it’s like. for a guy who is such an active, gleeful participant in fucking shit up. like, the number one thing he wants to do is be at the forefront of when things get messy. he wants his face plastered on it, he wants to be the one who gets to hurt everyone, he wants to make sure everyone, and especially the doctor, sees him doing it. to then have the drums also there, always there, so loud that they’re all he can think about when he’s dying, that he doesn’t know what he is without them. there’s a powerlessness at the core of it. this thing that was done to him as a child, in secret, that no one ever believed him about, that he doubted being real despite it constantly ringing in his ears. it just won’t go away. it can’t go away. he can conquer earth and the doctor and he can’t make it go away. there is no longer a version of him that doesn’t have this violation woven through every part of his life.
it really is just horrifying.
#it gets to me. it really does.#because he’s the master. this is his whole thing. he has a catchphrase and all. he’s the master. you obey him.#but this is. its at the core of him now. and he can’t control it and he can’t undo it and it’s just there. it’s there.#it is hurting him and he can’t escape it. and it’s horrifying.#AND IT MAKES HIM. IT MAKES HIM INTO SOMETHING OTHER TIMELORDS REGARD AS DISEASED. GOD SORRY I CANT GET OVER THE WORDING THERE.#HE’S. GOD. HE DIDN’T EVEN DO ANYTHING!!!!! HE HAS DONE SO MUCH AND SO MANY TERRIBLE THINGS BUT THIS ISN’T HIS FAULT. ITS THE ONE THING#THAT JUST ISN’T ON HIM. IT WAS DONE *TO* HIM. HE WAS A KID. HE HAD NO CHOICE. AND THIS IS THE THING THAT MAKES HIM DISEASED.#okay. okay. so normal about it. god fuck im.#doctor who#the master#simm!master

hi! furry identified. would you like some dd fursona headcanons? yes you would
reynauld is a border collie (farm dog!!), dismas is a rat, paracelsus is a raven, audrey is a crow, william is an irish wolfhound himself and it's like a goofy and pluto situation, junia is a unicorn, sarmenti is a kea (those insanely intelligent birds who cause problems on purpose, who are even nicknamed "the clown of the alps"), and i think baldwin deserves to be fancy and be a gryphon, though he lost many of his feathers to his illness and never regrew them, so he binds his atrophied wings beneath his armor and hides his eagle traits to instead show himself as merely a lion instead, to not be followed by the pride inherent to being the creature dubbed king of the sky and land
and also there's the potential for bird mating dances for flirting, you've surely seen the birds of paradise videos
AWW I WAS GOING TO DOODLE ALL OF THESE BUT MY ART FILE GOT LOST... OH WELL im not redoing these.........
i love the idea of audrey being a crow and paracelsus a raven.. they match !!! 😭😭❤ sarmenti also being a funny little bird is so amusing to me because i never know what species to portray him as (i always picked oppossum or fox but i felt the latter was too popular and the former too off character) maybe he can give some of his feathers to baldwin.. prompted if he ever reveals to him about who he is
reynauld being a farm dog is SO big brained to me, i dont know why but it is, it fits him so much
#[ask and be awnsered]#i do not know why i mistook keas for kakapos theyre both fat and small pssitaciformes from new zealand i guess#i have some unorthodox ideas for designs but not many. i still not sure if paracelsus would been a scottish fold or a barn owl -#(both controlling rat populations and managing diseases) and bot hare very cute!!#i am just sold on leper being a serpent because its where the word 'leprosy' comes from. in greek :3 just a neat lil ref

"We live in a time of great peril. Humanity and the proud achievements of its infancy on earth are in grave danger. Knowledge has outstripped wisdom. We have controlled disease but have not regulated our numbers. We have advanced our understanding in the natural sciences but have not adequately controlled our baser animal instincts. We have begun to accept the rule of law but have limited its application, permitting it to regulate the affairs of individuals and of small political divisions. While we neglect to use it in controlling a major aggression. We have outlawed the use of murder and violence and resolving individual disputes but have failed to develop procedures to peacefully settle conflicts between nations.
The group consciousness of our race is blind and perverse and it is easily distracted by trivia when it should be focused on fundamentals. We are in a critical era. Population pressures are creating political and economic crisis throughout the world. These make more difficult the building of a rational world society.
The most pressing world environment problem is the need to control human numbers. In recent centuries technology and abundant fuels have multiplied humanity far beyond what is prudent or long sustainable. We can foresee the impending exhaustion of certain energy sources and the depletion of mini vital raw materials.
To control our reproduction is crucial. This will require major changes in our attitudes and customs. Unfortunately, the inertia of human habits can be extreme. This is especially true when those for whom custom is a dominant force are uninformed of the need for change.
No person should be brought into the world unwanted and unneeded. No child should be conceived through carelessness.
The need is urgent and should take precedence over other problems, even those relating to national defense. Population control is a global problem. Overcrowding human beings in conditions of squalor and ignorance is dehumanizing."

On asking Chat GPT the difference between water management and sanitation between the America and Europe:
While it's true that many Indigenous cultures in the Americas had sophisticated systems for water management and sanitation, it's important to note that these systems were often region-specific and may not have been applicable or feasible in other regions. Additionally, Europeans had a different set of cultural and technological priorities when it came to urban planning and infrastructure development.
In many European cities, the focus was on building large cathedrals, fortifications, and other monumental structures, rather than investing in extensive water supply and sanitation systems. The lack of clean water and sanitation infrastructure in European cities contributed to the spread of disease and poor hygiene practices.
Furthermore, the loss of knowledge and expertise in engineering and infrastructure development after the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 CE also contributed to the lack of running water in Europe during the medieval period. While some water systems were developed in certain European cities during the Middle Ages, they were often limited in scope and did not reach the wider population.
Overall, the reasons for the lack of running water in Europe during the medieval period are complex and multifaceted, and cannot be solely attributed to climate or cultural differences.
#chat gpt#chat bot#history#europe#america#americas#ok so what has changed TT#Europe was focused on building cathedrals and not water sanitation or management#and thus contributed to the spread of disease and poor hygiene mangement#and most of the religious controls are still focused on the church#and many do not tax the church#it's been 100s of years...#middle ages#water management#water sanitation#anti theist#anti religion#catholic#christian#the church#religion#water#bathing practices#roman#engineering#ancient civilizations#ancient history

Section 1557 is the law that guarantees trans protections in the us. Saying she supports that law is not “not giving a shit about trans rights lol” just because you don’t know to what law she is referring.

The data does not support the assumption that all burned out people can “recover.” And when we fully appreciate what burnout signals in the body, and where it comes from on a social, economic, and psychological level, it should become clear to us that there’s nothing beneficial in returning to an unsustainable status quo.
The term “burned out” is sometimes used to simply mean “stressed” or “tired,” and many organizations benefit from framing the condition in such light terms. Short-term, casual burnout (like you might get after one particularly stressful work deadline, or following final exams) has a positive prognosis: within three months of enjoying a reduced workload and increased time for rest and leisure, 80% of mildly burned-out workers are able to make a full return to their jobs.
But there’s a lot of unanswered questions lurking behind this happy statistic. For instance, how many workers in this economy actually have the ability to take three months off work to focus on burnout recovery? What happens if a mildly burnt-out person does not get that rest, and has to keep toiling away as more deadlines pile up? And what is the point of returning to work if the job is going to remain as grueling and uncontrollable as it was when it first burned the worker out?
Burnout that is not treated swiftly can become far more severe. Clinical psychologist and burnout expert Arno van Dam writes that when left unattended (or forcibly pushed through), mild burnout can metastasize into clinical burnout, which the International Classification of Diseases defines as feelings of energy depletion, increased mental distance, and a reduced sense of personal agency. Clinically burned-out people are not only tired, they also feel detached from other people and no longer in control of their lives, in other words.
Unfortunately, clinical burnout has quite a dismal trajectory. Multiple studies by van Dam and others have found that clinical burnout sufferers may require a year or more of rest following treatment before they can feel better, and that some of burnout’s lingering effects don’t go away easily, if at all.
In one study conducted by Anita Eskildsen, for example, burnout sufferers continued to show memory and processing speed declines one year after burnout. Their cognitive processing skills improved slightly since seeking treatment, but the experience of having been burnt out had still left them operating significantly below their non-burned-out peers or their prior self, with no signs of bouncing back.
It took two years for subjects in one of van Dam’s studies to return to “normal” levels of involvement and competence at work. following an incident of clinical burnout. However, even after a multi-year recovery period they still performed worse than the non-burned-out control group on a cognitive task designed to test their planning and preparation abilities. Though they no longer qualified as clinically burned out, former burnout sufferers still reported greater exhaustion, fatigue, depression, and distress than controls.
In his review of the scientific literature, van Dam reports that anywhere from 25% to 50% of clinical burnout sufferers do not make a full recovery even four years after their illness. Studies generally find that burnout sufferers make most of their mental and physical health gains in the first year after treatment, but continue to underperform on neuropsychological tests for many years afterward, compared to control subjects who were never burned out.
People who have experienced burnout report worse memories, slower reaction times, less attentiveness, lower motivation, greater exhaustion, reduced work capability, and more negative health symptoms, long after their period of overwork has stopped. It’s as if burnout sufferers have fallen off their previous life trajectory, and cannot ever climb fully back up.
And that’s just among the people who receive some kind of treatment for their burnout and have the opportunity to rest. I found one study that followed burned-out teachers for seven years and reported over 14% of them remained highly burnt-out the entire time. These teachers continued feeling depersonalized, emotionally drained, ineffective, dizzy, sick to their stomachs, and desperate to leave their jobs for the better part of a decade. But they kept working in spite of it (or more likely, from a lack of other options), lowering their odds of ever healing all the while.
Van Dam observes that clinical burnout patients tend to suffer from an excess of perseverance, rather than the opposite: “Patients with clinical burnout…report that they ignored stress symptoms for several years,” he writes. “Living a stressful life was a normal condition for them. Some were not even aware of the stressfulness of their lives, until they collapsed.”
Instead of seeking help for workplace problems or reducing their workload, as most people do, clinical burnout sufferers typically push themselves through unpleasant circumstances and avoid asking for help. They’re also less likely to give up when placed under frustrating circumstances, instead throttling the gas in hopes that their problems can be fixed with extra effort. They become hyperactive, unable to rest or enjoy holidays, their bodies wired to treat work as the solution to every problem. It is only after living at this unrelenting pace for years that they tumble into severe burnout.
Among both masked Autistics and overworked employees, the people most likely to reach catastrophic, body-breaking levels of burnout are the people most primed to ignore their own physical boundaries for as long as possible. Clinical burnout sufferers work far past the point that virtually anyone else would ask for help, take a break, or stop caring about their work.
And when viewed from this perspective, we can see burnout as the saving grace of the compulsive workaholic — and the path to liberation for the masked disabled person who has nearly killed themselves trying to pass as a diligent worker bee.
I wrote about the latest data on burnout "recovery," and the similarities and differences between Autistic burnout and conventional clinical burnout. The full piece is free to read or have narrated to you in the Substack app at drdevonprice.substack.com

you ever start reading lenin and feel the most catharsis you've felt as a disabled fuck from a blue collar family at risd?
apologies to all my cutesy art school associates who think anarchism is trendy but it is an unsustainable ideology that actively promotes the destruction of systems that many disabled people could not live without.
you cannot mutual aid into making insulin. you cannot mutual aid chemotherapy. you cannot mutual aid disability out of society. we cannot undo colonialism.
if anarchism was a sustainable fucking ideology, we would still be cavemen. what supplants your revolution? basement raves and ketamine, or solidarity with the people mommy and daddy said were subhuman?
#im not even going to start on the majority of bourgeois anarchists who just use anarchism as a scapegoat to rape and assault people#ive met too many leftists my age who are anarchists because it is an absolution of their individual crimes#i do oppose the death penalty but also like. acting like social consequences alone (which there never are substantial of anywayas)#are the best way to Solve Rape and Violence#is a bullshit individualist wet dream#and i believe MOST people are inherently good#we live in a society and culture that has evolved to encourage the destruction of others#for self sustainability#capitalism churns out more and more numbed fucks#but i also cannot say for a fact that EVERY human is good at heart#if that was true capitalism would've never fucking happened#we cannot make assumptions on anarchism and lawlessness based on what we want to remove#we must also understand what the consequences of lawlessness lead to#its capitalism btw#without an actual palpable threat to your well being “holding others accountable!!!” is utterly meaningless for people as a whole#if your idea of individualism and freedom means that some groups of people die regardless of their circumstances or any choices#by things out of their control entirely#then maybe freedom and individualism are not the holy virtues we ascribe them to be.#individualism and freedom are mutated ideas that corrupt the person#in the current age at least#america is a malignant prion disease hellbent on curling up the rest of the world into its hegemony

I genuinely think I'm becoming really normie and on one hand I don't like it but on the other hand I love it and it feels like I'm growing up and moving on idk. Like I'm working consistently for the first time in my life and I have a goal to work towards and I'm in the process of getting insurance approved for a tandem pump and I'm in love and in relationship FOR OVER A YEAR AND WITH SOMEONE I HAVE BEEN FRIENDS WITH FOR LIKE FOUR YEARS and I bought a car and I have inadvertently turned my sedentary lifestyle around and I am finally learning who I am amd what I do amd how I truly need to and would like to change about myself and I feel like I have all the power in the world to change these things life has overall become much more thrilling to live in, all the annoying and bad stuff aside.
#idk why i cared about so many things i really domt and quite frankly never truly cared about in high school#idk why it took me so long to be comfortable with myself oh wait yes i fid. diabetes made me crazy.#and i still dont have great control quite frankly im kind of bad at it and yeah its totally within my power to change that#but now im in the process of aquiring a pump. and not going to lie the idea of being able to kick back and deal with diabetes at a less#frequent and intensive pace is a really nice thought. it's not going to be perfect but if it can keep my a1c down to 6 or so that#would chsnge my entire life. my entire mwntal and emotional wellbeing would change radically. my attitude and self confidence. my physical#wellbeing as well. like this would undoubtedly radically change my quality of life#anyway lol#i get emotional thinking of mysekf with a pump with drastically better control of my autoimmune disease and man it makes me want to cry lol#i want to be her i dont want to feel sick and i dont want my autoimmune condition influencing my mood and actions anymore i want to be#clearheaded and rational and healthy i want to feel healthy so bad

A new treatment combining ReCET and semaglutide could eliminate the need for insulin in type 2 diabetes, with 86% of participants in a study no longer requiring insulin therapy. The treatment was safe and well-tolerated, and further trials are planned to confirm these results.
Groundbreaking research presented at UEG Week 2024 introduces a promising new treatment approach for type 2 diabetes (T2D) that has the potential to greatly reduce or even eliminate the need for insulin therapy.
This innovative approach, which combines a novel procedure known as ReCET (Re-Cellularization via Electroporation Therapy) with semaglutide, resulted in the elimination of insulin therapy for 86% of patients.
Globally, T2D affects 422 million people... While insulin therapy is commonly used to manage blood sugar levels in T2D patients, it can result in side effects... and further complicate diabetes management. [Note: Also very importantly it's fucking bankrupting people who need it!!] A need therefore exists for alternative treatment strategies.
Study Design and Outcomes
The first-in-human study included 14 participants aged 28 to 75 years, with body mass indices ranging from 24 to 40 kg/m². Each participant underwent the ReCET procedure under deep sedation, a treatment intended to improve the body’s sensitivity to its own insulin. Following the procedure, participants adhered to a two-week isocaloric liquid diet, after which semaglutide was gradually titrated up to 1mg/week.
Remarkably, at the 6- and 12-month follow-up, 86% of participants (12 out of 14) no longer required insulin therapy, and this success continued through the 24-month follow-up. In these cases, all patients maintained glycaemic control, with HbA1c levels remaining below 7.5%.
Tolerability and Safety
The maximum dose of semaglutide was well-tolerated by 93% of participants, one individual could not increase to the maximum dose due to nausea. All patients successfully completed the ReCET procedure, and no serious adverse effects were reported.
Dr Celine Busch, lead author of the study, commented, “These findings are very encouraging, suggesting that ReCET is a safe and feasible procedure that, when combined with semaglutide, can effectively eliminate the need for insulin therapy.”
“Unlike drug therapy, which requires daily medication adherence, ReCET is compliance-free [meaning: you don't have to take it every day], addressing the critical issue of ongoing patient adherence in the management of T2D. In addition, the treatment is disease-modifying: it improves the patient’s sensitivity to their own (endogenous) insulin, tackling the root cause of the disease, as opposed to currently available drug therapies, that are at best disease-controlling.”
Looking ahead, the researchers plan to conduct larger randomized controlled trials to further validate these findings. Dr. Busch added, “We are currently conducting the EMINENT-2 trial with the same inclusion and exclusion criteria and administration of semaglutide, but with either a sham procedure or ReCET. This study will also include mechanistic assessments to evaluate the underlying mechanism of ReCET.”
-via SciTechDaily, October 17, 2024

Note: If it works even half as well as suggested, this could free so many people from the burden of the ongoing ridiculous cost of insulin. Pharma companies that make insulin can go choke (hopefully).

The Great Great Grandmother
Dpxdc Prompt #3
In the Wayne household it was well-known that Alfred Pennyworth's word was law. It was much less well-known the circumstances that their beloved butler had grown up it. Alfred was raised by his paternal grandmother, Danielle "Elle" Pennyworth, née Fenton.
While Danny's obsession with protection led him to stay in Amity Park until every tie he had to the place joined him in the Ghost Zone, Dani's obsession with freedom led her to do anything but stay in the same place.
She moved all over Earth, then to space, then to the realms, and finally to other dimensions. When Dani found herself stuck in a dimension very similar to her own, except a couple hundred years in the past, she knew Clockwork had something to do with it. She wanted to curse him out, her obsession was freedom and Dani did not do well caged.
It turned out to not matter too much because after a year or so trapped in the dimension Dani found herself going by the name Elle Pennyworth with a baby boy on the way.
Time flew by fast and her husband had died, content enough with his life that he didn't leave behind a ghost. Elle was heartbroken, but knew a peaceful death was what he wanted.
Her son had a son himself, Alfred was his name. Elle promised herself she would be the best grandmother she could be. That turned out to be a promise she had to fulfill sooner rather than later.
Her son and his wife had died only a couple of years after baby Alfred was born, disease apparently. It didn't take her long to notice that little Freddie had taken after her more ghostly half.
He was always appearing in places he wasn't supposed to and he was far more empathetic than most any human she had ever met. Elle taught him to control his more inhuman aspects and made sure that he would never forget etiquette.
"Being able to know how people are feeling is easy for those like us," she would tell him, "but knowing how to help those that aren't feeling well whether it be physical, mental, or emotional that's difficult."
"Why do we help them then?" Little Freddie would ask, before he knew the words she had spoken by heart and the answer to his own question was carved into his soul.
"Because difficult means there's something you're fighting for, and helping means that you care."
Alfred would repeat those same words to little Brucie when he was little and to all of his many many children. He would give a small smile as he said it, Granny Elle would love to know how much her great great grandchildren took after her brother.
He couldn't wait for Granny Elle and Great Uncle Danny to meet his many grandchildren. It would be a bit awkward to explain how they both still looked like they were in their teens though. Alfred only kept up the illusion of aging because he hadn't found a good time to tell his family he wasn't as human as they thought.

The Bronx Zoo has just released Flaco's necropsy results.
He was not thriving, as the people championing the ideal of "freedom" claimed.
He was poisoned.
He was sick.
He was suffering.
"Freedom" would have eventually killed him. A building just happened to do it first.
"Postmortem testing has been completed for Flaco, the Eurasian eagle owl that was found down in the courtyard of a Manhattan building a little over a year after his enclosure at the Central Park Zoo was vandalized on February 2, 2023. Onlookers reported that Flaco had flown into a building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on February 23, 2024, and acute trauma was found at necropsy. Bronx Zoo veterinary pathologists determined that in addition to the traumatic injuries, Flaco had two significant underlying conditions. He had a severe pigeon herpesvirus from eating feral pigeons that had become part of his diet, and exposure to four different anticoagulant rodenticides that are commonly used for rat control in New York City. These factors would have been debilitating and ultimately fatal, even without a traumatic injury, and may have predisposed him to flying into or falling from the building. The identified herpesvirus can be carried by healthy pigeons but may cause fatal disease in birds of prey including owls infected by eating pigeons. This virus has been previously found in New York City pigeons and owls. In Flaco’s case, the viral infection caused severe tissue damage and inflammation in many organs, including the spleen, liver, gastrointestinal tract, bone marrow, and brain. No other contributing factors were identified through the extensive testing that was performed. Flaco’s severe illness and death are ultimately attributed to a combination of factors—infectious disease, toxin exposures, and traumatic injuries—that underscore the hazards faced by wild birds, especially in an urban setting."
The naturalistic fallacy kills animals in horrible ways. The romanticism of what humans want to think of as a "free, wild, pure life" cannot be allowed supplant the reality of injury, sickness, and death. Releasing captive animals (or keeping them from being recaptured) because it's "better" for them to suffer untethered than live a healthy, safe, captive life is inhumane and horrific.
Flaco's life didn't have to end in pain, sickness, and suffering.
Flaco's death didn't have to be tragic.
But once the idea of "freedom" entered the chat, Flaco's fate was unavoidable.
