The thing I'm waiting for is when we're living on multiple planets and the earthers can argue with martians (by which I mean humans who grew up on Mars) about who has the best mountains.
Cause obviously the Martians are gonna come out the gate with Olympus Mons. Tallest mountain in the whole solar system, baby!
But I think the terrans might have a point here that Everest/Sagarmāthā is a better mountain. It's an actual mountain, you have to CLIMB to get to the top. It's got vertical bits, like a mountain should have.
Olympus Mons may be huge, but you could summit it in a golf cart. It's just a gentle hill that doesn't stop going up. It's less a mountain you have to climb and more a road trip across France... Which it's the size of, admittedly.
Face it, marsboys. Y'all have the solar system's largest hillock. And as soon as you get that terraforming done, you'll have the biggest grassy knoll.

More old slang that's aged poorly. It makes me lol because my first read is "Wow that asteroid is making me feel...GAY!"
Which it could have, considering that this character entered a semi-homoerotic rivalry with Superboy shortly after.
Clark rebuffs his advances.
God I love Superboy's reaction faces. They're hilarious.
I'll talk about him later, but this character is Sutri, aka Marsboy.

hello i am a fan of z listers (mostly from superman stories). I mean I'm also a fan of a lot of popular characters but z listers are great
Like Kral of Titan - who only appears in one issue. Or Superman's best son Gregor Nagy - who only appears in one issue. Or Kathy Warren, Clark's genius "sister" - who has a very similar origin to the best version of Lena, pre-crisis lena, and only appears twice . Or Marsboy - Clark's first "rival" who only appears thrice. Or Gary the Witchboy - Clark's first friend ever - who only appears thrice. Or Clark's brothers, Cory (appears a bit more than 3 times), Kral, and Mighto (only appears once). Or Dr Metropolis. Or Pops from Captain Atom. Or batboy. Or Superlad. Or Linda lee danvers clone. Or Judy/Equila. Or Orana. Or Ar-Val. Or tlano.
or a bunch of the russian superheros that didn't actually show up much (the group in firestorm, the russian checkmate guy)
D-listers are also cool. I like blue devil (specifically his pre-magic only version...) and amethyst (specifically pre-giffen...)
Oh! And the Weird. His mini was great...
I think he might be closer to z than d though...
first:
SOYUZ MENTIONED!!!!!!!
next:
i love being a fan of c-z list characters. i love all these weird little guys who never show up more than once and who you have to explain whenever anyone asks you about them. i do think my definition of "popular character" is very skewed by how much i like them/see them talked about online though; there have been conversations where i'll call ralph dibny a b-lister and have to be very gently told that he really isn't. but there's something about those oddball one-off or two-off characters that i get very attached to. even the side characters in very mainstream and popular-at-the-time books don't get much love (doyle christie from wally's flash run, anyone?) much less, say, starbright from astro city, who has one appearance. maybe that doesn't count because it's a different earth though... either way, big fan of the characters literally no one else on the face of the planet is a fan of.

I like how all of Clark's various siblings actually have different powers - well except Mon (though he also has a different weakness)
Mighto is the most similar powers wise but he has some mental powers and was weak to music. It's also fine since he's the only evil one/stays evil
Kral has thermokinesis - complete control of his temperature meaning he has cold and heat powers. He's interesting in that he was going to betray superboy but the people of Earth's compassion changed him
Kathy Warren has super intelligence. Probably my favorite simply because of how many parallels she has with Lex's sister Lena Thorul (got powers from a space brain that they thought was a balloon while their brother was working in the lab trying to figure out how it works)
Cory Renwald is a government agent (he's the only normal one) that was a delinquent
Matrix has shape shifting and intangibility and invisibility
Kon has TTK
I think even Jor's sentient creations have different powers. But all of Jor's sentient creations are terrible. Robot Teacher, H'El, and Rogool all are terrible and are from terrible stories (especially that last robot teacher story; yeesh). If I were to make a new Jor sentient creation I'd probably make them terrible though - I feel like maybe Jor isn't that good at making sentient things
Marsboy isn't a sibling but he's interesting since he has the most appearances out of all the super people that parallel superboy (he has 3). He's basically Superboy except Copper & Ditanite replace lead & kryptonite
oh yeah! its fun that theyve all got their own things that set them apart instead of just the standard kryptonian powers. probably helps that most of them arent exactly kryptonian, but that also ties in with the whole "family doesnt have to be connected by blood" thing thats always nice to see with clark.

This is beneficial to persons who have a hearing impairment or who rely on their ears to keep aware of their surroundings. Bonephones, like ordinary headphones, are used to allow people to listen to audio quietly and while on the go. Unlike most basic headphones, they also feature a unique shape that lends themselves to physical activities. Bonephones also reduce the risk of hearing damage associated with listening to sounds at too high a volume through traditional headphones.

Doesn't the last image look a lot like Superboy and Marsboy are dancing? Maybe superhero fighting in the 1950s occasionally broke out in a dance-off. IDK. I haven't read many or...any 1950s comic books.

Today on my journey through comic book history, I read Superboy #14, from June of 1951. This issue is…slightly notable for featuring the first appearance of little-known hero named Sutri, AKA Marsboy. Sutri was a martian who was exposed to “supra-universal rays” from a passing comet when he was a young boy. The rays granted him super-human abilities comparable to Superboy; which prompted him to create his own super-hero identity, “Marsboy.” Marsboy is informed by the Visgor scientific unit that they had discovered that Martians originally inhabited the lost earth continent of Mu, and ad escaped it in a rocket ship when it became clear that Mu was doomed (…alright, sure); and that on earth was the one thing that could save Mars (although it gave zero details as to what was actually threatening Mars).
So Carmen Sandiego Marsboy heads to earth in order to steal the Sphynx. Superboy stops him and wacky super-powered hijinks ensue (because a legit 90% of Superboy stories are wacky super-powered hijinks. I kid you not), until the heroes of earth and Mars figured out that the formula (yea, apparently it was a formula. Again, zero details) was kept in a copper-lined case in the Sphix; one of the few differences between Superboy and Marsboy’s powers being that Marsboys can see through lead, but not copper. With Superboy reading the formula, Marsboy is able to return home to save Mars.
To the best of my knowledge, the character has only been seen a total of three times, and all of them pre-Crises but he can be found in DCUOnline; so who knows, maybe he’ll crop up again.
