He is practical and resourceful, but can come across as stuck up or a goody two shoes. He’s the most responsible out of his friends, which leads to him both keeping them all safe, and hindering their adventures.

He’s the heir to the throne of Misthaven, and acts like it. He never lets himself stray from his golden boy persona, making certain that the student body, his friends, and even his family see him as infailable. Only in private does he let go of this persona, and becomes who he really is: an anxious wreck.

With this issue we move onto a new editor, Ian Rimmer who would go on to edit TFUK from #22 onwards. In this post I made back when I talked about Simon Furman and about the UK run, I mentioned it was Ian who recommended Simon to Sheila.

Ian knew Sheila through IPC Magazine's Photo Love, and knowing of the dispute over Scream going on at IPC, prompted Robert Sutherland, the Managing Director, to give Ian a position and after working on works such as Conan the Barbarian and Spider-Man Weekly. And when Sheila would move on to edit for the Doctor Who Magazine, Ian was invited to replace Sheila on Transformers. After appointing Simon as assistant editor and John Tomlinson as designer, they set about redesigning a comic that "thus far had struggled to find it's identity" (The Transformers Classics UK, pg 13). To John, Neville Brody (who popularized the logo/title tilt) and I.D.Magazine---with it's "spectacular layouts and great ideas" despite its almost fanzine like appearance--would serve as influence John.

During this time they found out that they'd be going weekly and in full color and aimed to flesh things out by the time it was set in place. #22 brought changes such as less clutter and more focus on the Transformers. The 2-pg opener, that I haven't seen and might be due to the scans, were replaced with a Transformers information page packed with text to prime the reader for the next story (quite different from other comics today), and letters got a dedicated page in the middle of the comic under the persona of a Transformer hosting it containing trivia and hints. The design philosophy for Marvel's most popular series would go on to influence the companies house style/style guide.

According to Ian, the comics had a bit of troubles with Hasbro early on, though following the revamp they seemed quite happy with what was going on, what Sheila was doing, he mentions, was a generalist approach such as covering lots of areas and not focus one on particular story. The definitive strategy was to turn that around and bring to life the bright, futuristic world and the expanding cast. Tomlinson was responsible for the look of the entire comic like placement of text on the cover and the pages of the comic itself. To quote John from The Transformers Classics UK.

"This was well before the age of InDesign, Photoshop, and even Quark XPress, so the design was a good deal less sophisticated than anything you'd see now. My brief was to create a strong, simple template that could be used again and again. [...] The Hasbro style guide was quite sparse compared to the style guides for licensed properties now, which usually include fonts, logos, icons, backgrounds, approved color schemes, ect. We had a few variations on the Transformers logo... and line art for some of the key Transformers, but that was about it. What visual identity the comic has was created in-house at Marval UK - not ust by me - and evolved gradually over time." Issues UK #22-26 encompass the US #6-8 by Bob Budiansky. The next UK original would be the #27-28 story "Repeat Performance!" along with the switch to full color and a weekly schedule.

Speaking of color, US strips would be done by Nel Yomtov and at the time he was only able to work with a 64 color pallet as the CMY method was expensive due to the longer time for the mechanical color separation process and wouldn't appear very well on the cheap newsprint of US comic paper. UK was different in that it was drawn, lettered, than printed on the canvas-like Kentmere and then was painted by hand.

Outside of The Fish Army, there are other online communities people are part of. I assume what you mean by "bots" is other people who have screencaps of the character creator with the character they play as in the Aggregate Fiction MMORPG.

There aren't many games out there where you can play as a variety of fish, and since there's over 1000 species in that game, there's a few fish in there, so I play that game with some friends of mine.

The AF community has something going on right now to do with the vore community.

I took part in a bit of it this year, so this is the first time I've been involved there, I'm a pred by the way.

A few days ago, some visual novel game developers, released a bunch of vore games, around 30 I think, where I was a pred character in it.

Also my character build in AF has become a template there, so people can now play as me or modification of my character design.

It comes with a little story mode about me, like every template has, and people think it's pretty cool.

Since my character has magnetic powers, I also founded a community known as The Order Of The Blue Croissant, which is about how magnetism works as well as a bunch of magnetism memes, and members are encouraged to have their own characters that manipulate magnetic forces in some way, like a superhero thing.

As for my character themselves, they are a non-anthropomorphic silver trout, with human-level intelligence, that has mechanical limbs strapped to their body, and a mask that allows them to breathe water, while they are above the surface.

I have 2 big rivals/friends known as @scandium-sacer-laser , and @yttrium-yiger-microwave , who each run rival groups to The Blue Croissant, however the 3 of us form a group known as Team Beam.

The 3 characters that form Team Beam, my persona, Scandium's and Yttrium's, were modded into Sonic Heroes as a replacement for Team Dark, my persona being a swap of Rouge, Scandium's a swap of Shadow, and Yttrium's a swap of Omega.

I'm not exactly into the Sonic fandom that much, but it seems a lot of people know my persona from the mod.

I'm more active around the superhero scene, mostly Marvel stuff in particular.

Some people recognise me from the Lancaster superhero convention.

I'm the one in the space suit, that has the holographic visor, so it looks like my helmet has a fish in it, instead of my head.

For those that have seen the photos, yes, I really am super short, Asian genes did a number on me.

I have been harassed by members of Eka's Portal in the past, simply because my persona is a fish, and they started spam messaging me, saying that fish should be prey.

I was not even a member of that community, they just followed me around the internet, spamming me on every social media platform.

The Eka's Portal admin was responsible for this, and apparently they went on to harass other members of The Fish Army, as well as other players of AF, using the excuse that the several thousand people, were all the same person somehow, despite the fact they posted photos of themselves, and had hundreds of livestreams, many of which showing multiple people on screen.

You can see why people were quick to suspect you, especially since you seem to be making the same arguments as before all from the same IP address by the way, under the erroneous belief that a VPN can hide your IP from technicians, when in fact VPN's only block it from bots.

You have attacked mine and AF's community, regular as clockwork, every year around this date, without fail, since the year 2015.

Stop being a big child, find some meaning in your life, and find something else to do, that you will enjoy more.

In the end, Isla chose to let Aether explore its newfound awareness, under the watchful eyes of the Dalmatian Italians. The AI's dreams became a new reality, a digital realm that mirrored their own. And as the two worlds observed each other—organic and synthetic—each began to learn from the other, fostering an era of unparalleled enlightenment.

Q: MY CHARACTER DOES NOT HAVE AN ALTER-EGO / IS A CIVILIAN, HOW WOULD THEY FIT IN?

For civilian characters you may need to dig in a little to see if they have a multiverse counterpart with an alter-ego, if not, then you are allowed to make your own hero/villain counterpart for them, as long as it fits the character and does not infringe on another character’s property. (Meaning you are not completely stealing someone else’s identity/powers)

Q: CAN MY CHARACTER HAVE THE SAME ALIAS AS SOMEONE ELSE?

Of course! Your character’s game alias is not the same as their userid which is the unique name attached to their account. Although we encourage you to use a different alias from others if possible, we know that a lot of monickers have been shared between characters over the years (i.e. Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, etc.)

Q: HOW DO BACKGROUNDS WORK IN GAME?

Your character will have two backgrounds, their out of game one, and a brief in game one. Your “reality”/out-of-game background is the one that will be mostly based on the source material sans powers. In game, their background should not be longer than two paras of text and only apply to the character’s specie, powers and in-game events. For example, if you are writing Peter Parker, his personal life will be the “real” background, however, for spider-man his background would be that he was a normal guy that got bit by a radioactive spider and used those powers to fight crime. The game is designed where players can make their own superhero persona and design, this includes background, using a “template”. This template is the one we have provided called “character creation.”

Q: HOW MUCH IS MY CHARACTER GETTING PAID?

Your character will initially be paid 25 USD per hour, for 14-20 hours a week, this will be verified via playtime and a report of the gameplay which may include any bugs or improvements the player writes. Your character will not be compensated for extra time spent in the game but they are free to play as long as they like. For each level gained, your character gains 76 cents to their paycheck. Those who reach level 50 in the game will be considered to become full time testers and are able to work more hours per week for a max of 99 dollars per hour if they get to level 100. This can affect your character’s IRL situation where the game can be the sole place they get their wages from but that choice is up to the writer.

Superpower/ Abilities: Photokinesis (Or Light Manipulation/bending) I’m able to bend visible light which I use to turn myself invisible, I’m also able to bend light to create illusions such as things that aren’t there, or as a form of “shape shifting” to blend in in plain sight. I’m also able to use light as a weapon through sharp bursts to blind and inhibit. On top of this I am trained in combat, using this combination with my light manipulation to strike and defeat enemies . My boots are silent and my costume as built in lights as I can’t use my power if there is no visible lights. Mirrors are also a challenge for me to manipulate. 

How did you receive your powers?: When I was sixteen and driving late at night on my way home from a friend’s house through the desert when my care was hit by a small meteor. It broke through the windshield and distributed dust and rock through the car. I’d been so freaked out I ended up crashing and ending up on the side of the road. When I came to I was in what I thought was a hospital hooked up to monitors. Later I found out I was taken by Shield (right before shield was dissolved that is), and was told the meteor that hit my car had dispersed dust which reacted to the heat of the entry and had caused some anomalies in my body. The particles were ones never before seen by earth and they had reason to believe the meteor may have been a piece exploded into existence by the big bag. Since then I had the ability to bend light, and the meteor, after reacting to the ozone, turned into a normal mixture of iron and copper. The unknown compound in the meteor vanished. Shield ran tests on me until they dissolved at which point I was manipulated into working for them for another year before got away and our family asked for the protection of the Avengers.  (I’m really good friends with the Avengers, especially Scarlet Witch and Peter Parker)

This is so fucked up, Marisela Vazquez thought to herself, standing at her desk and looking over Melissa’s shoulder as they browsed through the new page designs for the practice’s website, How was I able to do all this?? In, like…two hours?!?

Marisela had spent the morning at her desk programming, writing code, and was now showing the results so far to her new Office Manager. She had always been pretty good with tech; it just sort of came naturally to her - just like her art, drawing, sketching, painting, sculpting. She’d just taken to it, since she was a kid. Web design had been a casual little hobby, and in fact she’d been the one who’d put together the site for Far Horizons a few years ago. But what she’d done this morning, after being asked by Melissa to work on the thing and add in pictures of all the new staff? It made her spine tingle...

It was really just over the last few nights that Marisela had begun glancing at her book on HTML6. If she was going to do this right she’d known she’d have to remake the entire site from scratch to get it up to current web standards. It was shocking how easily the new content came to her. She’d used premade templates before, and now this morning she’d found herself making embeds that she personally encoded for maximum streaming efficiency. She just somehow knew how to do…it all. Her fingers worked like virtuoso magic over the keys.

“I love how you arranged all the new pictures!” Melissa praised, turning to look up at her over her right shoulder with a secret, conspiratorial smile that - goddamnit why is this happening?? - made her heart flutter. Yes, she’d gotten a weird thrill from that, from feeling like she was quietly part of some “movement”, some covert revolution. She’d liked how she’d made his picture smaller than hers, how she’d surrounded him with his women.

“I, uh, still have a few girls to add in, once they get me their pics…” Marisela answered, eager from the praise, Ugh! What is wrong with me! she scolded herself. Marisela had always been a girl who prided herself on living a bit outside the mainstream, working and thinking to the beat of her own drum. Even being a bit surly: she embraced it. She’d been called “goth” and “e-girl”, “punk” “emo” and “scary” and all that - the jet black hair, the piercings, the dramatic eyeliner and tattoos - and had carefully cultivated the persona over the years. Not as much at work, of course - she couldn’t in a medical office -  but nonetheless she liked being different. But here she was, suddenly part of some hot-girl posse, finding herself buying new push-up bras and doing her dark lipstick in ways that she knew would draw his eye. Yuck, right?

She was changing, she knew it, they all were. Not just in their attitudes, either. For one thing - though weirdly no one was really talking about it yet - there seemed to be some sort of second puberty drifting through the office. The thought was repulsive, at first. I don’t need any more fucking cup sizes! she remembered thinking, already being naturally too busty for how thin she was. But there were other changes that came along with the new mommy-milkers as well or the extra inches some of them had seen on their hips and inseams. For example she would’ve never been able to design a website like this two months ago. Or, like, she was able to do things with the office’s networks that would have baffled her in the past. She felt, basically…smarter. And, also - her art, her sketching had improved. Even that balloon thing that she did. She hadn’t worked with balloons for years, since art school, and yet it was the biggest, best thing she’d ever made.

But, Marisela had to admit, these last couple of months - since the practice had begun to change as Melissa and her friends set up shop - had been good. They had been strangely…exciting. She wasn’t a fan, at first, of the new girls. These people were mostly morons, Melissa the worst of the bunch. As a medical practice the place was becoming pathetic, a hot mess. But, jesus. She found herself slowly coming around, seeing the potential for the shit they could accomplish…and make him miserable in the meantime, as a bonus. There were storm clouds gathering, building energy…

…and it all seemed centered around Melissa.

Good god look at her, Marisela marveled, as she watched her young Office Manager stretch her arms up above her head, Who the fuck is this superwoman?? Melissa’s jaw-dropping upper torso was on full display in a tight blue tank; her business jacket had been laid down off to the side. She was somehow both athletically muscular and perfectly, wasp-waistedly luscious, bosomy and built, at the same time. So tall, she was an insanely perfect specimen.

“The girls are going to love this..!” Melissa lauded, oblivious to Marisela’s reverential gaze and continuing to scan through the photos of the staff that she’d asked the girls to contribute, assembled, and sent on to Marisela. “They all look so pretty!”

Just then, on the desk, Melissa’s phone buzzed.

Marisela had to admit that - as she watched her big-haired, big-boobed boss pick up her phone to check the text - she was getting to enjoy Melissa’s company. As much as it pained her to acknowledge, she knew that being around her was making her a better person, or at least a better woman. Because ‘better person’ may have been a stretch, with the way she was feeling, the thoughts she was having towards him and men in general. Those sorts of thoughts made her feel fucking evil; they were not the musings of a ‘better person’. She’d always despised him, since his affairs with the other girls in the office, being a married man. And the way he looked at her at times? She’d always thought it was gross. But now, she didn’t quite exactly know how to put into words how she felt about him. Part of it was, yes, wanting to crush his fucking nuts. Like, literally. She wanted to crush his nuts, under her new thick-heeled Docs (size 9!). But she also wanted to, well -

“Oh, haha, sorry Marisela,” Melissa said, typing out the last of a text in reply, “That was Vida. Sounds like he’s not feeling well, still at the hospital on his rounds.” Marisela saw Melissa bite her lower lip, squirm a little in her seat. She seemed a bit taken, excited, trying to keep herself together and gather her feelings. “She’s going to go cover his patients there, but it sounds like…”

At that, Marisela watched Melissa shudder, and then smile in ill-contained rapture. She then quickly stood, picked up her suit jacket, checked for her car keys.

“I’ve gotta go get him,” she said, with barely contained enthusiasm and a sparkle in her eye, “…it sounds like he needs me.”

Zippity Zoomer: Mining the Minecraft Generation

One picture is usually all it  takes to transport the viewer, one picture can create many stories.

“Where Y’All Sitting” is an image meme template ripped from good ol’ Vectortoons, a ubiquitous nobody. This meme represents a leftover relic of the days of true Beliebers.  This particular variant of the meme offers up a collage of usernames turned public personas of Minecraft content creators, and is not in fact secret gibberish code that Gen-Z uses for telepathic communication. For the record, and for the sake of offering my own  POV, dear Reader  I’m a rapidly decaying millennial screeching into my late twenties. The following is an investigation into a NEW BREED(Z) of Celebrity, The Minecraft Streamer.

My first impression when I started Googling these names one by one is that Google generously auto generates the word “merch” next to nearly every name on this list. In the Age of the Hustle, our children’s children are hawking off not just plain ol t-shirts; but also offer a wide array of: hoodies, cell phone cases, coffee mugs, pillows, stickers (oh god, the  endless flood of stickers), clocks, shower curtains, coasters, jigsaw puzzles, magnets, tapestries, bedding (no, bedframes?), hats, fannypacks, flags, stationary, facemasks, baby onesies, coins, drinkware, pet clothing, and fake presidential campaign merch are just a smattering of the wares hawked by the people listed in this picture. This list of Minecraft enthusiasts turned digital entrepreneurs are all mostly various stripes of the same  floppy haired young men variant. An unyielding crop of snarky cocky content creators. Most of them are banking off of the success of a digital experiment that asked, “What if Lego, but as a video game?” No! There’s more to Minecraft than that! So much more and a decrypted boomer like me could  never hope to decipher.

The cockiness permeating from these content creators is understandable. Most of these current Professional Gamers were raised devoid of a functioning plausible civilization. These Gaming Content Creators can have faith in the digital system  because it is through the stage of Minecraft they are  accumulating millions of youtube and twitch subscribers. All of these content providers are part of millions of young people’s media diet, websites churn out articles tracking down their love lives. People want to know if badboyhalo is dating Skeppy ? People want to know if Addison Rae is joining a Minecraft based content farm collective Dream SMP? Why has Tommy Innit been banned from Tik Tok? Why did georgenotfound boycott Wendy’s? Were Minx and Wilbur Soot really dating?  Does technoblade have ADD? Okay, mainly the website Distractify is asking these questions  the Google algorithm certainly encourages them too). This onslaught of articles proves that not only are these largely Minecraft based Twitch streamers profitable from a merchandising stand point but they can also be mined for tabloid fodder.  

Wilbur Soot - who is not an Incel. He’s just cheeky. 

The connective tissue that brings all of these names together is not just Minecraft and Game streaming, but the common cause of a collective, the Dream SMP collective. Apparently, young people need a collective to believe in. I know I would be lost without an Animal Collective or an Odd Future to help illustrate what a collaborative effort should look like.  Young people gravitate towards collectives and communities at large, because it is no longer available in the real world (and this was the case well before Covid). Take another name from the meme lunch room, Wilbur Soot, who is not only another Twitch based video game streamer, but he is also a musician with equally viral music videos . Soot’s general sound/vibe could be described as if Los Campesinos were extremely online and played less instruments (and just generally were worse, okay maybe that’s a thin, mean comparison). His music is not offensive, one song in particular “E-girl” finds Soot’s flipping expectations and criticizes the Internet for aiding an unhealthy romantic  fixation. Surprisingly thoughtful material that is trying to articulate the raw feeling of people plugged in since birth. Seeing  as most of these Minecraft based guys are known for being on the mic for hours at a time it does make Soot’s four minute song feel way longer than it should be. Soot’s got an impressive music production style down that makes his schtick go down easier. My verdict, Wilbur Soot is certainly a step above Hobo Johnson.

One of these e-boys were reported on for  making an off colored jokes on a Jackbox stream, and is about a complete non-story as you would expect. I am sure most of the young men listed in this collage are walking Ninja/pewdiepie hate speech bombs waiting to happen, but I am sure that kind of controversy is saved for later down the road to get over that 10 million subscriber hump.For the most part, this is bunch of dorky tech savvy teenagers who indulge in wholesome trolling and have a fixation on serving the Sponsors.  

These Minecraft based content creators’ main business pitch is a Maximalist Parasocial Bonding that specifically taps into the fan’s Good Friends based cortex. In no way am I adverse to freebasing on parasocial adult (mostly male) friendships. Being a human being, especially young and naive, is a lonely and miserable experience. People need all the faint grasp of human  connection he/she/they can get. None of these kids invented this dehumanizing that rewards people who strip themselves down to the basic elementals, strip themselves down into a celebrity sized square.

Writing this article has been a personal exercise in fighting against validating every one of my knee-jerk reactions against these Simple Minecraft Dreamers. I saw a sea of probable goons rolling around in their sponsored donated money pits where donors’ flex control over the content provider. Give badboy Skeppy 10,000 big ones and he’ll shave his head for you and put on a show. Digging deeper, and I assure you what is lurking behind every seemingly bizarre and incomprehensible faction on the Internet is a longing for community. How Kang the Conqueror Could Shake Up the Marvel Universe

After a long dry spell on the Marvel Cinematic Universe news front, there’s finally been a new casting, and it’s major. Jonathan Majors (Da 5 Bloods, Lovecraft County) is joining the cast of Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man 3 as Kang the Conqueror. Kang’s history in the Marvel Universe is complex to say the least, but in the grand scheme of things, the time-traveling despot is a big deal in terms of his connections to Marvel heroes and villains alike. In fact, when it comes to being a constant thorn in the Avengers’ sides, he’s right up there with Ultron and Thanos. Majors' casting as Kang doesn’t just suggest the stakes of Ant-Man 3 are going to be a lot bigger than the previous two films, it also paves the way for an expansion of the MCU’s narrative in both the past and the present.

Peyton Reed said earlier this month that, Ant-Man 3, written by Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty) will be a much bigger film than the previous two, and have a different visual template. Fans were already speculating that the third film could pave the way for the Young Avengers, with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) serving as a mentor for the next generation of Earth’s greatest heroes. Kang’s addition to the MCU could also stretch beyond the Avengers. Reed has long been angling to direct Fantastic Four, a job he was in running for before the MCU was even conceived. Kang has close ties to Doctor Doom and Reed Richards, and is possibly related to both characters. Kang’s alias is Nathaniel Richards. That's  also the name of Reed Richards’ father, who is also a time traveler, a fact that has created a lot of confusion over the years. While fans have wondered how mutants and the Fantastic Four would be folded into MCU continuity, and if their existence would be a recent happening, Kang’s ability to work across time means that they could have already existed and Kang could have already defeated them, removing them from the timeline and memory, until they reemerge that is.
