ok so this is from all the way back when i watched velvet buzzsaw (yall know me, i love my unhinged jake gyllenhaal movies) and has no real relation to it besides the fact that i was bored and thinking ab how annoying pretentious art

so basically byler's in college and mike's an english major and will's an art major. obviously. so they've got this apartment in the city and they're writing a comic book together on the side. but that's not the point. all these pretentious art critics keep denying will's work from this super prestigious program and will's super bummed. mike tries to cheer him up by making fun of modern art with scribbles on napkins.

and somehowww the scribbles get mixed up with will's portfolio and all of a sudden these pretentious art critics are like WOW MR WHEELER YOURE AN ARTISTIC GENIUS and mike is like 🧍wot m8. and so now everyone's obsessed with his work and he thinks it's the funniest shit. but i dont wanna create any 'the fame is getting to his head' or 'will getting jealous' conflict cuz im a pussy and theyre in love so that's prolly the number one reason that i'll never write this for real. bc theres no conflict. but idk ig byler just rides it out bc a) it's funny to them and b) they're college students and broke and he do be makin monayyyy

two scenes in particular that i came up with were: his agent or whatever art people call them comes to pick up a painting from the apartment cuz mike promised he'd have one. but he forgot. so he has them sit in one room while he makes a sandwich and blindly throws together something but ends up accidentally chucking the bread at the canvas, shrugs and just rolls with it.

and another where people want to see his Creative Process, which he had previously described as some Intense Ritual, so he's just like in this big warehouse, making weird movements with his arms and legs with like fucking abba playing in the background or the WORST fitting music (separately categorized from abba, which fits EVERYTHING) that somehow fits perfectly with the way these pretentious rich people are EATING IT UP

it ends up being a commentary on art and placing value on art and blah blah blah
