so i don't want to show my ENTIRE hand with inutile. and i'm sure the mystery is part of the Fun of it. so instead of me spelling out everything one-by-one. for now i'm just going to ask You a bunch of questions :) and i hope you have fun extrapolating based on how you answer these to yourself!

weird to say but uh. spoilers for my fic below. also isat spoilers. but i feel like if you're reading my fics and isat spoilers bother you then there's another problem happening

so the first thing is just taking inutile at face value - it's a mirabelle looping fic with a few canon divergences. but also if i wanted to do that straight i could have just started with the loops. there's nothing in inutile i've brought up that couldn't be explained in a few flashback chapters, so at first glance it's like... why?what's so important about following mirabelle this far back from canon?

you may notice that siffrin in this fic is being set up with INSANE main character energy. in-game they're written primarily like they're a late-game addition to a long RPG. but in inutile it's like. ohhh you're literally a star from the sky you're so special you're cool and mysterious. you have beef with the euphrasie and the king pre-canon. and yet this entire thing is from the mirabelle POV.

it almost makes you think. why does mirabelle have to be here for this? if i'm worldbuilding the islanders as being Cool Literal Sky People what is mirabelle here for? why is she necessary?

yes, she's necessary because she's a sponsor, isn't she? but she's not a sponsor because she's special. she's the one that called siffrin down to earth. she was lonely and dragged someone out of their home to be her friend. siffrin kind of needs her to function, and because she can't help them function in the capacity she's supposed to, he's basically going through a non-looping version of act 5 in the house.

Serious Hellfire gala spoilers incoming those who care avert your eyes. But I have something to say

It seems extra heinous to me that after prodigy’s last significant appearance (the first hellfire gala) was widely criticized for portraying his death and remains in such a way, this happened. Just the most brutal, horrible death imaginable at the worst possible time. Not that the other deaths weren’t horrible, but David’s felt particularly vindictive given his history. And since the team was ALL “voted” members, they kind of put some the responsibility on fans who voted for their favorite x men to get literally slaughtered. It’s not just sad or even gross, it’s cruel.

I feel like David was only on the ballot at all to get back at people who were (rightly!) upset with how horrible his earlier death was. And as others have said, presenting one of the most diverse x-teams of all time only to brutally murder them seconds later feels like a bigoted decision.

Not to mention the fact that Juggernaut seemed to survive by virtue of being invulnerable, but Joanna did get killed by it. Same plot armor that saved a white man didn’t help the black woman.

my most controversialist opinion is that mothers with internalized misogyny contribute a lot to men acting entitled, AKA the boymom phenomenon. i've seen this SO much in my own life and at work. no one is born with an entitled attitude, especially towards women. the reason a lot of men seem to have this attitude is because a lot of mothers, as learned from their own mothers, consider their sons more important and deserving of love than their daughters, and may even view their daughters as competition.

and you may now be wondering "well what about fathers with the same mindset", and I think the main difference is treatment; a father, seeing himself as the authority of the family, imposes higher expectations on the son. this is more likely to result in insecurity than entitlement.

obviously this is majorly generalizing but it's in line with the mindset in a 'traditional' nuclear family at the very least, even if not acknowledged. gender roles are socially constructed but social constructs still impact behavior and how people see themselves and others.

and it does not always result in entitlement in men. my mom is a 'boymom' but my brother is quite embarrassed by it and would prefer she treat him like me.

hi sorry (one of the previous wumph anons): this is completely random and there’s no need to answer this but… you said you got a lot of anons on the topic. What was the general consensus on the whole phenomenon among them?

Just to contextualize this ask: I recently mentioned how the whump community (known for romanticizing the extreme anguish, torture, and trauma of fictional characters) has an abnormally high amount of members who identify as trans men. And more interestingly, that almost all the characters whose anguish this community romanticizes are male as well. Many radical feminists have subsequently discussed why this might be.

I can’t say there is much of a consensus at all. Most theories I received as to why this community almost exclusively romanticizes the anguish of male characters were vastly different, and at times, outright contradictory. However, here are the most common ones:

-It’s a homoerotic fetish. This is an obvious and uncomplicated conclusion to draw; most members of the whump community are simply girls who fetishize male homoerotic dynamics. This effectively explains why the whumpee, the whumper, and even the caretaker are most frequently all male characters.

-Readers have too much compassion for female victims. Many radfems expressed that female anguish is too reflective of reality—especially considering most whump themes are forms of abuse that, outside of fiction, females are the primary victims of. The result is an uncomfortable degree of realism in which female readers may involuntarily project themselves onto the victimized female character. Therefore, replacing the victimized female character with a male helps to dilute the degree of realism and create a necessary distance between the reader and character.

-Readers lack compassion for female victims. Other radfems including myself feel that whump consumers fixate on male victimization because female victimization is expected, eroticized, and trivialized—meaning, female-coded anguish is only recognized as horrifying and emotionally compelling when experienced by a male character. Essentially, female victimization titillates the audience, but male victimization is treated rightfully as a horrific and traumatic incident. Thus, the appeal for male victims is an obvious conclusion; only then is trauma and violence treated as it should and only then is the victim truly treated as a victim.

-Male victims are an intriguing reversal of gendered expectations. Self-explanatory. A handful of radfems stated that seeing a male character in a vulnerable, victimizing, or compromising situation might be an intriguing reversal to the assertive and combative male character archetype. This is a convenient answer, except that it fails to explain why the abuser (or whumper) in these scenarios is still male and not female, considering that a female abuser would also constitute as an intriguing reversal of gendered expectations.

-Male characters are generally more compelling. Again, some radfems have stated that male characters are simply better written, but I find this another highly convenient yet fallacious theory. In my opinion, this is an oversimplified analysis in which female readers fail to consider how deeply, unconsciously, and invisibly their internalized misogyny actually runs, and instead choose to project that internalized misogyny onto the author. I elaborate more on this here.

-Male victims are vicarious revenge for misogyny. This was the rarest and most conflicting answer. Only three radfems expressed that seeing male characters in victimizing situations operates as a form of imagined revenge for either the male character’s machismo or the machismo of real-life men. This is unconvincing not only because of the obvious fact that female readers adore these victimized male characters, but also because the main appeal of this genre appears to be sympathizing and rooting for the male victim. An anonymous asker articulated the issue with this theory quite nicely:

You know, when you put it that way I think you have a point. It's ludicrous to think two queer men can co-habit in the same unit without climbing all over each other and outing themselves. Jikookers must've been deaf, blind, all thinking faculties out to lunch when Jungkook talked about how Seven is autobiographical (the female subject in the song not being just a technicality). Expecting Jungkook of all people to go days, weeks, and months on end without fucking his main squeeze is kinda nuts ngl. Especially when everybody knows gay men are overly promiscuous, deviant, sex-addicted sons of Lucifer who just happen to look good in perms and eyeliner. Also, your point about how there's no private time in the military is a godsend because it just reminded me of a curious phenomenon that happened this year. I noticed it happened maybe two or three times this year when ARMYs and even people tangentially related to ARMYs collectively hallucinated seeing Seokjin and Hoseok outside the military base. In fact, this is what's convinced me beyond all reasonable doubt that BTS's fandom is a cult.

Jikookers must be dumb, high, or both to think it's a good thing for jikook to possibly mean more to each other and still choose to enlist together under the Buddy program. Clearly it's unthinkable for a couple to weigh the strength they could gain by being together, as more important than the risk of being caught in an explicitly compromising situation. It's silly of jikookers to think companionship can happen in all sorts of ways even while in the military; and flat out ridiculous of them to believe that jikook at the end of the day started out as friends, have been through some of their most life-defining moments together, and are still one of the closest pairings in BTS.

Extrasensorial Powers Genetics and Why Most Espers are Men

A classic question brought up by people who are just starting to learn about basic parapsychology is: “why are most espers male?”. While this phenomenon is partially caused by research bias and poor media coverage, specialists affirm that it has a concrete answer in one of the largest subsections of the paranormal studies field: psychogenetics.

The manifestation of ESP (extrasensorial powers) is influenced by several factors, which are divided into external (trauma, stress, background, culture, etc.) and internal factors (genetics, brain chemistry, personality, etc.). Although genetic inheritance is only a part of what determines if an individual is an esper, it plays an important role in making the development of ESP possible in the first place.

The genetic portion of ESP is polygenic - that is, controlled by several genetic variants, each one with its own small effect. The main genes that interfere in the presence or absence of psychic powers are commonly referred to as E gene (or expressor gene) and K gene (or key gene). The E gene is responsible for a major part of the development of ESP, by linking the nervous system with excess soul energy stored near the telencephalon. On the other hand, the K gene stimulates an abnormal cerebral development, which in turn allows the organism to awaken and control ESP.

Even though these genes are directly related, they have different inheritance modes. The E gene is located on the x chromosome and follows a X-linked recessive inheritance; this means that the mutation will only affect people who have it on all of their X chromosomes. As a consequence, it happens much more often to men, as most of them have only one X chromosome that can be affected. In turn, the K gene has an autosomal dominant inheritance, which means that any person with an active K gene will express it and pass the mutation to their children. Because these genes are only activated through a mutation and depend on each other to work, most of humankind never develops ESP.

All of this makes it harder for women to meet the biological criteria for ‘awakening’, as not only they would have to have an active E gene on both of their X chromosomes, but also an active K gene somewhere. Thus, a greater proportion of natural espers are men, while many women acquire psychic powers as a consequence of prolonged stress and social pressure.

Something I find super interesting when it comes to the way Durgetash is depicted in fanwork, is how differently it gets depicted in terms of power dynamics depending on whether it is a male Durge or a female Durge.

Most people do seem to very much agree that Durgetash is an inherently toxic ship - where the fun of the ship is that it is toxic. I very much agree with that.

However, the thing I find very interesting, is the fact that Gortash x female Durge tends to have a dominant, sadistic Gortash with a more submissive Durge, while Gortash with a male or even non-binary Durge (though I have only seen like two or three of the latter kind) tends to end up with a submissive Gortash and a dominant Durge. And that is... very fascinating to see.

Fascinating, because it kinda does fit into the entire Dark Romance theme there, and into societal expectation, that women have to be submissive to men, and also cannot want sex and stuff. (It is a whole big research area apparently for sociologists.)

And now, judging by anything but the main tags on Ao3 is not perfect. Because a lot of people do not properly tag the kinks and stuff in their fics. (And just to note this down here: Please tag your kinks when you write smut. For one, it helps people with those kinks to find them, but also it helps those for whom these are squicks to avoid them. Just please.)

Generally there are about 1700 Durgetash fics on Ao3. Of those about 830 are E-Rated. (Not a big surprise.) Generally speaking most Ao3 Durgetash fics are M/M (probably because canon Durge is male), though generally speaking F/M is not that far behind - even though of course the statistic can be a bit messy due to some fics having multiple categories attached. If you just look at the E-Rated fics the Categories look like the right image.

Now, as I said, a lot of folks don't properly tag all the kinks and stuff in their fics. Just for general reference: The ten most common tags in those E-Rated Durgetash fics are like this:

Now, the interesting thing happens, when I go "Sub Enver Gortash".

Suddenly there is only 20 fics left (again, I do assume if people actually tagged this stuff there would be more), but the statistic looks like this:

While before M/M and F/M with the ship were kinda comparable, now... Well, now it isn't.

Meanwhile, when I use the tag "Dom Enver Gortash" instead, I end up with 51 fics and this line up:

And as I said... It is fascinating. I do not meant that in any judgemental way, but it is a really interesting ship to see this phenomenon on.

I saw Moonracer was the only femme bot on your main team, how dose she feel about being the only girl?

Well, she is not technically a girl/female, nor are any of the other bots male, cybertonains are physically, socially, mentally, and societally genderless. The cyerbtornian language does not have pronouns that indicate separate genders because gender isn't really a concept on Cybertron beyond it being known as a phenomenon common in a lot of organic alien races, and even that is not common knowledge among most bots. 

Going by specific pronouns or being preserved as a specific gender is very new to the earth-bound cybertronians, Most bots will go along with whatever humans assume they are. That doesn't mean some bots don't have preferences on what they are referred to as, but most don't care, especially the ones not invested in human/earth culture. 

It’s also very common for bots to have trouble telling the difference between male and female humans because the difference between men and women seems very subtle compared to the massive amount of variety in shape and size cybertroians have. Adding on that a nonbinary human doesn't really have any obvious physical tell and human gender is confusing even for bots invested in human culture.

Moonracer does prefer to be called she. Even if she doesn't fully understand the concept of human gender, her interest, appearance and how she presents herself would be considered more feminine by human standards so she prefers to be referred to by pronouns that traditionally reflect that.

A very good point and I'm fully aware. Thanks for the reminder- the only reason I didn't mention other groups is that I was talking specifically about the whole "women drove men away from the left" phenomenon. But it's so true: this applies to pretty much any group that's been fighting for rights, and we're all dealing with different sorts of oppression with different attacks and nuances. And many of them have indeed already started- see also: the women dying because they're refused lifesaving miscarriage care due to restrictive anti-abortion laws (which definitely could happen to transmasc and NB people, too, of course- while closely tied to systemic misogyny, reproductive rights affect anyone with a uterus).

To the Right, it's white and Identity Politics, straight and Identity Politics, male and Identity Politics, cis and Identity Politics, Christian and Identity Politics, etc. There's a space for talking about our individual issues, but in practice all of us need to fight for...well, all of us. Because dividing us is one of our enemies' favorite tactics.

Nettles, Rhaenyra, Laena, Mysaria, and the Prize that is DAEMON TARGARYEN

Now, I'm not going to sit here and police shipping. I'm also not going to act as though better writers and thinkers long before me haven't talked about the same phenomenon of centring men in women's narratives as a way to value the women. However, as a person in this fandom, I do want to apply this thought to the shipping discourse of Daemon Targaryen because it has become exhausted.

We treat this man as though he's the prize to gain when these women are in relationships with him. In the sense that when Daemon picks these women to have a relationship with they gain a value and devalue the women he leaves behind. We see this with him going:

from Rhea and Mysaria to Laena.

He finally has a Valyrian bride who matches his spirit and can give him Valyrian children. They get along and are of equal standing.

From Laena to Rhaenyra.

He moves on, finds real happiness, finds his true family, becomes the Targaryen he was destined to be with his Targaryen bride at his side, and their Targaryen children with his real family

From Rhaenyra to Mysaria .

Rhaenyra became mournful and wasn't as she once was. Him and Mysaria just have this connection, and Rhaenyra approves.

From Rhaenyra and Mysaria to Nettles.

Daemon finally found someone he could look past himself for. The singers say they end up together. He does all of this and leaves the Rhaenyra to her death because Nettles left. He's finally ready to settle down and grow old. She saved him.

All of this is an overgeneralised hyperbole of conversations I've seen, but they always centre Daemon choosing these women to be in a relationship with as their biggest accomplishment in the narrative. Him at their side is the biggest deal, and when he leaves them, they are discarded and replaced by his new love interest.

The issue with this

Prioritising a man, this man, as the main factor in these relationships, discredit the women who exist outside of him and make it seem as though he's the only thing that adds value to them. The language being used, in short, dismisses their personhood and equates them to something he can own, discard and replace at whim, and he alone adds value to them. It's icky language especially with his game card.

Lady Rhea: wasn't even her choice. She hated him and refused to give him an heir to inherit Runestone. In the show, she makes sure he returns and kills her by insulting his sexual prowess.

Mysaria: is complicit and involved in his worst action but always ensures she pulls herself up with it. Being his courtesan made her wealthy, almost made her his wife. Then she's complicit in blood and cheese and gets herself promoted to the Lady of Whispers to the Queen, eventually putting an end to him.

Laena: CLAIMED THE LARGEST DRAGON IN THE WORLD AS A TEEN. Is quite literally the mother of the girls that survived the Dance. Her blood inherits her house's seat.

Rhaenyra: Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Had men avenge her death, and her son sat on the iron throne after her.

Nettles: created the religion that forged the most dangerous tribe in the Vale of Arryn. Claimed a wild dragon and committed alleged treason and escaped.

I'm not saying Daemon isn't important. I'm not saying he doesn't play a part. I'm saying that when we have these conversations about him and these women and the progression of his relationships with them, I hope we can reach a place where the idea that he leaves them isn't a jab or joke against one woman for the sake of the one he chooses. It's getting strange.

Women don't lose value because of a man. Ever.

This also applies to Baela and her adaptation in the show. She isn't uninteresting because she isn't a tomboy or like Daemon. They make her a political girl in the show and like Laena. That's not a loss. She's modelled after Rhaenys as well. She's just reflective of the women in her life. I'm sure she'll have a relationship to Daemon as well, but she's the Ward of Driftmark. That's quite interesting. We also have tomboys like Alysanne and Sabitha, so we aren't in a deficit by any means.

Discussion of art as a commodity and the suppression of creativity in a capitalistic society -We are told that the only art that is worth making is financially successful art. Young artists aren't encouraged to change the world anymore. -Companies don't want to take risks and invest in art that might not be successful (this is why we're getting so many remakes of movies or the sort of Marvel franchise phenomenon) -"The most talented, creative, young person you know will be doing the flat design for some internet company" -Consumerism overshadowing art. I can see why some people are criticizing the interview, labeling it as a sort of "intellectual circle jerk", but there were a lot of interesting insights into how Matty operates in terms of both his art and his ideologies if you give it a chance. It's pretentious at points, I'll admit that, but he's honestly really smart and I think it would be silly to overlook that because of the way he delivers some of what he says. I do think he makes a lot of good points about art amidst major, unprecedented societal shifts, but it can get lost in the way he talks. It’s worth a watch <3
