life, relationships, and “big ideas.” They may ask questions, but sometimes keep their deep thoughts to themselves, exploring them internally.
“If friends are supposed to be there for each other, why do I feel alone even when they’re around?”
Struggle with abstract concepts: At this age, they’re just beginning to understand abstract ideas like justice or friendship but often approach them in straightforward, literal ways.
Behavior and Actions
Impulsivity and energy: They might shift quickly between activities and emotions, getting distracted or excited without much control over it. They may also blurt out ideas or act before thinking, especially if they’re extroverted.
For instance, a character might immediately jump up to help someone even if they aren’t sure what to do, or they might “borrow” something without fully considering the consequences.
Physical awkwardness: Pre-teens can be a bit clumsy as they’re still growing into their bodies. This can lead to endearing, awkward moments.
They might knock something over, trip over their own feet, or feel self-conscious in ways that show they’re still figuring themselves out physically as well as socially.
Friendships and Social Dynamics
Navigating social rules: Pre-teens are very aware of social “rules” but may not fully understand them. This is an age when they care a lot about what their friends think, but they’re also just beginning to question these dynamics.
A pre-teen might want to befriend the “cool” kids but feel conflicted when they realize their values don’t align. Or they may try too hard to impress friends and feel self-conscious afterward.
Conflicted loyalties: Friendships are often intense at this age, and they might struggle with conflicting feelings if friends argue or if they feel left out.
“I really like hanging out with Sarah, but I know Emma doesn’t. Maybe if I can make them both laugh, we could all just… get along?”
Small gestures: Pre-teens often show they care in understated ways, like sharing snacks, giving a small gift, or cheering someone up when they’re down. For a socially-awkward pre-teen, these gestures may come out clumsy but sweet.
Insecurity and Self-Awareness
Self-consciousness mixed with bravery: Pre-teens often fluctuate between trying to fit in and wanting to stand out. They might do something brave but then doubt themselves or quickly retreat if things don’t go as planned.
For instance, a character might volunteer to speak in front of the class only to feel panicked once they’re in the spotlight.
Hyper-awareness of themselves and others: They’re beginning to notice how others perceive them and may get flustered easily or worry about little things, like if their clothes look okay or if they sounded silly.
“I shouldn’t have laughed like that… I bet everyone thought I sounded so weird.”
Joking as a defense: Pre-teens often use humor to cope, covering up their awkwardness or discomfort by making jokes.
Reactions to Conflict and Emotion
Quick emotional shifts: They might go from laughing to frustrated to embarrassed in just a few minutes. They feel emotions intensely and may have outbursts or react strongly to things adults might dismiss as minor.
Heroic ideals vs. real-world disappointments: Many pre-teens have an idealized view of right and wrong, fairness, and heroism, and they may be disappointed when things don’t align with these ideals. They’re just starting to understand that people aren’t all good or all bad.
“I don’t get it… why would she lie about something like that? Friends are supposed to be honest!”

The funny thing is that I have met cis allosexual aromantic men at aro meetups and like...they're just people. They are actually less threatening when they're real than they are when you're just imagining them as a hypothetical. They're just dudes looking for community and to connect with other people and to better understand themselves.
And like, aro-allos they have a lot of the same issues that aro-ace people do: other people projecting assumptions onto you; whether or how to come out to friends and family; how much friend breakups suck and how much worse they are when people around you don't treat them like the devastating thing they are; etc.
What do people think a straight cis dude who isn't really aro is going to do in an LGBTQ space? (I mean tbh the first thing he's going to do is get kicked out because of intra-community bigotry and wind up in an ace-umbrella space, but ignoring that since hopefully maybe one day it will change.)
Like, I have to imagine that if you're a heterosexual heteroromantic cisgender man, there are better things to do with your time than meet up in a coffee shop and talk about feelings with a dozen queer people.
Honestly, if this is something you worry about, you need to get off the internet and spend more time in irl queer spaces if those are available to you --- and if they aren't available to you, then you should perhaps develop some humility and examine your assumptions about these perfect queer spaces you imagine and have never experienced because I can tell you they probably don't look like what you imagine.
does anyone else remember when peoples talking point against asexuality being a queer identity was to make up a cisgender heterosexual but aromantic man who wanted to get in to all the lgbt society meetings or was that just an embarrassing thing people i knew did
#method speaks#i don't like to talk about ace stuff a lot on here#because#like#the disc horse will find you eventually and it will be bad#but people should be aware that when you talk about this#it's not some boogie man#it's some dude named eric#who works at the library and wears band tees
