I am not māori . I have been in love with the māori culture for years now (as well as its 'cousins', but for some reason this one stuck with me), hakas bring me to tears most of the time, and boy do I love listening to that language. I find that culture absolutely beautiful in every possible ways. I am actually currently trying to learn a few words on the Drops app.
Also, I am not a writer or anything, just like to write on my own free time, and I want my main character to be from that culture. I know a a thing or two about it, traditions, etc... from what I can find on māori websites, videos and content creators, but not much more really.
Here is how I see it: māori people use a lot of māori words in their daily life, although I don't know any that could be useful (how is "rā whakanui māmā" going to help), nature is very important in the culture (hence the gods representing different natural elements in the mythology), so I would include kinship with the land and the environment, i don't know a lot about traditions, but if there are any that are/can be done on a daily basis (even something small), I would also include it, as well as some traditional jewellery? (i am thinking of a hei tiki, or at least a pounamu jewellery) so thay can always have a piece of home with them (as the character would not be in Aotearoa). On top of giving the character a māori name and a moko along the way, those are the ideas I have, but I can't really put them into words, since I have no actual knowledge of any of it and even less knowledge about what it's like to be māori.
Please, someone, anyone, if you have any tips to accurately write a māori character, be my saviour.

I am not going to say TLT is about fossil fuels because it's about a lot of things and it's reductive to boil it down to anything, but a society fueled by necromancy/death magic/corpses is reminiscent of our society fueled by and built with petrochemicals (oil, natural gas, plastic), and given that within the necromancy framework the role of the cavalier is to be metaphorically, literally, and/or spiritually consumed, it's interesting that the first cavalier was the planet Earth. This new world is still based on devouring the planet.
Does this make Paul a metaphor for nuclear fusion I'm joking but I suppose the question Alecto must resolve is whether we can escape needing to consume to survive.* And maybe we can't - stop trying to make your carnivorous pets vegan - but can we find a method of consumption that's less destructive?
(Some people may see Paul as that answer but I am a Hater who isn't into ego death.)
#nona the ninth spoilers#nothing in this post is an original thought. I'm just Chewing#and obviously given the increasing emphasis on the characters' Maori heritage#this may come down to a colonialism vs Indigenous knowledge question which....#will be interesting to see Muir tackle as a pakeha person writing Maori characters#this is also the decolonization/unsettling question we face irl#can we abandon our extractive mindset and listen to Indigenous people to treat the land respectfully#the locked tomb#why this

Pipette finally gets a face !!
She’s based on the Maori mythology of the Patupaiarehe (also known as Turahu). These fairy-like beings resemble classic gingers, sporting red hair, pale skin and a fear of light. They live in houses that couldn’t be seen by humans (like bunkers :3) and they are known for their incredible music.
Pipette is of Maori decent on her mother’s side, having been raised with many of the cultural practices in an effort to keep traditions alive in the generations after the apocalypse. On her father’s side, she is one of many redheads in her bunker. Redheads foster a unique ability to produce Vitamin D even with limited sunlight exposure, so their birth was often manufactured. Her father was part of this initiative.
Anyway, here she is: Pipette Turahu, my sweet

hi hi hi hi hi hi i saw ninjago whale shark oc and could not control the questions not forced obvi but tell me everythi g
thank you for a question!! we share the same love for aquatic-themed ocs<33 there's a lot about him, but i'm gonna go with some (mostly combat) facts:
• He is born and raised in Māori culture, altough he is not 100% pureblood. They cherish their roots and practices their traditions a lot. Example on the right, where his "haka" is shown - "traditionally, haka was a customary way to welcome visiting tribes, but it also served to invigorate warriors as they headed into battle. It was a show of physical prowess but also an embodiment of cultural pride, strength, and unity"
• They're pacifist, but when there's no other option, they have mostly defence tactic - he uses elemental powers (minerals) to build up gauntlet and other armory parts. Also tries to immobalize opponent by trapping them in minerals
• Despite their size and quite long tail, Laz is quite swift and agile, using his mass against opponent. Altough they don't use these skills often.
Art requests and asks are open!

Tell me why the Kanan Funko Pop has pale skin and dark blonde/light brown hair???
Every piece of Kanan merch has this colour scheme? Was I hallucinating during the whole show or?
#I Googled it just coz#and all I got was a Reddit thread saying that only “woke agenda” people think he's not white#???#white or not the man is the darkest main character in the show#he's more similar in skin tone to Lando (a black man)#Rex (a Maori man)#and Bail (a tanned/dark-skinned latino man)#if you insist he's white whatever but do you have eyes?#and Star Wars is 95% white whats so bad about having a main character be non-white?#also didn't Filoni literally say that none of the human Ghost crew are white?#star wars#star wars rebels#kanan jarrus

Hi taro! It’s been a while but I was wondering
What’s your oc fear? (Non serious)
My oc is afraid of dogs and waterslides
Heya, pele! Sorry for taking so long to answer this! Quite busy during the weekend! And I'll answer this for ya! If you said NON SERIOUS. You mean like nothing serious? If that's the case then I'll give you these great or funny fears of what my OCs had experienced. Lol.
Tiala -> I haven't thought about what scared Tiala so easily. But there is ONE thing that she's scared of........HER PARENTS. Growing from an island with strict parents. Disciplining and getting oke (means "scolding" in Samoan) all the time. So she's doing her best to not piss them off. And you should know where she get that scolding attitude from when did that to the rookies when THEY did something wrong. Lol. But she is still scared of her parents. (Not in a fearful way but you know...in a funny kind of way.)
Kanoa -> The poor Captain. Same just like Tiala. Since he and his sister grew up from their home. Experiencing and witnessing getting scolded by their parents. So he's also trying his best to not piss them off as well.
Agnes -> She may look like a very happy gal but she can get scared too. So what scared her the most are...her Aunt's scolding her. Yes, we have another person who is scared of getting scolded by their relatives. Since her mom doesn't have the heart to scold her own daughter. Her Aunty (Agnes's mom's older sister) has to fill in the blanks. For sometimes Agnes can be reckless at times.
Nigel -> HATED to be anywhere scary. Like any haunted place. A haunted house, a haunted abandoned hospital, a haunted forest- ANYTHING haunted. He doesn't like the feeling of getting spooked at. And if he did get spooked, you will hear him screaming like a little girl. Lol.
Aelan -> Hadn't thought about her getting scared of. But maybe a mouse. She's not afraid of any creatures but she's afraid of mice. Don't know why. It's just a feeling of how every girl and woman reacted to see that kind of small creature.
Alana -> Mice. Just like her daughter. I guessed her phobia for mice had passed down onto her. The poor woman.
Kapo -> Not afraid of anything. Not even DEATH would scare him. Except ghosts. Back at home is always filled with ghost stories and all. And it freaks the heck out of him. You would try to make that old ghost sound that'll stick his small hair straight up and you will see him either walking away fast or just running. Hahaha!
Callie -> I want this blondie girl to suffer for being like her cocky brother. Soooo....let her be scared of chickens. Afraid of getting plucked on by them. So imagined her being chased by the chickens under THIS sound. THAT would be hilarious! HAHAHAHA!
Rosa -> Only small ugly looking bugs. She finds it quite disgusting to look at. Poison or not. She will whack it with her chancla. Lol.
Koa -> What was this big, strong, Māori man afraid of? Hm? His wife's father? ......well, he WAS the one who took the daughter away and beat her up as well. Soooooo....it's understandable. (And deserves it too as well)
Aroha -> Afraid of heights. She's not really fond of imagining herself falling one day. But as long as there is someone with her. She'll be safe. (Koa, you better catch her because I swear I will be pushing you down instead-)
I think that's everyone that I could think of. So hope you're satisfy with this one! Thank you for sending this to me! Love ya, pele!

New dnd character: Mahuika!
Mahuika is a young barbarian proud of her roots. She is the only genasi in her tribe after several generations, and as such, she is regarded as "the savior of the people" or "the envoy of the gods." She feels the responsibility to protect her people, but she does not shy away from the titles that have been bestowed upon her over the years. She is confident and energetic, always ready for battle but also considers peaceful solutions as the first option. She loves nature and believes that we are all one with the elements, though her affinity for fire is very evident.
