LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Elon Musk's Boring Company has been fined more than $112K for safety violations by the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration at the Vegas Loop underground tunnel last summer. According to the OSHA inspection, about 15 to 20 workers were injured while working at the tunnel in the span of two months. The inspection report alleges a chemical mixture inadvertently went into the skin of between 10 to 15 workers causing rashes and burns. The report goes on to say no showers were available for workers sprayed by the hazards. OSHA also found there was no personal protective equipment provided to protect workers against the chemicals.

Tens of thousands of Las Vegas hotel workers fighting for new union contracts set a strike deadline Thursday, threatening major disruptions at more than a dozen resorts that could coincide with the Strip's inaugural Formula 1 races later this month. The Culinary Workers Union said about 35,000 members whose contracts expired earlier this year could walk off the job if deals aren't reached by Nov. 10 with casino giants MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment and Wynn Resorts. Formula 1's Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend is scheduled to begin Nov. 15 with an opening ceremony and is expected to bring thousands of people to the Strip. Nevada's largest labor union, with about 60,000 members statewide, hasn’t gone on strike in decades. A walkout would be the latest in a series of high-profile labor unrest actions around the country — from walkouts in Hollywood to UPS' contentious negotiations that threatened to disrupt the nation’s supply chain — and would follow hospitality workers walking off the job last month at Detroit's three casinos, including MGM Grand Detroit.

The original strike was supposed to take place on Friday. About a half-dozen resort / casinos still hadn't reached deals by then, but the union decided to postpone its planned strike to Monday. Then, deals were reached with several of those hotels over the weekend, including with the Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino. Only one major resort hasn't settled with the Culinary Union — Virgin Hotel Las Vegas. But a union spokesperson said it expects a resolution on a new contract in a few weeks. The Culinary Union says it’s proud of what it has been able to achieve, calling their new five-year contract with all employers “historic.”

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Culinary and Bartenders Union, which represents more than 50,000 Las Vegas hospitality workers, met with MGM Resorts International Tuesday. “We want a great contract, and we’re willing to fight and do whatever it takes up to a strike to get it,” said Ted Pappageorge, Secretary-Treasurer of the Culinary Union. “So, we’re going to negotiate this week, and we’ll make our decisions when we sit down with our members. And unfortunately, I believe there’s a good potential for a strike, but we will continue to negotiate.” It was the first of three scheduled contract negotiation sessions planned with each of the largest private employers on the Strip. The union will meet with Caesars Entertainment on Wednesday, followed by Wynn Resorts on Friday.
