Marinette - Autistic - I think she’s autistic, hear me out, because of the fact i find myself relating to marinette in so many ways and I myself am neurodivergent. You totally don’t have to agree just my headcanon pls don’t disagree on my post cus this is my personal headcanon

-clumsiness

-hyper focusing on projects to the point i spend hours and lose my time

-being late (poor time management)

-hyper focusing on someone that i love (doesn’t have to be romantic)

-worrying constantly about the safety of my friends and family

-my feeling like i have to be in charge of everything and do everything and not let my friends/family help because i don’t want them to get hurt or do it in a way that’s not the exact way i planned it

-explaining things poorly to the point people do not understand (keep rambling until it is past the point of understanding and having to restart what I say entirely)

-people not following my way of thinking (don’t understand why i do things a certain way)

-coming up with complicated plans to avoid the simplest way possible because i think it’s not the right way or i’m too scared

-not understand why people don’t like my plans (they see it as too over the top or complicated or just plain don’t make sense which normally they don’t or they think they don’t)

-i don’t like taking breaks until i figure out the answer often burning out / like her I do this with projects and crafts mainly, or she does this with finding out the meaning of the miraculous while I would do this with my interests in finding things out about science or psychology

-pretend everything is fine but still wanting people to see i’m not fine but feeling guilty when i tell them i’m not fine

Thomas confirmed "Marinette's" diagnosis in the ADHD fandom just to keep the fadom from trashing his imaginary daughter

The proof are the words from the intro suggesting that "Marinette is a normal girl with a normal life", neurodivergent people are the opposite of "Normal", it is not without reason that many people with ASD and ADHD end up with low self-esteem (And they mask it, which unfortunately harms their condition mental)

Neurodivergent people see themselves as "Abnormal", especially if "Marinette" was supposed to be a scapegoat, such people withdraw from people and avoid them, so even Marinette shouldn't have friends (Luz Noceda only gained them in another world, and many of them 100% of them are neurodivergent people)

Such small things prove that Marinette was supposed to be able-bodied, and "ADHD behavior" was something that Thomas considered "Funny imperfections of the main character" and this context is worse, because if you mention that Chloe has symptoms of ASD, Thomas will probably not accept it and he will quarrel with you

Yes, Marinette points out that she was supposed to be able-bodied, but the fact that "ADHD" helped avoid many charges was Thomas using it

Chloe is closer to neurodiversity than Marinette, because with her it wasn't used as an excuse (And unfortunately, Thomas trashes her so much that many people from the fandom bought it) + She has almost no friends and does a lot of things that many are quite sus (Which is more fitting for a neurodivergent person than Marinette)

Seriously, as someone on the autism spectrum, I can spot things like this and it's disgusting that Thomas uses people with ADHD as characters who stalk and do a lot of things that sound like a crime story

Seriously, neurodivergent people? Have you stopped respecting each other and are happy with the worst representation because the creator said that this is what happens when the series suggests something different? You should have expectations, because the representation of disability is seriously terrible and without a fight it can get even worse, because you are rewarding the creator for not sanctioning you

Do you seriously want to be represented by a stalker and a person who builds a relationship on a fucking lie?

Honestly, Chloe wasn't a bad person, it was Thomas who was such a pain in the ass that he tried so hard to antagonize her (And it's sad that people bought it), this isn't Chloe from the first season or the second one, she's a caricature, which is something the creators do with little writing skills

Was Chloe good? Neither, she's best described as an anti-hero, but she's 100% not what Thomas did with her

So yes, Marinette's writing is fucked up, just like the fact that you want the guy who bans black people on Twitter (Because they pointed out the racism in his cartoon) to confirm something he has no fucking clue about

Marinette, neurodivergent? P2

gets angry and doesn’t understand other peoples reasons for being mean or doing what they did (i don’t really consider why they’re being mean i just get upset they are being mean even though they probably are just releasing their frustration onto me and are going through something)

-i’m not entirely sure if she masks (pun not intended) but she does act differently and more composed when she’s ladybug even though you know she’s freaking out inside and not acting as silly as normal (could also be because she is being serious and trying to focus which is what i do, i become more composed and calm when i am coming up with plans. also i’m not saying an autistic person can be labeled as “silly” when they aren’t masking but in this situation since i am comparing myself to her i see me and her act goofier and outgoing when we aren’t masking and more polite or composed when masking)

-organized lists and plans that have visual set ups (her plan in gigantitan with visual little characters as doing actions or in risk her using visuals to make a plan to save adrien and a list of adriens schedule so she can visually see where he is going to be)

-forgetfulness / losing train of thought / head in the clouds / daydreaming about real life things (such adrien and her married, i daydream a lot about having a partner)

-not being able to switch her task when she is focusing on her main task which leads to her neglecting others because she is so focused on completing it and only noticing their feelings when she is done (idk how well i said that but an example being watching a show and someone asking you to do smth like clean the dishes and the whole time you are doing the dishes your mind is set on finishing the episode and you become annoyed when someone asks you to do something or even says anything to you at all and maybe you don’t register what they say/ only have paying attanetion because you NEED to finish the TASK) which can make you seem like you don’t care what they have to say or how they feel even though you do it’s just your brain is set on the task you are preforming and maybe you only notice they’re feelings when your done with the task

-says things others find very rude (they thought it wasn’t nice to call out lila because to them it would just be weird to call out someone when no actual harm is being done when the way me and marinette would see it is they aren’t following the rules of being truthful so we want them to be brought to justice)

-another way to explain the last one is we saw adrien not saying anything about lila lying to the others but marinette is for some reason determined to show she is lying even though her lies are just to make her seem cool (at the beginning they become harmful later on) marinette sees it as wrong because she is not being truthful (i see general rules of kindness like truth, loyalty, or politeness as literal rules that shouldn’t be broken so i end up being like a rule police and if i saw lila breaking the truth rule i would want her to stop because rules can’t be broken in my mind)

i think marinette's neurodivergency is the kind of neurodivergency where everyone's like 'no, yeah, she totally has adhd.' but adrien has spent so much of his life masking that even he doesn't even realise that maybe there's something goin on in his noggin.

but YEARS after they start dating, when theyre like 18/19 and have first moved in together, marinette notices that adrien has a tendency to just... sporadically info dump. just very random chunks of information on things with absolutely no preamble nor explanation of context afterwards.

one night at like, 2am, marinette's just about to drift off to sleep when adrien's like, "are you awake?" thinking he had a nightmare she's like yes of course chaton what's on your mind? he's quiet for a moment before, in a single stream of speech, says "did you know in england they found this man called the cheddar man in cheddar cave? they made this 3d bust of him and it showed that he had dark skin and blue eyes. and apparently this was actually a super common thing because as a species we started off as dark skinned and white skin was actually a genetic mutation that just persisted in the north because we didn't need the UV protection from melanin. and since there were literally thousands of years before we actually got distinct ethnic phenotypes, does that mean in a thousand years the phenotypes will be even more different? what if people develop purple eyes? or blue skin, like avatars? like how do we know that won't happen? and if it did happen how would makeup brands know when to start introducing new foundation shades? at what point will the population have to grow for mac to release, like, a purple concealer line?"

marinette just looks at him and says "do you want to try my adderall tomorrow?"

Kagami is soooooo clearly autistic and i think most people agree on this so I think we sleep on the fact that Adrien is like the only person in the show (besides Félix ig, but you can apply this to him as well) who immediately got her. like Adrien and Kagami are on a wavelength. like everyone thought Kagami was awkward and weird and didn't understand her but Adrien just thought she was cool and nice. I'm almost positive that if a character commented to Adrien about Kagami being "weird" he literally wouldn't understand what they were referring to. Kagami commented all the time about how similar her and Adrien were and how that made them perfect for each other. Marinette, the other person who Adrien clearly super vibes with and gets along super well with, is also commonly agreed upon to be ADHD. The most Adrien thought of Marinette's extremely outlandish behavior around him was that it was "sweet and just her charm" (literally his words to Kagami in Protection). In general there's almost a trend in the show where the more openly neurodivergent a character is the more Adrien seems to vibe with them and is comfortable around them. Adrien is not neurotypical in this essay i will

These are my OT5 brainstorm pages. Elaborations on how I got to these below! I reference concept pages so if you see any pictures you don't recognize that's why. <3

First up is Cat Noir who I think is already perfect lmao. For my version though I wanted to lean closer to his PV design because I love it, like his larger triangle nose (you can't really see it at the angle in my drawing but it's there I swear!), the bigger bell, the more elaborate belt, etc.... so basically everything ... just in my style instead.

With my designs I think that whenever someone transforms into their miraculous persona it's based on what they think a hero looks like or what they think is cool. I think Adrien reads a lot of comic books and is a fan of characters like Batman (relatable for him LOL), Catwoman, and Nightwing, so his suit reflects that kind of vibe.

Extra: I decided that Ladybug and Cat Noir's masks go all the way up their foreheads because it looks nicer in my 2D style with their bangs haha.

Next up is the one and only Ladybug! Unpopular opinion but I actually like the all red suit! My hypothetical series would be a webcomic, and I feel like in action scenes the red differentiates her from Cat Noir esp at a distance, and more red style keeps their color ratios even.

I like the ladybug designs with a bunch of black sections they're very cute! Just not for my au. (I think it's just me but I find drawing the ladybug designs with inverted red dots to feel sacrilegious in a way,,, just my neurodivergent brain lol)

And I am a long ribbons truther, I love them and they can be very expressive. Also I knew I wanted Marinette to have a more vertical circular eye shape because her shape vibe is definitely a circle (Adrien's is triangle) and it reminded me of the eyes for the main girl in princess jellyfish (I've never seen it, love the style tho)

Her hair is a more bright blue to contrast her hair against her suit, and make her look more cartoonish. I imagine her idea of a superhero comes from kids shows and some magical girl anime. So her hair has a plastic shiny texture to it because when she thinks 'superhero' she thinks of kids toys. Also I just like color! The blue kinda gives comic spiderman vibes imo (the version with the light blue instead of the navy)

Queen Bee definitely changed the most throughout the design process. I really like her in-show design so I just tweaked it to be more my vibe. Adding a crown because she's a Queen.

Something that I've noticed is that Alya and Chloe actually share a lot of traits (There's even some old concept notes where I believe Alya and Chloe either switch names or roles at some point?? The miraculous concept info rabbit hole is real y'all) and I think this comes through in their final designs.

Like they both share a middle part, which bothers me for some reason, so I decided to give Chloe a little Ariana Grande side part into a ponytail.

I wanted each character to have a cool little piece on their costume, so I tried these little hip things to make her more commanding and girlboss, but currently her weapon is similar to ladybug's (but more like one of those hair ties w the little disco balls on them) and it would sit on her hip and would clash w her hip thingies, so I just decided to make her weapon the hip things instead, combining the two.

Something else that bothered me a lot was that Rena was the only one with white on her costume. Everyone has black but she's the only one with white... my brain says that this cannot be. So I tried to give Bee some fun white fuzzy bits but the texture just was too different...

And then I had the mega-brain idea to make her hair white to tie in the white from Rena. Her and Cat Noir both having blonde hair irked me as well LOL so this hit two birds with one stone. I wanted her hair to be sharper and more aggressively drill shaped because of her abrasive personality haha.

After that, is Carapace. I had an idea for him from the start because I felt like his in-show design just doesn't match his personality... I couldn't make his outfit all loose because I wanted to stick generally to the miraculous suit formula, but I feel like 'skin tight suit' just isn't his vibe. So he has a kind of hammer pants situation.

I think they capture Carapace's b-boy ninja turtle vibe while still looking like a miraculous outfit. Though I decided later that I wanted the pants to be a lighter color for contrast and the visor to be white (to tie in that Rena Rouge white).

Lastly is Miss Rena! Something that bothered me (back on the similarities to Chloe) was that they both have ponytails (yes I know I'm crazy). Even though they have very different textures I just wanted each of them to be distinct from each other. So I put her hair down and just dramatized her regular hairstyle.

Also her and Queen Bee both have black gloves to their upper arms, which, you guessed it, bothered me. So I shortened Rena's to just reach her elbow.

I wanted her to look like a magic-man, her illusion powers evoke a showmanship energy to me. I imagine her and Cat Noir are quite the dramatic theater kid-esque duo.

So, for drama I tried some flowy arm bits, which I think ended up just looking a little strange, so I'll pocket that idea for something else. Then, I tried to add her coattail from the show, but it ended up looking a little frumpy, not the drama I wanted.

I ended up making her coat more triangular in the front, to give off the vibe of a magician's vest, and changed it to solider red/orange double coattails, which I think makes her more magic-man-ish. And I think the white ends made it too busy.

So those are my hero designs! I'm still working out Hawkmoth and Mayura, esp Hawkmoth because I am not good at drawing masculine older men...

I take every single opportunity to project my sensory issues/neurodivergence on every character with perpetual headphones- Nino included.

Some headcanons about the main 5 and their persona changes under the cut!

Each protag has something that changes when they're in either one of their personas.

The main two's are obvious and fairly cloae to canon but the other three are a little bit different since they pertain a lot to this AU'S headcanons.

- Marinette's biggest is her confidence and decision making that doesnt always come through in her civilian form.

-Adrien's is his carefree attitude and agency that he doesn't have in his everyday life.

The more headcanony ones:

- Alya is always mediating between her older sister, parents, and little siblings. With her older sister and dad butting heads a lot, and the twins being the pranksters they are, Alya's patient and calm front to the situations helps keep everything under control. Constantly emotionally aware and trying to monitor everyone's moods, but doesn't abuse the influence she has in her family. D O E S however manipulate the FUCK out of her enemies when transformed. Makes the trickster part of her miraculous proud.

Also does gentle parent her teammates when there's a dispute. Only Carapace has noticed.

- Chloe in this AU is like Jane Austen's "Emma": constantly helping her dad keep things in order. Has been the one honestly running the hotel business since she was 10, at least in every aspect but on paper. She sees her dad and his bouts of depression, and tries her best to ease his workload at home at least. She's not perfect, but she's trying. As class president, she tries to please everyone and lead with a firm, but fair, hand. In comparison to the busy mayor's daughter who's tried her best to clean up her image and ebb her temper, Queen Bee is a harsh critic. Chloe feels her emotions much more freely when transformed, and is the most willing of her teammates to do the dirty work that needs to get done.

- Nino's grew up entertaining his brother while their mom would work late, taking on a more upbeat attitude longer than he would actually be comfortable with. This behavior moved into school too, where he got into habit of pushing his social battery past what it should while trying to make everyone comfortable. Doesn't mask as much with the class and his main friend group, and always puts his headphones on as a "do not disturb sign" that everyone in class respects. Carapace is the complete opposite. Since there's no need for a social buffer between the heroes and Carapace was the last to join and was welcomed warmly- Nino stays mute/speaking when necessary and has his gear help buffer his senses. Incredibly observant since he's not draining himself, and is the best defense and tank the team could ask for.
