Aporvir: A term for someone whose male and/or male-aligned gender is aligned to qualities or attributes that aren’t masculine, feminine, or gender neutral in nature.
Aporlier: A term for someone whose female and/or female-aligned gender is aligned to qualities or attributes that aren’t masculine, feminine, or gender neutral in nature.
————————————————————
These terms are somewhat based on the already existing term Neuvir, which is similar but is connected to being gender neutral rather than Aporine, an Abinary Allogender quality, and/or any other qualities.
An example of another quality could be one that belongs to someone’s self identity rather than specifically their gender.
The definition for these terms are broad even though they have semi-specific names, so I may add other things to call them later.

Before we call anon rude because let’s see it from their perspective, imagine getting an entire feast to eat. That can be pretty hard to start with so much that’s going on, but if they start with one thing they know they’ll like (aka one character they like) that can be the start for them leaping to other characters to finish the story and the bigger story. I struggle the same way to start book series if I don’t have at least one character that drives me to read it, it’s all about what can be the hook to push them through. Sounds like the anon is neurodivergent (just a guess) so they might genuinely not see it as rude and see it as a solution to even play the game to start with.
Btw absolutely adore the game, the complex and rich characters making them all so unique is amazing. The art is so pleasing to the eyes I love it!! I’m waiting for it all to get out at once so I don’t get too impatient. Shae however interests me the most, which routes will have the most lore for them? Will there be routes that give more lore in general based on decisions you make or do they all share the same amount? (I mean general lore not just Shae lore)
Apologies; we are not trying to accuse any asker of being rude! We are simply explaining our perspective as the developers / are trying to broadly encourage folks to dip their toes into other areas of the story outside of the main route(s) they're interested in, especially considering some routes will be made available sooner than others, and these other routes will likely contain additional scenes/lore of everyone's fave(s) regardless! We want to give each main cast member an equal amount of love (and lore) regardless of their overall popularity, so our goal is not to tut-tut anyone for having strong preferences for one character over the others, but rather to explain that you may be surprised by how much *more* you learn about your preferred characters in the other routes. That's all!
For Shae... Well, they were a foot soldier for one of the worst periods of the War. Lore wise, any other story that touches on the War will likely have content relevant to them and their experiences. ^^
#ask#clotho answers#edit/final note: we got a *few* asks on this subject and will not likely answer all of them for the sake of our followers' dashboards#but we also want to note that part of our encouragements here come from the fact that Flan/Keagan are our most popular characters by a lot#and we want to do what we can to gently nudge folks who may not want to romance the fem / nb characters into checking out their stories#despite not being into them romantically. this is half of why we have platonic routes to begin with#we recognize veterans to the dating sim world may feel less inclined to romance characters that don't align with their irl orientations#this isn't a bad thing. some people steer clear of dating sims altogether because they're aro or just not interested in romance stories etc#but the unintentional side effect of this is it has a chilling effect on developers even in the indie sphere to make less diverse stories#if Flan and Keagan are our most popular characters then they will be our most *profitable* characters in the long run#and as much as we would love to not care about money and just produce the story we want to tell#we live in a society (tm) and need to eat#if at the end of ndm's development we see that 90% of our engagement went toward the boys it is hard to ignore the financial incentive#to redirect our energy toward leaning into the 'tried and true' formula that assures we can buy groceries and make rent#basically what i am candidly saying here is capitalism is pretty bad for creative liberty unless you're already rich / able to self finance#which we are not. and currently none of the core devs make *anything* from ndm#it would be nice if it does turn a profit but that isn't a guarantee - which the team has accepted as a normal risk in game development#anyway this is getting rambly but the Point is that this goes beyond us wanting to make sure all sides of our story are equally appreciated#it is *partly* that - we do want players to experience the entirety of our artwork#but it's not just for our egos - it's so we can keep making art like this#i considered including this in the body of the post but money talk suuucks man#and i don't want anyone to think we're glaring at them in a holier than thou 'ah-ha! you don't want to play maeve's route because she's a#woman!' sort of way because i think that's a reductive way to look at things#people like what they like and there's nothing intrinsically wrong with that#but if you like that we're making a diverse story#with masc routes fem routes and nb routes#even if you don't personally want to romance x or y#it would help us if y'all play the platonic routes#we are trying our very very best to make the fem/nb routes interesting for Everyone so those stories don't get sidelined#and if you don't like them for their own sake - fair enough! can't win em all and we'll deeply appreciate that you tried anyway!

just had a gender feeling that isn't 'awful man-beast-thing' and im like woah where did that come from?
#text#calyx.txt#i know collectively our system has been leaning towards like nonbinary lesbian / woman to the left#but ive always been like. concretely man-aligned. which makes sense due to like. the nature of where i came from as an alter.#so im like hey. hey. what. *turning around* is someone there? stop influencing me. i'll get you for that.

I’ve actually been doing a lot better in terms of my body image lately, but I’ve gotta say- it still hurts like hell to be a fat trans person. I think fat trans people are all heroes because it takes strength for ANY fat person to navigate presentation and gender norms, but it takes a special kind of strength for fat trans people to do that when the validation of our identity by the whole world hinges upon changing your body to appeal more.
it’s a huge landmark for a lot of trans people to pursue various surgeries, but what about the ones whose doctors refuse to give them surgery until they’ve lost weight?
it’s a huge landmark for a lot of trans guys to get their first suit, but what about the ones who can’t find that huge landmark in their size anywhere?
it’s a huge landmark for a lot of trans gals to get their first dress or skirt, but what about the ones who just can’t find one that fits because all the sizes and mannequins are way too thin?
it’s a huge landmark for a lot of trans people to start “passing”, but what about the ones whose passing is contingent upon either hyper performance of gender to a rigidly uncomfortable standard, or simply forcing yourself to change your body?
every trans person deserves their landmarks. it’s really hard for fat trans people but we are doing it, every day, and that’s something that deserves to be celebrated.

bold take we aren’t ready for is that people think they’re trans just because they don’t align with society’s “ideal” gender roles when in fact it’s just their personality. or because of internalized biphobia.
#but we AINT ready for that conversation#you’ll say you don’t wanna wear dresses or paint ur nails once and oh damn you must be a transman#and not because of having a literal actual trans experience#<- not aligned with your !!biological!! gender#people will misread this but like. you can be a biological woman and call urself a girlie and use he/him pronouns I genuinely don’t care#literally I do not care what u do#but there is a thing in noticing!!! where kids or adults realize they don’t align with how the world views their gender#and people say they must be trans#or because they’re straight or gay but . Because they might be butch or flamboyant. they think they HAVE to be trans bc#god forbid they’re just a feminine man or androgynous woman or masculine woman or nb man or person or !!!#anyways.#gender is a spectrum along which anyone can reside#while also feeling in touch with biological gender#(biological gender = sex)#anyways. Hey#bagel talk time#queer discourse#ANOTHER BOLD TAKE: transgender doesn’t exist because GENDER is a spectrum of experience DIFFERENT from sex#you can’t be transGENDER because gender is already a fluid human experince#we’ve just…..put ‘man’ and ‘woman’ into boxes based on gender roles and expectations#you can be transexual tho because that’s literallyyyyy the entire thing. that’s what it is.#<- all said by a person who thought they were transexual because they were experiencing (and still do) behaviors and traits different from#what society expected and HUNDREDS of people told them they were trans#almost went on hormones and changed my body because I was convinced#and that wasn’t the case for me#I use he him they them pronouns because I’m comfortable with them and because I feel masculine and androgynous sometimes#is it apart of the ‘trans’ experience? sure yeah!! 100%#and not everyone feels that way of course. but like. I’m not actually trans.#I just experience fluxes in gender#I’ve had a trans experience through finding myself but I’m not gonna call myself trans because I haven’t changed my body

I would pay exorbitant amounts to see a live action, adult-oriented show with all the agony, heart, and hilarity of ourgoodshadows surrounding queer women pretty pleaseeeee
#yes i know all about the cartoon lesbians they're excellent#but an explicitly queer show geared toward adults about a sapphic relationship would be nice yknow#theres older shows but they dont really align with the vibe i like#plus im a fan of vamps pirates and demons. sue me.#the only adult woman-centric queer show i know with the same sort of fantastical life-or-death will-they-wont-they vibe is utena#which is excellent but theres only so much utena in the world unfortunately#if anyone has any recs please feel free to share im desperate here#because being a lesbian with my main obsessions almost exclusively surrounding masculine queer expression feels lonely sometimes#dont get me wrong masc queer expression is great!#in fact i tend to relate to it more than femme lesbian stories since im butch/genderfluid/whateverthefuck#i just want a show that examines feminine queerness with the same complexity that o/fmd does#and the women get to try to kill eachother as a treat <3#tldr; old man yaoi is great but i also if someone did a old woman yuri romcom i would explode on the spot#um. essay over.#personal

eyeing cassgender very heavily. hmmm. i like that label
#claire talks sometimes#cassgender#i'd best describe my gender as being a woman but in the least feminine way possible#sure i'm a girl but i don't identify with femininity#which is why the idea of being perceived as a man or generally androgynous is a cool feeling#because it means i've succeeded in being as unfeminine as possible#and also the idea of being a he/him woman sounds very cool#but also. like. i don't care if someone sees me as a different gender or perceives me a different way#it's not accurate to me#but it doesn't feel wrong or unpleasant#like yeah i have a gender it just doesn't really matter to me#if that makes sense#which seems to align with cassgender experiences pretty well#we'll see how this goes#gender

I love your bg3 character…. I keep seeing her and going Mm.m big Woman….
Any characterization tidbits you’re thinking about? I’ve really enjoyed reading DWW and I’m CRAVING more thoughts from your head
thank you!! i've been cookin up a little backstory for ratanir. i kind of work backwards. usually i'll get to the end of a game, then pick through retroactively for things i think would be cool or interesting, then make that the character. gloria being as blunt and offputting as she is came as a result of having 3 charisma and failing every persuasion check going, including nick's romance! some ratanir lore under the cut, subject to tweaking and change in the future
for ratanir, i think she's the product of a happy, if unusual, marriage. her father is a human accountant, her (now very elderly) mother was a very successful war general in her time. they became trapped together after both of their camps were blind sided by a raiding party and hit it off. really hit it off. they had ratanir, who took her mother's surname and general habit of never wearing shirts. part custom, part advertisement
when she came of age, she bummed around baldur's gate, doing mercenary work. odd-job to odd-job, picking up tattoos as she went. there's not much of safety in being a sword for hire, but being nearly seven feet tall and hundreds of pounds of muscle means it's a reliable income. it was supposed to be a buffer job until she figured out what she wanted, but she's been doing it for 20 years. her mother doesn't like that she's crushing skulls for pretty bad reasons. her father doesn't like that she's crushing skulls at all.
i think there's something really funny in a berserker barbarian actually having a pretty moderate, even-headed personality. she really isn't all that quick to anger. it's like when professional chefs go home after a hard day of cooking delicious meals and throw something easy in the microwave. save it for the day job, y'know? she's more inclined to let a slight go than pursue it. she's good with animals and kids. pretty popular with the ladies, for obvious reasons, but is too flaky to really make a good girlfriend. of course, then she gets Tadpole'd. it turns out what she wants is 'not to have a brain eating tadpole', so that triggers some growth in her
#ratanir onag#bg3#tav#text post#gloria roche#dead man talking#dead woman walking#thank you! here are my thoughts. no hammer and spoon required#trying to figure out alignment i think. chaotic good?

BinaryMan-aligned
/ or Binary-aligned-man
Being a binary man OR emphasizing connection to conforming binary manhood despite presentation and/or gender nuances. Preferring to identify with binary manhood and be categorized similarly with conforming cis men.
BinaryWoman-aligned
/ or Binary-aligned-woman
Being a binary woman OR emphasizing connection to conforming binary womanhood despite presentation and/or gender nuances. Preferring to Identify with binary womanhood and be categorized similarly with confirming cis woman
** Not the same as just being woman\man aligned, those are more of an umbrella term with different meanings to each that could include this, but this is more specific**
Gender Identity conformity is important especially to most of us binary trans ppl cuz well we just want to be seen as equal and included in the binary category, even if we’re a bit unique because of our experiences, or presentations.
Examples :
- Binary trans or gnc men and women who wants to emphasize being just as equally binary as conforming binary men and women.
- Nonbinary or Multigender folks who’s main identity is binary and heavily prefers to be socialized as that binary gender. They emphasize a binary conforming connection in their gnc identity for whatever reasons.
