I think this was the most interesting Stationhead we've had so far with JK. JK was chatty, informative (well, to an extent), I would maybe even say combative? Maybe that's a little too strong a term to use, but I do think he came to show that he is unbothered by the shitstorm going on and clap back just a little bit. And he knows about that shitstorm, make no mistake.

I see Jikookers falling for this hateful campaign against JK. Not only are they perpetuating it, but they are also adding to it, embellishing it, and spreading it.

By now JK has had several girlfriends named, he's a baby daddy (she was pregnant in Feb, so...), he's going on double dates with his mate Tae, trucking (censorship issues had me change that - you know exactly what it's meant to be) her with the windows and curtains open for all to see (after telling us he's aware he's being followed around including home). All this he managed to get done before he sat down and did hours on end of JM dedicated lives, calling him his fan, flirting with him online while in bed for all of us to see, and going on a 4 day private trip with him.

People that called themselves Jikook supporters (I'm not talking about shippers, they are in this for their own self gratification, while supporters are supposed to be looking out for JM and JK and supporting them both individually and their relationship, which btw is still considered tabooed in their own country), they are rushing to conclusions, and aiding in the spread of these lies.

Why this long winded introduction?

Because Jikook are in an impossible position really. They are a closeted queer couple in a country and industry that would not accept their relationship if it would become publicly known. As long as the door is open for deniability they are ok. Taking that step through that door and out of the closet, that is one hell of a step with many consequences, to them and to those who surround them.

JK is about to release his 1st solo album, and he's in the midst of trying to infiltrate the American and Western music market. To do so they are selling a very certain image, and being queer is not part of it.

They are also both before enlistment to the military.

Them going: "hey bitches, the stories are untrue, we're in a long term loving relationship", is not a realistic expectation. And no matter what JK would say otherwise, the rumours they are just gonna keep coming, cause this train, this coordinated smear attack, it's not finished. And if and when that would be done, we'd be back to Yubi and Rose and Lisa (oh, oops, she's with Freddie), and Miju. Ehm, she's married. But wait, since when has that stopped anyone, eh? It didn't stop the Nicole stories, which, btw, are still rampant, including among some Jikookers (?) - what the actual truck is wrong with people???

So, no Jikook announcement.

A company one? Kind of feel that one won't come either. Again, JK 3D promotions and upcoming album in mind. Not to mention, and this my friends is me being super cynical right now, other than the harassment claims, the company doesn't have a problem with these rumours, given it solidifies his bad boy, truckboy, heterosexual image they are selling right now. There, I said it.

But Jikook, JM and JK, they aren't happy with this. They can't be happy with this. As much as this image is a price to pay, on the way JK is sending us constant hints that it ain't all that you see. That he's a complex being. That he might appear one way in 3D, but another in Seven and another in his CK and Vogue photoshoots (the latter with him being the artistic designer and bringing along some outfits and/or accessories that he wanted himself), not to mention someone else all together in his long lives with us. He tells us this is him. Who we see. But those that only see that image in 3D are just not looking at the full picture he's painting.

It's funny that JK is singing 3D (basically having phone sex and wishing for more) but at the same time he's telling us "this is me in 3D". Not one dimensional. A complex grown up human being.

Btw, I kind of feel like I need to link this post again, seeing that so many are still thinking that having muscles, tattoos and piercings makes you heterosexual or at least bi. Cause, I mean, you must be sexually attracted to women if you are super masculine, and get tattoos or pierce your body, right?

So, JK is trying to show us he's a complex human being. This is him. Not one MV or song he chose to sing. The full picture. The shoots he chooses, the concepts for his songs (do I have to remind of his Seven concept shoot?), his lives, what he shared with us (as in past tense cause Idk how much more he will with everything that's going on).

And in the midst of this, knowing you are in a committed relationship, having your integrity, your good name smeared, being with the person you love and knowing that the world not only doesn't see how dear you are to each other but also thinks you're being sexually intimate with multiple others. Not to mention, having to deal at this young age with the knowledge that there are people out there that hate you enough to want to hurt you on such a level, to ruin your good name, your career. It can be paralyzing. And they put on a brave face. JK says he knows people hate him and good for them, he'll continue to live his life. But it's hard, it's hurtful, and these two, they are the kindest sweetest people out there, they don't deserve this.

Well, not precipice per say. That's being a little dramatic. But I am finally going to get to JK on Stationhead, as in what we got from him during the show.

I guess with this long introduction I should start with the Jikook related, right?

Let's start with JK repeating the endearment JM used in his IG post for 3D.

And then JK basically confirmed that he and JM were together when drawing the cloud whale drawing JM shared with us on IG telling us JK drew it.

Making sure we know that they drew the whale together.

You don't have to understand Korean to hear the amusement in his voice. We don't know when this was taken (CT or perhaps more recently... although my initial thought was CT I'm kind of leaning to it being more recent, like very recent), but we know they were together. We thought so and now JK confirmed it.

Enjoyed confirming it.

He also brought up JM's birthday being this month. Yes, he could be reacting to comments, but we've discussed this multiple times in the past. You know. Choices. And in this case, his choice which ones to answer, right?

Once again, it's all in the way it's all being said. The "I know something you don't" tone of voice. The "a-ha, yeah, Uhah" while supposedly looking up if he's doing something on the day. The "I'm going to be busy...I see I have a schedule..?" ending with a question mark? As in "do I really?" Lol.

The way he was talking, the man has something planned. I really don't want to have any expectations here. But man, he's making it hard for me not to have them. Lmao.

And another JM related comment he chooses to answer:

Ok, so he saw his parents. He goes on to also talk about his mother's cooking (oh, that man is so in trouble with his mom calling her cooking bland, lmao). Kind of gathering from it all that JK was in Busan for the holiday. Could that photo JM shared, you know, the one JK made sure we know they both drew the whale on, have been taken when they were both down in Busan for the holiday? I wonder...

This here is, I feel, JK clapping back a little at the haters. But also telling us, once again, that he's an adult and does adult things. Knows how to work hard when needed, and when to "play hard", as in relax and have a good time, when allowed.

This one isn't about Jikook (well in a sense maybe it is, as it's about shooting down TKKs hopes and prayers, lol). JK clarifying Tae's story about him recording a song at JK's place and JK directing him.

So, no pre-planning, JK's reply "and I was like "suddenly"? And also letting us know Tae didn't record the final at his place. Burn, lol. Also answers (again - like in the Inkigayo live) a question about karaoke with Tae. More or less same answer. More or less "that's a no"?

This is basically JK. Again, when he says I'm showing you my true self. It's not the image of the hunky guy with the sexy expressions doing that sexy choreography with the female dancers hands on him. Well not only. It's the shy introvert that feels awkward when these women are touching him. And just to be clear here. This isn't me saying anything about his sexuality. But it's definitley me saying he is not this careless truckboy people are so badly wanting him to be. Being an adult and having sex (let's call it rex from now on), a lot of it, enjoying it, doesn't make it the core of who you are as a person, doesn't mean you are having rex with multiple people for the only pursual of physical gratification nor does it mean that the rex you are having is necessarily with a female even if you are singing a song saying girl in it, to which the lyrics were not written by yourself. JK also sang a song about having rex 7 days a week, but with that one person, in his words, wanting to be all the time with "the love of my life". One being lyrics to a song he's performing, him being a singer. Lyrics he didn't write himself.

The other is his explanation, his take on the meaning of the song he is singing (also not written by him). Inserting that little very personal touch.

Do we get it? JK isn't the lyrics, the lyrics aren't JK.

Oh, and by the by, JK's lyrics aren't referencing multiple partners. If we are being all about "but he's singing it, so it must be who he is". The multiple partners, the truckboy image, that's Jack Harlow's bit. JK is still talking to one person.

But again, I stress, the song doesn't represent JK as a person or his character. And those that are making that leap are simply...

Moving on.

JK's asked which he prefers more? 7 or 3D. Very diplomatically makes sure we know that at the time he liked Seven and now it's leaning more towards 3D. Well duh, this is him promoting it. Then he combines the two to 7D.

"What's your favourite part of 3D?" Him asking the listeners.

JK talked about eating chicken, being busy practicing all the time (I am curious to know what for), finishing up and going home to workout, shower and sleep.

He also talked about GCF and his appreciation for Army.

Asked about music or variety show, and the answer is probably not, it's hard for him (this is where the shy introvert part of him wins, I guess). It's easier to be alone on a stage in front of thousands performing than have to interact one on one with people that you aren't as familiar or comfortable with. On stage you go after much practice. Small talk and interviews and socializing means having to be focused (neuro divergent prince here) and it's so so hard for a shy introvert to deal with. Key word ALONE.

Although he's asked about further plans he's adamant not to give spoilers (well, more so afraid he'll be told off by the company, lol).

He misses the old days I guess. Of Kakao Fancafe. The intimacy of it. The safety of it perhaps.

He also wants to cook for army.

I feel like him telling us he is pulling back on the lives, allowing for the mystery, well he's also missing those lives. He needs that connection with his fans. Maybe even more so with this path he's going down, disconnecting from the idol and becoming the mega star. He needs that emotional connection with his fans. But at the same time, a more intimate setting, where he can really connect with them, is something he prefers.

And again, the connection with Army.

Maybe I'm being overly cynical (I Do Not know these people and this is just my outsider view), but the whole 'Piastri family social media' stuff has made me uncomfortable from the start because (to me) it gives off huge 'chasing clout and followers by using my famous family member'

None of them were particularly active social media posters before, none of them had an interest in influencing or building a career from it. But, suddenly now Oscar is more popular they are posting A Lot. (For comparison, someone like Max's sister has definitely used her brother to her advantage in gaining a following and popularity, but, she also seemingly always had an interest in fashion and makeup and having a career in it + her posts are not about Max/F1 directly)

It's only going to cause headache and pain and sorry, if my brother was famous, I would not want to even remotely see people thirst trapping him or shipping him romantically with people. Why would you invite that into your space. Also, if I was on Oscar's PR team I'd be fucking worried because what happens if your mother or sister says/posts something that is controversial or actually bad. That now will have a huge audience and actually affect how people see Oscar, and he will be obligated to comment on it. And, if he doesn't, it will be to his detriment (See Max and the Piquet family)

Obviously, fans should just act fucking normally, but we all know that isn't how things work on the internet. You sometimes have to take steps yourself to avoid getting into those situations.

see i personally don't view it as them using him for clout because i think that it is at minimum a symbiotic relationship from which they both benefit. i am a long time hater of the piastri family socials, but i have disliked it because in my personal opinion oscar's family are being used as fodder for his pr.

you say they weren't really active before oscar's career in f1 but even if they are seeking to become influencers etc. which i cannot confirm or deny because i don't know them and frankly have no interest in them, the main reason imo that they did become more active was for oscar. it seems as though his pr is very much trying to portray him as a normal, down to earth relatable kind of guy. a gen z kimi raikkonen who is very calm and level headed (even if he's nothing like kimi, nor honestly is kimi like that). and it benefits oscar (and by extension his pr team) for him to have a cool mum who says funny things on twitter and cool young sisters interested in kpop etc. who aren't impressed by him. his image benefits from the "normal family guy" aesthetic.

there's a reason dts wanted to film him having breakfast with his family. his family has become a part of his media strategy. his mother goes on podcasts or whatever as part of his pr strategy. she is there to talk about him and to promote him without it seeming like promotion. you think if oscar or his team didn't want that she would still have gone on? i don't. that's not to say she's being disingenuous or inauthentic, but i'm sure someone went through roughly what media narrative they wanted to tell and how she should tell it. they are part of oscar's media strategy. they're there to make people think that he's normal and just some guy who happens to be an exceptionally talented driver.

i don't know if his family are benefitting from his fame or to what extent they may be but it's not oscar who should be worried about fan response to his family, it's them. they are being used as a proxy personality for him (and i know that sounds mean but it's not intended as criticism of oscar himself) and at some point things are going to get nasty. what happens if oscar and lando get into an actual wdc title fight at some point? what happens if the chirlies or cultLH turn on him and his fans? oscar has the protection of being a famous f1 driver. his family don't. people will send death threats to his sisters or turn up at his mum's house. they'll search through everything they've ever posted looking for a miniscule detail to cancel them over and justify their hatred and abuse.

everyone involved in this, oscar, his family, his pr team, mclaren, their pr team, needs to recognise that enabling these parasocial relationships, letting people think of oscar's mum as their friend or mum figure, letting people think it's okay to send his sister rpf as though she's their friend is not acceptable. there do need to be boundaries (frankly i think that all f1 drivers need much stricter boundaries than they currently have because some fan behaviour is worrying. people have already shown up at charles's house this is not a worst case scenario it's already happening) for the safety of everyone involved.

i do also think there's something to be said about fan culture and the increasing entitlement to a public figure's life. as fans i think we all need to be a lot more respectful of these people, whether they're famous or simply connected to someone famous. at the end of the day they are people and should be granted basic respect and privacy because they are people. we do not know them, we are not friends with them. how we feel about them should have no bearing on their lives.

but public figures personal lives are increasingly being used for promotional purposes and i think they need to recognise that they are feeding the entitlement and aggression of fans when they do that. the reason why fans get more and more demanding is because people keep offering up more of themselves and their families for promotion. and i think that needs to stop before someone gets hurt.

There were and are so many reasons for Harry not to speak about Larry theories.

I think most importantly: Harry never talks about anything personal in detail, so why would he break that rule for something he surely thinks is nonsensical (if he thinks about it at all)? He's been clear about his rule since he was 17.

It's not that Larries have got an actual handle on his personal life, it's that to debunk them would come close to giving something that isn't work, and he says every album cycle, three or four times, that he's not doing that. (His haters never listen to him, though.)

Secondly he worked so hard, straight out of the gate, on expanding his fan base. He went into film: a good way for GP to get to know his name. SOTT not being pop, HS1 not being pop, both of those coming out in the run-up to Dunkirk being released: none of it was an accident, surely. (Some anon said maybe he delayed SOTT release till the others had had a go, to level the playing field a bit, but I don't think it was about that, I think it was tied to Dunkirk release.) Now people could see him in promo and when they google him there is a solo album right there.

He also did covers that were classic, beloved older songs: The Chain, Big Yellow Taxi, Sledgehammer especially. Like I don't think this is cynical, he clearly loves music from those eras: I just think it is super smart to have multiple, shareable clips out there so a whole different audience can go, oh wow, he's actually good. I didn't see the others do this at all (and they didn't have to do it via BBC radio, they could record something themselves, but they didn't). Niall has Lizzie McAlpine and Post Malone covers but those guys don't mean a lot really to a wider, older audience.

What I'm getting at (sorry this is so long!) is that if he's talking about Larry theories, or Louis, then he's keeping that link with 1D alive, and I for one think he wanted to break away very clearly and work on his new fan base. I think his 1D fans see this as a betrayal but that is because they think very simply and they don't want to be replaced.

But they have been replaced many times over, sad for them but they aren't the good quality fans. They are the annoying ones who talk a lot about 'the boys' 'they are still best friends' and cry for a reunion every time one of them says the name of another. They hold all of the 1D members back actually. Harry has said he wants to do his thing, it's different every time, go back and listen to the old stuff if that's what you like, doesn't bother him.

Also there is the Larry madness that makes them immediately turn anything Louis says into part of their conspiracy. Harry doesn't need any of that negative attention. Louis needs it or his audience dies (it is already happening). I am sure Harry sees Louis say something, and sees the result, and he is never going down that route, it is a waste of everyone's energy.

it comes to the point where grima no longer throws venom at older lucina nor does she engage with her, because the memories of when they were happier far overpower what she vaguely remembers of their past feud

why, you might wondering, is that the case? i'm glad you asked because i will tell you very happily

so feh posits the idea that grima is equal parts man hater and equal parts chrom lover.

her lvl40 confession has her dare the summoner to find someone who would accept her, warts and all, and in a few of her lines, she references the idea that she wants to be accepted

then comes the halloween tt+ with s!chrom and h!grima. grima is clearly haunted by her successful murder attempt of her husband, while chrom, whose first appearance has him beg robin to escape and to keep herself safe, is interested in being her friend, claiming that she's robin, so long as a part of her lingers

here is where it slips into headcanon territory, BUT i think that it makes sense for bad future timeline!robin to be more grumpy and angry than her canon timeline counterpart. our robin has no memories of any traumatic events, save maybe physical ones that bleed into her actions.

she's a blank slate and she's molded entirely by her gratefulness to chrom and to the shepherds, rather than any separate life experiences.

but bad future timeline robin likely grew up in hiding, being fearful of the constant threat of turning into grima, and likely resented the grimleal for ruining her chance at an idyllic childhood. she might've been more cynical, balancing out to be more neutral after emmeryn's death

anyway, the point is, robin's lack of memories and lack of lack of a chrom compels her to reject grima. but bad future timeline's doesn't have those things.

older lucina has a lot of baggage associated with her, because she tries to kill grima, while chrom is associated most strongly with his death.

and for a grima who is robin, just all the worst amplified (assuming they're the same entity), nothing is going to be more important than the happy times she had

she might not warm up to her baby right away, but it will happen.

i just finished reading the atlas paradox and can i just say thank you so much. i've been in a bit (understatement of the century) of a reading slump for the past year and then i decided you know what fuck it i'm reading a book i know i'll love instead of trying new things and i picked up the atlas paradox. i think i've read it in two weeks (which is a record for the past year) and oh my god i missed this feeling. the book was incredible and i stayed up past midnight more than once because i was dying to see what happened next. so thank you so much for that experience

now onto less well phrased and more spoilery thanks: OH MY GOD THIS BOOK!! i just!!! my goodness it was incredible and while i ended the last book with certain opinions (was a bit of a callum hater i have to say) the events of t.a.p. managed to switch all of that around (and now i'm a mega callum fan). also the relationships!!! the whole tristan and callum love/hate/want-you-dead-but-not-really thing had me clutching my heart and needing to take a pause from reading because ahhhh my babies!! also nico and gideon. need i say more (i will because i love them too much not to. oh my god that final chapter!! i think i actually teared up tbh). libby's corruption arc did not disappoint (belen i'm so sorry you deserved better). reina's shift in alliances and her strange hatred for parisa was amazingly written and i love being in her brain it's so bizarre in there (in the best way). CALLUMM!! i adore him and his cynicism. parisa was so interesting -- i loved seeing more of the dalton situation. tristan is still one of my favourites i have to say (but maybe he's been knocked down to number two, which i think callum (my number one) would appreciate). oh and ezra. his povs were so interesting. and i loved that the book both started and ended with gideon! always had a bit of a soft spot for gideon tbh

basically there aren't enough words to describe how much i loved this book, so thanks again for writing it and inspiring me to not only read more but also to engage more in my own writing!

after all that Love i must have my Hater Moment or Negative Nelly Time or whatever (this is a diary entry)

i do see a. broader pattern of downplaying the extent of rick's abuse and of the show sort of, falling under its own spell sometimes, in these last few seasons.. like look, isn't it inspiring that he's changing and going to therapy EUGH and isn't this what everyone wanted, now you don't have to sit through so much cruelty! yay! and then people buying into that, buying into good rick, crybaby backstory rick, and forgetting who his other half is and why they're like that and what holds them together. it feels wrong to me because i don't think that's how it should've been, something's missing, something's inconsistent, and i think it's the focus on morty and on how rick's fucked him up that just hasn't been there in the way that i wanted it to be 😔

like, people are gushing about rick's love and capacity for change because that's what the episodes have been about mostly, that's how it's been framed, and even in the 'inside the episode' they talk about how people are finally getting to see rick and diane interact and that they wanted her to be as smart and cool as rick etc etc. and i just. i think diane is only as important or interesting as she is important in the light of their relationship. when it stops being about the grooming rick and his grandson and starts being just about rick, when we start caring about rick's dead wife as a character, we're not on the right track lol

but that's just me!!! s6 and s7 occupy this dubious space in my mind where like, i'm happy the writing's more consistent but i wish it still had that spark or that bite or i don't know what, i enjoyed them overall but i wish i enjoyed them more, i wish the episodes other than the finales felt important and treated the rick-morty dynamic more like a cool rock they want to show me and less like an afterthought or something to be dealt with in the designated plot episodes. i wish i wish i wish

it's not even that i NEED rick to be the biggest cunt ever or to stay as awful as he used to be, i don't think that's it at least, i just don't like how they went about this shift in the family.. the moments that aren't as deliberately dramatic as the argument in the lightsaber episode for example really take away from the whole thing for me. like one minute they're cool and the next it's like oooh or are they cool tho?? maybe they aren't, we need to create problems to keep the show going so they aren't! but it doesn't feel like a natural evolution to me, definitely not all of it. and that's not a concrete thing that you can judge imo, but part of it is concrete, because i do want the abuse narrative to be what it is and for it to not shove anything under the rug. i'm not sure this is how morty would act, given all the things rick's done to him and with him, and so that makes me think the writers aren't primarily interested in exploring a character like morty. but why would they be, of course what they're primarily doing is trying to create consistent, fun television, trying to juggle 'canon' and 'episodic', write good jokes, please the long time fans, keep people watching

i can't help my cynicism: fear no mort was great, i'm still worried about the general direction though 🥴 and who knows, maybe the next season's going to recontextualize these last two for me, maybe the end of the entire show will allow me an interpretation that i can't afford right now. maybe there will be moments that will blow my tits clean off and make me feel insane!! but for now i feel like i've been feeding on scraps

Dang, Eugene apparently hated the job?? That’s insane but oh so funny. He really just said “see ya hoes. I’m finally free.” They all seem so fake and forced tbh. Watcher seems so genuine in everything they do, it’s why I love them so much.

Now I'm gonna put a disclaimer that my only knowledge of him not liking this is the impression I got from his goodbye video, multiple comments from fans on reddit that he's not been in their content for more than a year and that it came as no surprise to the fanbase. That's what I gather from people being genuine fans of that channel, and the annoucement video and Eugene's are the only two videos (not counting the phoning it in ep with shane but I didn't watch anything else) are the only content I watched from the try guys aside from one "rise and fall of the try guys" video from a commentary youtuber last year to understand what the drama was back then.

My impression from his video was "what the fuck were you doing in that channel for that long you are very talented individual I wish you the best".

I genuinely am not the person to judge if people are fake or not or what's more real or genuine. All I know about him is that he was a fan favorite and the only non-white try guy from the main four. With this consideration, firing him and telling the news outlets that "It was neccessary for Eugene to leave for us to progress" and making a joke about him being dead in the announcement video feels very fucking racist to me, especially because the video is headlined by two white men who are almost indistinguishable. That video feels fake to me as a non-fan (now hater) of the try guys, feels very cynical and a cashgrab. It did not make me want to subscribe and I am the most objective person to judge this just like many commentary channels who didn't know who watcher was before all this.

Now I heard that "this announcement was geared towards the fans" and the joke about Eugene being dead is kind of an inside one for the fanbase that I couldn't get being a bystander. That's fine, okay not for me. What I don't like is that the announcement video of watcher was also geared towards their greatest fans who have half a braincell to not be entitled. To me "goodbye youtube" is a cinematic masterpiece and I feel robbed of not being able to appreciate it fully because we had the racist virtoil spew on watcher for uhhh daring to leave youtube and say fuck the alghorytm. That's apparently bad when 2/3 of the cofounders are not white, but when 2/3 cofounder ceos are white and let go of the only non white one that's great and superb and what people want.

Like when you are parting ways with a man of color and hiring mostly white cast members and want your fans to pay money that's fine. If watcher wants to keep employing people (most of them who are people of color) and keep making content on the same level it was now and improve? Very bad because their video wasn't funny or something.

Ignoring the fact that it was in line with the last two making watcher episodes, and they had a very nice narrative of presenting the streamer in the watcher weekly + set with mood lights and as a nod to their first ever watcher photoshoot. They are sentimental guys! That was the point of that video, it was end of an era and I saw some of the choices for Eugene's parting video it was equally sentimental and genuine besides that one jab at sad couch video. Like fuck, maybe it is to you to me it's an expression of who they are and I think that Watcher really loves their fans they are just worse at PR and people will swallow everything if it's presented nicely and by two white men.

I'm seeing a lot of online creators I follow falling into increasingly toxic styles of Online Brainrot "Discourse" and its making me really sad. They're getting that flat-behind-the-eyes, closed-mouth-wide-smile look where you can SEE the empathy, kindness and connection to reality dying.

I want to comment and tell them I'm worried abt them but ik it comes off as condescending. at least one of them is a lot younger than me (19yo) and as someone who went through a version of this at that age, it breaks my heart. I know I may just have to unfollow and let them hit rock bottom on this themselves, but.... Christ! Fuck!!!!

and the worst part is that they all seem totally convinced that they've ESCAPED The Brainrot, that they're COMBATTING it, that they've found the "truth" behind the Brainrot and are the ones (sometimes ~The Only Ones~) who are brave enough to tell the world. its not conspiracy crap, just really REALLY bad takes like

Ok I know this sounds bad but man…I find Elaine kind of annoying? Like, she does come off as very immature to me and it’s bothersome to see so many people translate that into innocence and…blindly defend her (especially the Austin haters). Elaine has flaws. She’s nosy. She doesn’t know when to stop. She doesn’t think far ahead. Yes, she is kind and funny and seems very sweet…but she’s flawed. I just wish people would look at her more critically like they do with Austin instead of trying to make her into a “perfect victim”. I’m blowing up Austin haters with my mind.

tbh... for every 1 austin hater there are 3 people condemning an austin hater. he's not getting nearly as much hate as people think he is jfksjds but the beauty of literary analysis is that everyone connects to different characters, so i'm not going to try to change your mind (i wouldn't want to even if i could, your interpretation is your own), i just want to share my thought process!

re: elaine having flaws. i agree!! i put a lot of care into making sure that each character has their own issues. i'm glad you see flaws in elaine, because they're there to create conflict. she is immature. sometimes her actions are completely unjustified, because my goal is to humanize every character, not to either endorse or denounce their actions. humans make confusing decisions when emotions are involved. another thing i do is put characters together who have flaws that will multiply in each others' presence. elaine is trusting and naive to a fault, she'll dig her nails into something before she lets it slip from her fingers, she's insecure in every way, and she has a very specific, fairy tale-esque view of her life, which she'll try desperately to make fit even when it doesn't work. she's 17 and she acts 17. austin is the opposite: he's realistic to a cynical degree, he thinks his life is shit and it will always be shit, but he's confident (sometimes annoyingly so) in his own abilities, and he has very little patience for trying to figure people out; tell it to him straight or he won't even try to understand. he's 18 but he's acted like an adult all his life. each of their flaws, which on their own wouldn't be so drastic, are compounded when they're together. austin himself is aware of their differences:

when previously, austin thought it was cute how elaine could be endlessly whimsical and care so deeply about other people, now he's wondering if maybe those traits are born from a lack of self identity. elaine interprets it as austin thinking she's "stupid" when that isn't the case – "stupid" is how elaine feels about herself. i also think it's important to note that austin knew exactly who elaine was when he asked her out. he likes her personality and that includes her flaws. (i don't want to go too far into detail because after just 1 more scene you'll hear it from his own mouth). it's only in moments of conflict that these personality traits take on a negative connotation.

the same concept can be applied to the scene we just saw. elaine's flaws (being too nosy, taking things personally when they have nothing to do with her) are compounded due to stevie's flaws (closing herself off out of fear, every emotion feels BIG because she was never taught how to deal with them). suddenly, elaine's interest in stevie's relationship is a bad thing, when previously stevie joked about it and had no problem with her meddling. let's be real, stevie and matt NEVER would've dated for as long as they did if it weren't for elaine's meddling. there were no consequences for those actions in the past (stevie never told her to stop) so she didn't even see it as a flaw. it's only now she's re-thinking everything.

my point with all this is that of course elaine has flaws. i don't feel that the narrative gives any extra credence to her flaws than the other characters. you will never hear me say that elaine is without fault, but she deserves just as much understanding and sympathy as austin does. they're both so very young, they have their whole lives to learn and grow 💖

Ahh, this might hurt Olivia. As a result of the announcement, Matty speaks openly about his issues with Olivia. Matty was the only housemate who nominated Olivia this week, but there's a chance his opinion will become contagious now.

In jail, Hallie feels like she's let her family down.

A bit of paranoid misunderstanding: with the secret codes, Olivia and Hallie wrote the word no - N, O - and some housemates think they were spelling out Noky's name. They were not, they were the start of the word NOMINATED.

This is such a turning point for Olivia and Hallie. They received three nominations between them yesterday, but today everyone's furious with both of them.

It's interesting. The code game was just a game. They weren't being Nasty Nick from BB1. Plenty of people in the house have gossiped in private. Hallie and Olivia broke the letter of the law with their messages, but didn't realise it, and didn't intend to.

So now their private conversation has been made public, because they didn't think the secret messages would count as a rulebreak.

Oh, blimey. Sounds like Matty has a difficult history with food. He confronts Kerry, who deals with the situation ... kind-of badly. I think she felt she was being attacked, which wasn't Matty's intention. He wanted to open up about a difficult thing in his own life - and felt dismissed, since Kerry moved on quickly to defend herself.

Hallie apologises to Zak. Turns out Zak's especially hurt because he's been so positive about her. He accepts her apology nicely. And finally, he gets to respond to the accusation that's spread like wildfire through the house.

It's not that Zak tries to be everyone's friend to avoid nomination. It's that if he sees someone sitting alone, he can't help but come over to keep them company. He knows what it's like to be alone, and he can't bear to see anyone else in that position.

I believe this completely.

Hallie assures Noky that her name wasn't mentioned at all, that this was a misunderstanding. Noky chooses to accept this apology, but worries that she'll look like an idiot if she's wrong. Noky worries often about how she'll be perceived.

Hallie is really gutted about this misunderstanding. She really hasn't said a bad word about Noky.

Tom has identified a mouse living under the hot tub. He's named it Roger.

Oh no, Kerry confronts Zak about the Matty situation! Kerry's really tied herself in knots over this. Matty wasn't annoyed with her! At least, not until she dismissed his attempt at opening up.

Kerry's annoyed because she had a private, bitchy conversation about Matty with Zak, and is horrified that Zak told Matty about the conversation. Zak says that in that case, he simply won't have private conversations with Kerry anymore.

Zak talks to Matty. Matty's perception? There's a clique in the house, and they're the mean girls. Kerry, Olivia, Hallie.

Oh gosh I'm under pressure 🙈. I have thoughts but they're like not coherent at all lol. Okay so my thoughts are people's responses to Neil Gaiman's abuse "we need to be more skeptical and more critical of who we stan and who we support" is an overcorrection that won't actually do anything. If anything the skeptical and critical lens IS the cause of unhealthy parasocialism. People's love for Gaiman is parasocialism but people's need to nitpick his actions is also parasocialism. The haters in the Taylor snark subreddit are parasocial just as much as swifties.

Kinda related but maybe this is a topic that you don't want to talk about for now so I understand but I think this is the same as when Blake's complaints against Justin Baldoni came out and people were like "you have to be critical and skeptical of whatever you read and see on the internet, EYEEEEE was critical of Justin first!!" Which is like yes you should (I was) but that could've gone into conspiracy theory territory. Like at a certain point you could be creating scenarios in your head to be skeptical about a person. (Not that many people were doing that in this case but you feel me?).

Anyway I also think people right now are doing everything they can to protect themselves from the next time they get burn. It's easier to say "oh I won't invest myself into any sort of media anymore and I'm going to be skeptical and critical of everything I see and read now" because it's easier to just shut it all down. But like I said it doesn't really work because then you start to view everything in a cynical and bad faith way (like certain people sending you asks right now lol).

i understand why people think "watch out, your beloved author might be a piece of shit like neil gaiman!" is a strong argument against parasocialism... but honestly, i think the desire to know every detail about a public figure in order to personally judge if they're good or bad, is the bigger problem. a public figure's badness is only a small piece of why parasocialism is unhealthy and weird.

Seeing people getting angry about Shoma's lutz attempts... then seeing that Russian coach with Grassl at Euros...

Maybe I'm too cynical but something I've come to think the past several weeks is, if the Shoma haters had to choose between, "Shoma retires at the end of this season, but Russia is no longer banned from competing with no punishment," and, "Russia is banned until after the 2026 Olys, but Shoma competes in those Olys with a good chance at gold," almost all of them would rather the former happen.

Yeah...feels like you would be right. I dunno though if that scale should be comparable but the drama some make out of Shoma's 4Lz attempt...it seems comparable...

Actually my problem with them is their blatant double standards...it's ok if it's anyone else but Shoma deserves no scores, no titles...

If other skaters have the same problems on their jumps BUT even include it in their programs (for example Kaori going for 3Lz in her SP and FS despite it not being a Lutz either (love you Kaori, it's just an example) they don't get as much sh*t. Shoma just posted a TRAINING video - is even trolling with 🤷‍♂️ caption - yet still ppl act as if he started a war and declared his jumps as picture perfect.

As for Grassl - I don't even know what more to say to that really - going to Russia atm is just not it and it's wrong on so many levels but imo it shows that Russian skating isn't really banned in thinking in this sport. I think the Russians assume they will return and everything will be like before and atm it looks like they are right...ISU should step in to ban Russian coaches and making clear that it's not welcomed to train with them or invite them, but the ISU doesn't do much just the bare minimum bc it's advised by IOC.

It's true many fans who rooted for Grassl, showed their disappointment and want him to flop now, even invite ppl to boo him at Euros...but still before any of that happened they rooted die hard for him to beat Shoma and other skaters with better technique and if one skater has questionable technique it's undeniable Grassl. So it's rather cynical of the same ppl to be worked up on Shoma's 4Lz attempt, but - before Grassl chose to cooperate with Team Tutberidze - root for him to win Euros with his technical problems on 4Lz, 4F and 4Lo. So are they concerned bc of incorrect technique being used? Guess not...just admit you hate Shoma and move on, it's not so hard.

thanks for sharing! i sort of had a similar experience in early 2021. i got curious after hearing backlash about the movie, came onto tumblr and it immediately launched me into jimercury blogs hehe. i saw essentially no mary apologists, i DID see one of the hater lady's accounts in someone's replies but it was clear to me after a few scrolls that the blog belonged to someone unhinged and irrational LMAO so i just ignored her. i was in no way a mary stan, but i was indeed very sympathetic with movie!mary. have to admit the movie worked on my smooth brain lmao, but it only really took maybe an hour of scrolling through the jimercury tag to get me hooked. also, i never really understood the appeal of the film over the actual band which i think is much more interesting. the band dynamics in the film was pretty much nonexistent. the thing that stood out was mary and freddie's story, but that turned out to be disappointing after reading up on the actual history sooo idk what there is to like personally 🤷‍♀ can you share some of the inactive blogs you enjoyed? i know some but i think there's a heap of content buried due to them no longer being reblogged. i would love to trudge through some old content no matter what they are!

No problem! Yeah there are very few outright Mary stans on tumblr now, though how much people are willing to correctly criticize her actions varies. The movie did purposefully make people's hearts weep for Poor Saint Mary, so I understand why you initially sympathized with her. I totally agree that the actual band and the real stories behind it are faaaar more interesting than the film. One of my biggest gripes with it is that it reduces an extraordinary band to a generic Hollywood band dynamic. They had such an interesting story with strong personalities, and yet the movie watered everyone down to tell the fake Freddie and Mary story. Ugh. But I digress.

This might sound cynical, but I honestly think some people just thought the actors were hot and that's why they were movie stans, but not band fans. They liked Queen's hit songs well enough to listen to them and see a movie about the band, but ultimately, what attracted them was, well, physical attraction lol. It's why you had fics specifying "Ben Hardy!Roger Taylor x Reader." As the actors moved on from the film, so did their fans. These folks only liked Queen casually, in my view, and that's why their blogs went abandoned or changed a lot in just a year.

Unfortunately, the blogs I saw when I first arrived here are almost all gone--I mean straight up deactivated and inaccessible. his-majesty-king-mercury had some really great posts, though I didn't read them all. Their blog is still there, but they're inactive now. I'd followed a blog called radio-freddie that's completely gone now, in addition to one called bishi or something similar? Someone in instagram had left a comment that bishi was a very knowledgeable blog, and Phoebe's real insta page actually liked the comment, so it was implied he read it! And yet the blog totally disappeared. The user said they were moving to insta, but they deleted that account after a couple posts, too. It's a shame, I have no idea what happened to them, and I wonder if anyone else around here remembers who I'm talking about?
