So why isn't this checkmate option being discussed far and wide at the moment? It just so happens that Jack Smith is in the process of releasing the evidence against donald j. trump and his classified documents Espionage Act violations at mar-a-lago. Also, American companies are already laying people off, firing them, advising employees there'll be no holiday bonuses or raises, and Americans are learning the hard truth about trump's insane tariff policies. Shortly after Roe vs. Wade is restored as the law of the land, the United States will inaugurate and swear in the 47th President of the United States, Kamala Harris. Anyone who wants that joyus happy ending to the endless nightmare of the donald trump saga simply needs to contact Chuck Shumer and Hakeem Jeffries and explain why donald trump is in violation of federal law for being an insurrectionist attempting to hold office without first having his disqualification removed via a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress.

Last Sunday, Trump told his sycophantic army of brownshirts at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference that Musk is “not going to be president…I’m safe. You know why he can’t be? He wasn’t born in this country,”

That’s a weird, random aside in his hour-long verbal diarrhea masquerading as a speech. Elon Musk is not the President even though he barks orders via Twitter to Republican leaders and they immediately bend their knees and grovel in obedience. Why would anyone assume the richest man on Earth who spent $250 million to get Trump elected would be President even as he’s spending his Thanksgiving at Mar-A-Lago, dining with Trump and billionaires such as Zuckerberg and Bezos, taking calls with Ukrainian President Zelensky, and having conversations with Putin? Why would anyone believe that Trump, an aging, declining man, has ceded his power to un-elected Musk, who has been tasked to cut government spending as co-chair of DOGE alongside another billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy? I mean, Donald Trump is not a Beta Reek and cuck to Alpha Elon Musk. A plurality of Americans didn’t vote for an immigrant who allegedly overstayed his student visa and took over Tesla. It’s President Trump, not President Musk. This is just a silly, immature, ridiculous, and outlandish joke intended for mockery. Exactly. And it is working. Despite being born on third base with silver and golden spoons of wealth and whiteness stuffing privilege in his gluttonous mouth, Donald Trump remains one of the most insecure, weak, fickle, venal, and vindictive men on Earth. Behind his layers of orange flab is a glass chin resting on a corpulent body barely supported by even weaker knees. He attempts to hide his numerous defects by performing as a blustering strongman. It’s all projection, all the time, just like with his MAGA base. They can dish it, but they can’t take it. They dispense cruelty, but they demand civility. They attack safe spaces but retreat to their right-wing cocoons as soon as they’re criticized.

Mockery and ridicule have been some of the most effective and useful weapons throughout time to dismantle an emperor’s armor and cut down and reveal the fragile, weak man they so desperately try to hide. “Behind the façade of their omnipotence, most strongmen are brittle and insecure personalities. They don’t mind being called evil, but being ridiculed is a different matter,” writes Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a scholar on dictators and authoritarians. She cites an example of a man who named his pet rabbit Mussolini and introduced him at a bar in fascist Italy. The regime arrested him and put him in confinement for a year. Graphic artist Guillo Bastias was sent to jail for “extremism” after he drew a caricature of Chilean dictator Pinochet as Louis XIV. Ben-Ghiat says Tim Walz’s initial attack on MAGA and Trump was in a similar vein to these men and completely unnerved MAGA, who were fine being called racist and evil but couldn’t fathom - even for a second - being ridiculed and mocked as “weird.”

Unfortunately, Democrats took atrocious advice from corporate consultants who sought the mythical “centrist” and abandoned these lacerating attacks towards the end of the election cycle. They instead opted for a neutered, “civil” debate performance in which Walz found common ground with JD Vance. Gone were the “couch” jokes and the “weird” digs. Well, how did that work out?

Thankfully, Democrats seem to have found some semblance of a spine with elected officials openly referring to Musk as “President” after he almost nuked a bipartisan spending deal to keep the government open. If they are students of history, they’d be wise to go full-court press with mockery, ridicule, and humor from here on out especially as Trump and MAGA continue on their path to creating a right-wing authoritarian utopia for white Christian men actively seeking to bring about the Rapture. But, I don’t trust the establishment or the Democrats, and neither should you. I’d rather put my faith in the people. We can’t outsource our democracy and freedom to people who choose civility and restoration over justice and reform. Let’s take a lesson from “the uprising in the bottle” blueprint unleashed by the Serbian youth movement, Otpor, used to overthrow genocidal leader Slobodan Milosevic. They intentionally used non-violent mockery to inspire the masses. Their strategy, which was honed from Gene Sharp’s 93-page “From Dictatorship to Democracy,” was so successful it inspired protest movements in the Middle East during the Arab Spring.

We have plenty of examples in American pop culture. Growing up, I loved watching Mel Brooks’ movies and was lucky enough to interview him when I co-hosted Al Jazeera America’s The Stream. Brooks, who grew up in a Jewish community, spent his career mocking Adolf Hitler, a man responsible for killing 6 million Jews. Brooks wasn’t a politician. He didn’t have an army or billions of dollars. Brooks said, “The only weapon I’ve got is comedy.” He feels one of his lifelong jobs is “to make the world laugh at Adolf Hitler.”

I also loved watching Bugs Bunny cartoons as a kid. If you recall, Bugs is always trying to chill and mind his business, but violent, gun-toting hunters like Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam kept chasing him. Instead of losing his temper and sweating like Daffy Duck, Bugs employed wise cracks instead and used their traps against them. Bugs called Fudd a “poor little nimrod,” which completely reversed the image of the biblical hunter to modern audiences as a word that is now synonymous with a buffoon.

The rest of us don’t have crypto, defense contracts, shows on corporate media, or access to billionaires. But each of us can resist in our small ways to a wanna-be “dictator for a day.” We can all choose to refuse to obey. When Trump and his minions say kneel, we can be like Bartleby the Scrivener, and reply, “I prefer not to.” And like Bugs and Mel Brooks and youth movements who stood up to dictators in the past, we can also throw in a carefully barbed joke at the end to mock and undress the Emperors who are wearing diapers underneath a cheap suit and red tie.

Wajahat Ali nails it: mockery is the best tool to combat fascism and authoritarianism. The Harris/Walz campaign early on understood this, but wrongly abandoned that tack.

Given all the elements involved, there can be no certainties about how the new world order will evolve, only scenarios. So here are five possibilities.

A new great power bargain: Trump’s transactional nature, his determination to avoid war and his contempt for democratic allies leads the US to strike a new grand bargain with Russia and China. The US tacitly grants Russia and China spheres of influence in their regions. America concentrates on asserting dominance in its own region — pushing around Mexico and Canada, and seeking to take back the Panama Canal and gain control over Greenland. Trump forces a peace deal on Ukraine without accompanying security guarantees. Sanctions against Russia are relaxed and Putin is welcomed to Thanksgiving dinner at Mar-a-Lago. A possible bargain with China would involve the easing of American tech restrictions and tariffs on Beijing, in return for Chinese purchases of American goods and sweetheart deals in China for US companies such as Tesla. Trump would also signal his lack of interest in fighting to defend Taiwan. US allies in Europe and Asia would be left scrambling to provide for their own defence in a new atmosphere of insecurity.

War by accident: The western allies have a trade war with each other. Political instability spreads in Europe, with the rise of populist forces sympathetic to both Trump and Putin. A ceasefire is agreed in Ukraine — but there is widespread fear in Europe that Russia will resume hostilities at some point. Trump himself repeatedly calls into question America’s willingness to defend its allies. China, Russia or North Korea — or some combination of these powers — decide to take advantage of western disarray by launching military action in Asia and Europe. But they miscalculate. Asian and European democracies fight back, and eventually the US gets drawn into the conflict, as happened twice in the 20th century.

Anarchy in a leaderless world: The US, China, Russia and the EU avoid direct conflict. But Trump’s America First policies on trade, security and international institutions create a leadership vacuum. Economic growth is depressed across the world by Trump’s trade wars. Civil conflicts in countries such as Sudan and Myanmar intensify. The UN is debilitated by big power rivalry and is powerless to intervene. Instead conflicts are fuelled by competing regional powers that are seeking advantage and resources. More countries such as Haiti slide into violent anarchy. Refugee flows to the west increase. Populist parties, contemptuous of liberal democracy, flourish in an atmosphere of social and economic insecurity.

Globalisation without America: The US retreats behind tariff walls and leaves the World Trade Organization. Prices rise in America and goods get more shoddy. The rest of the world responds to American autarky by accelerating economic interdependence. The EU ratifies its new trade deal with Latin America and signs new agreements with India and China. Europe also opens its market to Chinese electric vehicles and green tech, in return for the Chinese setting up factories across the EU and restraining Russian aggression against Europe. The global south’s integration with the Chinese economy deepens further and the Brics gain new members and influence. The use of the dollar as the global currency declines.

America First succeeds: Trump’s faith in the irresistible nature of American power is vindicated. Investment is driven to the US, increasing America’s lead in tech and finance. The Europeans and Japanese sharply increase spending on their own defence and this is enough to deter Russian and Chinese aggression. American tariffs dramatically reduce Chinese growth, sending the Chinese system into crisis. The Iranian regime is finally felled by some combination of military, economic and domestic pressure. Trump’s prestige soars at home and abroad. American liberals are cowed into silence and some of Trump’s enemies are jailed. The stock market hits a new high.

The reality of the next four years is likely to be some strange amalgam of all of the above scenarios, plus several other unforeseen developments. As the Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci, writing during the late 1920s, famously put it: “The old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.”

And boy was Elon — the world's richest man and Trump's new efficiency czar — having a great time, howling like a hyena at Trump's jokes and slobbering praise on the man who would be king. Having the world's richest guy as your buddy has it's upside, for sure. But from the peanut gallery it's hard to tell who's benefitting more from the unnatural symbiosis. Elon gets the much needed spotlight and the ego strokes of being the big guy's unofficial financier. Trump, on the other hand, gets money and the prestige of playing puppet master to the guy who's ego is second only to his. The big question is, how long can two giant egos inhabit the same biosphere. If there is one thing Trump can't handle it's being upstaged. Musk, on the other hand, needs attention so bad that it's only a matter of time before Trump will have to take him down to size. GLORY TO “BLACK FRIDAY, CYBER MONDAY”

Like Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone. Like it or not, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are now part of our Christmas holiday lexicon, right along with Santa Claus, decking the halls and jingle bells. But wait, what does Santa Claus have to do with the birth of Jesus the Christ, let alone Cyber Monday. Santa is a tradition that may have started with St. Nicholas who gave gifts to children in A.D. 280 in what is now Turkey. St. Nick didn't show up in the New World until 1773 and slowly evolved into Santa Claus who rides around the globe in an airborne sleigh delivering all kinds of presents. Traditions don't necessarily have to have anything to do with anything: We've always done that so we have to keep doing it. Now, in this country, anyway, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are knocking on tradition's door. Black Friday was coined as the day when retailers broke out of red ink. But like Cyber Monday it has become an excuse to sell stuff. This, of course, is all in the name of Christmas shopping, which is supposed to be about the celebration of Christ. Only 20 shopping days left! In the spirit of giving we have to buy stuff and more stuff. What would Jesus, the champion of the poor, make of our Christmas season. Luke 12:13 — “Be careful to guard yourselves from every kind of greed. Life is not about having a lot of material possessions.” Feliz Navidad.

Post script — That's a wrap for another week here at Smart Bomb where we keep track of Druids so you don't have to. Born from the ancient Irish Celts, Druids don't observe Christmas, they celebrate the Winter Solstice on or around Dec. 21. You know, when they days begin to grow longer. It's also known as Yule and Midwinter, a day sacred to Sun Gods. According to The Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids, “Although the Bible indicates that Jesus was born in the Spring, it is no accident that the early Church chose to move his official birthday to the time of the Midwinter Solstice – for it is indeed a time when the Light enters the darkness of the World, and we see again the building of Christianity on the foundations of earlier belief.” Merry Stonehenge. No Wilson, I don't think we qualify as Jack Druids, although it does have a ring to it. The Ethiopian Christian Orthodox Church doesn't celebrate Christmas either. Perhaps the oldest Christian denomination does, however, observe the holiday Timkat on Jan. 19-20 — the celebration of the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan. The joyous occasion is the biggest festivity of the year in the majority Christian African nation but does not include gift-giving — no Black Friday, no Cyber Monday, no Santa Claus. But if you're not looking forward to the inauguration of Trump on Jan. 20, it wouldn't be a bad place to be.

Well shucks Wilson, the holiday season is in full swing. It's not all shopping, of course. There is singing and lights and eggnog and some people even go to church. There Were Turkey Day Tariffs For Unpardonable trump Turkeys At Mar-a-Lago...

It's been all over social media that trump voters were finally trying to start researching the truth about trump tariffs AFTER they voted for him. Thankfully, I found this visual trump Thanksgiving tariffs explainer over on Bluesky. The red text is my edit.

To further illustrate and define a Trump Tariff, but as a live entertainment experience, after this traditional Thanksgiving meal, donald trump and elon musk hosted a traditional post-meal sing-and dance-a-long of the Village People's Y.M.C.A., but as a Toy Story Sid's room reenactment; where during the Y.M.C.A chorus, donald played the part of Woody activating Buzz Lightyear's karate chop action by smacking/hitting elon on the back repeatedly, and elon smiled awkwardly and looked back at donald like, "WTH?!?!", while he made only the "Y" of his arms repeatedly for all of the Y.M.C.A. letters.

Next up on Mar-a-Lago's traditional holiday entertainment schedule, the crowd favorite sing-and-dance-a-long to Vanilla Ice's retro hit: "Ice, Ice, Baby", while they all laugh about how clever they are and fantasize about engaging in ethnic cleansing of all non-white people in the U.S. with ICE and the U.S. military...

Trump Tariff: When you pay way too much for insultingly low quality & quantity. One of the problems that people aren't mainstreaming about the trump tariffs is that in order to bring the prices back down to where they were pre-tariffs, American importers are going to have to reduce product quality and quantity in direct proportion to the level of the tariff. Food items are going to be massively shrunk in quantity if the external suppliers aren't willing to devalue their brand by reducing quality. Non-food items are going to be so cheaply-made that they're going to either arrive damaged/defective, or they'll break much faster, require far more money to maintain those items in people's lives, and result in massive increases in all manner of solid waste, recycling, and microplastics environmental problems.
