it will, it's just taking a while cause of life events and me working on original projects (and also putting more attention on four eyes since it's my active fic right now). i don't really have an ETA but it is happening!

Something that I didn't realize until I was reviewing it to get Odile's tone correct for something else is that susquest really does just cement how much Odile genuinely cares about and trusts Siffrin. Like--yes, obviously, she accuses him of lying (because they are lying), but also... I'm trying to picture how the crafting of that theory went.

Like, realistically picture it: You're fighting this evil king who's trying to freeze a country in time. He showed up with no preamble, out of nowhere, from a country that doesn't exist, with motives that are completely incomprehensible.

Some time into your journey, this rogue character with no discernible motives or goals shows up, takes out an enemy you were fighting with relative ease, and tags along for seemingly no reason. They have no background, no home country or allegiances to speak of, no connections or history whatsoever. He is evasive and plays it off as mere forgetfulness, but there's no way someone can forget that much of their life and still be as functional as he is.

You're suspicious of them off the bat, though the suspicion dies down as they gain your trust and show genuine care for other members of your party. Maybe he is hiding something, but it seems more likely from your perspective that he's just reserved. He has earned your trust and your care through his actions and selflessness--even allowing himself to come to grievous harm to protect another party member.

You reach the end of your journey, and you enter the dungeon that leads to your final enemy. Up until now, your rogue has been struggling with forgetfulness, adjusting to a new lack of depth perception and massive blind spot, has been generally socially awkward, but has overall seemed thoroughly happy-go-lucky up until this point. Now, he is suddenly frighteningly competent, moves through combat with an ease he didn't possess even before he lost his eye, is acutely aware of his role in conversations, and carries an air of bitterness you have never seen in him before.

More alarmingly, they know the entire dungeon like the back of their hand, possessing information that even your Housemaiden (who lived here for years) didn't know about the building. They don't seem surprised by ANY of the information you learn as you traverse the dungeon, and most damningly, they speak with the King (who has the same accent, same features, who also showed up out of nowhere with seemingly no history until that point) as if they know him and his motives intimately.

It feels like the automatic assumption from her perspective should be: My trust was misplaced. Siffrin is, indeed, a spy or assassin sent by the King--or, at least, he used to be. He has been here before. He may have even set up these obstacles in our path. I was wrong to give them the credit that I placed in them, they have been lying to us this entire time and had bad intentions going in. My party is in danger.

Instead, Odile--who is brilliant, who would insist that she wouldn't let herself be swayed by mere sentiment--examines all of this information, looks at Siffrin, and decides: No, that can't possibly be it. I trust Siffrin. I care deeply about Siffrin. And because I know him enough that I have allowed myself to care for him, I know that there is no way he could have possibly betrayed our trust like that. He's part of my family. There simply must be another explanation--even if that explanation is so outlandish and impossible that even considering it would be ridiculous.

But because it's Siffrin, I suppose I have no other option.

And then she's right.

buuut also if you haven't read four eyes because you didn't want to read a non-linear story... the fic can now be read uninterrupted in chronological order from the beginning! so if you want to read it like that, i'm going on a little hiatus, you can catch up before the finale!

odile is really smart and perceptive and caring but she’s also condescending and indelicate and not used to having people she cares about other than like her dad. so she’s not really gonna have the experience to know what to do in tricky interpersonal situations.

like yknow the post that went around like “it’s kinda messed up for the party to confiscate siffrin’s dagger to stop them from self harming, he’s a grown adult and he needs to be able to defend himself and taking one method away doesn’t even fix the problem”? odile is the one confiscating a grown adult’s weapon bc fuck she has to do something but she hasn’t exactly read the tumblr guides about what to do if a loved one self harms, why would she have ever read those. while mira and isa are dithering about the best feelings talk approach, odile came up with a logical strategy and she’s sticking to it until she has a logical reason to do otherwise.

inutile: the finale's coming out when it comes out. it's probably a 1/3-1/2 of the way there? i'm going slow on it because mirabelle deserves it. but it'll come out on the first mirabelle monday after i finish it

four eyes: update this friday and next friday, but not on august 1st, because i will be on a business trip. it may take a week after that for updates just because travel's kind of hard on me and i'm pivoting to work on more original stuff instead
