Meditation is the habitual process of training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts. The popularity of meditation is increasing as more people discover its many health benefits. You can use it to increase awareness of yourself and your surroundings. Many people think of it as a way to reduce stress and develop concentration.
Top Reasons Why People Should Meditate: People also use the practice to develop other beneficial habits and feelings, such as a positive mood and outlook, self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns and even increased pain tolerance.  At the present time people meditate for different reasons: to feel calm, to diminish stress or pain, to get through a crisis, or to engage in a spiritual practice. We might approach meditation for specific reasons, and then discover that we want to attain a different level of consciousness or a deeper, more gratifying state of relaxation.

day 4: the primal instincts of wolves
you know those days when you just can't get ahead of the game, yet you never feel frantically lost? yep, today was one of those—hence, the late post. the epitome of this is when you have one bathroom at work and it's a dog fight to get a solitary moment to pee. and every time you give up waiting in the endless line, someone else sneaks in there? oh wait, AND you're on a juice cleanse so all you DO is pee. i could have written a post during the time i dedicated to bathroom breaks today.
if there is any excuse for my blog post coming so late today, that will certainly do. but here i am, dedicating my subway riding time to writing.
day four was different, chemistry-wise in my body. it's hard to say how, but it just felt different. my energy level was pretty solid, my focus was as sharp as a functioning non-diagnosed a.d.d. person's can be (which i think is actually quite productive, just not in the conventional way). but i couldn't quite put my finger on what my body was craving. still can’t.
Tumblr media
midday meal: watermelon juice (yum!) and a brazilian with strawberries and cashews (yum for the first half, then um....)
juice. juice. juice. for those of you who come here looking for specifics on what i drink, when i drink it, and how much i weigh at the beginning/end of each day, you'll find my reports lacking. instead, you'll hear more about what i think of a juice, my body's chemical/psychological/physical reaction to it, as well as my mental musings during this long term fast.
today, our founder marcus antebi paid me a visit at jp5 (or shall I say, came to touch base on the 537,593.69 projects we are working on) and he brought up a few interesting points. firstly, he believes this detox period will change the way i think about food. my senses will sharpen up and i will notice things I didn't before. his analogy was along the lines of a wolf in the woods, able to smell food from far away, and acting on the hunting impulse. we humans have become so far removed from that primal instinct that we do not hardly notice the effect our diet has on our instincts. sure, you can smell the street meat and roasted peanuts from a mile away in new york city, but that’s because there’s one every four feet.
Tumblr media
side note: as i was writing this post on the subway, i captured a great chow down session of two post-work commuters, independent from each other. both were mowing down on corner grub and i couldn’t help but wonder whether i will ever be satiated with street meat again.
after transitioning my diet to about 79.87% vegan a few months back, i lost my taste for rotisserie chicken, which i had previously coveted. all i had the taste for was the skin, but the rest was thoroughly unappealing. i think the inability to be satiated by a carcass imbued with spices and god knows what else, was most likely triggered by my transition to more efficient, vegan, raw foods. part of me is kinda sad, but then the other part not so much, because i picked up a more acute taste for things like raw oysters and sushi. i can't wait to get back to oyster bar and taco fridays at chelsea market with my work buddies. i better not lose my taste for that!
if that happened before the kamp kleanse, my question is what will happen after?
marcus’ second notable point today: when i told him i was in limbo about what to eat and wanted to make sure i was drinking the right combination of juices, he kicked back with "listen to your body and drink what it wants." according to him, my body will shift to wanting more savory tastes as i get deeper into the cleanse, which makes me wonder because i have yet to get strong hankerings for sweet juices. so far all i crave is tomato gazpacho. and oh boy, do i listen to my body. i’ve had one every day so far.
i am now home and in bed, drinking an herbal cleanse tea for the first time. i shall report back on the effects of this little brew tomorrow.
