Mahmoud Abbas has called Hamas "sons of dogs" in a fiery speech in which he demanded the group release the hostages it is still holding, disarm, and hand over control of Gaza in order to end the war with Israel.

The president of the Palestinian Authority told a meeting in the occupied West Bank that Hamas had given Israel "excuses" to continue its attacks on Gaza, and told it to "release the hostages and be done with it".

The remarks were the strongest against the group that the president has delivered since the war began 18 months ago.

A Hamas official condemned what he called Abbas's "derogatory language" towards "a significant proportion... of his own people".

Last week, the group rejected an Israeli proposal for a new ceasefire in Gaza, which included a demand to disarm in return for a six-week pause in hostilities and the release of 10 of the 59 remaining hostages.

Hamas reiterated that it would hand over all of the hostages in exchange for an end to the war and a full Israeli withdrawal. It also ruled out giving up its weapons.

The PA, which is led by Abbas and dominated by his Fatah movement, has only governed parts of the West Bank since Hamas seized control of Gaza in 2007, a year after it won legislative elections.

The PA's leadership has regularly insisted it is ready to take over running post-war Gaza. But it has been criticised by Palestinians for not speaking out enough or taking effective action.

Abbas lashed out at Hamas in furious speech to a meeting of the Palestinian Central Council in Ramallah.

"Hamas has given the criminal occupation [Israel] excuses to commit its crimes in the Gaza Strip, the most prominent being the holding of hostages," he said.

"Sons of dogs, just release whoever you're holding and be done with it. Shut down their excuses and spare us."

The president also said Hamas must "hand over" responsibility for Gaza and its weapons to the PA, and transform into a political party.

A member of Hamas's political bureau, Bassem Naim, criticised Abbas's decision to "describe a significant and integral part of his own people using derogatory language", according to AFP news agency.

"Abbas repeatedly and suspiciously lays the blame for the crimes of the occupation and its ongoing aggression on our people," he added.

Hamas and the PA have been bitterly divided for decades, with their rift ensuring that no unified Palestinian leadership in both the West Bank and Gaza has been able to emerge.

Abbas, 89, is seen as an irrelevance by many Palestinians.

He has remained in power without election for many years, presiding over a PA that is seen by its critics as ineffective at best and corrupt at worst. Hamas has essentially accused it of collaborating with Israel.

In a separate development on Wednesday, Hamas's military wing released a video showing the Israel-Hungarian hostage Omri Miran, 48, in an underground tunnel.

"On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, when we say 'Never Again,' an Israeli citizen cries out for help from Hamas' tunnels. It is a moral failure for the State of Israel," his family said in a statement.

Israel started blocking all deliveries of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies to Gaza on 2 March and resumed its offensive two weeks later, saying that the pressure would force Hamas to release the remaining hostages.

Since then, at least 1,928 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

On Tuesday night, 10 people were killed in an Israeli air strike on a school in the north-eastern Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City that was being used as a shelter for displaced families, according to the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency.

A woman who was living at the school with her husband, children and grandchildren said they were asleep when the attack happened.

"We woke up to fire surrounding us from all sides. My daughters suffered burns on their hands and legs. One of the women with us was taken to the hospital, but we still don't know what her condition is," she told BBC Arabic's Gaza Lifeline programme. "Several young people were burned alive."

"This war has dragged on for nearly two years now. And what has it brought us? Just more death, more suffering," she added.

The Civil Defence said its first responders also recovered another four bodies from attacks on two homes in the same area.

The Israeli military said on Wednesday that it struck "a gathering of terrorists operating within a Hamas and [Palestinian] Islamic Jihad command and control centre" in the area of the school.

It accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields - an allegation that the group has repeatedly denied.

The UN meanwhile warned that the 52-day Israeli blockade had deprived Gaza's 2.1 million population of "the basic necessities for human survival". It has reported a rise in malnutrition and severe shortages of medicines at hospitals.

On Wednesday, the foreign ministers of the UK, France and Germany called on Israel to end the blockade, saying it was "intolerable".

"We urge Israel to immediately restart a rapid and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza in order to meet the needs of all civilians," said a joint statement.

They also described as "unacceptable" Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz's "recent comments politicising humanitarian aid and Israeli plans to remain in Gaza after the war", adding that Israel was bound under international law to allow aid deliveries.

The Israeli foreign ministry rejected the allegation that aid was being politicised.

It also insisted that the country was acting in full accordance with international law and that there was "no shortage of aid in Gaza" because 25,000 aid lorries had entered during the recent two-month ceasefire.

"Israel is fighting Hamas, which steals humanitarian aid, uses it to rebuild its war machine, and hides behind civilians," a statement said.

"Hamas started this war, and Hamas is responsible for its continuation and for the suffering of both Palestinians and Israelis. The war can end tomorrow if the hostages are released and Hamas lays down its weapons," it added.

The Israeli military launched a campaign to destroy Hamas in response to an unprecedented cross-border attack on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

More than 51,300 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the territory's health ministry.

This whole thing must be pretty weird and creepy for the characters right??? Like- we dont know for certain what EXACTLY is gonna happen, but we know for a fact that Wingdings finds out hes in a game, then kills himself so he can be closer with god-

I also experimented a tad with this in working with silence, so timing things at my own pace! It was really hard! I HAD SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!

But, time for my FAVORITE PART….ANALYSIS!!!

DISCLAIMER: some things stated as fact haven’t been said in the blog/arent canon to the au itself, just my animation/theories/interpretation, cause i’m silly and headcanoning :3

TITLE:

The proper title ive given this is “To You” which means 2 different and very vague things. What happened to you? and sending a message like “this is To You”.

In that case, “you” is whichever version of Papyrus/Wingdings/Gaster you want- Its not exactly clear which version of him means “you” which is kinda the point. The lines blur together sometimes…

But yeah, Gaster/crazy WD sends messages TOO himself so they’re “To You”

CONTEXT

Wingdings has JUST turned himself into Gaster. Ignore how impossible Sans interacting with him in this moment is, and just hear me out on the angst possibilities-

SCENE 1

As Sans approaches the mess- Gaster is encased in shadow, and looks at him. Expression not telling much- just looking blankly. Doesn’t even look like he’s alive… just… moving. Also the eye thats open, is just a slit. because- perspective. BUT I also had fun putting that there and going hehehehe it looks like WD/Papyrus’ eye

Sans approaches, and getting engulfed in the shadow, leaving the light.

His expression here was REALLY fun and REALLY hard to draw. Angry? maybe. stunned and terrified? DEFINITELY.

In this context (that doesn’t have a lot to go off of with the comics, YET) Sans knows that this was all very much intentional. He absolutely does not want to be angry, and is certainly only feeling it subconsciously.

But… he wanted so badly to understand, and enter his brother world. But now, Sans is just… Baffled. Hes like “what the fuck did you do???”

SCENE 2

Gaster continues to look blank. Looking up at Sans as he approaches, encasing him in even more shadow.

Sans’ hand reaches to Gasters face. From Sans’ perspective, his intentions are like checking for a pulse. Not literally ofc cause pulses arent on our face- but like, feeling for him. For a sign that something is there. (It’s also meant to be something motherly/comforting)

But then, Gaster leans into the touch, somewhat reciprocating this wordless “ive got you” gesture. That’s what makes Sans go from Terrified to just purely grief stricken. His brother is still alive. And he loves him.

But this form wont last for long…For universe fixing screw ups reasons :D 👍

SCENE 3

Gaster then opens his eyes, revealing hes even still got eye lights available for him. Thats what just SHATTERS the dam, and Sans embraces him suddenly.

SCENE(S) 4

Then, the “reset” happens, Gaster is gone, and Papyrus appears in place of Wingdings in his bed.

Nothing is boiling to add to a “frozen in terror” feeling!

Now- drawing all of the differences between the past and present rooms. DESTROYED ME. i HAD SO MUCH FUN BUT I ALSO CRIED 😭 There are no thank-you letters to santa, no racecar bed, no silly bone painting, no action figures, just BORING

I also wanted to keep everything monochromatic, so ofc we’ve got black and white for the void/Gaster, blue for Sans, red for Papyrus, and purple for Sans and Papyrus together.

The tape recorder and lab coat are still greyscale though cause Wingdings still has SOME of his stuff lying around. But the tapes are indecipherable, and Papyrus threw out that lab coat the first chance he got. It gave him the absolute worst feeling, worse than anything he’s ever experienced.

Something I also really enjoy is the fact that the dress shirts were still technically Wingdings’ but they’re red for Papyrus. The lab coat is the only real WINGDINGS thing that Papyrus wants absolutely no part in. Some things that were Wingdings’ are now Papyrus’ cause :D👍

in place of the bone painting are just family photos that I also have extra to say about. Someday I wanna make a comic of what happened to those/what I think would happen to em.

One day Papyrus is like “HEY UH- SANS! THESE PHOTOS! I DON’T LIKE LOOKING AT THEM! CAN WE NOT!?” Aka, he doesn’t remember these things happening/these photos being taken… BUT THEYRE PHOTOS OF HIM.

So he just feels really uncomfortable looking at memories he should reasonably remember, but doesn’t at all- and Sans gets that. But he keeps em in his drawer. Then! they hung up the bone thing in place of it cause SILLY!

But the family photos, I still had fun with. From left to right theyre a photo of Semi with the twins, the twins as baby bones, then as slightly older kids, then WDs graduation photo.

CONCLUSION!

This entire thing was so much fun, and I feel i’ve really grown as an artist over the process of experimenting and not being knocked down by annoying setbacks,

you've said that the world is mostly accessable from the ground, but are there any pllaces that you need to fly to get to?

you called Sun and Moon "robots", are they not robots? and are their wings any different to a regular human's?

does Moon help Sun with his wings when he's molting?

is Moon actually looking after his wings? i figured if they're broken they should be in a splint or something, but they're not. is he not caring for them anymore?

Anyhoo, thankies for asking about SOAF!!! As for "mostly", almost every store or home is accessible through the ground. Such as just a regular door. There are places with doors high up, but it's mostly just an ease of access thing. i.e. mailmen who fly around quicker than walking can drop off stuff up high like that. But since there are people with only one wings, too-small-of wings, etc... I imagine every place is at accessible in some way! They are! As close to a robot as they can be. Their origins are not having been built, but they work as mechanically as a robot as I'd write them any other day! Yes! Moon more than likely helps both Sun and y/n with their wings when they need it. It's as much as a kindness thing as it is a payback thing. Moon's feathers are currently very prone to falling out or being left around, so he sees it as a way to pay back for the mess he causes </3 Which leads me to say, yes and no? Not anymore. When they were first damaged, it was shocking and he did everything he could to try and return them to their original beauty. They(sun and moon) are still searching for a way to fix them up completely, but Moon has given up on wrapping them up, as his wings are seemingly not healable through any normal means. This causes him to just let them hang limp, since he nearly can't control/feel them anymore. Hence the way they sit in his reference picture

Ooh, that's a good possibility! They'll still be unnerving as hell but when they're encountered underwater (maybe they'll be EVEN BIGGER underwater because of less fighting gravity and bigger = easier to survive lol)

I'll definitely lean much more into their inhuman features when they're in their merforms - it's like the potions they take are not only so they can walk on land to attend NRC, but also to obscure features that may scare away potential clients. At least, until they have their prey trapped...

Floyd always smiles wider so he's often showing off sharper teeth and claws, as well as not hiding his gills quite as carefully as his friend and brother. Oh, maybe Azul has lil suckers on his hands along his fingers to lean into the fact that he has a super strong grip strength lol (I know he wears gloves in both his school and dorm uniform but it can be, like, ✨ secret lore ✨ or something lol)

I thought we had two characters who very much so ARE together in an unmistakably queer way, and not bound by strict human binaries or norms, including a word of God confirmation from Neil Gaiman himself...and that such two people might share a kiss is shocking why exactly? surely it's not because you don't think of queer relationships as real - or good enough - unless they are also sexual too? surely we have moved past this?????
