Was tagged by @starfoozle to share some of the books on my to-read list for 2025 (thank you, friend, this is a fun one!)

First on my list of reading goals is actually to try to finish at least a couple of the in-progress books I carried with me into the new year, but for this challenge I picked ones I haven't actually started yet -- with the exception of Wonder and the Order of Nature, which I read a chapter of for a class years ago and loved (and which may or may not end up being the beginning of PhD dissertation reading in 2025).

This list is mostly non-fiction, as is my wont, though there are a couple fiction books in here for once -- both recommended by friends, so I'm slightly more optimistic I'll actually read and enjoy them. I hear tell the Rivers of London series even has a canon aromantic character, and that Mongrels is actually good werewolf fiction, so I may scratch a couple itches with my reading this year.

i've talked about this a few times but remember! that it was always in tee's camps best interest to not accept a deal until after the tag was applied.

other people have explained it better than me on twitter lol but as i understand it, it goes like this:

tee was widely projected to be the top free agent in this relatively weak free agent class. there are also some desperate teams with a lot of money who definitely would have started a bidding war for tee, likely getting him a contract somewhere in the 30s.

the bengals are very unlikely to pay that amount in the same year that they'll be extending ja'marr (the unfortunate reality of having two number 1 receivers 😔) even if it's what he deserves.

the bengals, instead of letting tee hit FA, will tag tee to prevent that bidding war from happening and keep his cost more within their realm (joe has been putting pressure on them to pay tee his worth regardless, and i'm very much hoping they do! but even then, it probably won't top 30k)

if tee's agent had accepted a deal from the bengals before a bidding war could happen and inflate his numbers, without the pressure of the tag being applied but just to get it done quickly, other prospective clients would see that as tee's agent giving up before he had to. as cutting off any opportunity for a bidding war and a huge contract for no reason.

NOW however, because the team has the right to tag tee a second time (as unfair as it is, and as dumb of a rule as that is) and because all signs point to them enacting that right, tee's agent can say "well! we have no other choice but to negotiate now, i did my best" and no one can say otherwise!

I like how Eveningstar looks really unprepared for just how bloody it got. He immediately tried to distance himself from the fighting, only bit of fighting he did was basically throwing someone off him, and he looked slightly disturbed when it ended up killing Sunstar. Like the power of being leader went to his head but he wasn't actually prepared to go through with all the shit he was talking.

Also, apparently the big brown cat really didn't take kindly to his friend getting killed... Poor blue.

Eveningstar can certainly be ruthless when he wants to, but he was really expecting that confrontation to be more of a "give a smug monologue and then maybe get your guys to rough em up a bit if they don't run" rather than "accidentally kick your ex-clanmate/older cousin into a rock with enough slippy mud-induced force to kill her after she immediately goes for your throat, and then proceed to watch two people die and one of your strongest warriors get seriously injured." not a great tuesday for anyone involved really

Troublesome Tangmere and 249 Squadron Reliable Rebecca!

In an ideal world, we could've had a story where Tangmere causes good old Sundrian Confusion and Delay and then promptly eats shit.

Rebecca as 249 Squadron wasn't my idea, but it's been ingrained into my head nonetheless. I like the idea of a Rebecca that spent most of her life in scrapyards and storage and then still coming out singing- quite literally! But the trauma of it is still very much there, just... lingering. I imagine 'What Rebecca Does' was one of those moments where her anxiety and self doubt got the better of her- she only spent a short while on rails, and while she did pull expresses like The Night Ferry back on the mainland, here on Sodor it seemed that everyone is much more.... experienced and worldly and cool, and most of all, they got modifications and rebuilds to work around their design flaws while Rebecca is still very much an unrebuilt bulleid pacific. Poor girl's not sure what she can really do, after all these years and with her mechanical problems. This isn't even getting into when she WAS in service- her family was fine, and quite loving actually- and the ex SR engines were a decent sort! Everyone else, however...
