I actually have 2 "self inserts" (quotes because while Cali started that way he's def grown into his own character at this point), though I don't really use them all that much. At least not in the self insert sense of "oh this is happening to ME personally" y'know?? I see Vincent (second self insert/paraself) more of as a "representation" as me, sort of like an avatar in a video game. He is the customized character that looks out of place in dramatic cutscenes lol.

Getting back on topic, I usually daydream through/"interact" with my paracosms by using other paras. I'm sort of like you, all attempts somehow fail and end up with a "new" para. Like rn my current parame, Neil, is SO very different from me in terms of both backstory and personality (esp his Canon!Self, which has been getting focus as of late). But he is how I interact with MaaC currently (the paracosm in which he's from), my opinions/feelings towards other paras are shaped/based on how they treat him/his views on them, etc.

I’m really curious AGAIN.. I have a single world that all the silly characters are in and small things change for AU’s. Even then I know a lot of people have stuff from other media instead of something from scratch (??)

To those who answer YES.. Is it a self insert of some kind? Maybe even an idealized version of yourself? HUMAN?!?

To those who answer NO.. Is it specific characters maybe from certain media or OC’s? Is there a certain reason to why you aren’t part of it?

If anyone cares for my answer : No, there is actually nothing I have with ME in it. Any if not all attempts at being myself takes a turn and I swap myself out with an OC somehow?!? My silly little brain world is if you took the earth and added two more countries to it. Then daydream wise every person is just me projecting.. whoops..

Ive been wanting to ask systems this for a while. As of recently I’ve come to realize the majority of what I’ve considered to be maladaptive daydreaming is actually just internal system shit that I have way less control/influence over than I realized. I’m super curious if anyone else has similar experiences or if they consider those to be completely separate experiences.
