Something I miss from earlier eras of the creative side of the internet was things just being unabashedly low-budget. Just all unashamedly amateur, unprofessional, ‘I don’t own a good camera but I have a story to tell you’, ‘I can’t afford a good mic but I have a song to sing for you,’ ‘I don’t have any kind of background in editing or lighting and I only just picked up this guitar last Tuesday but here’s an entire musical me and my friends wrote about our favourite book, we filmed it on a potato and put it up on YouTube in ten minute segments because we thought it was pretty funny.’

do you guys fucking remember when music artists actually made or commissioned people to make song/album art for them instead of resorting to ugly ass AI slop?
i swear, it's always the artists with more money too. bring me the horizon keeps using AI art even though they basically shit money. incredibly popular artists that can very well pay artists using AI images to reduce costs. actually fucking sucks so bad. it just makes your song stand out way less

Honestly I am still equal parts impressed and amused that REO Speedwagon's 1981 hit Take It In The Run is one of the best models for how to healthily address conversations about infidelity in contemporary(ish) pop culture.
Heard is from a friend who/Heard it from a friend who/Heard it from another you been messin' around
Establishes the conversation topic as well as why the topic is on the singer's mind
They say you got a boyfriend/You're out late every weekend/They're talkin' about you and it's bringin' me down
Details of the behavior that is causing the singer concern and the impact those rumors are having on his emotions
But I know the neighborhood/And talk is cheap when the story is good/And thr tales grow taller on down the line
Establishes that the singer recognizes the fallibility of rumor and is not immediately accusing his partner of cheating
But I'm telling you babe/That I don't think it's true babe
Establishes that the singer is willing to trust his partner in spite of people's talk
And even if it is keep this in mind
Denotes that a (potentially difficult) boundary conversation is about to be begun
You take it on the run baby/If that's the way you want it baby/Then I don't want you around
Clearly states the singer's personal boundaries - he acknowledges his partner's full agency to pursue whatever dynamics they wish, while unequivocally stating that if those dynamics include infidelity then he will not continue being in a relationship with them
I don't believe it/Not for a minute/You're under the gun/So you take it on the run
Reaffirms previous statements that the singer sees the rumors as only rumors unless they're proven otherwise, and also reaffirms the singer's firm relationship boundary
And like...this kind of clear and non-confrontational conversational framework is the sort of conflict resolution style most people have to be coached on to do well. The person from whose POV Take It On the Run is sung from has an unexpectedly mature approach toward talking about relationship conflicts.

Tbh... I don't think TOH should get a pass for it's shoddy plot just because some of the stuff that happens within the plot invokes an emotional response in people.
First of all, people react to concepts with varying degrees of emotional intensity based on what they like and/or their life experiences. Secondly, you can still create resonate moments with a good plot lmao.
There is no reason TOH should get a pass for making Belos a non threat for most of Season 1 just because people think x, y, z moment is wholesome or whatever.

online songs -
after accidentally mistyping the link to a youtube video while searching for a history documentary online, daisy mae denton stumbles across the page of cover artist kendall knight and finds herself captivated by his effortless talent and unforgettable voice. commenting on one of his videos leads her down a path to a whole new technological world she has no idea how to navigate, making the friendship she so desperately wishes to cultivate seem nearly impossible. online friends shouldn’t be as hard to make as real ones, she decides, and the blooming feeling in her chest whenever her computer chimes with a new message notification is perfectly normal.
lucky for her, kendall finds the small essay in the middle of his comment section strange, but endearing, even if the person who wrote it speaks as though they’re from a different time. a series of bad luck had left him considering putting his guitar down altogether, searching for ways he could help his family out through more traditional means, before he receives a direct message from a charming stranger, who inspires him to continue chasing his dream.
tysm @partiallypearl for letting me squeal about this in your dms !! so excited to see what you’re cooking up 👀
