8x01 Buzzkill

It wasn't such a terrible episode. Once I muted Captain Jerk and skipped Twizzler. Although why he was at what I'm guessing was Chris's birthday party is beyond me. But whatever. It could have been a lovely Buckley-Diaz family moment but there is plenty of time for that once Twix is off my screen for good. And Chris is back where he belongs.

I really liked the firefighting. And the FireFam being competent and funny and a team. We got Buck's facts and Chim's references and Hen's being a badass medic and Eddie being the unwilling hero. And the ending is intriguing. I hope this means early retirement for Captain Jerk.

Josh's face at Gerrard's asshatery was really something. He was so on a second strike. One more assine comment and he would have strangled him through the headset. I love Josh.

I appreciate they made Athena flying a prisoner all over the place somewhat plausible. Although cop!Athena remains my least favourite Athena still. Loved Bobby and his exasperation at the assignment. I wonder whether we actually get to meet Jones and Sanchez.

I adored the Wilsons and Hans. They are all such great parents. And this only strengthen my believe that Madney should definitely foster. And the kids are all kinds of adorable.

I enjoyed the Buckley siblings working on a problem from two sides. Putting those smarts and hearts of gold to the best use.

I was dreading it a little bit, after the stills but it could have been worse.

How could Chimney ever think his love with Maddie could fizzle out? That woman dared to believe again in romantic love for him, trained herself to accept his and their baby’s love after going through hell and back, she found meaning and a purpose in the words ‘I love you’ for him, even when they had made her cry in the past.

Chimney followed her trail after she left, without stopping or even thinking, yet put a stop to his impulsiveness when he realized she needed to heal. He let her heal, then reconnect with Jee – he put their baby first.

Maddie came back, embarrassed but triumphant. Alive. She stepped aside in their relationship because she realized they were both in pain.

They never fell out of love, though, and managed to move forward together. Take each other’s hand once again, even hesitantly, and believe in the power of will.

They moved back in together, then Chimney found a house he loved, and Maddie set herself to rebuilt it with him, even if she didn’t love it herself. Even scared.

She said yes to him, even before he even said yes to her.

Maddie believed in marriage with Chimney, even after years of not believing in it at all. Not for her, anyway.

That woman was ready to do the forever dating thing, aware that it would be tiring and dutiful, but she was willing and excited because he wanted to do it.

C’mon Chim, don’t be silly. That woman’s your forever after!

🌵; oh, i like this one! okay so...

i vibe with this hardcore; dark with horny/religious overtones by spinejackel. i've had it saved for a long time, and it's such a well curated playlist for some really angsty and dark shit with a slide towards oh they gonna fuck underneath it all. i do like it for darker topics, but also, i find it vibes really well for just writing. at least in my case.

🧃; i don't really honestly have a lot of 'lore' so to speak; i'm a sad hermity little introvert who basically exists in a bubble. but... when i was 21 i became something of a caregiver for my eldest nephew during a difficult time my older brother & his then gf (my now SIL) were having post-partum. as much as i adored that squishy little munchkin, it was also the time i realised that i wasn't going to pro-create in any fashion and kind of clued me in on the whole asexual thing i had going on. anyway. the fam is doing way better now, i have 3 amazing little squishy niblings (gn) and no intention to use these torture devices doctors insist on calling necessary to make any other human beings.

“Mom’s view of magic has always been skewed,” Maddie admits quietly, cuddling into Chim’s side, drawing patterns on the palm of his hand where she had it held close to her waist. “Evan doesn’t remember but—They hid a lot, but not everything, but Evan’s always done the opposite of what they wanted anyway, I was so sure too, when I left home, that they were wrong and I’d prove it.” Chim knows the mentality; a parental figure having such a stubborn view, such a rigid outlook, so going in the opposite direction if only to prove a point. His father’s issue was with America in general, how different the culture is, how biased the judicial system was. Chim can’t comment too much on if his life would’ve been better had he returned to Korea following his mother’s passing, but his drive to prove his absent father wrong, to show him that abandoning his wife was the wrong choice to make, that was what drove Chim to build the best life he could in America, with the Lee’s and eventually, his firefighting family.

I see your Madney and would like to throw Bathena into the mix. They were both traumatized before and after they started their relationship. And I would dare to say, it only made the bond stronger.

on the topic of buddie and “you need to be fully healed to enter a new relationship” my counter argument is literally madney.

if you want an example of someone who was not (and is still not) fully healed and deals with their trauma every day and someone who stands by them, understands what they need and when, and who helps them to be better every day, maddie buckley and chimney han are right there.

8x06 Confessions

Hallelujah, he is gone!!

I'll admit, I skipped the whole scene and while I hate that it was not-so-sexy lamp doing the breaking up, he is gone and that is all that matters. Though Buck is yet again left just having relationships happen to him. He better get some fucking agenda finally. You know, like choosing Eddie.

I loved Josh's speech. The Glee mentions were really over the top and while I see how the show had had impact, it was ultimately a dumsterfire and this mention felt a bit like the show stroking Ryan Murphy's overinflated ego. But what is new. If you take away that, the speech was really lovely and maybe something that more people than just Buck needed to hear.

I loved the first emergency. It was funny.

I hoped the kid in the well would tie into Buddie but whatever. While I love Maddie and Chim having another kid. I really dislike their insistence on giving them a biological one. Given that Maddie is already pregnant I understand why she would dismiss adoption. But I really hoped after Mara, the writers would have them foster. I am disappointed in this direction. But what can you do. But I loved, loved, loved the acting and also the way they handled it as characters.

As for Eddie. The lady doth protest too much, methinks. The closet is not only glass, the doors are open.

But I actually really enjoyed this story and Ryan did such an amazing job. Both with the confession and then with the risky business. They finally let him dance. If only a little. Their moods in the end scene were at odds but I do think it speaks volumes that Buck just wanted to be with Eddie in that moment.

Another thing, when Josh was asking all the question about tree #3, I was thinking, Do you see that you are talking about Eddie? Do you?

Overall, not as much as we hoped for. But not a complete loss. Just the pacing was a little wonky and it felt like we missed a handful of scenes that would have given a better context. It felt as though it was written by KR. Which is never a good sign. But it had its moments.
