"Henry’s still looking up at the statue, but Alex can’t stop looking at him and the sly smile on his face, lost in his own thoughts. “And James’s son, Charles I, is the reason we have dear Samson. (...) One of the most beautiful pieces we own, and we didn’t even steal it. We only needed Villiers and his trolloping ways with the queer monarchs. To me, if there were a registry of national gay landmarks in Britain, Samson would be on it.” Henry’s beaming like a proud parent, like Samson is his, and Alex is hit with a wave of pride in kind." — Red, White & Royal Blue, Chapter 10

A Chat among Bats (ML x DC)
Ladybug and Chat Noir manage to defeat Hawkmoth, unmasking him as Gabriel Agreste in the process.
Adrien does not react well to the realization that his father was the villain they’d been fighting all along. He’s Chat Noir, one of the heroes, he should have noticed. And the public suspicion on his civilian identity due to the familial connection does nothing to help that guilt
So he runs. No identity reveals with Ladybug (he doesn’t feel like he deserves one), no formal public goodbyes in his hero identity. Just… grabs a ticket and vanishes. Maybe leaves some notes at most. He had no idea where he’s going, but surely anywhere could be better than Paris.
He lives off of his savings and money from odd jobs as he wanders (and perhaps the occasional theft from criminals or the corrupt), eventually meandering path into the crime-ridden city of Gotham. There, his heroic instincts (plus the fact he still has the Black Cat Miraculous) lead to him taking up a new heroic identity, joining the ranks of the city’s vigilantes. And probably also causing Selina to fight Bruce over who gets to adopt him.
Marinette, unsurprisingly, took his vanishing poorly. She didn’t immediately know his secret identity, so from her perspective two of her favorite people just vanished at the same time. Learning that they are actually the same person maybe helps a little in that regard, but it also reinforces her thoughts that she failed him.
So of course she continues to look for him. She knows he probably wouldn’t want to return to the spotlight, but she still wants to help him out if she can. Or at least apologize for her (perceived) failure.
And thus, when she happened to recognize a certain individual in a news report from Gotham, she immediately booked the first flight she could. She needed to see him again.

While I'm on my disruptive Tolkien opinions kick:
Yes, obviously, he was a conservative Catholic and this was really important to his understanding of the world and pervades his work and so on and so forth.
But I'm a bit "..." about reducing everything he thought and felt about the world to that. Like, yeah, there's a tradition of conservative pastoralism that meant the context of his environmental opinions was not inherently progressive in the way it can mistakenly seem in 2024. Do I think he was Like That about trees because of conservative pastoralism, or his Catholicism, or that the particular form taken by his TREES TREES TREES #OLDMANWILLOWDIDNOTHINGWRONG TREEEEEEEEES ethos much resembles most of his contemporaries' feelings?
Not really.
I mean, he would never have said it, but I kind of doubt whether his very sincere and deeply felt veneration of the actual figures of his religion was truly comparable to how he felt about things like That One Oak on the Corner That I Liked Got Chopped Down by Evildoers. I've read other conservative British writers of this era who have their own forms of pastoralism and most of them are way less intense about it. I truly don't think Tolkien loved trees the way he did Because Catholicism or whatnot. I genuinely think he just really loved trees.
Basically, I can imagine some alternate universe in which alternate Tolkien ends up with really different beliefs about religion, about politics, about all sorts of things. But I can absolutely not imagine a universe in which any version of Tolkien did not take the part of trees against all their enemies.

Am i the only one who really dislikes the talon grayson shit? I genuinely don’t think the court of owls is very interesting in general, but their relationship to dick and hally circus specifically really rubs me the wrong way. It’s like writers took a story about normal, well intentioned people (that in some versions have mary and john being poc, which only furthers the racist stereotype that romani folks are “sketchy”) who were struck by tragedy, and made it into a whole ass conspiracy theory that ruins the point of multiple minor characters who already didn’t get much attention from the comics, but especially, it ruins the point of nightwing and his origin.
Do we really need another character who was raised to be a super secret and important weapon that is tied to random stuff across the whole universe? Don’t we already have two of those? Don’t you think it’s better when batman characters are just normal people??
Just. what was even the point of that??

a lot of people hate the hazel mist magic stuff and I won't deny that it was developed and implemented very weirdly but I actually really appreciate that it's partially connected to marie levesque who mind you summoned the lord of death/riches through her own powers. he didn't just meet her on the street and fall in love like other mortals parents she summoned a big three god to come directly to her (and then he fell for her afterwards). thusly it wasn't some late game add-on it was established very early in hoo that marie already had mystical powers of some kind based on new orleans gris-gris traditions and exploring that for hazel is pretty cool actually and makes sense! 👍
(also something something about frazel parallels where they both have special gifts that stem from their chinese/african heritage and not their godly fathers 😌)
for me the thing about it that sucks isn't that it's inherently bad or op as a lot of people seem to think (look me in the eyes and tell me that hazel is written on the page as more op than the likes of percy. rick limits her powers so much still even tho imo big three kids have a right to be op) it's that hazel's magic appears primarily tied to hecate and greek/roman mist magic instead of louisiana-haitian vodou influences (haitian vodou/louisiana voodoo are actual religions that have some key distinctions from each other, I'm just saying that rick could have drawn from either/both of them more when establishing hazel's powers). hecate mentioned marie explicitly when explaining why hazel has potential with magic but it's still pretty much all about nebulous greek/roman magic instead of new orleans-specific magic. let hazel levesque practice voodoo and cast hexes and work with spirits she deserves it (she is already a daughter of pluto so the connection to spirits should be there!!!)

... [Marie Antoinette] was so frequently stopped short and teased with this word etiquette, that when the members of the French Academy came to compliment her on her marriage with the dauphin, she received them with great politeness, and told them she was extremely fond of the French language; that she would endeavour to understand it perfectly, and to speak it with elegance... But she heartily wished the members of that learned and respectable body, the French Academy, would all agree to expunge one word out of the language, which he never could understand, and which gave her a great deal of pain. The president begged to know what that offensive word was. "Sir," replied the princess," it is etiquette; etiquette; etiquette; etiquette." The gentlemen of the Academy bowed and retired.

marie is literally the only character who was able to see all three male protagonists (walt, jesse, jimmy) for what they truly were. there's a reason they brought her back for the better call saul finale: marie is the only character with the clarity of vision to accurately judge jimmy and assess his character. she saw the goodness in jesse and offered him a taste of humanity and liberation, she saw the all-consuming ego in walt and said that iconic line ("why dont u just kill yourself?") because marie knew what would happen if walt was allowed to keep going, she knew that it was either going to be him or one of them. and she saw the almost-remorse in jimmy, the regret that wasn't quite regret, the capacity for change that was untouched but not inaccessible. the loss, the insecurity, the obsessiveness. marie knew what jimmy was and what he needed in spite of her grief and frustration. these three characters met fates almost identical to what marie wanted for them because she understood who they were and what their actions had earned them
