hello! i was wondering, would you mind explaining what's going on with daniel grassl? i feel like i'm missing something..
So apart from some of the most atrocious technique in the sport, there is the Eteri thing. If you've watched ISU's yt stream of the free skate today you may have heard that he went to Russia to train for a bit.
In 2022 he qualified for the GPF but finished last and feeling disappointed he sought better training opportunities in Sambo. In December 2022. When Russia was already banned from competitions due to the invasion of Ukraine, which he dismissed because he felt the politics should have nothing to do with sport. In December 2022 Eteri et al. were all under still fresh spotlight from the doping scandal in Beijing. To make it all worse he missed the last season because he missed his three mandatory doping tests. Apparently he forgot to update his location in the system, but that to happen right after he was training with the team that is literally famous for doping an athlete... it's not a good picture.
That's a brief summary :)

Feel the need to put the concept on the figure skating tag: we don't tag our hate.
When you dislike everything about a skater, go ahead and make your posts, your memes. Keep their name out of the tags.
When someone who enjoys a person's skating goes on the tag to see more, they should not be subjected to spite and hate and vile wishes that they don't skate well.

Grand Prix Final Preview
Men - My Predictions
Ilia Malinin (USA) - No one has been able to top the 301.82 he scored at Skate Canada (although Yuma got pretty close with a 300.09 at NHK), and he hasn’t brought out the 4A yet. If he puts down his technical content like he usually does the win should be his. He has had trouble with his 4Lo, he doubled it at Skate America and only did a triple at Skate Canada, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can land the 4Lo here. Super nervous to see his new costume for the free because I don’t see it getting any better than his current one.
Yuma Kagiyama (Japan) - If we’re being honest I really want Yuma to win this. In order for that to happen he’s gonna have to skate like he did at NHK (minus the fall in the free) and Ilia might have to make some mistakes. His skating is absolutely breathtaking and I’m so excited to his perform. His short program is stellar, however I don’t care for the bull on the back of his free program costume
Shun Sato (Japan) - The only way Shun is keeping Kevin at bay is if he goes clean because he does have the higher tech content, but Kevin’s PCS will blow Shun’s out of the water so I think it will be close. His short has been great, but he’s had some trouble with his free where he does attempt four quads. Also, he keeps getting a stsq2 so hopefully he’ll be able to bump that up a bit.
Kevin Aymoz (France) - His short program is so groovy and he moves so well to it and just gives great attitude overall. He’s been making some mistakes in his technical content but his PCS balances it out. This event is where things started to go wrong for him last season, so hopefully history doesn’t repeat itself. It is a home event, so I think the pressure will be a little stronger but hopefully Kevin doesn’t let it get to him.
Mikhail Shaidorov (Kazakhstan) - It’s very sad that Adam had to withdraw but I’m so excited to see Mikhail here! He has improved so much this season in terms of his performance skills (although he still has a long way to go) and he made history with the 3A4T! I think the has great momentum going into this event after scoring so well in the Cup of China. I just hope he’s able to go out there a do his best (and pls no falling on the choreo sequence!)
Daniel Grassl (Italy) - If his jumps don’t get called at this event I’m gonna lose it. I think both of his programs are boring and I think he’s very slow on the ice. Wish pizza king was here instead tbh.
Women - My Predictions
Kaori Sakamoto (Japan) - She’s had a bit of a rough start to the season, but her performance at NHK was phenomenal. She definitely has the opportunity to get a repeat win here, but mistakes will be costly as the competition here is fierce. She is truly the one to beat here, and the same can be said for JNats which is happening later this month.
Amber Glenn (USA) - As the only competitor with a reliable 3A in both the short and the free program, Amber is a shoe in for a spot on the podium. She’s made a couple of small mistakes on her technical elements but she’s had a pretty solid season so far. Doing well here will give her great momentum going into US nationals.
Mone Chiba (Japan) - Had it not been for her fall in the stsq at the Cup of China she may have beaten Amber so the competition between these two is going to be close. She’s been looking solid all season and gets pretty consistently high GOE on her technical elements.
Wakaba Higuchi (Japan) - If she wants a spot on the podium she’s really going to have to make sure she’s getting her rotations all the way around. I’m so excited to her the final and I just hope she does her best.
Hana Yoshida (Japan) - She was last year’s bronze medalist, but she has yet to go over 200 points this Grand Prix series although she was very close at Finlandia Trophy. The 3A hasn’t been working out for her this season, so we’ll see if she will attempt it or play it safe with the 2A.
Rion Matsuike (Japan) - I love her so much, but she has yet to put down a solid short program, and I don’t think she’ll be able to make a comeback in the free with the level of talent that is present among these competitors. However, her skating skills are stunning and both of her programs are beautiful so I’m looking forward to seeing her performance.
Can’t believe it’s already the Grand Prix Final! It’s been an interesting 6 weeks with some twists and turns, but I think all the disciplines will be very interesting and fun to watch. I’m not gonna be able to watch anything live on Thursday but I’ll be able to watch everything on Friday and Saturday! Happy watching and I hope everyone has an excellent Grand Prix Final weekend!

I gotta say, skating a very lyrical and balletic program so shortly after deniss is not doing daniel any favours 😬 also, I’m guessing the training gear look of his costume is intentional but it’s just soooo casual

French Eurosport being like "they called all the jumps tofay for the ones they never did so far" (paraphrasing) gives me life. They're ALWAYS shading judges and the way they turn a blind eye to his bad technique and urs.
Adam istg you cannot miss in this SP. You just cannot give the guy room to come back on the free.

Well that didn't take long.
#skatetheonion#daniel grassl#yes that is a real hozier tweet#i like to imagine that Team Eteri tried to pull some three shrimp bullshit on Daniel and this was his response#or maybe he was an undercover agent collecting evidence of doping which will be dramatically revealed at Kamila's upcoming CAS trial#the real question is did he send flowers

2025 World Championships Preview
I can’t believe it’s time for Worlds! 🥺 I’m happy that we get to delay the post-season depression by a couple of weeks this season because World Team Trophy is in April! But first we must survive Worlds.
Men - My Predicted Podium
Ilia Malinin (USA) - I fear that he’s going to do the 7 quad program again. Really wish he would take some quads out because doing 7 makes for a very messy program but I’m sure the crowd will eat up whatever he does. The only way he’s not winning is if something goes terribly wrong. IDK what he’s thinking with this new AI chat bot thing lol.
Yuma Kagiyama (Japan) - Heard he’s lowering his jump difficulty a bit in order to secure the Olympic spots for Japan which is very admirable. I think it would be so cool if he wins. I want two squeaky clean programs from him pls.
Junhwan Cha (South Korea) - I think it’s gonna be really close between Jun and Mikhail for 3rd place but I think Jun will be able to sneak ahead with his PCS as long as he puts down all his technical content with no hiccups. If he makes it on the podium I will be so happy.
(Rest of top 10 in no particular order)
Adam Siao Him Fa (France) - It has not been his season so I’m just hoping that he can put down two solid programs. His landings were scary af at Europeans. I really want him to do well but I am nervous.
Daniel Grassl (Italy) - I don’t love the fact that he’s probably gonna be in the top 10. His score is really gonna be decided by how strict the callers are going to be. Can’t wait to hate watch the Billy Elliot free - it’s literally my least favorite program of the season.
Nikolai Memola (Italy) - Grand Prix season was rough but he was pretty solid at Europeans. If he is able to perform like he did at Europeans he’ll end up in the second half of the top 10 but that’ll be a a good finish for him.
Shun Sato (Japan) - I am really nervous about Shun. The last two competitions I saw him at were JNats and World University Games and he did not do well in either. It’s been a hot sec tho so who knows what’ll happen. I will root for the fuecoco trio no matter what.
Mikhail Saidorov (Kazakhstan) - I think Jun is going to have to work really hard if he wants to challenge Mikhail for 3rd place. If Mikhail performs like he did at Four Continents it’s gonna be hard to beat. Really looking forward to his performance!
Lukas Britschigi (Switzerland) - I am a little nervous about him because he is recovering from butt surgery. Unless things go wrong for top contenders I don’t see him making it into the top 6.
Andrew Torgashev (USA) - Pizza King has had such a good season! I hope he can finish it off with a solid performance at Worlds. The pressure will def be on him to help get those 3 spots because who knows what Jason is going to do.
Women - My Predicted Podium
Kaori Sakamoto (Japan) - I think Kaori is going to have to do better than the best she’s done this season if she’s going to get 1st but I believe in her. I love her so much and if she 4-peats I will never stop talking about it ever.
Chaeyeon Kim (South Korea) - Miss girl was unstoppable at Four Continents. She always looks as cool as a cucumber, so I am not worried about her nerves. I know she will go out and kill it, I just hope she gives a smidge more in the PCS department.
Amber Glenn (USA) - If she puts down two clean programs and with a 3A in each, miss girl is going to win. I am a little nervous about her nerves because I’m sure there’s a lot of pressure on her as a favorite going into a home Worlds. I just want her to do well!
(Rest of top 10 in no particular order)
Nina Pinzarrone (Belgium) - Worlds did not go the way she wanted last year so I’m hoping she can get some redemption this year. Europeans was the best I’ve seen her all season so I hope she can harness some positive momentum.
Lara Naki Gutmann (Italy) - Miss girl is going to have to do her best in order to squeak into the top 10 but I really hope she does it because I love her. I’m interested to see what is going to happen next season with Anna Pezzetta on the scene.
Mone Chiba (Japan) - I love her so much, but unless some things go wrong I don’t think she’s going to make it onto the podium which is so sad. Four Continents was really rough for her so I’m looking forward to seeing her in better shape!
Wakaba Higuchi (Japan) - I think she can end up in the top 6 if she nails everything (Looking at you 3Lz3T) . Really hope the judges give her the PCS she deserves.
Kimmy Repond (Switzerland) - Europeans was a little rough but my girl is a fighter and I just know she’s going to go down swinging. She’s looked very hungry and determined all season. I hope she can put down a program she is proud of.
Alysa Liu (USA) - Can’t wait to cry during her short program again. I don’t think she’s gonna get close to her US Nationals score (because all nationals scores are fake) but I do think she has the capability to cross the 200 pt mark which she hasn’t done internationally this season.
Isabeau Levito (USA) - IDK what to expect from her but I hope she does well because if she does bad she’ll look sad and then I’ll get sad. It’s been so long since we’ve seen her compete, so I’m really excited to watch her programs again.
I will see you all on the other side! Happy watching everyone! I am nervous but excited!!!!
