I'M ONLY GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, you can combine one 8oz can of pumpkin puree with one box cake mix (any kind but spice cake is best) and about 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, drop by tablespoon-ish onto a greased/parchment/silpat cookie sheet, and bake at 350F for 13-16 minutes
if there are no spices in either your cake mix or pumpkin puree i suggest adding warm spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves
THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT WANT THIS INFORMATION GETTING AROUND
#recipe#reference#if i can commit the temp and time to memory i'll be unstoppable#these also bake fine in an air fryer at like 300F 6-8min#they make a pumpkin pie spice blend for the peasants out there#i have made my own speculoos spice blend and that worked perfect

Knitting a freehand bag and started wondering how often people even use patterns, anyway. So--how often do you use a pattern when you make things ? This include knitting/crochet/sewing/weaving/nalbinding/bobbin lace/tatting/etc but also things like woodworking, cooking, and baking. If you want to just pick the thing you do most often that's fine.
I personally do not use patterns as I find them far more confusing than just figuring out the construction of an item and simply making it. I do very occasionally browse ravelry for inspiration but have downloaded maybe 2. In the 5 or so years since I joined. And have followed exactly 1, which I modified every single aspect of. In my defense, dyslexia.
#poll#knitting#crochet#weaving#tatting#sewing#quilting#nalbinding#bobbin lace#cooking#baking#theres just SO MANY patterns out there and i kind of dont understand why... who is using them ???#they are so hard to follow even when written well#i get that thats dyslexia talking and not true for most people but it still baffles me#i also dont follow cooking/baking recipes but in a different way#the issue for crafting patterns is that i cant read and so i cant figure out what the hell im supposed to do#but recipes are usually lists and dont have tons of abbreviations and dozens of steps#so i can kind of read recipes but i just like doing my own thing and also have been burned by recipes before#so even if i try following the recipe as hard as possible i will inevitably change some things#like what about the whimsy. also i will use a butter wash after taking this out of the oven i dont care that it says eggs#and while i dont do legos anymore i was the same with that too. we got a kit once and my sister loved following each step#oh my god. the worst. i would covertly make other things with the remaining pieces while she assembled the thing#i do think that were i not dyslexic i would still not follow patterns#like i said i just prefer to do my own thing most of the time

i love to cook and i love food! i love cooking and i love eating! i love making food and then eating it! wait what do you mean i have to do this three times a day every day for my entire life and also dishes and grocery shopping and
#brought to you by i do genuinely really enjoy cooking but once ive cooked im like. ok im done now right. right#i made up a banger dish cobbled together from eight different recipes blogs that's healthy filling and satisfies my pickiness#what do you mean i now i have to figure out what to cook and eat AGAIN three hours later#also every recipe is written for like. feeding a table. what if im 23 and just feeding my own singular self#i made a really tasty kabocha squash gratin a couple weeks ago and the first two nights it was good#but by night three or four of kabocha squash gratin i was ill just looking at it and there was still an entire casserole dish of it left#and dont tell me to freeze things. the freezer is way full and it is also the place where food goes to get forgotten about#until the end of time or until its freezer burnt or until i get tired of playing jenga and just start tossing things#also you go grocery shopping you get healthy stuff like vegetables and then you make your meal and then you have to do it again#but by the end of week 2 your vegetables are bad. so now you're eating tuna rice again. or frozen broccoli in mac n cheese

I've referenced before how I have a big google document to keep track of every media I've ever seen in my entire life (just for reference because I like to track everything possible lol… I am the Data Collector), but recently as I was updating it, I thought of actually evaluating them to find out random percentages (like for example, out of Total Shows Watched, what percentage did I finish vs. stop watching, what percentage did I like or dislike, etc.)...
Evaluating these things is made easier by the fact that I already place everything on each subsection of the list into 6 broad ranking categories, so I don't have to go back and guess to figure out how I feel about them or anything. The categories are: Ranking 5 - overall best* (despite some criticisms of course because I'm too much of an Analyzer to ever find anything Perfect lol) Ranking 4 - more positive than neutral, but not good enough to be 5 Ranking 3 - either the good + bad negate each other, OR it's just not memorable/interesting in any way enough to be ranked higher or lower (this is the Default category ALL things are placed in if no other rank applies) Ranking 2 - maybe a few redeemable elements but largely more negatives than positives Ranking 1 - So bad that it circles around to being fascinating to observe in some way (not necessarily Funny, or Good, but just interesting somehow) Ranking 0 - Bad in a genuinely frustrating or obnoxious manner
*("best" primarily defined here as most interesting, rather than most good in a technical sense, or some other measure. I tend to value more highly whether there's something novel or thoughtful about the worldbuilding, tone, writing, base premise, etc - than about whether it's actually executed perfectly.)
And here's the amount of shows that have so far been placed into each category -
TV shows ~ Rank 5 (highest) - 20 shows ~ Rank 4 (mid-high) - 28 shows ~ Rank 3 (neutral/default/meh) - 114 shows ~ Rank 2 (mid low) -33 shows ~ Rank 1 (low low but intriguingly so) - 14 shows ~ Rank 0 (iredeemably low) - 2 shows
This would make for a total of 211 TV shows overall. However, there are 57 shows within these list marked as "didn't finish" (typically meaning I quit on the very first or second episode - but log them still to keep a record that I at least had a brief view of them).
So my total of genuinely fully watched shows would be more 154. 211 Total, but a More Accurate Total of 154.
Counting them all and using the Total Number Of The List (211) -- that means roughly 9.5% of all total shows I have ever watched (or at least attempted to watch) have been Mostly Good, 13% have been Moderately Okay, 54% have been either entirely Forgettable or some mix of good + bad that lands them right in the Neutral Middle, 15.6% have been Mostly Bad, 6.6% have been Bad (but in an interesting way), and 0.9% have been Terribly Bad.
Additionally, I didn't even get past the first two episodes of about 27% of the total.
Sooo, discounting ones I didn't finish, my total TV shows ever watched in my life would be about 154 (maybe give or take a few, assuming I might have forgotten some from very long ago).
But instead of entire life, let's just say this is the total for 'About 20 Years' (so, not counting very early childhood when I likely wouldn't remember things I saw/have no detailed recollection of them (like for example, I'm sure at some point when I was like 4yrs old I must have seen an episode of Spongebob or something, but I have zero distinct memories of it, can't quote anything of it, and barely recall the premise - so I don't count it on the list, etc.)).
In that case, 154 divided by 20 would be roughly 7.7 shows a year.
Which is actually surprisingly low considering that I often have stuff on in the background for hours whilst I make sculptures and do costumes and stuff (maybe I should have also marked some distinction between 'things I fully paid attention to' and 'things I kind of half listened to whilst sculpting', but that would further split the categories too much probably lol), but I guess a lot of that is youtube videos or random documentaries, so .. eh.. maybe I get it being lower.
Now, doing the same thing for movies-
Movies ~ Rank 5 (highest) - 4 movies (3.4% of total) ~ Rank 4 (mid-high) - 12 movies (10.3% of total) ~ Rank 3 (neutral/default/meh) - 91 movies (78.4% of total) ~ Rank 2 (mid low) - 8 movies (6.8% of total) ~ Rank 1 (low but interesting) - 1 movie (0.8% of total) ~ Rank 0 (irredeemably low) - none in this category (0%)
That makes 116 for a Total (Actually Remembered) Movies Watched In Lifetime (Or At Least In 20 Years).
116 divided by 20 is roughly 5 or 6 movies a year (I feel this has probably been skewed though by adding everything since like elementary school onwards, as I remember a lot more movies from child/teen years.. Whereas, the past 3 years I feel like I've barely seen maybe even 5 movies?? lol). I also have "Didn't Finish" marked on 18 of them. Which means I quit halfway through about 15% of the total movies.
So, a for broader summary stuff..
I seem to be less forgiving to movies than tv shows, by far. Which makes sense to me, I guess, because I love elaboration and details, so "short form" things that only last an hour or two are often lost on me a bit. My biggest complaint with movies is indeed usually walking away just wishing there had been more exposition, more scenes where characters are doing nothing, more "mindless bantering" conversations, more Quiet Downtime and Lore Elaboration and so on lol, so... of course most 1-2hr films end up feeling a bit Not Enough To Draw My Interest/Nothingy to me.
If you count 5 and 4 as "like" and rankings 2 to 0 as "dislike", then for TV shows I at least somewhat liked 48 of them, and at least somewhat disliked 47 of them.. So it's almost exactly the same lol. I'm just about equally as likely to find something bad as I am to find something redeeming about it. But overall, the largest chance is that I just won't really care much for it at all and it will be tossed into the 'neutral' pile, forgotten forever. Movies have a bit better of a balance, "liking" 16 of them, and "disliking" only 9 of them. So I'm slightly more likely to enjoy a movie than to find it annoying - though still VASTLY more likely to just not find it anything in particular, possibly not even finishing it.
ANYWAY.. this is vague and literally pointless, but like I said, I just really find information fun. Like my document where I've rated every apple flavor I've ever tried (like 40 of them now?), or reviewed every oreo flavor (32?), or ranking data from my entire 10 years of Trying To Make Friends process (out of 100 people, roughly 8% chance of a moderate compatibility, 3% chance of high), or etc. etc.. I love to have random pointless things to analyze I suppose lol.
I doubt anyone tracks things in their life in this same exact way, but I'd be interested in hearing any at least somewhat similar data !!! (like, how many TV shows you watch a year on average, and what percentage of those you like vs. dislike (if you keep track of that sort of thing), etc.)). I guess it might be easier with movies, since I think some people use those websites where you curate a list of movies you've seen and you can rate them or something, so maybe the numbers are already available on those places. :0
#maybe this is my version of spotify wrapped lol.. Lifetime Media Google Doc Wrapped.. kind of.. except I'm not going over specific titles.#I can't do this with music since I rarely EVER look for new music or add to my Youtube To MP3 folder library as I just don't really#listen to music that often. When I'm working (the majority of when I seek background noise) I need like.. people's talking voices#for some reason. Just instruments and singing are not distracting enough to me to work as background noise because theyre#almost TOO in the background if that makes sense? like if I put music on then I just tune it out and it's virtually no different#than if I were daydreaming stream of consciousness thoughts in an entirely quiet room lol. And I can't really do it with books since#essentially 100% of what I read is non-fiction. usually about some specific subject or academic topic OR stuff like#1800s magazines or cookbooks or historical people's diaries. Which is not really.. the type of thing I would#rank as easily I guess? like 'ooh yeah putting the sociology textbook in my top 5 hee hee right next to the 1920s radio recipes book' lol.#Then for games... I just sadly dont play enough of them. I've been banned from new games as I've told myself I cant play anyting#long form (no rpgs or etc) until I actually finish MY OWN game first - to keep me from wasting time. so on average#I play... 0 new games a year. ToT... I do play the sims sometimes but that's really all (which is not a new game at all since#I've been playing it on and off for years). Thus I guess movies/TV are really the only things that make sense#to collect this sort of information on. I could do youtube videos I guess also but that seems kind of strange like...#giving a rating to every single video I watch in a ranked list lol.. Especially since I would say a good 85% of the time#they are exclusively background noise whilst I'm working on something or cleaning the house or etc. and not things I pay serious attention#to. There are only a few specific topics/types/creators of videos I watch where I'm ACTUALLY sitting in front of a screen paying#direct attention to the content (usually when it's educational or political things). Everything else is too mindless to even rank.#ANYWAY... ever analyzing my little hermit Weird Relationship To Media (in the sense of seemingly not processing or getting the same#things out of it as many other seem to). I think that can contribute sometimes to the whole difficulty socializing and stuff#since our culture is very centered around media consumption generally speaking. People want to talk about The New Movie that came#out or The Big TV Show Of The Year. and for me it's like.. highly likely I just plain have NOT seen it. Or if i have. statistically#I most likely was entirely ambivalent if not slightly negative towards it lol. Which just kind of takes the steam out of a 'fun' 'casual'#conversation and you seem like a bit of a bummer if most of your only feedback is either 'idk what that is' or 'oh yea... i did#see that one.... i didnt like it all that much though... I think it'd be better with elves in it.. and 7 hours longer..'' lol..#Which I am not disliking things in a 'grr i hate it bc its popular'/just to be contrarian way. I actually dislike that mindset/find it#silly (by striving so hard to be counterculture you are thus still defining yourself by the whims of external culture - just in the#opposite direction. but are still just as preoccupied with the mainstream (going against it) as everyone else. etc. lol..)) In my#case I think it IS just having niche hyperspecific tastes.. for example- it peeves me when cell phones are in media bc I dont want to be#reminded at ALL of the real world. so.. cross off anything set in modern times. so on & etc. Judging all things by these weird criteria lol

Realized i forgot to post the other recipe card I made for this year's @mxtxfoodzine!
The templates for dusting the tarts and making cookies from scrap pastry dough can be found along with all the rest of the awesome stuff everyone made in the full zine, here!
Sign-ups for the 2025 zine are also open now ;)
Text for the recipe is under the cut since i know tumblr kills image quality and i probably should've used an easier to read font too (oops).
Frangipane Tarts
Ingredients:
one package puff pastry, thawed
1 ½ tablespoons butter, softened
⅓ cup plus 1 tablespoon white sugar
1 large egg
¾ cup almond flour
¼ teaspoon fine salt
⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional, but recommended)
3-4 tablespoons jam or fruit preserves of your choice
powdered sugar (Optional)
**cinnamon sugar (Optional)
Directions
1) Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F
2) Lay the sheets of puff pastry on a piece of parchment paper or silicone baking mat. Using a 3 inch circle cutter or the opening of a large drinking glass, cut an equal number of circles-2 for each tart. Depending on the size of your pastry, you should get enough for 5-6 tarts.
3) Using a 1 inch cutter or the smaller end of the glass, cut out a circle from half of your 3 inch circles so that you have a ring.
3) Lay the full circles out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat about 1-2 inches apart. Lightly moisten the edges with plain water, then place the rings on top. Prick the center of the bottom pieces with a fork, being sure not to get the outer ring.
4) Bake the pastries for 15 minutes or until it turns lightly golden brown. Reduce the oven to 375 degrees. Using a fork, press the centers of the tarts down to flatten them. Set aside.
5) Make the frangipane filling by creaming together butter and 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon of sugar with a spatula. Whisk in egg until creamy. Add almond flour, salt, vanilla and almond extracts and mix well.
6) Spoon about half a tablespoon of jam into the bottom of prebaked pastry shells. Divide the frangipane filling evenly among the tarts, spooning it on top of the jam.
7) Bake tarts for about 20-25 minutes or until the pastry shells are browned and the frangipane is set; it should be risen to about the same height as the shell. Remove from the baking sheet and let cool.
If desired, dust with powdered sugar for decoration, either completely, or using the template to create a cute shape!
**While the shells are baking, cut your scrap pastries into cookies with the templates or your own cookie cutters. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly, and make cinnamon sugar in a shallow dish by combining 2 tablespoons of sugar with half a tablespoon of cinnamon (or to taste). Gently coat the cookies in the cinnamon sugar mix, so that the pastry doesn’t lose its flakiness.
#quilleth draws#heaven official's blessing#mxtx food zine#i had a lot of fun splattering paint for that background xD#but also i need to make these again soon! they're yummy!#seriously the cinnamon sugar is to taste but i'm a gremlin and laugh at suggested amounts of cinnamon in most recipes#so you may want to use less if you are less of a warming spice fiend than me. it's very forgiving#you could also use a premade mix from the store but i am also cheap and just make my own mixes when needed

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if it works for you, don't let anyone shame you. Whatever it may be.
I've been shamed before because I have to microwave my drinks to make tea and coffee. I've boiled noodles in a rice cooker and someone just said to buy a pot. I only have 1 plate, 1 cup and 1 set of silverware for myself. I don't have a functional dishwasher. I've been shamed for using water for hot cocoa instead of milk when I couldn't afford it. I've had one pair of shoes for the past 7 years because they're not comepltley fallen apart yet.
Don't let someone shame you for the things that work for you. Don't let someone shame you for things that make you happy. They don't know your life.
Wheather you can't afford something, are homeless, just don't have the "normal" household items, the ability to get help, broken or worn down items, don't let anyone shame you for it.
If it's working for you, then it works. If it's not harming anyone, then it works. If you're still living your life finding ways around problems, then it works. You're making it work and that's all that matters.
Don't let anyone shame you for just trying to live.
#Going through some shit recently and I'm getting pissed off at how some people try to fix my life without actually helping#Had someone laugh at me today because I didn't know how to work a keurig coffee machine#I laughed at them because they didn't know how to grow their own food or make butter and mayonnaise or how to cook meals without a recipe#Idk if anyone will even read this but don't let people shame you for stupid stuff#You'll find a way to get by one way or another#brambles of rambles#I'm mostly writing this for myself because I'm tired of it happening and it's not like I can afford a therapist /silly

➥ Booberry Cream Pie
What you will need:
➟ 1 1/2 cup Blueberries ➟ 1 cup Blackberries ➟ 2 cups Banana Cream OR Vanilla Pudding* ➟ 1 whole container Whipped Cream* ➟ Mint Sprig, or a few extra berries for garnish ➟ Food Dye (optional) ➟ 1 Pie Crust* (can be homemade or store bought)
What to do:
➟ Make your favored pudding or empty out a few premade servings into a bowl. ➟ Blend berries together - strain out some of the bigger chunks (unless you'd prefer to keep them in, up to you) - then slowly stir them into the pudding. ➟ Fold in 1/4 of the container of whipped cream, repeat this step until container is empty and mixture is thoroughly blended. ➟ Mix in 2-3 drops of blue food dye (or red; or none at all; i just like blue for this) - it should be a light-medium color. ➟ Pour into prepared crust. ➟ Garnish with mint and/or berries however you like.
*for this recipe, I used a half and half mix of the two *you can use any whipped cream, sugar free, dairy, free doesn't matter *i used a premade chocolate-walnut crust, but this is up to preference
This is how it turned out for me:

I’m sorry to have an influencer moment on here but I’m not lying when I say that these Tomato Cheddar Toasts from NYT cooking are hands down one of the best meals I have ever cooked for myself in my entire life (and I’ve been cooking daily for like 12 years lol) and they take like five minutes, most of which is spent waiting for the bread to toast. The recipe is paywalled so I’ll just say you take cheddar cheese and shred it on the tiniest side of your box grater/microplane, then mix together a 1:1 ratio of mayo and cheddar. Then when the bread is piping hot from being toasted you spread it on there (like a tbsp or two per bread) and the heat causes them to melt together into this insane creamy tangy spread. Then top with tomatoes and salt.
I have been eating tomato toasts almost every day this summer and I thought I had my formula down pat, but then I tried these and it changed my world. Genuinely a contender for last meal on earth if I had to choose. I have eaten it with every single meal since I got back from my backpacking trip except one bc I was invited to a potluck. I know my username might make you think I’m just overzealous but please for the love of god if you eat dairy and gluten and love tomatoes (and have access to some good ones) I am begging you to try this. On the left is the recipe pic and on the right is one of the ones I made. and like it doesn’t matter if no one tries this I just want this in my tomato tag to commemorate this unbelievable toast because I’m in a new era of my life for real
#TOMATOES#tomatoposting#garden tag#food#recipes#<- for my own blog sorry#I’m so lucky to have space for an amazing huge tomato garden & the skill to do it well but if u like have one good tomato from the market#and want to do it justice…please consider#and literally this morning when I ran out of bread my entire day then revolves around either buying or making bread so I could eat this aga#in lol#nyt cooking#*revolved#honestly kind of insane that I’ve cooked a million billion meals that take so much more time and effort and yet this simple shit is like#theeeeeee pinnacle

From a previous poll it has been decided that Lan Wangji can cook, but the real question is....Can He Grill?
#poll#I was going to do my thing and make a funny comic on the poll results but....#people got a little heated at that one. Not a unbearable amount of spice but I do not want to kick up any dust more than I have#Anyways now that THAT poll is over I just wanna add my two cents and say that I think both *can* cook. It's a matter of poor generalization#WWX knows the core principals but doesn't see much point in the process of cooking especially if it's just for him. Faster meals are better#Eat the raw ingredients and go back to work kind of guy#LWJ can follow a recipe and has the patience to cook a nice meal but doesn't have that innate chef sense. Useless without recipe type cook#They simultaneously can and cannot cook. It's situation specific#That *just* my own thoughts though! There is evidence to suggest both can cook if they must and there's the funny avenue of saying#that the are Banned From All Kitchens Everywhere#Cooking is different from grilling though. This I must know#guaranteed comic at the end of this one. For real this time. Even if people get very salty

aaand here are the ficbits I started coalescing based on my previous concept post -- as a reminder: 00Q are together, Q takes Bond for granted/accidentally hurts his feelings slash breaks his heart by being unintentionally hurtful and also unthinkingly dismissive of the thing they have going on between them. there is more to it but these are the parts that coalesced
(as it says in the tin these are more so like the... vibes-based pre-alpha demo drafts of a fic, as opposed to anything so respectable as an actual drabble or ficlet. and, as such, some parts may perhaps be a bit overworked, tenses are all over the place probably, punctuation is more abt the vibes than actual grammar tbh- but anyway please enjoy our featured program, hot off my notes app presses-)

The thing is, even in hindsight, he’d be hard pressed to pinpoint what exactly he saw cross Bond's face… only that he was suddenly left feeling rather as if a door he hadn't even known was there had unceremoniously and quite ignominiously shuttered sharply in his face. /// [[only that he was suddenly rather left feeling as if he'd blithely walked into a door that materialized just to shutter quite ignominiously in his face.]?]
As it stands — and unfortunately far too late— as he desperately rolls back the last few moments to try to find- as it slowly, far to slowly, begins to dawn on him-
“007- Bond- wait, I,” was about all he managed to stammer out before Bond somehow manages to evaporate from sight, leaving him blinking at the afterimage of crisp suiting and unbreachable impassiveness.
Oh. Oh shit.
—
Eve took one look at him and immediately swept herself up from her desk and him away to - he paused to gather his bearings - what appeared to be an empty conference room.
“Well,” she said without preamble. “Out with it then.”
Q wrung his hands. “It's Bond,” he finally manages to get out. When is it not.
(maybe sth about a moment too long passed, then another, then another- and he admits. It's me, really, but it is also to do with Bond. / Eve is either not surprised or is waiting him out- no visible reactions one way or another yet)
////
I think he must have said something about anniversaries, and I joked back- or thought I was joking back- something about how he surely wouldn't be expected to keep track of all of his anniversaries like this, or else his rolodex would be fit to bursting. And then when I saw the expression on his face I hastened to reassure him that I certainly had no expectations on that front, ta very much. But it was entirely the wrong thing to say.
What he didn't - couldn't - confess to Eve was the way Bond had — oh, earnestly, seriously — brought up the subject of their upcoming anniversary, and how — yes, unintentional though it might have been, but nonetheless— absurdedly callous his casual dismissive burst of laughter must have been.
//
“…and speaking of, our anniversary is coming up too, you know.”
That accursed involuntary, misplaced, mocking peal of mirth. Then, worse- carelessly, unthinkingly- “Oh don't injure yourself on my account, I'm hardly expecting you to keep track of all of your little anniversaries from your various escapades, let alone ‘ours.’ Goodness, your little black book would be fit to bursting - well, even more so than it is now - if we're expecting you to note down anniversaries and nonesuch as well now.”
////
“Q,” Eve called after him. He paused and turned, saw her regarding him. “Be careful with him,” she finally said.
“You're the one who warned me off him in the first place!”
“Be that as it may, but., well. clearly James Bond deserves for you to take some care with him.” with his heart, goes unspoken, but certainly not unsaid
#00q#tbh. this is vanishingly unlikely to be fleshed out into a Im a Real Boy fic#it's already pretty amazing I got as far as fleshing out parts of the concept threads into like actual scene or scene precursors#if the previous post was like compiling the list of ingredients for a cookie dough#then this is like when you start mixing it together and parts of it have come together sure but as a whole your bowl of cookie dough isn't#quite ready yet#again if someone else feels inspired by the recipe and would like to make their own cookies. yes pls and also pls share#I need more (mixing my metaphors back to the common fandom one) cakes of this genre of flavor in my life
