Anyways, here are my favorite bears

These are not all species of bears, just my faves. Also, no order cause I can't brink myself to rank these babies. Under the cut cause longpost

Beggining with a lesser known one, the only bear species that exists in south america is the Spectecled Bear (also known as the Andean Bear)

They have this name because of the white/cream markings on their face that can somewhat resemble glasses! As I said before, they're the only south american species of bear and is the last short faced bear alive, and most are found in the Andes. I like them because look at that cute little face and also latino solidarity. Fun fact, Paddington is a specteled bear considering he is from Peru.

Now moving on. She is beauty, she is grace, she is the largest species of bear AND the largest land predator, she is the Polar Bear

Few fun facts. Polar Bear's scientific name is Ursus maritmus (which would very roughly translate to sea bear) bc of how much time they spend swimming (which also means they are grear swimmers!). They are the most carnivorous of the bears, and imo, they will eat anything that is made of meat. The reason you see so many pictures of mother bears hugging their cubs is because of the cold. Althought, when they are old, their fur is great to protect from the harsh weahter, when they are young they are still vulnerable to it, so mama bears hugs her cubs to keep them warm. Oh and another thing, I discovered that bears can do this thing where they'll find a hole in the ice where seals come up to breath and they just...sit there and wait for it to happen (and they can wait for a LONG time). I love how cute they are when they're young and how fierce they are as adults, and honestly, look at their faces, I love them a lot.

Next, we're back in the american continent, this time with the American Black Bear

The american black bear has a lot of subspecies, which are mostly different colors than their signature black fur, they are omnivorous (and they will eat anything, like i've seen videos of them eating crabs and moths), and also, they are really good climbers! They are mostly found in North America, and they are a bit more chill, like if you ever encounter a black bear, you can scare it away by making yourself look big and making loud noises. They don't have the shoulder hump that brown bears have, and their ears are more prominent (which makes them so freaking cute.) Also, there has been black bears who have made their dens inside of trees, which i think is cool .

Lastly, this might be cheating, but it's a subspecies of the black bear, which is the Kermode Bear

Mostly found in British Columbia, the kermode bear is also known as the spirit bear or the ghost bear, due to their white fur (important to note that they do not have albinism, look at their noses and eyes). The gene that makes them white is a recessive gene, so they are very rare. It's believed that they might be more succesful when hunting fish bc of their fur color, which could make the fish believe that they are a cloud. I love how different they are, how rare they are, and how beautiful they look, especially in contrast with the green around them.

As an honourable mention, I'll talke not about a species but an individual bear known was Grizzly 399.

(she's the mother in case you couldn't tell). She and her cubs can be found in the Yellowstone National Park, and she's the most famous brown bear in the world. She is famous for how many cubs she has had and raised (22 cubs and grandcubs) and she lives in proximity to humans (some believe that the reason she does that is to avoid the male bears when she has cubs). Also she has learned and taught her progeny how to avoid getting hit by cars, and she's a very old bear. (having 27/28 years, which trust me, for bears is a lot and she's still having cubs!). There have been hunters who claimed to have killed Grizzly 399 but they were all lies as she is very alive and well with her cubs. Also, forgot to mention, the reaosn she has had so many cubs is because while most bears give birth to 1 or 2 cubs, 399 often births twins and triplets, and she has had quadruplets which is very rare for most bears (and she raised them succesfully, which is even more impressive).

 THE GOLDEN SON  𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠. now imagine the feeling of floating away into the nether reaches of space. imagine the way slipping up into the air would make you feel – do you feel the air around you at all? is there enough oxygen to make the trip sliding up through the sky and into the unknown worth it? or will the whole experience just leave you clawing at your own skin because it’s burning from the inside out without the attentive oxygen filling up your pores?

the first son is a fag? it didn’t say that, but when he read it it really may as well have. the world plucked him from the closet just before y2k ; a fifteen year old boy with a life sentence. first came tmz, then the times article, and then before he knew it he’s suddenly the country’s most famous gaybie. to america that makes him their sweetheart, but the world never knows what sweethearts do when they’re craving sweet tarts.

the same year he found himself on the wrong side of a conversation. while the world doesn’t know it, having your father be the 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 really makes these trying times much easier to keep undisclosed, he knows the truth of it all. the good ole boy’s private school couldn’t have a drug addicted slut making a bad name for their school, so they banished him to the other realm. or you know. . . expelled him. he finds himself in the countryside of france for the next two years where catholicism is the ruling decree and drug addicts rule the halls. it’s here he rules the school with charlotte arnold by his side, and cross my heart and hope to die those two are a dangerous duo.

college isn’t for everyone, but for a hammond it is an expectation. he’ll start his education one place, and eventually end it in another. the location doesn’t matter : after all there are phones on cameras and street corners now. his antics can destroy his life no matter what he ends up. wherever he is, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬.

 COCAINE DREAMS  and what about the snow? playing in the white confection as the world keeps spinning around you. it’s comfortable, holding you and keeping you warm when the world outside is desperately freezing. why wouldn’t you jump into it’s open arms that widen more for you? it doesn’t feel good to leave it’s grasp so you stay there. where you are wanted. where you are needed. 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝.

he feels everything so fully that even empathy doesn’t cover it. with elders describing his symptoms as a side effect of drug abuse, tj knows the symptoms came first. 𝐢𝐟 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 ( and if only when he screamed it was outside of his mind ) they wouldn’t feel the pain of every time he runs. snow opens her beautiful arms for him and through out his twenties he jumped too far into her arms. some moments were easy – someone at a party helped him sleep it off or his few friends gave him the space to grieve the loss of his sanity. other moments hurt more – nearly dying in a crackhouse in canada just over the border line from buffalo. or the time he thought a bottle of downers was a bottle of uppers and sent himself spiraling more when trying to fix his own problems. he’ll hurt those he loves with every gram that goes up his nose.

after tj and doug turned 24, elaine barrish hammond began her first campaign for president. in a never shocking turn of events, people seemed more interested in a third term of bud ( even though they knew the scandals he locked in his closet ) instead of elaine. he doesn’t care ; after all, a tour de usa means he can find a fuck in all 50 states. they want to use him as a puppet like always? not a person, not a son, but a 𝐭𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞.

she ends up secretary of state, and tj ends up with a forced residency in dc once again. at 25 years old he is beginning to 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠. no one notices when republican senator sean reeves of ohio begins to steal glances at the ex first son. what’s worse is the reciprocation. tj on the wrong end of those glances turns into allowing someone to devour him whole while knowing he’ll spit him up and throw him out. the details of his sobriety, and his happiness, are unfortunately unimportant ( after all, they come at the hands of a false idol ) and instead the focus shifts to the inevitable ending. our sweetheart feels the false love ooze from every pore ; it leaves him as the tears spill from his red rimmed eyes. there’s a car, and a garage, and it’s all he can think to do in a split second. how might a mother, who loves her children with all of her heart despite how she hurts them so, feel when she finds her son no longer inhaling fumes because he’s passed out? ask elaine barrish.

no one knows for over a year, names and pseudonyms being confused and dispersed. forced sobriety normally didn’t work for tj, but this time rehab seemed to get through to him. he can maintain a sense of sobriety, nothing that’s considered illegal or prescribed to others, until 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤. the puppet is now a pawn, an article being published on the suicide attempt of america’s sweetheart. he watches the story unfold on the news while sharing a straw to soak up snow on his dealer’s couch.

*Kagami Herushingu smiles, surprised at how... calm this girl is to see another version of herself. She tips the hat in response*

Herushingu: Well, thank ya kindly, darlin’! Name’s Herushingu, pleasure to meet ya!

Canon!Kagami: Kagami Tsurugi. I must say, your accent is lovely, yet is quite different from your name. Are you by any chance American?

Herushingu: Yes’m, Born and raised in Texas!

Canon!Kagami: Hmm... how interesting. I don't sense any sort of falsehood about you. Clearly this is the result of some sort of accident. Are you by any chance from an alternate reality?

*Herushingu's eyes widen in surprise. She's right on the money!*

Herushingu: Just precisely, ma’am. Where I’m from, my kin are monster hunters, same as I am ma’self!

Canon!Kagami: Oh! And by monsters, you are referring to more supernatural species? In our world, the only sort of monsters are those who were changed by the villainous Hawk Moth.

*Herushingu sobers back up and tells her counterpart about her team and the type of monsters they face*

Herushingu: Exactly right on that front, darlin’! We’re talkin’ real monsters, vampires, phantoms, demons! The kind that live to terrorize the in’cent folk! Not to mention the most vile. Human killers!

Canon!Kagami: What gives one person the right to decide when another’s life should end. It’s just…dishonorable!

Herushingu: S'like my mama says. "Humans are the only 'monsters', because they have no reason to kill."

*Canon!Kagami looks a little jealous and sad that her mother isn't as close to her.*

Canon!Kagami: Does your mother treat you well?

*Herushingu frowns, looking concerned for her counterpart.*

Herushingu: Yeah, she can be a bit rough on the edges sometimes, but we get on just fine! I get the feelin’ ya need someone to talk to, hon.

Canon!Kagami: *Trying to stay strong* I... I try hard to stay strong, in order to make her proud. But sometimes... *voice quivering* I feel as though I am nothing but a disappointment.

*She desperately hold back a sniffle, as Herushingu embraces her, letting the girl sob into her shoulders. It pains her to think of a world where her mama would treat her with such cruelty.*

Herushingu: Here, now, that’s a load’a nonsense! I’ve only just met ya, but so can already tell ya got a fightin’ spirit! The only person who’s standards ya need to live up to are your own, and I’m sure you got plenty to be proud of!

Canon!Kagami: *Sniffing* I... I'm sorry for breaking down. That isn't like me. *Trying to regain composure* I... I suppose I like fencing. I mean... my mother made sure that happened. *Frowning once again* Do... do you like fencing?

Herushingu: (smiles) I do love a good sword-crossin’ every now and again! But if I’m bein’ honest, my trusty guns get me through the most battles!

Canon!Kagami: What is a... gun?

Herushingu: (Blinks a few times) Oh, boy…

Canon!Kagami: *A little bit later* So, do you have heroes you fight alongside? Some sort of team?

Herushingu: (Smiles) Yeah, I got ma partners, Marinette and Adrien.

Canon!Kagami: *Feels a quiver in her stomach once again.* Oh... what are they like?

*Herushingu tells her about their jobs and personalities, and notices Canon!Kagami looking sadder and sadder as she continues*

Herushingu: Well, Marinette’s real spunky, she’s somethin’ of a mad scientist! Sometimes I don’t know what she’s talkin’ about, but it’s cute how excited she gets! And Adrien…well, he’s one of a kind. So sweet, but so lively at the same time! Don’t know what I’d do without em to be honest!

*Canon!Kagami sobs once again. Memories of events from canon are flashing through her mind. Herushingu frowns. What on earth happened between her and her partners in this world?*

Herushingu: What... what's wrong?

Canon!Kagami: It's... it's complicated.

*Herushingu's eyes narrow. Something happened to this girl, and she wants to know what*

*And she did. She told Herushingu everything that had gone down. All of the highs and lows.... and Herushingu was PISSED*

Herushingu: Darlin’…I don’t even know WHAT to say. They put you through hell emotionally and yet you still stand by em! If they don’t realize how lucky they are to have you in their lives, I may do something I’d regret later!

Canon!Kagami: No... please don't. They're perfect for each other, just not for anyone else. Focus on your own partners, keep taking good care of them.

Herushingu: (Sighs) If you say so, lil lady!

Canon!Kagami: ... Is there any way I can visit you?

Backstory/Background:

When Crispin was still an infant he had a severe life threatening infection, which left him deaf, ultimately. It also left scars near his ears from the damaged skin the infection affected. Growing up in a popular, famous and wealthy family that had been around for a very long time, Crispin was able to take advantage of all the amenities offered to the child of such prominence. 

As the youngest son of Drakon who was somewhat a mama's boy when he was a child, Crispin was expected to learn the way of the Murray family like his older brother. Though unlike his older brother Crispin had actually taken such a task seriously. Where his brother often, being far older than Crispin, enjoyed sneaking out and getting into trouble with their friends and often partied into the morning. Drakon himself was never too terrible of a father and often wanted to make sure his family was safe, despite his hostile temper at times. But due to his oldest son's party life behavior it became apparent to him that Crispin, the more level headed and calmer of the two would be his true choice to take on the future mantle of the Murray family. 

Because of his family’s oddness overall Crispin was involved in plenty of stranger incidents that resulted in demons and other mutants and the like getting involved in, usually in attacking his family. At one instant while with his mother at a restaurant they were attacked by enemies who had been trying to steal the Fountain of Youth from his mother’s being, as it had been made into an object that she carried within her body. With his father and brother gone Crispin had been the only one around to be there to protect his mother from their attackers. Which left Crispin beaten and his mother almost taken captive. 

However Drakon arrived in time to save his wife and Crispin. Once saved the family returned back home to tend to wounds and make sure their current enemies were diverted to other projects. Crispin again settled back into normal life after having a bullet wound treated. Being that his family had prominence mostly in the medical field and such other big structures, Crispin was also given the best care, enabling him to hear with some of the most advanced hearing aids available, usually not on the market. This allowed him to find he had a lot of talent in music, not in just the playing of musical instruments, but also the singing, mostly in singing. Which he had discovered on one of the many times he was left home alone, because his deafness made his family believe him too weak to take on their usual misadventures. 

So Crispin was often allowed to stay home and in doing so discovered his many other talents that did not have to do with fighting, which he honestly did not care for anyway. Crispin often enjoyed staying home and watching tv. Not always listening to it, but certainly watching it in his spare time. As he did not often wear his hearing aids, enjoying the silence that came without them. This could be said because his life was always full of chaos, with a family like his always being so loud. He had quickly become one of the most quiet members, even to the point of almost becoming entirely invisible. Though in his moments of invisibility, he was allowed to get much more done overall.

For the majority of Crispin’s later childhood and early teen years his life was a relatively stable and calm one. His father (Asuka) abandoned the family, leaving Drakon to take on the majority of responsibilities. Not long after, his brother also left to start his own life, running off with a boyfriend. This left Crispin and Drakon as heads of the family estate. Crispin soon enough became an adult, but stayed on the estate while his father was often away doing business. Leaving him in control of things at home. Though has not taken on the family’s main business, that is in going into the medical field, and has instead decided to mainly become an artist. Which Drakon has yet to weigh any opinion on.

Werewolf AU: 

Born in the Murray family, a family of vast wealth and prominence, due to the family having their hands in all of the pots. Most importantly, they rule the medical field, becoming doctors more than anything else overall. Crispin was born second and youngest of Drakon and Asuka Murray. He has one older brother. Drakon met Asuka while on a visit to Japan and the two fell in love, having their oldest son years before Crispin. By the time Crispin was born there was already a lot of strife within the family. Drakon's younger triplet brother had vanished from the family one day as a child, which had lead to rumors around town that Drakon's father had gotten rid of the brother, possibly even had the boy murdered. 

Then there was Drakon's marriage to Asuka, which was often a point of contention and rumor. Asuka was not willing to settle down, never having adjusted well to Drakon's family, home, or lifestyle. Though Asuka often put up with it, still, not entirely gracefully however. As an infant Asuka was often rumored to be the root cause of the infection that caused Crispin’s deafness. Her negligence in one of the many of Drakon’s business trips was often witnessed by those that worked for the Murray family.  A breaking point for Asuka came when a hit was made on Asuka while she had been out with Crispin to get food. The young boy did what he could to protect his mother from their attackers but was of course, too young, and too weak to stop them. Getting injured in the process, Drakon however came and put an end to the attack, saving Crispin and Asuka.

Asuka had been traumatized by this and continued to be neglectful of their family. For the following months Crispin, along with the rest of his family watched Asuka’ continued to fall apart, becoming an emotional mess. Then one day they had simply just left, without a word. Without ever saying goodbye to her children or husband. No matter how much help they offered, how many times they saved Asuka, Asuka was never going to be someone that was going to stick around. Crispin for years hated Asuka for having abandoned him. But still continued on with his life. Learning the family trade, but never finding any interest in it. His brother would soon leave the family estate as well, going to live with a boyfriend somewhere in town. Crispin was left to tend to the estate, which he was far better at doing than his older brother was.

Life went on, Crispin graduated from school and went on to a university of his choosing, which he didn’t have to work very hard to get into, being as wealthy as his family is. But still, on his own merit, without the use of that money, Crispin was accepted. There he has studied required works to take on the family business…es, one day. Though has also made a name for himself, and a career for himself as an artist and vocalist (which he is allowed to do because of his family’s helping him early in getting the most advanced treatments and hearing aids they could get their hands on, as well as cues help Crispin), which he is the lead of a band in, as a side job to his art career.

Not long after Crispin got into university the long lost brother of Drakon’s just turned back up again. For a time reigniting all the rumors and other speculations around what exactly happened to them. With his uncle’s reemergence Crispin also discovered he has other cousin’s. Outside of Noah’s family. He gets along with those cousin’s more than he does Noah. Crispin hadn’t been born when Noah himself was kidnapped. But had been born years later when Noah had unkidnapped himself. As well as old enough to have vague memories of it. Which itself came back to gossip around town because of his uncle returning. Which means Crispin has to hear about all of the gossip, which has exhausted his interest in his family being talked about by others. Crispin continues to try and keep his life separated from that of the rest of his family’s dramatics.

Personality: Despite what she’s been through Aura is quite the little extrovert. She genuinely enjoys being around other people and thrives of her connections with others. It’s noted that she’s quite calm around social interactions.

She seems to be able to see beyond problems and devise plans even if they are small. Out of pure instinct she always wants to do the right thing and has a gift in being able to read the emotions of others which pairs well with her inhuman ability to read people’s auras.

Thanks to Daisy’s influence she is quite the little mischief maker and cheeky, often finding ways to make Coulson facepalm in a corner.

BACKSTORY

This does NOT follow the MCU canon!

The location of Aura’s birth is unknown but it was most likely somewhere in Manila because that was where she was dropped at an orphanage alongside a note that had only one word ‘Aura’. She spent 3 years there.

Kids at the orphanage were able to explore the local town. Aura was around the age of 3 when she was taken into town by some older children. She got separated from them mayhem broke out and Terrigenesis mist was released which resulted in her being turned to stone for a few minutes before she broke out like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon.

She was later found wandering around scared and confused by Bucky Barnes who at the time was working for SHIELD as The Winter Soldier after it fell to HYDRA. When Aura saw Bucky her eyes glowed silvery white on instinct and this prompted him to take her in realising that she was not a just a normal girl.

Director Phil Coulson had her assessed for any inhuman abilities but the results were undetermined.

When called, the orphanage happily gave Aura over. The last thing they said was that the girl told people of the colours she can see on them, and they weren’t wrong. Aura would often stop and stare at passing agents, announcing the pretty colours she’d see coming off them.

Aura spent 2 years under the close protection and care of SHIELD. After discussion with Steve Aura was officially adopted by Bucky who doted on her night and day when he wasn’t out on mission. Phil couldn’t keep his love for her contained. He really was the overprotective father figure who wouldn’t let her out of his sight especially when Bucky wasn’t there. May never liked the fact there was a child in the base but she quickly grew a soft spot for Aura and started training her in how to fight, saying that if she was going to grow up in a secret agency she should at least learn how to protect herself. Aura looked up to Daisy like a big sister and bonded closely with her over shared life experiences. It was with her that she discovered her ability to read and manipulate auras. Once the team learnt of her power May focused her training on controlling and channeling her emotions, as well as understanding her chakras and practicing cultivation since her power seemed to heavily rely on her emotional stability.

The rare times that Bucky was allowed off duty were spent at the Avengers’ Compound where Aura was fussed over by everyone, especially Steve Rogers who became Aura’s second father.

It was a month after she’d turned 5 that a trip to the Compound was hijacked by HYRA who took over SHIELD a few days later. By that time it had been confirmed that Aura was an Inhuman and word had clearly gotten around to them. The car was knocked off the road leaving Bucky unconscious while Aura was captured unharmed.

Hidden away in the depths of a HYDRA base god knows where they did what HYDA did best, they experimented on her in attempts to figure out how her powers worked and where they came from and whether or not they could take them from her. Because of her regenerative healing faster she was left with one most noticeable scar on her left abdomen that snaked around her side. It was discovered quickly that too many negative emotions caused blockages which made it difficult for her to access her powers. That was used to their advantage. They could have manually wiped her mind like they had done with Super Soldiers but decided that the altering was too much of a risk since her powers counted on her mental strength and stability. They deemed her too young to have a camera placed in her eye. So, given Aura was a child she was easily manipulated into believing the twisted truth that HYDRA was good. So much so she started working for them. They placed Grant Ward as her Guardian and Supervising Officer of sorts. Anything to hurt Coulson and his former team.

Once Aura was ready and they trusted her to be on their side HYDRA sent her out on in the field on missions. She was taught how to manipulate auras to create what are called aura attacks, which worked in her favour on these missions and helped her take down people.

Sometime after she turned 6, Aura was placed on a mission that SHIELD happened to intercept. She willingly fought against her family and friends, not even Daisy could get through to her. That was when they called in her father. The moment she laid eyes on Bucky everything came rushing back and she broke down. Bobbi was quick to swoop in and scoop her up while Hunter ensured her safe passage back to the quinjet.

Once safely back home under the protection of SHIELD, Aura began her slow journey of rehabilitation and therapy which included relearning that HYDRA was not an ally. She often closed herself off on days that brought back memories, selectively going mute. It took a long time and there were still days she found herself unable to let go of the pain and guilt of her time with HYDRA. On top of this she learned Jemma Simmons was trapped on an alien world which she was devastated about. She would sit with Fitz in his lap while he worked on bringing her back.

Similar events to season 3 happen a few months after she turned 7, Jemma was brought back which released the new threat of Hive. Bobbi and Hunter leave SHIELD. Lincoln is killed alongside Grant Ward in space.

While the main factor of his mutation is his regenerative ability, the claws come from the other part of his mutation, which is an animalistic nature. McKenzie's Response to: “Mama’s Baby, Papa’s Slavery: The Problem and Promise of Mothering in Octavia Butler’s ‘Bloodchild.’

    Octavia Butler proves the ways that science fiction has the capacity to speak to more significant and realistic social commentaries. In particular, her short story “Bloodchild” details a bizarre tale that challenges human social norms. It is set on an alien planet where humans are used as hosts to breed alien eggs, and the story follows Gan who witnesses’ an alien birth and realizes he no longer wants to be a host anymore. The critical essay Kristin Lillvis writes acknowledges the layers that the story has and how Bloodchild reveals the complexities of Butler’s psyche.

      Bloodchild is told from the perspective of Gan, a human “Terran”, who opens the story with him eating life-extending sterile eggs with his family. He recounts that the eggs came from T’Gatoi a high-ranking alien Tlic and a lifelong friend of his mother's. T’Gatoi’s relationship with their family has kept them safe against her species who have little regard for humans, so perhaps in gratitude, Gan’s mother made a deal to use one of her children as a breeder for T’Gatoi. Later, Gan sees Lomas (a human host) give birth and has to kill an animal for him to feed the newborn. The birth is quite disturbing to Gan, and it helps him realize that he no longer wants to be a host. Gan then threatens to kill himself and T’Gatoi tells him that it would leave the responsibility to his sister which causes him to rethink. In the end, Gan and T’Gatoi mate and she promises she’ll never leave him. 

    The article Mama’s Baby Papas’s Slavery poses the argument that Butler’s intention was to present the maternal figure as powerful while challenging gender norms. The short story serves as a reflection of Octavia’s philosophy of what a mother is and also adds to the conversation of postcolonial thought and gender theory. The strength of this argument is the fact that Butler herself did in fact state that the story was a way she could toy with the idea of a man getting pregnant, and so that does interact with theory. But mostly, it was how the pregnancy didn’t make the male character more of a mother than the alien character who was the contributing maternal figure that compelled him to subject himself to being a host. The argument makes sense in that regard because the story does revolve around T’Gatoi’s relationship with the human family, and it feels intensely maternal even to the human who is an actual mother.  Lillivis says “Gan demonstrates this Terran reliance on the Tlic through his relationship with T'Gatoi. Gan's affinity for T'Gatoi, who is notably a government official, disrupts his connection to his mother, Lien, and prevents him from accessing his maternal heritage.”

   Where the argument doesn’t acknowledge is that the love the main character that the human face for the alien was not maternal but romantic. It is particularly questionable from the quote: “And to keep you for myself,” I said. It was so. I didn’t understand it, but it was so.” There’s this level of ambivalence about how he feels about the intimacy between him and the alien. There is an argument that can be made that the quote and the conclusion that the story features romantic love can just be added to the conversation of the Oedipus complex and prove the maternal thing further. I personally agree with Lillviss’ argument that Bloodchild is a projection of Butler’s idealogy of what motherly love should be.       When reading Bloodchild, my focus was more on the peculiarity of the characters rather than the meaning of the story. It is safe to say I was mostly intrigued by the man being the one who gives birth, and the entire relationship between humans and insect-like aliens. After closer reading, it sort of resembled American colonialism and racism. But in this case, the humans themselves are the inferior beings and the aliens superior. Humans are being used as a means to an end which is to be hosts. Perhaps I was being a little presumptuous because Octavia Butler is a black author, and I considered the ways that her racial identity influenced this story. But, of course, she states that this story was not written about slavery but about love and scary Peruvian insects. I read it as what she meant it to be, a love story. To me, science fiction is just like other fiction but with the use of a wider imagination. So, the extra information about the aliens and human adversity wasn’t really something I necessarily focused on in the story. I paid attention to the characters and what they said to each other. I noticed how the father wasn’t in the story but only mentioned. I noticed the admiration they all had for the alien woman T’Gatoi. It appealed to me like a story of love and sacrifice and also how reproductive organs don’t make you a mother. I find that this story could speak to modern transgender inclusion conversations and also queer conversations with its interaction with sexual identity theories. Women are the champions in this story. The ones that must be saved and admired. While, on the other hand, the men are struggling in this narrative. I don’t believe that it was a coincidence. I think this story was a reflection of how Butler thinks of women in general. Women can give birth, but shouldn't have to. They can lead and thrive and receive love. This is a feminist and progressive story, in my opinion.

Charmed (2018)

Season 1 of the reboot gave us the Charmed Ones vs the Elder witches vs the Sisters of Arcana coven (that their mother Marisol helped found) vs demons. Not once did any of the Innocents that the Vera-Vaughns helped out turn out to be another witch: they were all mortals. And the Elders and Sarcana were still witches, just with very different ideas on how they should use magic. (Not to mention all these groups were still working within the show's background worldbuilding, which primarily drew from Greek mythology and Celtic & Central European mythology / folklore.)

Mama Roz was a Haitian Yoruba priestess and psychic, and... that's about it. She was never classified on-screen as a witch, and she was primarily there to serve Macy's subplot.

Season 2 gave us Kat the botanica owner who also turned out to be a psychic but not a witch, and later gave us Ruby, a witch who had voluntarily given up her powers and essentially become mortal. There's also the introduction of constant annoyance demon-witch Abigael Jamieson-Caine, daughter of s1 antagonist Alistair Caine and half-sister to his sons Hunter (full demon) and Parker (half-demon).

Season 3 has the Perfecti, and... that's it? Season 4 barely introduces the magical community, and with the special/practical effects budget on this show it was very difficult to tell the magical creatures were even magical creatures. The fourth season also introduces the Charmed multiverse at the very last minute.

It's made explicitly clear in the 2018 Charmed universe that male witches do not exist, warlocks (male and female) do not exist, and while MTF trans witches can gain an active power through a specific ritual, mortal practitioners are also not established as a concept that exists.

Charmed (1998)

This one is going to be in bullet points, because it's going to be way too long otherwise.

warlocks and good witches are presented as two sides of the same coin, with warlocks killing good witches to steal their powers. Both men and women can be either witches or warlocks. Warlocks are also different from evil witches, who also exist (and, again, can be either male or female).

several Innocents the Halliwell Charmed Ones save are either magical witches themselves, or mortal witchcraft practitioners. Some of the other witches we see on-screen practice Wicca, but others do not and have their own traditions.

season five's "The Eyes Have It" introduces magical Romani as a sister / cousin species to witches, focusing on the Nicolae clan

four episodes specifically focus on Chinese mythology and essentially have the Charmed Ones along for the ride, while the Chinese characters take center stage

season 6 introduces two feuding witch families, the Montanas and the Calloways. Paige even dates Richard Montana for a while, and he has his own issues with controlling his magic + his family's traditions are very different from those of the Warren line

one of the first Innocents the Charmed Ones save is Max, a teenager new to his witch powers that he inherited from his mother, Max and his family are all Black, and since his mother died only a few months ago, we're not given any information on if her witchcraft practices involved an African Religious Tradition, Wicca, or even Latin American witchcraft. (Still, they were there, which is more than can be said for the reboot.)

Season 6 introduces the audience to the Phoenix clan of witches, witch assassins with demon-like powers such as shimmering and reconstitution. They have a grimoire instead of a Book of Shadows to further highlight their moral ambiguity

season 8 focuses on the Jenkins line of witches through Christy and Billie, the latter of whom the Charmed Ones take under their wing and train.

I was arguing with a Charmed (2018) fan the other day who tried to claim that the reboot "explored more different types of magic than the OG did".

Sorry, but that claim is untrue, even if you stick to comparing all four seasons of the 2018 reboot with the first four seasons of the original 1998 Charmed.

Just by comparing the first season of each show:

Charmed (1998)

s1e2 "I've Got You Under My Skin" has the Charmed Ones use the Hand of Fatima to vanquish Javna. The Prophet Mohammed (that Mohammed, from Islam) is explicitly referenced in the Book of Shadows, and the Hand of Fatima is used throughout North Africa and the Middle East as protection against evil.

s1e4 "Dead Man Dating" primarily takes place in San Franciso's Chinatown, and the supernatural antagonist is Yama, the Hindu god of death. The mortal antagonists are all members of a Triad gang. Three other episodes later on in the series focus on Chinese mythology.

s1e6 "The Wedding From Hell": demonic villainess Jade de Mon turns out to be Hecate, named after the Greek goddess of magic, the moon, and crossroads.

s1e7 "The Fourth Sister": Kali, the antagonist, is named after the Hindu goddess of death, doomsday, and time.

s1e11 "Feats of Clay" centers around a stolen Egyptian urn and heavily features Egyptian mythology motifs

s1e18 "When Bad Warlocks Go/Turn Good": not the first time Christianity has shown up in the series, but it is the first time the sisters have to save a half-warlock Catholic priest-in-training

Charmed (2018)

s1e1 "Pilot": the triqutra symbol representing the Veras' status as the Charmed Ones has its roots in Celtic (Irish) culture. Books of Shadows are solely used in Wicca, a British religious form of witchcraft. The Veras' BOS even has an entry on Melinda Warren. (Keep in mind that the Vera-Vaughns in this series are supposed to be Puerto Rican, and instead of going with the rich traditions and history of Latin American witchcraft, the producers and writers shoved their Latina witches into a Wiccan framework.)

s1e2 "Let This Mother Out": Spirit boards as they exist today are an American invention. (The Halliwells also had a spirit board that was passed down through their family, but that one did look like a family heirloom, not like it had been bought at Barnes & Noble a few years prior.) Marisol also created the prism world they trapped the Imposter Demon in, so no points there

s1e4 "Exorcise Your Demons": Mel finds a secret spell written by their mother in the B.O. S derived from Santeria that the sisters use to free Angela Wu.

s1e5 "Other Women": Introduces "hellflame", suspiciously similar to Greek fire. The spell Mel and her sisters cast to rewrite her history with Niko invokes the Moirai, the Greek goddesses of fate.

s1e6 "Kappa Spirit": Maggie and Mel briefly suspect that the ghost Brenda is a Banshee, a malevolent spirit from Irish folklore. Mama Roz, a recurring Haitian Yoruba priestess and psychic, is introduced (this kicks off Macy and Galvin's continuing subplot throughout the season exploring Yoruba).

s1e7 "Out of Scythe": Introduces the Scythe of Tartarus and a satyr as a guardian for one of the scythe's pieces, all of which are taken from Greek mythology.

s1e9 "Jingle Hell": episode begins with Hunter and Parker stealing a staff from a Russian Orthodox church, bringing Christianity into play. The episode ends with Harry falling down into Tartarus (again, Greek mythology).

s1e11 "Witch Perfect": music instructor at Hilltowne University (and director for the Hilltones a capella group) is taken over by a set of demonic pan's pipes while on vacation in Greece (once more, Greek mythology)

s1e13 "Maniac Pixie Nightmare": introduces pixies from Central European mythology

s1e15 "Switches and Stones": has Medusa the gorgon as the villain of the week, famously from Greek mythology

s1e18 "The Replacement": new Whitelighter Tessa makes reference to "Western magic" when fighting the Abiku (from Yoruban mythology) that is possessing Galvin

That's *checks notes* seven cultures the original series explores outside of British Traditional Wicca within its first season. The same cannot be said for the 2018 reboot's first season, where the only cultures drawn from are Central/Northern European, Greek, and Yoruba. Santeria (an Afro-Cuban religion) is mentioned once, and the denomination of Christianity shows in-series is very white European. So... yeah, that's three cultures for the reboot compared to the original's seven.

s2e6 "That Old Black Magic" features the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, which shows up in folklore across the world

s2e7 "They're Everywhere" deals with the Akashic Records, believed by Theosophists to be a compendium of all universal events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future in terms of all entities and life forms. (There is no evidence the records actually exist, and the religion of Theosophy was founded by a Russian mystic in the late 19th century, but the word akashic itself is from Sanskrit.)

s2e21 "Apocalypse Not" deals with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

s2e22 "Be Careful What You Witch For" introduces genies from Arabian mythology (Genies show up again in season 6)

s3e13 "The Good, the Bad, and the Cursed" touches on racism against Native Americans (via residual energy in a ghost town causing a time loop and Phoebe psychically connecting with Bo Lightfeather, the victim in question)

s4e5 "Size Matters" features a golem, which are from Jewish folklore

season 5 really starts in on expanding the magical community to include nymphs, unicorns, leprechauns, dwarves, mermaids, etc. Season 6 introduces a student at Magic School who's a Shaman, a different species from magical witches (s6e14 "The Legend of Sleepy Halliwell").

s5e6 "The Eyes Have It" introduces and heavily features Romani with magical abilities as a sister species to witches. Specifically, it focuses on a young Roma woman who becomes the matriarch of her family line, has snippets of the Romani language (or one of its many dialects) spoken on-screen, and has Ava grappling with rejecting vs returning to her heritage.

s5e10 "Y Tu Mummy También" again centers on Egyptian mythology

s5e13 "House Call" features a witch doctor who uses voodoo. Witch Doctors are explicitly stated to be on the side of good and good magic, and the one in the episode uses his magic to teach the Charmed Ones a much-needed lesson.

s6e1-2 "Valhalley of the Dolls" transforms the sisters into Valkyries from Norse mythology to rescue Leo from Valhalla (which for some reason is presided over by Freyja, when she's actually in charge of a different area of the Norse afterlife).

s7e1 "A Call to Arms" has Piper and Leo accidentally taken over by Hindu deities Shakti and Shiva (they were attending a Hindu wedding as guests when the deities were invoked to bless the marriage).

The Avatars, the antagonists of season 7's first half, have part of their backstory rooted in ancient Egypt: they were defeated by Anubis, the Egyptian god of death and rebirth.

Charmed (2018)

season 2 draws heavily from the Salem and European Witch Trials for its worldbuilding and backstory for characters: recurring character Jordan's ancestor was a Witchfinder General whose bloodline was cursed by a witch he killed; Whitelighters (and their Darklighter counterparts) are discovered to have first been created as a result of the Salem Witch Trials. The castle where the rite to create new White/Darklighters is held is located in Scotland.

season 3 made shit up whole cloth for its antagonists without drawing on one particular culture, but it finally introduces Puerto Rican witchcraft in the form of the Veras' second cousin Josefina (which is promptly forgotten about the second she's finished her plotline)

season 4 reveals that this universe's "original" Charmed Ones were unrelated brown women granted their magic by the nine clans of magical beings (trolls, leprechauns, hobgoblins, lamias, pixies, etc.) -- all of whom are, again, originally from European folklore.

"The reboot explored more types of magic than the original series did."

Bullshit. It very much the fuck did not. The writers kept cycling through Greek, Irish & British, Yoruba and Central European folklore for their worldbuilding and only gave Puerto Rican culture an afterthought. Which is not a good look when the protagonists being Latina (specifically, Puerto Rican) was the fucking selling point for this reboot in the first place.

How Dangerous Are Coyote Encounters?

While spring is a time that many people associate with cute baby animals, fall and winter are when breeding season actually begins for many mammals. Right now we are in coyote (Canis latrans) breeding season, which means these native canids are on the move, seeking mates. You may even be more likely to hear them as they call out to each other, and they may be active at any time of day or night. This could lead to coyote encounters for your or your pets.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of myths about coyotes that have been used to excuse the ongoing persecution of these intelligent animals. Coyotes are an example of a keystone species, one which is so important to its habitat that if it is removed it has serious negative effects for numerous other species. They keep several prey species, including rodents, from overpopulating and spreading disease; this also helps keep some plant species from being decimated by too many herbivores. Some birds also may benefit from coyotes as these wild dogs keep nest predators in check, allowing more eggs and baby birds to survive to adulthood.

Prior to widespread agricultural and industrial development by European-Americans, coyotes largely lived west of the Mississippi. As their competitors the gray wolf (Canis lupus) and red wolf (Canis rufus) were exterminated in much of its range in the lower 48 states, coyotes were able to expand further east and north, and today they can be found in every state except Hawaii. (They’ve even been expanding toward South America in recent years!) Moreover, as coyotes are much more tolerant of humans than some larger predators such as wolves and mountain lions (Felis concolor), and are not as reliant on forested land, they were able to take advantage of land cleared for agriculture and housing. In fact, they’ve even been found in the hearts of cities as large as Los Angeles! And they respond to being hunted not by leaving an area, but by having more pups each year, meaning that more places are looking to humane, nonlethal control measures based on more recent scientific research in the field.

Unfortunately, these savvy animals have been followed by some unfortunate myths which can make people more concerned about coyote encounters. Let’s untangle a couple of them.

Myths About Coyotes

Many animals will become more aggressive during breeding and denning/nesting season, both to secure their territory and protect mates and young. Elk and other deer are notoriously dangerous during the fall rut, and even an antlerless doe can inflict serious damage with her sharp hooves if she feels her fawn is threatened. And of course no one wants to come between a mama bear and her cubs! Even birds are more likely to go on the attack when on the nest, whether that’s an angry Canada goose charging at you, a flock of dive-bombing crows, or even a fierce little wren yelling at you from a perch at face level.

Contrary to popular belief, though, wildlife aren’t going to go out of their way to confront humans unless they feel threatened. This includes coyotes. They have a particular behavior that is often mistaken for an attack or stalking: the escort. What happens is that one coyote, usually one of the parents of a nearby litter of pups, will appear to be following you at a bit of a distance. However, they’re simply keeping an eye on you, kind of like a person watching someone of questionable character walking down the street. You’ve strayed too close to the den site, and they just want to be sure you leave without causing any trouble.

If you happen to be getting closer to the den (which you may not even be able to see) they may come closer or even growl. But unless you are actively threatening the den or pups, it is highly unlikely they’ll follow through with their bluff. Keep in mind that wildlife don’t have veterinarians they can go to, and even a seemingly minor injury can end up worsening and end in eventual death, either through infection or starvation. So a healthy coyote will only engage in conflict if they absolutely feel they have no other choice.

You may be even more likely to see an escorting coyote if you have a dog with you. This is because while humans are certainly seen as a threat, dogs are even moreso because they so closely resemble wolves. In the wild, wolves will kill coyotes over food or territory, and dogs are close enough to wolves to make coyotes more concerned. Dogs that run loose have been known to kill coyote pups, and some people even still hunt coyotes with dogs. No wonder the coyotes are concerned.

Escorting of dogs by coyotes brings up another myth: the “scout coyote”. This is a common myth that pops up especially during breeding season. Supposedly a single coyote from a pack will try to lure a dog closer, only to have the entire pack attack and kill the dog. Some people even go so far as to say it’s always a female coyote in heat trying to trap male dogs.

However, the coyote escort is not deliberately trying to lead the dog anywhere; it just wants the dog to go away and, like with humans, is watching it until it leaves. If the dog approaches, especially if it does so in an aggressive manner (charging, barking, chasing the retreating coyote, etc.) the pack may then leap in to defend the escort and their territory. In this case, though, it was the dog who initiated the actual aggression; all the coyotes wanted was to be left alone.

(It should be noted that dogs often escalate encounters with other wildlife like bears (Ursus spp.) and elk (Cervus canadensis) for much the same reasons. Most wildlife will continue on their way if left alone, but if your off-leash dog–even a small dog–charges in at them barking its head off, then of course the animal is going to defend itself. Most cases of “My dog protected me from a dangerous animal!” would have ended much more peacefully had the dog been under control and the wild animal been allowed to leave at its own pace.)

Body language speaks volumes: This off-leash dog should never have been allowed to get this close to the coyote, and I’d be willing to bet the dog was the initial aggressor; a dog is much more likely to charge at a coyote than vice versa. This is also not “an attacking coyote.” Notice the coyote is being threatening with its head down and teeth bared, and is slowly moving toward the dog, but is NOT charging in to attack even though it easily could at this distance; it wants to scare the dog away, not fight. Keeping Coyote Encounters Safe

Most of the time when we see a coyote, we get a brief glimpse before the animal heads off in another direction; after all, we’re rather scary to them! So how can we enjoy getting to see these smart critters without anyone getting hurt–humans, pets, or coyotes?

First, don’t feed the coyotes; feeding coyotes is the single biggest factor in making them aggressive toward humans. Sure, you may not deliberately putting out a dish specifically for them, but remember that these are very adaptable omnivores. Any time you leave pet food outside, or try to feed other wildlife like raccoons (Procyon lotor) or opossums (Didelphis virginiana), the coyotes are going to come in for their share. Coyotes will also help themselves to unsecured trash, and as omnivores they may even occasionally feed on fruit from orchards. And a fed coyote loses its fear of humans, which can make it more dangerous. By removing food sources around your home, you’ll keep coyotes from seeing your yard as a buffet.

If you don’t want your cat eaten by a coyote, keep it inside. Yes, even cats that have spent years outdoors can be trained to be indoor kitties; if they’re still scratching to be let out weeks later, you need to give them more enrichment, and not give in to their demands. Not only will your cat live a longer life, and be less likely to be injured or killed by cars, poisons, or dogs, but it will also be safe from coyotes (and the local birds and other wildlife will be safe from your cat.) If you want your cat to still have some outdoor time, consider building a catio, or leash-training your cat! Speaking of leashes, dogs should always be on leashes. Even if they’re too big to be considered a coyote snack, remember what I said earlier about dogs tending to escalate things with wildlife, to include coyote encounters.

If you own chickens or other livestock, a good fence is the best protection against coyotes. A wire fence that they can’t climb through works well, especially if it has roll bars on the top (which also help keep other predators like bobcats (Lynx rufus) and bears out, too.) Keep animals in a secure coop or stable at night. For free-ranging or large pasture animals like sheep or cattle, consider a livestock guardian dog whose sole job is to take care of the herd or flock.

Use nonlethal methods whenever possible; killing coyotes often leads to increased predation. Why? Remember that when coyotes are killed, the remaining coyotes will have more pups. This means more demand for food, which means more predation on livestock. Moreover, traps and hunting often target younger coyotes that are more likely to hunt rodents (keeping them in control) rather than livestock. The vacuum created by the loss of these non-predatory coyotes may be filled by individuals from surrounding areas that are perfectly happy to hunt the livestock.

Finally, if you do see a coyote, don’t try to get closer to it, and definitely don’t try to feed it! If the coyote is at a distance, and is not approaching you, you can likely keep walking, just so long as you aren’t heading closer to it. If the coyote appears to be following you, keep an eye on it but don’t run; chances are you’re near a den and it’s just watching to make sure you leave without causing any trouble.

In the unlikely-but-still-possible event the coyote acts aggressively toward you beyond a growl, face it, make a LOT of noise, and try to make yourself look bigger by spreading your arms, and opening your jacket or umbrella if you have one. You can throw rocks and sticks at it, too. Don’t run, and don’t turn your back, but do back away slowly. If you have a dog keep them on a very tight leash; don’t let them approach the coyote. If the dog is small enough, you can pick it up as you back away. It’s okay to carry an air horn or pepper spray, but use the spray as a last resort, especially if it’s windy and you might have it blow back on you!

The vast majority of coyote encounters are peaceful, and they offer us a glimpse into the lives of these fascinating beings. By respecting their wildness and their boundaries, we can coexist with them and allow them to continue filling the ecological niche they’ve inhabited for thousands of years.

Personality

A sweet and quiet girl, Jora Holiday did not consider herself to be special. She lacked friends in school and kept to herself out of fear of getting bullied. This was because she had to deal with her mutant powers since they came into fruition as a very small child. Jora normally tries to avoid or deflate conflict, though deep down she does get a little fed up with playing peacemaker if the squabbling persists. Jora is compassionate and humble, never boastful but also bashful when it comes to compliments and praise. Of the four kids she is regarded as the nicest.

Because of her powers Jora has clean freak tendencies in her desire to look as normal as possible. She tried to avoid gross situations, although later down the line she learns it's okay to dirty her gloves - literally.

But with sweetness comes sourness, as she does have a passive-aggressive side towards slights, whether real or perceived. She didn't get along with Tasha, feeling as though the latter didn't care for her (which isn't true). Jora tends to be oversensitive and takes things too personally, ans even can be prone to tears if provoked hard enough. She also bears lingering resentment and shame over the partial ailments her element brings; these feelings fade away over time as she grows to accept her powers and adapt to her condition. One of her biggest flaws is her timidness and inability to stand up for herself and others. She also didn't get along with Ben for a while, though they get better quickly.

Jora has a love of nature, as shown with her hobby of collecting flowers and mushrooms. She despises animal abuse of any kind, and strives to be a bit more conscious of the environment. She also seems to have no phobia towards bugs, and thus is the designated "spider catcher" on the Rust Bucket.

Jora has a passion for fashion and a girly sense of style, preferring to dress in bright or pastel colors. Her love of nature and love of fashion could lead to a career based on environmentally friendly beauty products.

When she grows up Jora is considerably more capable of handling herself. She gets upset when people see and treat her as a fragile thing, seeing as though they don't trust her. She also is very in tune with nature, spending her days off on long walks in the forests, or at her homemade lab making potions.

In this timeline she was a waitress who worked after shifts as a vigilante. At the time the Hero of Heroes didn't know who this mysterious woman was, although he was struck by familiar feelings.

Background

Born the second child to floral shop owners Jeremy and Mavis Holiday, Jora had a normal childhood in the comfy small town of Annville, SC. A quiet child, she spent after-school helping around the shop. They were small yet popular with the townsfolk, reputed for their knowledge of plants and colorful arrangements. However that normalcy took a detour when Jora's powers camemto fruition.

When people started to notice more and more plants dying, that in turn led to decrease in customers and soon the shop began to undergo financial trouble. One day, a beautiful woman named Kudzu came into the store offering to buy the place from Jeremy. See, Kudzu was one of the wealthiest and powerful people in town. He refused. The next day Kudzu came again with another proposition. Again Jeremy refused. This occurred all through the week, until finally a very irritated Mavis demanded Kudzu to leave their family alone. That time, Kudzu left and didn't ame back after that. The couple was relieved. Jora was nervous.

One day, just as Tasha and Jora were at the last day of school anf thr parents were off to cash in their winning lottery ticket, the floral shop caught fire! The firefighters were called and put out the blaze, but it left their shop and home in charred ruins.

Jora felt very guilty: if she never had her powers, there wouldn't have been such an awful domino effect. The fire was ruled as a freak accident, however Jeremy and Mavis believed that other forces were at work. They couldn't prove their theories as their suspect had too much power and leverage to be fought one on one. So they came up with a plan: they would spend the summer working to add money to the saved money while their kids go out of town. Mavis called upon an old friend from trade school to take the girls on vacation (somewhere safe from Kudzu).

The next couple of days after staying at a shelter, the girls were able to buy a few new outfits and essentials and told to wait for a brown and white RV. When the RV arrived, out came a older gentlemen in a bright scarlet Hawaiian shirt, with two children trailing behind him. He introduced himself as Max Tennyson, and the two kids were his grandchildren Ben and Gwen.

Trivia

Jora has a nature motif to contrast Ben's aliens and Gwen's magic.

Overall Jora is the most normal member of the team; her family has no connection to the Plumbers or magic.

Jora doesn't have signature color, the closest would be pink and yellow since those are colors she tends to wear the most of.

I made Jora so that there'd be another main girl in the cast and because the show didn't have a black female character (despite having nonwhite female characters of other ethnicities, and black male characters)

She does not have a major role in UAF; instead her storyline is seen as a spinoff (think Static Shock to the Justice League) focusing on smaller-scale plots with occasional cameos from main cast

Jora does come back in Omniverse to replace Gwen as the female lead; she is joined by Dr. Azura (Secret Saturdays OC), Myra Hopewell (GenRex), Ginger T. Glass, and her cousin Patti.

It is unknown whether her power is genetics or a random mutation.

In the Ben 10000 timeline she and Ben broke up because Ben tried to forbid her from going on active missions as a way to keep her safe. Obviously she didn't like that and left. They do reconcile at the end of the episode.

Jora's powers can vary based on the type of fungi she's using at the time. So her colors could range from inky-black to a gorgeous green

She is a candidate to take on the mantle of Mother Nature (currently held by Mama G)

Her hobbies are: reading comics and books primarily fantasy genre, costume design, hiking, floral pressing, DIY crafts, and insects

Due to her timid nature she has a fear of public speaking.

Jora is a foil for Kevin in that she was born with destructive powers. Unlike Kevin, she learned to rely on friends to help her stabilize her powers.

- A recurring subplot is the girls encountering and escaping from Kudzu's hired goons sent to track them down.

Jora was going to have standard plants and flowers as her power but I wanted to go for nontraditional elements instead.

The irony is that she's a softie dressed in bright colors and respects life, yet has a power related to death.

- At the end of the show she reunites with her parents and they're able to rebuild their business. She also stands up to Kudzu and exposes the woman for the rotten POS she is

Raymond ~ Friendship Level 6

Raymond arrived last August right after the campsite was established, being the first one to arrive. (Yep. I’m telling the truth. Right before my birthday too.) When Emelia first saw Raymond, she knew who he was right away. How could she not know who he was?! She begged asked Tom to let him live in Chronisse just minutes around maybe a few hours after speaking to him. Although it may seem as though Raymond makes her swoon, it’s rather the opposite. He intimidates her, but that fills her stomach with butterflies. They have similar auras and similar interests in mind. He just melts her little goth heart! On his end, she’s a hardworking human who entertains him nonetheless. He can’t get enough of her, watching her carry on with her everyday business and offering to help at times, which flusters her.

Poppy ~ Friendship Level 6

Poppy arrived in January of 2021 when she went out time traveling, making her the second villager to arrive. Emelia thinks of Poppy like a sister, always there for reassurance and advice. She labels her to be the brains of the island, despite her claiming otherwise. Emelia took her advice on creating LGBT inspired fireworks for the upcoming summer, and she’s thrilled to see them. Emelia, in Poppy’s eyes, is just how she calls her— a softie! Soft and beautiful. She looks up to Emelia, sometimes complimenting her on her work with the island or helping her with nature esque furniture. She remembers on her birthday when she gave her a close line and several tops, including a shirt that was made up of the colors of the lesbian pride flag. She could never thank her enough for that.

Judy ~ Friendship Level 6

Judy was found in a mystery island in October, making her the third to stay. Out of all the girls, Emelia feels as though she can relate to Judy the most. (Minus the bitchiness that exudes from Judy but-) Judy and Emelia share the same fashion sense, which is why she prefers to go shopping with her. What really gets to Judy though is what she can do with Emelia’s emotions. She loves to mess with her and her love admiration for Raymond. So what does she do? She invited Raymond along on ther shopping sprees from time to time. But really, Judy knows Emelia well. She knows she wants to show off. She wants to help her with her confidence, the same way that Emelia does. They’re confidence boots for each other.

Murphy ~ Friendship Level 4

Murphy arrived November using the campsite, the fourth villager to come by. See, Murphy is an older guy. Emelia doesn’t hang around him often, but he’s nice to be around. He gives good advice to her and he helps out around the island without being asked. When she saw that he was interacting well with the other villagers, she investigated him herself. He seemed trustworthy, despite the fact he nags and complains a lot. Raymond got involved with him which really peaked her interest, so she invested more time in him. Murphy likes the fact she’s spunky, but worries for her at times when she overworks herself. He offers her food sometimes and a place to relax when he sees she’s a bit tired or sore. Being a bit of a tsundere, Murphy can’t say he enjoys her company, because he does. Overall, they don’t interact as often as one would prefer, but they do get along.

Skye ~ Friendship Level 5

Skye is the fifth villager, she was found in November on a mystery island. She doesn’t know what attracted her to Skye, but they clicked. Maybe it was her innocent appearance? The combo of chocolate brown and aquamarine? Her friendly yet intimidating nature? No one knows. However, they do get along nicely. Skye almost thinks of Emelia as a good friend, whereas Emelia thinks of her as an older sister figure. She’s got a wolf like personality. She may be calm and aloof, but she can pack a punch if need be. That’s what she likes about her. Skye finds everything that her island’s rep does to be very caring, yet she worries for her at times. She once told her that sometimes she doesn’t seem to understand how hard she works herself and her body, and that it would be a good idea to relax for a while. Take some time for yourself, she said. Nevertheless, Emelia had one goal in mind... she was looking for someone... Skye admired her perseverance but gosh...

Marshal ~ Friendship Level 5

Snow was falling on the night he arrived, the sixth villager to move in. He came around December, just days before Christmas. Upon seeing him, she nearly had a panic attack. She remembered wanting to have an elite island populous. Now was her chance! For months, she had been searching for this man. (For real. I’m telling the truth. This man was exhausting to find and he has the audacity to—) Emelia then made it her personal mission to try and get him over. She succeeded, after a few hours of begging and pleading and bargaining conversation. She treats him and Raymond like kings, and unlike Raymond, Marshal returns her behavior. He drinks his juice and presents himself to be the island’s himbo. She loves him for this. She remembers in New Years Eve when they were both waiting for the clock to run out and he hugged her when the clock ran out. She never felt more flustered in her life. Overall, they treat each other like royalty. Best coffee mates.

Axel ~ Friendship Level 1

A jock...? The seventh villager to arrive in early February. and she can’t stand him already. She thought she could take Kid Cat, which he was fine. But this man? He’s too big and too brooding for her to handle sometimes. She could be just setting a cute little cafe up by her flower gardens, and she would see him and shiver. She doesn’t really like jocks that much. She wishes to find Dom though, but other than him that’s about it. Axel doesn’t really know a lot about her because she never talks to him, but he does find her pretty cute. Small and dainty. When he sees her speak to Raymond or Marshal, he pours because of how “weak” they are compared to him. It’s not that she doesn’t like Axel, it’s just that she feels as though she’s a little too intimidated by him, to an overwhelming degree.

Stitches ~ Friendship Level 4

She loooves Stitches! He came by in Late February, the eighth villager for her to meet. She saw him and felt a little warm on the inside. He warms her heart with his innocent sleepy nature and his baking expertise. A good ol’ mama’s boy! She pats his head and he melts. Stitches looks up to Emelia as though she was a mother duckling. He tries to imitate her sometimes, to which those imitations go completely wrong and she ends up having a good laugh. Emelia however sometimes stops and ponders at how Stitches can be so carefree and laidback. She gets jealous at time to time when it comes to this behavior if his, and sometimes wants to be like him, but she knows she has priorities to fulfill. Until that day comes, she’ll continue to cheer Stitches on from afar, like the good boy he is.

Marina ~ Friendship Level 3

Marina is the ninth villager to call Chronisse home, arriving in early March after being found on a mystery island. She reminded her of Poppy, so she brought her over. Now she started a little group comprised of Skye, Poppy, and now Marina. The normal trio. Her love for the color pink intrigues her yet freaks her out. How much pink does one need? She thinks she’s sweet though, with her cute sweatshirts. Marina finds Emelia to be strong yet kind, and a force to be reckoned with. Although she has to thank her for allowing her to meet Poppy, (refer to my headcanons for that,) she’s about to realize that this is just the beginning of a relationship bound to blossom, if she’s willing to work with Emelia that is.

Merengue ~ Friendship Level 2

Merengue is the tenth villager to show up. She showed up in Mid March. She just met Emelia, so she doesn’t really have a lot to say about her. But when she listens to everyone else minus Axel, she wonders if she’ll believe them. Emelia tries so very hard to appeal to Merengue, however, it may take some time before she can say that she’s her friend. Like Poppy, she was apprehensive at first when meeting Emelia, due to her aura and overall appearance. However, when noticing her softer nature, she began to soften around her just a bit. We’ll just have to let time decide on a true answer. Maybe in time things will turn up.
