what is with 4x01 in the shows. alone house md. lazarus rising supernatural. welcome to korea part 1 mash. what did they put in the first episode of the fourth season of these shows

If I were to start watching mash with the episode you recommend in your header... What order do I go in from there? Like should I just ignore the first 3 seasons? What's the reasoning behind starting so far in? (I know almost nothing about this show)

Sickos hahaha yes. This is why my blog exists. So you watch s4-11 and then you go back and watch s1-3 as though they’re a prequel to what you just watched. The reasoning is:

1. I randomly started it at season 4 episode 1 because someone told me to and the point where this episode picks up IS exactly how you would write a first episode of a show. If I were to teach a class on how to write a pilot I would genuinely include 4x01 on the syllabus and would never in a million years include the actual pilot of mash. You get character notes/motivations, you get story, you get hints of tragic backstory (which are always explained so you won’t be confused). it was almost written so you could start it there without knowing anything else.

2. S 1-3 are mostly episodic without overarching plot (until near the end of s3) and you’ll just have more fun if you right away watch mash as though it’s going to tell you a cohesive gay narrative. You can accomplish this by starting on s4 and using your imagination

3. While there is still plenty of period typical problematic stuff s4 onward, there is a huge huge shift from s1-3 which have a very different tone when it comes to women in particular. If you go back and watch them after seeing how the series matures and becomes genuinely Good for its time…. it’s kind of fine but as an intro to the show? Really off putting

in the time travel plotline on lost when sawyer is like "why bother trying to leave the island now it's 1974 what are you going back to" WELL james. in august of 1975 bruce springsteen is going to drop born to run and three weeks later MASH 4x01 welcome to korea is going to air. so you tell me

my brain is mashed potatoes rn so try ur best to follow along but.

4x01 starting with forced conformity is what's killing the kids and mike is no longer wearing what his mommy bought him at the gap, suggesting that he is starting to come into his own more only for him to then go to lenora in a disguise with flowers that are a 70:30 yellow to purple mix and he knows he likes yellow, but now he's realizing it's too much yellow and right after that his voice wavers while saying hi to will and he can't hug him and he's being really weird (which we know means he likes someone, according to el's letter)

= mike knows that he likes will and it took seeing him in person after so long to realize that he likes him more than he initially thought and more than he knows what to do with now that he has to face that in the flesh without the safety of distance and radio silence (which is further confirmed by how hawkins isn't the same without him, him not talking to mike is what sabotaged the day, mike has never told el he loves her, mike's monologue is a direct response to his confession, mike wanted to tell the truth but didn't want to upset el, and how mike sticks by his side for the rest of s4 and not el's).

Can we just, for a moment, appreciate the bar tender at the officers club at Kimpo in Welcome to Korea. He so very clearly conveyed that he both did not believe for second Radar was a captain, and that he truly could not give less of a fuck
