Right off the bat, I am picking up on a young, wild and free and really flirty energy here. You might be in a talking stage with someone. There might be a lot of banter between you guys. “I’m just happy you’re in your element in terms of fashion, maybe something could be made of that. It was like an overnight fame and seeing how you interact with people, it was like you were made for this.” Rea spoke, her words sinking in.

“I just…I like him and what he does. I’ve been moving fast as fuck and it’s scarier than I could’ve imagined but him and his friends are there for me, for now. If this shit doesn’t work out, I’ve got things saved up.” Nadia admitted, feeling a prickle of tears in her eye but she didn’t think she’d be emotional over this.

“And get this. I still haven’t met the rest of his family. Though I’ll admit, Ma and his stepmom Linda are like two peas in a pod.” She spoke, biting into a pizza slice to avoid the tears.

After a beat of silence, Rea’s stank face made an appearance. “No, they’re not. I might’ve been with her for a day or two but I’ve heard how she speaks about Linda with uncle James.” Rea said.

“Rea, what are you saying? You should’ve seen them at the signing of the papers, oddly close and reminding me of how close I was to them while I was growing up. I don’t remember shit.” Nadia chuckled at the thought.

“Bye guys! See you soon and I’ll text you lot the deets.” Nadia said her goodbyes with individual hugs before being walked out of the house by Nella, accompanying her to her car.

Unlocking the car to place her phone inside, she leaned against it along with Nella. “Rea’s here?” She asked, followed up with Nadia nodding.

“Her mom relapsed once again and doesn’t want help this time so my mom suggested she lives this side but I took her in. Be her legal guardian and all that, have to get that sorted out.” Nadia informed, kicking the pebbles on the driveway to avoid looking at Nella.

“It’s gonna be a lot but I don’t mind. That’s basically my baby, you know this. It’s gonna be a journey but it’s gonna be fun.” She continued, managing to smile. Her friend didn’t even need to say a word, embracing Nadia in a hug.

“That’s basically the group’s child, we raised that little girl,” Nella smiled. Reminiscing on memories of Rea visiting the UK and being around the group most of the time because Thembi, Nadia’s mom, barely had any time for the both of them. Even back home in South Africa, it was always Nadia caring for Rea.

Rubbing her back a little, the two separated from the hug. “Also, Harrods?” Nella questioned, side eying Nadia. “Just wanna get her a little gift, that’s all. Oh and by the way, the lunch at my place will probably be next week before I have to go to Canada with him.” Nadia informed, opening the car door and hopping in without closing the door.

“Okay, Miss universe!” Nella cheered, making her friend laugh. “It’s Mrs universe.” Nadia pouted her lips in a kissing motion before laughing once again.

“Okay, let me go pick up my teenager and her gift, love you!” Nadia reversed out of the driveway as she waved frantically to her friend.

Deciding that the kitchen had the best lighting rather than the studies in her home, pile of paperwork sat there, waiting to be given attention to.

Nadia wasn’t sure what to give attention to. Rea was working on her homework in her room whilst all the Year 11 assignments stared at her, waiting to be marked. She kept thinking back to that night in Monaco and how easy it was to gravitate towards him, clearly the sexual tension was charged to make them cling together so quickly.

With Lewis, she had no idea how to handle her feelings for him. Usually, she’d know how she felt about someone and would kindly reject him but with him, it’s all different. Nadia knows that Lewis likes her and vice versa so what is stopping the two from being together?

Her head was slumped against her arms, the position was rather uncomfortable but she was too tired to care. “Let me call up this man and see what he’s up to.” She mumbled to herself but as if he heard her, the phone started ringing with Lewis’ name flashing on the screen.

“Hey pookie. How’s it going in Spain?” Nadia spoke but you could tell in her voice that she was tired.

“Hi princess.” He smiled and she had to look away from the camera to blush at his words. “Boy, don’t do that. You are all the way in Spain.” Nadia joked, watching him roll his eyes.

“Don’t remind me.” He groaned. “Uh, Spain is good, it’s looking promising for tomorrow.” He verbalised, shifting his position to sit against the headboard of his hotel room bed.

“That’s fun. Try get a podium for me, please and thank you.” She smiled and he swore he felt his heart beating faster than normal.

“How’d your day go, Nads? Saw you went to Harrods and bought one thing.” Lewis pointed out as her eyes widened. “Oh shit, I meant to use the one Tia gave me.” She stressed.

“Nadia, there is a reason why I linked my card. I want you to have fun with it, buy whatever you want.” He insisted. “If you’re serious, I will literally buy something super expensive.” She didn’t eat to believe him but the charming smile of his said it all.

“Go for it.” Lewis smirked and she had a rather physical reaction to it. “Mhm, anyways, this is how my day went.”

He listened to her ramble about her day, slipping in several jokes and her excitement for seeing her friends. Telling him the plans she’d conjured up for the lunch with her friends to how Rea’s first day went.

Lewis could listen to Nadia talk forever. She explained everything with her hands and her expressions never failed to make the conversation even more interesting. Her voice sounded like she was on a cloud and the little snort she let out at his jokes made his heart flutter.

He repsonded to almost everything she shared, making sure that she can see he was listening. “Lew? Are you there? Nadia smiled a bit nervously, watching the man on the screen.

“I’m here, just miss you, that’s all.” He confessed. Her eyes softened at his answer. “I miss you too, pookie bear.”

They continued to admire each other, none uttering a word after the confessions. After a good five minutes, that had both let go of the stares. “I’ll see you next week, and get a podium for me!”

December 3rd, 2031 – Sixty degrees, clear skies, and a nice southeasterly breeze. It was a beautiful day to lay siege to Dallas. It was a good thing the weather was nice, because everything else about the operation looked rough. Marian couldn’t wait.

Dallas was a classic Texan fortress-city, two rings of forty foot tall concrete walls with a killing field in between, bristling with anti-aircraft cannon. The ground-facing defenses were a little less thorough, but a few machine guns would make quick work of any infantry charge and Dallas had more than a few machine guns.

“We aren’t being paid enough,” Suzy griped. She was crouching in the shade, alternatingly blowing a bubble of gum and taking swigs out of a bottle whose contents were hidden by a paper bag.

“We’re mercenaries. Get used to it.” Marian hoisted her gun onto her shoulder. “Besides, they don’t exactly expect us to succeed.”

“Oh, are we leading a suicide charge? I wasn’t paying attention to the Duke.” Suzy was never paying attention, but the benefits of having her around outweighed the drawbacks. Most days, at least.

“Pretty much.”

“Did the guys we’re with know this was a suicide charge?”

Marion looked around at the Jeep the Duke of Austin had hastily assigned the duo to. The soldiers suddenly all looked a bit green around the gills. “I’m guessing not. Chin up, boys! Auntie Marian won’t let any harm come to you.”

One of the men, a lieutenant, managed to find his voice. “Why are we here?”

“The Duke hopes that we’ll die loud enough that Dallas won’t notice his bombers taking out the emplaced guns. Doesn’t strike me as very sound tactics, but hey, he’s got manpower to make up for what he lacks in brains.”

Silence in the back of the Jeep.

Marian continued, mostly to fuck with them. “And don’t think the tanks’ll be any help. See those big fancy guns up on the wall? Those are lonestar guns. You boys seen lonestar guns?”

“Yeah.”

“So you get the idea. But hey, cheer up! It’s not every day you get to storm the best-defended city in the state!”

The man slowly came to a revelation a long time coming. “You’re insane,” he said.

“Insane was my father’s name. Please, call me Marian Typhoon.”

Suzy cackled. “That was terrible.”

The soldiers looked between the two women, now realizing they were both mad. “How are you two so calm?”

Marian didn’t answer for a moment, looking out at the slowly-approaching walls of Dallas. The lonestar guns’ targeting algorithms would start flagging the vehicles soon. “Suzy, how far out are we?”

“About a mile and a half.” Suzy busied herself checking over her rifle.

“Now, boys, I’m gonna explain two concepts very quickly, so you’d best pay attention. The KL-90 fully automatic sniper rifle, sometimes called “Le Papillon,” was something of a failure, because for some reason those glorious Frenchmen decided to make it fire 1200 rounds per minute, giving it a tendency to dump the entire mag into one poor fucker. Only six were ever made, and nowadays they’re just museum pieces. In 2026, the American military plunged into the deep end of bioweaponry and concocted a little something known as the ‘vampire virus,’ which proved pretty damn lethal in 99.99% of cases. The 0.01% that survived were problematic enough that the program shut down, and all information about it was expunged from the record.”

Marion patted Suzy affectionately on the head. “Now you might be wondering how those two disparate pieces of information might happen to overlap, and if you boys just sit pretty for a moment I reckon you’ll be able to connect the dots. Suzy?”

The last surviving vampire, Suzy Nines, slotted the magazine into her KL-90 fully automatic sniper rifle, and squinted out at the Dallas walls. She squeezed the trigger, the barrel swinging into a wild blur of motion as the sound of gunfire filled the air. “Machine gunners down. Reloading.”

Marian patted the hapless lieutenant on the shoulder. “Come along, boys. Auntie Marian’s got a city to take.”

nerves of steel. stable, patient, mild-tempered, agreeable. self-sacrificing, especially when it comes to the team. willing to give in and surrender for the group's sake. holds back and restrains himself a lot. grounded and down to earth. gives the team this significant and essential foundation of focus and practicality. he seems well-rounded artistically too, like the member who has the basic skills down to a tee.

not easy to satisfy. immensely high standards, good luck trying to have him be happy and content with.. anything, basically. i keep seeing him nagging and possibly micromanaging about minor things. also, can have his immature ways once he's in a negative headspace. more outspoken. will tell you things the way they are. more sensitive than what meets the eye. heeseung seems like the type to let out his inner negativity on others at times, which as a result he can blame himself for; this can cause even more dissatisfaction -> vicious loop here.. might have problems confronting and connecting to his emotions directly, chooses to run away from a lot of them. struggles expressing his feelings in a manner which accurately reflects his inner state of mind. goes back and forth between criticising and feeling sorry or guilty all the time. like he's in a constant inner turmoil.

personable, easy to get along with. seems like the member who's best at creating parasocial relationships with the public. he's good at making you feel like you're connected, as if you're his friend. a lot of pride and smugness. knows what he can do for the team and isn't afraid to allow his confidence to shine. very much content in his element. can therefore bring a sense of positivity and optimism to situations. also, quite mature and reliable. good head on his shoulders. great business man. loves having people think he's “husband” material. like a grown guy with a strong sense of responsibility.

fancier. more out there and less restrained. likes showing off, and everything fancy and glamorous. is he the member who dresses up the most in terms of airport fashion? it's kinda giving that to me. seems proud of his fame and status. likes the feeling when people recognize him. more self-focused. cares about things like actively keeping up his popularity, making sure he's well-liked off camera as well. reputation is insanely important to this man. taurus energy is literally dripping from him. i could imagine him looking up his name a lot on social media. extremely ambitious. can get quite obsessive and lean on the gluttonous side at times. very “my way”. might go back and forth a lot, between trying his best to be charitable and accommodating with people around him, while also strongly holding on to his own values, principles and opinions. does not budge easily, you'll rarely catch jay being a pushover. stubborn as a rock once he's convinced about his opinion. more traditionally minded, holds beliefs that lean towards the more conservative side.

youthful and bright, a childlike nature. sensitive to his surroundings with a dreamy quality to him, he can often find himself in a haze with his head in the clouds, i also heard “delusional”. at the same time, he can be very observant. quick wit. boldly speaks up when he feels the need to, and expresses himself bluntly at times. still presents himself as someone who's generally patient and tolerant, there's a bit of a hot and cold factor here. he's someone who seems calm and collected at first, but allows himself to step out of that once he feels strongly about something. jake can almost be like a child at his most emotional, but quiet and balanced once he's in work-mode. very hardworking, a diligent person who's continuously striving to reach higher goals and willing to put in the necessary effort.

passionate. gets random sparks of energy and motivation. definitely a “p” in terms of mbti. he's the type to feel strongly about e.g. a random hobby he found and obsess over it, just to get over it after a few days. burns hot once his inner fire erupts, but calms down just as fast. pours a lot of himself into every endeavour he faces. also gives off quite an individualistic and independent vibe, he doesn't really enjoy depending on other people to get things done for him. prefers doing it himself. detaches himself from people a lot of the time to gain a sense of inner balance. easily affected by his surroundings, especially by people's different energies. therefore needs his private space and alone-time to recharge. can be surprisingly introverted. a lot of internalised anxiety he tries his best to release when on his own. not someone to allow his inner stress to stand in the way of his work though. quite perfectionistic and hard to please in regards to himself.

chill, laidback, comfortable. easy to be around. not very reactive; in control of his emotions, rarely allows things to enrage him. and if he does, it's usually done in a tactful manner. i'd be surprised to ever catch this man fully lose grip on his temper while cameras are rolling. very mature as well, he knows how to present himself in a manner which shows off his best sides only. a lot of quiet but strong confidence he radiates to the outside. he's self-assured, and knows where his charm lies. a lot of natural charisma. his energy is very.. “i know i don't need to do much for you to like me.” like he's aware of the strong effect his presence can have on people.

good understanding of business. very protective of his career and what he's been able to build for himself. cautious about keeping it in tact. can be quite self-focused in that regard. can be much more “me me me” than you'd think, does desire and enjoy the spotlight to a degree, though he isn't obnoxious about it. i heard “don't ruin my moment” he doesn't like people getting in the way of his plans, feeling entitled to command him around, etc. very much a free spirit who doesn't enjoy having to majorly concern himself with others. careful and guarded when it comes to his private matters; draws a clear line between his professional life and personal life. adamant with his boundaries, i suggest not to cross them. holds grudges and stores much of his negativity inside, rather than letting it out. doesn't come without his insecurities, but they're likely to be so buried down, that he might not be entirely aware of them himself. generous, giving and supportive in his nature though. will offer a helping hand if he feels like someone is in direct need of it.

another member who's quite conscious of his image and what he chooses to display to the public. wants to present himself in the best way possible. like i can see him straightening his back and stroking his hair out his face once the cameras start rolling. can slip in and out of conversations or situations depending on if he cares enough lol. quite intentional about when he speaks up, and when he stays put. although he can have his stand-out moments, usually sunoo prefers just blending in and not pulling too much attention to himself. knows he needs to go with the flow of the people around him, and stays balanced, as well as peaceful when cameras are on.

the type to work harder when people aren't looking. very much invested in continuously developing his skills and talents and improving his abilities. the type to plan out certain longterm goals for himself in his head without telling anyone, since he doesn't see the need to. for sure more focused on himself.. all i sense is him thinking about his own life. doesn't really concern himself with the group as much, has his eyes on his own path. this can also lead to him dealing with a lot of his negative emotions by himself though. someone who's more used to to withdrawing, and therefore more comfortable isolating himself when struggling. i can't shake the feeling sunoo feels like enhypen isn't the place that enables him to shine as much as he could. like his potential just isn't being fully realized. might feel quite stunted artistically and creatively because he has to match himself to six other guys. there's some pent up frustration here, and i don't really see him having much of an outlet for it. i can also sense some fear regarding his actual ability to stand on his own though; so he can easily feel lost. he doesn't feel like a true part of the group, but can also lack the substantial belief in himself to take steps in the other direction.. very pisces mars of him; he thinks of the idea of doing certain things, but often doesn't decisively act on it.

worthy to note, that all i could think about was the group. he's very much aware of the unique responsibility that comes with being the leader. wants be a person of compassion and empathy for the team; someone who gives them the feeling of comfort. a resting place they can seek in times of stress. not only does he want for the members to be able to talk to him about anything, he also wants to be a source of confidence and inspiration. for the team, and in general. jungwon can often feel the need to remain strong and powerful for the sake of his group. i got reminded of this one quote bada lee once said about her dance team “if i fall apart, you guys will too” jungwon might relate to that in a way. he feels like the main guy pulling the ship forward. at the same time, there's some light and fun energy too. he doesn't want to seem too serious and strict all the time, and also make sure the atmosphere is enjoyable and lively for everyone. a little bit like a cool dad, lol. which is cute since he's the second youngest.

more business-minded. someone who's always making sure the professionalism is on par, everyone is aware of their jobs and does them orderly. can definitely get sharp-tongued and harsher with his words, if he feels the need to. will give you the reality checks you might be afraid of but are in need of to grow. his intentions are pure; he's just clear in what he expects from people and might not be the best at expressing it in a way that's more digestible for softer hearts. i can sense some fear in him of things going south for the group, so he's very protective over the place they're at now. will definitely be the one stepping up to argue if anyone dares to badmouth them. similarly to jay, he's also a member who can be quite focused on keeping his reputation up. might have a bit of an ego that gets in the way of him being easier to get along with though. i do see his ego being on the side of more quickly damaged, which can result in him getting defensive quite fast. make no mistake, he feels very protective over the group, but it's also because in his eyes, the course enhypen takes is largely reflective of how well jungwon himself is doing as the leader.

ni-ki

relentlessly hard-working, constantly trying to improve and striving for the top. someone who's just in his element when in work-mode. laidback and reserved. observant and attentive. usually keeps more to himself unless he needs to work. i see him being immensely perceptive, and sensitive to energies around him, which is why he can often consciously choose to detach himself. i got reminded of the quote that says “observe but don't absorb” a member who seems more uncomfortable about all the attention and eyes on him. prone to getting overwhelmed easily. the lines for on and off cam were more blurred for him. i don't see him being good at putting on a mask for the public, as much as he just chooses to stay quiet. it's like, if he doesn't showcase too much of himself, people have less things to judge him for. plus less things that distract them from what's important; his artistry. very professional. wants to primarily be seen and recognized for his work and craft. i don't see him enjoying fanservice, aegyo and silly stuff like that.

more self-conscious than what meets the eye. not easily satisfied, sees himself as a continuous student of his craft. very protective of his possessions, and focused on himself. can often feel like his work is the only thing he really knows and is good at, so he can be overly fixated on it. the type to get married to his work, to be honest lol. similarly to sunghoon, he doesn't like anyone rubbing their nose into his business. (the two sags, not surprising) can often crave a sense of control and stability in his life, and doesn't want people from the outside meddling in it for that reason. if ni-ki made a plan for himself, best believe he will go through with it till the very end. still, quite fair-minded. i don't see him being extremely greedy persé, but moreso holding himself to higher standards from the very beginning. wouldn't want to steal away anyone's opportunity, but wants to already be established enough, that he'd be first the choice anyway, if that makes sense. can feel trapped in his mind once he gets to a place of overthinking, and subconsciously set himself limitations that don't have to be there.

so yesterday I theorized that the fae in twst could be french, possibly breton inspiration, and was mercifully corrected by @tresgansosenunabrigo who actually knows things about french folklore unlike meee

we had a really good talk, which breathed life into a thought of mine about Briar Valley being parallel to ancient Irish mythology, that I had brushed off as insane months ago

some of the following is an old essay that I wrote, that I now find very very... um, incomplete at best, incorrect at worst. I've done my best to put out something more accurate, relevant, and interesting

but, for the sake of this essay: this is only for speculative purposes in the context of fiction. I am only drawing small parallels, and this is not a theory. I am not a teacher. I am not claiming to know everything. I'm just some guy who reads

a brief forward:

my credentials are "religious studies major" and not much else. I am not Irish, nor am I pagan, and my knowledge/study in Irish mythology is very secondary to Catholicism. I have been close to and spoken to a handful of experts within the field but am not one myself.

furthermore, I look to old/historical sources for knowledge, and reject eclectic and appropriative wiccan ideas. this has been a seven year long labor of love, but I'm still not perfect, and continue to sift through my sources every day. The misinformation that eclectics have created about Irish mythology have made way into books, into articles, into common belief, so it is, in fact very difficult not to internalize misinformation. I'm trying </3

and I am begging anyone in this field to correct any mistakes I make.

additionally I've only read a little bit of book 7 so I may be totally crazy. this is just a speculative piece, after all.

a glossary of knowledge:

for the purpose of this essay, I may use "fae" as an umbrella term, which includes pixies, medieval French fae, the aos sí, and the Tuatha de Danann*

*please note that the Tuatha de were gods in their original sources, but were changed to fairies, other supernatural beings, and occasionally kings in later Catholicized retellings.

I will be focusing most on ancient beliefs, with vague mentions of medieval/post-Catholicism ones. Catholicism is extremely important in the context of these stories, as it was the Catholic monks who preserved them in written form, and it's quite literally impossible not to mention. it's had a huge influence.

when talking about folklore, mythology, or religion, it's literally impossible to draw definite lines. it's why I hate when people say "well this religion stole this thing!" because religions intermingle, they share, they swap, they sometimes even meld with each other into something unique. ever-changing and different and the same. the Romans adopted their beliefs from the Greeks, and they shared gods with the Gauls, and then Christianity used the image of Jupiter as God. a big part of being a history major is understanding how to draw connections between cultures and peoples.

Admittedly, I am not familiar with the French idea of fae. I know that it is medieval. post-Christianity. it's a fairly loose term that denotes a "magical woman, skilled with words, herbs and stones" (via Wikipedia) and not much else. this is relevant to the Sleeping Beauty story, in which all the fairies are women. Maleficent's guards are not fairies, but ghouls (is that the right word?). I couldn't tell you the exact origin of French fairies, but it's not far-fetched to say they could have had "Celtic"* influence

*in reference to more than one culture in this context. scottish, manx, welsh, irish, etc

It is, perhaps, more important to add that French fairies are romantic figures in nature. very... fairy-tale esque. characters such as the fairy godmother and the good fairies in Perrault's version of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty are good examples of this.

TWST fae... are... a little different. obviously. while it may be easy to simply argue that "it's twisted, so they're darker" or "Briar Valley is based off Maleficent's domain so of course it's dark", it's implied (and shown!) that good entities come from Briar Valley, too. pixies exist in TWST, for example. then there are the good fairies from Sleeping Beauty, which have to exist alongside Maleficent in the canon of TWST. The fae here are layered, much more so than in their sources.

This is where I start seeing shit.

war, weapons, and invasion

When speculating on the influence of French folklore in Briar Valley, I was told that "war" is a rather uncommon thing in their stories. Invasion is, of course, an imperative theme in Briar Valley history, in Lilia's background, and in book 7 as a whole. So. I get thinking.

The war between the fae and the humans carries significant parallels to the war between the Tuatha de Danann and the humans in the Lebor Gabála Érenn, the Book of Invasions, wherein the "fae" and the humans warred over land and resources until the former were driven out of Ireland and the humans became the ancestors of the modern Irish. And by "parallels" I mean this exact thing happens. THE EXACT THING. The Book of Invasions was literally the first thing I thought about when in Lilia's dream.

War is, of course, a recurring theme in Irish mythology. Ná Morríghan is associated with war, there's that entire book of invasions, like, anything about Cú Chulainn, etc.

I also, very quickly, want to draw a comparison between Lilia's magearm and the four treasures of the Tuatha de Danann, which are described in literature such as the Lebor Gabála and Cath Maige Tuired (iirc). magical weaponry is a fairly common motif in various Celtic mythologies. in Irish mythology, it's the Spear of Lugh, and various swords, clubs, etc. The magearm just struck the same chord for me.

nature

I fear this is about to get very ~ohooo magical pagan connection to nature!~ please bear with me.

The mythology of Ireland is very, very, very tied to the land. You can still see this today, actually. Various natural formations- hills, islands, etc- have mythological names. Much like Olympus in Greek mythology, places mentioned in Irish mythological sources have real-world counterparts, such as Tech Duinn, the House of the Dead, being Bull Rock- a tiny island off the coast of Cork (cool post about that and the ancient Irish belief in death here). Trees had important religious, cultural, and linguistic (see: Ogham) connotations. Many of the Tuatha de had animalistic attributes and associations, such as Morríghan and crows. Even more were associated with fertility and agriculture, which was kind of a big deal. Symbols that which represent fertility, are rather common motifs (such as the Lia Fáil on the Hill of Tara, which I've read is theorized to be phallic).

That's not even mentioning the oceans, the cliffs, the forests, or the sidhe (a "fairy mounds", manmade or natural features that connect our world to the otherworld of Irish mythology).

At multiple points in Lilia's dream do we hear the fae talk about how important nature is to fae. I am unsure if this strong love for land is a theme in French folklore.

I also want to briefly point out that, in reputable sources, the "Celtic" day began at sunset. Darkness- night, winter, cold- were important to the ancient Irish, both in culture and in mythology. It's probable that their "New Year" began at Samhain (soh-wen), the holiday that celebrated the beginning of winter, to put it briefly. Here's a discussion post about this (and I sent this ask!!!!)

I just find the significance of darkness and night to hold some ground with the concept of "nocturnal fae" in TWST. "Night's blessing's", they say.

I also want to add, very quickly, that there are multiple different iterations of "fairies" in Irish mythology and folklore. The Tuatha de resemble humans. The modern aos sí are more mystical. The Fomorians (whom are or are not fairies, depending on who you ask?) are described as more animalistic and monstrous. The nature of fae in TWST is unclear, but they read, to me, as human-like with different abilities, different physical attributes, and a different connection to land and nature. Which is, in form, similar enough to the "fae" of Irish (and other Celtic) folklore.

Lilia

Head in hands. Shall we talk about the importance of the paternal figure in Irish mythology. I feel I have to.

I really really hate saying the word "fertility" so much because I start sounding like a Wiccan, I promise I'm going somewhere with this.

In the Nature segment, I briefly touched on the importance of fertility and the phallic symbol. I know that usually, when talking about ~fertility~ in reference to paganism, people are talking women/goddesses, but throughout my readings of Irish mythology, I've found that male fertility is just as important. More specifically, fatherhood. I, unfortunately, couldn't find much input on this, but I think it's safe to say that The Dagda, for example, is considered an important father figure and is associated with fatherhood.

It's just important.

Head in hands again. Now let's talk about fostering. Fosterage was, by most sources, a really big thing in ancient Ireland. Raising someone else's child, including that of your enemy, was not only acceptable, not only common, but traditional. And the themes of fosterage exist in the mythos, too- in Tóraigheacht Dhiarmada agus Ghráinne, the demi-god Diarmuid was fostered by Aengus Og. Aengus Og was also fostered. Fosterage is a theme in Cú Chulainn's story, so on and so forth. The gods/fae/etc foster humans, they foster demi-gods, they foster other gods.

I wanted to mention both of these as important themes in both Irish mythology and Lilia's story because like. come onnn lol.

And One More Thing!!!

This isn't super relevant to this essay, I just like to bring it up: Lilia is vampiric? Well, there's vampires in Irish folklore (or close enough, anyway. the link gives a few different versions of the story and their origins). Some think that Abhartach was actually the true inspiration behind Bram Stoker's Dracula. I don't know how much credibility this theory has, I've read a few essays on it. I just think this is fun.

Silver

Much of what I said in Lilia could be said here, too. All I really want to bring up is the symbolism of acorns. I've mentioned that certain trees had mythological connections, and the oak tree was. Um. A big one. It's a recurring theme, past, and present. Even the "Celtic Tree of Life" is an oak. I don't know, it's just important.

I could also draw some pretty stark comparisons between the story of Fionn mac Cumhaill, a heroic figure in Irish Mythology, and Silver, but that would be a bit much.

Sebek

Half-god and half-human heroes, fae, whatever etc are very much present and important in Irish mythology. That's all I can think of for now.

Malleus

I suppose I could, if I tried very hard, find something to say about Malleus, but this is where the ~medieval Europe~ starts to seep in. I am unaware of any dragons or dragonlike creatures in Irish, or other Celtic, myth.

Nobility is, however, a major theme in Irish mythology. There are many rules, there are laws, there are gods and goddesses of sovereignty, it's huge, and sort of parallels Diasomnia's structure, in a strange way. I'd need to know how their housewarden is chosen, lmao.

conclusion

Do I think the TWST writers have an intimate knowledge of ancient Irish mythology and are purposefully making allusions to drive me insane specifically? no. obviously not. is it possible that these myths have influenced the general idea of fae, and thus were included in the writing process unconsciously? yes. absolutely!

Ultimately, this is more of a thought exercise and an analysis than a theory. Take it as you will.

summary: fake relationships with your enemy are never a good idea. but this one was.

as soon as jack left, you broke down into tears once more. sure you hated him before, but somewhere along the way the line between real and fake began to blur. you found yourself falling for him. and now, it had been ripped away. 

jack found tears spilling out of his eyes on the way home. as soon as the words left his mouth he wished he could take them back. he didnt know why he blew up on you but he knew you didnt deserve it. he never truly hated you, just frustrated you could never be his. but now that frustration had become reality.

the next few days were awfully silent. a few months ago you wouldve been overjoyed by this fact, but now you felt like a piece of you was missing. the very first premiere was in just two days so you knew you had to pull yourself together. 

the day leading up to the premiere you did anything and everything you could to keep jack out of your mind. on the other hand, you were the only thing going through jacks mind.

sitting in the makeup chair, you felt all your nerves catching up to you. this will be the first time you see jack since that night. not only would it be the first interaction since then, but all eyes would be on you. this event was the day where you and jack officially announce your ‘relationship’ to the world. sure there had been many sightings of you two, but this would make everything official. his hurtful words replay in your head. you had thought that maybe he was falling for you too, but you had never been so wrong. 

stepping out of the car, you are met with screaming and flashing lights. immediately forgetting about any worry, you feel a sense of pride wash over you. all your hard work had payed off. you giggle walking over to fans, signing and chatting. you were so distracted you didnt see jack coming up beside you. 

he was distracted for a moment, taking in your appearance. he thought you looked absolutely stunning. seeing you smile and laugh with your fans, a true genuine smile. he continued on, beginning to chat with fans and sign posters. 

finally noticing his presence, you turn to look at jack. you hate to admit that he looks amazing. you couldnt help but stare, the moment was interrupted by your assistant letting you know it was almost time to walk the carpet. you collect your thoughts for a moment as your makeup artist touches you up. smoothing down your dress you smile walking onto the carpet. you pose for photos, feeling the most confident you have in weeks. that is until jack enters the carpet. you lock eyes for what feels like an eternity, feeling every emotion come over you. he walks over to you, sliding his arm around your waist. you look up at him while he begins smiling at the camera. shaking off your nerves you do the same. the photographers go absolutely insane. 

“jack are you guys a couple?!” 

“y/n over here! what made you fall for him?” 

“jack!!! y/n!!!” 

“you guys are stunning together” 

laughing off your nerves, you are quickly escorted off the carpet and to your very first interview. 

“y/n, listen i wanted to-” jack begins but is quickly cut off by the interviewer. 

“jack! y/n! how lovely it is to see you! so when did this happen?!” the interviewer asks, very excited to see you two together. 

“well we obviously met during the filming of this movie but we really connected towards the end. we started hanging out and it just felt natural to be together” you link your hands together, leaning into his side. 

“so jack, what attracted you to y/n?” the interviewer asks. 

“everything really i mean” he begins, looking down at you. 

“she just has these gorgeous eyes that you could stare at forever. she’s one of the most positive people ive ever met. theres never a moment with her where im not smiling or laughing. she just brings this energy that you cant help but feel comforted by. y/n is one of the most hard-working people i have ever met, she has such a burning passion. i could talk about her for forever.” he finishes, beginning to rub circles on your hand with his thumb. 

“wow, i mean to have a love like yours. i’ll let you guys go but i hope you have an amazing evening” the interviewer ends. 

you suddenly feel overwhelmed and anxious. from jacks words to his comforting hand, knowing he didnt mean any of it. tearing away from his side you rush into the building trying to collect yourself. tears threatening to spill, you take a few deep breaths. jack quickly finds you, rushing after you. you see him and sigh trying to make a quick escape. he reaches for your arm pulling you in. 

“y/n please just talk to me. i didnt mean any of what i said that night-” jack begins. 

“i don't need your apology jack. please don't make me feel more stupid than i already do.” you look up at him, tears blurring your vision.

“what do you-”

“im in love with you jack. i think i have been since the beginning, of everything. these last few weeks i just, ive never felt happier. you make me happy. since that moment in your car, i was head over heels and there was nothing i could do to stop it. somewhere along the way it wasnt an act for me anymore.” you explain, tears rolling down your cheeks. 

silence falls over you as jack only stares. feeling enough embarrassment you begin to walk away. 

quickly pulling your arm, jack smashes his lips against yours. you immediately melt into the kiss reaching your arms around his neck as he pulls you in incredibly closer. every emotion you have ever felt in the past few months is poured into the kiss. pulling apart with red cheeks and pink lips. 

“im in love with you y/n” jack confesses. 

“and im so sorry for that night. i wish i could take it all back, i didnt mean any of it. but i meant every word i said to that interviewer. i am so utterly and hopelessly in love with you.” 

“so much for being enemies huh” you smile up at him. 

pulling him in for a kiss, smiling against his lips. the whole enemy act was overrated anyway.

recently joined the lesbian fiona bandwagon and now i need to express my hcs & analysis on debbie/fiona realizing they’re lesbians:

debbie secretly prints out the lesbian masterdoc when she first starts to struggle with having/finding a bf. she skims it and brushes it off (bc comphet/repression), shoving the pages between her mattress and boxspring so no one can dig them out of the trash and interrogate her. she forgets about them for years and just continues to try to fit in with other girls and gets pregnant and has franny. and franny is her everything and she thought maybe franny could fix her and make her appreciate and love a man for giving franny to her but oh fuck there’s still something missing.

so later on when she’s older and genuinely having an identity crisis, one day she takes the sheets off her bed to wash them and she finds the old crumply lesbian masterdoc pages peeking out. she steals one of ian’s blankets from his bed (bc he’s in jail and she wishes more than anything he could talk her through all this but at the same time knows he wouldn’t ever fully understand. but at least he’s here in spirit). and she reads that shit cover to cover under her blanket with a flashlight and makes the most scribbled manic nonsensical annotations all over the pages to the point where the paper is made of more pen strokes than original text. she rereads the doc every night until she falls asleep for a week straight. she puts herself in every hypothetical situation, conjures up random male fictional characters/celebrities to deny the truth, looks over at her baby and feels the worst kind of guilt that she doesn’t know how to love the 50% of her own kid that came from a man. and then she falls in love with a girl for the first time, like REALLY in love, and all that doubt and anxiety just disappears and it’s them and franny against the world and nothing could make her happier.

okay and then fiona is a whole different ballpark. she doesn’t have the time or energy for such insane levels of self-discovery. she’s so focused on her kids that thinking about who she loves is like the furthest thing from her mind. she knows she *can* be happy with a man, she knows that she enjoys sex with men in theory, she doesn’t see any other option for herself besides what she’s been doing, going through the motions. i imagine younger/teenage fiona inherited her parents’ fucked up ideas and perceptions about sex and relationships and so the bar for her is literally on the floor. she’s perfectly fine just engaging in meaningless sex and impulsive relationships that end sooner than they begin and throwing herself and her worth away to keep the men in her life happy. these relationships come to her naturally because she’s been doing this for so long, likely since middle/high school. she doesn’t care if the guy is objectively bad for her or if she fucks him every night or if she marries him after only knowing him for a week because none of it really holds any weight to her. she dates guys who can provide for their kids because it doesn’t matter if they’re good for her as long as her kids are happy. to her, relationships with men are just standard practice. it’s not so much about genuinely being in love, it’s about the benefits and the recklessness and the constant need to throw herself into chaos lest she feel completely useless.

and then along the way she meets jasmine and angela and nessa (and probably others too). and whoa boy everything gets flipped on its fucking head. she finally starts to understand what people mean when they say their S/O or crushes give them actual butterflies in their stomachs. she gets excited imagining herself being intimate with them. it’s not some chore or some ritual/routine that just exists for the sake of feeling connected, it’s an *actual* connection. it’s confusing as fuck because it’s not like she’s actually ever been with a girl before so she doesn’t understand what about it makes her feel so giddy, but the feeling doesn’t go away. the way she interacts with these women she barely knows is SO different than the guys she dates and sleeps with and even marries because these women have such fresh perspectives and raw energy that excites her. they care about her in a genuine sort of way, they’re tender and gentle but also loud and bold and confident all at once and it’s the actual coolest thing.

her biggest struggles come with the fact that she’s realizing her sexuality relatively late in life. she feels repulsed by identifying as a lesbian because of the whole “gold star” rhetoric, and because what nearly 30-year-old dates and sleeps with and marries dozens of men since they were a teenager and then suddenly goes “mm actually i’m gay”? it’s all so pointless to her and it doesn’t compute in her brain that there’s more than one way to be a lesbian. and i think debbie coming out first would help her with this; even though she dismisses it (because deep down she’s projecting her own experiences and beliefs about sexuality onto debbie), she realizes that damn, her kid sister is way happier than she’s ever seen her with any of those other losers. so when fi leaves for florida, she figures it’s the perfect time to reinvent herself and start fresh. no strings attached, no ghosts of past relationships haunting her. she’s free to be with whoever she wants and no one has to know anything else beyond her present self. (although moving to florida as a newly discovered lesbian is definitely a choice given everything that goes on there relating to LGBTQ+ issues, but it’s something new for her at least. tbh i imagine she only stays in florida for like a year or two max, makes some money, gets a gf, and moves with her to somewhere else much more tolerant and vibrant and similar but not identical to home).

Iridescent Chapter 34

At the rate Prowl marched along the corridor, it didn't take long for him to reach his hab.

It was exactly as he'd left it. Plain white walls and an alphabetised stack of datapads upon the desk. The only item of individuality, was the framed holo besides his berth, the same as the one by Bluestreak's.

Yet suddenly it felt all too empty. As though there was something missing that he needed to replace.

He glanced to the berth, the tarp covers neatly tucked in as he did every morning. For some season the sight stirred something within him. It was irrational yet he didn't want them to be tidy with no evidence of what had happened there on so many previous nights.

Prowl realised that he did not want what had happened between him and Jazz to be hidden away until his processor removed the memory in place of something the tact-net deemed more important.

In fact he didn't just want to remember, he wanted it to continue. And not just as an excuse of a distraction. But because he enjoyed it.

Prowl did not seek to take enjoyment in many things. His personal pleasure did not matter when compared to the war. And even before then, it had been something he had often denied himself, in favour of his duty.

And it wasn't just the sex. It was the times when Jazz would bug him into taking a break or how the spy would look at a scenario in ways that Prowl could never comprehend. And it was the hope that there would be more morning after where that connection between them went beyond purely physical or professional.

For the first time in a long time, Prowl wanted something for himself.

He wanted Jazz.

Prowl hadn't been in many relationships before. He was aware that he was considered physically attractive but was also aware that this fact mattered little as most mechs considered him to be too cold and callus for a long term relationship. And of the few that he'd had, there had only really been two that he would call serious. One with a fellow enforcer who had called him a cold-sparked glitch right before he had ended it. The other Prowl had ended himself when he learnt the scientist he'd been seeing was certifiably insane.

Prowl was aware of Jazz's reputation. The tactician payed little mind to the endless rumour mill of the Ark, but he did not recall ever hearing about Jazz actually dating any of his berth partners.

Prowl knew that was little chance that Jazz would say yes to an offer of courtship. All the evidence pointed to the conclusion that Jazz was not interested in relationships, least of all with Prowl. But that was not the point, for if Prowl did not say anything now, then he would not get another chance.

His mind made up, Prowl yanked open his door, intending to march straight to Jazz's hab.

However it would turn out that that was unnecessary, as leaning on the frame of his now open door, was Jazz.

Prowl halted in his tracks. His mental calculations had suggested that there would be a less then eight percent chance that Jazz would come to him. Then again Jazz was never anything if not unpredictable.

"Hey." Jazz smiled.

Prowl would consider himself an expert on reading Jazz at this point, but even he could not decipher the meaning of Jazz's expression under the blank gaze of his visor.

"Hello." Prowl replied, suddenly unsure what to say. The pre planned speech that had been forming in his mind evaporating as his optics saw how the overhead lights caught on the curves of Jazz's frame as the spy leaned the weight of his chassis forward. Prowl could even see some scratches of white paint there that Jazz hadn't had the chance to yet buff out. Prowl hoped none of high command had noticed.

The corner of Jazz's smile twitched.

High Command might not have noticed but the bot in front of him certainly had.

"I'm guessing that powerful processor of yours can deduce why I'm here?" Jazz smirked.

Prowl nodded. The odds were stacked against the outcome. He had even heard of bets being placed that the spy would never settle for a monogamous relationship. So yes Prowl could deduce the reason why Jazz was here, even if he could scarcely believe it.

Jazz leant forward even further, crowding into Prowl's personal space. The spy brushed away a mark of black paint that Prowl hadn't even noticed on his own bumper. The action unbalanced Prowl in more ways than one as a jolt tingled from Jazz's fingers.

Jazz's visor was still blank but Prowl could tell his optics had turned their attention from his chassis to his lips. Jazz moved forward, and Prowl was pulled towards him, like an asteroid on a collision course with an unsuspecting planet, when suddenly Jazz rocked back on his pedes.

"There you go! It was fun whilst it lasted but we don't want to leave any evidence for command to start a fuss about now!"

Prowl nearly fell flat on his face.

For a moment his processor failed to process what had just happened.

By the time he'd regained his balance, Jazz was already half way down the corridor.

"Jazz!" Prowl cried, the name ripped from his vocalised before he could think about stopping himself.

The spy turned around, that same lazy smile on his face as though this was all some big joke that Prowl had once again failed to understand.

"Yeah?"

The spy must have been a better actor than Prowl gave him credit for because he didn't even recognise the bot in front of him.

"I…I am glad that Blackout has returned."

Before he could see the spy's reaction, Prowl marched straight back to his quarters, locking the door behind him and for the first time since Praxus, he felt his vocaliser choke back a sob.

The Jegulily Band Au? 👀

hehehe the jegulily band au started on this post made by archie ( @aithusarosekiller ) and it hasn't left my mind since. go look through the reblogs bc it's a wild ride. pretty sure both of us have most of the posts related to it tagged as jegulily band au on our accounts so go look through it to see us losing our minds

it's shared project so nothing is set in stone but here are my current ideas for it :D

lily and regulus are high school sweethearts, they met bc they were both in the school band and hit it off from there. lots of teenage shenanigans ensue and lily and regulus end up forming a band with barty, peter and remus. it's nothing serious they just kinda get together once in a while to have some fun playing random songs. they continue this after high school as they're all going to college and everything is normal UNTIL sirius brings along his friends (james and marlene) to one of their band get togethers.

james (who is an amazing producer btw) immediately falls for regulus and lily despite them being already in a relationship and he's like so smitten it's adorable honestly. he starts talking to them and once he finds out they would love to make an album and try taking this band thing seriously he immediately offers himself up to help them make music. and he brings marlene (who is a social media manager) into it like "yeah she'll help you manage all of it" (she has no idea he's doing any of this)

idk how they would actually get together but it doesn't matter rn what does matter is that their silly little band debuts and they go viral bc their music is amazing ofc. they make more albums, their music videos get millions of views, they sell out stadiums, life is great.

everyone knows that regulily are dating bc they're so public about it, but no one knows that james even exists (apart from him being credited as their producer) let alone that he's dating both of them. james, being the rockstar gf he is, constantly posts pictures from their concerts, always with romantic captions or wtvr bc he's a lover like that. the comments on his posts are always split between "this guy is delusional" and "how tf does he manage to get the tickets for EVERY DAMN CONCERT??"

after lots of back and forth, regulus and lily finally get james to star in one of the music videos for a song that lily wrote specifically about their relationship. they tease the song for months, posting snippets and strange photos with captions that don't make sense unless you're following james and you can see that the captions are all connected. everyone just thinks james is delulu

a week before the music video drops, the band's official account posts like a 10 second teaser and it's of lily and regulus doing couple shit BUT there's another guy there with curly hair and round glasses and everyone is going insane bc WHY DOES THAT GUY LOOK LIKE JAMES POTTER THE CRAZY STALKER. jegulily are having the time of their lives watching the fans go crazy, meanwhile poor marlene has to deal with the aftermath

this au is just a bunch of crazy stuff honestly i had so many ideas for it but i didn't write any of them down so i'm stuck with what i can remember off the top of my head </3

oh and also peter/remus/sirius are all dating and sirius is a famous model and he just randomly appears in the band's music videos and all the comments scream "WHAT IS SIRIUS BLACK DOING HERE" like sirius doesn't regularly post selfies with both of his boyfriends 🙄

Connections: Part One

Continuation of "Hold On To “What If”: Overanalyzing and Rewriting Sonic Prime" essay

[Once Again, spoilers for Sonic Prime, all media here belong to their respective creators.]

Looking at the series as a whole made me theorize about possible connections between characters and how it all came back from EP 1.

Sonic's Old Friends vs. Nine's "Look-Alikes" Argument

(Most of this was written before S3 premiered and edited due to seeing it after)

I’ve seen people referring to each of the Shatterspace characters as a personality variant or clone of Sonic’s friends. In the show, it was Sonic who made that same mistake. To be clear, they aren't. They do admittedly look similar in appearance but they are completely different characters by their morals, backstories, and personalities — “look-alikes” as I call them.

💬 "But some of the characters share the same names..."

Well, think about it: people in real life could share the same surname, and full name if by chance. But it doesn't necessarily mean that they are related or are the same person entirely. Or think about identical twins/triplets/etc, just because they look around the same, doesn't mean they have the same personality or habits. Sure, they might share a couple of things but they are their own person in their own right.

Comparing the "look-alikes" to the OG cast strips them of their individuality, the same argument that Nine in the S2 finale. Some people believed that Nine's betrayal came out of nowhere, and I'm here to clarify it. Let's start from the beginning:

[S1 EP1]

After Sonic saves Nine, he attempts to explain their backstory, assuming that Nine is Tails. Nine tells him on the contrary, growing up in a cold environment.

Confused by the situation, Sonic says:

Sonic: “You are Tails, but you’re not. Here, but gone?”

At this moment, Sonic was starting to wonder whether or not Nine was Tails.

That was until Nine asked,

Transcript:

Nine: “So… so what else did we do?”

The use of “we” was interpreted differently for Nine and Sonic. Nine used “we” to say, “If I wasn’t bullied from where you came from, what was the life I didn’t get to have?”

Sonic heard “we” and believed that somewhere within Nine is Tails.

One, that brings some comfort for Sonic who just lost his friends, and two, deep down, he wanted Nine to be Tails. It wasn’t to replace Tails or anything, but he wanted his best friend back, the one who was always like a brother to him.

Transcript:

Sonic: "Well, first of all, you have the coolest plane."

Instead of saying,

“The Tails I knew had the coolest plane" or

"A version of you from my world had the coolest plane” or

"There's a friend of mine who kinda looks like you/reminds me of you, and he had the coolest plane"

He went with "you". This is the first instance Sonic mistakes Nine for Tails. It could be Sonic not getting used to New Yoke City’s "look-alike" of Tails or believing that Nine must've "lost his memory" or not understanding the concept of multiverse, but it could also be what he subconsciously wanted, Nine to be Tails. Again, it wasn't his intention to hurt anyone.

Meanwhile, Nine was surprised with the revelation. This complete stranger, who claims to know him, was telling stories about these supposed adventures they had together. It sounded insane, but the same stranger was the one who saved his life. He grew up in this cruel environment, forced to fend for himself, and this was the first time someone cared for him. He doesn't completely let his guard down, he just met this guy a couple minutes ago. But hearing about these adventures, intrigued him.

After this interaction, everything began to change. As much as Nine keeps his guard up, he does open up when Sonic is being genuine with him, just Sonic being himself. Nine isn't used to this, having to build a spiky exterior to protect himself emotionally and physically, but seeing that Sonic isn't a threat, he allows the hedgehog to hang around. Notice how during their interactions whenever Nine is around Sonic, his robotic tails stay idly instead of being on guard.

Transcript:

Sonic: "I, uh like them, by the way." Nine: "Those ratty old sneakers? Obviously." Sonic: "No, I mean, I always thought your extra tail was cool, but the metal ones? Man, you're amazing." Nine: "Uh, sure. One last touch..."

Again, Nine isn't letting his guard, at least not completely, but hanging out with Sonic was a(n arguably nice) change of pace for him.

Now, let's switch back to Sonic's POV, based on their interactions. For our sake, I'm not gonna put every single screenshot so we'll stick to certain lines:

After Nine gave Sonic the tech to stabilize his Prism energy:

Sonic: "Thanks, Tails. I mean, Nine. Time for a test drive."

When Nine warns Sonic about the Council and advises him to keep a low profile:

Sonic: “When you get your memory back, you'll remember that low profile isn't my thing.”

When the Council decided to perform tests on Sonic, and Sonic attempted to refuse, only to stay for Nine's safety:

Rusty: "Do not fight them. It will only end badly for him." [...] Sonic: "Okay, Let's start the test... The sooner we do this, the sooner we do this, the sooner Nine and I can get out of here."

All of this within the first episode, it shows several things about Sonic. Now it can be argued that, yeah,

💬 "Sonic is just not used to distinguishing Nine from Tails, being he just got there and the two are very alike. Plus, he didn't know about the whole Shatterverse concept yet until later on in S1."

However, we should still consider his first impression of Nine because, without it, we wouldn't understand his way of thinking later on. In episode one, Sonic believed that he was transported into a timeline in the same world where Eggman won and met "Tails" who somehow must've lost his memory. As if Sonic was taken from the supposed equation. Still, he wants to set things right and perhaps try to help "Tails" return back to normal. Even if "Tails" grew up with a whole different life and name, Sonic wanted to try.

It wasn't until the end of the episode, that he learned the truth: this wasn't a different timeline, this was a whole new universe. A new world, one he accidentally caused. By then, he's beginning to understand the multiverse stuff, but he can't move on to the exception that "Tails=Nine". Well now, instead he believes that "Nine=a clone of Tails", believing that the two are identical in personality and intelligence. As Sonic told Shadow later on, Nine may be angsty and have a few changes in appearance but he is just like Tails. As such, he still treats Nine as if it was Tails.

Neither of the two is at fault here, they are simply interpreting what is happening to them based on assumptions. As Nine once said, all of it was still a mystery for the two of them.

Deep down, they wanted a home, for two very different reasons. If they were at fault for anything, it's them not taking the time to communicate this calmly.

I've heard several people say:

💬 "Nine didn't care about Sonic and is just using him for his own purpose."

That is not true at all. Look at this scene in EP6:

Nine: "The perfect place to start over and get the world right. With the proper fortifications and enough Shard Energy, it could be home. The one you lost. The one I never had. I can make that hope a reality for the both of us."

Why on Earth would Nine want to include Sonic in his plans for the Grim? This is the most vulnerable he has ever been, his tails off-guard and his expressions being genuine. If Nine had been capable of being his own for years, then he would've been able to travel to the other worlds and take their Shards. He doesn't need Sonic. But he does want Sonic to be part of his "home". Again, he values ACTIONS over WORDS. Sonic is the first one to ever be his friend, the first to show care towards him. And in return, he opens up and cares as well, having Sonic be put into consideration for his decisions. He knows Sonic completely lost his home, Green Hill, so he wanted to surprise him with this, a new home for just the two of them.

Sonic however remains with the same mindset. Of course, the discovery of Prism's potential is incredible, Tails has done brilliant things in the past so Nine would be no different. But Sonic, as a hero, couldn't leave the Rebellion to fend for themselves against the Council. Since Tails would understand a situation like this, surely Nine would too. Right?

Transcript:

Sonic: "Look, Nine, it's incredible but it's not going anywhere. Come with me. Help me finish the fight."

Unfortunately, he doesn't.

Transcript:

Nine: "That city never brought me anything but misery. I owe it nothing. I'll help you get back..."

I'll talk more about this in my next connection, but I want to say that Sonic doesn't understand Nine. After all, Nine did tell him that he isolated himself from everyone for the sake of self-preservation. No one stopped to care, to protect. It was every being for themselves. So Nine doesn't see anyone who deserves to be saved, if they're just going to respond with hostility. (Not that Sonic ignored what he said, just set on the mindset he had.)

Well, this isn't Nine hating Sonic for wanting to go back, it's more that Nine doesn't get the point of why on Earth Sonic would like to save them. He does let Sonic go, and Sonic hopes that Nine will come and help him. After Sonic leaves, Nine shows a bit of hesitation. Again, he's perfectly fine without Sonic, and yet his friendship with Sonic made him second guess. He may not know why Sonic would want to save those people, but if the Council happened to capture Sonic again, Nine wouldn't be able to help him. Sonic trusts him, and he's not going to lose his first-ever friend.

Garrance: How to Save a Life

I live laugh love Garrance and I once edited the first part. And ever since like one day, I listened to How to Save a Life by The Fray and went "omg..." AND WAS LIKE THATS THEM!! It was actually in like 2021 and it was me imagining if I had artistic talent and making a general MCD edit of it but slowly its turned into a predominantly Garrance theme song for me and like. I NEED TO SPREAD THIS AGENDA!! Just a heads up, its 1am for me rn, I don't remember everything the clearest, and I'm literally just rambling so it wont be too organized or have consistent grammar or writing styles. ANYWHO cue the music

Step one, you say we need to talk He walks, you say, "Sit down, it's just a talk" He smiles politely back at you You stare politely right on through Some sort of window to your right As he goes left and you stay right Between the lines of fear and blame You begin to wonder why you came OKAY SO LIKE THIS WHOLE FIRST PART I always envision it as late season 1 Garrance. Specifically when Garroth had his depressive episode (WHICH BY THE WAY GUYS WAS NOT HIM BEING AN INCEL!! IT WAS HIM BEING DEPRESSED AND MANIPULATED AND MOST LIKELY BRAINWASHED STOP VILLAINIZING HIM). Laurance did try to talk to him in that one episode, and it obviously didn't work. Laurance CARES about Garroth, like thats obviously super clear, and to see someone close to him randomly go into hiding and act all depressed is scary to him. And then... THE WINDOW TO YOUR RIGHT IS QUITE LITERALLY THE PORTAL TO THE IRENE DIMENSION!! Garroth goes left (to Zane) and Laurance stays right (to Aphmau). THE LINES OF FEAR AND BLAME? Laurance finds out that Garroth was tricked. He's scared of Garroth rn because he's literally insane but he blames himself too, not just for being part of the illusion that made Garroth become like this, but also because he wasn't there to help him out more maybe. He could've saved him, but he couldn't, and it still plagues him especially after he escapes the Irene Dimension. Garroth is all alone there with his brother who wants to kill him.

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Yes this continues with the last part. But Laurance lost a friend here. Like. Not just by Garroth betraying them, but by him getting stuck in a dimension thats practically torture. And the bitterness? ITS THE BITTERNESS GARROTH WAS LOST IN!!! Laurance would stay up with Garroth all night... but he didn't know how to save a life.

Let him know that you know best 'Cause after all, you do know best Try to slip past his defense Without granting innocence Lay down a list of what is wrong The things you've told him all along And pray to God He hears you And I pray to God He hears you, and Alright this is were a lot more interpretation comes in because once Garroth returns, they interact like... TWICE??? The scene were Laurance goes out of character and hates on Aaron (although he had a point) and when he finally saw Garroth again but Aph was dressed as Zane. I also don't remember the ending of Season 2 that much; most of my strongest memories of MCD is Season 1. So like. Bear with me here. But this is Garroth to Laurance now. Laurance is now going insane. The calling (whatever that is because it is so unclear) is well... calling to Laurance. To me, Laurance's mental health is literally just spiraling. And Garroth, someone who has had his fair share of mental health struggles, wants to help. He knows best; he knows to talk to people, he knows the dark paths it can bring people. He's trying to get through to Laurance and telling him whats wrong, how he can help. But of course, in this situation, Laurance can't listen. He can't hear Garroth, and Garroth's close connection with the religion in MCD is a bonus for the final lines too.

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Of course the chorus is back because I have to explain this perspective too. By now, I imagine Laurance has left. Garroth feels guilty; someone who helped keep Aphmau together while he was gone and someone he loved. This is really simple but like, I can't skip over this.

As he begins to raise his voice You lower yours and grant him one last choice Drive until you lose the road Or break with the ones you've followed He will do one of two things He will admit to everything Or he'll say he's just not the same And you'll begin to wonder why you came AND NOW THIS IS BOTH PERSPECTIVES!! It shows the parallels between their own journeys. Let's start with Garroth, since we have more stuff on him. Garroth was very defensive during his depressive episode and during the final episode of season 1, he has one final choice. Go with Zane, or come to his senses. And he does admit to everything, but at first, he said he's just not the same. BECAUSE HE WASN'T!! HE WAS SAD AND MANIPULATED. But for Laurance, he would also be defensive about this. His own self will is being stripped from himself because of weird Nether laws and he's spiraling. Garroth tries to help... but he simply can't. There is nothing he can do. OR MAYBE THERE IS?? Idk this is kind of just in my mcd rewrite universe and i like to imagine theres some way Laurance does get better but at the same time realistically... would he?? The nether is like so strong. Like how would he do that. But he does have a choice: either go to the Nether, or stay with his group. He can either admit it's hard, or he's just changed and leave. And now the final chorus and everything plays and its kind of the same as before... ive gotten increasingly more eepy during this writing and I hope my rambling style got my ideas across because this song literally got in my top 5 spotify wrapped because i kept imagining garrance angst to it. its so them god one day i need to share stuff about my rewrite. theres so much random stuff i have in there and this song is really important to it. i just like. GARRANCE RAHHH. my former interpretations of this song also had an aphmau perspective, which does entirely work; like. imagine the final verses is mirroring her own experiences with garroth AND laurance. i love garrancemau (SHE HAS TWO HANDS!! ignore how i also ship her with two more people too she can just hug them all at once) but i cant put it into this song as much as i used to because its so garrance. theyre so ugh i love my sad little gay men!! anyways toodles my rant here is done

Blair Raven Witches

What is it —

A 6 episode dark fantasy animated mini-series and female-led spin-off series to Total Drama, that plays around the Halloween season and is best described as a cross between The Nightmare Before Christmas, Monster House, Amazing Stories, W.I.T.C.H. (TV Series) and even the Haunted Mansion ride with either the tone of it or the aesthetic of it.

PREMISE:

Set some time shortly after the events of All-Stars, Pahiktew Island and The Ridonculous Race, we follow at first three characters who in their own ways for better or worse are now trying to move on with their lives — Gwen, Zoey and Sky. Gwen is now currently living with her aunt who she shares a lot in common with, and is working on her art but is struggling to move out of Total Drama's shadow when everyone around her connects her to it. Zoey is having a better time, being on the verge of getting into her dream college but has her own troubles she's dealing with when it comes to her long distance relationship with her boyfriend Mike. Sky on the other hand is having the worst of it all, as due to her actions she's now a laughingstock and has damaged her dream of ever being in the Olympics and while she does have some regret over her behavior, her stubbornness makes Sky her own worst enemy.

Each girl is dealing with their own obstacles in their post-reality show lives. But things are about to take them down an unexpected turn that they never even remotely expected when on the same night, they're dragged into a hidden and surreal yet gothic and macabre world of black magic among us by four people they're all-too familiar with — Heather, Lindsay, Dawn and even Amy, who reveal that they've recently discovered they're witches and each have their own motivations for Gwen, Zoey and Sky.

It's here that a series of events end up launched and put into effect which leads to Heather, Lindsay, Dawn and Amy accidentally sending themselves into the future where Heather and Lindsay discover they both marry Gwen, Dawn discovers she marries Zoey and Amy discovers she marries Sky, Gwen, Zoey and Sky learn they're witches too and Heather attempts to take over Halloween and spread her own tricks and treats, ultimately leading to a disaster of epic proportions.

NOTES/TRIVIA/DETAILS:

• Heather is the one who starts out as the main antagonist of the limited series, alongside Amy who serves as the secondary one. Only for them to become redeemed heroes who finally realize the errors of their ways (just like Sky) and they're both replaced with a surprise appearance from Courtney who in a case of subverting expectations done right, is a full-blown irredeemable bad guy who tries to kill Gwen only to be killed by Heather who comes in and saves Gwen.

• This is where the influences come in — The Nightmare Before Christmas with its atmosphere, Gwen's kidnapping and Heather's villain song, Monster House for its genuinely scary and intense horror edge, Amazing Stories with exploring the wonder and amazement of the supernatural and fantastical, W.I.T.C.H. (TV Series) for its balance of teen related problems and fantasy and the Haunted Mansion ride for the creep factor.

• The mini-series ends up establishing two things with the Total Drama series — 1). pretty much everyone thinks it's a staged reality show and all of the insane things that happen on the series is fake and 2). there's two different continuities with the original continuity being Island, Action, World Tour, Revenge Of The Island, All-Stars, Pahiktew Island, The Ridonculous Race and now Blair Raven Witches. Meanwhile, the second reboot continuity is Island and the two season reboot.

• It will also be established that two other shows most think are set in the same universe as Total Drama — 6teen (of course) and even Stoked (if anyone even remembers that) are just shows in the Total Drama Universe basically.

• There will however be one little easter egg that does heavily imply a shared universe with Total Drama — when Lindsay is looking through her phone for how to take a pitch perfect selfie, she sees and takes interest in an app called Flaw Fader, the same dangerous and horrifying app that appeared and played a major role in an episode of a children's horror anthology series Creeped Out.

Hi! I just saw your post on DS2 and I have a HUGE problem with that movie, and it mainly comes down to the fact that it fails (in my mind) to properly explore character development. To explain what I mean a bit more, the MCU is a franchise and that franchise is literally built on its characters. I mean, it’s not just “MOM” it’s “Doctor Strange in the MOM.” So, a lot of people are coming to see DS and Wanda and their interactions. DS had a pretty lacklustre motivation and I honestly didn’t buy his role as a mentor with how little time it took for him to let go of his arrogance, but with Wanda especially her arc is so neglected just so shel’ll play the villainous role. They set up this whole narrative for her in Wandavision ending with her grief and hope, but then just skips to her being utterly insane. This is probably even worse for people who haven’t watched the series and just witness her going from the end of Endgame to fully evil. It wouldn’t be such a problem if Marvel didn’t pride itself on its character driven narratives but it DOES. Rewrites or no, I felt that the reason the film felt so soulless was that it prioritised fan service and wider MCU connectivity over the thing that brings the audience and drives the narrative in the first place: the characters.

YES UGH. And it's frustrating because it kind of forces people to get the streaming so they know what happened in the "in between"? like, Marvel shows should have NEVER been about "solving movie level issues" more just like about a singular character and their adventures. Like Agents of Shield and Daredevil were (to my knowledge, I haven't seen either). So yeah, to some rando, MOM just... seemed really weird? But even then ALL the characterizations were SO OFF and, as I mentioned, Doctor Strange became a secondary character in his own movie. It's like they wanted someone else for a villain and someone higher up said, NAW let's make Wanda the villain and oop how about this fan service and let's introduce a character who's powers are SO ridiculously OP'd that it changes the power scaling of the most powerful sorcerer in the MCU.

Don't get me wrong, I liked America, and I liked the Illuminati, BUT they should have NEVER been introduced in a Doctor Strange Movie? Like... it's weird.

I dunno, I'm seeing theories going around now that they're setting up Doctor Strange to be the big bad of Secret Wars instead of Kang, so I don't know anymore. I just... wanted a continuation of DS1, and Mordo should have been a bad guy in DS2.

DS2 just... is so convoluted and not even a DS movie? I didn't hate the movie, I just... felt it WASN'T a DS movie, like the first one was. It felt like it was just there to introduce the Multiverse in the most convoluted and confusing way possible.

And WandaVision, even though I didn't really like it as much as everyone else apparently, did a good job of showing Wanda's trauma. I just feel that DS2 really undid all that and just... made her a villain to sell toys because everyone loves her.

Ugh. Then again, apparently my tastes are crap because the only Marvel shows I enjoyed all the way through were Moon Knight, Hawkeye and FatWS, so what do I know. Loki was alright until they fucking shoehorned that horrid romance into it. Feh.

Copying and pasting my insane Twitter rambles about Mandricado's interlude and how it lines up damn near perfectly with Niyocardo lore

Niyo was ecstatic when she was able to summon Mandricardo again bc ofc she would be. He was someone who she formed such a close bond to in such a short amount of time. But so much meaningful interaction happened between them in that time.

She got to know him on a rather intimate level and vice versa. And he's (partially) the reason she's able to continue the Lostbelt with new vigor. Mandri was what Niyo needed at the time and while the two were friends yes, they began to blossom into more until he'd leave her

to protect her. The image of his back and shield shattering before her in a sense traumatizing her. Its not like last time. She knew he'd leave her and they in a sense did get a goodbye but not the way she had hoped. But now he's back with her.

Again, she knows Mandricardo. And he's once again gotten to know her. In a sense they're soulmates so it would be natural. But because Niyo knows Mandri, she doesn't want to originally tell him about his self in Atlantis. She knows he'll compare himself to... HIMSELF.

But of course he'd find out. And what she doesn't want to happen happens. She's aware that some of the affection she has for him is built of the pieces of someone who is now gone and she wants to be better and love the Mandricardo she has officially summoning for him.

And thankfully that not hard, bc in the end, Mandricardo is Mandricardo. Falling in love with him again is easy. He makes it easy. But how Mandri views it is that him accomplished multiple things only he could dream of. Again, he and Niyo are basically soulmates so falling for her again was no problem but he doesn't feel he's good enough. Not deserving to be even friends with her. The other him earned that right. But what of him? (In his eyes) He's not that guy. Not the person who she needed most.

The two are sorting through their feelings. Niyo trying to come to terms with while Mandri is Mandri to her, she doesn't want him to just be picking up the emotional baggage the one from Atlantis left behind.

HER Mandri doesn't have those precious memories and it hurts her. But she's ready and willing to make new ones. To prove that them meeting was not a coincidence and that it was ment to be. But she can still read him to know he's got a lot on his mind too.

Mandri holding jealousy for himself. He feels ridiculous for it but he feels it nonetheless. I know I go "oh yeah! Niyo and Mandri are married" all the time. And they are. Don't get me wrong. But it takes them a while to get there and its not just them picking up the pieces from where Atlantis leaves off. She's happy to have him back but she's so protective of him. She doesn't want to lose him again. Yes he could just be summoned back but it's about the memories. She feels it's one sided and that she's the only one who has these feelings and anxieties. Because just like how he can disappear and come back, he could be summoned and not fall in love with her again. It happened with Robin. Why couldn't it happen with him too. And she doesn't want to come off as too clingy and drive him off (even tho he's smittened)

This interlude for then takes place after Lb5 but before lb5.5. Niyo and Mandri are re-establishing their connection and bond but awkwardly tip toeing around the fact that they're in love with each other. Mandri feels... the feeling presented while Niyo feels bad that she might be causing him pain. Especially when she can see it in his actions and face. But they can't help but want to be around each other still. Mandri still wants to be her knight, and Niyo wants that too. But she's so scared and protective rn...

There's an event featuring Robin, Dantes and (my) Dumuzid where Mandri and Niyo are finally able to sort these feelings out. And they can finally start being happy with each other until 5.5 happens and Mandri gets worried shitless. Popping in and out of the control room while constantly pacing about. He's hear about Douman and how he tortures the mind. And he's terrified for Niyo bc he knows how she can be and what her mental state is. So when lb6 rolls around he's going and not taking no for an answer. He needs to be there with her.

But despite her worries for him she lets him come. Only for them to be separated and her worries persist. But they still feel each other's connection and I won't get too much into that right now. That for later.

This was SUPER long winded and I probably strayed off from whatever point I was trying to make lol but I'm just so happy this Interlude aligned with so much of the stuff I already wrote for them. Like I know this wasn't just for me, lots of people enjoyed this too. And anyone who loves Mandricardo a lot had probably come up with similar hcs too but just- It just feels nice feeling validated with my hcs and ship. This genuinely made my day by a lot and filled me with lots of feelings.
