Hello folks, it's Miles here! You may know me as the guy who deduced what Rayman is snorting in episode 5 of Captain Laserhawk! And today, I'll be going over how...
There Are 6 Types of Magic in LEGO Monkie Kid
You can honestly stop here if you don't want to get into the most convoluted stuff ever. If you're vaguely interested but don't have much time, click read more and scroll down to Red Son, because he's where shit gets interesting.
A disclaimer! I've literally never broken down or written a magic system before, I'm just like. writing down and making sense of what I've noticed while watching the show. If you disagree with my assessment of a character's magic, think there's a better term for something I've described, or think I'm just plain wrong, please let me know so I can update the post! I don't know what I'm doing, and I've never looked into magic systems before!
An important thing to note is that LEGO Monkie Kid adheres somewhat to the power systems in Chinese mythology, so I will be bringing up concepts from Chinese mythology that are not talked about in the show. Honestly, if you went 100% on the show and not on Chinese mythology at all, there wouldn't be a magic system in the first place.
Now, let's begin!
First, vocabulary.
Magic Class: The root of a user's magic. Classes are not exclusive, but actually compounding. For example, Wukong has Intrinsic-based Actively Cultivated Magic. Magic Subtype: A modifier to a class; additional information to explain how a user's magic came to be or how it works. For example, Tang has Revitalized Bestow-Inherited Actively Cultivated³ Magic — the subtype goes before the class because it's a modifier. (Yes, I will explain why his Actively Cultivated Magic is cubed.)
(In the naming scheme of magic, everyone has a full classification and then a shorthand classification. The classifications above were all shorthand.)
Magical Energy: The basic form of magic; unfiltered energy that can be channeled, manipulated, and cultivated. This energy can be used to attack directly or utilized in a spell. MAGICAL ENERGY IS QI, "MAGIC" IS JUST BEING USED BECAUSE THIS IS WRITTEN FOR A WESTERN AUDIENCE. Power: A defined ability, such as a spell or a technique. Not all Powers are explicitly named, but powers have defined forms and details whereas Magical Energy is usually a geometric shape. Examples of Powers: 72 Transformations, Golden Sight, teleportation. Magical Expression: How Magical Energy and Powers form upon release. Examples of Magical Expression are glowing eyes, full body glowing, magical seals, anime-esque energy blasts, Red Son's* fire, Ne Zha's fire (two VERY different forms of Magical Expression), and Macaque's purple shadow outline. Ne Zha's Wind Fire Wheels are examples of Magical Expression with a conduit. Zero Magical Expression ≠ zero release, but can. Conduits: Anything that can hold, channel, or manipulate Magical Energy. All living beings and magical artifacts are examples of conduits.
Channeling: Collecting magical energy internally Releasing: The basis of Magical Expression; using collected magical energy for an attack
(Mei showcasing channeling and releasing in Rip and Tear) You can always tell when a character is channeling and releasing.
Knowing which class of magic a character is using can be hard — they all tend to utilize anime-esque energy blast graphics and glowing bodies for Magical Expression — so you have to pay close attention. I'll be going over how to identify the specific magic types as we go through them.
Each type of magic has a "poster child" — a character that fully embodies that type — and I'll be using them to explain how the magic works. Once we finish the easily categorized magics, we'll get into the Special Cases.
(MK showcasing Intrinsic Magic in Rip and Tear)
(Wukong showcasing Cultivated Magic in A Lifetime of Mistakes)
Now, onto the classes of magic!
Intrinsic Magic is a class of magic...
That's not inherently pedigree-related. Ne Zha's father Li Jing was a mortal man.
Most gods and local deities have, and some yaoguai have. (Older demons like DBK and Wukong have Intrinsic Magic, while younger demons like Pigsy and Sandy might technically have Inherited Magic. It all depends on how you want to look at it.)
That usually comes with unique powers, commonly the ability to walk and talk upon birth. (Wukong got laser eyes, and Red Son* got the Samadhi Fire).
And holders have unnatural births? Pangu's cosmic egg, Ne Zha being born a ball of flesh after being gestated for three years, Wukong's rock that's existed since the dawn of time, etc.
Ne Zha is the epitome of Intrinsic Magic! If you think Intrinsic Magic, you think Ne Zha. The unmistakable way to identify Intrinsic Magic is to look for themes. If a character has a theme to their magic, again and again, they likely have Intrinsic Magic! For example:
Ne Zha's Intrinsic Theme is (obviously) lotus flowers/petals.
Red Son's* Intrinsic Theme is flames.
Macaque would be a contender for intrinsic magic (we will be getting back to him, though).
Cultivated Magic is a class of magic that has two subclasses: ACTIVE and PASSIVE, and...
That's ENTIRELY self-created. A magical pedigree can help, but no pedigree is required in Cultivated Magic — Li Jing cultivated magic as a completely human man, for example.
That NEEDS a Conduit. The conduit for Cultivated Magic can be the magic user themselves, but often it's a magical artifact or a technique. Note: a conduit doesn't require Cultivated Magic to be used, but Cultivated Magic requires a conduit. (Known Conduits include: Wukong's Cloud Somersault, Nezha's Wind Fire Wheels, and Princess Iron Fan's Banana Leaf Fan.)
That's very backstory-heavy. There's always a way that a character learned or got their power, or a description of how old they are.
A magic that you see most with yaoguai and immortals. The older the yaoguai, the more cultivated they are.
Passive Cultivation: Every living being is a conduit for passive cultivation — by existing, you are passively cultivating. The best method of passive cultivation is age; the older something is, the more passively cultivated. A Huli jing is the best example of passively cultivated magic. According to literature, the older a fox is, the more power it accrues.
Active Cultivation: Active Cultivation is when a being seeks out magical power. The most common form of active cultivation is being taught Tao techniques (Wukong's Cloud Somersault, Li Jing's Burning Pagoda Art). In this situation, the technique is the conduit. Other forms of actively cultivating magic are yaoguai eating humans and magic-accruing technology (specifically DBK's Furnace armor, which converts rarity into magical energy.)
Cultivated Magic comes with the implication of being wise, at least in some form, and those with cultivated magic are able to teach others. Being a disciple immediately means you have Actively Cultivated Magic.
Cultivated Magic often doesn't have Magical Expression, because it's all about existing and learning. When it does have Magical Expression, it's usually depictions of strength and power or the conduit itself glowing.
(Wukong's hairs glow as they are used as conduits for his cloning technique in Macaque)
(Wukong and Macaque's strength is showcased through Magical Expression during a fight in Macaque)
Cultivated Magic can be seen through any technique that was stated to have learned, such as Wukong's astral projection and his speed/quick reflexes.
(Wukong focusing in order to astral project to MK in Dumpling Destruction)
(MK having to actively learn and practice astral projecting in Minor Scale)
MK: Monkey King! It worked! Monkey King: Hey, bud. So, you figured out astral projection, huh? MK: Yeah, and I only had five nose bleeds.
Cultivated Magic is best showcased in action, and characters cultivate over the course of the show.

(Wukong showcasing his Cultivated Magic by pulling some fast ones on MK in Impossible Delivery)
(4 seasons later in Strings That Bind, Wukong and MK spar, showcasing MK's Cultivated Magic. Tumblr will NOT let me embed both videos, and the first one is more important, so this will just be a link.)
Inherited Magic is a class of magic that has two subclasses: ANCESTERAL and BESTOWED, and...
Comes from someone else and was given to or passed down to the magic user.
Is sourced from Intrinsic or Cultivated Magic, but the magic user is not intrinsically magical/did not cultivate that magic themselves. The Intrinsic/Cultivated Magic is specific to another (perhaps deceased) being.
Can have ZERO Magical Expression or release.
If a character has Ancestor-Inherited Magic, they'll have a family animal, a family artifact, and/or a known ancestor.
If a character has Bestow-Inherited Magic, they were given their power by another magic user (known as the Bestower) so that they would serve that magic user, defeat a foe, or as a reward. Bestow-Inherit Magic users are often previously mortal.
Bestow-Inherited Magic is most blatantly a character giving another character magical powers, but being granted godhood, being brought back to life under a deal, and everyone receiving heavenly ranks/Wukong and Tripitaka receiving Buddhahood and Buddha titles at the end of Journey To The West is also Bestow-Inherited Magic.
A quick note: Older yaoguai (DBK, Azure Lion, Wukong) are considered to have Intrinsic Magic, but Modern yaoguai (Pigsy, Sandy) are deemed to have Inherited Magic. This is because these younger demons are not yaoguai specifically unto themselves — their status as a yaoguai comes from their ancestors. They have no unique, intrinsic powers, nor were they specifically predestined to be yaoguai despite their heritage (such as in the case of Nezha, who was predestined to be a celestial being).
For example, Pigsy. His status as a Magic User exists because of his family history. While, yes, his family is important to his character and story, it's not something he did himself — he did not cultivate his grandma — and there is nothing unique about him biology-wise besides just being a pig demon. He is a reincarnation, but being a reincarnation didn't make him a yaoguai. (That was a whole fate, symbolism deal, though.) If Pigsy hadn't been born, his family would still have a pig demon kid.
Now, onto the subtypes. (As a reminder, a subtype modifies a class!)
Revitalized Magic is a subtype of magic. It means that the magic is from a pre-incarnation that a character unlocks and requires reincarnation.
Uuuuunless it doesn't, and it required Un-Death. Auto-Revitalization of Magic is definitely a thing, but it's not a real category. It's just a specification to explain things that have happened to a character.
For example: The reason Macaque's shadows turned into chaos magic at the end of season 5 is because he's dead. He's outside of the reincarnation cycle, he's Undead, his magic is Auto-Revitalized —so when the reincarnation cycle is broken, his magic is also changed. At least, that's my personal theory. I might be DEAD WRONG.
Okay, back to Revitalized Magic proper: Remember back when I said Tang's magic was cubed? Yeah, this is why. (Before we start, Táng Sānzàng will be referred to as Tripitaka from here on out.)
The full classification of Tang's magic is: Potential Revitalized Bestow-Inherited (Tripitaka), Revitalized Actively Cultivated (Golden Cicada), Revitalized Actively Cultivated (Tripitaka), Actively Cultivated Magic. (Maybe, we'll get into this.)
The entire reason demons tried to eat Tripitaka was because he was the reincarnation of the Golden Cicada, who was a disciple of Buddha, which made Tripitaka's flesh holy. Being a disciple immediately means Actively Cultivated Magic; Tripitaka had Revitalized Actively Cultivated Magic. Tripitaka was a Buddhist disciple as well, which means he also Actively Cultivated. If Tang is a reincarnation of Tripitaka, who is a reincarnation of the Golden Cicada, then Tang has Revitalized Actively Cultivated Magic twice (or, even, 10 times, if you look at the Sandalwood Buddha thing, but Tripitaka and Golden Cicada are the important disciples so we're only counting them).
If Tang has Revitalized Actively Cultivated Magic and Revitalized Actively Cultivated Magic, that means he has Revitalized Actively Cultivated Magic². However,
Tang is a SCHOLAR. BEING A SCHOLAR MEANS THAT TANG IS ALSO AN ACTIVE CULTIVATOR.
HENCE, TANG HAS ACTIVELY CULTIVATED MAGIC³.
Celestial Magic is a subclass of magic that includes any magic with a seal. It's not exclusive to Celestial beings, but it's most often used by beings with Heavenly connections.
Celestial Magic is also known as "Spells", I'm pretty sure. Wukong just dropped this terminology on us in Season 5, and spells usually require words, but like. Okay, buddy. Whatever. You're the magic guy.
Celestial Seals have a unique symbol for every "Artist", or a Hànzì that explains the spell's purpose. For example, Li Jing's seals have a little pagoda on them, and the containment spell's seal (the only thing that can truly be called a spell here) has the character "牢", which means "prison" (or "enclosure", which is hilarious because it's containing 3 monkeys).
Consequential Magic is any magical energy or power gained as a result of an action taken by someone who is NOT the magic user.
Consequential is not a subclass of Cultivated because the magic user had no say in acquiring/did not know they were acquiring Consequential Magic; Consequential is not a subclass of Inherited because the magic user was not intentionally given these powers and they did not come from ancestry.
(Red Son* is literally the reason this subtype exists.) Every example of Consequential Magic is different, so I'm just going to some of the ones I know of in canon:
Wukong's Golden Sight (Consequence of the Eight Trigrams Furnace; Torture-consequence)
Ao Lie having the Samadhi Fire inside him after they fucked up the seal (Samadhi Fire/Red Son*; Samadhi-consequence)
Mei Dragon's ability to harness the Samadhi Fire/the remnants left over inside her after (Samadhi Fire/Red Son*; Samadhi-consequence)
MK's human form (form as in the shape of something btw) (Xiangliu fucked his shit up; Birth Interference-Consequence)
Macaque's new Chaos Magic (Xiangliu fucked his shit up; Chaos-Consequence)
I have spent this entire post explaining the way magic seems to work in LEGO Monkie Kid, getting slightly more and more unhinged as we go on. But there might be two things on your mind: Why? and Why does Red Son's* name have an asterisk on it every time I've mentioned him in this post?
I can answer both of those questions with one statement: Red Son does not adhere to the magic rules other characters follow. I've tried to find examples to see if I was thinking of the magic wrong — and that's fully possible — but I didn't find anything. In fact, the more I look, the more sure of this I become. It's like he actively decides against following the rules of the magic system.
He can be used as EXAMPLES of the magic system, but when you dig into his magic specifically, it's completely wack-a-doo.
First and foremost:
Red Son has a completely unique form of Magic Expression. His emotions are directly linked to his Magical Expression and release.
Emotionally linked magic release is something no other character does, but here he is doing it over and over and over again. The only example close to it is MK's Mystic Monkey form flickering in and out when he's distraught, and that's LITERALLY CREATION-GIVEN NÜWA MAGIC, THAT'S FROM A CREATURE WHOSE CANONICALLY "OUTSIDE OF THE 10 SPECIES" AND CANNOT BE CATEGORIZED?? AND ALSO NOT QUITE THE SAME EITHER.
(This could also be attributed to the concentration part of the Samadhi Fire, but he doesn't... seem to have access to that anymore? At least, not like Mei does. We'll consider it a factor in his magic expression, though.)
About his fire,
Red Son and his mom are the only two characters with Wuxing/Elemental Magic — every other example comes from a magical artifact. It's actually a 50/50 chance on whether or not PIF has wind powers or if the Banana Leaf Fan gives her wind powers (I'm pretty sure it gives her wind powers, but just to be safe we'll count her as having wind powers.) Wuxing Magic is not uncommon in actual Chinese mythology, but it is in the show for some reason. And it ALWAYS has an artifact as a conduit. Wuxing Magic always seems to be just a visual effect or an added addition to attacks in the show.
Another weird ass thing about Red Son's magic is its contrast with Nezha's. I'm pretty sure Red Son's fire is actual fire that he conjures magically, in contrast to Nezha's Wind Fire Wheels (conduits that Nezha fuels, and release Wuxing Magic as a visual effect) which make specifically magical fire.
Okay, so, I've been going through this assuming you're aware of the show's visuals concerning magic, but this is important for me to cover in detail. Everyone has two magic colors (white doesn't count for this). They can change in lighting, but you'll always recognize them as being the same general colors. Other colors may be used for emphasis, but they'll only be darker versions of the colors and they'll be used as a background for the main colors. (Quick note, MK and Wukong might have only one magic color? Fun stuff.)
The reason I think Red Son's magic is not... magic persay, is because it doesn't follow the color rule. Like, it's not actually the color of Red Son's magical energy half the time, it doesn't follow the magic color rule. Red Son's fire shifts like an actual fire, which is very cool visually, but is not how magic works.
(Quick note, magic seems to be lighter in the celestial realm. This is because the Celestial Realm is really well-lit. The environment is literally pure sunlight or some shit, so all the characters and their magic are in perfect lighting. So Red Son's magic getting inexplicably darker would make no sense unless Red Son's magic is doing that on its own and the lighting has nothing to do with it.)
His magic also isn't the color of the Samadhi Fire, nor is his fire. That time in season 5 when Mei helped him with the seal, the two of them together made a Samadhi Fire-colored seal. He didn't seem capable of doing that by himself, which leads me to my conclusion:
I think the suppression of the Samadhi Fire suppressed Red Son's Intrinsic Magic as a whole, and his magical core (as one user put it) is compensating by drawing directly from his element.
Characters having an element isn't a new thing. Wukong's element is metal, he's a metal guy, it's why he can't swim, and it's why MK can't swim. MK needs floaties because he'll sink like a rock because he shares the metal element with Wukong.
But this is a possible explanation for why Red Son's magic is so weird.
On the note of Mei having more access to the Samadhi Fire than him, Skellebonez (my rock through this journey of a post) brought up a good point: "[I] think it makes sense because whatever they did to remove it from him could have also added a barrier preventing its return to an extent[.] Like a filter[.]"
This Intrinsic Magic cap/Samadhi Filter might also explain why he keeps getting his shit rocked despite having such potential to be powerful (that's probably just because it's silly tho) and it could explain why his parents are so damn disappointed in him in season 1. It's because they took his magic from him (however unintentionally) and he's not as magical anymore. The only type of categorizable magic he uses is Celestial magic, which HUMANS can use and can be bestowed on ANYONE. You can just like... LEARN THAT, and I think he just did.
In canon, nobody ever seems to be hurt by Red Son's fire? It seems to just be... a thing that he does. Everyone is less and less scared of it as the show goes on, and the only thing it does major damage to is MK's apartment. He uses his fists to attack more than he uses his fire, it's generally left as a visual effect. Red Son uses his fire as an intimidation tactic, not as an actual weapon, and I think this could also be explained by an Intrinsic Magic cap. His intrinsic magic is suppressed, so he has to rely on things like physical strength/cultivation.
I also think nobody knows this in canon, they didn't know about it, or they don't understand it. I think Red Son has a magic limiter on him, which is why his parents were such raging fuckasses in season one. They thought their son was "useless", or in Wukong's words, "half-baked", after showing such promise in his childhood before an incident. They only got a healthier relationship after they stopped obsessing over power and spent some family time together, when they realized that their son being a powerful magical demon isn't the most important thing in the world. (AND WE WEREN'T SHOWN IT.)
Red Son is magic-disabled, in this essay I did.
ALL MAGIC COMES FROM THE PRIMORDIAL CHAOS, SO, IN ACTUALITY, ALL OF IT IS THE SAME! FUCK YOU!

Hi, I was wondering if I could request some headcannons for being best friends with Macaque while also being Wukong's S/O? Like the reader is part of Monkie Kid Gang and they somehow formed a friendship with Macaque during adventures or something.
oooo what a good prompt, absolutely !!! ^w^
Wukong with an S/O who’s best friends with Macaque
You and Macque developed a friendship while saving Wukong and the rest of the world from the Lady Bone Demon.
Wukong became aware of your friendship as you two talked to each other after everyone was safe and you all had noodles to celebrate.
Oh, you better believe Wukong is jealous with every fiber in his immortal being, seeing Macaque getting all buddy-buddy with you knowing he’s probably just doing it to make him mad makes him bare his fangs while crossing his arms.
Of course, Macaque was genuinely your friend but he couldn’t help but relish in the fact it made Wukong mad. Doing subtle things like placing his hand on your shoulder and brushing his tail against you while Wukong crushed whatever was in his hands which in turn made Macaque cackle.
You were very much aware of Wukong’s jealousy as you consoled him over and over he was YOUR boyfriend and you were HIS s/o.
You would cup his face in your hands as you kissed it over and over, taking his attention off of the darker monkey back onto you, replacing his scowl with a love-sick expression as his tail turned into a heart shape.
Macaque soon stopped doing things to purposely piss Wukong off as he had genuine respect for you and your friendship, but he just couldn’t help it at first it was just too funny!
Wukong learns to accept it later on, knowing of course you can be friends with whoever you want and he respects your friendships and boundaries.
This doesn’t stop them from butting heads, that’s never gonna change.
Sometimes you intervened if it looked like they were going to physically fight, leaving them hanging their heads low in shame that they fought in front of you.
“Sorry peaches…”
“Sorry (Name)...”

Cursed Warlords Lmk Au - Chapter 1 - Meeting The Mortal
Sun Wukong and The Six Eared Macaque have been cursed. Luckily for them, a young mortal (You) has chosen to take care of them.
*Chirp* *Chirp*
Sun Wukong couldn’t believe this, he was a feared warlord! He was a dangerous being who struck fear into the hearts of humans. He ruled an entire island and had a whole island. Now he was but the size of a small cub, and he couldn’t figure out how to get back to normal. Growling he threw his arms around trying to shape-shift, which he was unable to do at all right now.`
*Chirp* *Chirp*
The sound of his mate caught his attention. He huffed as he turned to Macaque who was also stuck in the form of a cub. The two weren’t even demon cubs, no they were stuck looking like normal monkey cubs! He loved cubs, but he hated the idea of being stuck as one!
‘Calm down, being loud won’t do us any good,’ Macaque chirped jumping to sit beside him under a large tree.
Wukong huffed as he looked around, they were sitting in a large forest. It was dense and filled with highly dangerous creatures. None of which could best himself and his mate of course so there was no need for them to worry. Seemingly sensing what his mate was thinking Macaque chirped. ‘We can’t beat anyone stuck like this.’
Macaque wasn’t stupid, far from it he was a dangerous warlord who ruled right next to his husband. Now the both of them were stuck as defenseless cubs with no way to return to their own bodies. He held back his own growl at the thought, they would get back to normal, there was no way he would just sit back as he was stuck in a form like this!
They needed to think of a plan, hell they needed to find out how this happened in order to find a way to fix it! Macaque looked at his mate, he wasn’t taller than a foot now with the same bright golden fur and golden eyes. The marking under his mouth vanished but he still had his red, heart shaped mask surrounding his eyes. Though now it was closer to a peachy orange color.
‘You got any ideas on what to do than?’ Wukong growled back, they had been stuck in this form for almost two days now with no clue of how it happened or who was responsible. In that time this was the first time that Sun Wukong had calmed down enough to talk.
Macaque thought about it, they needed to get back to Flower Fruit Mountain and get seek help. Knowing his mate though there was very little chance that he would want to do that because it would show his weakness. That weakness having only just appeared once whatever curse was set on them settled. They had no way to get to The Mountain, they were terribly far from Camal Ridge as well as The Demon Bull King’s territory in the desert.
Wukong frowned when he didn’t get a response from his mate. His still taller than him mate, he was like an inch taller still even with both of them shrinking down to this height. It kind of pissed him off if he was to be honest. His mate who still had his six eared, feather like purple mask, as well as his dark purple eyes. The single marking below his lip had vanished and he was stuck with his bright white fur, which caused him to stand out rather well in this place.
‘We need to get to Flower Fruit Mountain,’ Macaque chirped, looking around for the best way to get back without drawing too much attention.
‘Okay? How do we do that, it’s going to take ages,’ Wukong whined in response, his tail whipping back and forth as he sat next to his mate.
Before Macaque could answer the two heard a snap from behind them. Immediately the two turned around, hackles raised and ready to run. However that didn’t happen when they noticed a lone human woman walking through the forest. The two glanced at each other confused as to why there was a woman all alone in the forest, especially a forest such as this one.
“Hey come on, wait up!” A young demoness called out behind her.
Okay so she wasn’t alone. The demoness was small, standing at three foot tall with ankle long black hair that gently floated around her. She was monkey demoness, with light grey almost white eyes and black fur covering the majority of her figure.
“You’re faster than me, you can keep up,” The human responded, pushing some branches out of her way.
“Come on. You don’t have to be mean, Reader,” The demoness whined jumping in front of you with a grin.
“I’m not being mean. And you still haven’t told me why you’re even following me,” you said with a deadpanned look as she walked forwards.
You didn’t hold any fear for the demoness that was clearly superior to you. Both Wukong and Macaque glanced at each other before climbing up a few branches to watch you for a moment. You were heading in their direction, they could get the demoness’s help back to the Mountain.
As you were getting closer however suddenly your foot snagged on a root and you went toppling forwards with a yelp. The monkeys couldn’t help but laugh at your expense as dirt and mud covered your face.
The demoness chuckled her tail swaying back and forth as she jumped to walk next to you. Getting closer the two noticed that you were wearing, very strange clothing. Dark blue pants that hugged her legs, a black top that barely covered her shoulders and strange boots.
“If I had known you would follow me than… Nah I still would have helped you. Anyways Spirit- if that is your name, can you point the way to the closest village?” You asked as you stopped below the very tree that the two monkeys were sitting in.
“Just keep traveling this way. At your rate, we might be able to reach it in the next three days,” The demoness shrugged with a laugh when you whipped your head around with a yell.
“THREE DAYS!? FUCK!” You groaned slapping your forehead.
Wukong and Macaque looked at each other again confused. Why were you so surprised, it’s not like that was a very long trip. Mortals were so impatient, they thought before glancing at the demoness. Just as they were about to try and get her attention, there was a loud screech behind them. Turning they saw a large demon bird. Immediately they stumbled just enough to fall off of the branch.
‘SHIT!’ Macaque chirped but before either of the two hit the ground they were caught in a pair of welcoming arms.
The demon bird went to attack only to flee when it saw Spirit who jumped in front of you with claws and teeth bared harshly. Almost immediately the bird was gone and you were now holding two small monkey cubs who were quickly trying to get out of your hold.
“… What just happened?” You asked looking at the two monkeys.
“Demon birds, gosh I hate those guys. They must have attacked these two, where are your parents little ones-,” Spirit kind of stopped talking as she looked at the two in your arms.
“Poor dears, you’re safe now,” You couldn’t help but mutter as you held them to your chest getting little chirps in return, mostly from confusion.
Humans weren’t nice, especially not to their kind. No humans were either hateful creatures or scared out of their minds. They would attack their kind or run away from them. They never cuddled with the enemy, so what was up with this one? Did she hit her head somewhere?
*Chirp* *Chirp* Wukong calls out, demanding that the demoness get the human to release them. The demoness stared at the two for a moment, nodding her head in what appeared to be understanding. However, she didn’t tell the woman to release them no instead she looked up at her and with a loud voice declared.
“Yeah, I have no idea how to speak monkey. Do you know what they said?” She asked, sweat dropping from her brow.
Both Wukong and Macaque stared at her in shock, she couldn’t understand them!? No! NO! NO! This was bad, they were stuck in this form and not even this monkey demoness could help them! Wukong couldn’t help the low growl that soon made its way from his throat. He tried to sound dangerous and threatening, unfortunately for him… But he only sounded adorable.
“SO CUTE!” You cheered pulling the two into a hug, Macaque quickly tried to push you away with his paw.
“Yeah, sure. What do you want to do with them?” The demoness asked with a frown, her eyes narrowing at the two cubs.
You looked at her with a confused expression before what she was asking hit you. She wanted you to decide where you two were going to drop them off. Looking down at them, you noticed them staring at you too. A warm smile covered your face as you pulled them slightly closer.
“We should find their parents,” you said looking back up at her.
“… I don’t think that’s going to work,” She responded with a frown.
You narrowed your eyes in confusion,“Why not?”
“Because they don’t smell like anyone else. There parents…” Her words were wrong, their parents weren’t dead. They never had parents, they were born from a storm and a stone.
“Then we’ll take care of them,” You responded determined.
“Wait… WHAT!?”

After the whole mess with the Brotherhood is handled in Soft Boiked au, Wukong has another situation to handle. MK now knows he's a Stone Monkey, the same species as Wukong himself. He may also suspect Wukong to be his biological parent, although Wukong goes on record to say that no, Yubei was the only kid he actually birthed, MK may be his cub in his heart, but they share no biological connection that Wukong is aware of.
But even if MK isn't biologically Wukongs, they have the situation of his true form. Specifically, teaching MK how to Monkey. Wukong thinks it'd be easy, MK already acts so much like a monkey it's hard to imagine him struggling, but the problem isn't that he can't act like a monkey. It's that he doesn't have the confidence to do so knowingly. He can climb and groom just fine, but when it comes to things like diet and soaring through the trees, the way macaques do, he struggles. He gets grossed out at the thought of picking through someone's hair and eating bugs, he hesitates when he should use the branch he just climbed as a springboard to reach the next tree, he feels uncomfortable doing thinks like chirping and hooting. His upbringing makes him hesitate to listen to his natural instincts, and while it's nothing against Pigsy or Tang, it's just that societal expectations of modern China are causing MK to hold back.
Wukong had faced a similar problem when he'd gotten back from the Journey, after spending so many years being punished for 'hyperactive and unsocietal behavior' up until Tripitaka had it beaten over his head that Wukong was not only pregnant but that these were normal monkey things and not disrespectful in nature at all, he struggled to adapt to being a monkey again.
The fact that MK was already dealing with self esteem issues and then got stuck in a scroll with a ink demon in the shape of his monkey form that would only dig at those insecurities only made it worse.
Prev.
MK is in for a loooong learning montage after learning he's a Stone Monkey, thats for sure!
It's not an easy road.
Lots of "George of the Jungle"-esque mishaps involving tree climbing occur.
Could have it been a little easier if MK had been raised as a monkey demon? Yes. But he also would have faced greater social challenges, not to mention if any of Wukong's enemies "sensed" what he actually was.
And don't even get MK started on the "picking bugs out of each other's fur and eating"-part. He found a tiny garden spider crawling in Macaque's fur during a troop grooming session and nearly passed out.
MK, trying to psyche himself up to eat the bug: (*gags*) Macaque, sniffs himself thinking that's the problem: "What? I showered recently." Yuebei: (*reaches up and steals the bug from MK, eating it instead*) MK: (*very grossed-out sigh of relief*) "I love you, mooncake."
He feels like he's behind even little Yuebei of all people when it comes to learning to Monkey! At least she can chirp and hoot without anyone looking at her weirdly...
Wukong sighs and jokes it's like teaching two cubs at once.
Luckily, MK isn't alone. Turns out, Wukong has gone through the very same thing he has nearly twice over! Subodhi canonically strikes and punishes Wukong for happily jumping and hooting when he's excited for class, so Wukong literally had his instincts beaten out of him. And later still when he became Bimawen and a Peach Attendant, he found himself subconsciously suppressing his "monkey" habits in order to avoid criticism from surrounding celestials.
While the Tang Monk had been confused by Wukong's monkey habits, he adapted to them - with a lot of "gentle" persuasion from Guanyin, Ao Lie, Sha Wujing, and many of the allies they made along the way of course. Afterall, part of Tripitaka's character development is him starting out close-minded and opening himself to the fact that people just gonna act and be different. After Tripitaka learned that Heaven and even Wukong's first master had punished and resented his nature, he especially made sure Wukong understood that he didn't want him to see his behaviours as "unnatural". Just him.
MK also gets a lot of encouragement from the rest of his "troop".
Pigsy and Tang feel really bad not being able to indulge MK's natural behaviours as a cub, but they were always understanding that he was just their special little guy. If he was hyperactive or overstimulated, they had ways to address it. I love hcs of Tang being neurodivergent, so he when sees Baby MK throwing tantrums and just be like "Mood."
Red Son and Mei secretly begin flexing their own natural behaviours so MK doesn't feel as left out. Though MK was def confused the first time he got friendly-headbutts and nips.

This includes s5 spoilers!!
I think we as a fandom should talk more about how sun wukong has absolutely no self preservation, and how he has been self-sacrificial since season 1. Hi, my name is iridescent, and in this essay-
ok but in all seriousness, I have evidence from every season of him doing this, and I will be analyzing it and informing about it Meticulously.
I also have a couple of tangents about him protecting MK in here. I just like the detail of him always doing that, especially considering how he does it.
it wasn’t just season 5 where he was willing to sacrifice himself, season 5 was just the only season where it was outright blatantly stated that he was going to sacrifice himself.
(^Image taken from S1 EP9, Macaque)
this image in and of itself is fairly minor. Because we know he’s going to be okay. he is immortal, and compared to MK, an explosion most definitely will not do much, if anything, to him. and I’m sure he’s fully aware of this (which is probably part of the reason he shields MK with his body so much, there are SO many example of him doing this)
Still, even the fact his immediate instinct was to throw himself in harms way to protect MK is pretty sacrificial in and of itself. I’m 100% certain that even if it could hurt him, he would still protect MK like this.
(^ image taken from S2 EP10, this is the end)
Wukong here is visibly weakened and injured. It was stated early in season 3 that he was weak, and even at the end of season 2, we could tell. ESPECIALLY when he grabbed MK and escaped from LBD on his nimbus cloud. By the time they found their friends, it was deteriorating, and they quiet literally crash landed onto the ship.
But despite his obviously weakened state, he was still throwing himself in front of MK, protecting him from harm, and shielding him with his body. His first thought was to throw himself in harms way, and this time, there is a very real possibility that he probably can get injured! He’s weak, his powers are failing, there is no way he would have the energy to fight LBD. Not in the state he is in at this very moment, and MK isn’t, either. He knows this- I know he does, because instead of picking a fight, he grabs MK and runs. He even admits that he isn’t in any shape to face her. However, even though he knows he would hardly be able to put up a fight as it stands right now, he is still willing to throw himself in front of MK. (Which also directly supports what I said above! It does not matter if he can get hurt if not, he will still put himself in harms way to keep MK safe)
Similarly to above, he was fully willing to find and reforge the samadhi fire on his own, despite his weakened state- to keep the others out of harms way, because they are mortal and he is not. Still, even despite him being immortal, he’s trying to reforge the samadhi fire- one of the rare things that has the ability to actually hurt him. Wukong knows this, and he is still willing to do this alone. Even though he is obviously injured, and weakened, and there is a very real possibility the samadhi fire could kill him, he is willing to do this on his own. Because they are mortals- if the fire can kill him, then it can definitely kill them, too.
(^ Image taken from S3, EP1, on the run)
season 3 is, in my opinion, where his self-sacrificial tendencies and complete lack of self preservation becomes a lot more obvious. So, fair warning, season 3 is probably going to be a long one.
Wukong is fully willing to risk himself to get the map. And it isn’t like he doesn’t know the risks of forcing his way through the Barrie. Ne Zha even warns him, and says that if he forces his way through the barrier, they could both be destroyed. And honestly? If Wukong wasn’t, like, 7x immortal, there is a very real possibility that he would’ve been destroyed, then and there. And while, yeah, Ne Zha didn’t die, either, he also wasnt the one actively breaking through the barrier. I’m sure if Ne Zha was the one breaking through, he probably would’ve died. Even then, Wukong was severely weakened after this (as seen and talked about above!), he knew the risks and he still took them. He knew he could die, but if it meant saving the world and keeping MK and his friends safe? He would do it. And, again, even after being fully aware of his weakened state, he immediately ran to the protection of MK as soon as he realized he was in danger.
(^images taken from S3 EP10, The Samadhi Fire)
I’ve already talked about how often he is shown to use his body to protect MK from danger, but here, specifically, I want to mention be we are specifically shown a scene of him moving his arm to protect MK from danger. Especially considering the danger is the samadhi fire- something that can actually harm him. This is different from most other times he’s doing this, because this time, he can actually get hurt.
This is one of, in my opinion, one the most obvious examples of him being a self sacrificing idiot with very little self preservation (/aff)
his entire plan, from the very beginning, was to try and take the samadhi fire out of Mei (because he never wanted her to be harmed- he’s spent the entirety of season 2 and 3 trying to protect MK and his friends, he never one intentionally hurt them) and put it in himself. Think about that. The samadhi fire is something that can harm him- kill him, and he knows that. He knows that extremely well. His entire plan could lead to his death, and he’s aware of that. And the same thing goes for when he was getting the map in the first place- both times, he was fully aware that there is a possibility he could die from this. He doesn’t care, though. If it protects the people he cares about, he’s going to do it- even if he dies in the process.
once again, we are specifically shown a scene of him trying to protect MK. His immediate thought has always been to take the brunt of the fire, and keep MK from danger- I fully think, had there not been a shock factor to MK literally running straight in, he would have ran in after.
Again, in this scene he has no self preservation, and he is very self sacrificial. His entire plan from the very beginning hitched on having a weapon, something powerful enough to stop the lady bone demon, except that plan has failed, and now, there is no weapon. So his new solution? Stop LBD himself.
If he was truly confident he could beat her again, then why did he go looking for the samadhi fire, instead of going to immediately fight her and stop her? He’s desperate, he knows how bad the situation is, and he still isn’t sure if he can even beat her. He’s still willing to try, if it means protecting MK and his friends, and saving the world. He’s going into the fight. Alone. No backup, no plan, no samadhi fire. (And we know this goes wrong, too) He is fully aware of this! He knows he’s going into a fight he’s might not come out of. Everyone else knows this, too- Ne Zha even points out the chances of him surviving are slim.
(^ image taken from S4, EP1, familiar tales)
once again, his immediate reaction (even when being faced with his trauma) is to protect and save MK. He knows what the scroll is, and he knows what’s going to happen if he gets stuck inside of it- despite that, he still sacrifices himself to ensure MK doesn’t get stuck inside of the scroll. He lets himself get sucked into it. He is willing to face all of the mistakes he’s made and the trauma he’s endured to protect MK from having to go through the same.
WARNING YOU ALL AGAIN!!! S5 SPOILERS BEGIN NOW!!
Let’s all be honest here, they’re both lacking in the self preservation department. They are not lacking in the self sacrifice department, though, I’ll tell you that much! This entire fight, they are very blatant about how they are, quite literally, fighting over who gets to sacrifice themself. There isn’t much to say here that wouldn’t be stating the obvious- neither of them want eachother to sacrifice themselves, they both want to be the sacrifice.
TLDR: Sun Wukong has been self sacrificial and has had a disregard for his own preservation since we were introduced to him. This has only become more apparent as he grew closer to MK, and as his character has developed.
is all of this already very obvious? Mmmaybe???? I’m not too sure. Did I make a couple of reaches a couple of times? Mmmmmmmaaaaaybe. Is this an excuse to infodump and talk about sun wukong? Yeah. Am I sorry? No.

Abilities:
illusion- Jie can create an illusion of objects, sometimes places, she uses it mainly in fights but it’s no use against enemies with strong senses (Macaque) or the users of gold vision (MK and Wukong)
shape shifting- Jie can transform into a fox, human or into a male version of herself. She can also change into one of her acquaintances (for example MK) but can also change parts of her body (like hair colour). While doing so she needs to stay focus or she will come back to her true form, that’s why she doesn’t use this ability while fighting
energy manipulation- Jie can use her energy to attack an enemy. It’s something that helps her while fighting with opponents stronger than her but because of how much energy it costs Jie uses it mainly as an emergency. (This ability allowed her to break the contract with her previous masters)
ability to see and gather souls- Jie can see souls of living and distinguish between them. This way she can recognise the power and personality of their owners. She can also steal the souls and then transform them into energy to give herself strength (though she is forbidden from doing that right now)
teleportation- Jie can teleport to many places as long as she knows the location and has enough energy for that, the distance depends on how much energy she has.
six sense- Jie has the ability to feel danger before it harms her in any way, it works only when the one threatened is her.
strong sense of smell- Jie has a strong sense of smell. It can be helpful but it’s becoming a problem once she’s close to something with an unpleasant smell
possession- Jie can posses the abilities and body of creatures she choose to possess. But it works only when the body’s souls is weak or gone
half immortality- Jie doesn’t age nor caught diseases but she can still be killed
astral projection- Jie is able to separate part of her soul from her body and wander like a ghost. It's different from Wukong's ability because Jie can't control her body while being a projection, once her soul comes back to its place she can keep her memories.
Personality:
Jie seems to be someone quiet, calm and cold hearted because that’s how she wants others to see her. In fact she can be very nervous or care deeply about someone but she won’t show it. She doesn’t show her true feelings if she doesn’t need to. She also likes to spend time alone, after spending hundreds years on her own she feels uncomfortable with other people. Without the ability to start a conservation she feels just anxious. She barely talks about the things she likes.
Jie has problem with trusting others and she doesn’t see herself as a trustworthy person either because she always puts herself and things of a high value to her first when she’s in danger. Sometimes she catches herself being carefree near MK’s group or Wukong but will immediately scold herself for that, she knows her place or at least she thinks she does. Jie isn’t sure whether she’s good or bad person and doesn’t accept others opinions about it. She is someone who doesn’t want to be hurt but she’s much more afraid of hurting others, she’s living with a ghost of her past and a lot of guilt.
Despite her being pretty sceptical and cold Jie can sometimes be a good listener and even better advisor, she actually enjoys being listened. When she starts doing something she makes sure to do it as well as possible
History:
Not much is known about Jie’s history yet, the only part we currently know for sure is that Jie worked in the palace of Demon Fox King, then took over the crown and ruled the kingdom on her own for hundreds while causing many wars. At that time she got married and had three kids. Later Jie was captured by the celestials and judged by the Jade Emperor who took away her title and sealed half of her power. Later for some reason she left the kingdom and traveled while trying to avoid Monkey King and the pilgrims so that she wouldn’t get killed. At the end of her journey she started living near the mountain where Monkey King sealed DBK, later the place became Megapolis where Jie lives till now. When DBK’s family planned to release him Jie decided to join forces with Monkey King to protect her peaceful life, to do that she became his servant.
Besides that it was stated that Jie knows the smell of underworld and probably has some connection to LBD. She also suffers from trauma which we yet don’t know when and where started.
Relationships with canon characters(opinions):
Sun Wukong:
Jie is Wukong’s servant, she spends with him a lot of time but the great Monkey King still keeps surprising her with his immaturity and energy. Despite her efforts to keep the distance between them Jie finds herself more and more relaxed in his presence, yet she keeps her guard up because she knows too well that you shouldn’t allow yourself to depend on someone else than yourself. But even if she doesn’t want to admit it yet, the fact that Wukong starts trusting her more and more makes her happy.
MK
You can easily guess what Jie though about MK when she found out that the stability of her life depends on some delivery boy. It took her some time to accept him as her master’s successor but as someone who can see peoples souls she couldn’t disagree that he was pretty much a honest and good hearted kid. He also showed her that he can work hard and that he truly cares about others safety. What I must add is that MK’s childish behaviour and energy annoys Jie but reminds her of her youngest son at the same time.
Mei
Jie still can’t forget the chills she got when she first met Mei. From the beginning she could say that this girl has a really strong soul which is so wild that it can barely stay in one place and that ominous energy in her body… but anyway- when Jie noticed that Mei is the descendant of the dragon she wasn’t too happy about it, later when she followed the bull clone into Mei’s house to make sure it won’t lay a hand on the Dragon Blade she got to know Mei better and felt bad about her circumstances. Then when Mei wielded her sword Jie was honestly terrified since Mei in her eyes is both powerful and dangerously unstable but when Jie noticed how strong and determinate she is to protect her friends she though of her old good friend and decided to just keep an eye on Mei for now. (Mei also adores Gou so she’s currently Jie’s favourite)
Pigsy
Jie doesn’t know a lot about him yet but she definitely loves his noodles, she’s also relieved that she’s not the only rational one taking care of that reckless Monkey Boy.
Tang
Tang was pretty suspicious of Jie when they first met, which didn’t really matter to her but she was surprised hearing him apologise. The monk’s soul is always thirst for more knowledge which makes him pretty interesting.
Sandy
Jie had her first proper conservation with him when she was going through a hard time and Sandy helper her made up her mind. You probably think that Jie sees nothing wrong with this gentle giant but don’t forget about her ability to see soul and oh man… Sandy’s soul is really weird! In her whole life Jie has never saw someone with their soul parted in half- one is gently and warm like a sunshine while the other is ominous and unpleasant to even look at. Still Jie respects him because she knows that the one to create this balance is no one else but Sandy himself and that can’t be an easy task. The only thing that Jie can’t stand is his love to cats while Jie dislikes them but she can live with that since Sandy likes Gou.
DBK family
Jie doesn’t have any opinion of them, once they try to destroy the city their her enemy and when they live quietly she doesn’t care. She wants to avoid picking a fight with them since she’s not sure whether she could fight any of them. The biggest threat is DBK but Jie believes that Wukong will handle him if needed (or at least she hopes). She had some confrontations with Princess Iron Fan but fortunately it ended well and Red Son… For Jie he’s just a very loud kid with anger issues
Spider Queen
Jie knew Spider Queen for a long time, or rather the two of them just acknowledged each other as rulers of demon kingdoms. Jie felt bad hearing about the fall of Spider demons but doesn’t approve Spider Queen’s actions, for her a Queen without her people is no longer a ruler. It would be better if Spider Queen just gave up and got a new life.
Macaque
From the start Jie isn’t a fan of that Monkey. Literally everything about him disgusts her, especially his smell of the dead and the way he tries to become a villain. Jie had only one look at his soul and noticed that it’s broken which means Macaque has been going through something but it only irritates her more because Macaque is destroying his soul more by acting against his nature which Jie finds stupid.
Yin and Jin
Honestly Jie doesn’t even remember who they are.
Lady Bone Demon
No info yet
Relationships with my ocs (opinions):
Zen
I can ensure you that Jie loves Zen but as for now she doesn’t feel ready to confront him again, she feels like she failed him as a wife and even if she knows deep down that he still loves her she isn’t brave enough to look at him. Remembering him also bring some dark memories who Jie hadn’t fought off yet.
Kids
It’s similar situation to Zen, she loves them but feels like she failed them as a mother. As for now she believes they can do better without her around. She’s really proud of every single one of them and would more than happy if they could live on without thinking about their pathetic mother. (Btw by the time she left the kingdom all her kids were grown up, the youngest- Sān was around 18)
Trivia:
- Jie has a strict week-plan of chores she needs to do for Monkey King, for example: cooking, tidying his cave and also bathing Wukong’s monkey friends. For Jie it’s a pretty fun way to spend her free time but she would be more happy if her pay was bigger
- Jie actually saves money for a coffee machine
- She not only saves letters her husband sends to her but also her own, which she didn’t have a courage to send
- She’s wearing a hairpin with magnolia which she bought with Wukong because it reminds her of a magnolia tree in her old garden in Fox Kingdom
- Jie’s favourite type of coffee is cappuccino without sugar
- Starting from season 1 Jie regularly visits Sandy for a cup of tee, she developed a habit of complaining about Wukong in front of the giant
- Zen and Èr are the only ones who know when Jie lives, Zen can’t leave the kingdom since he is it’s ruler but Èr visits his mother from time to time to check up on her. This way Jie gets to know how her family is doing.
- Jie’s personality changed a lot through many parts of her life
- Before becoming Monkey King’s servant Jie had many different jobs to get money, her last job was a bookstore’s cashier but she had to quit because it was closed due to the owner’s financial issues
// The ‘?’ Are for now hiden
This is an actual Jie’s ref for season 2 of Fox Servant

Mini Mac # 43 : Lil guy woke up
Macaque woke up form his long nap and recieve a lot of cuddles!
Macaque was plunged in a thick darkness. He didn't know how much time he spent there. But sometimes, he would hear distant chirps echoing around him and feel soft fur brush against his body. He felt good. He felt safe. He woke up at the dawn of night. Under the pale light of the full moon. Macaque opened his eye and winced, something was throbbing with pain on his face. He raised a hand and grazed his left eye, it was tightly bandaged. He waited for a few seconds until his sight was clearer. Then he looked around. His babies were cuddled around him. Savage was sprawled on his chest like a starfish. She snored without a care in the world. Rumble was curled around his neck, his lil face pressed under Macaque's chin. He looked quite peaceful.
Macaque felt a huge weight fall out of his shoulders. He reached for his pups and softly brushed them. He cupped Rumble's face, the cuddle bug immediately leaned in his hand. Macaque caressed the edge of his mask with his thumb. He then petted Savage, she babbled in glee and leaned in his touch. This cute lil babble mouth. Macaque felt his emotions bubble inside of him. He wiped away his tears and brought his babies closer. He was glad nothing happened to them.
The black-furred monkey looked up when he heard a snore, he was greeted by Wukong's drooling face. The three of them were laying on the sage's heart-shaped patch of fur. Macaque smiled at the sight. It was almost… endearing in a way. The black-furred monkey sighed with rosy cheeks, gods, he ought to control his feelings better. It was a miracle in itself that Wukong noticed nothing at this point. He really wasn't subtle for this sort of matter.
Macaque nosed his babies, taking in their scent. As much as he wanted to see their eyes blinking open, he didn't want to wake them up. For now, basking in their warmth and presence was enough to fill his heart.
At the first ray of light, Savage wiggled around. She yawned and slowly opened her lil eyes. She stilled once she noticed Macaque.
“Hey there, firecracker.” Chuckled Macaque as he booped her nose. Savage blinked several times in stupor before exploding in joyous chirps. She gripped Macaque's face, her tiny hands clutching his fur with all her might, as if she was afraid he would disappear if she let go. Macaque leaned in her touch and nuzzled her. She pawed at him, trying to fill her lil hands with as much of him as she could. Her chirps woke up her brother.
Rumble groaned, unhappy to be awake this early, but his angry “mrrps” ceased when he noticed Macaque. The pup stilled, very much like his sister, and then reached towards him with his tiny hands. The fingers clenched and unclenched in a desperate attempt to grip any piece of him they could. Macaque took his lil fingers and nosed them. Rumble shook and almost wept in delight.
“Shh, I'm here now.” Cooed Macaque, maybe unconsciously, his pups avoided touching his bandaged aera. He was glad for that. It still throbbed. He nuzzled his babies, muffling their wet chirps in his fur, wiping away the shine veiling their eyes. He was here. He purred, something he didn't do often, to appease them. The vibration shushed them, they nuzzled closer to him, pressing against his neck, their lil hands unyielding in their clutch, and purred too.
Sun Wukong was woken up by the sounds of purring. He blinked open and looked down. Very much like the pups, he stilled for a brief instant, before erupting in unadulterated joy.
“Macaque! You're awake. How are you? Do you need anything? Does it hurt? You-” Macaque cut the sage before he ran out of breath.
“I'm, huh, mostly okay. A lil bit tired.” Nervously chuckled Macaque. Wukong nodded, hanging at every word passing his lips. He brought a shaking finger towards the lil monkey, Macaque patted the fingers, an attempt at comfort. Wukong smiled, his whole face brightened up, as if blessed by the sun. He scooped up the tiny family and brought them to his face. He pressed them against his cheek and nuzzled them.
“I'm so, so, so glad… I was afraid you… it’s been half a week.” He mumbled with a strangled voice. Macaque patted Wukong cheek and wiped away the tears forming in his eyes. The pups also put their tiny hands on the golden monkey cheek, their fingers sinking in his fur. Savage tried to reach for his nose but she failed and returned to his cheek. It felt as light as a butterfly caress. Wukong wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
When the rest of the pilgrims awakened, they all fretted over Macaque and made sure he was okay. Sanzang asked at least a dozen questions on his wound and if he needed any more healing. Ao Lie fretted over him and the babies, covering them in headpats. Wujing asked if he needed anything and brought tiny blankets and the babies’ toys. Bajie prepared his favorite broth and served him a bigger portion than usual.
As he was sipping his broth, his cubs still latching to him, Macaque felt like, even if his left eye was blind, he would make it through. He had a lot of people to help him after all.
“You're staring an awful lot.” Joked Macaque as he turned towards the great sage. Sun Wukong startled, he scratched his neck in embarrassment, the tip of his ears reddening.
“Well… huh… I wanted to tell you something. But I think I'm gonna wait until tomorrow.”
“Why is that ?” Asked the black-furred monkey with a tilted head.
Sun Wukong's eyes fell on the pups, still buried in Macaque's neck, and he smiled. “Well, you just woke up, so everyone kinda needs their fill of Macaque. Especially those two lil gremlins. I'll wait tomorrow to steal you away.”
Macaque raised an eyebrow at the vague phrasing. What did he mean by stealing him away? The black-furred monkey averted his eyes, he felt his heart beats a little bit faster. God, he really ought to get this feeble organ under control. Macaque buried his face in his cubs to hide his reddening cheeks.
+ cut scenes
Savage *buried in Macaque's fur* : This is my place now and I will never leave 😠
Rumble *buried in Macaque's fur* : the perfect bed, 😌
Wukong inner thoughts : Should I confess right now? 🤔
Wukong *seeing the cubs latch on Mac like he's their lifeline* : Aww 🥰, okay maybe tomorrow
Savage *pawing Wukong's cheek* : Why is Pa face so big? I can't reach his nose to boop him! 😠
Rumble *pawing Wukong's cheek* : My fingers are sinking in all this fur. Is Pa a floof quicksand? 🤔

In regard to Shadowpeach not being able to have kids (due to Macaque not being able to carry for whatever reason), why didn’t Wukong offer to carry the child? He can shape shift and they could probably use powerful magic. Will that be something they’ll try/explore in the future or why didn’t they try that in the first place (is it all due to Macaque being trans? I’m sure he could shape shift too or use something magical?) I love your AU!! I’m just curious about other options. :)
Well I’m my AU he’s offered but there isn’t much success no matter what- how I have it work is that they are both very unnatural beings- so think how powerful creature in fantasy typically have small litters- because usually just one is strong- but in nature you don’t want too many of those strong creatures so the chance of breeding is rare
They had that against them from the start
Then- add in immortalities straying you further from being anything natural- fertility was down the drain when Wukong managed to gain layers of his immortality before he and Mihou were even wed
Their options are essentially nothing but adopting- and it’s managed to fulfill Macaque enough since he was raised by someone he considers his own father growing up. He’s never not see his children as anything but his own blood or not- it just hurt him for awhile seeing he’d never manage to make a life with his husband and Wukong really wasn’t sure how to fix it since it was too late when the learned all this

Sun Wukong, the Monkey King: my design notes [!! click here for the full line-up !!] [click here for just the goodies on tumblr]
also titled, "I underestimated my file sizes" TAT Separate images and info below the read more, beware this is LONG <3
Stone Monkey: himbs baby, that is all <3 he's mostly based off the François Langur, but some of his anatomy and proportions lean more on the Gray Langur and Macaque side of things. His facial fur sort of forms a pentagon shape for the five elements, and I gave him ginger fur cus it's a common depiction for him but also baby langurs are very bright orange, and him not growing dark feels like an apt display of his more childish side, both good and bad. His nails are golden for a bit of a "hidden gem" from a stone egg. Also keeping the tail either in a spiral of C-curve when "engaged", and when droopy it has a feel of a heavy rope. Old World monkeys don't have prehensile tails, he can use it for balance and basic mobility but it's not a third hand for the sake of keeping his monkey-ness.
Handsome Monkey King: in one of the poems the monkeys are said to weave grass for mattresses, so I can see them coming up with a crown of woven grass and never-fading leaves and flowers for their king at the very least. His face skin is darker as an adult, but not much else changes overall. The fuzzy upper lips and sideburns are a feature of the species I'm basing him on and it felt like a good fit to add. I also love the forest langurs are so long-furred, makes for a good way to give him dimension but also, the linework style reminds me of old woodcut shorthands for fur. Added a jade coin for the symbolism, and it feels fitting that the king of such a miraculous mountain would have a treasure like that on him. Placcid chill eyes are imperative, dude's not had an existential crisis yet, he's straight up vibing.
Sun Wukong: during his odd-ten years away from home, he learned human manners so he can stand but, I can see him still needing to lean on his tail to keep up his balance here and there. As he reaches the Western Continent (India) and learns the Way under Patriarch Subodhi, he adopts proper clothes for an apprentice and eventually becomes a Rishi. He dons his facial paint from then on, and after he masters the Way, there's a brightness in his pupils to show his cultivated immortality. The beads are purple solely to stand out over the deluge of oranges that is his design.
Great Sage Equal to Heaven: really went all out on this one orz this is Wukong at his most egotistical and ambitious, and I wanted his fit to truly embody that. Took bits from Peking Opera costumes and common depiction elements of him, with some bit of extra for appropriate levels of flair, like the phoenix feather design. I wanted to go for a mountain pattern mail but I couldn't figure out how to draw it, so I winged a pattern. I,,, doubt I'll ever draw this armor as detailed as here, but I wanted it to feel a bit overwhelming to look at, while also seeming like it doesn't quite fit him perfectly like it's swallowing him. Bit of a "baby wearing their parent's shoes" kind of vibe; he's stupidly powerful but he doesn't have what it takes to sit on the throne of Heaven. Also I leaned his expression to how he might appear during the Havoc in Heaven and then his bet with the Buddha. Full unbrindled rage murder monkey <3
-- Ruyi Jingu Bang: can't quite move on without my notes on the golden-hooped cudgel, now can I? The secondary hoops are there for further design appeal and for my own visualization of how the staff changes size (the hoops move over the staff's length as if to push it outward or inward). The metal is dark damascus alloy, though the pattern can be omitted for ease of drawing. One hoop end depicts a dragon, the other a phoenix, and in the middle of the staff is the canon inscription as described in the books, in seal script. Glow is optional and mostly for aesthetics.
Sun Pilgrim: out of his stolen armor, Wukong seems to swim in his robes but in a less overwhelming way. Went for the simple fillet headband cus his face is busy enough as it is. I know he's skilled enough to skin a tiger into pretty decent squares, but after one too many battles, anything would get tattered. He wears red, teal, black and yellow, four of the five cardinal colors, while white (the West) is still missing. His red and black half-robe doesn't fully cover the yellow underneath, a call back to his golden armor; he tries to use his wisdom and teachings to fight back the impulses of his past, but they still shine through at times. I kept only the leg bangs for dynamic elements to better show movement, but also one could say he's got.... golden hoops (haha get it, like his cudgel?? :oD)
Victorious Fighting Buddha: leaned hard on the actual portrayals of the Buddha. Seeing that he's depicted with dark/blue skin, it felt appropriate to let the guy grow out of his baby ginger fur and into adult black, but a patch remains where the golden headband used to be. I didn't want to give him long hair so no bun, but instead, his fur has a sorta lotus-petals shape now rather than his single point. His face paint changes into a more domino-mask style, and his brow white line resembles a teardrop urna. I made the mail piece he holds longer to keep the flowy bits of his previous outfits, and I turned Ruyi Jingu Bang into the sword he wields.
Hello hi, this robbed me of three days of my life and I'd like to receive compensation x.x Anyway hope you enjoy this lad, I know I do! Also if you wanna send me asks about him pls feel welcome to, I'd love to chat about this bastard monkey (affectionate) (loving) (i`d die for him)

Hi! So, you said you wouldn’t be opposed if I wrote a hurt and comfort so, here you go!!
Peaches hates them. Hates them more than she thought possible. Her anger is intense and often times all consuming. It leads to hot words that only wind up cutting herself and lashing out at hands who only wish to feed. She chooses to be as difficult as absolutely possible. They want her to sit? She’d rather stand. Time to take a nap? She’s feeling energized enough to run laps around the mountain.
Anything. Anything at all to feel like she has some kind of control.
She needs it, to keep her sanity.
It’s hard, when she knows she’s powerless. Wukong and Macaque love to flaunt it in her face. Showing off their strength, holding her even when she pushes against them…. tracing loving shapes into her skin with blood stained claws.
She still smells the iron.
Sweet fruit is pushed between her lips when she is lost in her mind. Soft humming is heard as she is propped up against a sturdy chest. They always find a way to bring her back down to earth. A way to ground her. They can’t just let her float away, can they? Just let her leave, let her find peace.
It’s days like this that are the worst though. When she wakes up, pressed between two warm bodies and feeling completely and utterly helpless.
Thoughts of all her useless fighting, her old village, her old home, flash through her mind and it leaves tears in her eyes. So much has been lost. She can’t handle it.
Subconsciously she inches closer towards Macaque. She hates them, but they’re the only things that can provide comfort.
Wukong wakes up first, hearing the telltale sniffles of a peach in distress. Gently he reaches over, and grabs peaches tense body, stiffly rolling her over so she can face him. “What’s the matter Peaches?” She shakes her head. It’s pointless. Yet she still tries.
“I want to go home.”
And just like clockwork, Wukong responds with a well remembered reply. “Oh, but Peaches. You are home.”
Peaches breaks. An ugly sob rips through her chest and both monkeys become very aware of just how much pain she’s in.
It is now that Macaque has awoken as well, mumbling sleepily, reaching out to grab at her, his brain hard wired to comfort his mate.
She can’t handle it anymore. She feels too much grief and it’s just so much easier to let herself fall into their comfort. It’d be too easy to just give up, to stop fighting.
Wukong gently shushes her, cradling her close as Macaque sits beside him, running a clawed hand through her hair. It’s soothing, it brings her so much comfort. It feels like love, it feels like home.
Macaque takes Peaches out of Wukongs arms and lays down, with her head resting on his chest. Wukong lays down and spoons her, wrapping an arm around her stomach.
“You’re okay Peaches. You’re okay.” She hears them whisper into her hair and she believes them.
She’s okay. She’s okay. She’s okay.
Even if she’s not.
Hope you liked it! I had fun writing it!!
oooohoh nice
good and angsty :)

Monkies Deserve Better References pt 1
This is a bit of a long one so to save people who follow me for my other series I'm going to put it behind a 'read more' line. Both for that reason and because I couldn't be bothered drawing clothes so the references are naked (not like anything graphic though, they're basically shaped like barbies, don't worry)!
The reference I used I found on pinterest but was made by Toresoza on Twitter for those who want a better high quality version with all the hand shapes will have to find it on Twitter, but for now have this low quality Pinterest one to start out.
Now! Onto the proper references! Keep in mind this is how the characters look from anything before Macaque's Not Alright! There might be some missing scars that the characters should have in canon that they don't have here (namely MK because it was 4 am and I forgot) so they might change slightly but for now here we go!
Let's start with Wukong! First with his glamours up and then with them down! (Peach included because I couldn't get the little shit's hand to work with me so I fed him).
The scar on his brow and cheek would very likely be canon as well as the one on his upper left arm and right elbow which would have all happened during the fight with Nezha.
Included on his face are also the headband scars, burns around his eyes which are red after the Demon Hospital fiasco. Also from the demon hospital fiasco are most of the dark patches on his body (realizing now I missed another burn spot on his inner right forearm that's older than the rest but that's fine). When he was tossed in the forget his fur was magically burned whever it was touching the table which is why he has lines on his tail, wrists and ankles (noticed another mistake on his tail but AGAIN IT WAS LATE LET ME LIVE /lh /j). I'll fix it later but I'm too tired to bother now.
The injuries on his chest and stomach are a mix of the Demon Hospital stuff and MK's Not Alright injuries while the white on his back, shoulders, sides and hips are all from LBD :3
Other details about MDB/MAA Wukong as well as all of the monkeys is that his fur and hair are slightly different shades that are barley noticeable (I'm even questioning if I did it for him but I'm going to hope I did x'D). Wukong is also covered in freckles which he doesn't bother glamouring due to how much energy it would take.
Wukong also shares a bit of a 'dad bod' with Canon Wukong (I'm still learning how to draw weight, so ignore that he looks pregnant he's just supposed to be a little squishy). He is also the tallest of the three monkeys I have done, standing at a super tall /s 5'6" (167 cm/66 in (according to Google)).
-----
Next is Macaque who until I actually did this I thought had the most scars. Nope. His scars are the biggest but he probably has the least amount of scars x'D
Macaque's canon injuries on his chest and eye are visible when he's not glamoured but not nearly as obvious as his newer scars.
On his back is a whip scar that he got from Havoc and Confusion - the timeline on this is messed up and will be edited sooner or later -but it happened when he was quite young and doesn't bother him nearly as much as some of the other scars.
The scar on his right thigh, palms of his hand, horizontally across his chest and through his stomach all came from the Seven-Star Sword.
The three scars across his chest are from Wukong's Not Alright when he was cut down by the giant cat monster. This is also when the edges of his fur started to grow in white when they grew back (he should have a couple of other white patches on his body from smaller injuries but they don't have set spots other than *maybe* in his inner elbows, but again, it's not set).
Then, the final and newest scars are on his hips which he gained during the most recent run in with Confusion.
The white on his fur and in his hair is his 'natural' color from before he was killed the first time (not when Wukong killed him) while the blue is from LBD. The blue will likely never turn fully white but might lighten over time to be a more gray color than blue, but that will take a long time and unless Macis willing to shave himself completely most of his fur will always remain black
Other details about Macaque are his six ears in his unglamoured form which are red, blue and teal based on the colors from the 2009 Monkey King series which also inspired a lot of Macaque's background and life story.
Macaque is the smallest of the three monkeys and stands at 5'3" (160 cm /63.6 In).
--------
Finally, there's MK and oh boy. I didn't realize how much of a break this kid needed after all of this but considering how his scars look I'm about to send him on vacation. A paid vacation with therapy included because holy shit.
After I finished making MK I realized I forgot to look for any canon scars that he would have, but considering most of them would be covered by fur I'm also not in a rush to go through and look through them.
His oldest scar is on his forehead mostly hidden by his hair which is the scar mentioned in the third chapter in the series. From there the scars get bigger and more dramatic the longer it goes on, so let's go through the list.
The scars on his right shoulder is from the snakes that infest the Earth Turtle! Also from his adventure on the Earth Turtle are his top surgery scars which he doesn't glamour (he spends too much time/energy glamouring everything else and he's proud of them, so why bother).
He has a matching wound to Macaque on his lower left stomach (which might be in the wrong spot but again i'm tired) came from Monkies Aren't Alright when Chang Liu stabs him with an immortal killing weapon to have access to what 'makes him tick'.
Then in MK's Not Alright he got attacked by another non-venomous snake that bit his left shin and left deep scarring there as well but oddly enough that was the only scar he gained from that one.
In Wukong's Not Alright he gained two scars, the one through his right shin and the wound to his left shoulder blade.
The rest of the scars - the one on his face, most of the ones on his cheek, chest, back, legs, and tail all came from Macaque's not alright with some other minor scars that I forgot about x'D. They are a mixture of whip wounds, slash wounds and burns all came from Havoc, Ginger and Confusion trying to control him.
Other details include slight discoloration on his fingers from the same torture he went through to get the majority of his scars. Part of his bangs are discolored to be white and he's covered in countless white freckles giving him a very 'starry' appearance to him. (which in a way makes his fur look like space with the scars being shooting stars and planets).
MK is the 'middle' monkey and stands at 5'5" (165cm/65in , only an inch shorter than Wukong.
-----
That's all that I have done right now but I'm hoping to make Loi, Red, Mei, and Nezha at some point as well as Tu, Yuanhou, Mihou, Changpu, Pengu and a super secret fifth option too ;3
That being said, if there are any characters you want me to try to make a reference for, just let me know. These were just some of the ones most requested by my discord and friends so I thought I'd do them first. Once I have the others done though, I'll post them.

Lego Monkie Kid x Moana AU
Rewatched Moana and was like: "Man, Maui is kinda like Wukong" and now we have this
Explanation
(i might edit this as i go)
MK(Moana): A strange but hyperactive boy, who dreams about great voyages at sea. The same his hero, Sun Wukong, also went on. From a young age, he has felt connection to the ocean, that can never truly be explained.
Wukong(Maui): "The great demigod equal to the seven seas. He has been on many great voyages, on which he has liftided up the sky, created coconuts among many other things. He once had compainions with him on these journeys, but they are all gone now. He also possesed the abilty to transform, but for some reason, cant anymore... He is currently trapped on an Island, unable to get away. He also hates that he is demigod, and will correct anyone who says he is one.
Pigsy and Tang(Moanas parents): The head chief of the island, and his husband, who despartly tried to get MK to stop waisting his time with The Monkie Kings stories and instead become the head chief of the island. They simply dont want him to be like thoughs monsters, from the Monkie king stories, that they may be related to in some way or the other...
Nuwa(Grandma Tala): She isnt MK's real grandma, but he still calls her it (even though her dads does not like her). She told MK all the great stories of the Monkie King, which started his hyperfixation on Sun Wukong and dreams about fantastic voayges. She did this in the hopes he could do... something with this. Im making her morally grey in this AU, since in canon we dont know Nuwa yet.. She was also the one who gave him, his staff-shaped necklace.
Sandy(The water): He is literally a water demon originally- of course i had to make him the morally support water that helps MK through his journery.
Spider Queen(Tamatoa): A giand spider crab, that loves gold as much as herself. She also seems to have the knowledge of why Wukong cant transform anymore.
The Demon Bull family(The coconut pirates): Yea- they just here for the chaos, the funsies, and being good villians, just like the show. :D
Macaque(Tefiti): Once a mighty warrior, that traveled with the great sage, and had a very close bond with. But now he is an angry and terryfing shadow monster Why has he changed? Well, that is the quiston isnt it?;) (Dont worry i have a good angsty backstory for it)

Having Macaque x Reader x Sun Wukong timeloop thoughts and I’m considering the idea of, reader got isekai’d time traveled back to JTTW times and went on the journey and died.
And Sun Wukong is real broken up about it but as time goes on he starts to see the future that reader always told him about take shape and he realizes that if there’s ever gonna be a time where he finds them again it’s gonna be soon.
And he finds them! At first he thinks it’s a reincarnation and he gets another chance except-
Except things are too similar. Everything is unfolding just as they always talked about. Their home life is the same, their friends are the same.
This isn’t a reincarnation. It’s them. The them before they got sent back.
And that means they’re going to die.
And he could stop it! He could be there this time-
But…but what would happen if he did? Would that change things? Would he forget about them if he did?
But then the moment comes and while he’s been dreading it this whole time he reacts without thinking to save them from the truck or the stairs or the mugger or whatever else kills them and he saves them. He was there. No matter what else he can’t live with them dying when he could’ve stopped it.
But now. Now he realizes, the them that he fell in love with no longer exists because of him.
And oops that means they never get sent back so he has no reason to be there at that specific time to save them meaning they die and get sent back and the whole thing starts all over again.
Little things might change, Wukong and reader might feel immediately drawn to eachother. But they don’t remember. Not directly. It’s more like a sense of deja vu.
Macaque meanwhile, initially really only wanted Reader because they’re just another thing that he can take from Wukong, the best trophy he could have.
So when he starts to hear things that are happening way farther out than what he’s normally capable of hearing of? It doesn’t take much to start piecing things together, he doesn’t know specifics, but like a quiet whisper on a wind he starts to pick things up. Suddenly reader becomes forefront of his mind because they indirectly have given him a second chance. He did enjoy their company…He still hates Wukong but he’s found something he wants more than Wukong’s life.
So all the while Wukong and Reader are piecing together what’s going on, because Macaque sure as shit isn’t going to tell them, Macaque is busy doing his own scheming trying to put a stop to it and that usually involves kidnapping Reader and keeping them as far away from anything even remotely dangerous as possible. Hell at one point he tried bypassing Wukong entirely by replacing him from the get go and going around Five phases mountain, he lasted pretty long but still got murked in the end, (likely by the Samadhi Fire.). Eventually he grits his teeth, and temporarily sets aside his differences with Wukong and joins them in the journey but makes it very clear from the get go that he’s only interested in keeping reader safe.
And oops wouldn’t you know it without the prerequisite of stealing Wukong’s identity and cannibalizing his family Wukong is pretty chill with Macaque. The memories come back slowly and by the time Wukong remembers all that Macaque has done to him over several lifetimes…it’s hard to reconcile that bastard in his memories with this edgy loner monkey that’s been traveling with them.
Macaque meanwhile really wants to avoid having that particular convo but at the same time, he’s also getting exactly what he wants out of this. He’s on the journey, by his own merits! He’s getting recognition for his own acts, be appreciated for who he is. Shit if he keeps up this good behavior he has a real shot at being a buddha.
But he still committed very very serious crimes. And honestly he doesn’t even feel that bad about them. Didn’t then, and in this time he hasn’t even committed them yet so is he really responsible for them?
It would take a major heart to heart to finally get the two of them to reconcile everything that’s happened with where they are at now.
Could take the form of the Macaque arc in the book instead this time it’s actually dark reflections of themselves given form. (Like how it is in other tellings)
Eventually the timeloop would end by getting reader to the end of the journey and achieving the not-dying immortality. Because no doubt Wukong and Macaque both tried to feed them any and all manner of immortality granting fruit.
#jttw#jttw reader#sun wukong x reader#macaque x reader#Making Macaque suffer in angsty ways is my favorite pastime#also Wukong never fully forgives Macaque for being a cannibal let’s make that clear#but like considering he doesn’t get the opportunity to do so by the time he joins it’s easier to reconcile I guess you could say?

LMK with an affectionate S/O
Sun Wukong, Macaque, Red Son x Gn! reader (separate)
~
Notes: Hello! This is my first time writing for LMK as I just started watching the show four days ago and binged it soooo,,,, kinda hyper fixated lol
~
~
Sun Wukong~
Wukong LOVES how affectionate you are and is just as touchy as you are!
One of his favourite things to do is cuddle on the couch with you, your hands playing with his fur and his tail wrapped snugly around your waist as you two watch one of his cheesy TV shows
Will constantly literally crawl all over you, perching on your shoulders, all that good stuff
He is not shy whatsoever with PDA
Will hold your hand, kiss you, hug you, fuck you
If your more of a private touchy, he will tone it down to wrapping his tail around your waist or wrist as you walk together
Speaking of,,,
His tail is VERY sensitive, especially near the tip
If you play with it, petting it gently while you cuddle he will absolutely melt in your grasp
And purr
He purrs a lot
First time it happened he was embarrassed as fuck, tried to gaslight you into thinking you farted or sumthin
And while he is not opposed to kissing you anytime of the day no matter where you are, if you kiss him out of the blue he is going to be a lot more flustered
He will SWOON, BITCH
SWOON
All tension leaves him, he has a lovesick smile on his face, his tail shapes a heart, the whole shabang
He may love it if you're touchy, but he will not like it if you're clingy.
He’s the Monkey king! Great sage equal to heaven! He’s got important stuff to do!
Not saying that you aren't important to him, but
Y’know
Immortal monkey king stuff
There are some things he cannot and will not involve you, or anyone he cares about, in. It’s just much too dangerous
But!
When he comes back from these dangerous adventures, you can hold him until you both fall asleep
~
Wukong sighs happily, laying with his head on your chest, your hand buried in his hair and scratching his scalp absentmindedly as you keep your gaze on the TV. His tail whips back and forth lazily and he traces random shapes into your side with his short claws. He snickers when you shiver beneath him. He smirks into your neck and quickly moves his tail up to your face, flicking it gently under your nose before you can register it there.
“A-ah! Wukong!” You bat his tail away as you sneeze, he giggles into your neck and squeezes your waist. “What the hell?” You snatch his tail out of the air and start to fiddle with it as you go back to the TV show. Wukong stills above you before he absolutely melts into your arms. He almost falls between you and the back of the couch as his eyes slip closed.
You glance down at him when a soft purring meets your ears. You can feel his chest rumble against you. Your eyes narrow as you take in his blissed out expression, then the tail sitting innocently in your hands.
Revenge was in your hands.
You tug playfully at his tail and relish the shrill ‘eep!’ he yelped out. He sat up away from you, zipping to the other side of the couch before you could blink, a playful glare lighting up his face. He cradled his tail in his hands, petting the tip gently. “What was that for?!”
“You did it to me!” You laugh.
“You pulled my tail!” Wukong whines, still holding his tail.
“Pssshh. You’ve been thrown through mountains before.” You roll your eyes fondly at his dramatics. You turn back to the TV and pat the cushion next to you. “C’mon, oh Great Sage.”
You heard him let out a ‘hmph!’ and you turn back to him only to see his arms are crossed and he’s facing away from you. But, at the angle you were sitting, you could see a ghost of a smile pushing his cheeks up.
You smile fondly before reaching over your side of the couch and into an overnight bag you had brought along. Pulling out a fluffy blanket and a (hopefully not crushed) bag of Peach Chips. You spotted Wukong’s ears perk up at the crinkling of the snack bag. You crawl over the small distance between the two of you and curl up beside him, resting your head on his shoulder and pulling the blanket around both of you.
You saw his nose twitch as you handed him the snack, a sly smile on your lips.
“Hm, I guess I forgive you.” He snatches the bag from you and rips it open practically before he finishes talking.
“Love you, too.” You mutter quietly as you cuddle into his side. You smile again when a fluffy tan blur enters your vision, gently rubbing your cheek before settling around your shoulders.
Macaque~
Does not like affection
But is touch starved and craves it
Don't tell anybody
Tries to convince both you and himself that he hates it
But you know the truth
The way he sighs happily when scratch behind his ears, how he almost doesn't notice when he grabs your hand when your cold, tucking both his and yours into his pocket, the way he always touches you even when it's not necessary
He doesn't often stay in one place for long so it's always a long time between your meetings
Most of the time he arrives in the night, shifting through the shadows into your room, crawling into bed next to you and drifting off to sleep with his tail wrapped around you
When you two first slept in the same bed it was a wild ride
No not like that
Macaque is.. Traumatized to say the very least, but likes to act like nothing bothers him
But it becomes obvious when he can't sleep unless his back is facing a wall, he curls up with his arms wrapped protectively around himself, the works
It honestly makes you sad, but his tail around your waist assures you he’s okay, and him, you
He’s very subtle with his affection and in turn expects the same from you
The most he will allow in public is hand holding, but considering he can teleport or travel quickly through shadows you usually don't have the chance for people to see you anyway
Macaque is very insecure about his own self worth, and he constantly wonders if your affections are genuine
Do you really love him? Him? Why would you love him when you are so so so perfect and could have anyone you want? Someone who isn't broken?
Its my personal headcanon that he doesn't have a lot of body fur left, most of it unable to grow due to excess amount of scars and burns from,,, well from hell
It takes a while, but when you do eventually get intimate you MUST praise and reassure him
And that is not a problem for you, you happily do so
Will honestly tear up a little if your cuddling in a quiet moment between the two of you and you trace his scars, kiss them, tell him he’s pretty
AAHHH I LOVE THIS SAD EMO MONKEY
~
Rain pitter pattered against your bedroom window, it was briefly blocked when Macaque emerged from his shadow, looking into your bedroom. He held his hands up to the window around his eyes as he peered inside. A small smile graced his feature as he spotted you, his lovely s/o, sleeping soundly under your covers. He placed his hand against the wall and a shadow portal appeared, he quickly walked through it, appearing inside of your room soundlessly.
Carefully avoiding all the nicknacks and clothes littering your floor he made his way to your bed where you lay. He pauses beside you, gently reaching a hand down to brush the hair out of your face. You were sleeping in your usual place on the outer side from where your bed was placed against the wall. He knew you slept there, never by the wall, all in hopes he would come back to you in the night and you would wake up beside him.
Macaque leaned down and gently kissed your head, his tail caressing your bare arm. He fell into the shadow beneath him without a sound and emerged through the wall above the bed, bouncing slightly as he landed atop the covers beside you. He lifted the fluffy duvet and silently slipped under, pausing when you shifted in your sleep. He laid down, pressing his back to the wall as you turned over, a sleepy smile gracing your beautiful face.
“Hey, Mac….” You reached a hand forward and he met it halfway with his tail, the furry appendage curling gently between your fingers. You brought it to your mouth and kissed it gently. Macaque was suddenly very glad the dark cover of night hid the extra red adorning his cheeks. “G’night..” You slurred moments before you slipped back into unconsciousness.
Macaque stayed awake for a few moments longer, looking at you, taking in your features, committing them to memory like this would be the last time he would be with you. He smiled again, a rare genuine smile that felt forein to wear as he curled up under the warmth of the covers, pulling his knees to his chest.
“Good night, Princess.”
Red Son~
Gasp
What is this?
Normal, healthy, love and affection???
It can't be!
Gets really flustered any time you show him an OUNCE of affection he is done for
He gets so flustered and when he gets flustered he gets angry
Not at you tho
Er kinda
Anyway
You’ll have to be very, very selective when you give him affection
If your in front of his parents, he’ll get flustered and defensive
If you're in public around strangers, he gets weirdly jealous?
If your around his, f-f-f *casually throws up* f-frIeNdSss, he’ll be so humiliated he can never face any of them again. He’s a demon, the son of The Demon Bull King for goodness sake!
But, if you're in private, he’ll accept your advances without much more than getting huffy.
Red Son is not one for very touchy feely moments, he likes more quiet, subtle, domestic affection.
One situation you find yourself in constantly is sitting beside him as he tinkers in his workshop. The quiet peace between the two of you is never awkward or dull either.
He’s preoccupied fiddling with his nerd things and is comforted by the fact that your just,,, there
There with him
Kind of off topic but he was STRESSED when you first met his parents, their approval means a lot to him
The mere thought of them not liking you is both absurd and horrifying
Okay back on topic
When you first got together you didn’t exactly realize how he embarrassed he could get
In hindsight it seems pretty obvious but oh well
You grabbed his hand once out of the blue and his hair set fire
He gets SOOO cocky if you think his fire is cool
It really just gives you more ammunition to cuddle with
Oh, it's cold today? NOT FOR LONG
He’ll reluctantly let you drag him to his bed and climb under the covers with you, focusing on his power so he can heat you up and hopefully not set you on fire
That would probably not be good
He would be a lot more willing to go along with, and return your affectionate gestures if you could keep up with him on the daily
He teases you, you tease him, he does something amazing, you praise him, ect.
There are a few times when he will initiate
Usually quiet moments, or when your feeling down, or when your mad at him and he tries to apologize
It never fails to make you feel better when he slides in beside you and slips his hand in yours and let you lean against him
All in all, I 1000% recommend angry fire boy to cuddle with. Very toasty
~
“Could you hand me that screwdriver?” Red Son's voice breaks the peaceful silence between the both of you. You look up from the book in your hands to see one of his extended out to you, his head buried in his current project.
Looking over to the tray of tools beside you, you grab a small black and yellow one with a flat tip and place it in his awaiting palm. “This one?”
“Yea- wait, no, the green one.”
“Oohh.” you quickly switch the tools, handing him the right one this time. He mutters what you think is a ‘thanks’ and dives back into tinkering. You gently close your book and set it on the table. You lean forward, resting your head on his shoulder as you peered at the scrap metal in his lap. “Watcha making?”
“Well, at first it was going to be an extension to that car over there,” he jabs a finger over to the right, you follow it to see a sleek red car he had just completed the week before. It's too bad they get destroyed most of the time, all of his mechs were really pretty. “But now I think it’s…” He trails off, spinning the contraption in his hands, trying to find an angle that made it look like something recognizable.
“..A waffle maker.?” You offer. Sure, the waffles would be a misshapen ball, but a waffle nonetheless.
He turns to you confused as you slip into the seat beside him. “What the hell is a waffle?”
“Ah, a popular western breakfast food.”
“Huh. Sounds stupid.”
You roll your eyes, hand trailing upwards to play with his red hair. “Well, whatever it turns out to be, I’m sure it’ll be perfect, Red.”
His chest puffs up and he turns to you with a cocky smirk, “well, of course it will! It was made by me!”
“Sure, sure, whatever you say, Red.” You wrap your arms around his and lay your head on his shoulder again. You realize quickly that clinging to his arm would hinder his ability to work so you go to let go, only to be stopped by Red Son resting his head atop yours. He really didn't seem to mind the slow pace.
You leaned up quickly to kiss his cheek before settling back into place, snuggling into him further when his body heat suddenly ramped up. Not that you minded, of course, for a castle with lava as decor, it could get surprisingly cold down there.

Hello!! I would like to do some fanart for the ship children for each of the kids of the wukongverse except I can't really find some descriptions for some of them, like keto and rahu who I think were only mentioned once(??) Do you by chance have a link for them or a tag?
Of course! I always welcome fanart of my aus or ideas! ^♡^
I'll try to do decent descriptions for all ze babies/fan children.
Lego Monkie Kid - Shadowpeach (multiple aus);
Zàoyīn & Bàoliè/"Rumble & Savage" - tiny black-furred baby monkeys with red face masks + Macaque's dark skin. Get into a lot of havoc despite being the size of marmosets. Develop little red "tiger stripes" on their limbs and tails as they get older. Rumble has natural six-ears.
Yuebei Xing - the baby girl herself and star of the SlowBoiled au. Tiniest black furball ever. Big blue eyes (often caused by eating LBD's soul). And a white skull-shaped face marking. Grows to be much taller than either parent. Here's some super cute fanart done by @teatime-at-4 + teenage Yuebei by @soniclozdplove + an older version of her done in the LMK OC Picrew.
Jidu & Luohuo - born shortly after Yuebei, and named for the lunar nodes/phenomena making them the "Nodelets". Furs are a mix of orange and black like tortoiseshell cats. Both have four purple and orange ears. Very mischievous.
Luzhen - technically Wukong's little brother, depending on the au. Looks like a little clone of him, but with deep blue eyes. Loves music.
Ziqi - newest baby idea. Named for the last Lunar phenomena (Perigee/a supposed "shadow planet") not given a character in Journey to the South. Surprise baby. Pure black (like a shadow) with hazy purple eyes, and face marking.
+some lovely human glamour designs made by @soniclozdplovesonic for the Post Jttw Stone Egged au. I praise their work openly, they are amazing.
Monkey King Hero is Back - ReboundedHeroes;
Xiaoyun/"Little Cloud" - born from a mysterious cloud-patterned Stone Egg. Egg was damaged before hatching; causing the right eye, right ear(s), and right arm not to develop correctly. Pure white fluffy fur, like a cloud. Very small and skinny due to being born premature. Very adventurous, gives his parents frequent heart attacks.
Yǔ Sōng & Xuě Bào - Twin girls born sometime into the family's Journey across the kingdoms. Look like little toasted macaroons with six ears each, and violet eyes. Develop their baba's red-auburn when they grow up.
+Shui Lian - Adopted. AU form of the White-Faced Vixen. Due to timeline changes, the "vixen" is rather only a pre-teen kit. Has albinism and is unable to hide her fox ears and tail despite mostly-human form.
Monkey King Reborn - Fruitiedads;
Xiao Qi - Fruitie/Qi Energy reborn as a Stone Monkey egg by sheer willpower. Fur so white it look transparent. Pink skin + pink heart-shaped face marking. Big smiley baby. Looks like a fairytale prince.
Xiao Lü - reincarnation of Yuandi/Primordium created when Nüwa tricked Smokey/SWK into creating a clay figure to house the primordial soul - which became a new stone egg. Pure black fur, light skin, and no noticeable face marking as if yet. Has little grey "shoes" on the fur around her feet - hence the name.
5 False Ginseng Fruit Babies - complete and utter accident on the monkeys part. Smokey tried growing the pit from the Ginseng fruit he ate in hopes that the resulting tree could help reinvigorate the damaged FFM. Liang/LEM watered/tended to the tree while he was gone. It did not in fact bare Ginseng Fruit - but five whole newborn monkey cubs - all named after stone fruits. Current draft of the au places their "fruiting" after the Journey once everyone's come home. More detailed post here.
Lìzhī & Hǎizǎo - Twins. Born at the crux of the Journey. Accidentally delivered inside the Thunderclap Monastery. Look like miniature versions of Smokey, tiny brown furred grumpy things.
+Zhu Yu & Ku Ai / Wood Wolf Siblings - Adopted. The children of Kui Mulang/Revati/Yellow Robed Demon and the Princess Baihuaxiu. After the stray star wolf entity was captured, the Princess wanted nothing to do with her half-wolf children (given that they were conceived in less than ideal circumstances) and the human king wanted them destroyed. The pilgrims take the little werewolves into their group. Older girl and younger boy, both below the age of seven. Mix of brown and grey fur/hair like regular wolf pups. Think the kids from Wolf Children Ami & Yuki.
Monkey King 2023/Netflix - CherryandOliveStones;
Xiaoshi - created when Cherry/SWK wanted to see if he could make "another him" from clay and a pebble after he had learned the story of Nüwa. Clay Egg became a real Stone Egg. Xiaoshi has bright orange fur and light briwn face markings. Rarely doesn't have paint or ink in his fur. Link to some amazing art done by @tsa-smth.
Hǔpò & Zhēnzhū aka "The Pebbles" - natural babies. Look like little clones of their LEM (black fur with white accents) with their dear baba's green eyes.
Luzhen (yes another one) - miniature version of Cherry/SWK. Possible little brother.
New Gods series - Jackpotshipping;
Xiaozhēn - dumpster baby. Possible half-monkey demon. Fluffy brown fur, built like a dad - cus he is one. Is in his 30s demon-wise. Has kids of his own.
Unnamed newborn twins nicknamed "Two Pair" (x) - dark fur and brown eyes. One baby is an attempted changeling - but they aren't sure which one.
Meihouwang 2009 - Peachbuds;
Ketu & Rahu - a pair of twins, one a loose Stone Egg that arrived in a comet, the other an egg formed naturally between the parents (they're all grown up by now ofc). Both have a mix of silver and gold fur, like their parents when they were younger. Rahu has six ears. Here's the post you mentioned!
Smash Legends - FabledConnections;
No definite kids, but I'd imagine they'd be a mix of black and white fur. Like tuxedo cats.
No kids planned for the 1999/2000 Legends cartoon pair (yet)
Thank you so much for your interest in all of this - I try to keep all these ideas under the tag #jttw inspo fan children when I can. If you decide to make fanart for any of these babies (or the parents), make sure to @ me so I can see!
