I recently watched Tombstone, so.

Ice whose grandparents own a ranch and when he was younger, he spent every summer there, no matter how much his dad didn't like it. And maybe he doesn't have as much time when he gets older, but he still knows his way around the place, knows how everything works and where he can help.

Maybe he even has a horse that's half his, that was born in the spring when he was ten and he spent the whole summer that year playing around with it and his granparents include updates on it in every letter they send when he's on duty.

It's practically a second home to him, even if he doesn't talk about it much, so when he brings up introducing Mav to his grandparents, Mav isn't quite sure what to expect.

It's certainly not Ice driving off the highway and on a dirtroad, nothing but fields for miles, then a fence with a herd of cows behind it that they follow all the way through a ranch gate.

It's certainly not an older man in a cowboy hat and a plaid shirt coming out of the barn that smiles wide when Ice gets out of the car, or Ice himself grinning more than Mav has probably ever seen him.

"Tommy!" The old man calls out, affection clear in his tone as he starts walking towards them. "And here I was thinkin' ya wouldn't make it this year!"

But perhaps the biggest surprise is the twang that comes out of Ice's mouth. "I wouldn't miss this for nothin', grandpa! Ain't no way!"

He (Mav) was a “I sleep like a body in a morgue and sometimes sleep with my eyes wide open and scare the shit out of Goose because he thinks I’m catatonic” boy, and he (Sli) was a “I talk in my sleep, staring Ice dead in the eyes and say shit like ‘I hear voices’ in the middle of the night” boy

Can I make it anymore obvious? (they begin dating and continue to scare the shit out of each other with their antics for the next few decades until the death do them apart)

i think we're underestimating how powerful ice is being the commander of the pacific fleet because mav would be facing literal death penalty for his actions during the first movie ALONE so everybody say thank you ice <3

At the beginning, they don't talk about what happened. They don't talk about how Bradley stomped over them, their life together and their family, or how he made sure to whip every inch of his presence from their home, like he was never there. They don't talk about him or about how Mav is picking progressively more dangerous missions or Ice is choosing to fix everyone's mistakes because it's easier, it's easier getting home late in the night and imagine that being the close door Bradley's sleeping or studying, than getting home in the afternoon to an empty home, that seems known just like every other house they were assigned over the years. It doesn't stop Ice from sitting near Mav, one night, too many months later, a leather book between his hands and a sad smile on his face. "Do you remember the first time we took him out for an ice cream?" and Ice can see Mav is trying to take the album away from him, trying to shush him, trying to to not listen to what he has to say. "He was five, and all he wanted to eat was cookie's cream, and we went around and around to find the only place around the base that had that taste."

"He- he ate so many spoons he fell asleep the second we arrived home" Mav smiles, between tears. "He was so small, half asleep against your chest, and he wasn't letting go of my shirt, not even when Carole tried to take him."
