He hates how worried the others seemed to be for him; Alaara, most of all. Mouth open, a myriad of excuses and refusals and insistences come to mind, but - he doesn't get much chance to speak them. The orb hungers towards the ring she proffers, of course. And he doesn't know if it will help much, with how little the latest sacrifices have given him, but… he reached out none the less.
"There's little point in cursing Mystra." he might not understand her words, but he knows that tone, and of course, well - hears the name in there. "This is my folly, Alaara, as you are well aware." his throat bobbed. "Perhaps there is more she could do, perhaps… there is not." he pressed the ring to his chest.
Of course, the hungry orb reached out. In it's desperation to chew the magic from the ring, every part of it is dissolved, tugged inside him. A few brief moments of respite. The glow dulls, leaving his pupil no longer sparkling. Vision not as strong as it had been, no, but… better than it was when the hunger is burning.
"I do not imagine casting on me would do anything of use, or worse, it might put you in danger. I… do not know how longer feeding it will work. Don't you worry, though; should I feel myself becoming dangerous, I will hurry from here, put as much distance between any living thing and myself as I possibly can -"
Alaara's gaze bored into the wizard. In no realm was Gale alright, in no realm was everything fine, and in no realm was his pulsating orb 'just a little tender'. He wasn't doing well and his orb was causing him a great deal of suffering by the look of things. That its taint had crept up into his eye was worrisome. Could he still see from the eye or was he going blind?
"Karshoj arnahk. Malsvir arcaniss urathear; Mystra." It was a curse of frustration toward the Goddess of the Weave. One of but thousands she had muttered under her breath or had thought since learning about the orb. She was an evil arcane deity for doing what she had.
Tumblr media
"No," she rumbled. "She cannot have you. I refuse her when you do not. She has taken more than her share in sacrifices."
She reached into her pocket, fishing for a magically-imbued ring (or anything else she could first prize) and came up with one she thought held the power of casting Light once a day. Useless, given they had scrolls for it, and doubly useless since more than one of them knew the incantation.
"Will this ring help? Would a pocketful of them help?" A pause. "Would casting magic directly upon you help to feed the orb's never-ending hunger?"

People seeing former playboy Bruce Wayne begin hanging around a young single dad clearly in poverty and giving him and job and his kids getting on the Wayne scholarship:
“You’re giving him a lot of financial power over you, aren’t you worried?”
Vlad, who made his first million at twenty five and has been stealing artifacts to fund several offshore accounts but can’t access the money without seeming suspicious and is using Bruce as a tool to his own gain, but is very theater kid coded:
“Oh you know how it is as a single father, I need to think of my kids. We’re just so grateful for Mister Wayne’s generosity.”

Sue's minimized involvement in Carrie (1976) is so sad because then you get people talking about the movie online and they refer to her as "the one girl who sent carrie to prom with her bf" and it's like NOOOO! That is the deuteragonist, and her name is SUSAN D SNELL. Her internality and her role in the book's narrative is so so important to highlighting and solidifying the novel's themes–and also she's just a really great character who is both highly relatable and also a cautionary tale against our own callous nature. I'm screaming, the '76 film did her and Amy Irving so fucking dirty. Justice for my girl.

I'm sorry but I'm going to talk more about survival.
Ace asks the Doctor why the Master tries to destroy people and the Doctor replies "malice".
Unsatisfied, Ace says "there must be more to it than that",
-and the Doctor amends his answer to "survival." The Master believes one day the Doctor will destroy him, and wishes to destroy the Doctor first. (The Doctor is evasive about whether the Master is right to fear him like this, saying "I suppose one day we might cancel each other out.")
Shortly after this, the Master makes a speech echoing the fascist ideas that the weak must be destroyed to allow the strong to survive that several of the human characters have been lured in by all episode.
There is so much to unpack there. We can talk about the uncomfortableness of Dhawan Master dressing up as a nazi and Simm Master joking about a 'master race' and enslaving Martha's family as a problem of new who not understanding what crosses the line from fantasy villainy into real-world horror that's hard to forgive, but survival is unambiguous:
The Master aligns himself with a facist worldview. And I think that's important, because that's what Rassilon and Tecteun do too. I think it matters that the Master's rebellion against the time lord high command eventually leads him right back to them. I think it's important that his desire to dominate drags him down into a belief in his right to dominate because that's what happens in real life. It is impossible to desire power over others neutrally. There is always a moment when you have to relinquish that desire for power or be changed by it. There is no third option.

I wish the 12th Doctor was blind until he regenerated. For a lot of reasons, but can you imagine in Twice Upon a Time where he gets his memories of Clara back, and he knows that she’s standing right in front of him. He can feel that she’s there. But he can never see her.
Imagine how bad that would hurt. Like, this man deserved a happy ending. But imagine the pain he would feel at knowing he’d never see her again after regaining his memories, even when she’s standing right there. But at the same time, he couldn’t be sad about it. Because he knows that she’s standing right there. And he finally remembers her face. And maybe the memory is enough.

dp x dc prompt #24(finally, an age i am not yet)
Danny starts a prank war with young justice.
They’re fast friends, and this normally wouldn’t be a problem for any of the younger heroes to mess with each other, but Phantom is… a bit extreme with the pranks.
It started simple, like moving furniture two inches to the left, even phasing it partially into the wall.
Now there’s a dozen rabid reanimated hotdogs running loose, robin’s cape is possessed, and miss martian can only speak the espiranto version of pig latin… nobody is sure how it got to this point.

Wait sorry movie Cole’s identity reveal? Will there be repercussions about that?
OHOHO you bet! Garmadon's generals didn't recognize him at all, but there is some shaky civilian phone camera footage of Ghost-possessed-Cole fighting them all off, and the Ninjago City Internet pretty much just explodes from there with all sorts of weird theories. And the movie ninja aren't even in Movie Ninjago while all this goes down!
Some more details vaguely in order:
Cole gets doxxed approximately three hours after the footage goes up. The news straight up says this minor's full legal name and everything—Lou is on the phone yelling at them for that for about an hour (he is going to sue and he is going to WIN)
Chen and the other cheerleaders all chilling together trying to process one of Garmadork's Garmalosers being a member of the Secret Ninja Force. They get so close to realizing that the rest of Lloyd's group is the SNF—one of the cheerleaders even suggests the idea before they all turn it down. They were SO CLOSE
The theory that the cheerleaders/other kids at school come up with? Cole's only friends with Lloyd's group because it's the perfect cover, and to spy on Garmadon through Lloyd. Yeah, that's right, the answer is right there in front of them but the hateboner for Lloyd is so strong that nobody can see the forest for the trees here. The theory goes up online and most of the city accepts it wholesale.
Well, most of the city. Koko and the other parents realize pretty quickly that if Cole is the Earth Ninja, then their kids fit perfectly as the others. And remember, all six of those kids are currently missing due to being stuck in showverse! Garmadon's volcano may not survive Lady IronDragon's wrath
Speaking of Garmadon! He was not expecting the ninja to be high school students! He is about to have the worst week of his life, starting with the news going on about how this high schooler is his son's friend (but his son is bald and has no teeth, he's pretty sure... does he need to call Koko? no wait she's already here—WAIT SHE'S ALREADY HERE????). Between no ninjnerds showing up to fight him when he invades the city again and Koko giving him hell until she realize he ALSO has no clue where Lloyd and the others are (and Wu fending off his attack), Garm is NOT having a good time.
Koko, in full Lady IronDragon regalia: WHERE IS OUR SON Garmadon, clutching his bowl of cereal:
Tumblr media
When Koko realizes Garm genuinely has no clue where their son is, she turns to Wu. And how does Wu explain that he a) trained his nephew and his nephew's friends in ninjitsu so that they could act as the city's heroes and b) they all disappeared into what might have been a portal and he's not entirely sure where they are? By playing his flute, of course. Koko punches him.
Between all of this there are still tons of theories about what the fuck Ghost was/is and why there was a glowing green ghostly guy hovering by and then jumping into m!Cole in that shaky civilian phone camera footage. And plenty more speculation as to how and why the Earth Ninja was suddenly able to tear chunks out of the pavement and make the earth shake a little. Yes it should be obvious but. Well. The internet's gonna internet.
And again, the movie ninja are not there when all of this is going down. Their parents are looking for them, Wu is looking for them, Koko tears up Garm's volcano and then joins Wu in tearing up all his research on portals looking for them—to seemingly no avail. The whole city being weird and invasive about Cole following the identity reveal doesn't help.
When the movie ninja finally do return we get this interaction:
M!Cole, head in his hands: my life is ruined S!Cole, patting his back: don't worry, it's not the end of the world! S!Cole: there's not enough nindroids or pythor for that
tl;dr cole got outed bc footage of him fighting off garm's generals while possessed was uploaded online and then picked up by the news, but bc the city hates lloyd garmadon so much pretty much everyone but the parents fail to realize who the other ninja are. bc it's funny

I saw Wicked yesterday and it was pretty cute, I’d have liked it more if I were normal about The Wizard of Oz, but I am not. So, it was cute.
I like the strange little poly thing they have goin on, tho it feels close enough to the ol love triangle trope that I was a little irritated, but it was fine
It was very well produced, and as far as modern major Hollywood movies go, it was very good
#wicked the movie#I was really skeptical at first when I heard it was like “a wizard of oz backstory’#but i thought#hey let’s keep an open mind#it’s a very popular musical and has been for a long time#so the musical numbers will probably be fire and that’s the most important part#tragically most of those songs were not my style#I like maybe 3 songs and thats a maybe cause it may have been 2#maybe I’d have enjoyed it more if it were marketed to me as a wizard of oz alternate universe#since so much of it is just#wrong#ik ik that kinda thing is just part of art#but like I said#I’m not normal about the wizard of oz#I was really hoping I’d love it#and I was willing to overlook a lot#but there’s only so much I can overlook#like how Oz in the movie basically is a wizard#he doesn’t master in illusions and magic tricks#he’s one of the best goddamn mechanics out there#some steampunk level skill#and the emerald city is ACTUALLY green#missing the point they were missing the point#that’s not all but that’s the main thing I will not be getting over#unless they completely obliterate the emerald city and have to rebuild#and the wizard gets a lobotomy#but I mean half the point of the wizard of oz is that its all a dream so#that’s fine alternate universe whatever you can add depth to characters that shouldn’t have it#as a means to use them as a vehicle to tell a story you want to tell through characters people recognize I get it#but the Oz part makes me so mad cause it would have fit into the theme perfectly and they changed it cause why???
