Another beluga whale has died at Marineland, bringing the number of whales that have died at the Niagara Falls, Ont., tourist attraction to 15 over the past four years. The province’s Animal Welfare Services has been investigating Marineland since it took over animal cruelty enforcement in 2020. “The ministry is aware of the death of a beluga whale and a sea lion at Marineland,” Brent Ross, a spokesman with the Ministry of the Solicitor General, wrote in an email.

One of the minigames found in the MarineLand area of the JumpStart MMO was Trendy Tides, a fashion show which asked players to dress their Jumpeez within specific requirements. When it was first added to the game, it was called "Merllywood’s Next Top Model", which is most likely a play on the name of the TV show "America's Next Top Model".

Is there anything I can do to take action against the activists who are trying to stop Wikie and Keijo’s transfer? What can I do to make sure the whales go to a good facility like Loro Parque?

I wish I knew. :(

Awareness is all I can think of, if it's not too little, too late. I don't understand how the government can give all this power to an activist organization, it's like they "own" the whales now. For over a year, the park has been stuck at the whim of One Voice.

I'm trying to be hopeful that the government realizes its madness at the last moment, when the choice is basically Loro Parque or euthanasia, but I don't know what we can do.

Posting this publicly in case anyone knows better.

petition: Marineland Broke Animal Cruelty Laws. Its Leadership Must Be Held Accountable.

Marineland is an infamous park in Ontario, Canada, known for allowing its captive animals to suffer. For example, one killer whale there named Kiska has become known as "the world's loneliest orca" due to her severe isolation and obvious signs of psychological distress.

Now Ontario's government is holding the park accountable for breaking animal cruelty laws in its mistreatment of three black bears. Officials have detailed the ways in which Marineland allegedly abused its bears — including by depriving them of sufficient access to water, for months at a time.

A previous employee also shared that due to mistreatment at the park, staff became fearful that male bears would develop aggressive behaviors and kill cubs. Marineland's response was to fire her. After an Animal Welfare Services investigation found multiple violations of animal cruelty laws, it ordered the park to make changes. But still, apparently, "Marineland did nothing."

Experts say it's very likely the park will be shut down soon, meaning the animals will be re-homed somewhere reputable. This is great news for all animals trapped in the nightmare that is Marineland. 

But the people who ran this facility and allowed animals to experience extreme suffering must also be held accountable for the cruelty perpetrated on their watch. Sign the petition now!

Maybe it's just because I'm american and haven't heard of it before but Marineland sounds like such a fake place that was invented specifically to be in this story. Like as a commentary on corrupt zoos and zoo-type-places. Like yeah of course MARINELAND has a mass whale grave you named it MARINELAND

The JumpStart MMO featured a character named Katrina Catfish (Kat for short), a cat-mermaid who resided in MarineLand. One of the tasks she would give to the player was to take a photo of a statue depicting her great-grandmother, who oddly seems to be a human mermaid rather than a cat mermaid.
