Traditional vs. "Forged" families

You know how traditional families have an underlying set of assumptions about them? Like “blood is thicker than water”? Or “Families will always be there for each other, forever and forever.” While this may be well and good, it can lead to taking our families for granted. As in “Of course, my family will be there for me, to bail me out or support me or protect me.”  

What about the opposite? What if two people get married knowing that it’s a fake marriage? What if a child gets adopted knowing that she’s in a fake family? That it might not (and probably won’t) last forever? That it’s for decidedly non-traditional reasons, and one day, it’ll all evaporate?  

But because of that, they DON’T take each other for granted? They don’t wake up every day thinking this fragile family they created is always going to be there?  

And because of this, they sink themselves more into every moment they have together? Because they know the end might arrived sooner than they might think (or want)?  

It’s different when you marry someone with the promise of being together forever. Or when you accept a child into your life and take on the responsibility of caring for that child for as long as they need it. But it’s entirely different when, from the beginning, every member knows that their family is built on tenuous bonds that might shatter at any time.  

It really sheds a new light on the phrase: “You don’t marry for a lifetime. You choose each other every day.”  

I hope the Forgers continue to be the Forgers, and that every day, they wake up and choose each other.

a bunch of ryunosuke + van zeiks court shenanigans bc (besides the Frequent racist comments) they amuse me

love that ryunosuke picks up on this habit—although i know they both mean it sardonically

(also like the way van zeiks uses "my nipponese friend" definitely changes as the game goes on, but imo at the beginning at least it tends to surface when he's particularly frustrated/contemptuous of ryunosuke <- why are you paying attention to this)

it's so fucking funny to me that the reaper of the bailey, known to exclusively tackle the most powerful scum of society, reappears for the first time in 5 years only to take on three seemingly inconsequential trials in a row—all against an otherwise unknown young, foreign lawyer. if i were a member of the london public, i'd be losing my mind.

unfortunately I think Post-crisis Lana is the worst version of Lana; imo it's N52/Rebirth > Pre-crisis >>>>>> Post-crisis.

Like sure yeah in Pre-crisis she's basically pre-lois lois in superboy but I feel like even in her adult appearances she has more going on despite mainly being used for the Clark, Lois, Lana love triangle stuff. Bronze Age I think has more going for her as Lois had her own title and Lana and Clark were both working at WGBS

also yeah unfortunate that she just gets the electric power set but Superwoman was probably the second best superfam title during Rebirth

are there any precrisis comics where lana lang has an actual personality other than "pining after clark forever" (and im not rly interested in rebirth just giving her sharon vance's powers 💀) because for the love of god i am so tired of triangle era lana. man
