I would've been stoked to see the IDW Sonic characters included in a future Mario & Sonic Olympics video game if only because it would create some great scenes and interactions in the opening cutscene.

Mario, Sonic, Yoshi, and Tangle in a four-way Freestyle Ski Cross race. Whisper nailing all of her shots pretty much instantly in the Biathalon. Sonic and Surge going head to head in Speed Skating. Surge and Bowser nearly getting into a fight during a Hockey game. A Dream Snowboarding event themed after the Clean Sweepstakes racetracks. These are just some of the ideas I have for the opening cutscene, and I've got a handful of others for the game itself.

Am I reaching here? Yes. But we could've had it all!

If so, I apologize. If not, can I request the main theme from the 2010 game? The orchestral music in this series doesn't get enough respect, and I seriously think this composition could give any of the John Williams Olympic themes a run for their money,

Thank you for the request! Yes, we do cover the Olympic Games tracks here! They typically don't get requested, but always happy to cover less represented games.

This is a beautifully orchestrated track, with very round and lush sounds, perfectly balanced among all instruments. (I wonder if they got the same orchestra from Colors? Hard to say, even though this would have been in development at the same time, this was a Nintendo collaboration project.) I love the horn line at the beginning, as well as the tightly controlled trumpets in the very next section. They are playing very high in their range, but without blaring or sharp sounds. And of course, the string lines soar in the following melody section, joined by the winds and the brass preforming countermelodies. It really is beautiful!

There was a time in gaming when orchestral arrangements were all the rage--I would say from the mid 00s through the early 2010s. Games were steadily gaining popularity and notoriety, and had the budgets to hire a full orchestra for that "film score" style soundtrack. Sonic is no exception, as proven here!

Kicking off my first #SuperSonicTuesday showcase with some pics of my Sonic Snowboard from Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games!

  A handful of these were given out during UK sweepstakes in 2009, and one(?) was given out in the USA through an OCRemix contest.

Has a little wear and tear (and wax!) on it, since it was actually used for snowboarding - but props to SEGA for making it sturdy! No idea how it'll hold up on the city streets though...
