i was talking about this on twt not too long ago but the hsr fandom has had phainon for not even a full week and already we have managed to dumb him down to a cutesy excitable friendly baby puppy.

now i don't disagree with the dogboy label. however! he is not merely a puppy. he is a deeply neurotic herding dog. give him a "job" to do and keep his mind busy and he's fine. perfectly friendly and playful to a point, maybe a little standoffish or particular about certain things, but like he's fine. just don't let him see the yawning abyss of boredom and discontent writhing inside himself or he'll start getting anxious and once he's anxious he's going to start making up things he NEEDS to do based off an imaginary set of Phainon Rules that no one likes or agrees with. these new "jobs" he has given himself will range from mildly inconvenient to actually genuinely destructive. and also he will periodically attempt to gnaw off one of his own legs out of stress

like. *scratching head loudly* are we looking at the same guy...? phainon is not a bouncy, excitable, happy-go-lucky character. he's amicable and likes to keep the peace, he's generally polite, he seems to genuinely enjoy meeting new people, he likes to play around and joke, but like. he's a deeply troubled, restless man deflecting concern and his own indecision and anxieties with a smile. and personally i felt like his mind was somewhere else in over half the interactions we had with him

because like, he's an inner brooder. whatever disaster befell his home haunts him, weighs him down with every step he tries to take. the chrysos heirs haven't actually won all his loyalty and devotion; that still belongs to his home. so he's got a war of priorities going on in his head at all times. he understands he has a duty and obligation to go save the world or whatever, but... he doesn't... want to? he never asked to be a hero, and he deeply resents the world for forcing him onto this path. he is so, so dissatisfied and so, so close to up and running and vanishing from everyone's radar. this is why nikador felt the need to give him a personalized trial, and this is why i think he's going to fail and the coreflame will go unclaimed (unless mydei stops moping around all the time)

and this is REALLY interesting because aglaea repeatedly describes him as a perfect hero. she's insanely smart and sees through everyone's bullshit. so. she KNOWS he's discontented and restless and anxious and unsure, and for some reason - some piece of information about the many prophecies floating about amphoreus rn - that is what makes him The Perfect Hero. from her perspective anyway. the world apparently needs a hero that doesn't know if he wants to bother saving it. why?

we could be having some fascinating discussions and theories about the implications here and what phainon's role in the prophecy will actually end up being but i. i see we would rather puppy-ify the guy. and not examine him any further than that. ok, that's fine i guess

honestly i think it can go either way since we dont really have much (reliable) info on how he acted in his youth! though, there is the fact that he killed his dads family while underage. but thats also technically unreliable info so idk if you think agree with that [afaik most of fandom does... and the tom meta i read is specifically and explicitly said to be considered heretical by most of normal fandom..... so maybe i just sound insane rn........] but if we say he did kill them then that means he dared to not only do magic while underage, but also use an unforgivable, which he surely knows would get him jailtime if caught.

unless of course ☝️🤓 he was smart enough to figure out that it wouldnt be traced back to him. dumbledore pretty much says this is the case with morfin taking the fall, but he just kind of... tells harry that thats what happened, not that tom planned for it (cuz how could he, amirite, 99% of the wizarding world doesnt seem to know how the trace works either). but we know he wouldnt have done something so risky if he didnt know, so... [unless etc etc insert more headcanons here like it not actually being planned i guess]

SO if he did do it, then i would like to think that it was because he figured out how the trace works. i just reblogged this post which i think covers it very very well, but basically it posits that the trace is cast over all of britain rather than on an individual person. it detects when magic is done in an area, and the ministry just cross references that with their records of where muggleborns live, etc. so if somehow tom figures this out (if hes planning to kill his dad im sure he wouldve researched this. even disregarding the murder part i dont think its impossible for him to have heard about pureblood kids being able to use magic during summer without getting expelled, and then tried to figure it out so he could do the same) (SUCKS IN A BREATH)

SO. if he figured out how the trace works then im sure he could practice magic whenever he pleased as long as it was away from the orphanage. and if the orphans had to move somewhere else for shelter during the war and the ministry doesnt gaf because theyre idk dealing with grindelwald, the address change wouldnt be noted and he could just practice wherever they were staying. or if they did note the change in address he probably couldve just gone somewhere else i think hes capable enough. am i overpowering him OKAY im getting off topic trying to cover all bases but basically the point is he would be aware he can use magic while underage as long as hes not near the orphanage.

SO BACK TO WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT what were we talking about. right so he wouldnt actually need to rely on muggle methods that much... and the moment he turns 17 he can just use magic whenever. any muggle skills could fall into disuse. but like you said, this depends on how much you wanna weigh his arrogance vs pragmatism. i dont think itd be a big priority, im sure he can do pretty good wandless magic so theres never really a possibility he'll be magicless. he has everything he needs in him. but its definitely a fun idea and i do love fics that incorporate it!!! because it shows him as a cut above the purebloods who presumably wouldnt know those methods + calls back to his muggleborn-raised roots. god hes so[car runs over me]

imagining this very funny totally amusing bit where dust (despite having a lot of pockets) makes horror carry a lighter for him (only because he can't be bothered to remember to bring one on him all the time) and horror keeps it in his head

but horror's a dick so everytime dust wants to smoke and he needs a light horror's always like "whats the password :3" (he actually said the emoticon i was the quotation marks) and dust has to guess. because horror changes it every time. and its never something predictable. and then he either just totally gives up on that cig or he has to forcefully dig into horror's head to get the lighter because horror's being a PRICK

now dust is shoulder deep into horror's eyesocket while horror is clawing and screaming and killer's just standing there behind them watching this unfold with that fuckass smile on his face (he can't get this type of entertainment anywhere else)

I'm an advocate for Stainmight. I love them so much and have been trying to convince others just how much sense they make as a ship. Stain would absolutely do anything for Toshi. He'd reform himself and become the best version of himself if Toshi asked it of him.

i would like to maybe buckle down and do some commissions but i am quite unsure of how to price my work. i already have a job so comms will eat into my personal time and i dont particularly need the money since i already live in a hole in the ground and only eat dog food (but extra money to buy a proper race legal dogsled would be so cool) so i definitely dont want to undersell myself especially since i already have a surplus of requests. though at the same time i want to be sure im being fair to my clients, and if i could maybe drop one of my days at work to dedicate to commissions in the future that might not be half bad.

hey I just had a question, it seems like some people are convinced ww will have Vash's jacket in tristamp s2, is that just a popular headcanon or is it based on something?

TL;DR: Mostly just a popular headcanon! (At least, so far as I'm aware.)

The theory/headcanon comes from this concept art (grabbing this led me down a concept art rabbit hole and there's so much I haven't seen before, so I'll make a different post about that once I find HQ versions of them):

Which seems to be Wolfwood because *waves vaguely at the Punisher* you know. Staff have mentioned a few times now that they felt kinda bad because some of the concept art that they'd shown before airing was more from season two onwards (the "final phase") which led to everyone going hmmm... That could be Vash's jacket, couldn't it?

Given the themes of human connection and love (especially for Vash letting himself get really attached to ordinary folk for the first time in 150 years, as said by Nightow), and how devastating it would be to realize that Wolfwood of all people let himself mourn and miss Vash, that his life changed that much, well, I really like the theory. But it's just a theory! :D
